medication doesn't make all schizophrenia symptoms go away.
Just because we take an antipsychotic medication, it doesn’t mean all our symptoms disappear. Schizophrenia consists of positive and negative symptoms:
Positive symptoms are experiences or behaviours that the condition adds to your life, for example: auditory and visual hallucinations or delusions.
Negative symptoms are experiences or behaviours that the condition takes away from your life, for example: lack of motivation and emotion, flat affect (not showing emotions) and social withdrawal.
These symptoms can be very difficult to live with and very debilitating. The right medication can help us to recover some control, but the positive and negative symptoms don’t all just ‘go away’.

i think i want to make some art about this actually. i think that would help me feel a little more settled about the angels right now if i could get them onto a page + let them know that i see them and that it's okay if they're angry and that i will put that onto a page for them and there will be proof and they will be believed. so that they can quiet down a bit and i can feel less overstimulated in the heat.

people experiencing a delusion can still be skeptical or partially aware that what they believe isn’t accurate / isn’t true
#Like. I’ll be delusional and think the bathroom has invisible men in it waiting to kill me (actual delusion ive experienced)#Doesn’t mean I’m not skeptical that it’s.not true#We as humans are going to question things. Psychotic people are still humans.#Also#don’t take this as “then why are they delusional if they can just deny it and move on” bc that’s. Clearly not what I m#Meant. Like. Just because I’m aware that carrots are healthy#I’ve eaten them in the past and my mom likes carrots#doesn’t mean I can eat carrots. I still will cry and have a meltdown because I think I’m going to die and that all carrots are#Poison. Psychosis is complex#and so are humans#Psychosis#Psychotic#Actually psychotic#Op doesn’t have schizophrenia#Psychosis posting

when i was at the mental hospital they told me i was developing psychosis. which is crazy like. my whole life i thought psychic people weren’t real, i didn’t know you could get medically diagnosed with that. guess i should get one of those crystal balls.

It can also create a kind of echo chamber where the thing(s) that might’ve triggered the initial episode ALSO trigger panic afterward. People take for granted how much they can trust themselves. Especially if you don’t remember the episode or what caused it, you have to come to terms with having a part of your life completely locked away.
I think it'd be neat if during discussions about schizophrenia and psychosis more people made a point to mention how psychotic episodes themselves can be deeply traumatizing. because they sure can. experiencing a break from reality like that is traumatizing. delusions, even though they aren't real, are traumatizing. believing you're being prosecuted by God himself and not knowing how to cope with that just to later realize none of it was real is probably traumatizing. experiencing frightening hallucinations can be traumatizing. people talk about how psychotics suffer from their disorder but let's talk about why we do. and I haven't even mentioned the inherent trauma of living with a stigmatized disorder in a world where psychotics are despised and shunned and kicked out of homes. lets not forget that one.

i found out i had psychosis in august and my brain hasn’t been doing well in the last 36 hours for Obvious Reasons - I’m not American but i have friends down there. If anyone wants to share strategies for coping/managing one’s thoughts and symptoms during times like this, i would love to hear from all of you. This can be like a masterpost for it

boy it would be nice to be able to google something related to personality disorders, psychosis, intellectual disabilities, autism, DID/OSDD, etcetera without finding majority articles that are like “how to deal with a person with X” “how to cope with your child with X” “how to spot someone faking X” “can people with X be cured?”
