Joe Biden's pardon of his son Hunter is the most sweeping Presidential pardon since Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon. It represents the deep corruption and contempt for the rule of law that has characterized the Biden presidency. But it is also important for another reason: the pardon is an attempt to erase the Biden family involvement with Ukraine from the time of the 2014 coup through the millions that passed into family accounts. Our current state of near WWIII is directly tied to the Biden family seeking personal riches in Ukraine.

Hey look, Biden pardoned his son and the media is going wall-to-wall in its coverage. Yeah, this is exactly what's wrong with our country right now. SHORT RANT (TM)?
WHAT HAPPENED?
So, for those who missed it, President Biden has officially pardoned his son Hunter. Media coverage of this is wall-to-wall today, it's the front page story on every single national news website. But, of course, that's not the whole story here or I wouldn't be calling it "what's wrong with our country".
Obviously it's getting reported as unequal justice, but let's look at what led to it in the first place. As reported at the time, the firearms charges that he was charged with and convicted of are charges that are almost never charged if they are the only ones that can be proven. In other words, far from being unequally pardoned of common crimes, the younger Biden is being pardoned of crimes that no ordinary person would have been charged with in the first place.
Let's face it, Biden wouldn't have needed a pardon if his dad hadn't been president. I'm a father myself and, if my kid was facing jail time as a result of something I did and I had the power to undo that, I'd undo it without a second thought and who cares about the consequences. Good luck finding a headline or even a full article in the American media today that provides all of that detail.
THE COVERAGE
The most responsible coverage reports this in the context of how it will provide an example for Trump to point to about how justice in this country is unequal/political, which, sure? Of course, that coverage (1) doesn't mention the context that I described above and (2) largely ignores Trump's own massive politicization of justice for the benefit of himself and his cronies.
The less responsible coverage, FOX News for example, simply reports it as an outrage the likes of which has never happened in American history and provides no other context whatsoever. As I said, I expect this from FOX, but the issue is how much this particular framing has leeched out into the broader media ecosystem because we've all forgotten the lessons of 2016 in which we should have learned that FOX and right-wing media in general must largely be tuned out if you want to report accurate news.
WHY IT'S A PROBLEM
Look, I'm all for being outraged that Biden is doing something like this, but are you only outraged at Biden? Where was this outrage when Trump pardoned major political supporters, campaign staff, and political advisors? Where was the outrage when he pardoned 7 Congressmen who had supported him politically? Where was the outrage when he pardoned wealthy individuals who had paid tens of thousands of dollars for those pardons? Where was the outrage when he promised to issue a blanket pardon to those who attempted to overthrow our Constitution and our democracy on January 6th, 2021? Where was the outrage when he talked about pardoning HIMSELF for the myriad of crimes that he has committed and been charged with?
If we're going to talk about unequal justice, let's talk about unequal justice, but at this point it seems like there is more outrage for people who take actions that might feed into Trump's misguided narratives than there is for Trump himself.
When Democrats talk about a double standard, this is it; Democrats are held to an impossible standard of perfection because any perceived misstep might give fuel to Trump's outrageous lies while Trump himself is able to do just about anything with only the barest of peeps. It's a double-standard that's guaranteed to make even the most perfect Democrat look as bad as Trump to the casual observer even as he wallows in corruption, bigotry, and criminality.
That's what's wrong with our country right now, we can't accurately get across the scale of atrociousness that Trump commits on a daily basis because we're too focused on making sure that those opposing him meet an impossible standard of purity before we're willing to even look at him. No problem can be fixed until the person who needs to fix it can put a name to the problem and describe it and the American media seems to be committed to making sure that we are never able to understand where the problem actually lies and what it actually is.
Until that changes, be prepared for American politics to sink deeper and deeper into the muck and mire of Trumpian corruption.

Excuse me while I yawn about the pardon for Hunter Biden. 🥱
MAGA Republicans are hyper-hypocritical with their criticism of the pardon and some liberals are being severely naïve with their own criticisms.
John Dean was White House counsel to Richard Nixon. He was a major whistleblower in the Watergate scandal. He is the one who made the famous comment to Nixon about a cancer growing on the presidency.
Mr. Dean remembers how Nixon tried to use the government against perceived enemies. He thinks that Biden should go much further with pardons to protect government employees from a hostile Donald Trump.
The president, who had previously vowed not to pardon his son, is facing criticism from both the left and right over the move. But Dean said he didn’t go far enough ― and urged Biden to issue blanket pardons to everyone President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to target when he returns to the White House next month. That list includes those who have investigated Trump ― including Robert Mueller and Jack Smith and their teams ― as well as “all on Trump’s enemies list.” Biden should keep going with his pardons: Trump, Jack Smith & team, Mueller & team, and a blanket pardon for all on Trump’s enemies list for any and all political statements before December 25, 2024! Merry Christmas:-). Take the wind out of retribution/revenge! — John W Dean (@johnwdean.bsky.social) 2024-12-02T02:37:58.073Z Trump has repeatedly talked up revenge and retribution and, over the summer, threatened to jail adversaries he accused of “unscrupulous behavior.”
Anybody who Trump or his henchmen has ever threatened for doing their jobs honestly should get a pardon. It doesn't matter if they're totally innocent. The pardons will protect them from trumped-up charges in the future.
The list should definitely include people during the Trump administration who chose to speak out about his corruption and abuse of power.
If the pardon does not include several thousand names then it's too small.

