Don't Mess With The Pie Hoes
Ned & Olive Snook (Pushing Daisies)
For one of my favourite series of all times, a redraw of ma babies in the episode "Comfort Food" s2ep8.
I'll be honest, I REALLY liked how this turned out. I hate giving self compliments but... it's just really pretty and cute.
I made stickers (n stuff) of this on Redbubble if anyone's interested! Don't Mess With The Pie Hoes (with text) Don't Mess With The Pie Hoes (without text)

Need help with a craft!
Trying to make the hats and vests from comfort food for me and my friend, absolutely any advice on how to do it would be appreciated. I was planning to use foam clay and acrylic paint for the pie but I’m worried it won’t be glossy enough

sleep is soo important to keep your brain running!! try to get at least 9 hours or more every night + sleeping helps with avoiding f00d cravings!
even if you don’t eat the rest of the day, you need to have a protein rich breakfast! that way, you’ll have plenty of energy and your blood sugar will remain low, so you’ll feel satisfied for longer
exercise is a must! every time you feel braing f0g coming, go on a walk!! you have to move your body, whether it's for 10 minutes or an hour (more on that below)
caffeine is your best friend! drink your coffee without sugar, but feel free to add a pinch of cinnamon instead!! if you don't like your coffee black, pour in some milk (either almond, coconut, or oat)
dress warm and comfortable!! being sk1nny means being cold all the time and you don't want to get sick!
don't beat yourself up for e4ting. we all make mistakes and sometimes we have to listen to our bodies and prioritise our wellbeing. just do better next time.

Living him made you feel like you were going insane. He made you feel things no other man had ever made you feel before. Things with him were absolutely intoxicating. He pushed you to things out of your comfort zone.
You broke every rule you had ever had before you met Xu Minghao. The number one rule you broke was, never fall for a client. Stripping wasn’t something you had always planned on doing. It just fell into your lap when you were down on your luck and broke. Since you started taking your clothes off for money you don’t have to worry about things that used to make you lose sleep at night. You don’t have to worry about affording rent or putting food on the table. You’re able to fully support yourself. You’re good at your job and you know how to make men spend their money on you.
Everything you knew was flipped upside down when a beautiful man named Minghao paid for a private room. From the very first hello you knew you were fucked.
What should have been a one time thing turned into him being one of your regulars. After your first show with him he popped up the following week and from there he just kept coming back.
You weren’t the only one who felt a connection. Minghao often told you how fascinating he found you. He loved getting to talk to you. The first few times he visited you kept it very professional. After a while he would spend big money to get you in a private room just so he could talk. He loved learning things about you. He was one of the only people in the building who knew your real name. He didn’t know you as “Ivy” your stage name. It didn’t take long for your visit to turn into more than just talking. The first time you kissed you felt like butterflies were fluttering in your stomach.
Often you would find yourself sitting on his lap topless just making out. You had no problem kissing him and dry humping him until you thought you might go insane but you told him you couldn’t have sex with him at work. You refused to have sex with him if money is involved.
“Do you actually like me daisy girl?” He refused to call you ivy. He says you remind him more of a daisy.
“Minghao,” you sigh with your forehead resting against his.
“Is that a yes?” His hands run up and down your bare sides
“Obviously.” You pull back, giving him a smile.
“Go out with me.” You don’t say anything, you just stare at him. You want to date him so badly but you know your job will always complicate things.
“What happens if I say yes?”
“I wait until you’re off at two and then I take you out to eat.”
“Wouldn’t you prefer we go out one day when I haven't worked. I'm either going to be covered in stage makeup or I’m going to be bare faced.” You didn’t really feel like putting on a different face of makeup to go out tonight.
“Baby I think you’re beautiful anyway you look,” he leans in and presses his lips to yours again. “It doesn’t have to be tonight. When can you be off?”
“I make my own schedule. I don’t have to work any day I don’t want to.” You know Minghao is serious about you and he isn’t just trying to play a game.
He rested his hand on your cheek, “you can tell me no, but I want to ask you something.”
“Ask away,” you smile.
“How about I take you out tonight? We can just get a late night dinner. It will stay fully innocent, but if you enjoy my company you pack a bag and you stay with me for a little while.”
“How long?”
“As long as you want to stay.”
Things between you changed forever that night. You finished up your private room with Minghao at midnight and you agreed for him to pick you up after work. He said goodbye and told you he had a few things to do and after work he wasn’t lying when he said he would be waiting outback for you. You found him sitting in an extremely expensive black sports car.
The first dinner you shared was nice. It was wonderful getting to fully know Minghao outside of the club setting. Your night stayed fully innocent outside of a kiss goodnight outside your front door.
Things with you and Minghao drastically changed that night. You weren’t officially together but it was clear that you were his and he was yours. You took him up on his offer and took a week off of work and just stayed with him.
Your first night in his expensive penthouse was your first time you ever slept with him. Something about Minghao always made you assume he was dominant in bed and you weren’t exactly wrong, but he was much more gentle with you then you thought he would be. You quickly learned that he loves having you lingerie during sex. He bought you so much expensive lace for you to wear. His favorite is crotchless panties. He’s bought you many pairs. He asks for you to wear them whenever you can.
Your nights of the club have started slowly going down. It was rare before that you would work less than six days a week, but since you often started staying at Minghao’s house more often than your own you now only work two days a week.
Since things changed with you and Minghao he still comes in occasionally, but not as frequently as before. You feel guilty now when he pays for a private room. He won’t take no for an answer when you tell him he doesn’t have to pay for your time now.
-
Laying on his bed I’m nothing but a pair of black lace crotchless panties, you spread your legs wide exposing your already drenched pussy. “Touch yourself for me.” Silently you do as you say. “My daisy, what do I have to do to get you to quit your job?” He’s asked you this on multiple occasions but every time you tell him you can’t quit.
You slide your fingers through your wet folds. Rubbing your clit causing a soft moan to leave your lips. He stands at the edge of the bed still dressed in nothing but his dress pants watching you play with yourself.
“I need the money,” it’s not a lie. You’ve given yourself a very comfortable lifestyle by stripping.
“Let me take care of you baby,” he is intently watching you.
“I don’t exchange sex for money.”
“We wouldn’t be exchanging sex for money,” he says quickly.
“What would we be doing?” You pull your hands away from your wet core.
“I would be taking care of you and supporting you, and all I ask is for you to be open to falling in love.” He’s a fool if he doesn’t realize you’re already head over heels in love with him. It's been almost two months since you first got dinner together and you are indeed in love with him.
“Are you going to be my sugar daddy?” You’ve been tempted to try and find one in the past but you weren’t exactly keen on sleeping with an older man for money.
“I’m not an old man paying for your time. I’m thinking more of: I'm your boyfriend and I pay for you.”
“My boyfriend?” You arch your eyebrow at him.
“Do you not want something more with me than this game we seem to be playing?” You’re tired of whatever this is. You want to openly be able to love him.
“You better not break my heart.”
“I would never.” He unbuckles his pants and removes them and boxers leaving him standing at the foot of his bed fully naked.
“How are you going to explain to people your girlfriend is a slut?” You need to ask him. He needs to be prepared for what people will say about him being with you.
“Don’t call yourself that,” he says flatly. “You aren’t a slut, and I never want to hear you say that again.”
“What am I then?” He crawls over you. He pins your hands above your head.
“My daisy. You’re my daisy.” If you weren’t in love, you would be now. You’re speechless and don’t even know how to respond to him.
“I like the sound of that,” you whisper, leaning up.
He pulls away from you and sits back with his back against his expensive headboard. “Come here baby.”
You crawl over to him. Sitting on his thighs you start to pump his already hard dick. His lips slightly part as he inhaled little breaths. You've learned all the ways to make him fall apart. Focusing on the sensitive head that is already leaking precum. His hand massages your breast. He earns a moan when he tweaks your nipple.
“Have I told you I love you today?” he asked, finally speaking.
“I think so,” you can’t help but smile.
You continue pumping his length as his hands travel your body. One rest on your throat. He slowly applies pressure as you close your eyes. “I don’t want to share you with anyone else anymore.” Your eyes flutter open and you can tell how serious he is. “I want you to just be my daisy. Let me take care of you fully.” His hand still lingers on your throat, but no longer applying pressure.
“You’re gonna get bored of me. Men normally like the idea of me, but find me hard to love.” You last few relationships were disasters. Only one of them fully knew about your job, and the amount of time you would get into fights and he would call you a slut and throw your career in your face.
“You are not hard to love. I love you.” You often question what you did to deserve a man like Xu Minghao to love you.
“I love you too,” it’s rare you repeat those words back to him. You’re helplessly in love with him, but you still can’t be scare you’re going to get hurt. You’ve broke all your rules for him. Falling for him made you feel like you were going crazy, but that’s maybe how love is supposed to feel.
Without saying anything else you lift your hips. He realizes what you’re doing and helps slide his cock towards your welcoming pussy. Slowly you slide down his length. His hand still rests on your throat applying pressure every so often. One of your hands hold his jaw, keeping his looking right at you. You’re not normally rough with him, but you’re lost in a haze of desire.
“I only ever want to fuck you,” your moans are high pitched. “I don’t want anyone else.”
“I don’t want anyone to ever touch you,” his hand dips down between you and starts playing with your clit while you ride him. “I’m going to take care of you and I’m going to fuck you so good you can’t think straight.” You love when he gets like this.
“I’m so wet for you-“ you ride him like your life depends on it. His hand never leaves your throat continuously applying pressure.
Leaning back your hands rest on his thighs behind you. Moving your hips at a quick pace.
“Fuck-“ you moan.
“Your pussy was made for me,” he moans.
“Please kiss me,” you beg. Silently he accepts your plea. He pulls you closer to him by your throat. He releases his hold as your lips crash together.
“I wanna cum,” you whine with your lips ghosting his.
“Cum baby.”
Your orgasm washes over you with a blinding hot heat. Closing your eyes you lean forward and stop moving your hips. Minghao holds your hips and helps you continue to ride him while he chases his own high.
“Fuck-“ he moans as he paints your walls white. He doesn't think he has ever came that much in his life. If you weren’t on birth control he would be worried about getting you pregnant.
Pulling back slowly you sit up with him still snugly inside of you. The blissed expression on his face is absolutely beautiful. “I’ll quit stripping, but you have to promise me that you won’t break my heart.”
The smile that tugs at his lips makes your heart instantly swell. “I won’t ever break your heart.”
The two things you have learned about being in love is that sometimes you just have to trust the person who is in love with you. If you love someone sometimes it’s okay to break all your own rules.

