Delving into the Depths of Guilt and Redemption: A Review of "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" is a towering masterpiece of Russian literature that delves deep into the complexities of guilt, morality, and the human psyche. Set in 19th-century St. Petersburg, this novel follows the story of Rodion Raskolnikov, a destitute ex-student who commits a heinous crime in pursuit of his radical theory of moral superiority. As the consequences of his actions unfold, Raskolnikov is consumed by guilt and plagued by existential torment, leading him on a harrowing journey of self-discovery and redemption.
At the heart of "Crime and Punishment" lies Dostoevsky's exploration of the human condition and the nature of morality. Through Raskolnikov's internal struggles and philosophical musings, the novel grapples with timeless questions about the nature of good and evil, the existence of God, and the moral responsibility of individuals in society. Dostoevsky's probing examination of these themes invites readers to confront their own ethical beliefs and challenges them to consider the consequences of their actions.
One of the most compelling aspects of "Crime and Punishment" is its richly drawn characters, each of whom embodies different facets of the human experience. From the tormented Raskolnikov to the virtuous Sonia, the cunning Porfiry Petrovich to the morally ambiguous Svidrigailov, Dostoevsky populates his novel with a diverse cast of characters who grapple with their own inner demons and external pressures. Through their interactions and conflicts, the novel offers a multifaceted portrait of Russian society, highlighting the complexities of human nature and the moral dilemmas faced by individuals in a rapidly changing world.
Moreover, "Crime and Punishment" is distinguished by its masterful narrative structure and psychological depth. Dostoevsky's skillful use of foreshadowing, symbolism, and psychological insight creates a sense of suspense and tension that keeps readers engaged from beginning to end. As Raskolnikov's mental state unravels and his guilt consumes him, the novel plunges deeper into the darkest recesses of the human soul, exploring the depths of despair and the possibility of redemption.
In addition to its thematic depth and narrative complexity, "Crime and Punishment" is also a searing critique of social injustice and moral hypocrisy. Through Raskolnikov's encounters with poverty, crime, and exploitation, Dostoevsky exposes the harsh realities of life in 19th-century Russia and calls attention to the systemic injustices that perpetuate human suffering. By shining a light on the plight of the marginalized and downtrodden, the novel challenges readers to confront the inequities of society and strive for a more just and compassionate world.
In conclusion, "Crime and Punishment" is a literary masterpiece that continues to captivate and resonate with readers around the world. With its probing exploration of guilt and redemption, its richly drawn characters, and its searing critique of society, Dostoevsky's novel offers profound insights into the human condition and the moral dilemmas that confront us all. As relevant today as it was upon its publication, "Crime and Punishment" remains a timeless classic that stands as a testament to the enduring power of great literature.
Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" is available in Amazon in paperback 22.99$ and hardcover 28.99$ editions.

I began researching book publication today for my fictional novel and I believe I've decided to go through Amazon. I'm debating whether I should plan to hire editors and marketers, one or the other, or maybe neither....
If anyone has any advice or experience in this department, I'm very new to it all and would appreciate it!
(My novel is a psychological novel with themes of sci-fi and romance if that helps)

Father in My Name (Novel): Available as a softcover, hardcover, and kindle book!
Clark is on the verge of dropping out. While his mother still romanticizes her hippie youth, his father has burned out as a radical. When he isn't avoiding his parents, Clark likes to hide out with his outcast girlfriend on the outskirts of town. In a world that has rejected him, she's the only one who cares.
It's the '90s and Clark still doesn't know the meaning of his life. Maybe he never will. Instead of studying for his exams, he hangs out in an abandoned lot and listens to punk music. Rather than dressing up for prom, he climbs onto his roof and gazes at the stars. Yet at Emerson High, where only reputation matters, he just wants to make a name for himself. More than anything, he wants to be free.
Father in My Name is a dark satire about growing up in America.
It's a coming-of-age story for the misunderstood.
More importantly, it is about love. It is about death.
Content Warning: This book contains mature themes that may be distressing to some readers.

