An open letter to President Joe Biden: Free Leonard Peltier
By Stephen Millies
Mr. President, If you can pardon your son, why can’t you free the Indigenous political prisoner Leonard Peltier?
The 80-year-old man, a leader of the American Indian Movement, has been imprisoned for 48 years. He suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, and a heart condition.
The FBI framed Leonard Peltier in retaliation for the historic 1973 occupation of Wounded Knee. Three years of violence followed this courageous stand for Indigenous rights, with over 60 AIM members and supporters murdered. Despite a large FBI presence, nothing was done to stop these murders and even more numerous assaults.

Former Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Conahan, who gained notoriety for wrongfully imprisoning juveniles in the Kids-for-Cash scandal, is one of nearly 1,500 inmates whose sentences President Joe Biden commuted Thursday as his term in office comes to a close.
Conahan, 72, was convicted along with former judge Mark A. Ciavarella Jr., 74, of funneling juvenile defendants to two private, for-profit detention centers in exchange for $2.1 million in kickbacks.
Conahan pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges and was sentenced in 2011 to 17½ years in prison. However, he petitioned the courts for a “compassionate release” during the COVID-19 pandemic, writing that he was “in grave danger of not only contracting the virus, but of dying from the virus.”

In 2011, Conahan and another judge were convicted for wrongly sending juveniles to for-profit detention centers in exchange for millions of dollars in illegal kickbacks. (4,000 juvenile convictions were later thrown out after the “Kids for Cash” scheme was exposed.) Conahan’s 17-year prison sentence was due to end in 2026, and he had been serving that sentence under home confinement since 2020. Sandy Fonzo, whose son died by suicide after being sent to a juvenile detention center, called Biden’s commutation “deeply painful” in a statement. Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro publicly criticized Biden, as well. “I do feel strongly that President Biden got it absolutely wrong and created a lot of pain here in northeastern Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said. “Conahan deserves to be behind bars, not walking as a free man.”
Sandy Fonzo, who famously confronted Ciavarella outside federal court over the suicide of her son after he was placed in juvenile detention, called the development “deeply painful.”
“I am shocked and I am hurt,” Fonzo said in a statement. “Conahan’s actions destroyed families, including mine, and my son‘s death is a tragic reminder of the consequences of his abuse of power. This pardon feels like an injustice for all of us who still suffer. Right now I am processing and doing the best I can to cope with the pain that this has brought back.”

“Well, you know, the only one that was killed was a beautiful young lady named Ashli Babbitt … shot for no reason whatsoever.” —Donald Trump this week
Just before Christmas, when most of the Leftmedia talkingheads and scribes were bloviating about the possibility that Donald Trump would issue pardons to nonviolent January 6 protesters, Joe Biden issued a record list of 65 pardons and 1,634 clemencies for some very violent criminals.
Biden has now pardoned or granted clemency to more than 8,000 criminals, far more than any president in U.S. history. For context, Trump issued a total of 237 pardons and clemencies in his first term. Biden’s pardons came on the heels of his disgraceful pardon of Hunter Biden, despite his assurances that he would never do so. Of course, Biden will be most remembered for his endless list of lies over the course of his entire life on the taxpayer dole.
The big pardon and clemency giveaway was much like his last-minute presidential medals extravaganza. He awarded trophies mostly to his disreputable political benefactors.
So, what will Trump do with the convictions of nonviolent January 6, 2021, protesters in Washington? More than 1,400 people were charged with federal crimes associated with that protest, most with nonviolent offenses like trespassing. Over 900 people have been convicted. Amid tens of thousands of rally participants outside on the Capitol grounds, there were an estimated 50-75 offenders who committed violence or damaged the Capitol building.

When we say that liberals are fascists what we mean is that Marcellus Williams, an innocent man, will be executed at 6pm tonight despite evidence of his exoneration. Where the victims family and the prosecutor are calling for his release. And millions of people have called and faxed and emailed the republican governor to stop the execution. And what does the governor do? ignore the calls and doubles down on the execution.
