Living in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26)
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus. 2 For the Law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the Law of sin and death. 3 For of the Law being powerless in that it was weak through the flesh, God, having sent His Son in likeness of sin of flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the righteousness of the Law should be fulfilled in us not walking according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. â Romans 8:1-4 | Berean Literal Bible (BLB) The Berean Literal Bible © 2016 by Bible Hub and Berean Bible. Pursue what matters most
In the book of Romans, Paul begs Christians to give their entire lives over to God because God sacrificed everything for them. Jesus gave up His life so that we could experience His unending love and grace. We cheapen His gifts if we refuse to align our lives with the way Jesus lived.
But we give our lives to God by making Him the one thing we pursue above anything else.
So here are 5 steps you can practiceâright nowâto help you put God first.
Give thanks
âWe give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds.â
Psalms 75:1 ESV
Right now, take a moment to thank God for what Heâs already done for you. Reflect on His faithfulness, and recount the stories you have seen and heard of His wonderful power.
Spend 5 minutes in silence
âAbide in me, and I in you.â
John 15:4 ESV
Abiding in Jesus starts with stillness. So right now, pause, take a deep breath, and give anything concerning you over to God. Spend 5 minutes centering your heart on the One who matters most.
Remember Whose you are
âYou are not your own, for you were bought with a price.â
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
God loves you. The price He paid for you cost Him everything. So remind yourself of Whose you are, and reflect on some of the things God says about you.
Meditate on Godâs Word
âOh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.â
Psalms 119:97 ESV
One of the best ways to find out how Jesus wants you to live is by spending time in Scripture. As you do, ask God to speak to you through His Word about what His will is.
Focus on what is excellent
ââŠIf there is any excellence ⊠think about these things.â
Philippians 4:8 ESV
You have been given the mind of Christ. If youâre not sure what you should think about, try asking yourself: What is praiseworthy? What thoughts and actions would honor God?
Make a list of whatever comes to mind, and pursue those things.
By practicing these steps every day, you can create habits that will help you pursue intimacy with God every day, and put Him first above everything else.

Lessons from Cain Lesson 02: Two Conversations
Did you know the Bible records two conversations between Cain and God? Today we are going to study these two conversations in-depth.
Letâs read together Genesis 4:6-7.
In our previous lesson we discussed why God rejected Cain's offering, but accepted Abelâs offering. The offering was a symbol of salvation. We cannot save ourselves through our own works. We need a Savior.
Nevertheless, Cain was upset his offering was not accepted by God. Cain had offered the best fruits and vegetables from his hard work and labor in the fields.
Letâs read together Proverbs 11:2 and 16:18.
God knew Cainâs pride was wounded by this rejection. When God asked Cain why he was angry, God was warning Cain not to let his pride get the better of him.  God let Cain know if he offered the proper sacrifice, then it would be accepted.
Letâs read together Deuteronomy 30:19; Psalm 139:23-24; 1 Corinthians 10:13; and James 1:12-13.
God saw Cain was at a precipice. Cain had a fateful decision to make. He could either give into his pride and resentment, which would lead him down the path of sin, or Cain could let go of his pride and resentment. Cain could obtain a sheep from Abel (perhaps for some fruits and vegetables) and offer a proper sacrifice to God.
God foresaw the tragedy that would come if Cain persisted in his pride. This conversation teaches us that we are only slaves to sin because we choose to commit sin. We have the power of choice - to do good or evil, right or wrong.
Letâs read together Genesis 4:8.
Tragically, Cain was unable to let go of his pride. He murdered his brother Abel, who had done nothing wrong.
Letâs read together Genesis 4:9; Psalm 32:5; Proverbs 28:13; and 1 John 1:9.
Why did God ask Cain, âWhere is Abel your brother?â God already knew the answer. Just like with Adam and Eve, God was giving Cain a chance to confess his sins. However, unlike his parents, Cain remained defiant and lied to God. Cain basically asked God, âWhy should I be concerned about Abel?â
Letâs read together Genesis 4:10-14; Exodus 21:12; and Revelation 6:9-11.
God confronted Cain with his sin. Cain was a murderer. Abel was innocent and had done nothing worthy of death. Justice demanded Cain be put to death.Â
However, God did not strike Cain dead. God instead chose to curse Cain. The ground would no longer yield good fruit and vegetables as it did before. Cain would no longer be able to take pride in his ability to till the earth. Cain would no longer be a farmer, but he would live the life of a nomad, wandering from place to place. Â
In the hardness of Cainâs heart, he did not repent of his sin. Rather, Cain complains about the severity of his punishment.
Letâs read together Genesis 4:15; Leviticus 19:18; Numbers 14:18; and Romans 12:19.
Why did God put a mark on Cain to preserve his life? God was demonstrating his longsuffering mercy.  God hoped Cain would one day come to his senses as in the parable of the prodigal son. God wanted Cain to confess his sins, repent, and return to Him.Â
The mark of Cain was a precursor to the cities of refuge in the time of Moses. God does not want us to take vengeance on our own. He will judge in His own time.
Letâs read together Psalm 103:10-12; Romans 8:12-13; 1 John 1:9; Hebrews 7:25; and Revelation 3:12
Godâs conversations with Cain teach us two important lessons. First, we can have victory over sin! Jesus Christ can give you victory if you are willing to rely on His strength and not your own. Secondly, Jesus will forgive any and all sins if you sincerely confess your sins and ask Him for forgiveness.
Friend, will you take these two lessons to heart?

