When you’re as good at overcomplicating things as I am, it really should be considered a skill. Even GLaDOS acknowledges it.

Note
hi! i hope this is alright to ask but i was wondering if you had any reading recommendations about invasive species and their management/control/rhetoric. there just seems to be a lot to it. thank you!
Woah. Look at this post I was drafting literally two hours before you sent this, about the nationalist appropriation of rhetoric of "native vs. invasive" species in Hungarian land management:
Tumblr media
Appropriate case study: (1) The tree was non-native and its introduction was facilitated by Austro-Hungarian imperial aristocracy and military, especially as fortification during wars in the eighteenth century. (2) It out-competed native trees and the government encouraged plantations of the species. (3) Because of its economic and political importance, the reactionary Hungarian parliament in 2014 officially named the tree "Hungaricum" (native/national heritage).
Yes, there is a lot. This is practically a whole discipline.

If you're looking for a collection, anthology, or singular book with multiple tangents, angles, or perspectives (rather than having to search through individual articles or journals), there are three collections I'm recommending below, but this also might be helpful:
Feral Atlas: The More-Than-Human Anthropocene, co-edited by Anna Tsing (she's probably the most high-profile scholar of this subject). Aside from containing a bunch of freely-available essays from about 100 authors on altered ecologies and rhetoric/imaginaries of environments in the Anthropocene, their big online portal just published the entire syllabus with a bunch of maps and graphics and free articles, in formats for non-academic reading groups, undergrad classes, and graduate seminars. If you go to Feral Atlas's homepage, you'll see a straightforward list of all of those authors.

---
It's been a "transdisciplinary" topic (especially in the past 15-ish years) in environmental humanities, ecocriticism, environmental studies, "science communication," anthropology, etc. (I think the humanities or interdisciplinary scholars handle the subject with more grace than ecology-as-a-field proper.) It shows up a lot in discussion of "the postcolonial," "ecopoetics," "Anthropocene," "multispecies ethnography," and "the posthuman"; Haraway was explicitly writing about rhetoric of invasive species in the 1990s.
A significant amount of posts on my blog from 2018-2022 are about invasive/alien/native labels. I summarized some of the discourses in my post about Colombian hippos. I especially talked a lot about the writing of Banu Subramaniam (rhetoric of ecological invasion, racialization of aliens); Rafi Youatt ("interspecies politics"); Anna Boswell (Aotearoa extinctions, "anamorphic ecology"); Sophie Chao ("post-plantation ecologies"); Elaine Gan ("Anthropocene temporalities" and industrial ruins); Hugo Reinert (species "purity" and extinctions); Puig de la Bellacasa ("speculative ethics in a multispecies world"); Ann Laura Stoler (of fame for her writing on "imperial debris" and ruination/haunting), Hugh Raffles, Nils Burbandt, Anna Tsing, and others. Lately in my own work I've been writing on borders/frontiers and media/colonial imaginaries of "pests/the exotic" and have been referencing Jeannie Shinozuka's Biotic Borders: Transpacific Plant and Insect Migration and the Rise of Anti-Asian Racism in America, 1890-1950.
Thanks for saying hi.

Portal 2 is still the perfect game to me. I hyperfixated on it like crazy in middle school. Would sing Want You Gone out loud cuz I had ADHD and no social awareness. Would make fan animations and pixel art. Would explain the ending spoilers and fan theories to anyone who'd listen. Would keep up with DeviantArt posts of the cores as humans. Would find and play community-made maps (Gelocity is insanely fun).
I still can't believe this game came out 12 years ago and it looks like THIS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Mirror's Edge, the timeless art style and economic yet atmospheric lighting means this game will never age. The decision not to include any visible humans (ideas of Doug Rattmann showing up or a human co-op partner were cut) is doing so much legroom too. And the idea to use geometric tileset-like level designs is so smart! I sincerely believe that, by design, no game with a "realistic art style" has looked better than Portal 2.
Do you guys remember when Nvidia released Portal with RTX at it looked like dogshit? Just the most airbrushed crap I've ever seen; completely erased the cold, dry, clinical feel of Aperture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So many breathtakingly pit-in-your-stomach moments I still think about too. And it's such a unique feeling; I'd describe at as... architectural existentialism? Experiencing the sublime under the shadow of manmade structures (Look up Giovanni Battista Piranesi's art if you're curious)? That scene where you're running from GLaDOS with Wheatley on a catwalk over a bottomless pit and––out of rage and desperation––GLaDOS silently begins tearing her facility apart and Wheatley cries 'She's bringing the whole place down!' and ENORMOUS apartment building-sized blocks begin groaning towards you on suspended rails and cement pillars crumble and sparks fly and the metal catwalk strains and bends and snaps under your feet. And when you finally make it to the safety of a work lift, you look back and watch the facility close its jaws behind you as it screams.
Or the horror of knowing you're already miles underground, and then Wheatley smashes you down an elevator shaft and you realize it goes deeper. That there's a hell under hell, and it's much, much older.
Or how about the moment when you finally claw your way out of Old Aperture, reaching the peak of this underground mountain, only to look up and discover an endless stone ceiling built above you. There's a service door connected to some stairs ahead, but surrounding you is this array of giant, building-sized springs that hold the entire facility up. They stretch on into the fog. You keep climbing.
I love that the facility itself is treated like an android zooid too, a colony of nano-machines and service cores and sentient panel arms and security cameras and more. And now, after thousands of years of neglect, the facility is festering with decomposition and microbes; deer, raccoons, birds. There are ghosts too. You're never alone, even when it's quiet. I wonder what you'd hear if you put your ear up against a test chamber's walls and listened. (I say that all contemplatively, but that's literally an easter egg in the game. You hear a voice.)
Also, a reminder that GLaDOS and Chell are not related and their relationship is meant to be psychosexual. There was a cut bit where GLaDOS would role-play as Chell's jealous housewife and accuse her of seeing other cores in between chambers. And their shared struggle for freedom and control? GLaDOS realizing, after remembering her past life, that she's become the abuser and deciding that she has the power to stop? That even if she can't be free, she can let Chell go because she hates her. And she loves her. Most people interpret GLaDOS "deleting Caroline in her brain" as an ominous sign, that she's forgetting her human roots and becoming "fully robot." But to me, it's a sign of hope for GLaDOS. She's relieving herself of the baggage that has defined her very existence, she's letting Caroline finally rest, and she's allowing herself to grow beyond what Cave and Aperture and the scientists defined her to be. The fact that GLaDOS still lets you go after deleting Caroline proves this. She doesn't double-back or change her mind like Wheatley did, she sticks to her word because she knows who she is. No one and nothing can influence her because she's in control. GLaDOS proves she's capable of empathy and mercy and change, human or not.