But where is the democratic “Black Lives Matter. Of course they do” author of the crime bill to give a presidential pardon? He can’t because it isn’t a federal case. Okay but the supreme court granted the president unlimited power as long as it’s done in official capacity. Send the national guard to Governor Parson’s house.
Where is the Black feminist’s dream ex-prosecutor presidential candidate to campaign against the death sentence and for clemency for Marcellus Williams, an innocent man? That’s right the DNC removed opposition to the death penalty! What good is joy now.
We the people for whom the government works say to free Marcellus Williams and yet one party will happily kill the innocent man and the other party sits on the sideline watching.
Nothing short of a prison break will likely save Marcellus Williams at this late hour. And i want so desperately to be wrong. but according to the historical record this is too much proved

Biden had said on the campaign trail in 2020 that he wanted to end the death penalty but he never did, and now, with Trump coming back into office, it’s likely executions will resume. During his first term, Trump presided over an unprecedented number of federal executions, carried out during the height of the pandemic.

Shockingly, some good news this morning! I always get recommended random news articles on new tabs in Firefox, and this was one of them.
From the article:
"President Biden on Thursday announced he is commuting the prison sentences for nearly 1,500 people and pardoning 39 others in what the White House said was the largest act of clemency in a single day in modern presidential history.
The 1,500 people — whose names were not immediately provided — had been serving long prison sentences that would have been shorter under today's laws and practices. They had been on home confinement since the COVID pandemic and Biden said they had successfully reintegrated into their communities.
The pardons went to people — also unnamed — who had been convicted of nonviolent crimes, including drug offenses, who the White House said had "turned their lives around.""

Ed Pilkington at The Guardian:
Joe Biden has carried out the largest act of presidential clemency on a single day in modern US history, commuting the sentences of almost 1,500 people and pardoning 39 Americans convicted of non-violent crimes. In a statement issued on Thursday, the White House said that Biden’s sweeping act of clemency was designed to “help reunite families, strengthen communities, and reintegrate individuals back into society”. The almost 1,500 commutations ordered by the president all relate to people who were released from prisons and placed in home confinement during the Covid pandemic. Thousands of prisoners were released to their homes as an emergency measure under the Cares Act to prevent the rapid spread of coronavirus through federal prisons. Each individual included in the new commutations had been serving their sentences at home for at least a year and had shown they were reunited with their families and were committed to rehabilitation, the White House said. “These commutation recipients have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities and have shown that they deserve a second chance,” they continued. The commutations come at a time when Republicans in Congress have been pressing to send thousands of federal prisoners on home release back behind bars. Criminal justice reformers have protested that the home release program has been highly successful, with a rate of new offending at a mere fraction of the overall recidivism rate in federal prisons. Under the commutations, the almost 1,500 Americans will retain their convictions but have their sentences reduced. The 39 people pardoned by Biden have had their guilty verdicts wholly erased.
The White House said the 39 were all individuals convicted of non-violent crimes, including drug offenses. Among them were a woman who led emergency response teams during natural disasters; a church deacon who had worked as an addiction and youth counsellor; a doctoral student in molecular biosciences; and a decorated military veteran.
President Joe Biden (D) issues around 1,500 sentence commutations and 39 pardons of non-violent crimes in the largest single-acts of clemency.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is commuting the sentences of roughly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus pandemic and is pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes. It’s the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.
The commutations announced Thursday are for people who have served out home confinement sentences for at least one year after they were released. Prisons were uniquely bad for spreading the virus and some inmates were released in part to stop the spread. At one point, 1 in 5 prisoners had COVID-19, according to a tally kept by The Associated Press.
Biden said he would be taking more steps in the weeks ahead and would continue to review clemency petitions. The second largest single-day act of clemency was by Barack Obama, with 330, shortly before leaving office in 2017.