You, Me and Baby
Young Love Masterlist Summary: Louis and YN discover they’re going to have a baby, but YN’s parents are far from pleased.
warning: highly sensitive topics, positive pregnancy test, pregnancy, mentions of abortion, emotional abuse, swearing, arguing, shouting
The bright shining sun teased her through the window as she waited patiently for the time to be up. YN’s heart thumped against her chest, as her eyes stared at the plastic stick sat on her bedside table.
Her period was 7 days late, and as much as she blamed hormones, stress and “it’ll come tomorrow”, YN knew she needed to take a pregnancy test just to rule out one of the main reasons her period still hadn’t made an appearance.
YN felt her chest take a deep breath as she prepared herself to turn over the test, the weight felt heavy on her shoulders. She debated if she should have told Louis but after arguing with herself, she decided she to do it by herself.
The shaky fingers reached for the white plastic that determined her future. She closed her eyes as she turned it over. Waiting for her breath to calm, she opened her eyes with force and there sat the answer.
Two pink lines.
YN feels her chest tighten as her heart beats against hit with a thud. Of course she had considered the possibility of her being pregnant but part of her believed her period was just late.
She wasn’t sure how long she had been staring at the two lines, her phone had been pinging next to her. She knew it was Louis and her friends. They had planned to hang out that afternoon. Knowing they were probably waiting for her, she placed the test and box in her bedroom bin and decided she would hide it later on before her parents got home.
---
YN tried to put a smile on her face throughout the afternoon as they all went to grab some lunch, before heading over to Ella’s house. But Louis knew YN better than she realised, he noticed how much quieter she was. He saw when she pushed the food around her plate, hardly eating anything. He knew she was faking her smile as she chatted to Ella and Hannah from across the table. Louis quickly made up an excuse that he needed to go home and help with his sisters, YN giving him a grateful smile knowing it was her way out of the gathering too,
Trying to find a quiet moment to tell Louis, was very hard to come by in the Tomlinson house. YN loved spending time at Louis, the chaos and the love was enough to warm her heart. She loved that although Louis was seventeen, he would still play the childish games with his sisters and watching as he helped Phoebe and Daisy with their building blocks, she couldn’t help but think that the baby she was currently carrying inside her may be luckiest little one to have such a loving father.
YN tried to pluck up the courage, knowing she had to tell Louis soon because she could feel it threaten to spill at any moment. “Lou…can we-“.
“Louis..YN…come and have a look at our dance show!”. Lottie ran into the lounge, interrupting the teenagers. But how could they say no.
Time was nearing where YN had to leave to go back home. She still hadn’t got the chance to tell Louis but the longer it was going on, the harder it was to start the conversation.
The sound of knocking could be heard from the living area but neither thought anything of it as Jay went to answer it.
“Where is he? Did you know about this?”. The sound of her father’s voice bellowing caught YN’s ears.
Without thought Louis and YN went into the hallway to see what the shouting was about. “Carl…if you’ll calm down…whatever is going on we can talk about this”. Jay’s motherly voice was a comfort to YN when she could see the anger covering her father’s face.
“Me calm down? I’m not fucking calming down! Do you know how angry me and Emma are right now? I’ll tell you how angry…fucking furious!”. Carl’s voice and anger continued to escalate.
YN stood slightly behind Louis, embarrassed at the show her father was putting on right now. “Dad! Please!”. She gulped down the nerves, knowing how silly she had been leaving the pregnancy test in clear view.
His angry eyes snapped to see YN and Louis stood there. “You!” He pointed at Louis, trying to take a step forward only for Jay to place her arm to stop him. “You…you’ve ruined our lives! You-”. Louis protectively stood in front of YN, have stood behind him, their hands still secured in each others.
Jay had been calm since the moment Carl had began shouting but when it came to her children, she would not tolerate it. “Excuse me! You don’t talk to anyone like that…especially my son! That’s my son you’re talking to and I will not have it!”.
Carl let out a sarcastic breath with a fake chuckle. “Well I hate to break it to you darling but your precious little son has got my daughter pregnant!”.
YN could feel Louis tense as her father revealed what she had been hiding. She knew this was the moment that she was left just her and the little baby they had created. She could feel the tears burn her eyes, her heart thumped deep in her body.
“I’m sorry”. YN whispered for Louis to hear as she rested her head against his tense back. He remained still in his spot, silent as the words sunk in but his fingers rubbing her hand was the tiny bit of reassurance she needed in that moment.
“You are a vile and disgusting man!”. Jay spoke up, breaking the silence that surrounded the four of them. “You come to my house…shout, swear and scream when I have four young children sleeping upstairs…you threaten my son and humiliate your own daughter…you should be ashamed of yourself!”.
Louis and YN still stood in the exact same spot, watching the scene in front of them unfold. YN had been hurt by her parents for as long as she could remember but the next few words her father spoke stung.
“I’m ashamed that she is my daughter and got knocked up at seventeen…she’s humiliated us!”. His voice was full of hatred and the look of disgust on his face said a million words. “You get rid of that baby or you’re out on the streets!”.
“Get out of my house now before I call the police!”. Jay’s motherly instincts when into overdrive. “You don’t deserve a daughter like YN…and don’t come near my son and YN again!”. Jay slammed the front door shut, before turning to look at Louis and YN. “Cup of tea anyone?”.
---
With cups of tea in each of their hands, the three of them sat in the lounge area. YN couldn’t think properly at the moment. From finding out she was pregnant this morning, to not having a home anymore was a lot to process.
“I’m really sorry you had to find out that way”. YN didn’t look up from her hands that held the beige mug. “I’ve tried to find a way all day to tell you”.
“You don’t have to be sorry babe, I’m just shocked…I wasn’t expecting it”. Louis gently spoke from next to her. Jay listened from her seat, feeling so proud at how mature her son was being and it was in that moment that she knew she had raised him well. “We’re in this together, yeah?”.
YN couldn’t find the words but a small nodded was all she could manage as she looked up at Louis.
“YN?”. Her eyes followed Jay’s voice. “You have a home here and I’m with you both every step of the way…you’re part of this family!”.

party hats & kitty cats
pairing: non-idol!lee know x fem!reader
genre: fluff. established relationship au.
warnings: food. one-off line about having kids in the future. discussion of expanding the family via adopting a new cat.
word count: 1.3k~
daisy's notes: oh to adopt a cat w lino....
Minho shifted next to you, causing you to lift your head off of his shoulder. “Hold on,” he said, voice soft as could be so as to not disturb you (or, more likely, the cats asleep around you). “Keep your head held up.”
Which was what prompted you to open your eyes right as a string fell snugly against the underside of your chin. Minho pushed it back so it would sit more comfortably, continuing to manipulate the party hat on your head until it looked right. That was when you realized he was wearing one, too.
“What?”
You’d been drifting off a little too much despite the carnage going on the screen (the powers of a bad horror movie, for sure), halfway to dreamland when he moved. The first time, you hadn’t had to move too much—assuming that Minho had just been reaching for his drink. The second time, you thought he’d been putting it back. And now he was just watching you with this playful look in his eyes, proud at his own silly little joke.
“Pretty,” he mused aloud. Then he leaned forward, pressing a quick kiss against your lips before getting up for real this time. The action earned a curious ‘mrrp?’ from Doongie, who had been sleeping at your feet until now, and Minho looked at him. “Doong-doong-ah, just stay there.”
Doongie promptly hopped down off of the couch to follow him instead, cat DNA requiring that he not follow orders from anyone but himself. You just relaxed against the couch, reaching a hand up to pet Soonie where he’d curled up to sleep. He raised his head lazily, purring once you began to scratch underneath his chin. Dori had popped his head up from where he’d been batting around a little mouse toy, watching Minho carefully as he moved about the kitchen with Doongie at his heels. You just found yourself smiling at the scene. Sometimes you joked that Minho fell in love with you once you met his cats and began to adore them almost as much as he does, but sometimes you truly think this relationship wouldn’t have lasted this long if you weren’t all-in on moving in with him and the three cats. You turned your attention back to Soonie for barely a second before you heard the click of a lighter.
And then a minute later, Minho began to sing to you. He made his way over, holding a small cake that was enough for the two of you. Doongie followed after him as he came back to you, all too curious and needing to know exactly what was going on in his home without him knowing ahead of time. Minho carefully lowered himself onto the couch next to you, holding up the cake for you.
“Did you make this?” You asked once he stopped singing.
He shook his head. “I was going to,” he said. “But I decided to focus on cooking dinner instead.”
Good, you thought to yourself. The dinner Minho had cooked for you was a little elaborate. The idea of him making you a cake and dinner, especially when the cake was decorated a little extravagantly, would have been too much. He’d pouted at you when you went the extra mile on his birthday considering how much you’d been working lately, gently chastising you when you were left exhausted after everything.
“I don’t need anything that special,” he’d told you while the two of you were laying in bed, his arms wrapped around you. “Your health is more important to me.”
You turned a little to look at him over your shoulder. “You didn’t like it…?”
“I loved it,” he kissed the side of your shoulder. “I always love the things you do for me. But…” His fingers grazed against the skin, exposed from where your shirt has ridden up. “I don’t want you to sacrifice your wellbeing for me. Okay?”
You had made him promise to do the same, something he’d easily done and sealed with a soft kiss before snuggling in for the night. Now he sat before you, the candlelight illuminating his face more than the television screen did.
“Make a wish already,” he’d lightly teased. “You can stare at me later.”
With a roll of your eyes, you turned your attention to the lit candles. For a moment, you debated on what to wish for before settling on something achievable, hopefully. You shut your eyes, blowing out the candles before the smell of smoke immediately greeted you. When you opened your eyes, Minho had reached for one of the forks he’d casually left on the coffee table earlier. You’d assumed at the time that he simply brought too many and would return it to its drawer later, but of course he was a step ahead of you.
“So?” He pushed the fork into the cake, apparently intent on feeding you the first bite before he’d pass the fork to you. He held it up. “What did you wish for?”
“I thought telling you meant it wouldn’t come true?” You teased before closing your lips around the fork, sweet vanilla buttercream bursting over your taste buds as you enjoyed the first bite of your cake. This had to be the same bakery you ordered his birthday cake from last year. Their vanilla buttercream had a certain quality to it that you could never put your finger on (Felix would know, though: he’d complimented it at Minho’s party).
“Is it something I can do?” He asked. When you played up your debate before nodding, he rolled his eyes, scooping up another bite of cake for you. “Then tell me.”
“I was thinking…” You went to take the fork, only for Minho to pull it away from you. A hostage situation, apparently. Unfair. “We could maybe expand the family a little?”
He gave you the most confused look in response. “You said you didn’t want to have kids until later on—”
“Not kids,” you said. “Maybe… We could get another kitten?”
Minho nodded along to the question, thinking it over. He pushed the fork back toward you, purposefully not letting go. You decided to oblige once more as you ate the bite of cake. “We’d have to see about fostering first,” he said, already figuring out the reality of adopting a new kitten when you already had three rambunctious cats around. “Find a space that the others can’t get to while we introduce them to each other…”
Finally victorious in stealing the fork from him, you pushed it through the cake and held out a bite to him. The two of you had shared enough at this point anyway. “So we’ll look into it?”
He nodded. “I think we could. It’ll mean more work looking after them, but I think we could handle it.” He looked at Soonie, reaching up to scratch him between the ears. “Although if the cats don’t respond well, I don’t know if we could go through with it…” He hummed to himself for a moment, thinking harder about it. “Maybe a girl? It doesn’t matter either way, but maybe it’d be nice to have a girl cat around. We’d have to find one spayed or get her spayed when she’s older—”
“Minho.”
He immediately turned back to look at you, realizing how lost he’d grown in kitten adoption thoughts. His gaze flickered back to the fork in front of him, and he smiled at you for a minute before leaning forward to accept the bite. “Thank you,” he said after swallowing. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be,” you giggled. “It’s cute that you care so much.”
He lowered the cake he’d been balancing on one hand, carefully leaning over it so that he could kiss you. When he drew back, his eyes were all twinkly, so obviously giddy over the prospect of a new cat. Or maybe that was just the way Minho looked when he looked at you. His friends told you once that Minho adored you completely, and it was evident when they saw the way he looked at you.
“Happy birthday,” he said for the final time that night. “I love you so much.”

Let Me Serve You, Angel
Pairing: Frat!Rafe Cameron x Reader
Warnings: N/A
Pronouns: She/Her
Word Count: 0.6K
Summary: Rafe has a lot of rules when it comes to being his girlfriend. Here are some more.
Masterlist
Y/N is getting ready to go to the club with Daisy and a few friends. She walks over to Rafe lying on the bed to kiss him goodbye. “Daisy is going to be here in a minute. I’m going to wait downstairs. You can stay in bed though Rafe,” she orders, kissing him on the lips. He is too tired to argue about going down with her, “Okay, be safe. Rule Number Nine?” She pauses at the door and pulls out her phone to check. Her phone shows that she is sharing her location and she nods. “Yep, the other girls and you can see it. We aren’t planning on staying out too late, so I should be back by one at the latest,” she informs him. He sits up from the bed to watch her leave, “Sounds good, Angel. I love you.” She returns his sentiment and goes out the door.
———
Rule Number Seven is one of Y/N’s least favourite rules because Rafe never lets her return the favour. Rule Number Seven: Let me serve you, Angel. It’s a sweet gesture, but Y/N also wants to help pay for dates or hold his bags when he buys things. By now, she’s realized that acts of service are one of Rafe’s main love languages and he always wants to show her his love, so she has gotten used to letting him do his thing. She also learnt that he likes to receive physical touch and that’s how she tries to make it up to him.
“Hey, I’m going to order some pasta from Ronaldo’s. Do you want anything?” she asks, walking into his room and placing her clutch on his desk. She goes to take off her jacket, but he is quick to get off his bed and help her take it off. Her attempts to get into something more comfortable stop because she knows what comes after. He kneels on the ground and unbuckles her heels. His mouth finds its place on her inner calf as he pulls off her left shoe. He repeats the same ritual on her right foot. He is so focused on helping her get undressed that he forgot she asked him a question.
“Rafe, do you want something to eat?” she tries again. He looks up from putting her shoes away, “Yeah, can you get me the meat lovers pizza and some garlic bread, please? And we should get the guys some stuff too. Here, order it from my phone.” He hands her his phone as he stands up. She nods her head, taking it without a fight because she can see how tired he is. Extra cuddles for him tonight. She gives him the kiss she knows he has been waiting for since she got back and brings him over to the bed so they can tell each other about their day while they wait for the food.
———
Even though it is twelve thirty in the morning. Most of the frat brothers are found around the dining room table, eating everything the couple ordered. Y/N finished her pasta a while ago and she had three garlic breads and five chicken wings already. But her stomach is still demanding more. Her eyes fall on Rafe’s pizza which he is still working through. She wants to ask for some, yet she feels self-conscious about asking for more when she’s already eaten so much. Rafe catches where her eyeline is and knows what is wrong. He leans closer to her, “Eight.” She looks at him in understanding and reaches over to take a slice of his pizza. The slice is gone almost as fast as it took her to grab it. “Are you satisfied?” he whispers to her again, pushing his last slice toward her. She shakes her head and gives him a kiss on the cheek, “I’m good, Rafe. Thank you.” Eat as much as she wants in front of him and don’t be embarrassed about it is Rule Number Eight.