That's my retrospective, I love this game to bits. I wish I could experience it for the first time again.

Navigating Your Own Astral Mindscape
Tumblr media
Your astral mindscape is the personal, internal realm of your consciousness—a vast, shifting landscape where your subconscious mind, spiritual essence, and energetic body converge. It is both a sanctuary and a place for exploration, healing, and self-discovery. Learning to navigate this space can deepen your understanding of yourself, enhance psychic abilities, and strengthen your connection to astral realms.
Understanding the Astral Mindscape
Your mindscape is a mental-astral projection of your consciousness, shaped by thoughts, emotions, memories, and subconscious symbols. It can appear as:
• A dreamlike world with familiar and unfamiliar locations.
• A personal temple or sanctuary where your energy resides.
• A labyrinth of shifting symbols, reflecting deep psychological and spiritual truths.
• A gateway to deeper astral realms, spirit communication, or past-life exploration.
Unlike traditional astral projection, which involves traveling to external astral planes, mindscape navigation is an internal journey where you explore and shape your own inner reality.
Preparing for Astral Mindscape Exploration
Before diving in, set up a safe, focused space for practice:
1. Grounding & Centering
• Breathwork: Slow, deep breathing to calm the mind.
• Energy Anchoring: Visualize roots growing from your feet, grounding you into the Earth.
• Mantras: Use affirmations such as “I am safe. I am in control. I navigate with clarity.”
2. Creating a Protective Shield
• Imagine a sphere of white or golden light around you.
• Call upon a spirit guide, deity, or guardian for protection.
• Carry a protective talisman (such as a black tourmaline, pentagram, or protective sigil).
Tumblr media
3. Setting an Intention
Before entering your mindscape, decide your goal:
• Healing past wounds
• Finding guidance from spirit allies
• Strengthening psychic abilities
• Exploring past-life memories
• Building a personal astral sanctuary
Entering Your Astral Mindscape
Method 1: Meditation Gateway (Ideal for beginners)
• Close your eyes and relax deeply.
• Imagine a doorway, portal, or staircase in your mind.
• Step through it, entering your personal mental-astral realm.
• Observe what appears—do not force anything.
• Move through your environment, noting landscapes, symbols, or beings you encounter.
• When ready, return through the portal, grounding yourself back in your body.
Method 2: Lucid Dreaming Entry (Best for deep subconscious access)
• Before sleep, affirm: “Tonight, I will enter my mindscape with awareness.”
• Keep a dream journal to track recurring locations, symbols, or themes.
• Use lucidity triggers, such as hand-checking or reality affirmations, to recognize when you are dreaming.
• Once lucid, shift focus inward, asking: “Where is my mindscape?”
• Explore with intention, gathering insights from your subconscious.
Method 3: Guided Visualization (For structured exploration)
• Imagine yourself in a void—a vast space of limitless potential.
• Picture the environment shaping itself around you- A temple, a forest, a castle, an endless ocean—whatever resonates.
• If uncertain, ask: “What does my mind look like?” and let the scene emerge.
• Walk through this space, interacting with objects, doors, or entities.
• Take mental notes of anything significant—everything has meaning.
Tumblr media
Mapping & Interacting with Your Mindscape
Once inside, you’ll find key locations that serve as powerful points of transformation.
Common Mindscape Structures & Their Meanings:
• The Sanctuary: A safe space, often appearing as a temple, garden, or home.
• The Mirror Room: A place where you face your true self, hidden aspects, or past identities.
• The Library or Archive: Holds records of your soul’s knowledge, memories, and past lives.
• The Abyss: A void where suppressed fears, trauma, or deep truths reside.
• The Gateway: A portal to external astral planes or deeper subconscious layers.
• A Garden: Growth, creativity, and healing energy.
• A Castle or Fortress: Strong walls and locked doors. Your defenses, inner strength, and self-protection.
• A Dark Cave or Locked Door: Hidden trauma, fears, repressed memories, secrets, or untapped potential.
Interacting with Your Mindscape:
• Speak to Entities: Some beings may represent aspects of yourself, spirit guides, or guardians.
• Alter the Landscape: You have control—if something feels unsafe, change it.
• Write Everything Down: Keeping a Mindscape Journal helps track patterns and growth.
Tumblr media
Advanced Techniques for Deeper Exploration
1. Shadow Work in the Mindscape
• Visit dark or hidden areas, recognizing suppressed aspects of yourself.
• Ask entities: “What do you represent?”
• Face fears safely by observing rather than reacting.
• Bring light into darkness, healing wounds by offering love and acceptance.
2. Strengthening Astral Constructs
• Create permanent structures, like a protection temple or energy wellspring.
• Reinforce portals for astral travel beyond your mindscape.
• Program guardian spirits or sigils into your space for continued protection.
3. Inviting Spirit Guides & Higher Knowledge
• Call upon deities, ancestors, or totem animals.
• Ask direct questions: “What must I learn?” and listen for responses.
• Receive symbolic messages, later analyzing their deeper meanings.
4. Astral Projection & Mindscape Expansion
• Find a high place (a tower, mountaintop, or floating island).
• Set the intent to project beyond yourself.
• Visualize leaving your mindscape while maintaining awareness.
5. Strengthening Protection
• A protective wall or boundary around key areas.
• A guardian spirit or familiar stationed at the entrance.
• A shield of light around yourself when exploring.
Safely Exiting the Mindscape
It’s crucial to leave your mindscape properly to avoid lingering in an altered state.
Closing the Session:
• Visualize returning to a door, portal, or staircase leading back to waking consciousness.
• Affirm: “I return to my body, fully present and grounded.”
• Take deep breaths and wiggle fingers/toes.
• Drink water and write down insights immediately.
Exploring your astral mindscape is a lifelong practice that deepens with time. As you return, you may find it changing—reflecting your personal growth and challenges. Trust your intuition, move at your own pace, and always practice with intent.