“America was built on the promise of possibility and second chances,” Biden said in a statement. “As president, I have the great privilege of extending mercy to people who have demonstrated remorse and rehabilitation, restoring opportunity for Americans to participate in daily life and contribute to their communities, and taking steps to remove sentencing disparities for non-violent offenders, especially those convicted of drug offenses.”
The clemency follows a broad pardon for his son Hunter, who was prosecuted for gun and tax crimes. Biden is under pressure from advocacy groups to pardon broad swaths of people, including those on federal death row, before the Trump administration takes over in January. He’s also weighing whether to issue preemptive pardons to those who investigated Trump’s effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and are facing possible retribution when he takes office.
Clemency is the term for the power the president has to pardon, in which a person is relieved of guilt and punishment, or to commute a sentence, which reduces or eliminates the punishment but doesn’t exonerate the wrongdoing. It’s customary for a president to grant mercy at the end of his term, using the power of the office to wipe away records or end prison terms.
Those pardoned Thursday range in age from 36 to 75. About half are men and half are women, and they had been convicted of nonviolent crimes such as drug offenses, fraud or theft and turned their lives around, White House lawyers said. They include a woman who led emergency response teams during natural disasters; a church deacon who has worked as an addiction counselor and youth counselor; a doctoral student in molecular biosciences; and a decorated military veteran.
Louisiana resident Trynitha Fulton, 46, was one of the pardons; she pleaded guilty to participating in a payroll fraud scheme while serving as a New Orleans middle school teacher in the early 2000s. She was sentenced to three years of probation in 2008.
“The pardon gives me a sense of freedom,” Fulton said in a written statement to the AP. “The conviction has served as a mental barrier for me, limiting my ability to live a full life.”
“The pardon gives me inspiration to make more impactful decisions personally and professionally,” she added.
After her conviction, Fulton went on to earn a master’s degree. She helps lead the nonprofit Skyliners-Youth Outreach, which supports New Orleans youth by providing hot meals, clothing, shelter and mental health referrals.
The president had previously issued 122 commutations and 21 other pardons. He’s also broadly pardoned those convicted of use and simple possession of marijuana on federal lands and in the District of Columbia, and pardoned former U.S. service members convicted of violating a now-repealed military ban on consensual gay sex.
Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., and 34 other lawmakers are urging the president to pardon environmental and human rights lawyer Steven Donziger, who was imprisoned or under house arrest for three years because of a contempt of court charge related to his work representing Indigenous farmers in a lawsuit against Chevron.
Others are advocating for Biden to commute the sentences of federal death row prisoners. His attorney general, Merrick Garland, paused federal executions. Biden had said on the campaign trail in 2020 that he wanted to end the death penalty but he never did, and now, with Trump coming back into office, it’s likely executions will resume. During his first term, Trump presided over an unprecedented number of federal executions, carried out during the height of the pandemic.
More clemency grants are coming before Biden leaves office on Jan. 20, but it’s not clear whether he’ll take action to guard against possible prosecution by Trump, an untested use of the power. The president has been taking the idea seriously and has been thinking about it for as much as six months — before the presidential election — but has been concerned about the precedent it would set, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss internal discussions.
But those who received the pardons would have to accept them. New California Sen. Adam Schiff, who was a part of the House committee that investigated the violent Jan. 6 insurrection, said such a pardon from Biden would be “unnecessary,” and that the president shouldn’t be spending his waning days in office worrying about this.
Former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., another target of Trump’s threats, said in a statement this week that his suggestion that she and others be jailed for the investigations “is a continuation of his assault on the rule of law and the foundations of our republic.”
