SUPERMAN: PRESIDENT LUTHOR
Howdy! I know I’ve said this before, but it really is time for me to get back to updating this blog on regular basis. So, today, for no particular reason (wink wink), I’ve chosen to review this specific comic book, which collects several stories from the year 2000, when DC Comics had Lex Luthor get elected President of the United States. Yeah, that’s right. DC had an evil billionaire with no…

When Funky Cold Christine Comes Down
Speaking of Read my Body. Didn't someone mention in a fan podcast that Tone Loc was originally invited to the Hot in the Shade recordings to rap on Read My Body? I think it was Paul Halligan Jr. who co-wrote Rise to It as well as Read My Body. Why should one doubt the man, moreover, this idea seems anything but absurd when I can't help but think of Tone Loc's 1989 hit Funky Cold Medina. And when I think of Funky Cold Medina, I obviously think directly of Christine Sixteen. And that means we've already left rap behind us again.
But let's politely take out the guitar part from Christine Sixteen, sampled on Funky Cold Medina, when it has already been served to us so beautifully on a silver platter. And while we're at it, then also also its small, extremely inconspicuous counterpart that can be found on Crazy Nights' When Your Walls Come Down. And by small I really mean just teeny tiny small. Just listen to it. Some of you might say: "Yes, of course, exactly! Ha, ha!". But maybe in the end the exact opposite will come out of it. And then, of course, I would look pretty stupid. Well, that's a risk I'm willing and have to take. But it is only up to you, anyway. Always.
I recommend that you only let these small sections run for 1-2 seconds at a time and then refresh the page, because it just whizzes by so quickly. So, click play, and be quick. Or be a lazy egg:

And so that Run DMC, the only real rappers here, don't feel too lonely Tone Loc's Funky Cold Medina:

Genesis returns, Beast goes over the edge, and more as the Fall of X looms
Genesis returns, Beast goes over the edge, and more as the Fall of X looms #comics #comicbooks #xmen #fallofx
Paying off plot threads that have been brewing since 2019’s House of X and Powers of X, Fall of X will determine if mutantkind’s prosperous Krakoan Age can truly last forever or if its foundation has doomed it from the start. Today, fans can check out the covers for X-Men titles on sale in July, the month before Fall of X officially begins. These issues represent the final chapters of Krakoa as…

what distinguishes Islam's relationship to the other Abrahamic religions and their texts from christian-style supercessionism? i mean i know that historically Muslim communities have often been better at religious plurality than christian ones, i just don't know what theological/structural factors contributed to that
From a purely neutral perspective, Islam has a concept called Tahrif, which translates to corruption or alteration. The idea is that the previous scriptures have either been tampered with or altered to such an extent that they aren't fully recognized as the 100% written word of God. Thus the Qur'an is established to function, not to replace the previous scriptures, as a new set of laws and guidelines for mankind. Although Islamically, the previous scriptures are considered corrupt, Islam does not reject Judaism or Christianity and do not consider either of them false, this is why the Qur'an refers to them as the People of the Book. For more information, see: the Consitution of Medina.
In terms of the Torah, the Qur'an expresses that the books of Moses are holy, but have been altered or tampered with to such a point that the book no longer could be considered the authentic word of God. However, the laws established are still binding to the Children of Israel. However, the Islamic concept of Tahrif is not concerned with the idea of denying the Laws of Moses, but rather see it as a law exclusive to the children of Israel, thus Muslims hold Paul the Apostle with animosity for tampering with Scripture and annulling various laws incumbent upon the Jewish people. Muslims deny that Jewish people killed Jesus, therefore rejecting the idea of deicide, since Muslims don't believe Jesus was God, nor do they believe that he died on the cross, so there was never a New Covenant formed in place the Old Covenant. As for the gospels, Islam does not recognize the four gospels as being part of the Holy canons, but hold that Jesus, the Prophet, was the Gospel, and that he was the Scripture, the Word so to speak. The Qur'an refers to the Gospel in a singular term, the Gospel of Jesus. Jesus preached his message and there were scribes who recorded his words, but those words have gone missing or have ever since been burnt by the Church, thus we do not have a Gospel of Jesus as we understand it in the Qur'an.
The important part to understand is that the Qur'an is not a book of historicities or chronological events, it is a book of laws and regulations.. Various biblical stories are brought up to establish the reason behind an established law, such as the impermissibility of eating pork.
Yes, there is the idea of supersessionism, but not in the style of Christianity.

