So I made a Final Fantasy discord server so I could start to collect art (mostly for my favorite ships but whatever), and I can’t believe how much I forgot I had feelings for some of these characters 🥲! Like Rosa/Cecil, Rosa/Kain, Rosa/Kain/Cecil!? I forgot how much I love them! And it’s sad there’s not like a lot of new content for them since they’re an older game! And omg Serah/Noel!? I FORGOT my love of them! But also I love Serah/Snow! And I can’t forget Luna/Nyx. Anyway, I’m having final fantasy ships overload and I’m just so happy but also sad bc why aren’t these ships more popular 😭 I just wanna talk about them all day now, especially since 16 is about to consume my brain

“You can’t do this!!” Predictably, all those bound by shadows began to struggle against them. “You have no right to this to us! We are the ones who guide this family! No one will stand for this!”

Cecil couldn’t hold back his snort at that. “Are you so sure? Because the way I see it... doesn’t look like you have a lot of back-up, y’know.”

And it was true. None of the unbound witches were making any sort of move to intervene or protest, nervous as they seemed. Aside from the struggling, it was near silent in the courtyard.

“Let’s see... I’ll take a quick survey, then.” Scanning the crowd, Cecil’s eyes soon found their target. “Ah! Noel, there you are! With me, please.”

The crowd of witches seemed to part for Noel, as the young witch squeaked, and then nervously made his way to the front, his dark eyes cast down.

“Y-yes, m-milord...?”

Cecil smiled, kneeling down to Noel’s height--the kid was pretty short--ignoring the gasps of the crowd at seeing a god kneel. “How old are you, kid?”

“Sixteen...”

“Mm. Any siblings?”

“One, m-my sister... she’s four.”

“Yeah? I bet you’re a great big brother~...” Cecil hummed. “Tell me, what’s your magic like?”

Noel looked up then, confused. “M-my magic? It’s... it’s the family magic, like everyone--”

“I wasn’t talking about everyone’s. I was talking about yours.” Cecil’s eyes briefly flashed a brilliant blue, and his tone lowered to a whisper. “You’ve got fire magic with your dark magic, don’t you? No, don’t look at them. Let me guess... they don’t let you practice, so you do it in secret, yeah? Make little flames for your baby sister, so she’ll laugh at the flickers?”

Noel was stunned, and a bit pale, and Cecil just smiled. “It’s what they always do. I know because I was the same way. And that’s why I want to change things. And change starts with them being gone.”

He raised his voice then, so everyone could hear. “So, Noel? Take a good look at the supposed ‘guiding hands’ of the Grimsbane family. You’re so young, and your magic can only grow, and grow... but only when things are different. New. Advancing.”

“Do you want change?”

Noel stared at the bound witches, eyes wide. Swallowing once, he looked back to Cecil, and nodded once. And when he spoke again, he didn’t stutter.

“I do, milord. For me, and my sister, too.”

“Awww, he’s so darling!” Lea chimed with a smile. “Master, I think he’ll grow to be something special~”

“I think so too. Well!” Standing, Cecil turned his gaze back down to the bound elders, placing a hand on Noel’s shoulder. “You’ve heard the voice of the younger generation. You’re no longer needed, it seems~”

Ignoring the resounding protests and renewed struggles of the old witches on death row, Cecil looked to his retainers and nodded. “Take care of them, yeah? I’ve got something else to do.”

“Of course, Master.”

“Noel, go and get everyone your age, yeah?” Cecil asked the teen, grinning. “We’re gonna talk a little about magic, and I’d like to see what you call can do, if you wanna show me~”

And as the sound of brutal executions filled the background, the sound was mostly drowned out by the sound of teenagers and children clamoring and chattering excitedly around Cecil, eager to show off to the god of Night.
