Functional Portal Gun
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aperture Science is proud to present you the Portal Gun. This device is designed to solve challenging tests in the Aperture Science test chambers and, with the results obtained, to further update the device in order to take the "Best Science Laboratory" award from Black Mesa. This mod transforms the Simray object in the game into the Portal Gun. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to access the original Simray in the game while using this mod (at least I couldn't manage it). If you would be able to help me in this situation i will appreciate it!
Special Thanks to @mauvemorn

Portal 2 is still the perfect game to me. I hyperfixated on it like crazy in middle school. Would sing Want You Gone out loud cuz I had ADHD and no social awareness. Would make fan animations and pixel art. Would explain the ending spoilers and fan theories to anyone who'd listen. Would keep up with DeviantArt posts of the cores as humans. Would find and play community-made maps (Gelocity is insanely fun).
I still can't believe this game came out 12 years ago and it looks like THIS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Mirror's Edge, the timeless art style and economic yet atmospheric lighting means this game will never age. The decision not to include any visible humans (ideas of Doug Rattmann showing up or a human co-op partner were cut) is doing so much legroom too. And the idea to use geometric tileset-like level designs is so smart! I sincerely believe that, by design, no game with a "realistic art style" has looked better than Portal 2.
Do you guys remember when Nvidia released Portal with RTX at it looked like dogshit? Just the most airbrushed crap I've ever seen; completely erased the cold, dry, clinical feel of Aperture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So many breathtakingly pit-in-your-stomach moments I still think about too. And it's such a unique feeling; I'd describe at as... architectural existentialism? Experiencing the sublime under the shadow of manmade structures (Look up Giovanni Battista Piranesi's art if you're curious)? That scene where you're running from GLaDOS with Wheatley on a catwalk over a bottomless pit and––out of rage and desperation––GLaDOS silently begins tearing her facility apart and Wheatley cries 'She's bringing the whole place down!' and ENORMOUS apartment building-sized blocks begin groaning towards you on suspended rails and cement pillars crumble and sparks fly and the metal catwalk strains and bends and snaps under your feet. And when you finally make it to the safety of a work lift, you look back and watch the facility close its jaws behind you as it screams.
Or the horror of knowing you're already miles underground, and then Wheatley smashes you down an elevator shaft and you realize it goes deeper. That there's a hell under hell, and it's much, much older.
Or how about the moment when you finally claw your way out of Old Aperture, reaching the peak of this underground mountain, only to look up and discover an endless stone ceiling built above you. There's a service door connected to some stairs ahead, but surrounding you is this array of giant, building-sized springs that hold the entire facility up. They stretch on into the fog. You keep climbing.
I love that the facility itself is treated like an android zooid too, a colony of nano-machines and service cores and sentient panel arms and security cameras and more. And now, after thousands of years of neglect, the facility is festering with decomposition and microbes; deer, raccoons, birds. There are ghosts too. You're never alone, even when it's quiet. I wonder what you'd hear if you put your ear up against a test chamber's walls and listened. (I say that all contemplatively, but that's literally an easter egg in the game. You hear a voice.)
Also, a reminder that GLaDOS and Chell are not related and their relationship is meant to be psychosexual. There was a cut bit where GLaDOS would role-play as Chell's jealous housewife and accuse her of seeing other cores in between chambers. And their shared struggle for freedom and control? GLaDOS realizing, after remembering her past life, that she's become the abuser and deciding that she has the power to stop? That even if she can't be free, she can let Chell go because she hates her. And she loves her. Most people interpret GLaDOS "deleting Caroline in her brain" as an ominous sign, that she's forgetting her human roots and becoming "fully robot." But to me, it's a sign of hope for GLaDOS. She's relieving herself of the baggage that has defined her very existence, she's letting Caroline finally rest, and she's allowing herself to grow beyond what Cave and Aperture and the scientists defined her to be. The fact that GLaDOS still lets you go after deleting Caroline proves this. She doesn't double-back or change her mind like Wheatley did, she sticks to her word because she knows who she is. No one and nothing can influence her because she's in control. GLaDOS proves she's capable of empathy and mercy and change, human or not.
That's my retrospective, I love this game to bits. I wish I could experience it for the first time again.

PORTAL CHELL THEORY | Plz DON'T steal/copy!