Prayer: Our most kind and gracious Father in heaven, we flee to you today because we live in a sin-wrecked world full of trials of various kinds. We wrestle with the failures of the flesh, and we look around and wonder who will rescue us from this body of death. We thank you for giving us your beloved Son, who went through immense suffering and pain and experienced great sorrow as he lookedâŠ

A Different Kind of Kingdom Would Result in a Different Kind of World
There are many political systems and rulers in this world. One list shows that there are still 43 monarchies ( https://www.infoplease.com/world/social-statistics/kingdoms-and-monarchs-world ), although many of them are merely ceremonial or cultural in function. But kings and other rulers are instrumental in defining what goes on in their countries. If you look at the shape our world is in, whatâŠ

Day 4
August 15, 2024
Dear friend,
Habits seem harder and harder to break. Which makes sense. The older I get, the more I become what I've been. The longer I've been doing the same things again and again and again, the deeper the patterns impress upon my heart. The dirt trails I have walked for three decades are now packed earth, paved road, highways.
But just because it's more difficult doesn't mean I should stop trying. Sin habits are still habits. I do them without thinking; they are so ingrained into my being and my soul. And yet, there's the still, small voice, the itty-bitty truth drowned out by routine... Think. Start thinking.
Think about who you areââbeloved, saved, sanctified, adopted, made new.
Think about whose you areââchild of the king, purchased and pardoned for a purpose, set apart for infinite glory and joy.
Think about why you continue to beââto glory in and enjoy a good God, to know and be known by Him, to reign with Him and be His bride, His body, His child (metaphors for infinite truths).
Think about where you are headedââeternal joy, seeing Jesus face to face.
Think about how you will get thereââby faith... and through many dangers, toils, and snares... and carried along by grace and truth and divine power.
And as you think of these things, your affections might shift, even minutely, off course of where they were pushing your soul. And maybe the fires of lust get swallowed up in greater, stronger, divinely directed conflagrations.
Take some Philippians 4:8 pills and let them shape you a la Romans 12:1-2. Eat that bread of the Word and digest it thoroughly and soak in it (Psalm 1:1-3) and absorb every nutrient you can obtain (Psalm 119:11) and wield it powerfully (Ephesians 6:17) against the lies that have shaped you for years. But do it one day at a time, one step at a time, one leg at a time, one breath at a time (Philippians 3:13-14).
And you'll get there, friend.
And I struggle alongside you. It's tough out here. But we have infinite hope in an infinite Savior.
With affection,
Your brother

âBut the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment. And He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity. The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble; And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.â âPsalm 9:7-10
âYour faithfulness continues throughout all generations; You established the earth, and it stands.â âPsalm 119:90
ââFor I know the plans that I have for you,â declares the LORD, âplans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.ââ âJeremiah 29:11
âAnd we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.â âRomans 8:28
âFor we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.â âHebrews 4:15
âDo not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.â âIsaiah 41:10
âGod is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.â âPsalm 46:1
âGod Inspires Our Trustâ By In Touch Ministries:
âOur Father in heaven always keeps His promises and never leaves us alone.â
âAs far as children can tell, their mom and dad know everything and can do anything. And kids typically donât question that assumption without reason (for example, if they see a parent mishandle a situation or someone else influences their level of trust). Parents demonstrate reliability by consistently providing shelter, food, and safetyâand also by lovingly teaching, comforting, and guiding their sons and daughters. Then the children can sleep in peace, knowing their needs will be met.
Likewise, we know that we can trust our heavenly Father because He has shown Himself trustworthy from the beginning of time. Psalm 119:90 says, â[Godâs] faithfulness continues throughout generations.â He has never broken a promise, and His plans for us have always been for our good (Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 8:28). Whatâs more, God understands our weaknesses and never asks us to do anything that He wonât help us accomplish (Hebrews 4:15; Isaiah 41:10). We can trust that even in the worst situations, He will be with us (Psalm 46:1).
What does trusting God look like in your life this week? Where can you relinquish control to Him?â

Trusting the Lord in Times of Suffering: An Expository Study of Alma 14
In our journey of faith, suffering can often feel insurmountable. It's in these moments that we must remember Christ's example and His ultimate sacrifice.
Alma the Younger and Amulek are led away from the fire that has consumed the believers in Ammonihah. Suffering is an inevitable part of the human experience, especially for believers striving to walk the path of righteousness. In Alma 14, we find a profound example of enduring faith amidst unimaginable trials. Alma and Amulek faced severe persecution and witnessed the martyrdom of the faithful,âŠ

Adoption Song
Some of the best wisdom I ever received was this: Put Your Identity Wholly-Holy In Christ Jesus. I am so glad I did and I hope you do too. We are adopted by God, We belong to Jesus Christ. Awe-GOD! God bless ya. Have a great day!
Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm has already been lavished upon us as a love gift from our wonderful heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesusâall because he sees us wrapped into Christ. This is why we celebrate him with all our hearts! And in love he chose us before he laid the foundation of the universe! Because of his great love, he ordained us, so that we would be seen asâŠ
