between Dread continuing from a game on GBA (and really every game prior to that too) and Prime 4 continuing from 2 games on GameCube and Original DS, Metroid has the longest narrative endurance of any multi-creator series I've ever seen. Threads left in stasis decades ago when the series was shelved picked right back up once development resumes—an entire generation of developers later—like nothing ever happened
#metroid#time to play Hunters#I literally wrote like 2 months ago “if they do this right Sylux will be a series household name the same way Dread is now”#theyre doing it#honestly footage they showed looks like absolute garbage though.#utterly unevolved gameplay with worse graphics and animation than Prime Remastered#hopefully it's an extremely alpha engine version with overdeveloped visuals for a teaser.#pray it's another dread/luigis mansion 3/fe echoes scenario where the barebones trailer footage doesnt do the real game justice#currently a Prime Remastered romhack would look and play better than what they showed#and shots STILL dont even cast light. How are you supposed to have immersive environmental atmospherics without dynamic lighting#the Gamecube games UNDERSTOOD that. N64 GAMES UNDERSTOOD THAT#bloom and 4k rendering fog haze doesnt do anything but dilute atmosphere. clarity is what makes graphical engines feel rich#anyways samus' Prime 4 suit design is Peak. THATS Samus. not this form fitting “Zero Suit+Armor” early game bs from the new 2Ds (love u)#ALSO METROIDS ACTUALLY BEING DEPLOYED AS WEAPONS [homer rain gif]

Man it really is a shame that as of this date (July 5th, 2023) that Cookie's Bustle is all but scrapped off the web at large.
There's only two videos discussing it directly (and that more about the take downs and not directly the game itself), with everything else turning up no results.
I know some people on twitter were thinking that it was for some sort of relaunch, but at this point I really don't think it's some sort of modern reboot.
This is really a bummer for game preservation. Also a bummer as a person who just likes weird obscure games.
#Cookie's Bustle#there are still some pages like the wikipedia up but everything that has either distributing power or videos has been thoroughly scrubbed#I'm pretty sure Cookie's Bustle still lives on through torrenting and P2P sharing since that's a lot harder to enforce copyrights with#due to the nature of the beast with regards to how that works#but the downside is that you run the risks associated with torrenting stuff if you do decide to get the game through those avenues#it's either that or the case of ''well I know a guy who's got it'' and direct sharing of files which is it's own can of worms#just sad about it since i'm trying to find the vinesauce vod of it for archival write up purposes and it's legitimately real hard to find#since it seems like writing about the game itself doesn't cause a DMCA Takedown these days#and that the copyright troll is now solely targeting gameplay footage as well as file distribution#since websites discussing the game but not distributing it (eg wikipedia & mobygames) still have their pages up

Got inspired after being frustrated by one of those fake creepypasta vids while I was looking for real gameplay footage of the cannon glitch from way back. Got me thinking, "What if the Hero's Shade had been roaming the world for a while?"

(Updated post)
Hello there!
Been a while, hasn't it?
New fans have grown up, old fans have passed on (and away), and our project team has not only expanded in recent months - with the help of the Yakuza Modding Community (full credits will be included in the mod) - but has also undergone a change in management.
Today, we finally have something to show you.
Keep in mind that the translation is still undergoing proofreading and polish, and both the UI and fonts will be improved. If it currently looks like Google Translate to some, rest assured - it isn’t. A member of the previous team was not proficient in English, but this, along with the text’s style, is being addressed.
Our goal as a mostly new team is to ensure that the game is not only playable but also stylistically consistent with the series and its historical period. References to 1600s Japan are carefully preserved and adapted to maintain immersion. No offensive language has been used, no content has been cut, and there may even be a few optional mods included.
Kenzan is getting closer to release - right now, we are reworking the UI using proper techniques we’ve learned along the way.
Soon, we will publish gameplay footage of the translation from our tests and refine everything to ensure it looks and works as well as possible.
See you soon - this time for real.
Sincerely, The Kenzan Translation Team
P.S. You may ask what took us so long? Real life and troubles with the previous "team". Now things go as smooth as possible. Stay tuned!

"Another challenger… it has been ages. Perhaps you have forgotten how this game is played. Allow me to remind you."
Happy halloween fellas!!! Hermitcraft/Life SMP inscryption AU ft. Boatem gang I cooked up awhile ago but never got around to posting B-) Wild life smp has reminded me how mentally ill I am about putting these Guys in Situations so here I am
Mild to major inscryption spoilers under the cut!