What is it to read an inconsistent man's mind...
Asamardhuni jeeva yatra
Hii all,,
Yes,as this is gonna be my first Blog u might not find anything or something useful in this read, which I can't help tho.And also ignore as many errors u could .I wanted to start personal Blogging coz I need something to let me say whatever I'm shit thinking and to find my niche which probably I can't find in this galaxy..
So, this will be regarding my recent read `Asamardhuni Jeeeva yatra` written by Gopichand. I have started reading some books lately not a good number, but yes. I came to know this from an insta page saying this book can haunt you.
As I would love to know new genres, this is the first telugu psychological novel. Which means most of the story happens in the mind of the protagonist.
As after knowing about the book,I ordered it the next day as I have never read a proper telugu novel yet.
At the start of the book,Sitaramrao's father on his deathbed, asks his son to maintain the family's honour as passes away.He easily believes everyone around him initially and goes nuts, loses his job and wealth. And also who is curious about to know everything and does nothing about it because anything curated him . As the saying A idel mind is a Devil's workshop, he starts to overthink and can't control his doings.
as he perceives the social life, community and international affairs falsely,he fails as a person and becomes A well knowledgeable idiot.
And this book really made me think like his consciousness and in the meantime I was also digging wikipedia for some other info. which I do whenever I get interested over some other thing(probably will cover this in next blog,if think to write about it).And made me something which is not me usually and also had an argument at home. And they really thought I having stress over balancing over work and career lately and advised to take care of my mental stress by meditation.
And in this read I have noted following which I really made me entertain for knowing these: All these things will be discussed to Sittharam rao by Ramayya in the story..
* About how we humans are evolving over a period of time. (Pashu dasha, Aadhathmika dasha and Bhothika dhasha). Society does contain all three kinds of people and habitat together and developing over with cultures, theories(siddantham) and philosophies we have.
*We can't say old theories are wrong, but we are learning through experiences.
*And we cannot control over the thinking abilities and capabilities of various societies, nature and not even ourselves. We can't control over what we should be thinking...
*Life has come into existence for no purpose as even nature. But we mistakenly come with the thinking ability. Nature has not set an inspiration to achieve, but we do live with it.
If u are till here, you should comment something upon this so called blog for me..

Word List: Psychology
more psychological concepts as reference for your poem/story
Absent grief - a form of complicated grief in which a person shows no, or only a few, signs of distress about the death of a loved one. This pattern of grief is thought to be an impaired response resulting from denial or avoidance of the emotional realities of the loss.
Being love - (or B-love) in Abraham Maslow’s humanistic psychology, a form of love characterized by mutuality, genuine concern for another’s welfare and pleasure, and reduced dependency, selfishness, and jealousy. B-love is one of the qualities Maslow ascribes to self-actualizers.
Cyclopean eye - a theoretical eye, located on the midline between the real eyes, that has access to the functions of both eyes and is used in descriptions of space perception and eye movements.
Dream ego - in the analytic psychology of Carl Jung, a fragment of the conscious ego that is active during the dream state.
Epiphany - a sudden perception of the essential nature of oneself, others, or reality.
Family mythology - the shared stories, norms, and beliefs within a family system. The mythology can be used to deny trauma or pathology within the family or to ascribe meaning to events in ways that suggest their inevitability or importance.
Guilt culture - a trend or organizing principle in a society characterized by the use of guilt to promote socially acceptable behavior. Guilt cultures emphasize both self-control in the face of temptation and self-initiated responsibility for one’s actions if transgressions should occur.
Hedonic treadmill - a metaphor for a hypothesis proposing that people’s happiness tends to return to a preexisting baseline level after positive or negative life events have occurred. According to this concept, positive and negative events may produce short-term shifts in mood, but these shifts tend to erode in a relatively brief period of time. This process of adaptation is thought to be responsible for the persistence of mood states over time, often in the face of considerable efforts to change them. Although there is good evidence for this hypothesis, research has demonstrated that people do not always return to baseline after the occurrence of mood-changing events.
Jactitation - (or jactation) extreme restlessness marked by frequent movements and tossing about.
Leaving the field - the act of removing oneself from a situation when confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, insoluble conflicts, or intensely frustrating problems. It may involve physical withdrawal, escape into psychogenic illness, or some other behavior, such as distraction or changing the subject during a conversation.

