765874 Unification DEEP DIVE!
There's a lot to unpack on this little video, including lots not at all explained in it and only behind the scenes. Is it dreamy and ambiguous, or is there a solid background?
First of all, is Kirk dead and in heaven? Is he alive? A hologram? The answers are shown in the intro, prior 765874 videos and built from Easter Eggs in Picard season 3. Eagle-eyed viewers spotted Kirk's remains in the Section 31 Daystrom vault. The readout mentioned something called "Project Phoenix". James T. Kirk has been resurrected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The park Kirk starts out in? It's not just any park. It's inside the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-J, just look at the Roddenberry Archive Ent-J interior. We're in the 26th century, that's why Saavik looks so old. And speaking of Saavik, the Roddenberry Archive say they consider the Vulcan's Heart novel canon. Which means Saavik is Spock's wife. And the Vulcan man next to her? That's Sorak, the son she had with Spock following the Pon Farr in Star Trek III, according to OTOY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It gets weirder. The old man wearing a white TNG movie era dress uniform? He's credited as "Crusher". That's an elderly version of our time travelling Wesley, dressed as he was in Star Trek Nemesis.
Tumblr media
This sinister character, who gives Kirk his badge back and takes him through time? Temporal soldier Yor, from Discovery 3.09. From the Kelvin timeline, he jumped forward in time and across timelines during the 30th century temporal wars, eventually resulting in sickness and an agonising death. Here he takes Kirk from the 26th century Enterprise-J to 23rd century New Vulcan in the Kelvin timeline.
Tumblr media
But why was Kirk resurrected? Just to zip though time and be with Spock at his death?
And what role does Yeoman Colt (whose Starfleet serial number these shorts are named for) play? She's seen in all of them, even the start of this one in a Kelvin Universe uniform looking at Project Phoenix stuff. I guess time will tell...

I just wanted to talk about how Unification was a great follow up to the other Rodenberry archive short film Regeneration which came out a year and a half ago. In Regeneration, we saw Spock visiting Kirk's grave on Veridian III and picking up Kirk's insignia from atop the grave where Picard left it after burying him.
Unification implies that the events of the photo novel Strange New Worlds are canon in that Gary Mitchell became a powerful non-corporeal being after his death on Delta Vega. Mitchell initially wants revenge on Kirk but Kirk eventually gets him to realize that he can set aside human desires and flaws. Mitchell sets out to travel the universe. And in Unification, Mitchell finds out about Kirk's death, sees Spock mourning at Kirk's grave, and Kirk's remains in storage at Daystrom Station.
So Mitchell brings Kirk back, has his insignia returned to him, and gives Kirk and Spock one last sunset to share together. And that's beautiful.
There's been so much focus on just the Spirk moment that I didn't want the rest of it to be overlooked and under appreciated.

I was finally able to find some images of actor Lawrence Selleck getting into Spock make up! His transformation is INCREDIBLE, you can tell people put SO much work into this.
Tumblr media
here is Leonard Nimoy (left) and Lawrence Selleck (right) in a make up test (minus the ears which i think is really funny)

In Unification, Yor (disco) is there to imply that he managed to get Spock back from the kelvin timeline upon his return, which would explain why Spock is back in the prime universe. What I'm not sure of, since I have erased most of generations from my memory, is how they explain why Jim is still alive. Any theories?

Due to the canonization of Spock and kirk reuniting, James T. Kirk Prime is a far more necessary tag on a03. and extra canon more than it has been.
Since there is two Jim kirks in the same reality and also very canon, it's a incredible thing to happen. Something largely fanon for getting close to a decade and then boom!
Roddenberry archive and Shatner and Leonard's estates come together with practical effects, cgi, and actors who look strongly similar to the characters, and Curtis. Fixing an error! A wrong! making things right! Licensed by Paramount Global!
The same archive that chronicled briefly the resurrection of the Enterprise D saucer section by Geordi taken off the viridian 3 or whatever it's called.
oh, and.
Jim Kirk can get to meet his counterpart and get to know him.
Well, it'll be a very unique instance since Spock is in his head.
now there is fanfic potential right there.
We know these two are still in Alternate original series since A, the photo is still there. The happy birthday holoemitter is still there. Both of these things are in the possession of alt Spock by the time of star trek beyond.