Before pardoning his son, Biden had repeatedly pledged not to do so. He said in a statement explaining his reversal that the prosecution had been poisoned by politics. The decision prompted criminal justice advocates and lawmakers to put additional public pressure on the administration to use that same power for everyday Americans. It wasn’t a very popular move; only about 2 in 10 Americans approved of his decision, according to a poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Joe Biden suddenly pardoning so many people and giving them commutations at the very last minute kinda makes you wonder: if he didn’t pardon his son Hunter, would he have even bothered with these other recent pardons? Please don’t get me wrong, I’m ecstatic for the people who are getting second chances from mass incarceration (let’s not talk about who had a big hand in making mass incarceration a thing), but when and where you plant your flag matters. Why so many people now? Why not earlier, or throughout his presidency? Yes, I know that it is normal for presidents to issue pardons at the tail end of their terms, but this number just screams of a convenient distraction for pardoning Hunter (yeah, yeah, I know that Trump is exponentially worse and will pardon J6 traitors, but he was gonna do that anyway, no matter what Biden did).
Sorry if you’re a liberal sycophant, but EYE am not here to blow sunshine up Biden’s ass. We must hold truth to power. Biden was as disastrous for social justice and democracy as Bill Clinton was, and in fact, history will show that Biden governed as a somewhat “moderate” conservative Republican, similar to Bill Clinton.
And that’s without even getting into how Biden, who valued following norms above achieving justice, ignored all norms and international human rights laws to support Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. That’s without even getting into how Biden changed immigration laws for the worse, and required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico until our immigration system gets around to them—sometimes years or decades later. That’s without getting into Covid and how Biden blocking the Wellstone Act and siding with Gilead Sciences helped make life-saving medicines unaffordable. That’s without even getting into how Biden sued to continue using Trump’s immigration laws that were harder on Haitian refugees (see Title 42).
“Better than being in a car accident” is a shit metric for nominating our political leaders.
This is not rocket science. Democrats competing with Republicans for white conservative votes, while both parties shit on leftists and progressives, is stupid. Republican voters are n-e-v-e-r going to pick a Republican-lite candidate over an actual Republican!
If you disagree, then think about how, under his leadership, Democrats lost all three branches of government to openly racist politicians, many of whom are sexual predators and abusers. Why does the Democratic Party even want the votes of people who lionize racists and rapists?? The very best thing that the DNC could do would be to exorcize all traces of Clintonism and Bidenism, and stop trying to “triangulate” with conservatives.
Biden’s presidency was disastrous—better than Trump, but still disastrous—and where he really decided to use his power the most was even more disastrous.

President Joe Biden announced Friday that he was commuting the sentences of almost 2,500 people convicted of nonviolent drug offenses, using his final days in office on a flurry of clemency actions meant to nullify prison terms he deemed too harsh. The recent round of clemency gives Biden the presidential record for most individual pardons and commutations issued. The Democrat said he is seeking to undo “disproportionately long sentences compared to the sentences they would receive today under current law, policy, and practice.” “Today’s clemency action provides relief for individuals who received lengthy sentences based on discredited distinctions between crack and powder cocaine, as well as outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes,” Biden said in a statement. “This action is an important step toward righting historic wrongs, correcting sentencing disparities, and providing deserving individuals the opportunity to return to their families and communities after spending far too much time behind bars.” The White House did not release the names of those receiving commutations. Still, Biden said more could yet be coming, promising to use the time before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated Monday to “continue to review additional commutations and pardons.”

Sen. Amy Klobuchar demanded pardon reform in direct response to President Biden granting sweeping clemency to his son Hunter Biden — and reportedly considering preemptive pardons to top allies.
“I think that we should have pardon reform,” Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki” on Sunday. “It is a right of these presidents, but you could have a committee set up, you could have suggestions from a board, you could do all kinds of things. That’s what I’d like to see.”
The president issued a blanket pardon for his son that, in addition to two sentences he faced for a guilty plea to tax offenses and a conviction on gun offenses, wiped away any crimes Hunter may or may not have committed between 2014 and 2024.
That would have included his time earning up to $1 million per year sitting on the board of the natural gas company Burisma in Ukraine while his father oversaw that nation as part of his vice presidential portfolio — as well as other million-dollar business ventures with state-linked firms in China, at least one of which had Joe Biden penciled in for a 10% stake.