So, there’s been a big buzz about Team Fortress 2 after the prodigal son of Comic 7 came to us, and ya wanna know what the buzz is about, hm? this post will be a guide to the basics of getting into tf2, and becoming more familiar with the fandom, from a dude who's been in it for bout fourish years
INTRO
Well, to start things off, TF2 is a game created by Valve in 2007, aka the creators of the video game marketplace Steam and the extremely popular video games Half-life and Portal. There are also some theories that they all exist in the same universe, but this only is canon to HL and Portal some people will say it also contains tf2 but ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The video game is free on Steam, that is with a massive asterisk as it does contain in-game purchases with real money, for  which you have to purchase a pass at 2 dollars to be able to talk in game or use voice commands. Valve says this is to protect against bots but the bot problem has been over for months and it still hasn’t been solved so what are ya gonna do? For much cheaper, you can go into the mann co store in game and purchase a vitasaw for .22 cents and viola you can talk now!
Something to note is that you do not need to play the game to engage with the fandom. I’ve been running a semi-popular TF2 gimmick blog for almost three years now and I’ve noted that maybe 20-30% of the fandom has never touched the game or even has steam. All of the fancy lore is purely supplemental material found outside of the game through comics, and you could easily just watch videos containing all of the voice lines if you truly wanted to know what the men you were drawing and writing sounded like.
THE ACTUAL GAME
Regardless, TF2 itself is a first-person shooter with game modes such as payload, king of the hill/control points, and capture the flag if you’re feeling spicy. If you’ve played overwatch, this is that but it won’t trigger epilepsy by playing it. There's also alterate gamemodes such as payload race where both teams are trying to get a payload to the other side, medieval mode where basically any guns are banned and you are slapping people with swords and fish, as well as pass time which nobody plays but has an extremely obscure and complicated achievement attached to it.
There are also community servers where there are extensively more options for playing, such as casual+ servers where the goal is creating a “better” version of the casual servers. This usually means no crits, changes to bullet spread, aka stuff most non comp players Within these community servers, there's many different gamemodes you can play, such as 10x servers where the damage weapons do gets increased 10x 100x 10000000000x etc etc. There are also “fun” servers where the server owner has put about 100 different plugins and you are just having fun non-serious times. It’s fun.
There are way more community game modes out there for you to enjoy; such as vs Saxton Hale/freak fortress, dodgeball, prop hunt, and plenty more. Explore that community tab to your heart's desire :]
Also! TF2 has a game known as Mann vs Machine(usually called MVM) where you and six other people all kill thousands of robots who are trying to get a bomb to the other side of the map throughout multiple rounds. It’s good fucking fun man. If you want the chance for loot/an extremely rare form of a weapon if you play a map enough, it’s 72 cents per ticket…….but if you don’t care and just want mindless fun, go boot camp and play for free. Boot camp also has way more maps, and often has charity drives hosted by the community where you can earn a neat little badge.
The game also has an extensive player player-driven economy, but unless anyone asks for a post with the basics since I know more about the economy than I’d like, I’ll just say you don’t need to worry about it. lollichop stocks
THE VIDEOS
Now, for the part, most people know about TF2, aka the Meet the Team series of videos. These are a series of 1-3 minute videos on the Valve YouTube channel that introduce the mercs through a consistently inconsistent format. A few of the videos are formatted like an actual interview with the mercs, while others are formatted more like mini TV shows. They’re all wonderfully entertaining and the source of multiple extremely popular memes, meaning even if you don’t know it you’ve been exposed to the videos before. Most famously, it’s the source of the “professionals have standards” image as well as “he could be any one of us”.  It’ll take you around 15 minutes to binge all of the videos. Even if you aren’t interested in getting TF2, I’d heavily recommend watching the videos due to how funny they are, plus genuinely good-looking 3d animation. The link is right here
There’s also Expiration Date, aka the pilot of the canned TF2 adult swim show. It’s also up on the valve’s channel and is around 15 minutes. It is probably one of the best things Valve has made for TF2, as well as being probably one of the most quoted shit on this godforsaken internet. It’s where the “dear god, there’s more” meme is from. Watch it. Right now. it's only like 15 minutes, what else are you doing with your time?
THE COMICS
This is where all that juicy lore is. Over the last 17 years, the valve has released free comics to go along with the major updates of TF2, as well as a main series of comics called “mann co no More”. The last comic in this series, which only took about 7 years to come out, aka the length of time someone could have a child and then have that child be in elementary school, was released a few weeks ago as of writing out.
Something to note is that while the update comics are all mostly goofy and do contain some *very important lore*, they’re not serialized and can be from anywhere within the TF2 timeline. Meanwhile, Mann Co No More is a serialized comic and is trying to be a consistent story. It’s an extremely goofy story with about 40% serious and genuinely interesting plot and 60% whatever the fuck soldier is doing at any given moment
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
It’s all very good fun. Fair warning though if you try to become a TF2 loremaster you will go insane. I sure as hell did.
And now that you have all of the official stuff out of the way, it’s time for
TF2 YOUTUBERS
For your beginner in the fandom, there are three main YouTubers I would personally recommend
Lazypurple, my personal favorite TF2 YouTuber, is most famous for his series of videos “How it FEELS to play __” where he goes over what it's like to play any given class. Except medic. He’s still working on that one. Give him time. https://www.youtube.com/@LazyPurple
Another I’d recommend is Soundsmith, most well known for his guide series on playing the soldier subclass(aka alternate game style) of troldier. And also his cosmetic stereotypes series but he doesn’t like that one these days. He also has a series of videos called “A mann’s guide to the __” where he goes over a more obscure or not very used weapon in TF2. Don’t let the title fool you, it is in no way an actual guide. As a quick warning, Soundsmith sometimes uses the R slur in his older videos. He no longer uses it but just as a warning. https://www.youtube.com/@SoundSmithTF2/videos
Finally, there’s Uncle Dane, most famous for his guides on playing Engineer in the most optimal way possible. If you want to main Engie or even have a passing thought about playing him ever, watch him. https://www.youtube.com/@UncleDane
For some other picks on favorite tf2tubers of mine:
jontohil2: https://youtube.com/c/Jontohil2 most famous for his spy psychology series and guides on playing spy
solar light: https://youtube.com/@SolarLight?feature=sharea most famous for his guides on playing the subclass demoknight and also being the best demoknight player par noneelmaxo https://youtube.com/c/elmaxoTF2 most famous for trying to manipulate the steam marketplace that one time and for his playing 100 hours series. He’s retired nowadays but his videos are still good.
