How to Deal with a Roofing Insurance Claim?
Dealing with a roofing insurance claim can be a bit complex, but following a systematic approach can help you navigate the process smoothly. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Tumblr media
Assessment and Documentation:
Inspect the Damage: Assess the extent of the damage to your roof caused by incidents like storms, hail, or leaks.
Document the Damage: Take clear photos and videos of the damage from various angles. This documentation will be crucial for your insurance claim.
Review Your Policy:
Understand Coverage: Review your insurance policy to understand the extent of coverage for roof damage. Note any deductibles, limitations, or exclusions that may apply.
Contact Your Insurance Company:
Prompt Notification: Notify your insurance company about the roof damage as soon as possible. Some policies have specific time limits for reporting claims.
Provide Information: Be ready to provide details about the damage, when it occurred, and any initial repairs you may have done to prevent further damage.
Schedule an Adjuster Inspection:
Insurance Adjuster: Your insurance company will likely assign an adjuster to assess the damage. Schedule a time for them to inspect your roof.
Present Documentation: During the inspection, provide the photos, videos, and any other documentation you've collected. Walk the adjuster through the damage.
Obtain Repair Estimates:
Get Multiple Estimates: Obtain estimates from reputable roofing contractors for the repair or replacement work required.
Share Estimates: Share these estimates with your insurance adjuster to ensure they align with their assessment.
Claim Approval and Pay-out:
Approval Process: Your insurance company will review the adjuster's report and the repair estimates. They'll determine the amount they'll cover based on your policy terms.
Pay-out: Once the claim is approved, your insurance company will issue a pay-out. This pay-out may be in one or multiple instalments.
Choose a Contractor:
Contractor Selection: Select a licensed and experienced roofing contractor to carry out the repair or replacement work. Check if your insurance has any requirements for contractor choice.
Start Repairs:
Coordinate with Contractor: Work closely with the chosen contractor to schedule the repairs. Ensure they follow local building codes and regulations.
Document the Process:
Record Progress: Keep a record of the repair process with photos and notes. This documentation can be useful if there are any disputes.
Final Inspection and Payment:
Completion Inspection: Once the repairs are complete, conduct a thorough inspection with your contractor to ensure the work meets your satisfaction.
Final Payment: If your insurance pay-out was issued in instalments, the final payment is typically released after you provide proof that the repairs were completed.
Remember that the specifics of the process might vary based on your insurance company, policy, and local regulations. It's also recommended to consult with professionals, such as roofing contractors and legal advisors, if you encounter any challenges during the claims process.