Biden, 82, and his staff had insisted throughout his presidency that he would not commute or pardon his son — with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claiming the president “wrestled” with the decision and had to be convinced by Rep. Jim Clyburn (R-SC).
“This is Clyburn’s words: ‘The president was reticent’ when he tried to encourage him to pardon Hunter,” Jean-Pierre told reporters during a Friday briefing. “I think that’s important to note.”
Klobuchar slammed the oldest-ever president for meddling in the justice system.
“I didn’t like the pardon of the president’s son,” she told Psaki, Biden’s previous White House press secretary, joining a chorus of other Democrats criticizing Biden for his sweeping pardon.
“I didn’t think that that was prudent, but I also am very concerned about this idea of the preemptive pardons. I am, of everyone, very concerned about what Trump is going to do with this Justice Department,” she added. “I actually spoke to Adam Schiff this weekend about this.”
Biden is reportedly weighing issuing preemptive pardons for Senator-elect Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), retired Gen. Mark Milley and former White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci out of fear that Trump’s second administration would seek retribution.
The deliberations about preemptive pardons have included White House officials like counsel Ed Siskel and chief of staff Jeff Zients — but the president himself has not been involved in the concrete discussions, Politico reported last week.
Preemptive pardoning would make waves as presidents usually issue pardons for specific crimes, indicating that his allies may need to be shielded from offenses for which they have yet to be charged.
Those who are issued the preemptive pardons could also reject Biden’s largesse. Klobuchar noted that Schiff “has publicly said that he does not want a preemptive pardon.”
“He believes that this is a nation of laws and that there are judges that make decisions all the time, including during the last Trump administration, including Republican appointees from many different administrations who did the right thing in many cases under the law,” she said.
“I don’t think the idea of a blanket pardon is some kind of good idea and I would recommend against it,” Schiff previously told reporters.
Jean-Pierre referenced Biden’s conversation with Clyburn several times more throughout Friday’s briefing, suggesting it was a major turning point for the president as he mulled going back on his promise to the American people.
Since Hunter’s pardon, Clyburn has also pushed the administration to dole out more pardons before the president leaves office.
“I also told them that I thought he ought to go even further, because all the noise about Jack Smith and Liz Cheney and Doctor Fauci and all of that,” Clyburn told reporters on Friday, referring to the special counsel prosecuting Trump’s federal cases and the former Republican Wyoming congresswoman who co-chaired the House Jan. 6 investigative committee.

The War King's Rise Timeline
As always constructive feedback is welcome.
Timeline (Devised using: The Book of the War, Liberating Earth, Mr Bumber's Crimes against Humanity timelines).
?: The War King traveling as Yardley James with human Judy Collins as a companion: visiting the first Glastonbury Festival, getting involved in unspecified three assasinations, fighting a genetic enchanced human, and spending time in multiple prisons across time and space due to his criminal actions past and present, (including cattle rustling and robbing at least one bank to raise Yellowcake purchase funds). However at some point during her biological early twentys he discovered a terrible truth about the universe's history after which he drops Miss Collins off before going to Gallifrey 1, (later 8) to warn his people about the Enemy.
80.B.T.W.: The War King returns to Galifrey against all expectations, infiltrates the Presidential chambers killing at least three members of the Chancellory Guard, and cornering the Head of the Presidency for 15 minutes in an attempt to warn him of the War, failing to get him to take any preventative action before leaving again. The remarkably stoic President dismisses his claims and bans public dicussion despite talk of an imminent catastrophe, (the incident was however an foundation shattering experience for him).
75.B.T.W.: The War King returns to Gallifrey and surrendering himself to judgement for his crimes, (he is the second biggest criminal, his criminal record fulling two data coils) seeking no clemency despite the sentence of retro anullment only asking to address a High Council closed session. The Presidency refuses but it's veto is insufficient and so refuses to attend. The War King gives the High Council a report on the war and the enemy, (which serves as their first true acknowledgement of the conflict and inkling as to enemy's possible identity) urging diplomatic contact before leaving to, "prepare other fields of interaction", (probably developing military and armament protocols and technologies, including planning for the 1st Battle of Dronid as diplomacy was not his strong suite). The High Council keeps an eye on him and the enemy but the Presidency vindictively sabotages all attempts at diplomacy.
