Ig it's Storytime with Dom now @not-so-local-lesbian lol Where do I begin. Hm. I really don't know how to start but basically, two bandits broke into my family home last week, and now i'm recovering from trauma š Now for the long story. For context first. My grandparents built a home here where I live, that's in the Philippines. Locals call it, the Engineer's House, for the sole fact that my late grandfather was a mechanical engineer, who designed and built the home himself before he passed away 8 years ago. There's swimming pool, a pond, a farm, and a lot of mango trees. 80 Mango Trees to be exact. Quite proud of them heh. I am set to inherit the land in a couple years or so. I forgot how large the lot is exactly, but it's enough to fit a couple basketball courts within heh. Last week, two bandits broke into it. Thank gosh, my family and I weren't there at the time, as we were in Quezon City, hanging out with my two aunts from Australia who were visiting. How did we know the broke in? They were caught by my mother's CCTV she installed in the living room. At 2:28 AM, my mother was notified by the motion sensor, to which thankfully she was awake at the time, talking with one of my aunts. At first she thought it was a spider, but upon closer look. There was a man going down the stairs. She originally thought it was ghost, but looked closer to find that they were indeed, bandits. Two Bandits. their faces were covered. So, my mum panicked, and my aunt. my other aunt woke up to the panics, and also panicked herself. I woke up around the time they realized two people broke in, and rushed to call our relatives who lived nearby. Thankfully, we managed to wake up one of my aunts who lived in the same barangay (that's sorta like a village ig). Her husband went in with a flashlight which managed to scare away the bandits. and boy, was it a mess inside. And yeah, that's what happened. My family had to pack to drive all the way there to investigate what happened and clean up the mess inside. While we drove, which took 6 hours, the police were notified of the incident and investigated the crime. I won't go into too much detail from what happened when we arrived, but from what I could tell of investigating it myself, the two bandits were spying on the home from the mango trees outside. around late night, they made their way in over the fence, and up to the third floor balcony, through which is where they broke in. they searched through everything on the second floor. Only thing they could find that looked valuable was my late great-grandmother's bag of old coins and a few bags. When my relatives scared em, the only thing they managed to steal was two. fucking. bags. TWO. BAGS. OUT OF EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE. OUT OF THE VASES AND TECH. THEY ONLY MANAGED TO STEAL TWO FUCKING BAGS. I'M NOT BLOODY JOKINGG what's even funnier, is when they were inside our home, they fucking drank water in the kitchen and even popped out some of the ice, and wine. Oh yeah, and they also saw the cctv and managed to take it out, but THEY DROPPED IT OUTSIDE THE HOME. ALONG WITH THE BAG OF COINS LIKE WHAT?? HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE?? The coins date back all the way to 1972, so i understand they can't really be used... BUT LIKE, THEY STILL HAVE VALUE??? WHY WWOULD YOU DROP SO MUCH ON THE GROUND?? WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DROP EVERYTHING??? It's a good thing at least, that they dropped them. BUT WHYYY???? AND ALSO GET THIS. THEY LEFT THEIR FUCKING TOOLS INSIDE. EVERYTHING. AND THEIR FINGERPRINTS. AND SANDALS. AND EVEN HOODIES. THEY'RE SO STUPID LMAOO So, yeah, there's my story. it was really traumatizing knowing i could have been there that day. and. i could have died. Because they had weapons when they broke in. the weapons were discovered to have been hidden under the bed. But yeah anyways, theres storytime for today. i'm going to be fine too dw, i can walk it off :PP

A mountain in New Zealand considered an ancestor by Indigenous people was recognized as a legal person on Thursday [January 30, 2025] after a new law granted it all the rights and responsibilities of a human being.
Mount Taranaki ā now known as Taranaki Maunga, its MÄori name ā is the latest natural feature to be granted personhood in New Zealand, which has ruled that a river and a stretch of sacred land are people before. The pristine, snow-capped dormant volcano is the second highest on New Zealand's North Island at 2,518 meters (8,261 feet) and a popular spot for tourism, hiking and snow sports.
The legal recognition acknowledges the mountain's theft from the MÄori of the Taranaki region after New Zealand was colonized. It fulfills an agreement of redress from the country's government to Indigenous people for harms perpetrated against the land since.
How can a mountain be a person?
The law passed Thursday gives Taranaki Maunga all the rights, powers, duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a person. Its legal personality has a name: Te KÄhui Tupua, which the law views as "a living and indivisible whole." It includes Taranaki and its surrounding peaks and land, "incorporating all their physical and metaphysical elements."
A newly created entity will be "the face and voice" of the mountain, the law says, with four members from local MÄori iwi, or tribes, and four members appointed by the country's Conservation Minister.