President Biden announced late Sunday that he had signed a full and unconditional pardon for his son Hunter Biden.
The pardon comes in the last weeks of President Biden's time in office and despite his public assurances in the past that he would neither pardon nor commute his son's sentence.
"I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," Biden said in a White House statement. "It is clear that Hunter was treated differently."
Hunter Biden was convicted in June of federal gun charges for lying about his addiction to crack cocaine when he purchased a gun. Three months later, he entered a guilty plea to tax offenses for failing to pay at least $1.4 million in federal taxes. Sentencing was expected later this month in both cases.
Both of the prosecutions were brought by Justice Department special counsel David Weiss. The cases were rooted in a period of time when Hunter Biden was wrestling with the death of his brother, Beau, and struggling with his own addiction to crack cocaine.
In June, President Biden promised not to pardon his son and said, "I will not pardon him" after his son was convicted for three federal gun charges.
The 82-year-old seemed to address this reversal in his statement.
"I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice," Biden wrote. (Read more at link)
Good.

US Biden commutes sentences of 37 out of 40 federal death row inmates
Ahead of Donald Trump’s ascension to the White House, incumbent US President Joe Biden commuted the death sentences of 37 out of 40 people to life in prison without parole, US media reported on Monday.
With less than a month to go before taking office, Biden faced growing calls from death penalty opponents to commute the sentences of death row inmates to life without parole, which 37 people will now serve.
The move makes only a few known murderers who acted out of hatred or terrorism, which was the subject of a moratorium under Biden, eligible for the death penalty. Biden said in a statement:
“These commutations are consistent with the moratorium my Administration has imposed on federal executions, in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder. I am commuting the sentences of 37 of the 40 individuals on federal death row to life sentences without the possibility of parole.”
The inmates who will remain on federal death row are Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who helped carry out the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and Dylann Roof, a convinced white supremacist who shot and killed nine black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015. Robert Bowers, who killed 11 Jewish churchgoers in the 2018 mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, will also remain on death row.
Among those who have had their sentences commuted are nine men convicted of killing fellow inmates, four for murders committed during a bank robbery and one who killed a prison guard.
On December 12, Biden decided to pardon 39 people. He also commuted the sentences of nearly 1,500 people, the largest single-day pardon in US history. The decision, which affects non-violent offences, drew criticism from President-elect Donald Trump, who called it an abuse of power.
Before the election, Donald Trump said he did not rule out the possibility of pardoning current US leader Joe Biden’s son Hunter if he won. Later, the media wrote that after returning to the White House, the Republican may pardon the participants in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, New York Mayor Eric Adams, accused of corruption and fraud, as well as Hunter Biden.
During the US presidential race in 2024, Republican candidate Donald Trump said he intended to work to expand the range of offences that would be punishable by the death penalty.

I still can't get over the fact that Anthony Blinken orchestrated the infamous "Hunter Laptop is Russian Disinfo" intel letter and he's faced ZERO consequences. The man got our "intelligence community" to lie in order to rig an election and was rewarded with the Sec State job!

It's not right but you have to think, the guy's lost 2 children. You think he can stand to see another one go to jail? Republicans can't act like they care when their president has 34 felonies and wants to pardon 1,000 January 6 rioters.
Why don't voters trust what politicians say?
For career politicians and the fools that vote for them, it's about the blame game and "it's THEIR FAULT"
.......and their voters buy it, election after election
Joey has said, on the record, multiple times, he would not pardon Hunter.
Now, the media "experts" are weighing in with the fully expected excuse of, well Trump lied about......."
As though that somehow justifies what just happened.
Equal justice under the law is true, except if you're rich or have political power.
As a parent I understand what he did.
As a citizen of America, I do not.
Maybe those who hold power and influence over others are no different from me when it comes to family.
Final note to ALL humans with power and influence.......
Don't believe what I say, believe what I DO!!!!