35.B.T.W.: The War King returns to Galifrey to share his developed protocols and technologies but is kidnapped by the Chancellory Guard immediately after his .T.T. capsule dematerialises under orders from the Presidency. The Presidency then calls an unprecendented meeting open to all, "signficant" Houses designed to eliminate any belief in the War and humiliate the War King who is restrained. The President announces his intention to found a colony on the Enemy's supposed homeworld, (no one knows where he got the coordinates form) and then have the War King vapourised upon his return leaving Umbaste in charge for the 5 days. Only the literal head of the President returned to maybe the sound of a .T.T. capsule dematerialising, (later examination discovered it had travelled back to the dawn of time and somehow been kept alive for entirely the lifespan of the universe, before being allowed to die and then transported back to the Homeworld). The War King simply steps out of the restraint completely healthy, reads out the message placed in the ex President's mouth and calls for a private High Council meeting. An appalled Umbaste is officially declared President but is basically the known puppet ruler for the War King, (purely because The War King refused due to his criminal past) who is given the title of, "The Magistrate" and serious war preperations begin. The War King focuses on overseeing the creation and development of the proper House Military prefering it's company to that of the academians, visiting each wave as they are created thus endearing himself to them.
6.B.T.W.: Tired of his non position and perhaps wanting to be as useful as the War King, President Umbaste exercised his right to visit the Caldera alone opening his biodata to it by dropping his protective bio-imprimaturs in an attempt to utilise an known erractic menthod of gaining future insight entering into a fugue state in which his biodata was no longer rooted on Gallifrey and his pysche became lost in the history meta struture. If the War King had known he would have tried to stop him.
5.B.T.W.: President Umbaste's pysche returns but he constantly repeats a single word, (translated into English without time active connotations as, "one"). After a several days officially he regains enough of his faculties to disintergate himself, unoffically it seems likely that a senior member of House Mirraflex mercy killed him. Upon his death Umbaste's Presidency officially ends and the War King agrees to succeed him taking on the position's responsibilities but not the title.
Notes He wanted Yellowcake, (a crucial nuclear bomb component) for some unspecified purpose during his travels. He was able to detect, (eg: Sight, feeling, or scanner) that something was wrong with the anchoring and it has something to do with the Enemy. The discovery instills such a sense of urgency that he decides to go to Gallifrey immediately instead of later using timetravel. His cornering of the Presidency to impress a serious warning on them is very Doctor like. He wasn't expected to return due to being considered dead after his execution, (as The Master) by the Daleks. He seems to be the only one who seems to truely care about his extensive criminal record. No mention is made of when or if he supplied the Faraway co-ordinates to the Presidency. The President's intended vapourisation of the War King is another sign of how desperate and made he is as it's against the consitution. The sound of a .T.T. capsule maybe indicates the use of D-mat technology or it's association with timetravel is so engrained some of those assembled imagined it. He doesn't seem to have immediately informed them who/what the enemy was, "first… inkling as to the enemy's identity"? Why keep it secret Maybe he was unsure or it was still too much for them to think through yet? Maybe part of endearing himself to the fourth wave was giving them the secifications of his old gadgets? The meaning of, "One" is unknown. It could be the One being in .E.D.A. Alien Bodies but it's unlikely to be the Celesitis Investigator. It could be a canonwelding opportunity as only one main Gallifrey survived .T.S.W.i.H./.T.S.G.T.W.. Umbaste's pysche went through the Untempred Schism in the Caldera leaving ghis body a shell implying that Timelords can exist as pure consciousness? The War King's comments during his speech regarding rearning their titles may explain why the Chapter level of formal pomp and circumstance disappeared. Two Heads of the Presidency, one was decapitated the other sepearted his biodata from being rooted in Gallifey's soil.