i kinda don’t get people who characterize maccready as like… secretly generous, or having a heart of gold or anything. like don’t get me wrong i don’t think he’s downright malicious or anything, but the dude is absolutely a selfish jerk once you get past the charming facade. that’s the part that’s compelling!
like, he’s nice enough and open enough with the player once you get high enough affinity with him, but his reactions to player actions still point to him being a jerk overall. the sosu just happens to be in His Circle of people he can be vulnerable with. that includes you, his son, and maybe daisy. everyone else can kick rocks, the same way it was in little lamplight
he HAD to grow up with that kind of “us vs the world, every man for himself” mentality in the capitol wasteland. doing so otherwise gets you killed or taken advantage of, which is just protracted death anyways. having grown up in a place where slavers run rampant, people are all pushing each other further down just to boost themselves up and live one more day, and it’s literally impossible to make renewable food sources because the ground is so poisoned i genuinely don’t blame him for ending up a little tight fisted. the fact that he was the mayor of little lamplight just meant that he ended up being able to accept a few people as His To Protect instead of being a total lone wolf.
the way he reacts to the players open generosity isn’t just for show, he Actually Dislikes when you give stuff away without expecting anything in return. you might need that thing and now its just gone!! that person might see you as a sucker! you give an inch and they’ll take a mile! and it makes sense for his character to be like that considering everything. i don’t get why people want to change that into him just being kind of tsundere.
i understand that having your babygirl blorbo comfort character be a canonical asshole in ways that aren’t just kinda charming can be offputting, but like…. the way he treats the sosu is a very notable exception to the rest of his life & it’s a much more interesting dynamic imo. especially if you’re playing a goody two shoes martyr. but that’s just me
#robert joseph maccready#i also have come to the realization that him disliking when you give austin the cure in v88 is in character#he doesn’t know shit about how medicine works#he just sees some magical cure being used on a random sheltered vault kid who got himself into this mess anyways#meanwhile *his son* is suffering#i also think his disdain towards being generous is because of the ‘if i can’t have it no one can’ mentality#similar to how astarion acts in bg3#maccready didn’t have any help as a kid. he went through it all by himself. he had to suffer alone#seeing someone get treated with kindness after spending his whole life getting beat down#to the point where he just convinced himself that good people were made up entirely#it’s like a slap to the face#‘you mean this existed the whole time? people like YOU have been out here the whole time? and i was just unlucky?’ etc#idk i took two benadryls and now im cooking#not art

Hiii love
So, like, can you write where the reader is pregnant with a toxic!rafe child, and she runs away scared for her unborn child, and rafe finds them a few months after they baby is born. If you're not comfortable, I completely understand love
(basically Reader was a kook but then ran away from Rafe, becoming a pouge. Kiara only knows she’s there bc they went to school together.)
You sit in the small living room thinking to yourself. Were you wrong for running away? I mean you were young..
You then hear baby cries from the nursery. You rush to the room and pick up the crying baby. You sit in the rocking chair next to it and start humming lullabies. As the baby fell into slumber you hear a knock at the door. You remembered that you had called Kiara to babysit for a while , while you go grocery shopping. You set the baby down into the crib and quickly got dress. You button your blue striped white blouse and grab your bag.
You open the door, to see your best friend. “Hey girl.” She said hugging you. You returned the hug. “Well she’s asleep and y’know the rest.” I smiled at her. She steps in the house as you exited. “Hey!” She shouts you look back at the door frame to see a baseball hat being thrown at you. “Be careful!” She says. “ I will.” I smiled at her once again. You get into your old red Cadillac and start driving.
You park your car on the side of your door. You see a familiar car but you shrug it off. As you walk into the market you see missing papers stabled onto the walls. You open the door and grab a basket and start looking in the food isles.
You get to baby food isle and look through the food choices. You then hear foot steps behind you. “Y/n?” I hear a voice. I look at the person.
topper…
You swallow hard. You step back “y-you’re alive?” “Man, your parents have been worried and Rafe..”you quickly run out to check out. You were lucky that the cashier was fast. You pay while feeling a shorten of breath and felt tear swell up in your eyes.
You throw the grocery in the back of the seat and start driving. The familiar car starts to follow you. Topper..
Making a sharp turn you lose him. You quickly get back onto the road back to home. Carrying the groceries into the kitchen you felt a liquid fill up in your mouth. Running to the bathroom and locking the door, throwing up. Kiara was worried trying to unlock the door. “I’m fine!” You yelled out. “You sure?!” No response. A few bangs on the door made you reply. “Well I have to get going, my parents are going to be mad at my ass if I’m not home.” “Okay..” you replied. Hearing the door close, you brush your teeth and exited the bathroom to check your baby. You see she’s fine and start unpacking the food.
Later on, night came in and was peaceful. You fed daisy and played and bit , after a while it was her bedtime. You laid her to sleep and started to clean. Sitting down with a cup of tea and relaxing. You hear a knock on the door. You stood up and had seen sprinkles of rain. Opening the door you see a tall figure. Wearing a blue flannel and combat boots, but had a buzz cut. “Y/n!” He said hugging me tightly pushing me further into the house.
“Where have you been.” He said kissing my forehead. I hold onto his wrists. “Rafe..” I whispered to myself. I knock out of it and push him away. “No… no..” a tear fell down my cheek. “Honey, I’ve gotten better, please come back.” He has his hands up in defense. I sit down on the couch. “I’m sorry!” I cried into my knees. “You shouldn’t be sorry, I mean there has to be some kind of reason why you left.” He say sitting on the couch.
“I-i was pregnant…” I sobbed. His face turns white. “You were pregnant with my child?” “Yes, and I’m sorry! I just didn’t want to ruin your life! I mean you have drugs and went out to parties!” I sniffled. “It’s not your fault.. I should be the one apologizing, I should’ve been when you needed me than hanging out with other people.” He expressed. I look up at him with red puffy eyes.
“how did you find me?” You asked. “Topper told me what happened at the market and followed you.” He chuckles.
You wanted a father for your child, and you wanted the actual father. But I wouldn’t have hurt to start seeing someone else. But there a change in his heart. The way he loved you. He knew that the past tense him was not responsible.
So you gave him a chance.
“Can I see them?” He asks lifting my chin up. “Her.” I say. I grab his hand and walked to the nursery. To see a beautiful babygirl. “What’s her name?” “Daisy.”
“you’re favorite flowers.” He smiled.
Hope that was what you were thinking! Please y’all send in more requests don’t be shy!

you keep watching my eyes
Merlin/Arthur Pendragon. 1.100 words. General Audiences. AO3.
…….
"Come on, attack me as if you mean it."
Merlin adjusts his footing into a defensive posture, expecting his taunt to rise something in Arthur. It does. Apart from his words, his eyes are heavy on Arthur’s, his lips red and smug, his hands clenching and unclenching, ready to cast.
A soft breeze ruffles his hair. Arthur swings his sword.
Their weapons clash with a piercing sound, the force of it sends a thrill down Arthur’s arms. He laughs with exhilaration and swings again.
Little are the times when they can escape from their duties. It happened more often when Merlin was his servant, but since Arthur named him court sorcerer they never seem to have time for themselves, even though they still spend most of their days together.
That's why Arthur decided to tell Merlin to go to the stables that morning, and without explanation, he threw him the reins of his horse.
Merlin didn't complain, so he took it as a win.
The travel through the forest was surprisingly swift and uneventful. The gallop of the horses blended with the singing of birds above them, and blooming flowers announced the coming of spring. In the middle of all that nature, Arthur watched Merlin admire the landscape, and longed.
They arrived at a clearing covered in daisies, ate some of the food Arthur had brought and talked about the latest court gossip they knew. Then, when the silence grew too comfortable, Arthur had the marvellous idea of duelling, him with his sword and Merlin with his magic. The idea turned out not to be so marvellous, because he is, as expected, losing.
Merlin fends off every single one of his blows with magic. Arthur has never had more fun sparring.
“Is that all you’ve got?” Merlin taunts him, and, all right, he’d have more fun if Merlin didn’t spend half of the time mocking him.
"I'm trying here," Arthur does not whine, because kings don't whine.
"What? Is this too hard for the best warrior of Albion?"
Arthur gives him a smirk,
"You think I'm a good warrior?"
Merlin rolls his eyes and attacks again with the one-handed staff he had conjured. His eyes shine golden, like a sunset but better. Arthur gets a good few hits, trying to get closer to him.
Arthur swings to his right, leaving his left open, and Merlin hits him with a beam of magic that sends him to the ground, landing on a bunch of daisies.
"You keep watching my eyes," Merlin points as he offers him a hand, "which is a good way of getting yourself killed."
Arthur takes the hand and gets up. He is closer to Merlin than he intended, but neither steps away. There, face to face, breathing the same air, Arthur pretends to be calm and with a grin says,
"What? Trying to kill me often?"
Merlin looks at him with something resembling fondness, but that might be exasperation. Then he puts his hand on Arthur's shoulder and gently pushes him, creating a distance between them Arthur never wants to be there.
"One last time?" Merlin asks. Arthur nods and grabs his sword from the ground.
He swings first, to Merlin's right, the sword bouncing off a golden magic shield. Merlin moves his hand down, and magic forms the vague shape of a sword that looks less solid than Arthur knows it is.
Merlin is not holding his weapon; it hovers in the air above his hand, and though it gives him agility and speed, it lacks firmness. Arthur strikes it, stepping towards Merlin, who steps back. Merlin swings, meeting Arthur's sword once, twice. He steps back again and slowly circles Arthur. He is careful to fully face Merlin at all times, though that is something he doesn’t need much practice on.
It’s easy to lose yourself in the slow dance that is fighting. Paying attention to every little one of your opponent's movements, and pointedly not looking at his eyes. Merlin raises his sword, and Arthur meets him there. Then, he lowers them both with a swift movement, and takes advantage of the lack of obstacles between them to tackle Merlin with his shoulder.
Because that is something Merlin has not yet learned. Your weapon is only an extension of yourself, and you must fight like you dance: with your whole body.
He lands on top of Merlin with a thud, and grinning, he says,
"I think I win."
Just after he speaks he realises how breathy his voice is, how his panting is less controlled than he thought it was. He notices how Merlin's chest moves against his own.
He rolls off him before their closeness makes him do something stupid, because this is something he has yet not learned: He can’t just tackle Merlin and expect to feel normal when they touch. He settles on his back, grass tickling his neck and forearms.
"You win," Merlin breathes. He then gets himself comfortable on the ground and closes his eyes.
Sunlight filters through the tree leaves and paints Merlin with light, and Arthur wants to trace every inch of his face with his fingertips. The curve of his lips, his nose, his cheekbones. He wishes he could have the peace to see him like this every day, forever.
"I can feel you watching me," Merlin whispers.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he whispers back.
Merlin's lips stretch into a smile. He turns his face towards Arthur and opens his eyes. Arthur does not have the strength to look away.
Merlin props himself on an elbow, and looking down at Arthur, haloed by the afternoon light, says,
"Hi."
"Hi," Arthur answers, unsure how to react and what to do as Merlin brings a hand to his cheek, and, ever so slowly, leans down.
When their lips touch, it’s like the sun meeting the horizon. Arthur never wants to let go. He wraps his arms around Merlin, who climbs onto his lap without breaking the kiss.
Arthur lets his hands travel to Merlin's neck, then lower to whatever warmth they can find. He can feel one of Merlin’s hands on his chest, where his heart threatens to escape from his ribcage.
"I think I win, now," Merlin murmurs against his lips.
Arthur can only manage a "hm?", his mind fuzzy.
"I'm on top of you. I win."
Arthur huffs.
"That's cheating."
"According to who?" He can feel Merlin's smile against his.
"Me." He runs his fingers over Merlin's cheek, his chin, his jaw. It feels better than he would have ever imagined. "Now stop talking."

