Note: the beginning of this article might seem to be implying that the ao3 cyberattack did in fact have religious motivations, which ao3 themselves has stated is probably incorrect (and sources seem to back them up). However, the danger we all face from this shit is very real, and the government is refusing to take steps to actually protect kids in favor of rampant queerphobia and draconian censorship.

…I don’t think I’ll ever understand how aspec identities are “baffling” to “selfish” or “dysfunctional” to conservative and legalistic church folk when…they basically demand sexual abstinence, until their Sanctioned Marriage anyway (but still struggle with the concept that allo women have sex drives, too.)

You’d think they’d be supportive of grey and demi identities, or consider “classic” ones nbd. But it’s never been about the spectrum of human preferences to them, it’s about controlling people’s personal lives, particularly women and all queer folk, specifically.

Honestly it's rougher when people are visibly uncomfortable about my presence than it is when they're openly hateful

I can easily write off hate and emotionally block myself off. But refusing to look at me, shifting away, or avoiding speaking to me because I'm visibly trans and disabled aches in my chest.

Reading my « Psychology social & inter-cultural psychology » classbook and thinking about transphobia because of this « When people have to explain, they exacerbate the differences. When people think the difference is biological, they exaggerate the differences when the description is the same. »

Uptick in Nihilism

there’s something important to be said about queer teenage/young adult nihilism. I think most people realize that a big part of puberty / maturity includes letting go and not taking things as seriously as you did before. (case in point: I witnessed a toddler call her friend “the worst person in the world” because her friend threatened to tattle something to her mom. Obviously if this happened with teenagers/adults the behavior would be seen as immature.)

but I think it’s especially prevalent in millennials/gen z, due to information exposure, and even more so in minority groups.

as a way to explain this, I want to share how this happened to me:

As a young queer feminist on the internet, I witnessed queer/allied creators exposed to hundreds of disgusting and bigoted comments. YouTube shorts showed a scary amount of “FEMINIST gets PWNED by ANDREW TATE” and “TRANS ACTIVIST goes AGAINST (incorrect pronouns) OWN WORDS”. (I stopped watching YT shorts completely because of this.) LITERAL POLITICIANS IN MY OWN DAMN COUNTRY are VERY OPEN about KILLING PEOPLE LIKE ME.

and after a while, you just go, “fuck it, I’m done with this,” you know? Like eventually you kind of have to be a little nihilistic with it, unless you want to go completely damn crazy. You gotta realize how fucking ridiculous it all is, to have so much hatred for another human being, that you have literally no other choice.

Even though it’s a personal example, I bet a lot of people have related experiences. (You can share in reblogs if you like)

I figured out today that nearly every time I start working out regularly it is with the express goal of losing weight first, sometimes strength secondary. My brain is literally convinced I am unlovable if I weigh above a certain number. My specific ED tends to flop between over and under eating and I haven't really been able to find a reliable balance. Maybe planning meals? But textures and inconsistent fronts. I don't know, it just kind of felt like a punch to the stomach that I have absorbed so much of my entire family has all said about fat people, about my own technically overweight form. That my self confidence is still reliant on how I look, how well I can hide, how well I can conform to what is expected of me. It's why I've started masking again. My parents told me to stop acting autistic because I am not and I’m not supposed to be weird. I spend my whole day micromanaging myself, pretending to remember things and people that I have barely any memories of. That plus gaslighting via those same parents. It's so fucking tiring trying to be everything everyone wants from you but you. I have not told either of my jobs about my gender and I get misgendered all day. I keep forgetting to take meds. Anxiety keeps telling me everyone is mad at me. The law is against me for a great many things, including the latest ruling by the Supreme Court. Is anyone else just.. tired?

So obviously furries exist but the Tories and the British media trying to whip up a culture war frenzy about “Kids in schools identifying as cats” runs into one major problem…

Kids fucking love to wind adults up, especially those in positions of perceived authority.

Imagine sitting in class, knowing if you say something funny that it could end up on national news because your head teacher is a frothing culture war bigot.

Imagine all the other kids going along with it and backing them up.

As a straigh man, I'm getting really sick of seeing aggressively straight men with homophobic tendencies wearing gay fashion.

For example, the way men have been wearing dangling earrings and pearl necklaces is cool. I love to see my brethren expressing themselves in ways that aren't traditionally masculine. But, I can't stand it when those same painted nails, pearl necklace wearing, dangling earing sporting men, get insulted when you ask if they're queer.

Like, where tf you been buddy? It has not been socially acceptable to wear pearls and dangling earing for straight men in western culture for at least the last 500 years. Unless you're a pirate, it ain't in the culture. So when ppl assume you may be queer because you go around dressing in things traditionally associated with women and queer ppl, don't get offended. If you hate queer ppl, stop appropriating their fashion trends.

Other people have made better, longer posts about it than I have but it cannot be understated just how shitty and weird it is to both do zero pride stuff AND continue going scorched earth on trans women’s blogs.