Why is this mountain special?
"The mountain has long been an honored ancestor, a source of physical, cultural and spiritual sustenance and a final resting place," Paul Goldsmith, the lawmaker responsible for the settlements between the government and MÄori tribes, told Parliament in a speech on Thursday.
But colonizers of New Zealand in the 18th and 19th centuries took first the name of Taranaki and then the mountain itself. In 1770, the British explorer Captain James Cook spotted the peak from his ship and named it Mount Egmont.
In 1840, MÄori tribes and representatives of the British crown signed the Treaty of Waitangi ā New Zealand's founding document ā in which the Crown promised MÄori would retain rights to their land and resources. But the MÄori and English versions of the treaty differed ā and Crown breaches of both began immediately.
In 1865, a vast swathe of Taranaki land, including the mountain, was confiscated to punish MÄori for rebeling against the Crown. Over the next century hunting and sports groups had a say in the mountain's management ā but MÄori did not.
"Traditional MÄori practices associated with the mountain were banned while tourism was promoted," Goldsmith said. But a MÄori protest movement of the 1970s and '80s has led to a surge of recognition for the MÄori language, culture and rights in New Zealand law.
Redress has included billions of dollars in Treaty of Waitangi settlements ā such as the agreement with the eight tribes of Taranaki, signed in 2023.
How will the mountain use its rights?
"Today, Taranaki, our maunga, our maunga tupuna, is released from the shackles, the shackles of injustice, of ignorance, of hate," said Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, a co-leader of the political party Te PÄti MÄori and a descendant of the Taranaki tribes, using a phrase that means ancestral mountain.
"We grew up knowing there was nothing anyone could do to make us any less connected," she added.
The mountain's legal rights are intended to uphold its health and wellbeing. They will be employed to stop forced sales, restore its traditional uses and allow conservation work to protect the native wildlife that flourishes there. Public access will remain.
Do other parts of New Zealand have personhood?
New Zealand was the first country in the world to recognize natural features as people when a law passed in 2014 granted personhood to Te Urewera, a vast native forest on the North Island. Government ownership ceased and the tribe TÅ«hoe became its guardian.
"Te Urewera is ancient and enduring, a fortress of nature, alive with history; its scenery is abundant with mystery, adventure, and remote beauty," the law begins, before describing its spiritual significance to MÄori. In 2017, New Zealand recognized the Whanganui River as human, as part of a settlement with its local iwi.
How much support did the law receive?
The bill recognizing the mountain's personhood was affirmed unanimously by Parliament's 123 lawmakers. The vote was greeted by a ringing waiata ā a MÄori song ā from the public gallery, packed with dozens who had traveled to the capital, Wellington, from Taranaki.
The unity provided brief respite in a tense period for race relations in New Zealand. In November, tens of thousands of people marched to Parliament to protest a law that would reshape the Treaty of Waitangi by setting rigid legal definitions for each clause. Detractors say the law ā which is not expected to pass ā would strip MÄori of legal rights and dramatically reverse progress from the past five decades.

Note: The article doesn't get fully into the implications of the broader, global "rights of nature" movement (of which this is part), which is powerful tool for not only recognizing Indigenous ways of relating to the world, but also preventing ecological damage.
Examples of rights of nature include rivers having the right to not be polluted, etc. Powerful tool for leveraging the courts and legal frameworks against environmental destruction.