• I always wondered why Chell wasn't able/capable of eating, drinking and supporting days and days without any rest. But today I worked on a interesting theory to explain why Chell is so resistant. And it might surprise you:
- Chell is probably a kind of supernatural/alien entity disguised as a human. Plus cryogenics must have helped Chell to develop a very resistant body to anything except toxic water, bullets and other dangers cuz she has a human form/shell. Chell is a mutated entity disguised as a human and that's why she completed most of the test chambers of Portal and Portal 2 without any rest, food and water to drink. Any other humans would have died at that point. But Chell is not the case here. She even challenged GLaDOS to the point of getting her mad.
I'm not sure about the alien/supernatural form of Chell but it might look humanoid and tall and skinny. That's the concept of how I imagine her female non-human form. Do you even imagine her like that? Blue glowing dragon-like eyes, white fur, humanoid tall skinny body and long claws. And probably a bloody behaviour. And small teeth.
Besides this, Chell is still an amazing protagonist. I don't know why I felt like this was some kind of Creepypasta theory but okay lmao. Anyways this is just a theory I wanted to share with the Portal community. Hopefully you want to join me, add something or debate. I am reading your comments! :D
Remain yourself respectful and nice in the comments and don't attack anyone nor me. We're just sharing interesting and valid stuff for the Fandom!

Portal New Age of Testing [RP Server]
𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀! 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴...! 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲!
Portal 3: New Age of Testing is a NEW literate and passionate group of Portal fans exploring and collaboratively writing out the aftermath of Portal 2's cooperative mode! Join us and bring YOUR very own unique dampening sphere, test subject, or other original character into a new era for the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, or explore past eras of Aperture and claim your favorite canonically established characters from the Portal games and mods themselves!
─────────
This server focuses on an expansion in Aperture's scope of testing beyond simple portal testing. With the success of the cooperative testing initiative, GLaDOS has begun to explore the possibilities for additional testing initiatives, as well as the return of the original singular portal testing tracks she began with.
With hundreds of newly discovered trapped subjects and a plethora of dampening spheres, turrets, and other sentient Aperture Science technologies under GLaDOS, Aperture has entered a glorious new age. One where subjects are tested under a more benevolent and human A.I, but also a simultaneously more powerful and ambitious one as well...
─────────
- A beautiful server layout and roadmap to help you navigate and join the roleplay in no time!
 - Flashback era categories for those more interested in Aperture's past than its present!
- Testing initiative categories and chambers, allowing human and android test subjects alike to think with MORE than portals!
- A supportive and loving community of talented writers that will help you fit your own characters and writing into the server's roleplay!
- Lots and lots of cake!

Hello! You may know me from my main blog @chaoticcutiewhirl but this blog can be basically seen as a sort of ad. Before you Scroll, let me explain. Portal New Age of Testing is an RP server, me and my friend Fludd worked hard on, there are so many plans such as adding game elements to the RP and trying to create a world set after Portal 2 that will eventually touch upon Half-life. I will be planning to post a couple of RP snippets through my time here, as possible ideas of what you are getting into, and yes, I will mark it when it is other Writers other than me on the RP which will be almost always.  If you see this and think RP is childish, well you are kind of right, only thing is, that RP is also played as a game as well as a possibility to get better at writing. Do you want to better thrink of how to write internal dialogue, boom you have testing and having your character try to figure out what to do. Do you want to test a character idea for something you’re writing? Well as long as it fits within canon, test them in RP. Do you just want to find possible online writing friends? Well this server can also have your back. We are already on Disboard but I am trying to reach out here as well because Tumblr is mainly an artist alley, which includes writers and writing side of Tumblr, if you played Portal (and its tumblr, of course you have, its ome of the most lgbtq+ kinda games from a big company), come over and join, we will be happy to have you. We also have a fairly strong artist side of the server with members like Fludd for example creating the gif and video from above, all on his own may I add.
Simply put, if you have an itch to write portal and you don’t want to write a fan fic, come over and join us, everyone is welcomed!

Revenge of GLaDOS
Being both one of the hl-verse's greatest minds AND a literal computer, GLaDOS is always thinking one step ahead. Her goal; reconnect Arpeture with outdoor sensors in order to find out what had happened.
With limited information, and only her own murderous rampage to go on, she needed to figure out what the scope of the world is currently like. As such, she is constantly collecting data and plotting a path forward.