DEMO ✝ BACK-UP ACCOUNT
Wealth. Power. Death.
The Ballad of the Young Gods is a dark academia interactive fiction story, with dark fantasy and psychological thriller themes. Some of the romances also contain tropes and storylines which may be disturbing to some readers.
It is based on media like “Ninth House” by Leigh Bardugo, “The Secret History” by Donna Tart, “Masters of Death” by Olivie Blake, and SYFY’s “Deadly Class”.
It is rated 18+ for depictions of swearing, sexual themes, violence, and death.
Getting into an Ivy League school is a dream that thousands of American students nurse from a young age. Luckily for you, that dream is your reality. Four years of continuous hard work and pressure have made you a proud freshman at Yale University. And as if that wasn’t enough, you have been handpicked to attend Rathore College, whose selection process is revered across all the nation’s top educational institutions. But you should’ve known this stroke of luck came with a catch.
Yale is a crucible of power, where secret societies wield arcane magic and the dead are far from silent. The illustrious House of Styx wants you and this is a situation that not even your money can get you out of.
They are powerful, elite, and most of all, controlling beyond recognition. They are also the heart of the eight secret societies that attach themselves to Yale. From the White House to Hollywood’s most acclaimed stars, their influence reaches farther than anyone can dare to imagine.
A sinister conspiracy brews under Styx’s watchful gaze, one that threatens to unravel the fragile balance between the living and the dead. But in a graveyard of secrets, you and your accomplices are the ones with the shovels. You’re now in a world where the past is never truly dead, and the lines between life and death blur with each passing day.
But some secrets are better left buried, and some prophecies are destined to drag you to hell.
Cédric Armand Lacroix / Céline Armelle Lacroix (M/F)
Vindictive. Conniving. Ruthless.
As the heir to the Lacroix fortune, C is every bit as arrogant as their bloodline demands them to be. Even after the messy divorce of their parents which further led to their disownment by their father, Alain Lacroix, they refuse to give up on their dignity. They’ve vowed to destroy him one day and take what’s rightful theirs, brick by brick. The world bent to C’s whims, what money couldn't buy them, those pale green eyes probably did.
There is nothing that they can’t have, especially if they set their mind to that. That is until you came along and stayed one step ahead of them every time in everything that mattered. It wasn’t just the fortune or the legacy at stake; it was the bruising of their pride, the constant reminder that someone—anyone—could outmaneuver them. But beneath the layers of resentment and anger, there’s something more—something darker, even more dangerous.
An obsession takes root, one that blurs the line between hatred and fascination. And they vow to spend their whole life despising you for everything.
Romance trope: Enemies / Academic Rivals to Lovers.
Vance Kasper Næsholm / Vanessa Karina Næsholm (M/F)
Pious. Haunted. Disillusioned.
Raised under the oppressive influence of a rigid, fire-and-brimstone faith in a Danish Catholic orphanage, they were taught to see demons in every shadow and sin in every touch. Forever haunted by the visions provided by a wrathful God they can neither fully grasp their mind around nor escape from, their only reprieve came on the day they got adopted at the age of six and diagnosed with schizophrenia. But the truth of their ‘psychosis’ may be far more sinister than any medical diagnosis could account for.
As the tides become even stormier and their medications become ineffective when they arrive at Yale, all V can do is hold on to the last threads of control over their lives. Your first meeting almost makes them teeter over the edge.
Now that they’re your roommate, they’re bound to you by fate or folly, but whether they’ll be a stable ally remains to be seen.
Romance trope: Roommate Romance.
Wilhelm Johann Ostendorf / Wilhelmine Johanna Ostendorf (M/F)
Exhausted. Abandoned. Lost.
What does the world think of you when you’re a product of brilliance and neglect at the same time? With an Oscar-winning filmmaker for a father and a mother ensconced on the American board of directors at the Louvre, their pedigree is undeniable, yet it is a legacy more hollow than it appears. While their parents sculpted their careers into masterpieces and amassed accolades, they left W to be raised by their paternal aunt and uncle. A sizeable trust fund and periodic checks served as their parents’ only gestures of care, a shallow substitute for the love and attention their only child so desperately craved.
The only times they had felt more than someone who was deeply unlovable were the summers you spent on rusty swingsets and fast bicycles with training wheels. But the swingsets have long been dismantled, and the bicycles have been traded for cars.
The only questions remain—are you the same kid who saw them, really saw them, beyond the reality of being unwanted and the suffocating looks filled with pity that came with their name? Or will this reunion only serve to confirm their deepest fear—that they are, and always have been, truly alone?
Romance trope: Forgotten Childhood Friends to Lovers.
Dumitru Constantin Diaconu / Dumitra Constantina Diaconu (M/F)
Charismatic. Reckless. Guarded.
D’s name is the one that comes up in almost every conversation about Yale’s wildest parties. A natural-born rockstar charmer with a magnetic presence, they effortlessly draw people into their orbit, collecting hearts and bodies with the ease of someone who’s always been in the center of the gold rush. Despite the countless admirers and the trail of broken hearts left in their wake, you’ll always find them with a Marlboro between their lips and a new person in their arms to warm their bed at night. Their smile is a promise, and their laughter a siren call. In the haze of flashing lights and the thrum of bass that pulses through the walls, they are a heartbreaker in every sense of the word.
Feelings are a complication they don’t allow, a line they never cross. They’ve perfected the art of detachment, of keeping their connections strictly no-strings, because to let someone in would be to risk the vulnerability they’ve long since sworn off.
Will you be the only person they'd let peel back the barbed wire surrounding their heart? Or will you be left with nothing but the faint scent of cinnamon and a tale that wasn't meant to be?
Romance trope: Friends with Benefits / Sex First, Feelings Later. [You will only be able to unlock their romance route through a hookup.]
Maxwell Edmund Whitlock-Singh / Maxine Edythe Whitlock-Singh (M/F)
Duty-bound. Noble. Untouchable.
Politeness and decorum are second nature to M. They are the embodiment of manners, a living testament to the art of subtlety in a world where spectacle often trumps substance. They are the sort of person who commands attention without seeking it, a product of both royal blood and rigorous self-discipline. Dubbed the “Paragon of Styx,” M is a modern Plato, someone who finds as much solace in philosophical debates as in the classical texts they’ve devoured in multiple languages. As the second-born child of the Crown Princess of Wales, they have always understood that their life would be one of service with every action scrutinized, and every word weighed.
Their intellect is vast, but it is their passion for the esoteric that sets them apart. For all their convictions, there is a restlessness within M that even they cannot fully articulate. It is the paradox of their existence—a life of privilege that feels at times like a gilded cage, a role that demands both reverence and obedience. Indeed, heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Will you make them realize that life is more than duties and expectations? Or will you become yet another figure in the background, another reminder of the golden cage they were born into?
Romance trope: Forbidden Royal Romance / Secret Relationship.
Step into the shadows as the wealthy heir apparent to a billion-dollar industry who is just starting at Yale University as a freshman.
Be a part of Yale’s most enigmatic secret society, the House of Styx.
Fully customize your character including: pronouns, gender, physical appearance, personality, sexuality, and more.
Romance 1 out of 5 love interests (all of them are gender-selectable).
Study forbidden knowledge, practice dark magic, and try not to fail at your actual coursework.
Test your mind, body, and soul in rituals that blur the line between reality and nightmare.
Learn about the secrets that your mother took to her grave. Is she really the same woman you remember so fondly from your childhood?
Will you rise to navigate the sinister plans brewing under the nose of the House? Or will your actions drag you and your companions to the fiery depths of Hell.