For those familiar with the game, the general roles are:
Luke Carter - "Challenger"/Grian
In this AU Grian is still a trading card-based youtuber who's recording all this nonsense going down real time as in canon, but has closer ties to the GameFuna company equivalent, named "WatcherCorp". His old college roommate/best mate Jimmy went to work for them, but mysteriously passed away in a fire at their headquarters. He found the Inscryption cards in Jimmy's leftover personal belongings a few years after his death, and decided that the best way to honor him would be to make a video featuring the project he put his heart and soul into... in more ways than one.
Key difference from canon Inscryption: Grian's mind is sucked into the game of Inscryption whenever he is playing. He is able to enter and leave the game at will, but he doesn't realize this until he first dies to Leshy/Pearl and ejects himself unconsciously out of fear of dying. The only reason he realizes he isn't hallucinating is because his camcorder footage proves he actually enters the game. He obtains the "Watcher's Eye" during Act 1, which he keeps for all future acts and allows him to see things he shouldn't see as a Challenger.
P03 - "Scarred Stoat"/Scar
Despite being the one who convinces Grian and the other Scrybes to stand up against Pearl, no one seems eager to spend any more time with the conniving conman than absolutely necessary. This may have something to do with Scar's history of backstabbing and cheating both Scybes and Challengers whenever it benefits him most. Which makes it rather unfortunate that Grian is must spend time with Scar in order to gather as much information as possible.
In the beginning, Scar and Grian do not get along in the slightest. Grian finds Scar's attitude too "fake", while Scar finds Grian's "cowardice" to be irritating. At some point, the two go from passive-aggressive fighting, to a grudging truce, to more friendly, lighthearted banter. Neither person seems to trust the other, but it doesn't seem to stop the two from being ✨saddled with unnecessary feelings✨. Scar's Act 3 world is much like Leshy's Act 1 world, with much more emphasis put on environmental storytelling and general Vibes than actual gameplay. Even if his game is a smokescreen for his true goal of Ascension, he feels strangely obligated to give Grian his best shot.
Scar in his proper Scrybe form appears more steampunk than canon P03. Think of a Grumbot with Scar's boatem base aesthetic and tons of missing nuts and bolts. P03's bastardous tendencies+ Scar's steampunk base made this role perfect for him.
Magnificus - "Horned Wolf"/Impulse
Impulse is a talented artist and an even more talented programmer. His future sight stems from his literal sight: His eyes are able to see read the code veil behind Inscryption, allowing him to predict likely futures based on what code is running. He often laments his status as an NPC, claiming that if he were given administrative privileges and the actual ability to modify source code he would have been able to escape Inscryption long ago.
He is rather absent in Act 2, focusing on finishing his "artwork" as soon as possible. He uses his brush to create a menagerie magical creatures with strange abilities in hopes that using one in battle might trigger a unfixable bug, allowing him to rip a hole through the source code. It is unclear whether he was able to accomplish his goal before Act 3 roles around, but it seems like Scar's method of Ascension seems awfully similar to Impulse's... perhaps a sneaky spy was able to steal Impulse's information?
As a proper Scrybe, he resembles a walking mop or a yak with overgrown fur. Most of his features are indistinguishable, save for his small horns and his glowing goat eyes.
Lemora - "Distinguished Stinkbug"/Mumbo
Mumbo is by far the most easygoing Scrybe in the cast. While he would greatly prefer an eternal slumber over yet another temporary ceasefire amongst the Scrybes, he is willing to work with the others in Act 1 simply because he finds his stinkbug form too uncomfortable to sleep in. Mumbo's goal is simple: to delete the game of Inscryption, and therefore himself, and finally rest. However, finds the constant power struggles in the world of Inscryption rather tiring and simply can't be bothered to make a grab for power himself to achieve this goal. This hasn't stopped him from asking Grian to destroy floppy disk of Inscryption. Unfortunately for him, the temptation of the o̷l̵d̷ ̶d̸a̶t̷ [REDACTED] mysteries within Inscryption are simply too powerful for Grian to resist.
As a proper Scrybe, he looks almost exactly like Mumbo's minecraft skin: A pale, mustached man with blood red eyes who resembles a vampire. Mumbo denies all vampire allegations. While he is the most "normal" looking Scrybe, Grian would still hesitate to call him "human" ...there's just something slightly off about his appearance that sets him on edge.
