tw: hockey culture, homophobia, sa mention (hockey canada)
Bless Brock for bringing up this important point
Click thru and ofc you will see the inevitable horrendous homophobic replies on this tweet.
Now let's switch over to man's man hockeyman ryan whitney on masculine man podcast spittin chiclets
This screencap was posted here, initially on reddit, and ofc the replies are along the lines of:
"oh yea i didn't even think of that until whit pointed it out"
Once more further evidence of why pride jerseys are important. Why straight athletes showing allyship by wearing them and talking about pride is IMPORTANT.
But this goes deeper into the older gen's (the gatekeepers) hockey culture of not understanding the implications of standing up for these rights when they don't affect you personally but they do affect other ppl around you. This other part:
he = biz
biz may have accidentally stumbled into a win here and i fully commend him for sticking it out on the babcock issue. But he is still unaware of why this was a good course of action beyond 'my friends are hurt and I'm standing up for them.' He is still very much hockey culture.
He believes jarmo giving a second chance to someone who did zero work and showed zero evidence of having worked towards fixing his issues is totally fine bc he accepts it as part of hockey culture.
I remember i listened to their podcast after the provorov pride jersey game (bc yes sometimes i just want to hurt myself). Ofc they're modern men w openly gay friends, they shit-talked provorov as a typical asshole who knows nothing but hockey and should've been sat out for not warming up (which yay, felt great to hear). but beyond that, kinda it. (RA didn't get it which no big surprise.) Didn't fully talk about the big picture of what this kind of action leads to (which ta-da led to entire teams foregoing their pride jerseys, and the inevitable chickenshit bettman decision to nix all special jerseys). They have the ear of the entire manly man masculine hockeymen demographic but didn't take that opportunity.
So now i wonder if this is just how it/life/the world goes. As one of their own gets attacked, they take a stand. Empathy only applicable to their own and no one else.
Which reminds me of how all those old men who only stand up for women's rights only when they realize oh shit wait "i have a daughter, mother, sister" but y'all fuck your daughter, mother, sister.
Maybe progress will only happen by accident when idiots like biz are suddenly faced with the problems we've been harping on over and over and over are . oh shit. right at his own doorstep.
Hey btw London police, still waiting on that hockey canada 2018 wjc report and them 5 charges (should be 8 but ugh...) Let's hear it. Let's charge em and fire them from their jobs too.
#*deep breath in and out#venting is good. now off to the rest of my day#annieQ hockey thoughts#brock mcgillis#hockeyblr#paul bissonnette#ivan provorov#gary bettman#mike babcock#ryan whitney#spittin chiclets#tw homophobia#homophobia#pride jerseys#nhl garbage league#hockey culture#hockey canada#tw sa#sa

I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what’s the deal with Mitch and his dad? Last night prompted a lot of Mitch Daddy Issues Marner comments and I was kinda lost. I know he started hockey like. Ridiculously young and there was one video I saw where he mentioned something about like a hockey deal with his dad where he was like yeah I won’t get into that and it had iffy vibes but?
i don't know like. full full details either tbh. but there is this vid from when mitch was little and he and his dad were in a local news story and that's one of the first things i ever saw about mitch. i think his dad's just been a pretty extreme helicoptor parent and made disparaging comments about how ppl dont take mitch seriously bc of his personality and involved himself in mitch's contract negotiations w the leafs to a degree that reflected badly on mitch. i think you can tell how there are definitely problems with their relationship in the way he talks about his dad to the media and how his "father" knows not to mention hockey around him bc he doesn't want to hear it... the evolution of that relationship where mitch now no longer wants him involved. to me......... he just kind of seems like a guy that was like way too heavily invested in his young kid getting into this sport and there's definitely something fractured there bc mitch has a lot of warmth for his mom and his brother when he talks about his family, but sometimes his dad is excluded from that. (AND as a purely speculative section to this, it's interesting that mitch finds himself very attached to dad figures on the team like patrick marleau, matt martin, jumbo, muzz, bogo, etc... like clearly there are some Feelings there and potentially a paternal void that he likes to fill by glomming on to men who aren't afraid to give him affection praise and love that he definitely craves.... there's an essay to be written abt this but i'll save it for someone funnier)
#easks#ANYWYA paul marner kinda just seems like a scumbag#like . hung around a little too long and pushed himself into business he has no real necessary right to be in... made mitch look bad#by being demanding abt his salary n leadership status on the team n etc etc when#this is mitchs job and hes a grown man at this point l#from that clip hes just clearly the type of parent that has prioritized competitiveness over fun throughout mitchs childhood#like if hes like that in front of the cameras... i cant even imagine behind closed doors#im not trying to say hes evil i just think its amazing mitch has maintained such a positive outlook on the sport and his lifes trajectory w#a major factor like a Parent... acting like that lol#it rlly makes u think abt mitchs blueprint ep and how he said its not always easy to be the fun easy going guy but#its necessary... also makes u think abt mitchs treatment under babcock and why he had to lean so heavily on teammates n reminding himself#that this is all fun but i digress#mitch used to always make mothers day posts and never fathers day ones (i think.. if im recalling ig stalking correctly).. so that tells u

