Mini-review:

Wow, The Bear has done it again. This was one sublime season of television. Every single thing about it is spectacular, from the directing and the writing to the acting and the editing. This show has managed to craft its own visual and oral language, and it feels pretty much revolutionary. I think every single episode left me at least a bit breathless, and even very breathless at some points. We're only two seasons in, but it's obvious that this is already one of the best shows all time, so do yourself a favor and watch it, if you haven't already.

re: the bear, if you mean a dishwashing machine, idk if they had one, but if you mean dishwashing staff, they do have a couple who you see at least a few times in the first season in the kitchen and during the group meals, but they don't have a lot of lines outside of a bit where richard esteras tells the other staff to take the tape off their containers. i want to say they're also in the second season but with fewer lines

i remember a couple of shots w/ a dishwashing machine so it definitely, like, exists at some level dghfjsn. & sure -- i am on the lookout on my rewatch right now! it would definitely be a weird thing to overlook altogether so i'm more wondering like, where they do come up, lol

Henry Kissinger, in cerca della pace

Cento anni di uno degli uomini più noti ed amati della seconda metà del Novecento, segretario di stato sotto la presidenza sia di Richard Nixon che di Gerald Ford,  vinse  il premio Nobel per la pace nel 1973…. Henry Heinz Alfred Kissinger nacque a Fürth, una città della Franconia, regione a nord della Baviera, il 27 maggio 1923, in una famiglia di origini ebraiche che nel 1938, in seguito alle persecuzioni dei nazisti, lasciarono la Germania e si stabilirono a New York. Kissinger lavorò di giorno come operaio e studia la sera, per poi ottenere la cittadinanza statunitense nel 1943, fu assoldato da un organismo di controspionaggio come traduttore dal tedesco all'americano. Nel 1950 conseguì la laurea a pieni voti, ma continuò gli studi fino al 1954, in seguito si avvicinò a Nelson Rockefeller, che lo introdusse alla politica. Quando nel 1968 Richard Nixon divenne  il più probabile vincitore delle elezioni presidenziali,  Kissinger divenne il suo consigliere, fu  nominato Segretario di Stato e il suo operato si concentrò ad allentare la tensione con l'Unione Sovietica, al punto da  negoziare il trattato SALT (Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, Trattato per la limitazione degli armamenti strategici) e l'ABM (Trattato Anti Missili Balistici). Nel 1971 fece due viaggi segreti in Cina in preparazione del viaggio di Nixon dell'anno successivo, avviando la normalizzazione delle relazioni tra USA e Repubblica Popolare Cinese. Quando nel 1973 fu assegnato a Kissinger e a Le Duc To il premio Nobel per la pace per il fermate il fuoco del conflitto vietnamita, Le Duc To rifiutò il premio per il protrarsi del conflitto che successivamente si aggravò ulteriormente. Negli anni Kissinger fu accusato di aver avuto un ruolo di sostegno per Augusto Pinochet e il suo colpo di stato militare in Cile, contro il presidente socialista Salvador Allende dell’11 settembre 1973. Dopo che nel 2001 furono formalizzate precise accuse e aperte diverse inchieste, Kissinger dovette comparire presso la magistratura francese a Parigi, per testimoniare sulla sparizione di cinque cittadini francesi nei primi giorni della dittatura di Pinochet. Negli USA dopo lo scandalo Watergate,  che portò Nixon alle dimissioni, Kissinger continuò ad essere molto popolare tanto che Gerald Ford gli chiese di rimanere alla segreteria di Stato durante la sua amministrazione. Alla fine del 1975 Ford e Kissinger incontrarono a Giacarta Suharto, presidente indonesiano, evento che indirettamente portò all'approvazione dell'invasione di Timor Est, che vide il massacro di oltre 200.000 abitanti di un territorio a maggioranza cattolica. Dopo la fine del mandato di Ford, Kissinger non ebbe più alti incarichi di stato,  partecipò ad attività di gruppi politici e svolse attività di consulente e conferenziere oltre che scrittore. Mini-review:

What an impressive first season. The writing is brilliant, the directing is fiery and the acting is showstopping. It gets better with every episode and the last two are outright masterpieces. Episode 7 in particular blew me away with that 18-minute single-take scene, which was just exhilarating. Also, as someone who watched Shameless for a long time, I already knew how incredible Jeremy Allen White was, but he once again managed to impress me here. And the rest of the cast is fire too, all the characters feel so real and natural. Tbh, this first season has a fairly closed ending that doesn't really require a continuation, but I'm very glad there's more coming. I'm looking forward to seeing what the writers come up with.

Matt Barr (Valor) as Mick, who is an old soul, unplugged from society, skeptical of the world and cynical beyond his years. A police detective who has been removed from the force, he lives alone on a desert island with a nice dog named Irma – and he’s happy to be off the grid. After finding Joey floating in the ocean, he nurses her back to health and reluctantly agrees to help her in her quest for answers. (Feb 28)

Ben Aldridge (Reign) as Chaz, a real jerk, an “environmentalist” who drives a bright yellow Hummer and is having an affair with a sexy hairdresser. Celebrating his anniversary with his wife Joey on board a cruise ship, he invites Joey to come up on deck on a rainy night as a romantic gesture. However, he has other plans and promptly throws her overboard. (Mar 1)

KJ Smith (Dynasty) as Karla. A misplaced Detroiter now living in Miami, Karla is a detective investigating the strange disappearance of Joey. Coming off a bad relationship of her own, she interviews Chaz– and immediately gets the feeling that something’s not quite right. (Mar 27)

Brent Sexton (The Killing) as Red. Ruthless and tough as nails, he’s known as “Red” to friends and enemies alike. A self-made, albeit corrupt, businessman, he uses his charm and charisma to conceal his violent nature. (Mar 27)

Richard Esteras (Death Wish) as Tool. A hulk of a man, Tool is an oddly folksy kind of guy who’s involved in some dark undertakings. Casual with a laissez-faire attitude, Tool also happens to be a vicious killer. (Mar 16)