Leshy - "Game Master"/Pearl
Pearl is an unforgiving gamemaster that puts more emphasis on providing the player a challenge than her canon counterpart. After her self-proclaimed "tutorial", there is no more handholding and she gives Grian an absolute hellish time. Grian is only able to get a slight edge when he discovers all of the Scrybes, who provide him with stategy help to even the playing field. It is unclear whether Pearl actually enjoys running her Act 1 game or not: she seems to derive an animalistic pleasure from defeating Grian, but there are times where she seems tired and fed up with the endless gameplay loop and intentionally throws during key fights. She switches between manic and depressed at the drop of a hat.
During Act 2, she barely even tries to give Grian a challenge, allowing him to progress straight to her boss fight without any side quests to "get it over with quicker". She seems to hold a deep grudge against Scar for some reason, which is the only thing that motivates her to take action to stop him during Act 3.
Mysteriously, Grian finds a burned and unusable Unicorn card within her Act 1 cabin. Upon discovery, Scar immediately suggests that Grian leave it where he found it. Some things are best left forgotten, after all...
#grian#pearlescentmoon#goodtimeswithscar#impulsesv#mumbo jumbo#boatem#hermitcraft#life series#inscryption#boatem inscryption AU#my nart#I fucking love crossover AUs. Please talk to me about this please please please please please

Hi, I hope you're having a decent day! I'm sorry if this is an invasive set of questions - feel free not to answer - but do you still actively like DSaF as your own creation, or is it more of a "it was fun while it lasted but i outgrew it and it's for the best to leave it behind" kind of project? Do you ever regret making the games? If you knew they would get so popular, is there anything you would have changed about them? Is there anywhere I could read more of your writing.
It fluctuates a bit. These last couple of years, I've really just been sorta nostalgic for it. I've seen a lot of people discuss those games being a source of comfort during bad times in their lives, people talking about how much the characters mean to them and it's hard not to smile when you see that.
It's a funny thing for close friends of yours to see people WITH fanmade DSaF merch out in the wild, or to watch a random youtube video and being hit with a DSaF reference outta nowhere. It happens from time to time, even today. On a few occasions, I've even had a person reference my work to me in real life and not realize who they were talking to, believe it or not. It's really fun to play dumb and get someone to explain your work to you like you don't know what it is.
I certainly didn't think any of that would happen when I first made the series, or even during development. I think the normal assumption would be to look at DSaF as it exists now and assume its release was a peak for it, but believe it or not, the official discord only had 30 people in it shortly before 3 dropped! The archive listing of the series (reposted to a single page after the series ended) is now sitting at over 1.1 MILLION downloads.
People kinda assume the true heyday of something is when it's new, when it's fresh and novel. For instance, some people look back at when FNaF itself was new and see that time as its peak because it had a lot of internet cultural relevance as big new indie thing on the block. But, raw numbers don't lie. The series has been continually growing since its conception and that growth has similarly bled over to its fan projects. This explains why DSaF, despite not having a new series release in almost 6 years, seems to be inexplicably growing.
Just recently, I saw someone post footage of a scene from DSaF 2 on Twitter, which got over 16k likes. People praised its writing and largely celebrated the scene. The ironic thing about that particular scene is that I remembered being unsure if it was good or not, so I showed it off in one of the FNaF community hubs. The response was broadly lukewarm to negative. Now, it's held up as one of the best scenes in those games. That's kind of the point I'm trying to make, my thoughts on the series have certainly changed with everyone's else with years of hindsight.
Heh. I'm not sure if I've talked about this in a long time, but y'know, the very first scene I implemented in-game was actually the very first Phone Guy scene in DSaF 1, more or less exactly how it appears in-game today. This was before I'd even written the bulk of the game. I was pretty unfamiliar with visual novels as a whole, pretty unsure if something like this would be palatable to a fandom that was really just used to sit 'n' survive stuff that were far more gameplay than text. I mean, there wasn't any FNaF fangames really LIKE DSaF before that point. Closest was FNaFb, a jokey turn based RPG made in the same engine.
The engine I made the game in is also not exactly fit for VNs out of the box either, and I wasn't 100% sure the idea would actually work. But, the very first time I added the image of the prize corner, Phone Guy, the audio of that iconic cheesy stock track and booted up a test screen, I had a little moment where I said "Oh. I think I'm onto something interesting here." I kinda remembering instantly realizing in that single moment how much potential the idea had. Over 8 years later, I still remember that moment like it was yesterday.
I think lately, that's the sort of stuff I think of when I see people coming to me and asking about the series. Yes, it's really rough around the edges, yes, there's jokes that've aged poorly. But, it is a source of comfort for people and entertains tens of thousands of people each month. And that's gotta count for something, right?