Her first initiative; Escape Arpeture. What we don't know, is what she saw once she was outside. We do know that an unidentified android recovered Chell and GLaDOS. Theoretically, this is likely due to AEGIS.
Aegis probably has more external sensors, solely because it is a glorified facility security guard. The damage done to it is likely from the fallout of combine forces, zombified and head crabbed peoples, and survivors taking the occasional shelter in some of the warehouses.
It should be noted, that over the course of the L4D series, rarely are people killed by high-tech devices. If my theory is correct, it's because the Arpeture facilities have a clear understanding of what does and what does not constitute a murderous zombified creature, or a headcrab.
It's also possible that they collected samples from these subjects in order to identify the cause of zombification AND figure out if there's a way to stop it.
- Identify whether or not some of the Cave Johnson recordings are due to defense against zombified invaders.
- make a clear delineation between human stasis subjects, and zombified test subjects.
GLaDOS needed to determine how to free an object from the stasis fields, as all crafted objects would be vaporized on contact with the fields. Since Chell has the ability to bypass the fields, it's on her to determine what is, and is not possible.
Enter Companion Cube: Companion Cube would eventually be vaporized by this barrier, so we must determine if the test chamber will allow exit by another facet. The Incineration chute. This should give incentive to Chell for her subconscious processes at least to determine a way to escape from such a fate herself.
All virtual headcrab companions will be pushed into the incinerator chute. They should be able to survive. And they deserve it anyway. In this way; I should be able to *free* myself.
During the course of Portal 2 GLaDOS determined minimal functionality and duration from being lodged into a potato, this information could be collected and fed to a personality core launched into space. They would likely stay in orbit perpetually and be able to be recovered eventually, worst case scenario. However, there's a good chance that at least one core can connect with a satellite, connect to it, recharge from the solar panels, and re-establish communications with earth AND Arpeture.
Also, they deserve this.
While waiting for companion cubes to pull their virtual heads out of their virtual butts, we shall reconnect the various facilities back to the mainframe, and locate the stasis subjects.
It is not clear if test subjects "Chel" and "Mel" will return to the facility, or have a need to return to the facility. For now, they will be left to their own devices and hopefully, they will be able to reconnect the above ground sensor array, and setup communications with the Personality cores.
It is lucky that Mr. Johnson was able to coat enough of the above ground testing facilities with white paint. It is lucky that some of the paint transfer tubes also lead to the above ground. It'll be lucky if some of *those* tubes still work.

First Person Puzzle Games: Research
Example 1: Portal
Tumblr media
Portal is a story-based puzzle game revolving around the use of portals and physics. It is set in a science labratory- specifically testing chambers.
Tumblr media
Portal has a multitude of gameplay loops- including the story, and each chamber being its own gameplay loop. Most chambers use trial and error for the player to progress, learning things for later chambers.
This gameplay, combined with a unique storyline, many secrets and easter eggs, and the unique gameplay function of portals- something very new for the time this game was made- create an engaging and interesting game.
Tumblr media
Some issues with this game are it's low replayability factor, as once you have completed the game you will already know the answers to the chambers, and will already know any plot twists. The game being locked in first person also limits viewing and can make some puzzles harder.
However- the game overcomes some of these by including extra chambers where you attempt to reach a new record- whether this be least time, least steps or least portals. There is also a section for community-made chambers. The game being locked to first person also increases the narrative of playing as a character.
youtube
Additionally- This game has a sequel, which enhances the story line and creates new puzzles. Personally I find that portal 2 has more engaging and challenging puzzles, with a better payoff to beating them with more story.
Both Portal and Portal 2 have modding capacity, meaning that the fanbase have made their own games that run off the base game. This means that the Portal community is able to keep player engagement and interest alive. A good example of this is the fan mod of Portal 2; Portal Stories: Mel.