and now
TF2 FAN CONTENT
Sfms:
Source Filmmaker, AKA SFM, is a free animation software developed by Valve originally developed for use in the Meet the Team series of videos that is available for public use. The main draw to the software is the ability to make (easier) 3D animation using premade models that are either built into the software or added in through the steam workshop. Due to TF2 and various other valve properties being built into the software, TF2 is often used as placeholder models for SFM videos. But a good chunk of the SFM community are TF2 fans using it to make fancontent(the most famous ones I will get into later)
Some personal favorite SFM makers mine are:
The winglet https://youtube.com/c/tf2thewinglet most famous for winning every saxxy ever
kostamoinen https://youtube.com/@Kostamoinen?feature=sharea most famous for nothing in particular but just generally being a very good sfm maker
https://www.youtube.com/@SilentManJoe/videos most famous for animating for lythero and not being someone you should watch if you’re under 18 generally
And for some underrated picks:
Misan - https://www.youtube.com/@Misantropico
Hotpockette- https://www.youtube.com/@hotpockette/videos
Colonel fantzipanzen- https://www.youtube.com/@ColonelFanzipantzen/videos
GMOD:
Garry’s Mod,, AKA Gmod, is a sandbox game made as a mod of half life 2. It’s not meant to be an animation software, but dude to some extensions you can download off the workshop, it can be used as a stop motion software with the ragdolls in the game. This is how people animated before SFM was a thing by the way.
GMOD is most famous for being the source of the most batshit tf2 shit you’ll ever see that also doubles as humorus body horror. TF2’s early fandom humor was based off of gmod. And before you ask, skibidi toilet is an SFM series, not gmod despite the similar humor.
The most famous GMOD maker is stblackst, who makes some of the highest quality shit you can make in GMOD. However, he often uses the r slur and some of his videos contain some extremely uncomfortable jokes, but unfortunately that’s how it is sometimes.
Another famous and classic gmod creator is thatgraycartoonpony, most famous for his video “Pyro Paints” that showed everyone that you CAN make pyro funny and expressive. Some of the best.
Finally in our most famous gmod creator trinity, there’s eltorro64rus, most famous for his absolutely insane gmod videos even for gmod. He’s a classic https://youtube.com/c/Eltorro64Rus
For my personal favorite picks:
Dasmashidx- https://www.youtube.com/@DamashiDX
Crazyscoutfin- https://www.youtube.com/@CrazyScoutFIN
Alxium- https://www.youtube.com/@Alxium
Gooserious- https://www.youtube.com/@GooSerious
FAN GAMES:
Something that’s not talked about a lot for some reason!
The two main fan games I’ll discuss here are both by germanpeter on gamejolt
Overtime- https://gamejolt.com/games/overtime/255028
This one of germanpeter’s two crossover tf2 games. Here it’s a crossover of TF2 and Undertale. A legitemtnly fun experience and a good undertale fangame. Fair warning, the sprites are vaguely terrifying.
Midnight Mercenaries- https://gamejolt.com/games/midnightmercenaries/375928
Another crossover game, this one being a crossover of TF2 and Hotline Miami. One of the most fun fan games ive ever played period. Fair warning, if you know what hotline miami is like tone wise, it’s carried over here. Ending may be a bit too angsty and depressing for some people.
Capture the Intelligence- https://gamejolt.com/games/gmod-capture-the-intelligence/850383
This one is not made by germanpeter! It’s a short horror game with heavy early 2010s gmod inspiration and is pretty goofy. I haven’t personally played it due to time, but I’ve  heard it’s good.
and now
FANDOM ESSENTIALS
Emesis Blue (and Spy’s disguise)
Emesis blue is a horror film created by the studio Fortress films that came out in 2023. It is one of the most popular sfms in the TF2 fandom ever, and is a full length movie. Seriously, it’s two hours long. I don’t wanna spoil it but I promise it’s good.
However, it’s technically a sequel to another Fortress Film SFM called spy’s disguise. This one is only 20 minutes, and much more humorous than Emesis blue. It is full of body horror though whoops! I would recommend watching it beforehand though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MiJWNkmWfs - spy’s disguise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0ODG8bFme0&t=4s - Emesis blue
Pootis Engage
A sfm two part series by the wonderful ceno0 that completely changed the SFM landscape. It is so fucking well animated I can’t stress this enough. It is also extremely horny so I’d only watch if you’re of age.
Pootis engage - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl6lee2wyPQ&list=PLvgjnNWlcA0x_WMVzuZquKYwTFVbiBekn&index=1&t=144s&pp=iAQBPootis engage// extreme - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGJBUauU-CE&list=PLvgjnNWlcA0x_WMVzuZquKYwTFVbiBekn&index=2&t=134s&pp=iAQB
The Heavy is Dead
Aka that video we as a fandom are annoying about. A video by the wonderful gmod creator Delak, who doesn’t really do TF2 nowadays, you need to watch it. Not optional sorry
Freak Fortress:
Have you been wondering what the hell is up with those weird edgy looking versions of Tf2 characters? And why some of them consider communion to be literally eating Jesus’s flesh?
Well, Freak Fortress is a  community of people who make videos using GMOD with community created characters called “Freaks”. You know how SPC is a community/fandom of people who make SPCS and then everyone uses SPCS in their own stories and whatnot? It’s like that. The freaks are usually mercs with specific cosmetics or alterations to their models that act as their own chracters rather than being the mercs.
The most famous ones being
Painis Cupcake - https://tf2freakshow.fandom.com/wiki/Painis_Cupcake
Christian Brutal Sniper- https://tf2freakshow.fandom.com/wiki/Christian_Brutal_Sniper
And Christian Pure Spy- https://tf2freakshow.fandom.com/wiki/Christian_Pure_Spy
You may notice I linked wiki pages and not videos or playlists. This is due to a few reasons
CPS’s videos are all taken down and you have to watch them through archived channels now, which are pretty hard to find with youtube’s shitty search engine
So many people make different videos with just these three characters, it’s better just to look at the video section of the wiki pages and go through there
If you wanted to get into Freak Fortress, I’d reccomend finding a freak you like on the wiki and then binging all of the videos linked on their page.