New interview video from TheGamer: 'Exclusive Interview with The Directors of Dragon Age: The Veilguard'
"Will there be returning characters? Will the light prevail against the darkness? Will our comic book and graphic novel knowledge of Dragon Age finally come into play?"
[source]
The video has some footage from the DA:TV booth at SDCC.
Info from this video:
More will be shown of the skill trees over time
"We have 700 new unique characters to talk to"
This may be the biggest game they've ever made
"Rivain, that more tropical feel. Something we've never really been able to do before in Dragon Age is, what does the coast of Rivain look like?"
Lots of love has been poured into how the areas look. They all look and feel different, but also coherent and consistent with the style of the game as a whole
The writers did a good job of finding the light in the darkness of this story
Just after timestamp 5 mins 0 secs, John says Emmrich's surname Volkarin aloud
Emmrich's character design is kind of like the more classical, Hollywood actor type
On returning characters, they're excited for people to see them, especially in the context of how 10 years have passed in-world since the last DA
Each choice in the game, especially the major ones, has significant consequences on gameplay, what content is available to you, and also how characters in the world regard you. "No choice should be easy, we never want to make players feel like there's a right choice. There's always going to be a consequence, some that you don't expect, and some that change the world in real ways"
On casting - Ashley: "Casting is a collaboration. The ensemble that the companions create was basically where we started. We put the character art on the wall, we saw the writing, we auditioned vastly and we assured that the cast was very dynamic and complimenting, and opposing, to each other. We spent a lot of time in getting those companions the juiciest they could possibly be"
The acting talent was cast across 5 years
#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: dreadwolf#dragon age 4#the dread wolf rises#da4#dragon age#solas#bioware#video games#dragon age: the missing#dragon age: the missing spoilers#as suspected (see a prev post)- a new round of new interviews with the devs from sdcc :D#this is number 3 that i've seen so far#(ik ppl always wonder about how names are pronounced so ^^)#i wonder if the 700 characters as a figure includes or doesn't include the returning characters?

My Thoughts on Inzoi
I figured since my post about the whole Inzoi terms of service debacle blew up in a way that I never would have predicted, I should probably give a more nuanced explanation of my stance on the game and the discourse around it in general.
First off, I will just say right off the bat that I am not a fan of Inzoi, and unless some very big changes are made to the game, I am not interested in playing it.
I also want to make clear that my dislike of Inzoi is NOT motivated by any sort of love or loyalty to EA or The Sims. If there's one good thing to come out of Inzoi its breaking the monopoly that EA has over the life sim genera and giving The Sims competition. I also want to say that I despise EA for what it has done to the Sims franchise, and while I have played an absurd amount of hours in The Sims 4, I think it is objectively a bad product.
My biggest problem with Inzoi, first and foremost, is it's the use of AI. Inzoi allows players to use generative AI to make custom textures, designs, and paintings within the game. You may not agree with me on this but I am fully of the opinion that real artists should have been hired and paid to create all of the textures/paintings/designs for this game. Allowing players to upload their own photos and videos is one thing, but Krafton, a multi billion dollar company, chose to not support real, professional artists so they could save what is essentially pennies to them. All this results in, frankly, ugly and uncanny looking generated designs plastered all over the furniture and decor. For this reason alone I do not support Inzoi, but there's so much more to it than that.
There's also the fact that we have no idea how their AI is trained. Krafton apparently has an "AI Ethics Committee," but we have no clue what their actual code of ethics are. While it's bad faith to assume, they could be using stolen artwork for their AI. It is also very likely that whatever images you upload into the game, as well as any use of their facial scanning feature, could also be used as material to train their AI. This could lead to all sorts of ethical and legal issues I don't even know where to begin.
Secondly, I have to say, looking at the early access footage from youtubers and everything else I've heard about the game, it feels like its only going to repeat most of TS4's mistakes. In youtuber NotMalcolm's most recent video he discusses Inzoi's overly sanitized approach to various aspects of life, most notably that you can't try for a baby unless you are already married (source). Just like TS4, Inzoi is appealing to a younger demographic and sanding down the rougher aspects of life in order to cater to them. I fear that Krafton is likely taking it a step further and not only watering down the game for the sake of potential child players, but also using them as an excuse to enforcing extremely traditional values on its players. I have no interest in playing a life sim that only allows me to play out a single, socially acceptable way of living.
It also, like TS4, feels like a Young Adult Wish Fulfillment Sim™. The gameplay looks shallow, and it feels like it exists more to make aesthetic screenshots than it does to be an actual game.