Hana-Rawhiti's Haka was entirely appropriate, not only given the situation, but in keeping with the way MÄori do things.
In formal situations, such as a pÅwhiri (English might be something like a welcoming ceremony?), speakers always end with a haka or a waiata (song). This is exactly what she did. She spoke when it was her turn to speak, then started the Haka. It is also keeping with tradition that others joined in, including those in the public gallery. While it's the speaker's duty to lead the haka, or nominate someone to do it for them, it is then open for anyone else to join in and support it. The haka and the speech are attached, so supporting the haka is also supporting the speech.
Approaching Seymour is a little more unusual, but that's only because most formal situations like this are between peaceful groups. However, it also makes an important point. The speech and haka were not against the space, not against the mana of parliament. It was against Seymour and his supporters. So approaching him makes that clear where it's directed.
Given this, the speaker's response show utter ignorance and contempt for Maori ways. If he had any understanding of how any of this works, he could've simply waited for the Haka to conclude, then called on the next speaker. As the MÄori Party were keeping with tradition, they would've had to respect that, and sit. Instead, he closed down parliament and cleared the public out. He made this contentious, and took what is traditional as in insult.
Seymour's response is no better, complaining about wanting a "reasonable debate" instead of a "dance", ignoring that the MÄori party has been debating this, along with almost every other institution in the country, since the draft was released. This was the party's final word, their final push back against his racist bill.
This, in a nutshell, is what the government thinks of MÄori. Ignorance and contempt. No attempt to blend traditions, or even basic understanding. Just constant demands to conform. It's hidden behind manners, but it's the same civilised vs savages racism that's justified colonialism for centuries.
Hana-Rawhiti acted with amazing poise and mana. Toitū te Tiriti!

This is how any corporation functions. First, increasing profits is done by attracting more customers. Then, once they have all the customers they're going to get, increasing profits is done by increasing prices or cutting costs.

āwhat if kids identify with something and it ends up just being a phase-?ā good. stop teaching and expecting kids (and adults honestly) to formulate permanent traits and ideas of themselves. everything in life is a phase. that doesnāt make it any less legitimate while you experience it. let people explore themselves and know itās okay if what you think about yourself changes.

I'm not against MAPs, but I'm against Child Groomers. "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK DOM??? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!????" look I'm really sorry, I'm aware that this is very a difficult topic. But I believe it's important to discuss it. I strongly oppose child grooming and abuse, but I also believe in addressing the disorder to prevent harm before it happens. let me explain. Child SA is one of the most immoral, unethical, and horrifying crimes a person can commit. There is no justification for harming children. offenders should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Acting on harmful impulses is a choice, but having them is not We must remember though, ped0philia itself is a disorder. It's not a choice. People do not wake up and decide to feel this way. It is a condition studied in psychiatry and recognized in the DSM-5 as a ParaphilicDisorder. To be classified as "Ped0philic Disorder," a person must either act on these urges or experience distress because of them. Unfortunately quite like most of the known disorders, there is not one single known cause, but a complex interplay of possible factors such as Neurological differences (some studies show abnormalities in the brain, particularly in areas related to impulse control and sexual attraction), Childhood trauma/abuse (though not all abused children become ped0philes), and/or Genetic and environmental factors. Another thing to remember is, not everyone with pedophilic attractions commits crimes. Some recognize that their urges are dangerous and actively seek treatment to prevent harm. Therapy, cognitive behavioral interventions, and medication exist to help manage these thoughts. Programs like Germanyās Dunkelfeld Project offer support for those who seek help before acting on their impulses.
Now here's an important distinction to make. Not all individuals with ped0philic attractions act on them. Some recognize their urges as harmful and seek help voluntarily, which can prevent harm to children. However, once an individual engages in Child SA, they are not just a person with a disorder - they have committed a criminal act and are legally accountable.
That said, once a person grooms or abuses a child, they are no longer just someone with a disorder. they are a criminal. Having a disorder is not a crime, but choosing to act on it is.
By prioritizing prevention, treatment, and strict legal consequences, we can protect children more effectively than focusing only on punishment after harm has been done. TL;DR:
I am 100% against child grooming and abuse. It is one of the most horrific crimes, and offenders should face the full force of the law.
However, ped0philia itself is a psychiatric disorder, not a choice. Some people with these urges recognize the harm they could cause and seek treatment before acting on them. Therapy, medication, and intervention programs exist to help prevent harm.
The key distinction: Having a disorder is not a crime, but acting on it is. Grooming and abuse must be punished, while early intervention and treatment can help protect children before harm occurs.
Reblog if you're LGBT and are against MAPS/Child Groomers
#I will always advocate for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.#I am not pro-ped0.#I am pro-treatment.#I will never excuse the act of committing assault#and i will never try to normalize assault#If we can treat them#let's help treat them
