President Jimmy Carter Putting His Favorite Wrestler, Mr.Wrestling II In A Headlock With Both Men Smiling At The Camera , 1976

The story behind this photo is an interesting one. Jimmy Carter and his mother , Lillian, were huge fans of professional wrestling and considered Mr.Wrestling II to be their favorite. As Carter was the Governor of Georgia and running for President of The United States in 1976 , Mr.Wrestling II became one of his biggest supporters. However , Carter would invite him to his Inauguration in 1977. Therefore , Mr.Wrestling II would have to decline due to wanting to keep Kayfabe by keeping his mask on and not wanting to reveal his true identity due to his rising popularity with the fans. Thus , if he would’ve went to support President Carter , he would’ve been required to remove his mask via the Secret Service. Mr. Wrestling II would continue to be a family friend of the Carter family by having private get togethers with them and having Lillian at shows.

My Final Thoughts:

President Jimmy Carter passed away at the age of 100 yesterday. Finding out that he was a huge wrestling fan amazed me as I was doing my research. President Carter lived a great life and will always be remembered. My condolences are with the Carter family and his friends .