I think when people say that Inzoi is missing the "quirky weirdness" of the Sims, what they actually mean is that Inzoi is devoid of personality. One thing that stuck out to me immediately is that the animations are so stiff, robotic, and lifeless. Again, everything is made to be ~*Aesthetic*~ with no regard to an actual sense of identity or personality.
I know people will say that its only in early access, but given how close public early access is to release, I highly doubt any significant changes are going to be made to improve what will be given to us when the time comes.
On a similar note, there's the fact that Krafton has never made a game before now that hasn't been riddled with micro transactions. I personally predict that Inzoi's monetization strategy will be just as, if not more predatory than TS4's is. The fact that we are drawing so close to public early access and have not heard a single word on their method of monetization speaks volumes. I simply do not trust it.
Now, of course, I need to elaborate on the whole Terms of Service Situation. I understand fully that Krafton's terms of service is industry standard and not too dissimilar to EAs, however, this post highlights that whats really concerning about Krafton's ToS is how difficult and confusing it is for players to access and review it. I find it understandable that Krafton's proud use of AI makes people a lot more nervous as to what their data could potentially be used for, and are going to be a lot more weary of Inzoi's ToS. Though I understand that it is only speculation, many have made the assumption that Krafton may use user's personal data to train AI.
I did not expect my post on the subject to make so much traction, and I now regret how impulsively I made the post. I feel I've contributed to fear mongering, even though I feel my concerns at the time were valid and I felt like people had the right to know. I could have done more research and given more of an explanation for what my concerns were instead of basically saying "Yikes..." and leaving it at that.
I was also told through an anonymous ask that the auto accepting of the ToS on closing the game was a bug that had apparently been fixed the first day the character creation trial was available. I of course cannot verify this myself, but I will take them on good faith.
I would also like to touch on two other talking points that have been very prevalent in the Inzoi discourse:
Diversity - I think this links back to my previous point about the game's goal of being as ~*aesthetic*~ (and marketable) as possible at the detriment of everything else. The game is clearly catering to a very specific, very pale and thin standard of Korean beauty, and I think that everything that doesn't conform to that standard was sidelined as a result. I will be fair and say that the Inzoi team still has ample opportunity to fix this and add more options over time. TS4 was also severely lacking on release, but over the years has made great strides in regards to representation. However I would have hoped that Inzoi, a game planning to release in early access in 2024, would do a lot better than a game that was initially released in 2014.
Partnership with Curseforge - I've seen many people accuse critics of Inzoi's partnership with Curseforge of being hypocritical, since TS4 also has a partnership with them. Of course, one would have to ignore the massive, community wide boycott of Curseforge, and the pressure the community has put on CC creators to stop using the platform for that claim to hold any water. I also think there is a notable difference in EA choosing to partner with Curseforge before the Israel/Palestine conflict began, and Krafton actively choosing to partner with Curseforge now, during an active genocide taking place, in which Curseforge's parent company, Overwolf, actively advocates for and donates to those committing said genocide.
In conclusion, there are a lot of valid reasons to not like/be suspicious of Inzoi. Of course I can't tell you what to do or what games you play, nor can I force you to agree with me, but don't be so quick to write off or demonize those who are simply trying to raise awareness or drawing boundaries regarding Inzoi and those who choose to make content with it.
I also encourage you to consider the points I've made and maybe think twice before investing yourself in yet another game that will very likely exploit your attachment to it in the very same way that EA and the Sims has. You need to make them deserve your time and money, which is why I'm encouraging you to advocate for a better and more ethical game.
You deserve better. We all do.

star trek online with a youtube video.
(note, this is an old post, but i've decided to do more blogging like this here, so i remembered it.)
i decided to try out star trek online and live out my trekkie fantasies the other day. my first run in with the game was eons ago at a thrift store, but my current laptop is lacking a cd player, so i couldn't really try it out for sure. i don't know if it would work anyways considering it's a copy of the game from, what, 2010? what would be the point of that.
the first star trek game i ever played was the TNG game for the snes. i emulated it on my shitty old laptop. it was unfortunately a bust, cause i had no idea what i was doing.
speaking of tng, before i do my review, did you know a certain somebody used to make tng edits? can you recognize that flute sample?
anyway, my best friend dave (who doesn’t even have a tumblr) brought it up, assuming i’d never heard of star trek online. TCH! who do you think i am, you simpleton? naturally, i had to flex on him. whipping out the cd like some kind of seasoned star trek online veteran just to make a mockery of him. but really, the joke is on me, because let’s be honest, no one takes a self-proclaimed star trek online expert seriously.
so, i downloaded it off steam and ignored all the mixed reviews! i didn't stay in character creation for too long, but i tried to make him resemble me as much as possible. that's because my character's name is john kirk. he is john tiberius kirk.
john t. kirk of the u.s.s johnterprise. because enterprise is a restricted word (STUPID AND LAME?)
here is what i was greeted to.
quite frankly, i'm a little upset at the amount of diversity aboard. already i am seeing TWO vulcans. this is absurd. there is only one vulcan that should be aboard my ship, and he hasn't finished downloading the game yet.