la danse macabre
Hello everyone! I am Meg (she/her) and I am the author of The House of Evenmoor.
The House of Evenmoor is a work-in-progress interactive CYOA novel with mystery, horror, and psychological thriller/horror themes.
It is inspired greatly by the "classic" gothic literature of Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and H.P. Lovecraft, among others, as well as media such as Crimson Peak.
Please note that this story may contain certain elements, storylines, events, and topics that may be triggering to some readers. Reader discretion is advised. A full list will be available before reading.
Rated 18+ for language, death, murder, gore, etc.
You play an amnesiac who wakes up to find themselves locked in an 18th century manor belonging to the mysterious Evenmoor family. You find that there are 11 other people who are in the same situation you find yourself in. You remember nothing about yourself, except for a name, which you take on as your own.
With little to no memory between all of you and an excruciating headache that occurs when you try to remember, you all try to search around the house to find an exit. The doors and windows are all bolted shut and the glass panes are unbreakable. Outside is a thick wall of dense fog. You're not even able to tell if it's night or day, much less where you are.
As you investigate around the house, you start to uncover clues that reveal the real secrets behind the house and the Evenmoors. But it's not that simple as you and your companions are being actively hunted by a strange supernatural force and entity. As members of your group are picked off, more of the manor is slowly revealed and, while being investigated, more pieces of lost memories come back to you and others, as well as the knowledge of how to potentially leave the manor.
Will you be able to escape with your group unscathed and with your memories or will you become yet another permanent member of the House of Evenmoor?
Play as a male or female. Choose to be straight, gay, bisexual, or even asexual.
Customize your character including your name, appearance, and personality.
Romance 1 of 6 options or none at all.
Bond with the 11 other people trapped in the house with you and find out their stories.
Investigate the mysterious Evenmoor House. Uncover long lost clues and dark secrets.
Discover your long-lost memories and who you are.
Avoid catching the attention of the mysterious supernatural force or the strange entities that reside within the house.
Figure out the truth behind the Evermoors and their strange house.
Main Character - The Amnesiac Truthseeker (he/him) or (she/her)
This is you. You are 25 years old. You remember the least amount of your life before this. You are determined to uncover the truth of the manor and escape. You awake in and are staying in Room Number 6.
Jasper - The Reflective Guardian (he/him)

He often breaks up arguments in the house and seems to have combat experience. He is 27 years old. He is staying in Room Number 1. Romance Option
Vina - The Sensitive Overseer (she/her)