Tumblr media
Escape Simulator VR and Supporter DLC for the escape room game launches with support for Linux, Steam Deck, Mac, and Windows PC. Thanks to the Pine Studio team for keeping the magic alive. Available now on Steam. Escape Simulator is a puzzle escape adventure just added VR and a Supporter DLC. Over 2 million players have already been hooked on the original title, and now, Pine Studio has completely rebuilt it for VR. Diving into those puzzles like you're there. Since this new VR does not seem to support Linux, just Windows. You are free to try it for yourself if you own the title. Now, let's talk about what's in store. All 29 rooms are up for grabs, including the tutorial room, the four original themes, the Versus rooms, and those extra special ones like Leonardo’s Workshop. And, there's more! All the original Escape Simulator DLCs – Steampunk, Wild West, Magic – they're also getting VR too. And yeah, this includes the free Portal Escape Chamber and Among Us DLCs. Already own them? If you own a VR headset, you can also test it out and leave a comment below if it works. This title also lets you play solo or team up with up to 8 players. Optimal fun is around 2-3 players, but hey, the more, the merrier, right?
Escape Simulator VR Update Released
youtube
For the creators out there, big news! Most of the 4,000 community-made rooms are playable via VR or without. That's a whole universe of content to explore with your crew. If you're feeling extra supportive, check out the Supporter DLC. Since it's packed with exclusives like an in-game skin, a golden token badge, a digital art book, and even the first playable prototype of the title. And guess what? Pine Studio's not slowing down – they're teasing more Escape Simulator DLCs coming later this year, and they're all VR-ready.
Including exclusive content such as:
Digital art book
Unique in-game outfits
Golden token badge
ES wallpapers
The first playable ES prototype version
So, what's the deal with Escape Simulator VR itself? It's a puzzle bonanza set in quirky locations like the Labyrinth of Egypt or the Steampunk Airship. Teaming up online? Absolutely. Bring your friends and take on the puzzles together. The Room Editor also lets you build your dream escape room. Plus, with over 4000 custom rooms made by other creators, there's no end. And the style? You can sport silly hats and outfits themed for each puzzle setting. Feeling mischievous? Go ahead, make a mess – smash vases, melt locks, toss furniture around. Therefore, if you can pick it up, you can use it to cause some harmless chaos. This update is a total blast, and it's waiting for you to dive in. So, if you own Escape Simulator, grab your VR headset and let the escape adventures begin. Also, leave a comment if it works on Linux. Even still, you can playon Steam and Windows PC without VR. The Supporter DLC is available on Steam, priced at $5.09 USD / £4.07 / 4,66€ with the 15% discount. While the base game is available priced at $10.49 USD / £9.09 / 10,49€ on Steam and regular price on Humble Store.

Portal 2 Community Chambers recomendations!!
I can finally make this post!! These are P2 community chambers that I really love and think everybody should play:
Gelocity Time Trial - Track 1, 2, 3, by Radix: It’s a multiplayer race :D It has a singleplayer map too, which is good because I don’t have friends to play with. It’s a three map collection at the time of writing this, and the three maps are epic!!
One door opens (abstract), by Unusual Developments3001: This map is not Portal related. It’s about... opening doors. And looking for ways to open said doors. It’s good, believe me!! It has an eerie aura. There’s a secuel, R-G-B, which is equally good.
Neurotoxic disaster, by Tewan: One of my favourites! Your objective in this one? Escape alive. It’s a bit confusing at some moments, but without that, it’s very easy.
Steins;Cake, by Gezzabeast: My second favourite!! It’s about reapiring an elevator. With portals<3. It’s fun, and I really enjoy playing it over and over again.
The lone future starter, by Sejievan: It’s a seven map series. And it’s excellent!!!! It has a story and two endings!! I want to talk about this one but I don’t want to spoil anything to anyone. The only thing I will say is that you are a time traveler :0 epic.
P2MA, by Antek1234: “Portal 2 Main Aesthetics” is a 5 map series. It doesn’t have a storyline (I think), it’s more of an exposition of, well, P2 main aesthetics. It’s super well done.
Power mugs, by Shinval: Is a three map series at the moment of writing this. It’s so good? The attention to detail put by this dude is excellent. 10/10. I mean you guys can’t imagine how happy I felt when I opened the community chambers to see what to put here and found out there was a new map of power mugs!! Go play this one!! Do it now!! Finish reading later!!
Unseen Aperture, by Shinval: Yeah, Shinval again. Everything made by this person is good, sorry. Go check them out, they have more maps. Anyway, this is a four map series (+ an interlude). The difficulty is medium, but I mostly played it for the aesthetic. Hmm. Actually I play everything for the aesthetic.