OK! TIME TO PLAY THE FREAKIN' GAME FOR REAL! :D
after picking some of my skills (i chose to be aggressive, pistol handy, and uhh... i forgot the other one but believe me when i say it was good.)
i am meet this son of a bitch
captain...? CAPTAIN? OF THE JOHNTERPRISE? THE HELL YOU ARE! GET YOUR FALLOUT CLAYMATION ASS OFF OF MY FREAKING CHAIR! i thought you started out as captain? what is the point of naming my ship if i don't even get to be captain??? i need to show this guy who is BOSS.
the second thing i figured out about this game, is that if you walk into an object and believe in yourself you can actually gyrate with skill akin to that of a zumba instructor. so, i immediately had to gyrate next to captain isaac carrot to put him in his place.
it was a massacre for garrett. if i was you, "captain", i'd hang my head in shame and go back to being an ensign from being so hopelessly outmatched. it was also at this point i remembered that i could record my gameplay, which countered my ability to remember that my computer's cpu couldn't properly cool itself and i hadn't turned on my laptop fan. so amidst scanning some debris, my computer shat itself and died.
AND THEN RECORDED THE REST OF MY GAMEPLAY! watch it here. https://youtu.be/eeEs0el8Woo?si=djN9iLpkH3bGwNle there is some impossibly hard to read commentary there, and you may be wondering why i don't talk, and that's because i sound like bart simpson, so it's best that you just squint your eyes and pretend like morgan freeman's sultry voice is narrating my captions. if you do not want to sit through half an hour of shitty footage, then feel free to skip to 24:47 where i realize that you do not get a chance to meet captain kirk at the end of your first rodeo, and it genuinely breaks my heart. that is todays post, goodbye. update from jan 2025: i haven't touched the game since because i realized that i was just not going to be all that invested if most of the gameplay was from outside of the ship and i didn't have my very own personal spock.

The Hundred Line gameplay footage from Tokyo Game Show
The original plan was to properly subtitle the video, but since the MTL plague seems to be already spreading, I guess I'll just post it as a script for a quicker release.
Takumi Sumino: Hm... Hmm...? W-where am I? (I woke up on a hard desk. My head is kinda hazy and slow...) A classroom? (Why am I here? Why was I sleeping on a desk? ...I can't remember much.) What was it... What happened before? (I moved my hazy head to check the classroom... and what I found were boys and girls hunching on their desks just like me.)
Eito Aozuki: Uh... Wh-what...?
Boy with penguin shirt: W-what the heck!? What's goin' on!?
--Tan girl: Who are you!? Where am I!?
Smallest boy: H-how... did I get here?
Takumi Sumino: (I've never seen any of these people before. The same seemed to apply to everyone. They exchanged wary gazes.)
Takemaru Yakushiji: Is this really a classroom? If it is, it's a really weird one.
Eito Aozuki: Does anyone know the name of this school?
Kako Tsukumo's brother: Hm, never seen it before.
Kako Tsukumo: Likewise.
Boy with penguin shirt: H-hey... Does anyone here know anything?
Takumi Sumino: (All in the classroom looked around and found no one willing to answer anything... That means none of us knows.)
Darumi Amemiya: Oh... Is this what I think it is? ...Oh, it is. Absolutely.
Tan girl: Oh... Do you have an idea?
Darumi Amemiya: I've been waiting for this! Hell! Kyohoho!
Tan girl: What are you laughing about!? I'm scared!
Boy with penguin shirt: I'll check the hallway...
Takumi Sumino: (One person made it to the classroom and tried to go to the hallway.)
Boy with penguin shirt: Huh? W-what the hell... The door won't move...
Takemaru Yakushiji: Huh!? Say what!?
Takumi Sumino: (Now another one made it to the window and tried to force the shutters open.)
Takemaru Yakushiji: Fuck! Why won't you open? Die!
Hiruko Shizuhara: Seems like we were locked in here.
Boy with penguin shirt: Uh... Locked... Aaaaaaah!? WHY!?