I think Star Trek Regeneration is actually a bad thing. I've only ever seen people praising it but can we please be serious and think about the fact that "resurrecting" a long-dead actor for a role that should've put to rest a long time ago is actually bad for art and cinema.
Not to mention it's just deeply unsettling looking at the empty reconstruction of nimoy's face

This is one of the greatest things ever. Walk around every single version of the U.S.S. Enterprise in photorealistic 3D in your browser, from the Roddenberry Archive. On a phone you just see wraparound 3D pics. On a PC or laptop you get the full 3D interactive experience. They NEED to make this VR compatible, it'll be beyond words.
There are more Enterprises here than Tumblr will allow me photos of, and more will likely be added.
Tumblr media
Here's the TOS Enterprise, which appears in several incarnations ("The Cage", "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and TOS proper as well as TAS with the second turbolift!), has the correct original graphics and is perfect.
Tumblr media
This is the bridge from the unmade Star Trek: Phase II series (whose pilot episode "In Thy Image" was rewritten to become Star Trek: The Motion Picture), with it's legendary big comfy command sofa seat and tactical display bubble!
Tumblr media
The Motion Picture, such an accurate recreation that there's even a very faint flicker on the rear-projection animated screens as seen in the movie.
Tumblr media
Enterprise NX-01, looking exactly as it did in "Broken Bow"
Tumblr media
Recognise this? It's the briefing room of Discovery season 2's version of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. Although at the front of the saucer on the "real" ship, here it's off the second bridge door which may well be where the set was IRL.
Tumblr media
I wasn't expecting modern Trek to be represented equally as the originals in this project, but it is. This is the Enterprise from Strange New Worlds, with Pike's Ready Room located just off the bridge.
Tumblr media
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. My favourite version of the classic bridge, as a kid I drew all these control panels and stuck them on my bedroom walls. And now I can look around and look at them all close-up! They've even replicated the noticable TVs stuffed into the panels for the more complex animated screens.
Tumblr media
The Enterprise-C bridge from "Yesterday's Enterprise". This one has always fascinated me, being a low-budget TV set (formerly the Enterprise-D battle bridge, originally built from the rain-damaged TMP set's back wall and redressed endlessly though TNG) representing TNG's immediate predecessor. In the episode they mostly shoot the back wall and imply the consoles make a huge circle, but here you can see the set's real dimensions and the weirdness of the classic movie helm/nav console in front of the TNG con/ops panels. I love it.
Tumblr media
You know how much I love the Kelvin movies, so seeing this was amazing. For some reason the consoles don't have their screens lit (hopefully this'll be fixed soon), but you can see the saucer under the window and it's shiny and amazing.
Tumblr media
The last thing I expected was the U.S.S. Titan-A/Enterprise-G bridge, but it's here. And the lights are on.
Other bridges available to explore which I'm out of pictures to show: The Enterprise-D (of course), Enterprise XCV-330 (the ringship, based on concept art for the unmade non-Trek series "Starship"), the Planet of the Titans U.S.S. Enterprise (again, based on concept art for a cool multi-levelled set) and the "launch" U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 (based on the very first piece of TOS bridge set concept art), the Enterprise-E, the Enterprise-F (seen on viewscreen for all of 2 minutes in Picard) and the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656!
Take a bow lads, you've done good. Now just add VR support!
That link again.

The Roddenberry Archive
Denise and Michael Okuda are leading an effort to visualize, and document the history of Roddenberry’s optimistic view of the future and the fantastic artwork created for the show.No revisions or replacements – the work of Jefferies and Probert and the like as it was when it changed the world.