Life is hard! Consider buying my stuff!
My life isn't quite falling apart, but things have gotten really tricky lately. One housemate (and their super destructive, permanent houseguest) is refusing to pay their share of rent or utilities for the next three months, and another is refusing to pay their full share of rent for that same amount of time and is making us cover around $75 every month, and I'm having to double-up my hours at work while still being a full-time student (and also one of my professors, who we're 99% sure is using ChatGPT to generate her citations because none of them exist and we pointed this out, hates my guts and has been grading me really harshly and forcing me to go full-sail on every assignment to ridiculous degrees in order to pass this required class).
My spouse is working on getting full-time at their job, but it looks like they won't be able to until December, and we also have no idea how much rent is going to increase this year-- my guess is it's going to go up another $500, same as last year, to a total of $3,000, so things are gonna get really fucking bumpy until around January, probably.
So basically, if you like the work I've done, consider throwing me a tip on Ko-Fi or buying my stuff on Itch.io:
(Also I promise we have more stuff lined up that we want to polish and publish, life has just been super-duper fucking busy! There is so much more going on right now than what I've mentioned here, especially in terms of surprise medical bills and other horrible surprises. And we haven't forgotten about Inky Paws issue 2, either, which we're still hoping to have done by December and which will STILL always be entirely 100% free to download, no matter what our living or money situation looks like. That will never ever change, so please don't worry!)
#personal#yells#one of the surprise medical bills was MY TOOTH FUCKIN BROKE#I need to get a whole ass crown!!! wtf I'm anti-monarchy this should be illegal to happen to me#there are other surprise medical bills too but that's the one I'm most like are you FUCKIN srs rn#I love dentists and I think they're the coolest so it's like not scary or anything it's just. it's SO EXPENSIVE.#All the other bills should be at around $600 or below but this definitely won't even with insurance and I'm like whyyyyyyy#I should have gotten the crown like a week or two ago but I literally just cannot afford it rn so I'm trying to just be careful#with the patch the dentist put on it a month or so ago....#sorry I'm just using the tags to SCREAM at this point like oh my god guys#you would not believe some of the bullshit that is going on rn#My housemate's permanent guest? it's their partner with assault charges#Who kidnapped a cat#Burned their last place of residency down#Bite and shanked their mother at 5am while she was asleep in her bedroom#And got my housemate arrested on false charges last year for funsies#And jumped off my roof#And brings stray animals in the house#And makes the hugest messes in the kitchen and living room without cleaning them up#(And I think she's a local drug dealer but that's more just a DO IT IN YOUR OWN FUCKING HOUSE AND NOT MINE thing)#So the whooooole polycule is on high alert that this person is gonna go off the rails and hurt people/pets at any time#I'm so unbelievably stressed out and worried about my cat especially#And like. I have PTSD dudes! This is so unimaginably fucking awful for my mental health!#If it weren't for my support system I would be in PIECES right now. I am so lucky to have partners and friends who care.#Also if some of that list sounds Weirdly Familiar to you it's because I wrote a fictional AITA post for NaNoWriMo '21 based on some of it#Yeah THAT is how long this stuff has been going on and what I've listed here is only Tip Of The Iceberg#Those two people will be gone by the end of November but oh my god I'm so stressed about retaliation and shit#The housemate in question tried to deflect by being like-- oh well she was just off her antipsychotics!#Like dude I don't know how to break this to you but. 1) that's a reason but not a justification for her behavior#2) She's an awful and horrible person both on and off her meds so obviously it is not the sole fault of her psychosis

it took me way too long to realize your url was probably 'hale damage' and not 'hal ed a mage' nor 'HA le damage' in a rather sinister italian accent
lol, you'd be surprised how often I get that! 😁 I think my favorite variation is "haled a mage" but also now I think my next DnD wizard is gonna be Hal Ed so thank you for that 😆
but yep, it's "hale damage"! it's an old pun/nickname earned from a combination of my family name being Hale and me having no spacial awareness and bumping into things all the time 😅 many a plate in the restaurant I used to work in was a victim of hale damage

We have $130 to get us through to Wednesday. Unfortunately, we have a $122 bill on Tuesday, and we need to purchase a few things because of the mess that has occurred this week. Details on that are pinned on my blog.
The short version is we got hit with an ice storm, had to purchase a bunch of non-perishables because we lost power for several days, several gallons of clean water because we lost water (and are reusing the jugs because water is back but contaminated), fuel because the tank was barely empty, and...we're broke.
I have quilt commissions open (start at $150), items in my shop (start at $0), and accept donations.
$100 is all we need for the next several days so we don't overdraft.
An ice storm was not in our budget, and we burned through our savings last year with my husband's emergency surgery.

I wonder how your average cosmetics/jewelry/high-end electronics store would deal with parahuman theft. A lot of security measures that they would normally use really aren’t going to work that well against some guy who could knock down walls or teleport. Presumably they’re going to be tied into protection rackets from whatever organized gangs exist in the area, but it’s still almost trivial to do “passing through.” And of course it gets even easier when you get to the level of organized groups committing the burglary.

11% more effective than placebo and this groundbreaking combination of two very common cheap and well established drugs costs $1200 for 60 tabs with the goodrx coupon. antidepressants are so silly (<- trying not to shoot myself)

...the people who elected him, 100% deserve what they're gonna get.
That includes anyone who stayed home as a protest vote.
The rest of us don't deserve to be dragged into hell with them.
Maybe we can hope the House goes blue, but at this point, like...
...what even is this.