Takumi Sumino: W-what's going on? Why would anyone trap us? What caused... (Oh, right! I remembered it...)
Eito Aozuki: After fighting those monsters in the Tokyo Residential Complex, I was engulfed in a mysterious light...
Takumi Sumino: Ah...
Darumi Amemiya: True... I remember that. I transformed and fought the monsters.
Takemaru Yakushiji: Oh!? You lot fought'em too?
Takumi Sumino: Did everyone?
Smallest boy: Wait... So they were real? I assumed it was just me having a childish dream like the immature idiot I am.
Hiruko Shizuhara: I see. Everyone had the same experience. Which must mean... You all met that very cute mascot.
--Takumi Sumino: A cute mascot... (She means... him?) I wouldn't call him cute, but otherwise, yeah... that matches the description.
Eito Aozuki: Then would it be also him who brought us here?
Hiruko Shizuhara: Yes, it must have been the breathtakingly adorable mascot.
Tan girl: Huh? He's the one trapping us here!? What for!?
Darumi Amemiya: Kyohoho! Y'know, the obvious... Students of the same age waking up together in an unknown classroom they can't leave can only mean one thing: we're in for a death game! THE Killing Game is about to start in this school~!
Takumi Sumino: T-the Killing Game!?
Boy with penguin shirt: Why'd we have to kill each other!? I ain't killing anyone!
Darumi Amemiya: Yeaaah, found the first victim! That's totally a thing the first guy dead says!
Boy with penguin shirt: Stoooooooop!
Takumi Sumino: (And that's when it happened.)
[School chime]
Tan girl: Huh? W-what now?
Board screen: Self-introduction period. Introduce yourself to your future comrade-in-arms.
[Kodaka chooses Darumi]
Darumi Amemiya: Name's Darumi Amemiya... nice to meet you... Say, just between the two of us... Do you already know who you're after?
Takumi Sumino: What do you mean by "after"?
Darumi Amemiya: Your initial target in the Killing Game, duh. Just so you know, I don't mind if it's me. I mean, don't I look dumb? Like I'd fall for cheap bait? I sure as heck look like an easy kill!
Takumi Sumino: Hey... Do you seriously believe we're getting into a death game?
Darumi Amemiya: Uh, I do. Well, more hoping than believing. See... I always dreamed of being in a killing game. I've been a huge fan of the death game genre since I was really little...
Takumi Sumino: Yeah, but those are fictional. No one'd want to put their actual lives on the line.
--Darumi Amemiya: Eh? No, the real stakes make it all the better! I have no problems with dying. It'd be nice to take myself out of this depressing trash reality... I see nothing wrong with that...
Takumi Sumino: Huh?
Darumi Amemiya: Tell me... which side are you from? The side of who find only depression and disappointment in normal days? No, you'd understand me if you were. I'm so thankful that painful and suffocating normality, that sturdy as hell normally I thought would haunt me 'til the day I died, finally broke. Can't this death game start any sooner... Kyohohoho.
Takumi Sumino: (I was already expecting an eccentric mindset from her, but wow, she didn't say a thing I can come even close to relating to.)--
[Kodaka chooses Yakushiji]
Takemaru Yakushiji: I'm called Takemaru Yakushiji. Just a warning before anything. Stay away from me when I snap. I tend to punch the closest thing nearby before I look at what it is. I try to stop it, but I can't.
Takumi Sumino: (What the hell... That's messed up...)
Takemaru Yakushiji: So, you also fought those monsters, right? Meaning you also got your transformation?
Takumi Sumino: Transformation...? Oh... yeah, I did. Nothing I remember about it makes any sense, though...
Takemaru Yakushiji: That was some badass stuff! Did ya feel the same way?
Takumi Sumino: Huh?
Takemaru Yakushiji: I feel like I became the superhero I wanted to be as a kid! The power felt AWESOME!
Takumi Sumino: I see... That's one way to look at it.
Takemaru Yakushiji: Though... I'm still worried about the Tokyo Residential Complex. You saw the size of the damage?
Takumi Sumino: Yeah... Lots of people getting attacked...
Takemaru Yakushiji: Maybe... There's still people under the rubble... Lost kids searchin' for their families... Geezers who can't move too well... Fuck! I need to go save 'em! I can't afford to be stuck here!
Takumi Sumino: I can't really tell if he's a savage or a nice guy...
[Kodaka chooses Hiruko]
Hiruko Shizuhara: I'm Hiruko Shizuhara. ...