Wild For You
Pairing: Joel Miller x reader (Biker!Joel AU)
Word Count: 1,359
Summary: A new coworker at the bar treats you poorly and it really ruins your day but thankfully you have your amazing man to come home to and he makes everything better.
Author’s Note: Just some more of our favorite soft Biker 😍I missed him this week and since it’s Monday I really just want to plant myself in this man’s lap and never leave! Thank you all so much for reading! Much love always! ❤️❤️❤️ Both dividers by the lovely @firefly-graphics Thanks a bunch Daisy🥰
Warnings: he’s super soft, sweet, and protective, but very flirty and a little bossy (in the best way) and super s-e-x-y and there’s some light angst and i-mp-li-e-d s-e-x-y time
Joel Miller Masterlist
“Oh darlin’,” Joel croons. “Come ‘ere.”
You fall into his strong arms, snuggling into his lap and clutching the front of his shirt. You let out a sniffle as hot tears roll down your cheeks, soaking the material.
“Maybe I’m overreacting?” you question quietly, nuzzling against his chest. “I don’t know what I could have done to make him…”
“No you’re not,” he says abruptly, cutting you off. “Nothin’ you could have done makes what that asshole said to you ok. No one talks to you like that.”
At his gruff response you look up into his eyes now hardened with fierce determination. His large thumb swipes across your wet cheeks, calloused skin gentle and soothing.
Emotion fills his voice as he growls, “he sounds like a real shithead and if he ever so much as looks at you in a way you don’t like again I’m goin’ to end him.”
“End him?” you say as a small smile pulls at the corner of your mouth.
“Yeah,” he scoffs, taken aback by your slight amusement. “I’ll fuckin’ kill him.”
“I will never understand how you can be so scary and so cuddly at the same time,” you sigh as you lay your head along his shoulder.
He gently rubs your back as he tugs you closer.
“Did you just call me cuddly darlin’?”
“I did,” you whisper. “So warm and cuddly and strong.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever been called cuddly in my entire life,” he chuckles.
“Mm,” you hum, kissing his neck. “You better only be cuddly for me.”
“Only you sunshine,” he murmurs before kissing the top of your head.
You stay like that for a while. Just basking in his warmth and comfort. So thankful you have him to come home to after an awful day.
Suddenly your stomach growls.
“Hungry darlin’?” he laughs, his body lightly shaking with the action.
“I guess so,” you mumble into his shirt, unwilling to leave his arms.
“You need to eat,” he says firmly, his fingers pressing under your chin until you’re looking up at him.
“So bossy!” you state as you sit up.
He grins wickedly. “You love when I’m bossy.”
You chew your bottom lip then lower your lashes. “I do, especially when you have me pinned…”
“Don’t distract me,” he warns. “I need to feed you first then we can play.”
Your face brightens as an idea comes to you.
“Can we make cookies?” you ask. “That’s food.”
“As much as I love your baking cookies aren’t dinner.”
You stand and glare at him, crossing your arms over your chest.
“Fine,” you pout. “I’d rather have cookies though.”
“Me too,” he says and quickly follows it with, “but dinner first.”
You frown. “But they’re for your eating pleasure,” you push, raising your brows.
“I’d rather eat you for pleasure,” he simpers. “But…”
You shiver at his words despite your discontent.
“I KNOW! I know” you huff. “But dinner first,” you mock with some sass.
You saunter into the kitchen, sure to put some extra sway behind your hips.
“Bossy, bossy…” you now mutter as you bend over to get a pot from the lower cabinet.
“I heard that darlin’,” he smiles as he follows you into the kitchen, his gaze glued to your ass.
You turn to face him when you feel the heat of him at your back. His eyes are soft as he traces the outline of your jaw.
“It’s been a long day. I want you to eat something good and then we can have cookies and then I’ll boss you around some more…”
His words trail off as he dips his head and steals your lips in a kiss that makes you forget about everything but him. When he pulls away your eyes remain closed and you cling to him, your fingers fisted into his shirt.
“Ok,” you breathe out. “Dinner first.”
“I’m takin’ you to work today,” he say decisively as he watches you get ready the next afternoon.
He’s sitting up in your bed, naked except for the sheet covering his lower half, and leaning against the bed frame with one arm resting behind his head.
You turn to meet his eyes, your gaze running down over his bare chest, lingering on his tattoos before falling to what’s beneath the covers.
“Are you going to be bossy like this all the time now?”
Your question has him smirking. “Well we are in the bedroom.”
“I should call out,” you muse, still staring at him.
He shifts his legs invitingly and pats the bed.
“Joel,” you warn but your lips twitch with a smile.
“Darlin’,” he counters, mischief dancing in his warm brown eyes.
You deflate somewhat as the realization of the reality of the situation hits you. “I can’t avoid this asshole forever. I like my job. He’s not going to ruin it for me.”
Your words seems to spark him into action and he nods grimly. “I’m gonna get dressed while you finish getting ready then we’ll take my bike.”
When you pull up to the bar Joel helps you off his bike, his hand wrapped tightly around yours as he leads you toward the door.
“I feel bad you’re going to sit here and babysit me all night,” you say quietly, stopping and pulling him to the side.
“Sweetheart,” he whispers, tenderly pressing his palm to your cheek. “It’s fine. I’m fine. I feel much better being here with you and making sure you’re ok and it’s not babysitting…more I’m like your bodyguard.”
He smiles smugly and you lean into his touch, some of the tension easing slightly when he pulls you close and tucks you into his chest.
“My hot and sexy bodyguard boyfriend,” you giggle. “Who’s also seriously cuddly.”
He mumbles something incoherent and grumpy causing you to laugh, the sound lightening his mood as he walks you into the bar.
He greets Dan and Jade, before he sits on one of the stools and adjusts his leather jacket and scans the room.
Your friend Jade rushes over and hugs you. “How are you?” she asks.
“Doing better. I just hope it’s a good night.”
Jade nods then her eyes shift to Joel. “With Joel here everything will be fine,” she says with an encouraging look. “And honestly, if Jack’s stupid enough to run his mouth again you’re taking it to the boss and Dan and I will back you up! That is…if Joel doesn’t kill him first.”
Jade grins at the thought.
You smile at your boyfriend then give your friend a thankful squeeze.
“I’m just going to the back room to put my things away,” you inform Joel.
He reaches for your hand over the bar, giving it a gentle squeeze. “Ok darlin’,” he answers quietly.
As you start to walk off you see Jack coming around the bar and your shoulders instantly tense. With a swift glance at Joel you see his jaw tick, his teeth grinding as he zeroes in on the source of your dismay.
Thankfully, Jack gets hailed by a waiting customer and you can slip by him without any interaction.
Once you’re in the back room you let out a deep exhale and grab a bottle of water. The sound of the door creaking open draws your attention and you swing wide eyes in that direction.
At the sight of Joel you visibly relax but he can still see the tension riding your shoulders.
“I’m dallying,” you admit, “but I’m going to go out there and do my job and Jack can fuck off!”
“That’s my girl,” he winks.
Joel gives you an affectionate smile that turns naughty as he closes the door behind him and locks it.
“What are you doing?” you ask as he stalks toward you.
Your breathing is shallow as he takes you by the hips and walks you back into the lockers.
“Helping you relax,” he murmurs against your mouth as his fingers trail across your stomach before sliding into the waistband of your leggings.
You suck in a breath, his name a whispered plea on your parted lips.
“Remember to be quiet darlin’.”

”Hi,” a voice says, much closer than he expects. Davey turns to find a woman at his elbow—pretty, with long, tawny hair and big brown eyes—and her smile is sweet and a little shy. “I’m Julia.”
”Uh, hi,” Davey replies, a little confused.
His first thought is that she needs help flagging down the bartender; Davey’s tall and the place is packed, so it’s a reasonable assumption.
Instead, she says, “I don’t usually do this, but, I thought, maybe— And, my friends said I should just be brave and go for it, so, uh, would you be interested in maybe going out sometime? With me?”
”Oh, uh,” Davey rubs a hand over the back of his neck, a little thrown. He scrambles for a good way to turn her down without being mean. “I’m actually not—“
”Dave, did you want any food or just the drink?” Tony asks, tugging at his shirt sleeve to get his attention.
Davey latches onto him like a lifeline.
”I’m here with my boyfriend, Tony,” he lies, throwing an arm around Tony’s shoulders and pulling him in close.
Tony, because he’s the absolute best and Davey’s new favorite person, doesn’t even miss a beat.
“Oh, hey,” he says, curling into Davey’s side. “Sorry, this one’s taken, but believe me, I understand the appeal.”
”Oh my god,” Julia says, looking mortified. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize—“
”No biggie,” Tony says easily. “It happens.”
He turns back to Davey, lifts up on his toes, and presses a chaste kiss to his lips. “Come on, babe,” he says, with a ridiculous eyebrow wriggle. “Help me carry our drinks.”
Julia excuses herself with another flustered apology—Davey almost feels bad, but mostly he’s relieved at how relatively painless the whole exchange was.
“I owe you one,” Davey murmurs to Tony as they escape, heading to their table.
Tony snorts. “Oh, trust me, I’m about to get it back, with interest, in sheer entertainment value.”
“What do you mean?” Davey asks.
“Judging by the look on his face, Jack definitely saw what just went down,” Tony says, oddly vindictive. “And he ate the last of my fucking Froot Loops yesterday, so he deserves what’s coming to him.”
“What’s coming to him?” Davey questions, a little too drunk to follow this new thread of the conversation.
“Don’t worry about it,” Tony says, patting his shoulder. “Here, sit.”
He pushes Davey into the open seat next to Jack—who's watching them with a strange expression, tension pulling at the corners of his mouth.
That tension only grows more pronounced as Tony plops himself into Davey’s lap and makes himself nice and comfortable. Davey just wraps his arms around Tony’s waist, resigned to this becoming A Whole Thing.
”Everyone here owes me money,” Tony announces gleefully to the table at large. “He didn’t even make it five minutes.”
There’s a collective groan.
“Who was it this time?” Specs asks, digging into his pockets for his wallet.
”Girl at the bar,” Tony says, nodding in the right direction. “The one in the green dress.”
The whole group turns to look as one, not even trying to be discreet. Davey resists the urge to sigh.
“She actually seemed normal,” Tony continues, with audible disbelief. Davey wishes he could take offense but, unfortunately, it’s well-warranted. “Cute, too. I wouldn’t’ve chased her off if Dave hadn’t signaled.”
”And where did kissing him factor int’a the equation?” Jack asks, crossing his arms over his chest as he leans back in his chair.
“You kissed Davey?” Albert asks loudly, looking intrigued. He turns to Davey and continues, “You let him kiss you? Don’t’cha know where his mouth has been?”
“Fuck off, Albie, I’m fresh as a fucking daisy—“
“No one should be kissin’ Davey,” Jack insists with a scowl.
“Dave didn’t mind,” Tony says with a smirk. He’s clearly enjoying this way too much. “And anyway, we had’ta sell it.”
“Oh, I bet you fucking did,” Jack mutters under his breath.
“How come Racer gets to mack on Davey?” Albert complains, which tracks—tequila always makes him pouty. “It’s my birthday! If anyone gets to kiss Davey, it should be me.”
“Pretty sure that’s not how that works,” Romeo tells Albert as Jack sputters soundlessly.
“Sure, it does,” Al insists. “Hey, Dave, can I kiss you?”
“No one is kissing Davey!” Jack says. He kind of looks like he’s got a swarm of bees in his mouth, his cheeks flushed and puffed out, his jaw working furiously.
“Uh, not with that fuckin’ attitude,” Albert scoffs, extremely unimpressed. “How ‘bout it, Dave?”
Davey blinks. “Um…”
“No one else is kissing Davey,” Jack orders.