My two personal favorites:
Soldine -  https://tf2freakshow.fandom.com/wiki/Soldine
Polish Soldier- https://tf2freakshow.fandom.com/wiki/Polish_Soldier
Lil Pootis:
A cute little kind of extremely dark at some points 2d animated series of tf2 videos by the wonderful Quazies. The series is going to be completed for good soon, but as of right now there are nine videos
and that should be about it. if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. or if you want any gmod reccomendations. i fucking love gmod woo

I've been thinking a lot about #FixTF2 and I know that some might have their doubts about the movement, however, I've realized that, even if it does not succeed in getting Valve's attention, it will end up contributing towards an important development in recent years - the shift in the public perception of Valve.
If you are person who was growing up in the early 2010's then you obviously remember how Valve games were essentially the cultural zeitgeist of the time, how you would see pictures of King Gaben on every meme/YouTube thumbnail during a Steam Summer Sale. As I understand it, Valve essentially rode this wave of good will throughout the 2010's. Even when everyone was getting frustrated with the lack of sequels for games such as HL2 and L4D2, some people would just excuse it with "ah y'know Valve, not communicating and not doing anything is just their style, this is just probably part of Gaben's 5D chess - tier master plan". However, the cracks in this image have been slowly showing up for a long time:
Portal fans haven't had anything since Portal 2's release back in 2011. We have had some small VR titles but that's hardly any consolation.
Left for Dead 2 came out all the way back in 2009 with nothing afterwards. As of June of 2024, the game still has more than 10 thousand concurrent players yet it is also unplayable for a significant amount of people due to reported DDos attacks.
The suffering of Half - life fans at this point is a meme in itself. The only thing we got was HL:Alyx back in 2020 and, even though it's a very good game, it was inaccessible to a lot of people at launch due the costs and lack of VR hardware. We were left on a cliff-hanger AGAIN and four years later we have no news of any follow-up.
In my opinion, Valve to some extent could ignore these fandoms since they were smaller compared to their big earners. But it is the recent issues with these bigger titles that have started to test everyone's patience and tolerance for Valve's bullshit:
Team Fortress 2 - I mean what else is there to say: rampant cheating and idle bots, bot hosters doxxing and swatting people. The bots crisis has been destroying the game for the past 5 years. If we remember the original SaveTF2 movement, it had a more positive tone, i. e., people talking about how much they love the game and pleading Valve to fix it. Well, one shitty tweet and two years later the tone has gone from "Please fix the game" to "FIX THE FUCKING GAME YOU ASSHOLES" and rightfully so.
CS2 also has a myriad of issues. CS:GO became CS2 after the game jumped to the Source 2 engine, but the resulting game, by many accounts, is a downgrade. A lot of game modes and maps from the original game were not included and are still not present as of June of 2024. Cheaters are rampant. To what degree I cannot say but it is to an extent where a significant enough portion of the player base is affected. Also, the game hasn't had an operation (major content update) since 2021. The player count is still high, but a lot voices in the community have been chewing out Valve for this level of incompetence.
With DOTA 2 I cannot say for sure. Some people talk about neglect whilst others say the game is in a decent state considering the game still gets frequent updates and patches. At most I can say that there is a portion of players that are dissatisfied with the state of the game but most likely to a much lesser extent than in the previous cases.
HOWEVER
All of that is just one part of the double whammy, the second part is probably is much worse than the first - a lack of continuity for Valve's legacy.
I mean, let's think about it for a second here: most of us who grew with the Valve classics are probably in our mid-to late twenties at this point. Of course, I'm not saying that there aren't any younger fans but the bulk is the old guard. I'm pretty sure a lot of kids and teenagers don't even know a lot about these games and it's not their fault, they weren't old enough to experience them. The blame lies SOLELY with Valve because they have done NOTHING to boost the visibility of their older series due to the fact that they haven't bothered to make a single proper sequel for any of them.
And speaking of visibility, Valve's advertising strategy is non - existent and downright insulting . They really have this holier-than-thou perception of themselves, where they think "I am THE Valve softworks, makers of TF2 and Half-Life! How could you NOT know of us?!?!" and then expect everyone else to spread news of their games through word-of-mouth. Like, I'm sorry, Gabe, but we don't owe you shit. I'm not gonna advertise your shitty card-game and upcoming mediocre 5v5 hero shooter just because I had fun playing TF2 back in high school. Like, it's no surprise that you're not gaining any new fans when this has been your modus operandi for the past 10 years.
TO CONCLUDE
This is where we are right now: the old guard is either apathetic or straight-up hates Valve for their negligence, the younger generation barely knows about most of Valve's OG game series due to the lack of any meaningful output. At the end of the day, Valve isn't going to bankrupt, they're gonna keep taking their 30% cut from Steam and peddling gambling addictions to kids via cases. However, the era of good will is over, nobody is cutting them any slack anymore and, frankly, they deserve all the shit that's going to get thrown at them.

day 2 update
KULCS Day 2 Update Community: -has thoroughly deconstructed the map, including various prop pieces and brush chunks, but not very relevant -Cones identified as a potential key lead since they seem to have distinct positions, though not sure why -The various floating props seem to be interacting very specifically with the lighting, shadows and light seem to be displaying shapes of numbers/letters/symbols? -Lots of various ciphers/cryptographic methods tested on aspects of the map but nothing appears to bear much fruit. I’m also personally doubtful the engine would generate anything this complex but that’s just my opinion -People have tried moving the map/lighting around to generate new shadows, but nothing seems to have come from this. My End: -Been spending a lot of time looking around the map myself but still can’t really figure anything out myself In game nothing has really changed, except the figure occasionally seems to spawn in different places -Tried some suggestions but nothing worked. For example, HL2 cheat codes don’t work because I can’t jump, shoot, or use flashlight -In video attached, looking around but nothing is new or changed, still can't move or do anything Other Notes: -Personally I’m feeling that deconstructing the map isn’t going anywhere significant. I have also tried a lot of things on the vmf end but I’m convinced that there’s something about how it’s set up currently -People have been sending me lots of suggestions but there’s too much for me to get to. I won’t be able to try everything you guys suggest + it could take me weeks to really get to everything Maybe I’m going a bit crazy too, but I just realized this entire debacle is happening around the 2 year anniversary of INTERLOPER 3, which was the first time I had to lean on you guys for help. Again thanks everyone for your help, and keep me posted
the sillouette is back.