In COVID-19 patients, neurological symptoms last up to three years - Published Aug 15, 2024
Effects include brain fog, fatigue and depression
Scientists from Northwestern Medicine and the School of Medicine at CES University and CES Clinic in Colombia have determined that more than 60% of people who contracted COVID-19 have neurological symptoms that impact their cognitive function and quality of life, even two and three years after COVID-19.
This finding resulted from a study with the longest follow-up time conducted in Latin America and was led by Dr. Igor J. Koralnik, chief of neuro-infectious diseases and global neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and Dr. Carolina Hurtado Montoya, with the School of Medicine at CES University in Medellín.
This study, the first in Colombia and Latin America to analyze persistent neurological symptoms, cognitive function and quality of life in long COVID-19 patients, demonstrates that the neurologic manifestations of long COVID are as frequent in Colombia as they are in the U.S.
The process Between April 2023 and December 2023, researchers evaluated the long-term effects of COVID-19 in a group of 100 Colombian patients, which included a group of 50 people, average age of 51, who presented moderate or severe disease and were hospitalized at the CES Clinic in Medellín. The other group of 50 patients were not hospitalized, had mild COVID-19 and were an average age of 36.
Among the most significant findings, the symptoms of ‘brain fog,’ characterized by cognitive dysfunction, was experienced by 60% of patients and fatigue was experienced by 74%. These two symptoms, along with depression, most affected their quality of life and cognitive function, in both the group of patients who required hospitalization (moderate and severe COVID-19) during the acute infection, and in people who had mild COVID-19.
These results were published August 13 in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience. The research group is finalizing details to begin a second phase of the study, focused on cognitive rehabilitation, to improve the functionality and quality of life of these patients. From this new effort, researchers expect to adapt and test a protocol that can later be implemented as a service at the IPS Universidad CES in Sabaneta, Antioquia, Colombia.
The numbers The most common neurological symptoms in patients with long COVID-19 were ‘brain fog’ in 60% of patients, muscle pain in 42% and numbness or tingling in 41%. Non-neurological symptoms were fatigue (74%), sleep problems (46%) and anxiety (44%).
Both patient groups also performed worse on processing speed and attention than the general population, the study reports.
“‘Brain fog’ and fatigue remained persistent regardless of the duration of long COVID, underscoring the need for comprehensive and long-term care for those affected by this condition,” the authors wrote.
Notes This analysis also involved medical students, physicians, neurology residents, neurologists, and researchers from CES University and CES Clinic, Diego Fernando Rojas-Gualdrón, Esteban Villegas Arbeláez, Salvador Ernesto Medina Mantilla, Mariana Campuzano-Sierra, Santiago Ospina-Patiño, Mariana Arroyave-Bustamante, Valeria Uribe-Vizcarra, Daniel Restrepo-Arbeláez, Paul Cardona, Julián Llano-Piedrahita, Santiago Vásquez-Builes, Esteban Agudelo-Quintero, Juliana Vélez-Arroyave, Sebastián Menges, as well as the team from Northwestern University including Gina S. Pérez Giraldo, Millenia Jiménez, Janet Miller and Yina M. Quique.
This collaboration was initiated by Dr. Gina Perez Giraldo who went to Medical School at CES University in Medellin, and was the recipient of a Global Neurology fellowship from the Havey Institute of Global Health at Northwestern.
