looking to find new trans and queer friends on tumblr? It can be difficult because many queer tags are spammed with porn bots. Here are some tips!

When searching a tag, filter your results to remove videos and pictures. Porn bots mostly post one of the two. The text posts, quotes, and polls left behind are usually real people.

Check on the right sidebar where it shows you blogs who regularly use the tags youre searching in!

Check out specialized tags made by the community rather than general phrases. For example "transblr" (short for trans + tumblr) usually has less spam than just "trans" or "transgender"

Look at the people that you reblog from reblog from. Your mutuals in law, if you will. Does blog x that you like reblog a lot from blog y? Try following blog y, and keep doing that a bunch to find new people.

Dont be afraid to approach people, even people who are different from you. Following someone who has very different experiences than you do can be eye opening, and also reveal just how similar we all are.

That said, also dont be afraid to block people for any reason. Any reason at all. Theyre a bigot? Blocked. Not a bigot but just generally not a nice person and watching them argue all day stresses you out? Blocked. They shit talk your favorite soup? Blocked. They post a million fics with no read more and it clogs up tags you visit and you just want to see other things but bear them no ill will? Blocked. This is your space and it is your responsibility and your privilege to curate your experience yourself.