WIP Wednesday
Tagged by the always amazing @rogerzsteven (new fic drop!) @ebdaydreamer @bidisasterbuckdiaz (new fic drop!) @theotherbuckley @wikiangela @daffi-990 and @tizniz (new fic drop!) Thank you all so much and go check out their works!
Doing this on my lunch break, so dropping this snippet from NFL Buck real quick! Hope ya'll enjoy! All things NFL Buck.
It’s their second date after getting back together, after Eddie had attended his first session of therapy and his mind had been whirling, stuck on one particular question. It took him until the main course was served to finally ask, “When did you know?” Evan pulls his hungry gaze from his steaming plate of lasagna to look at Eddie in confusion, “Um, I told you about this place and their lasagna like a week ago and if I recall you-“ “No, not when you knew what you wanted for dinner. Jesus Christ, we really need to take a closer look at your meal plan with how often good food is on your mind.” Eddie snarks. Buck shrugs, unaffected by Eddie’s bitchy remark, “Well now you know the way to my heart.” Then winks. Flustered at his boyfriend’s shameless flirting, Eddie sputtered and flushed. “You-Evan-you are just-“ The college quarterback chuckled and reached across the table to take Eddie’s hand, “God you are so easy to rile up, its adorable.” He gives his hand a squeeze three times and ducks his head to meet Eddie’s dropped gaze, “Just tell me what you meant. When did I know what?” Eddie sucks in a breath then pushes it out and puts his entire focus on Evan, “When did you know you were bi-sexual?” His boyfriend’s eyes go slightly wide, but he doesn’t look away and the grip on Eddie’s hand tightens, “What-um, what brought this on?” He asks. “Therapy.” Eddie responded, dropping his voice to a lower volume, “I brought up our date to Frank and he steered the conversation into the whole sexual identity and near the end, he told me I should hear other queer stories and that’ll help give me a better understanding of… well who I am.” “That makes a lot of sense. Seeing and hearing others in the community, helps makes sense of the world and shows that you are not alone.” Evan nods in understanding, “So, it’s not just the when of it all, but how too?” “Yea, yea. But you – you don’t have to tell me any of it. Frank pointed out that no one, not even you, owes me their story. I just… Well, I feel really comfortable and safe with you, and I hope it’s the same with me for you. You know? And I always want to know more about you, and this is a part of it. Also, it’s just so- “ “Hey, hey, hey. Eddie. You’re rambling. Which is my thing.” Buck cuts in, giving Eddie a chance to suck in break in his word spew. The younger man chuckles, “Going give me quite the complex directing all this at me.” “I’m sorry.” Eddie breaths out, gripping Evan’s hand tighter. “No apologies needed. Seriously. I am really honored, because I do feel comfortable and safe with you and I am so fucking ecstatic that you do as well.” ‘I feel like I could give you, my heart.’ Eddie thought but doesn’t voice the words. It’s too soon, he just got Evan back, and he’s just beginning to untangle the mess that was his mind and life. Instead, he says, “Me too.” He eases his grip and begins to play with Buck’s fingers, “So you’ll tell me?”
Getting some backstory of the boys and yes a version of Tommy is a part of it.

Putting Roots In My Dreamland
Chapter Three of There’s Nothing Like This
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Jamie Tartt x fem!footballer!reader
Warnings: none :)
Word Count: 2.5k
Author’s Note: here’s the Jamie I promised :) another shoutout to @buckychristwrites for helping me out when my brain shuts down
When you wake up on Sunday, body sore and head aching and mouth dry, you vow to never drink again. You wonder what had possessed you to make plans for today when you knew exactly what your night was going to be like as soon as your locker room celebration started. At some point, everyone had made their way from Nelson Road to a club, and it was all downhill from there.
Luckily for you, Jamie was in the same boat as you and was hopefully regretting his decisions just as much as you were. Though, knowing how unfair the world is, you’re sure he feels fresh as a daisy right now. He’s probably been up for hours and had time to make himself some sort of healthy, superfood smoothie before doing an intense workout followed by a shower with a complex hair and skincare routine, because he was insufferable like that.
You, meanwhile, were wondering how you’re able to stand on your own, let alone play a full football match. You’re reminded of the creeping end of your career, coming much faster than it should, so you throw yourself into the shower just so you have something else to think about. The warm water soothes your muscles and your overactive brain until you’re actually looking forward to spending the day with Jamie.
The shower takes longer than it typically would, mainly due to how long you just stand under the stream of water without doing anything, simply letting the water wash over your body as you psych yourself up for the day ahead of you. It wasn’t that Jamie made you nervous, but spending time with new people, getting to know new friends, was always a little nerve inducing for you. You and Jamie had only spoken a handful of times and never for any longer than five minutes, so the thought of spending a whole day with just him made your stomach flip.
After spending far too long in the shower, you check your phone to see a message from Mackie, along with plenty of pictures. You groan as you scroll through them, confronting your decisions from the night before. They aren’t bad pictures, and you’re surprised at how good of a photographer Mackie is even though she had just as much to drink as you did.
In all of them, you look exuberantly happy, your mouth wide open in a grin or mid-laugh with a drink in one hand and the other slung around the shoulder of a teammate or one of the boys. You’ve been happy, but it’s been a while since you’ve seen it, since you were able to look at your own face and see the joy so clearly written on it. Even just looking back makes you smile, until you get a text from Jamie and your stomach fills with nerves.
He’s sent you an address, asking if you want to meet at a coffee shop around noon so he can show you around Richmond, and you don’t even remember giving him your number.
Can’t wait! You reply, even though you’d love nothing more than to wait and spend the rest of your day lounging in front of your TV and eating nothing but comfort foods. Instead, you finish getting ready before standing in front of your closet and taking far too long to settle on an outfit. You know you’ve already met and that you’ve literally tackled the man, but you still want to make a good first impression outside of Nelson Road, outside of whatever you said or did last night.
All you hope is that you didn’t embarrass yourself too much.
You decide to walk to the cafe, knowing the fresh air will help you calm your nerves more than driving on the confusing London streets would. To your shock, Jamie is already sitting there when you arrive with fifteen minutes to spare. Even from a distance, you can see the way he alternates between checking the time on his phone and pushing his hair out of his face, the headband he wears at Nelson Road nowhere to be seen.
When he finally spots you coming towards him, he launches himself out of his chair and rushes forward to meet you halfway. He’s wearing dark colored pants and a nice button-up instead of the matching tracksuit you’d been expecting and looks nowhere near as hungover as you feel. He looks like he’s been up since the sunrise and went on a run just because he wanted to, and it makes you momentarily hate him just a little until he smiles at you and you’re reminded that he’s really just a boy who happens to be a professional footballer.
Pleasantries are exchanged as you both take a seat, and you can’t help the way your eyes drift from the menu in your hands to his face, the way he’s pouting slightly as he thinks and pushes his hair away from his face in what you assume is a nervous habit, something to keep his hands busy. It’s endearing in a way that makes you want to stand and run and never leave your house again.
After the two of you order, the conversation stills and the silence becomes awkward and you have no idea what to say. It’s not like you can ask him about himself, because your guilty pleasure is trashy tabloids and you’ve read more of his interviews with well-known papers than you’d like to admit. Jamie doesn’t seem all that eager to break the silence either and there’s been a furrow in his brow since you sat down, so you take it upon yourself to get the ball rolling.
“Thanks for offering to show me around, I really appreciate it,” you say, setting down your utensils as you finish eating, “I feel like I haven’t done anything except train since I got here.” And really, you weren’t wrong; you’d gone to the grocery store and stopped at a coffee shop with Mackie after practice one day, but other than that you haven’t been anywhere except Nelson Road and your house, and you’ve already been in Richmond for more than a month.
“Yeah,” he nods along as you speak before he adds, “I’ve been here a lot longer than you and I still don’t really know Richmond that well.” You can’t help the confusion that clouds your face as the man who offered to show you around Richmond admits that he doesn’t know the area and Jamie notices immediately so he scrambles to add, “I know a lot of places! Just not everywhere, but I’ve got my favorites.”
It’s becoming more and more difficult not to smile when you’re around him, there’s just something about him that makes you feel so open in a way you haven’t experienced since you met Mackie. He’s attentive, listening to everything you have to say with his full attention, nodding along as you answer questions about your favorite things and what you miss from back home and how you’re liking London so far.
It’s obvious that he genuinely cares about your answers, that he wants to hear what you have to say, and you can’t remember the last time anyone paid attention to you like that and it makes your skin prickle in a way that isn’t completely unpleasant.
The two of you start your tour around Richmond, questions and stories being volleyed back and forth as you walk along the streets. Jamie contributes to your conversation and he answers all your questions openly, but it’s clear that he’d rather have the focus be on you and the majority of his contributions are nods and “mhm”s thrown in when appropriate.
You can’t help but to wonder if this is how he acts with everybody or if it’s just because you’ve really only just met or if he’s regretting offering to show you around Richmond. You always make it a point not to talk about yourself, wanting to keep the focus on anything other than you and your life, and even though you’re not spilling out your deepest darkest secrets, you still feel exposed in ways you hadn’t expected.
“I love all the girls, and the coaches, and Keeley and Rebecca are great,” you say after Jamie asks how you’re liking Richmond so far. You know that’s probably not what he meant by that question but you can’t fathom opening up to him any other way, definitely not in the middle of a Sunday in a public park while you’re still a little hungover.
The last person you’d really, truly opened up to, shared all your deepest fears and hopes and dreams with was Mackie, and you’d been friends for almost five years now. The idea of exposing yourself, of someone truly getting to know you made your skin crawl, despite how much you’re coming to enjoy being around Jamie.
“Yeah, Keeley’s awesome, she’s one of me best mates,” he replies and you’re glad that the conversation has shifted away from you and onto someone you’d much rather talk about.
Jamie’s tour ends up being less like a tour and more like the two of you aimlessly walking around Richmond with him vaguely pointing out restaurants and shops that he likes, but you don’t mind at all. It’s much nicer than you’d expected just to talk with Jamie, and you find yourself looking forward to spending more time with him while also feeling terrified of seeming childish if you were to ask him to hang out again.
Despite your football playing strategies, you’d never been one to be exceptionally forward or confident in your personal life, so even just the idea of spending a day with Jamie seemed unbelievable. Although, he really was nothing like you’d expected.
The Jamie you were spending time with was considerate and a little awkward and told awful jokes that you couldn’t help but laugh at, and the more time you spent with him the more relaxed you became. By the time you find yourself in front of your house, you’re debating whether or not you should lie and say it isn’t your place just so you can keep walking, and you can spend a little more time talking with Jamie.
“This is me,” you say instead, throwing an arm backwards to point at your front door, “I had a really nice time today, thanks for showing me around.” You try not to smile too wide, try not to seem like a child who’s overly excited about making a new friend even though on the inside you’re practically jumping up and down.
Once you’d gotten past the fact that you were talking with the Jamie Tartt, football star, you were really just overjoyed at the idea of finally having a friend that wasn’t just a teammate, someone who you’d need to see outside of training and who’d drag you out of your house to experience life.
“Yeah, of course,” Jamie responds, his hands hovering out in front of him before he settles them into his pockets, “we’ll have to do something again sometime.”
You can’t help but to smile at Jamie and how uncharacteristically shy he seems, but when he notices you smiling, he beams back at you. You say your goodbyes before heading inside, internally debating whether or not you should have asked if he wanted to come in.
——
As Jamie watches your front door close, he takes his first deep breath of the day. It seemed like he was held together by nothing but nerves all morning, and now that he’s heading home he can finally relax. He’d been so worried about saying something dumb that he’d barely talked, choosing instead to ask you question after question to keep the conversation on any topic except himself.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to share with you, because he really did, he just couldn’t risk ruining what was shaping up to be a comfortable friendship with his own insecurities and fears. And, he could listen to you talk for hours and hours no matter what you were saying. You could read him the dictionary and he’d sit with rapt attention the entire time, overjoyed just to be near you.
He’d been worried he’d come off too strong and scare you away, but it seemed as if you enjoyed yourself as much as he did. He can’t help the little bubble of pride that fills his chest over the idea that you enjoyed a day he’d planned, enjoyed spending time with him enough to say you wanted to meet again soon.
You'd been so different from how you were at the Dog Track, than how you are on the pitch, but Jamie doesn’t mind at all. He wants to learn everything about you, all your quirks and fears and everything you love.
Being around you feels like being punched in the chest, and Jamie can’t remember ever feeling this way about anyone, not when he met Roy Kent for the first time or when he told Keeley he loved her, but he doesn’t mind. It’s a new feeling, and it scares him a little, but it’s not a bad feeling at all. It’s like he can’t breathe around you, but he’d rather struggle for breath than never see you again.
Ever since that moment when your eyes locked your first day at Nelson Road, Jamie hasn’t been able to stop thinking about you. He remembers checking Instagram every morning and night until Keeley posted the women’s team roster and then he spent hours scrolling through your page.
At first, he’d felt like a creep, like he was intruding on something private even though your page was public and you’re a professional athlete. He was careful not to like any of your old photos, careful not to do anything that would send you a notification that he was spending hours scrolling down your profile.
There were photos of you and Mackie and the rest of the US Women’s Team, there were professional photos of you at events or at photo shoots for brand deals, there were action shots of you on the pitch, but his favorite photos were the ones you’d taken yourself, selfies and group photos and pictures of your travels.
If anyone was around, Jamie would have been beyond embarrassed when he realized he was smiling as he scrolled through your photos, taking in those little aspects of you that he hadn’t gotten the chance to experience yet in your minimal contact with each other. Even more embarrassing to him was the fact that he didn’t follow you for another week, needing time to work up the nerve as if it was outlandish that he’d follow you on your public account, as if all the other players on his team weren’t already following you.
He just loved getting to see the world, see Richmond and Nelson Road from your eyes.
There’s something about you that makes him want to learn everything about you, that makes him want to spend every moment of his free time with you, that makes him want to fall asleep and wake up next to you. He’s not sure what it is yet, but he knows some of his teammates are starting to pick up on it, Sam even going so far as to call him out on his starry-eyed staring.
All he hopes is that you don’t pick up on it.