Additionally, there was a conversation that took place in another person's tf2 server that hosted the Kulcs map:
This is a transcript of TF2 chat messages between Anomi and Autumn-, when Anomi joined Autumn's server hosted on kulcs. Video of encounter -- START -- Anomi has joined the game Autumn- : WHAT Anomi joined team BLU Autumn- : ANOMI?1 Anomi : find anything? Autumn- : uh no? Autumn- : How are you here? Autumn- : This is like a local server? Anomi : u have the checkbox turned on Anomi : its a new tf2 feature Autumn- : which one? Anomi : in create server Autumn- : huh Autumn- : interesting Anomi : theres a checkbox that lets steam host your listen server Autumn- : never thought the creator of the mystery would join Autumn- : also the most interesting thing by far I've connected is Autumn- : is that the images in the out of bounds are Autumn- : somehow connected to the games yo uare able to play this map? Autumn- : It works in half-life 2 Anomi : idk Autumn- : and portal Autumn- : I tested it Anomi : it does? Autumn- : yep Autumn- : if you put it in the og portal's map folde Autumn- : *folder Autumn- : and do the 'map kulcs' command Autumn- : it'll send you here also Autumn- : the xbox version is obvious cuz y'know Autumn- : Interloper d? Autumn- : oh wait Autumn- : well I am only saying it cuz Autumn- : the images also have the half-life 2 xbox cover Anomi : like the 360? Anomi : orange box Anomi : yeah Autumn- : that's interesting Anomi : I played a LOT of orange box Autumn- : Never got to play it, was too youn for it lol Anomi : me too but I borrowed it Autumn- : ah ok Autumn- : anyway uh Autumn- : everybody keeps thinking cuz of the vrad thing Autumn- : that the shadows have secrets Autumn- : like it's somehow a code Anomi : I kind of agree I think Autumn- : idk how it works Anomi : like this Autumn- : well no Anomi : I'm kind of looking at this thing Autumn- : some shadows connect to look like symbols Autumn- : what do you see? Anomi : it is just me or does this look like a letter e? Autumn- : i mean.. kinda? Autumn- : the top thing makes it look like so Autumn- : but there have been shadows that make them look like letters Autumn- : idk where Anomi : OH i see it Anomi : stand here Autumn- : I could find a youtube video with them Anomi : look this way Autumn- : oh yeah Anomi : you know I should open this in vr and see if I can find more of these Autumn- : hm.. Autumn- : oh yeah Autumn- : wait I am curious really Autumn- : since kulcs is hungarian for key Autumn- : and the key you showed in INTERLOPER D Autumn- : could they be connected? Anomi : i thought so but I have no idea Anomi : thats been the thing for the last weeks Autumn- : huh.. Anomi : but like serial keys arent literal keys so Autumn- : yeah but since it's source Anomi : it's a little too silly 90's Autumn- : some things could be literal Autumn- : idk Autumn- : seems usual for entities within the engine Anomi : I'm gonna look around some more, let me know if you see or find anything cool Autumn- : ah ok Anomi left the game (Client Disconnect) -- END --

myhouse.wad-adjacent facts and blatant shilling for the musicians who soundtracked it
As has been largely disseminated, new mappers making levels based on their own houses are a common trope in the doom community, and they are often referred to generically as "myhouse.wad". The earliest myhouse maps are actually some of the oldest Doom maps in existence, predating Doom 2 (also at least one Doom 2 map was based on Sandy Peterson's house...)
A lot of people are impressed with myhouse.wad's room over room. I'm more impressed that in the first house myhouse used a boom-style silent teleporter to implement room-over-room sloppily so that the illusion very easily breaks (just step back up the stairs while one of the basement doors is open: it will snap shut because you are being teleported back into the version of the house with an upstairs, and thus there can't be an open door there), just like an inexperienced mapper might in 1999, before using modern GZDoom portals to do it more convincingly in the second house.
There's been a lot of theorizing about myhouse's author, probably because veddge is a very very competent mapper and also because everyone who does know who the author is has stonewalled inquiries at the author's request, implying that the author has a meaningful identity in the Doom community. Or maybe they're just shy. However, DavidXNewton noted in his analysis series on myhouse that it does a lot of things in a ways that are unnecessary using modern UDMF and ZScript but would be familiar to someone coming from a less advanced mapping format like Boom or Old ZDoom. This is indicative of Veddge being more along the lines of what he says he is: either someone truly returning after a long absence, or at the very least someone who isn't terribly familiar with modern GZDoom mapping. Either that, or the entire map was mapped in character. I genuinely don't know which I'd find more impressive.
"doomcute" is a term used to refer to maps that recreate real-world items or environments in doom (usually because the immediate reaction from players is "oh that's adorable!"). Myhouse maps are invariably trying for doomcute, but another early doomcute map was Shamus Young's Doom City from 1995 (yes, Shamus Young of DM of the Rings fame. I discovered while researching that he actually died last year. Rest in peace). Doom City recreated a couple of real-world looking buildings, but the thing everyone seems to remember about Doom City is its recreation of... a gas station. Food for thought.
Hilariously, myhouse almost got lost in the shuffle on Doomworld, because most people weren't looking for a myhouse.wad to play. Several of Veddge's collaborators posted in the thread to keep this from happening.
I believe Veddge's confirmed collaborators on myhouse are Kevansevans, esselfortium, and Jimmy. I don't know much about Kevansevans, but I believe he helped with the scripting and some of his scripting work from other sources made it into the wad because he's officially credited (as is everyone whose work was used in the map: it's all inside the PK3). Essel and Jimmy are credited only in anagram form because they are responsible for the music, which is actually wholly original (also Jimmy gave no indication he was involved until it was revealed by players unscrambling the anagram, which was very very funny).
I'm actually going to talk about Essel and Jimmy in detail over the next few bullet points, because I feel like it. And they're both really neat.