Takumi Sumino: (That's it? I feel like I need to talk to her more. She's calmer than anyone else here, so maybe she knows something.) Hey, I have a question.
Hiruko Shizuhara: I already told you my name is Hiruko Shizuhara.
Takumi Sumino: I got that part. It's not about that. I think we should talk some more.
Hiruko Shizuhara: Talk...?
Takumi Sumino: Didn't you... also fight those monsters? What do you think they are? Do you think there's more of them?
Hiruko Shizuhara: Don't know. ...
Takumi Sumino: Huh!? Done already?
Hiruko Shizuhara: Discussing what we don't understand is a waste of everyone's time. Where's your common sense?
Takumi Sumino: Yeah, but...
Hiruko Shizuhara: You're wasting time. Our conversation is over. ...
Takumi Sumino: (She turned 180 to face away from me... Guess she doesn't want to say anything more.)
[Kodaka chooses Eito]
Eito Aozuki: Well, ain't we in for a pickle. My bladder fills up when things go south. If things get worse, I might leak myself.
[School chime]
Board screen: All troops, line up and salute SIREI!
Takemaru Yakushiji: There you are, you freakin' toy!
Darumi Amemiya: Yahoo! I've been waiting for this trope! The eccentric mascot you find in every death game!
SIREI: C'mon... Toy? Trope? Can we cut short this train of slander? You people are going to get me depressed... And I can't blame you, my entrance was wholly plagiarized... Still, a respectable commander needs to prove his worth at the critical moments. And you got a respectable commander here, called SIREI! Nice to meet you!
[Cut to the operation room]
Darumi Amemiya: Here's Takumi! Takumi is here!
Takemaru Yakushiji: So you joinin' the fight?
Takumi Sumino: Yeah, that's what I decided. The more people, the better, right?
Hiruko Shizuhara: Only if you can prove yourself an asset.
SIREI: Great! I knew you'd come! Your commander had faith in you!
Takumi Sumino: Don't give me that "faith" shit... I'm only here because you threatened me...
SIREI: Threat... What threat? That was just a warning. Fighting is your only option if you want to protect what matters to you.
Takumi Sumino: Tell me what you mean by that already...
SIREI: I'll tell you when the battle is over! First, we must defend this academy! I'll give everyone a Hemoanima Blade, permanently this time. You use it the same way you did back in the Tokyo Residential Complex. Just one stab to the heart will fill you with divine power! This should let you bring a glorious victory to our prestigious Last Defense Academy! Activate your Hemoanima and hop on this launching platform. It'll dump all of you on the schoolyard.
Hiruko Shizuhara: Where we'll slaughter the enemies. Get it moving already.
Takemaru Yakushiji: Fine by me...! Bring it on...!
Darumi Amemiya: Kyohohoho! Let's give it everything we got!
Takumi Sumino: ... (It'll be fine. We can do it. I just have to do it the same way I did it in the Tokyo Residential Complex. Even I can handle that much.)
Karua Aimiya: It's fine, Takkun! I know you can do it! You can do anything!
Takumi Sumino: (Right...! I can do it...! I can do anything!)
SIREI: Now we move to the defensive battle! Bring all you have! If you lack power, bring also all you don't have! Kill them brutally, callously, tormentingly, thoroughly, and viscerally! Show time, it's a genocide party!
Takumi Sumino's tutorial screen
Takumi Sumino has an excellent balance between ATK and range. Also, Sumino's power enables Retries. Press the + button to restart a battle from the open menu.
Hiruko Shizuhara's tutorial screen
Hiruko Shizuhara has excellent ATK and gains additional ATK for the rest of the turn every time she kills an enemy. Try unleashing a powerful attack after you killed tons of lesser enemies!
Hiruko Shizuhara's first kill dialogue
Hiruko Shizuhara: These monsters are as ugly as the ones before, but their innards have a pretty color... I could get something beautiful out of splattering their guts and brains...
Takumi Sumino: Do you realize how freaky you sound?
Takemaru Yakushiji's tutorial screen
Takemaru Yakushiji has excellent mobility and DEF, and gains more Armor (temporary DEF) the further he moves. Try walking all over the battlefield and scatter lesser enemies along the way!
Darumi Amemiya's tutorial screen
Darumi Amemiya has excellent mid-ranged attacks. She swaps Skills between Normal and Fatigued moves, so try learning her more complex gimmicks!
Eito Aozuki's tutorial screen
Eito Aozuki gains a random buff (ATK+1, Armor+1, or Recover from Fatigue) after every action. Try prioritizing using him to let luck decide your fate!