Chapter 13 - Different Songs
The self proclaimed, “world famous” Wooden Nickel, at two hundred and twenty two Elk Avenue, was sandwiched between Mountain Spirits Liquor Store and the Princess Wine Bar. It had a pink wooden facade with green detailing around the doors and windows and was conveniently located just a short walk from your cabin.
The inside was all dark leather and even darker wood, its colour scheme oddly similar to Spencer’s apartment. It had an old fireplace with a wrap-around bench for snuggling up and getting warm, dim lighting and deer and elk heads mounted on the walls.
They had a small and expensive menu on offer but you couldn’t deny the smell of the food cooking that wafted from the kitchen was out of this world. You were taking it all in, eyes bouncing around the room as Spencer seemed to hurriedly lead you with a hand on your lower back to a booth over the back of the room.
It only took a brief glance at the bar for you to quickly spot the bright red head of hair to know why. You rolled your eyes and he continued motioning you along.
“You knew she worked here.” You grumbled as you took a seat at the booth.
“Who?” Spencer shook his head and if you didn’t know any better you would think he was being genuine.
“Fire engine Mary. There are a ton of bars in this town but when I suggested going out, you insisted you’d heard this one was the best.” You narrowed your eyes on him. “I can leave if you’d like to be alone with her.”
Spencer wished his dick didn’t twitch when you suggested that but he ignored it, still on his feet.
“What are you drinking?” He asked, already seemingly halfway to the bar.
“Cool it, Casanova,” you scoffed, getting to your feet. “I’ll get the drinks.”
“But I…” he started as you pushed him into the seat while rolling your eyes.
“Scotch, hubby?” You didn’t wait for him to reply before you were turning away and heading towards the bar.
You purposefully headed straight towards a gap in the section of the bar that Mary was tending, wanting her to know you were here and hopefully seeing you as a threat. You unzipped your jacket as you made your way over, puffing out your chest and making sure the gold band on your finger was on display.
She smiled at you as you approached but it wasn’t a particularly friendly gesture.
“Oh hi,” she spoke as you reached the bar. “Daisy was it?”
“Rose.” You corrected her with a roll of your eyes.
“Same difference.” She shrugged. “What can I get you?”
“I’ll have a large glass of Merlot and a double scotch on the rocks for my husband.” You made sure to emphasise the last word.
“Hmm guess he does have good taste in some things.” Mary clucked, turning her back on you to fix your drinks.
You slammed your hands on the bar top, ready to leap over the counter and slap this silly bitch around the face but before you could make another move, a hand was on your shoulder.
Assuming it would be Spencer, you turned with a heavy frown which quickly faded when you found yourself staring into the eyes of someone who was most certainly not your fake husband.
The man in question was the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. His brown eyes were so soft but so alluring as they regarded you, his smile reaching right up to them. He had jet black hair which was swept back off his face and a thick beard which matched in colour. His smile just about lit up the whole damn room.
“Don’t mind Mary.” He spoke, a hint of amusement in his voice. “She’s feisty.”
“I’m feistier.” You countered making the stranger chuckle.
“I’ll bet.” He continued to laugh and it was so deep you felt it vibrate your soul. “I’m Jesse. Jesse McGill.”
“McGill?” You shook his hand which he offered to you. “As in the diner?”
“My pop’s place. I work there during the off season. In the winter I’m a snowboard instructor.”
The look he was giving you made you a little weak at the knees and for a moment you forgot all about Spencer and Mary and anything that didn’t directly pertain to Jesse in front of you.
“You must be pretty athletic then.” Your eyes wandered of their own accord, taking in his tight black tee which hugged strong, tattooed biceps. They continued down to his equally tight jeans and you couldn’t help but wonder how amazing his ass might look in them.
“I guess.” He chuckled again and you might actually collapse if he kept doing that. “What’s your name?”
“Rose. Burnett.” You nodded, trying to focus your brain on simple conversation and not get caught up imagining what this stranger might be like in bed.
“Beautiful. It suits you.” He smiled so brightly at you, you felt your brain melting inside your head.
You opened your mouth to reply but before you could, the sound of glasses slamming down on the counter top startled you.
“Careful, Jesse,” Mary’s smug voice entered your ears. “She’s married.”
You turned to her and shot her a look that was angrier than it should have been and she simply smiled at you.
“I’ll open you a tab, hon. It’ll be under Daisy.” Mary looked pleased with herself as she turned and walked away.
You took a calming breath before you turned back to Jesse who looked a little downtrodden.
“It’s my fault, I didn’t notice the ring.” He smiled a little sadly.
“Yeah.” You rolled your lip between your teeth, wishing you could tell him it wasn’t a real marriage but of course that would be dangerous. “It was really nice to meet you.”
“You too.” He nodded at you. “And seriously, don’t pay any attention to Mary, she’s all bark and no bite.”
“I’ll bear that in mind.” You picked up your drinks and took one more glance at Jesse before you forced yourself to walk away.
You physically had to drag yourself back over to Spencer and dropped into the booth with a small huff, pushing his drink across the table towards him.
“I was about to send out a search party. Where the hell did you go?” He shook his head at you.
“Your girlfriend was giving me hassle.” You sighed, sipping your wine.
“Jealous?” Spencer cocked his eyebrow at you in amusement.
“Of her? Please.” You scoffed.
Your eyes wandered back towards the bar and landed on the side of Jesse’s face as he talked to another man. From the side you could really appreciate his bone structure, he clearly had a strong jawline hidden under that beard. Your mind quickly wandered right down a gutter and you couldn’t help but picture what that beard would feel like between your legs.
You clenched your thighs together under the table and felt your cheeks flushing a little. Spencer frowned watching your cheeks pink up and followed your gaze over to the bar.
He rolled his eyes, downing at least half of the scotch in one as he saw what you were staring at. He felt anger bubbling in the pit of his stomach, a protectiveness washing over him.
“Does he know you’re married?” He spat, causing your eyes to snap back to him.
“Not really married.” You rolled your eyes. “But yes, your scarlet harlot ratted me out.”
“Good.” Spencer scoffed, sitting back in the booth. “You better stay away from him.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me.” He pulled a face.
“So it’s ok for you to flirt with the young bimbo but I can’t talk to a handsome, age appropriate man?” You glared at him.
He sat forward in his chair again, his facial expression softening slightly. But then he slammed his palms against the table, causing you to jump a little at the sound. You could tell instantly that the light switch had flipped once more and gone was the sweet, awkward Spencer you cared about.
“You belong to me.” He spoke calmly. “I’ve already told you that, princess. You are mine.”
“But you don’t belong to me?”
“Correct.” He smirked, sipping from his glass again.
“That doesn’t work for me.” You shook your head.
“Too bad, sweetheart.”
You clenched your jaw, looking up at Jesse again as he was slipping a thick winter coat on and heading to the door. You downed your wine in one and dropped the glass back to the table.
“Spencer, with all due respect,” you stood up, grabbing your coat and purse. “Go to hell.”
“Y/N,” he spoke in a warning tone, trying to grab your arm as you passed. “Y/N…Rose! Come back here!”
You didn’t turn back around, just continued towards the door hoping you’d annoyed him as much as you’d wanted to.
Spencer picked up his glass and slammed it back on the table in his frustration, swearing under his breath. He lifted the glass a second time and finished the contents and as he was about to follow you, someone was sliding into the booth next to him and blocking his exit.
Mary was giving him the most sultry smile, her eyes dripping with lust as she leant in close to him. Her long nail grazed along his cheek, down his neck and dipped just slightly beneath the collar of his purple button down.
“Finally, I never thought she’d leave.” She breathed, pushing her chest out toward him.
Her featherlight touch on the sensitive skin just beneath his collarbone combined the delicious look she was giving him banished all thoughts of you from his mind. And when he leant even closer and put his large hand on her thigh, he wasn’t thinking of you at all.
“Me either.” He smirked at her dangerously, moving in even closer still and ghosting his lips over the shell of her ear. “You wanna get out of here, princess?”
***
Shoving open the door of the Wooden Nickel and stepping out into the cold, you were kept warm by a blanket of anger towards Spencer.
He thought he owned you, how dare he? You wanted to prove him wrong more than anything else in the world.
The sound of a lighter flickering caught your attention and you turned to your left to find Jesse leaning up against the side of the bar, a cigarette cradled between his lips. He smiled at you around it.
“Following me?” His eyebrow cocked in amusement.
“What if I said I was?” You sidled over to him.
Feeling brazen you reached and took the cigarette from his lips before taking a puff on it. You weren’t strictly a smoker, but you’d had one or two on occasion, usually when you drank a lot. He watched the way your lips wrapped around the butt and you inhaled the smoke before delicately exhaling it and handing him back the cigarette.
“What would your husband think of that, Rose?” He licked his bottom lip.
“My husband is a drunk. A bully. And I’m fairly certain he will have his hands too full with a certain slutty redhead to even notice I’m not there.” You shrugged, trying not to sound too bitter.
“You like cocktails, Rose?” He pushed himself away from the wall.
“Sure.” You nodded at him.
“Come with me.” He placed his hand on your back and started leading you away from the Wooden Nickel, in the direction of 3rd Street.
He kept his hand on your back, using his other to drag on the cigarette as the two of you walked. When Spencer led you in this way you felt controlled, but when Jesse did it you felt safe.
You let him lead you across the street and up the road to an old wooden building that used to be an old miners cabin. It had a crude, handwritten sign over the door claiming it as The Dogwood. Inside was small and cosy, but nonetheless bustling. Jesse motioned you towards the bar where several people greeted him with smiles and waves.
“Mini Gill, good to see ya, boy.” The ageing, bearded man behind the bar leant across the counter and shook Jesse's hand.
“Good to see you too, Mac.” He smiled amiably but the old man, Mac, was already looking at you.
“And who is your friend?” He asked Jesse but he was eyeing you up and down.
“This is Rose, she’s…on vacation? Or are you planning on staying?” He asked you with a small frown.
“Undecided.” You offered him a smile, quickly and subtly sliding off the gold wedding band and slotting it into your pocket before you held your hand out to shake Mac’s. “Nice to meet you.”
“She’s cute.” Mac wiggled his eyebrows at Jesse.
“She is.” Jesse agreed with a shy smile. “Can we get some drinks and not scare the pretty lady away?”
You felt your cheeks burning and you looked away, finding a menu and focusing on that instead. But no sooner had you picked it up, you found it being plucked from your hand.
“You like vodka?” Mac grinned at you.
“Sure.” You nodded.
“I have the perfect drink for you. I call it the Rosebud.” He beamed brightly.
“Sounds great.” You smiled back.
“Sure you want a rosebud too, dontcha Mini Gill?” Mac winked at Jesse, causing the younger man to turn about fifty shades of red.
“Jesus Christ, Mac.” He muttered under his breath. “I’ll just have a beer.”
“IPA or stout?”
“Surprise me.” Jesse sighed.
Mac chuckled to himself as he went about his business making the drinks. You were smiling in amusement at Jesse.
“Not everyone in this town is like this, I swear.” He sidled up to you. “I apologise if he made you feel uncomfortable.”
“Who’s uncomfortable?” You giggled. “So, Mini Gill? Adorable, truly.”
“Mac and my pops have known each other since before I was born. Apparently when my ma was pregnant with me, that’s what he called me. Almost forty years later and I’m still Mini Gill.” He laughed with a shrug of his shoulders.
“How did that make it even more adorable?”
“Stop it.” He waved a hand. “You keep saying nice things to me and I’m going to do something very stupid.”