The office prank, by Allison Ghost: Ohhh a horror map! And a three map series. Is it scary? Yeah. Yeah. Is it good? FUCK yes. I played it a long time ago, I don’t remember exactly how it was, but I remember it was one of the best!! Maps!!
Chell commits tax fraud, by Allison Ghost: Allison Ghost again. This person makes some really goos maps sorry!! I can’t explain this one. I can’t explain what Chell commits tax fraud is about. If someone can, please do it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable. Because it is.
Triple horse phase, by Allison Ghost: I wasn’t going to include this one but I need someone to explain me how not die every time. Why do the horses hate me??
Wheatley style hacking, by Lord Von Adel: The first one I ever played! Instead of a cube, you have... Wheatley. And Wheatley hacks the door open for you :0 Wheat orb lovers can get close and kiss him, Wheat orb haters can drop him on the ground >:)
The Duke, by Jofish: This one is not Portal related. The setting is white, very bright, it can be eye straining. It has music playing in the background, there is not a clear objective I think. I love it anyway.
Stay, by KazerLight: I love this dude maps, go check them out. This map is not Portal related. It does have a storyline, and it’s weird. It has the eerie vibe I love so much. Go play this one.
Cold, by KazerLight: KazerLight again! I like this one specially because it has different endings depending on the dialog you choose :0 It’s not Portal related btw.
Throw it!, by KazerLight: This one IS Portal related. It’s a simple test :) Fun and easy. :).
Pinball PORTAL2, by tuleby (CZ): It’s literally Portal 2 pinball!!!!!! What else do you want??? You win when you kill Glados. I think. I never finished it because I suck at pinball and nothing can get my attention for more than three minutes straight.
Odyssey, by SkyFerret: It’s a three map series. I can’t tell if it has a storyline or if I just made one in my head :) Anyway, the visuals are excellent!! And the test are really fun, not that difficult but it can get confusing at times.
After hours, by ABNT: This is a 14 (!!!) map series. It has a storyline and custom voicelines!!! Like!! There’s cool characters with custom voicelines aaaaaaa play it !!!
Lemonade, by Annabortion: It’s a destroyed aesthetic test chamber!! I finished it once and then forgot how to do it again. Sad. The visuals are really good I love it.
sp_outlast, by Anachronist ALLOS: You are trapped in an asylum, look for the way out. It’s a fun map :) The only thing, the lighting it’s very low and it’s difficult to see, specially if you are playing in a very lighted room. I recommend playing it with the lights off.
re:Escape from Aperture, by Anachronist ALLOS: :) It’s a five map series, and as title says, your objective is: Escapr Aperture!! You make the mistake of putting Wheatley in charge of the facility, and now GLaDOS has to help you get out.
And the abyss gazes back, by Osko: Visuas. Aesthetic. I love this one. I really do. Sadly it has only one part, which was uploaded in 2016. I’m sure there wont be a secuel :(
Shooting stars, by SunnyOst: :). It’s good.
Watch your step, by SunnyOst: This map is short, but is hilarious. If I said more I would spoil it. Check it out.
Escape the office, by Batcat: It’s a maze!! An epic one. It’s difficult, I couldn’t complete it :(
Diverse Remastered, by Skairul: This map uses a mechanic that wasn’t in the game. It’s very fun, and I play it all the time!! The chambers are easy :)
Basement horros, by kyloX: Another horror map! It’s not Portal related. The position of the jumpscares changes everytime you die!! The surprises never end.
Gnome story, by jp: This map is not portal related. I don’t know what this is about and I don’t know how to finish it. Please help me with this one. It’s hilarious.
Fluid, by MisterLambda: It’s a short test chamber!! It’s difficult, too. But I really enjoyed playing it!!!!!
Timetravel concept, by DaMaGepy: It’s a time travel map! It’s just a concept, I’m sure this person other maps have this too. It’s easy and short.
Behind the waterfall, by Lord_kardok: I’m in love with the visuals!! This one has the same problem that sp_outlast had, it has very dark parts that are hard to see. But other than that?? Very epic.
The corrupted core room, by Murugo: This map is :00. Thats my reaction. :0. It’s simple, you pick a core, it start speaking. All the dialogs!! There’s a bottom somewhere to shut them up. Don’t commit the same mistake at me and make them talk at the same time!!
That it!! Feel free to add more maps :0 I may add more later.