Edmund - The Aspiring Detective (he/him)

Despite his conflicting personality, he is actually rather observant and is an adept investigator. He is 26 years old. He is staying in Room Number 3. Romance Option
Beatrice - The Lovelorn Poet (she/her)

Laurel is the surprisingly cheerful and bubbly person in the group. She is very open about what she remembers and what she doesn't. She's also a very friendly person, in general. She appears to have a decent amount of general knowledge. She is 24 years old. She is staying in Room Number 7. Romance Option
Alden - The Fateful Author (they/them)
Alden is the quiet but quick-witted person of the group. They don't speak much, but are happy to assist. They have a journal that they use to take notes in while they're researching. They're also usually found in the library. They are 29 years old. They are staying in Room Number 8.
Ian - The Expert Weaver (he/him)
Ian is the unspoken but de facto leader of the group. He is calm and level-headed. He does his best to keep everyone alive and well. He tends to spend his time near Vina. He appears to have decent experience with textiles and related subjects. He is 30 years old. He is staying in Room Number 9.
Willa - The Skeptic Historian (she/her)
Willa is the resident skeptic of the group. She is very book smart and has a pretty hard time believing in the stranger experiences in the group. She is very honest and is perhaps a bit too blunt. She tends to get into arguments too. She is 25 years old. She is staying in Room Number 10. Romance Option.
Pearl - The Romantic Heiress (she/her)
Pearl is the youngest person in the group and it shows. She's very idealistic and hopeful. She doesn't have many relevant skills or experience and is rather impulsive. She's also very open with what she remembers from before. She is 21 years old. She is staying in Room Number 11.
Cecill - The Tortured Artist (they/them)
Cecill is the prickly and cold person in the group. They're dramatic and aren't very helpful around the house. They spend a surprising amount of time with Beatrice. They also seem to have some kind of connection to the supernatural energies. They are 24 years old. They are staying in Room Number 12. Romance Option

the thing is i don't care about how hard it must be for the hotd writers to adapt from book to screen with budget and time limitations (even though i am historically sympathetic enough to these difficulties and i do understand the need to make changes to fit the story in a different medium)
but what i see as understandable excuses would be shoddy cgi or costumes and less impactful action scenes or even fewer action scenes/battles. which we already got anyway, the only battle (rook's rest) is humdrum and rather spiritless. to a certain extent, i can even excuse cutting out characters or merging them or simplifying storylines.
be that as it may, the fact of the matter is that, even the scenes which should have cost the least amount of money in this whole production, i.e. the sitting-around-in-rooms-talking genre of scenes for which GoT became famous, SUCK. the politics in this show are non-existent. the characters' motivations are so wishy-washy to the point of parody. the character arcs look like they were settled via a game of russian roulette. the S2 version of characters doesn't make sense as a progression of their own S1 canon.
and this has nothing to do with money OR time constraints. it plainly only has to do with bad writing. a talented writer can absolutely have a canon-divergent vision and an understandable desire to adapt their own vision. but they have to recognise if they have the TIME or the BUDGET to bring that canon-divergent vision to life, if they can sufficiently commit to integrating those changes in a way that feels organic to the characters. IF NOT, THEN DON'T DO IT.
i get it if they're big rhaenicent stans or if they really, really like this version of alicent that lives in their heards, the one that would ditch her kids in favour of rhaenyra or if they're so enamoured by the idea of heroic rhaenyra (and that's just scratching the surface when it comes to all the points the show fumbled). but if they don't and can't fit those changes in a way that doesn't destroy the logic of the narrative, in a way that doesn't leave other characters hanging dry with no motivation left to carry out the plot points they have to hit, they should have had the maturity to drop those ideas and settle on something else that could have been easier to film with the resources available.
i said it before and i'll say it again: 1) whether fans are satisfied with the changes made to the source material and 2) whether those changes make sense in the context of the show are two separate issues that apologists sometimes try to merge in other to muddle what the actual problem is. "oh you're just mad because it's not book canon" or "you're mad because your headcanons diverge" or "we had logistics limitations" are not pertinent responses to critiquing the integrity of the show's storyline!
so i hope the writers and executives see all these criticisms and choke because they did a piss-poor job of everything and turned S2 into a goddamn hack operation
#if you want to adapt your own FB fanfiction you better make damn sure you can fit in your scripts#and unfortunately for them show!alicent would need a whole damn novel dedicated solely to dissecting her psychology in order for her to mak#any sense or to resemble the behaviour of a human person#you don't have a wholeass novel at your disposal? you only have 8 to 10 episodes? then don't do it!#house of the dragon#hotd s2#hotd#grrm#hbo max