Your stomach tightened when his hand came to your face and cupped your cheek in the most delicate way you’d ever been touched before. His fingers brushed your hair behind your ear and you had to swallow thickly.
“Define stupid.” You croaked, feeling a little dizzy.
“How ‘bout I show you?” He leant closer and you nodded frantically.
When he gently pressed his lips against yours you were instantly smitten, letting him cautiously part your lips and slide his tongue inside your mouth. Your knees buckled at the tender way in which he kissed you, and you reached out to grip his firm bicep to keep you on your feet.
His wiry beard was a little scratchy but it felt wonderful. His hold on your face was so light, as if you were the most fragile creature in the world. You hummed against his lips, never wanting this moment to end.
But soon enough someone was clearing their throat and the two of you sprung apart, your cheeks burning with embarrassment at the way Mac was looking between the two of you in subtle glee.
“I knew you wanted a rosebud, Mini Gill.” Mac winked at Jesse again, sliding your drinks across the bar before strolling away.
When Jesse looked back at you, you were laughing and you quickly gripped him by the lapels of his jacket and tugged him in close for another kiss.
***
Out the back of the Wooden Nickel, Spencer had Mary bent over a dumpster, her skirt pulled up to her hips while his slacks and underwear were tugged down to his thighs.
She’d been prepared for this judging by the tiniest little lace thong she was wearing and the condom she’d handed him from her jacket pocket. He had one hand down the front of her shirt, teasing her nipple between his fingers and the other flush on the dumpster to steady himself.
She spread her legs for him, pushing her ass back against his dick which found its way between her legs and plunged inside of her.
Foreplay hadn’t lasted very long. She’d dropped to her knees and sucked him off when she’d first gotten him out here but if he were perfectly honest, she wasn’t all that good at it, not like you were anyway. He fingered her in return, mostly to get her ready for his large member.
She practically howled as he entered her, clearly not used to taking cocks as big as his. He felt her pulsing and stretching around him but not in the way you did when he fucked you.
It was good. It was enjoyable. It wasn’t as though he wouldn’t be able to finish; it just might take longer than usual. But that wasn’t entirely Mary’s fault, the condom certainly didn’t help. And Mary couldn’t help that she wasn’t you.
He continued his thrusts, gripping the back of Mary’s fire engine red hair and balling up on his fist, tugging on it like a leash. He closed his eyes and just focused on the way it felt, filtered everything else out.
It was good. It was enjoyable. But fuck, it wasn’t you.
He came eventually, whether Mary did or not was another thing entirely. He pulled out and stripped off the condom, tossing it in the dumpster while she turned around and repositioned her panties and smoothed down her skirt. He tucked himself away and did up his pants.
Even in the dimly lit side alley, he could see a small blush creeping to her cheeks and he had to refrain from rolling his eyes.
I knew it. You’re all talk, all false bravado. And now I’ve actually slept with you and you’re vulnerable the insecurities are going to come any second…
“Was that…did you uh, enjoy that?” She seemed to flinch at her own words and Spencer felt bad for her.
Despite wanting to scoff and simply turn and leave her here he fought against it, he had no idea how long he’d be in this town and he could use with someone on his side. Especially when you weren’t.
“It was great, sweetheart.” He gently stroked her messy hair off her face, tucking it behind her ear. “But I am married. So we need to keep this quiet ok?”
“Of course.” She nodded, looking much like a frightened deer. It was such a stark contrast to her flirtatiousness earlier.
“Thank you.” He leant in and placed a chaste kiss on her lips before letting his hand fall to his side. “I’m gonna go ok? You should be working right?”
“Shit, yeah.” She suddenly snapped out of her post-sex daze. “I’ll see you, yeah?”
“Sure.” He nodded, watching as she quickly hurried back down the alley.
Spencer exhaled, shaking his head a little at his own stupidity. Not only had he probably led that poor girl on but he’d betrayed you. Was it cheating? The two of you had never defined what you were beyond partners in crime, but it felt like he’d been disloyal.
Sleeping with Mary was supposed to be fun, but he hadn’t stopped thinking about you and how she wasn’t you. How her body wasn’t yours, how it didn’t respond to him the way yours did. How it didn’t feel anywhere near as amazing to be with her as it did with you.
He could deny it all he wanted, skirt around the issue but he was just as bound to you as you were to him. He let you in and you were there to stay. He was in love with you, it was as simple as that.
God he was a fucking moron.
He dragged himself out of the alley, needing a drink or more accurately, several. He found another bar down the street, not much wanting to show his face in the Wooden Nickel again right now. He ambled into The Secret Stash keeping his head down and ordered four shots in quick succession.
But that was only the beginning.
***
Jesse insisted on walking you back to the cabin and the tension that surrounded you was palpable. He was sweet, and a very good kisser. You didn’t have to worry about his mood shifting like Spencer. He was the kind of guy you thought Spencer was.
For less than twenty four hours Spencer had shown you bliss, found this perfect little place for you to live and lulled you into believing things were going to be ok between you. But all it had taken was one pretty, young thing walking his way and you became old news. And you certainly weren’t going to wait around for him forever.
Jesse walked you up the little cobbled path and the two of you came to a stop just by the steps leading to the porch.
“So,” he smiled a little wistfully. “As amazing as tonight has been I can’t help but keep remembering that you’re married.”
“Yeah.” You nodded, swallowing thickly. “It’s not…it’s really complicated. I guess you could say it’s a convience thing? He’s more my friend than a husband, if that makes any semblance of sense.”
“Not really.” He chuckled lightly. “You’re trying to say it’s not a real marriage?”
“I guess. It’s…we’re not together like a couple? Kissing you wasn’t exactly cheating, and I’m fairly certain he was doing a lot more than just kissing someone else tonight so, yeah.”
“I really don’t understand.” He laughed again, stepping closer to you and cupping your cheek in his hand. “But is he going to kick my ass if I kiss you again?”
“I’d like to see him try. You saw how weedy he is right?” You smirked, edging closer to him. “But in seriousness, he would have no right to kick your ass even if he could.”
“I don’t want to step on any toes.” He leaned even closer, his breath fanning across your face.
“No one’s having their toes stepped on, trust me.” You encouraged him and it seemed to be all he needed to hear as he closed the small space between you and kissed you again.
You melted into him, the same way you had every time he’d kissed you tonight. You’d felt like a giddy teenager, making out with a hot guy until your lips were swollen and puffy. With all the time you’d spent with your lips on each other tonight you’d barely had anything to drink.
The same could not be said about your husband.
It just turned midnight as you were succumbing to Jesse and the kiss, when you heard shuffling nearby and you reluctantly pulled away from him and glanced down the path.
Spencer was stumbling on his feet, barely able to take a step without nearly falling down. His eyes were clearly glazed over as he stared angrily at the two of you and attempted to make his way up to the cabin.
You held your breath as he ambled towards you, wondering what the hell you’d gotten yourself into. Spencer was surely going to blow his lid, maybe he would try to kick Jesse’s ass, although you had no doubts that Jesse was stronger and had the added advantage of not being wasted.
He reached you, looking between the two of you for a moment or two before he huffed out a breath.
“Leave.” He spat at Jesse as he pushed between the two of you and struggled up the few steps to the porch.
“Spen…” you quickly stopped yourself before correcting what you were going to say. “Andrew, how much have you had to drink?”
He spun on his heels, almost falling right back down the stairs but managing to grab the wall to steady himself.
“I said leave.” He repeated looking at Jesse, clearly ignoring you. “Unless you plan to fuck my wife on my doorstep. Leave now.”
He turned again and fumbled in locating his keys while you and Jesse watched on like misbehaved children. He finally got them out of his pocket and shoved the key in the door, getting it open and forcing his way inside.
You rolled your lip between your teeth and offered Jesse a slightly melancholy smile.
“I should make sure he doesn’t hurt himself or break something.” You took a step backwards. “Can I see you tomorrow?”
“I’m really not looking to get into the middle of something complicated.” He shrugged. “I like you, Rose, but I’ve had my share of complicated when it comes to women and I don’t really think I can put myself in that sort of situation again.”
“Jesse, let me…” you trailed off when you heard a crash from inside the house. You glanced towards the open door and sighed before looking back at Jesse. “Just meet me for lunch tomorrow and we can talk, ok?”
He sighed but nodded his head all the same.
“As long as it’s not at my dad’s place.”
“Anywhere.” Another crash startled you and you rolled your eyes. “But right now I really gotta go.”
“I’ll swing by and pick you up around lunch time.”
You dared to lean in and place a chaste kiss on his cheek before stepping away again. He smiled sadly at you before he turned and started down the path.
You turned back to the house just another crash sounded out. You exhaled heavily, already knowing you were walking into a war zone and it was possible only one of you would make it out of this alive. Quite literally. You forced yourself to move, slowly up the front steps as you braced yourself for what was to come.
It was funny how quickly things could change. Just as you and Spencer seemed to be on the same page, he’d jumped ahead again. You’d been humming the same tune for a brief moment in time and then suddenly you’d been singing completely different songs all together. Maybe he’d teach you the lyrics, but you had a feeling you were on your own on this one.
The melody was just a little too fast for you to keep up, and maybe that had been the point. Maybe he didn’t want you to keep up so he could sing along with someone else instead.
Fresh out the box, shiny and new,
Played it so much 'til it went out of tune,
I tighten the peg 'til the tension erupts,
Didn't think that I could give up.
The record I spun when I was young,
Spoke to my heart and fit just like a glove.
But now that it's played out, the needle is worn,
Didn't think that I could give up.
What changed? What changed?
It's more than just our age,
Or how the music tastes, so I'm asking,
"What changed? What changed?"
'Cause now we're singing different songs,
Forgetting how to sing along together.
When every note comes out so wrong,
It keeps on getting harder to remember,
The melodies or what the lyrics mean,
'Cause now we're singing different songs.
Forgetting how to sing along together.
We once called it love, devolved into lust,
Jealousy speaks out to silence the trust.
We temper our words 'cause we're scared of the truth,
Humming tunes that we can't get through.
When I hear your voice, I hear someone else,
The stress on my heart's getting bad for my health.
So should we admit that we've both had enough?
Didn't think that we could give up.
So what changed? What changed?
It's more than just our age,
Or how the music tastes, so I'm asking?
"What changed? What changed?"
'Cause now we're singing different songs,
Forgetting how to sing along together.
When every note comes out so wrong,
It keeps on getting harder to remember,
The melodies, or what the lyrics mean,
'Cause now we're singing different songs.
Forgetting how to sing along together.
Oh-whoa-oh-oh (oh-whoa-oh-oh).
Oh-whoa-oh-oh (oh-whoa-oh-oh).
Oh-whoa-oh-oh (oh-whoa-oh-oh).
Can't sing along together,
Face to face, so far apart.
We're worlds away from what we were before, before, before.
We started singing different songs (singing different songs),
Forgetting how to sing along together.
When every note comes out so wrong (comes out so wrong),
It keeps on getting harder to remember (hey, hey, remember),
The melodies or what the lyrics mean (lyrics mean),
'Cause now we're singing different songs.
Forgetting how to sing along together.
Oh-whoa-oh-oh (oh-whoa-oh-oh).
Oh-whoa-oh-oh (oh-whoa-oh-oh).
Oh-whoa-oh-oh (oh-whoa-oh-oh),
Can't sing along together.