Sarah "esselfortium" Mancuso is responsible for memory=entryrrrr/////, the piece the plays in the burned house and various other places throughout the wad. She's composed professionally for video games and has several albums, but in the Doom community she's probably best known for creating and managing the Back to Saturn X project, a trilogy of megawads (only two of which are presently released) being developed by a massive team of modders, with custom assets, a custom palette, a complete original OST, and some very impressive maps... all intended to be playable with a vanilla doom2.exe. Which is insane: Vanilla Doom is brutal to map for, on account of harsh limitations that it's hard to be confident your map or project falls within. Back to Saturn X was so ambitious that it found previously undiscovered ways that Doom can crash. Of course, in addition to running the project, Essel also mapped for it, made textures for it, and composed a significant portion of the soundtrack. And because that was not impressive enough apparently, Essel also (with some help from a few others) created Knee-Deep in Knee-Deep in ZDoom, a joke wad that takes the (in)famous Knee-Deep in ZDoom, a mapset designed to show off the features of ZDoom, and recreates as many of its tricks as it can entirely in vanilla. A feat I can only describe as black magic of the highest order. She also went out of her way to say Trans Rights during her bethesda interview, so that's cool too.
James "Jimmy" Paddock is responsible for the increasingly glitchy and messed-up version of D_RUNNIN that plays in the second house. Which figures, because Jimmy's music is everywhere. He takes commissions for music, he's contributed free music to the community, and his music is very very popular. Notable wads he's contributed tracks to include Plutonia 2, Speed of Doom, Reverie, Back to Saturn X Episodes 1 and 2, Eviternity, and Doom 2 In Spain Only, and the MIDI soundtrack to John Romero's SIGIL, which some consider to be even better than the Buckethead soundtrack. He also is the project lead and mind behind The Adventures of Square, a standalone, free game made in GZDoom, he's done texture work, he's made several award-winning doom mods (cacowards, that is), mapped for numerous other projects, and had just done a whole ton of stuff. The doom community gave him an award for lifetime achievement. Oh, and he did an alternative MIDI OST for Prodeus? Genuinely didn't know about that.
While researching this I learned that Jimmy is going to be evicted in a month, so now's a great time to check out his music online and see if you're into it. I'm not a super fan of his vocal delivery, but I really like some of his instrumentals and MP3 versions of his MIDIs.

Pretty much my ideal dcxdp coexisting world
Danny had all his canon happen before Bruce and the JL started their vigilante careers
Before Bruce was born or Martha and Thomas even got married
Phantom Planet never happened and the world never realized that they were almost dead in the first place (I apologize for mentioning it)
Danny retires after blowing up the portal and designing a new system of gov for the Infinite Realms (why the hell is that a monarchy anyway? Fighting being a way of communicating AND the way of determining a ruler does not make sense so I'll choose the better one)
Danny still visits the Infinite Realms but mostly lives his life
He still has interesting things happen to him but more because he apparently has a curse placed on him than anything else 'may you live in interesting times'
Danny manipulates the curse by getting into situations on purpose and then resolving them without getting attention drawn to his civilian id and normal life
He keeps track of immortals and big names that deal with death magic so as to lower the chances of being summoned
The more powerful the Realm Being the more powerful the summoner has to be to summon them and with how powerful Danny is there aren't many he has to keep an eye on
Ra's has been losing Lazarus water at a steady rate for over a decade but only now has it become a noticeable loss. The day the that he notices is a Very Bad Day for the League of Assassins (the day Danny lets himself get caught satisfies his curse for 2 whole months)
Danny hasn't aged much at all since he left Amity at 17. He's still short but mimics the effects of age with stage makeup and other tools used by actors to look older they actually are. This is how he meets a certain Alfred P. who remains a good friend even though they never really meet in person.
His parents blow themselves up and wipe their house off the map when tinkering with a device designed to lure realm beings to them. Danny isn't really sorry they're gone. He finds out after leaving Amity that he wasn't really their kid and he wasn't even adopted. They made him in their lab while distracted from their obsession with ghosts then completely forgot they had done so when they refocused on ghosts. His growth chamber (terrible name) was coated in ecto which allowed the device to reactivate and allow Danny to finish incubating into a toddler then (suspicious) it mysteriously popped him out before his the fentons noticed the growth chambers success.
His parents never took any notes on the clone experiment out of the house due to it being a (perceived) failure. After going back to their ghost obsession they completely forgot about it so no one knows. Jazz only found after Danny told her and he only found out after growing older and continuing to look less and less like either of his parents.
Danny finds the notes and that's what inspires him to leave Amity, to start looking for his bio parent. The Fenton's had no clue that the clone they grew was Danny. They dismantled the growth chamber when Danny was four (actually two) and never realized that the toddler they adopted was the clone of wonder woman they made. They never said anything to anyone about Danny being adopted so Vlad has no idea that Danny isn't Maddie's child.
Vlad starts to age drastically after the portals are destroyed and Danny figures out that Vlad isn't a halfa after all. He's just a normal ghost who can prey on people like spectra but with an obsession directed at Maddie originally and then Danny. Afterwards Vlad gets shunted off into Walker's prison because of all the toxic and human crimes he's committed among them brainwashing, mind control and mind wiping various wealthy and not so wealthy individuals into giving Vlad their money and companies.
Ellie has to explore the Infinite Realms (literally Infinite though so she's not confined) only because she can't really produce her own ecto. She has to absorb it from her surroundings so she can wander safely all over the Infinite Realms (so long as she calls for help when she gets in over her head) but not the human realms unless she takes a buddy who can produce a steady stream of ecto for her.
Vlad makes Danny his heir so now he's rich enough to travel even after giving all the people Vlad stole from their money back. It turns out that Vlad was good with making more money once he had it.
just Danny being a crptoid for the entire magical community and them being unable to talk about it if they even know of him
while danny runs a NASA and space account where he talks about NASA's recent achievements, newly discovered stars, planets and new alien races that Earth has been in contact with

Need to veeeent.
So we are almost a week without internet. We were with Rogers for TWENTY YEARS, and over those 20 years every interaction we had with Rogers was a huge fucking mess, stemming from the fact that, waaay back when we were in college, if you wanted their normal services AND their cell phone services, it was two separate accounts. Eventually they decided to merge those two accounts and informed us after the fact. Whatever they did to merge them? Completely locked us out of being able to view and pay bills online through Rogers' interface.
Over the years, we would call Rogers for one reason or another (just switching around and then eventually slowly cancelling all services with them except for internet) and every single time they'd be like "so we see you are still receiving paper bills. we are going paperless and phasing this out, so can we get you to pay through the online portal?" and every time we would have to explain that no, we needed paper bills because their broken ass system made even logging into the portal impossible.
