name: Ryan Ford gender & pronouns: Cis Woman | She/her age & date of birth: 28 years old | August 29th, 1994 neighborhood: Berry Hill time living in nashville: 12 years occupation: Country Singer signed to Good Roots
BACKGROUND.
“She really has a set of lungs on her,” were the first words spoken when Ryan Ford entered the world. She’d been born in the early morning of a hot summer day with a headful of blonde hair and bright blue eyes. The youngest of the Ford siblings, Ryan grew up living a white picket fence dream. Her family was painfully suburban — happily married parents, two kids, a golden retriever playing in the backyard, family trips camping during summer holidays. All of that seemed to come crashing down around her when she was nine and her parents’ seemingly perfect marriage began to crumble. It had started with disagreements and petty comments before eventually boiling over into full blown screaming matches. They separated and divorced after her father’s infidelity came to light a few years later and Ryan decided then and there to side with her mother. Her relationship with her father has never really recovered, the two remaining tense and strained more often than not to this day and the betrayal has stuck in the back of Ryan’s mind any time she enters a romantic relationship.
Ryan began to experiment with music at a young age, often riffing with her brother at the dinner table much to their mother’s annoyance. She got an acoustic guitar for Christmas when she was eleven, and she’s never really put it down since. She did some amateur song writing in her pre-teen years, mostly for school talent shows and as an alternative for journaling. When she was thirteen she made a YouTube account where she would upload both original and cover songs, though none ever really made waves for the first few years. For whatever reason, when she was seventeen one of them landed on the right persons’ homepage and a Reba McEntire cover she had recorded in her bedroom led to record labels calling. She and her mother fly into Nashville and begin meeting with label representatives and negotiating contracts. Her mother had initially been hesitant to allow her to sign anything, wanting her to focus on her education rather than chase a one in a million chance but eventually caved, supporting her daughter even if she didn’t fully agree with her choices. Before long, she signs on the dotted line and Ryan moves to Music City to work on her first album.
Her debut album is twelve tracks and called ‘DIBS’, named for the first single. It’s nothing record breaking or even particularly unique, but it’s Ryan’s and she loves it. They released it just in time for the summer and the country-pop album is full of steele guitar and twangy hooks and picked up by country radio stations around the country. Her target audience had been girls her own age, and it’s popular with them. Eventually she released a deluxe version with an acoustic B side and the success landed her a short touring deal opening for an A-List country star. With the tour, her fanbase begins to expand and Ryan begins to fully let herself believe this is her chance for success.
Her second album, titled ‘UNAPOLOGETIC’ is met with mixed reviews. On one hand, fans love it and the singles receive plenty of radio time. But on the other hand, critics are quick to label it as bubble gum pop and lacking depth, leaving Ryan discouraged. She had been proud of the album, especially having worked on it with her brother. The label assures her that the fans are loving it, despite what critics have to say, and in the end the numbers don’t lie. It does well for itself with a number one single, and Ryan goes off on her first headlining tour of arenas in North America. It’s a four month run and even though she doesn’t sell out every show, Ryan loves it. She meets the man who would become her husband in 2016. Of course, she knew who he was. His career ran parallel to hers, a star in his own right and admittedly she had some of his songs on her playlist, but their paths hadn’t really crossed up until then. They had both been booked to play a weekend long country music festival and ended up spending a good portion of the weekend hanging out and flirting. Ryan’s dating history had been widely speculated on up until that point, often finding herself in whirlwind romances that don’t last long, Ryan’s anxious attachment style often leading to their premature downfall. For whatever reason though, she felt safe with Jason and it seemed like she had finally managed to get it right. They marry fairly quickly and the tabloids run wild with it but Ryan is happy and that’s all she cares about.
The first few years of their marriage are exactly what Ryan had always wanted. They understood each other in a way she had never experienced before and seemingly fell into marital bliss. Her writing felt like it was better than ever, in 2017 she put out a double album. Side A titled ‘NEEDY’ and side B titled ‘OVERSHARE’ the albums consist of the same thirteen tracks, with side A having full production and side B being fully acoustic. The singles skyrocket to number one and it seems that she finally begins to break out of the Neon Cowgirl bubble her label had put her in, reaching audiences who previously hadn’t been able to resonate with her music. It was gratifying and Ryan was ecstatic. However, while her career thrives her marriage begins to deteriorate. With one or both of them always seeming on the road, oftentimes there are weeks or even months where Ryan and Jason don’t see each other. Distance, busy schedules and time zone differences begin to take their toll on the marriage and Ryan can feel Jason slipping between her fingers. Their connection seemingly broken, it quickly begins to feel like they are no longer playing on the same team, instead often arguing and being petty to each other. In 2022 they officially divorce and Ryan tells herself they had done the best that they could.
In the fall of 2022, while still touring, she drops a surprise EP called ‘just married.’ It’s six tracks that lay out the downfall of her marriage through Ryan’s eyes, accompanied by a short film on her YouTube channel and it changes everything. If Ryan’s career had been thriving before, it’s absolutely skyrocketed now. The EP is widely regarded as the best writing she has ever done, being brutally honest and vulnerable. The album makes headlines and charts on an international basis, something Ryan hadn’t managed to do with her previous albums, aside from the odd fluke here and there. She hadn’t released it as a strategic career move, rather having used it as a self-healing tool but it’s clear that it was working in her favour. Impulsively, she adds another leg onto the ‘OVERSHARING’ tour, continuing into the new year.
The tour ended in LA in March of 2023 and Ryan is looking forward to some much needed downtime. Or as close to it as she can get. Her nights on the road had been spent with a guitar in her lap and a notebook beside her, lyrics flowing out of her on a near constant basis. She’d perfected them over the spring and now finds herself in the studio working diligently on recording her upcoming album. While she hasn’t officially released the title, she announced that a new album would be coming in the fall of 2023 on her instagram at the beginning of July, much to fan’s excitement.

Stanley gesturing to a corkboard: I've connected the dots.
Ford quirking an eyebrow at said board: You haven't connected anything.
Stanley insistent: I've connected them.
Ford about ready to argue
Fiddleford placing a finger on Ford's mouth: Shh Stanford let him speak.