masterlist
this was the best part of your job, you thought to yourself as you picked up one of the three newly delivered kittens to give them a gentle wipe-over. only a few days old, they hadn't even opened their eyes yet, but knowing that they'd be going home to a warm and safe home instead of back onto the snow-laden streets where their mother had been found brought you incredible relief.
the doorbell sang out, and you hoped that the emergency foster family had finally arrived. luckily, you'd met them before and knew they were the kind to come in for regular checkups, it brought you comfort that you'd likely be able to see the newborns grow up over the next few months as they came in. you wandered out to reception to see them checking in, but your gaze rested on someone else entirely.

ah, he's here again.
"i think she got into a fight," he mumbled to the receptionist, adjusting his grasp on the pet carrier. mister min, as you'd come to know him from his records, had managed to charm one of the more notorious strays in your area into living with him. she was an old, rugged short hair bombay who had likely been abandoned as she grew older and more temperamental. somehow, she'd managed to find her new home with the young man, making him a frequent visitor in your clinic.
lucky cat, you thought.
you joined the receptionist behind the counter, looking over her shoulder as she entered him into the system. "mister min, let's have a look." you smiled at him, gesturing for him to place the carrier on the bench. he obliged, smiling his hello to you.
"i think daisy gets a little territorial when strays come for the food i leave out," he mumbled quietly, finicking with the carrier door. looking over him, you noted the faint pink tinge on his nose and cheeks from the cold on his otherwise flawless skin. his lips seemed soft and full respite the harsh winds outside. his dark hair was underneath a beanie, strands pushed to the side around his warm eyes. you looked down at daisy, silently agreeing that you'd probably get territorial over him, too.
the latch fell free and you bent your knees to see daisy, curled up and eyeing you skeptically from inside the carrier. other than a reddening scratch to her ear, she looked like a perfectly healthy, well-cared-for old cat. leaps and bounds from when mister min had first come in with her.
"did you want to come in while i check, sir?" you offered, glancing back up to your visitor, whose plush pink lips had fallen into a concerned frown. he nodded, following you as you collected the cat carrier and slid open the door to the examination room. he stood attentively at the metal high-table, watching as you pulled daisy from the cage earning a defiant meow. you saw the corners of his lips quirk up, an adoring look in his eyes.
maybe this was the best part of your job, you reconsidered.
shifting your attention to the cat, you gently examined her for any other wounds or scratches hidden by her fur. her reflexes seemed fine, and she didn't appear in any pain- but that wasn't always an indicator that everything was okay. you petted her soft coat as you lifted one of her claws. "hmmm, daisy seems alright, i'd be more concerned for the other cat, to be honest." you hummed. daisy looked like she'd seen a fight or two over her years, and her claws seemed sharp enough to defend herself if need be.
mister min sighed in relief, the tension in his shoulders finally dropping. "i'm just going to disinfect her ear, we might have to give her some shots just in case," you explained, stroking the grumpy cat who was already wandering back to their carer.
"as for the strays, i'd move the food somewhere she can't see. she might just be a little jealous." you smiled, looking back at him as he grinned proudly at daisy, giving her a soft chin scratch, beaming like she was the sweetest thing on earth.
as you were fetching the disinfectant and cotton swabs, an idea suddenly crept upon you. "is daisy normally okay with other cats?" you asked over your shoulder.
"i think so, she normally ignores them if they manage to get into the house. it's just boy cats, i think." he answered softly. you nodded, feeling a level of understanding with the grumpy, boy-hating cat. "well, at least you don't have to worry about her running off with a boyfriend." you chuckled, turning back to press the disinfectant wipe over daisy's scratch, earning a warning growl from the cat.
"we had a stray in today, pregnant." you continued, calming daisy with soothing strokes as she hissed while you cleaned up the shallow cut. "the kittens are okay, but the mother has nowhere to go." you confessed, attempting to keep the worry out of your voice. you could feel him watching you, softly shaking his head in disbelief. "i even considered taking her with me, but my apartment..." you trailed off, realising you were divulging a little too much information.
"where is she now?" he asked, concern lacing his tone. you didn't know much about the customer in front of you, but you knew his soft spot. stray cats. just as you'd expected- he was eager to help in any way he could. you promised you'd show him the strays after daisy was safe to go, assuring him that she was safely nestled in some blankets with her kittens in the next room over.
giving daisy her shots was a feat and a half, you'd ended up needing yoongi to hold her in place while the overnight receptionist held her head still so she didn't bite you or hurt herself as you inserted the needle. after that though, mister min was looking at you expectantly, eager to see the new kittens and their mother.
"ah," he let out a delighted gasp as he entered the room, slowly making his way over to the family. the mother immediately lifted her head to look at him, accepting his offer to sniff his hand before resting her head again, seemingly approving of whatever cat dad energy he had enough to let him pat her.
you stood behind him, overwhelmed by the precious sight. you almost reached for your phone to take a photo to immortalise the moment before realising that it might come off as wholly inappropriate. "can't believe they have to be separated," he mumbled to himself, cooing over how the little babies were wriggling around their mother for warmth. you hummed in agreement, it was a very rare for foster carers to take the whole family- you weren't expecting it, but a part of you had hoped that the kittens would be able to grow up with their mother- knowing it was what was best for their development, their best chance of survival. their mother had yet to produce milk for its kittens though, and you knew that without proper care- they'd likely become weak within a matter of days. despite this, you cursed the fact that your clinic wouldn't allow you to keep strays, even short-term. they had to go to a shelter or a foster family- and all the city shelters were closed down for the holidays.
almost on queue, the receptionist entered the room, desk phone in hand and extended it to you- a worried look on her face. "the foster carers are here," she whispered, eyes noticing the young man who was now sitting on the floor, looking over the cats.
from his spot, squatting on the floor, the man looked up at you with pleading eyes, not wanting the kittens to be taken from him. you couldn't help the smile from spreading across your face at his childish expression, like a boy who's favourite toy was being taken away. "you can stay with mum, if you'd like." you offered, preparing a transfer box to place the kittens in.
"where will she go?" he asked quietly, watching as you picked up the tiny kittens to place them on a soft blanket in the box. you rolled your head to the side, wondering if it was too direct to ask what you were thinking. "well, i'll keep her here as long as i can. the policy is that we need to let her go back to where she was found, though." you spoke slowly, examining his face as he pouted at your words. "unless, someone can take her in." you added coyly, not breaking eye contact.
his eyes widened, realisation washing over his features. "i mean, if daisy is okay with it i-" he paused, realising how he sounded. "what about the kittens?" he asked. you sighed, looking over their wriggling forms. "they'll go to a family with a wet nurse. it's an emergency foster situation, the best we could do. we'll see how they take." you explained slowly, attempting to soothe your client just as much as yourself.
"could we introduce them?" he stood from his squatting position, his impressive height catching you off guard as he suddenly towered over you. if his face wasn't so soft and sweet, you might have been intimidated.
you nodded, eyes filled with delight as hope swelled in your chest. "i just have to cover the hand off for these babies, make sure the wet nurse takes to them." you explained, raising the box with the kittens to your face. "and then we can do just that. do you mind staying for a little bit? i know it's late.". he shook his head at you, a smile forming on his lips as he waved off your comments.
"i don't mind," he spoke softly, glancing down to the mother sleeping softly on the pile of blankets that you'd set down for her. "just wish we could keep them all together." he mumbled as you exited, your heart sinking with guilt ever so slightly.
the hand-off had gone smoothly, the kitten's foster family had already brought along some warm water bottles and cat milk for the babies along with the wet nurse, so you were able to send them off confidently. however, you did advise them to come back every few weeks to track their progress, for entirely professional reasons of course. you'd hoped the kittens would be reunited with their mother soon, if all went well.
your gaze kept getting caught on daisy's dad in the waiting room, though. in fact, you'd caught him staring at you a handful of times as you went over the documentation with your other clients, explaining how to introduce their older foster cats to the new kittens at home.
you dismissed it as impatience or just an eagerness to introduce daisy to the mother cat, but regardless, a gentle wave of butterflies erupted every time you caught his glistening, brown eyes on you. in a lot of ways, he was quite feline-like himself. quietly, patiently watching as you went about your tasks.
you slapped your hands on your thighs and mouthed an 'okay' to yourself, exhaustion beginning to get the best of you as you reached hour 10 of your shift. truthfully, you were meant to leave a few hours ago, but you'd wanted to wait until the kittens were handed off safely before leaving the overnight vet technician in charge.
for your cat-loving client though, you would happily stay back. especially if it meant the stray mother cat would be going to a comfortable home tonight. "ready?" you asked from across the waiting room. his ears perked up and he swiftly stood up, it seemed like you'd snapped him out of a daydream even though he was looking right at you.
he nodded, picking up daisy in her carrier and bringing her into the room with the unnamed stray. "daisy, this is your new friend." he whispered to his cat as he set the cage down in front of the sleeping mother. i guess he's already made his mind up, you thought to yourself. you'd advised to keep the carrier door closed incase things went sour, but as daisy tentatively approached the cage door, you heard a soft mewl that was anything but threatening.
the stray picked her head up at the noise, suddenly alert. she still looked quite frazzled after giving birth to three babies in quick succession but she was still curious about the caged cat, approaching the carrier slowly and cautiously before sitting down right in front of the door.
your attention was caught by a muted, excited noise of adoration coming from daisy's carer, once against catching you off guard. "so far, so good." you spoke, keeping your eyes on his delighted face, his eyes forming two crescents as the stray let out an inquisitive mrrp at the older street-cat.
"i think they like each other," he said, relieved. you wondered if he had some telepathic link with cats that you weren't able to tap into, despite your degree in veterinary science. "should we let daisy out?" he turned to you excitedly. you nodded and he eagerly released the carrier's latch, swinging it open as the stray stepped aside to peer into the cage.
the two of you watched, side by side, as daisy inched out of her carrier, sniffing at the stray tentatively. "will you be open over the holidays?" he asked you quietly, eyes not drifting away from the two cats. "ah, yes. if anything goes wrong, if you take her, i'll be working." you replied softly.
"it would be cruel for her to be alone at this time of year." he mumbled to himself. it seemed like he was already sold, mentally planning his life with his new companion. suppressing the sad wave of feeling that bubbled to the surface after realising that you would likely be the only one in the room alone on the holidays, you took a deep breath and centred your thoughts.
"i can let you borrow some supplies and a carrier from the clinic if you'd like to take her tonight." you offered, glancing up at his smitten expression as the cats brushed their faces against each other affectionately. maybe they'd known each other in another life, you wondered. he accepted and you'd helped him load everything into his car, shivering as the icy winds swept past your face and crept under your clothes. he hesitated before ducking into his car, unspoken words at the tip of his tongue before simply smiling his farewell and driving off into the night.
-
quite frankly, you hadn't been able to keep him off your mind. the phone would ring and you would eavesdrop as the receptionist took the client's name, hoping that it would be him. luckily, despite it being christmas night, it had been busy- the clinic hardly ever empty throughout your shift, allowing you to focus on other things besides him and his polite smile before he'd left with daisy and the stray that night.
you were mere moments from clocking out, handover to the overnight vet had gone well and you were just saying your goodbyes to the receptionist when the door bell rang out, catching your attention. your stomach tied in knots when you saw him- lips pink and puffy from the cruel winds that had been sweeping through the city. "hi," he greeted you as you stood, stunned at the sight of him, the length of his wavy hair tucked into a cashmere scarf.
"i wasn't sure you'd still be here," he mumbled, shuffling his shoes over the doormat to get rid of any traces of snow that had followed him in. "i was just about to leave- is everything okay?" you asked, regaining your composure. your eyes landed on the carried resting underneath his arm, empty. "just wanted to return this." he walked closer to you and you felt the bubbling of butterflies begin to take hold in your stomach. he moved like a model, collected and composed. part of you wondered if that was his job, or if he was a famous movie star that you'd been too ignorant to know of.
you took the carrier from him, nodding your thanks and placed it on the receptionist's desk, turning to face him once again. you couldn't look away from his face, silently grateful for the harsh weather that had made his cheeks along with the tip of his nose shiny and pink. "the cats are doing great, they're already sleeping together." he added, lingering in front of you. his tone was quiet enough that the receptionist couldn't make out his words, and you wondered what the point of keeping your conversation so private was.
"that's good to hear, i'm glad the mum isn't too distressed without her kittens." you replied, sincerely relieved. "have you picked a name?". he hummed, shifting his weight between his feet and shook his head. "not yet, i didn't want to get too attached in case..." his voice trailed off, you nodded in understanding.
"actually," he paused and glanced at your eyes sheepishly. the pale pink hue on his cheeks began to grow into a warmer red blush. "i was wondering if you were free- if you'd like to come and see them.". your eyes widened and you noticed your heart skipping a beat. "no pressure, of course- i mean, it's christmas so i understand if you-"
"that'd be nice, mister min." you interrupted him, too excited to wait for him to finish his sentence. "yoongi," he corrected softly, a delighted spark in his eye. "you can call me by my name.".
as you walked out of the clinic together, you were overcome by the cold, snow falling onto your eyelashes as you made your way to his car. you felt the warmth of his hand envelop your palm, a soft and comforting touch that made your heart swell. glancing down, you squeezed his hand, eyes catching the smile that had spread across his lips.
suddenly, you felt the cold around you turn to warmth, your beating heart aflame with the knowledge that now, you wouldn't be alone on christmas.