Without fail, whatever intrepid techie would say, "don't worry, we will walk you through it, I'll get this fixed!" completely sure that they would be the one to hold our presumably tech illiterate hands though baby's first reset password sequence and then tell us to hit okay and watch the magic happen! Only for us to get the same error message that every other tech over the years got, have us read it out to them, have them be stumped, have them tell me that they have never encountered this before, that their supervisor is also stumped, and how about we just put a pin in that and see if there's a solution in the future! We will keep sending you paper bills for as long as we can (eventually they did stop and we had to have them email our bills to our personal emails directly as a work around solution).
We first encountered this issue when we were 19 years old and living with roomates. We have both recently turned FORTY.
Anyhow, flash to last week. The internet goes out after a day where we had freezing rain, no big deal, it happens. Oddly, I'm not seeing anyone complaining about internet outages in the local Facebook communities, which makes me think, 24 hours later when it still hasn't come on again, that it might just be us. We call Rogers and a nice lady on the phone tries to walk us through cycling the router (a thing we have done in the past 24 hours about 50 times and have been doing for years), and in the process of doing this, we discover that the issue is that our old ass Rogers router has kicked the bucket when she has us unplug it and plug it back in and it just...doesn't turn back on. We tell her the model, she says OH BOY THAT'S ANCIENT, LET ME SEND YOU A NEW ONE! Just let me confirm your address!
And here is where the problems start. You see, a decade ago when we bought this house after living in it and renting it from my inlaws, my inlaws split the property down the middle and sold the other half to someone else. Even though our house shows up on Google maps, even though uber eats and various other delivery services have no problem finding our very real house with our new, updated house number (went from something like 1234 Main St., Unit 2 to 1232 Main St., no unit), Rogers tries to update our address in the system and their system is like...that's not a real house or address. We assure them that it is, and has been, for like a fucking decade. They tell us that they can't send us a new router until they have someone physically come out to our house and confirm that it is 1) real and 2) in their service area.
I need to be so clear that our house is in the exact same place it has been for over a hundred years, and that up until the router broke while tech support was trying to get us to cycle it, we had a 20 year old Rogers account for which we were paying bills! We had internet last week! And they were sitting there telling us that before we can have internet again, they need to send someone physically to our house to be like that's a house all right.
So Shay was like...you know what? Fuck this, please close our account, we are looking into your competitors. The dude on the phone (to be clear was just doing his job, I get that) offered to cut our bill down from $126/month to $50/month if we would reconsider, which only made Shay more pissed, because like...way to tip your fucking hand? Thank you for admitting you overcharge us for a service that you could have offered us better rates on literally any other time over the past 20 years? Fuck you, we aren't doing business with Rogers anymore!
So we close our account and call a competitor who offers us a better plan for $40/month, says they will have a router to us to self set up by today and didn't make us wait on hold for 45 minutes to do any of that.
The router arrives this morning at 9:30am, we set it up, and....no internet. Tech support is like not sure what's happening? So we explain the lot severence again, and they're like...okay so we run off of Rogers system. So we have to call Rogers, and have them send someone out to your house to physically confirm it is a real house, and we have to wait on them to do this because otherwise our system will refuse to believe that your house exists. So now we are waiting on a Rogers tech to be like yeah that's a house!
I just want internet, man. I have work to do, Shay is still trying to apply for jobs. My phone data for the month is almost completely used up and it is only the 6th!
Love that we left this bastard ass company and are STILL haunted by the spectre of their incompetence!

Haven't tried asking here yet. Here goes nothing.
I'm looking for game suggestions! Co-op games that work and are still fun with only 2 players. Online/local co-op only, no splitscreen. Ideally for Steam, but I will look into Switch or PS2/Playstation options. PLEASE read below on what we are and are not looking for, if you want to make a suggestion!
We like cozy games. Farming sim games, puzzle-platformer games, sandbox/open-world games, (easy not-grindy) survival/craft games. We are looking for games with a LOT of content in them, and/or games with the theoretically endless gameplay loop. We're looking to sink dozens to hundreds of hours into a game together, since playing videogames together is something we do for a few hours every night. Our bonding activity.
We are not looking for combat-heavy games. Shooter games. Sports games. Really hard and grindy games. Racing games. Not looking to jump into an MMO together. Not looking for an AMAZING game that only has 2 hours of content and zero replayability. No party or gameshow style games.
Games we do like but have played to death already:
Stardew Valley (vanilla and modded)
Wolfquest
Phasmophobia
PlateUp!
Minecraft (vanilla and modded)
Palworld
Webfishing
Trying out Portal 2 co-op mode today
Other games we have already played, or considered but haven't yet:
Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, we wish there was more stuff to do TOGETHER, instead of just running around in a shared map doing separate things
Lethal Company and Content Warning we have only ever played with our roommate/mutual friend, since with only 2 players they aren't that great
Donkey Kong Country trilogy on the Switch SNES emulator (Co-op mode in these games is just taking turns, which isn't fun for whoever's turn it isn't)
Viscera Cleanup Detail we have played only a little bit of, and got bored after one map. This feels like another game that is better with a bigger group of people
It Takes Two is on our list to try, but haven't gotten around to jumping through the EA hoops to set up a game together. To play online co-op, we both have to have EA accounts, and trying to set that all up was a huge hassle that we gave up trying to sort out.
Powerwash Simulator we played. It is fun, but very repetitive and not much to do and not much story.
Untitled Goose Game is very short, and we have already done everything in the game together
We've played some of the Lego games together, but those only offer splitscreen co-op, and with her bad eyesight fiancée really needs to be able to play on her own screen
Sun Haven gave me the ick. I got it for both of us right around when it released. But the way the dev team and staff in the discord server treated members making suggestions, and the way they prioritized generating paid cosmetic DLC over fixing bugs and glitches or implementing features that the entire community was begging for, as well as keeping kickstarter backers in the dark about when the Switch version was coming, it all rubbed me the wrong way. It felt like a soul-less Stardew Valley clone. There are also game design decisions that really made the game un-fun for both of us.

i always find it so enchanting when portal 2 community maps take place outdoors. the two games do such a good job of confining your world to the depths of the enrichment center that even just seeing the sky feels special.