Dead Man's Eyes (1944)
"I wouldn't be surprised if this man were insane. He wouldn't be the first one who'd gone mad studying the processes of the mind."
"Precisely, Captain. I compliment you on your sagacity."
"You know, it's people like you that have caused me to steer clear of all this book psychology."

Universal's saddest lump of clay Lon Chaney‚ back doing what he does best (having a dreadful time)#he starts off in high spirits here; he's got it all‚ a career as an up and coming artist‚ a devoted model‚ a loving fiancee and her#moneybags patron father‚ and best of all he has a little shelf on which he keeps his big bottle of eyewash next to his identical big bottle#of acid. truly what more could a man ask for. but what's that... no Lon! surely not! whoever could have foreseen such a tragic incident..#so yeah Lon loses his eyes‚ then gets new eyes but may have murdered to get them. cue classic did he didn't he shenanigans and the usual#absurdly dickish cop poking in his nose and basically bullying everyone. high melodrama nonsense but for the first time this film shows#some cracks around the edges; the cast are more variable than in the previous films‚ with Acquanetta stilted and monotone while Ed Fielding#goes too far the other way as a constantly shouting and gesticulating father figure. outside of Lon‚ Gomez is probably the best value#and seems to be having genuine fun as the asshole investigating the case. not quite as good as sanctums 1 and 2 and with a touch more#chauvinism to it (particularly in the way Acquanetta is consistently described as moody or difficult‚ or how all the male characters#discuss Parker's romantic future without her even being present let alone asked) but it still has fun nonsense to be found

You know, the Columbus Blue Jackets should be THANKING Spittin' Chiclets and Biz. Bcos holy fuck, can you imagine what a fucking shitshow it would be if this (or something worse happens bcos it is Babcock & he'd have had more time to fuck over players) came out later in the season?
But yeah, listening to Steve Dangle's podcast, and they fucking lay in with Babcock and CBJ management. It is fucking glorious.
I do feel bad for the players pulled into this shitshow though. Le sigh.
ETA: You don't need to like Spittin' Chiclets & Biz, but you CAN'T deny that they are the most connected to the current active players, and they have players trust.

"There have been seven coach firings during the 2023-2024 season alone, and that’s not even counting the one that took place before training camp began! With the regular season coming to a close this week, let’s take some time to reflect on these fallen divas and how entertaining it was to watch them lose their jobs."

Can't believe I'm glad players trust biz enough to tell him shit
i hope this kind of dumbass hiccup in the road to redeeming one of their bullies throws a wrench in the plans for quenneville and bowman to return to the nhl. Especially since babcock did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to show growth and deserving of redemption. All he did was give interviews going boo hoo everyone's being so mean to me, and all the media and old hockeymen lapped it up and wrote glowing articles bc hey wait a minute I'm also an old man in hockey who everyone is so mean to and doesn't let me do whatever the hell i want

Scott Cousins at The (Alton) Telegraph:
EDWARDSVILLE – The Madison County Board took the step Wednesday night to pass a resolution that places a nonbinding advisory referendum regarding separating Chicago and Cook County from the rest of the state of Illinois. The referendum will be on the ballot for Madison County voters on Nov. 5. The board passed the resolution by a 15-7 vote with little explanation from board members for supporting it. Voting in favor were Fred Michael, Stacey Pace, Frank Dickerson, Valerie Doucleff, Michael Turner, Robert Pollard, Mike Babcock, Terry Eaker, Mob Meyer, Denise Wiehardt, John Janek, Ryan Kneedler, Paul Nicolussi and Chris Guy. Of the 15 votes to pass the resolution, 14 came from Republicans. Pollard was the only Democrat to vote in favor of the resolution. Most of the people voting in favor of the resolution gave no reason Wednesday night for their support of the resolution. Dickerson, R-Worden, and Eaker, R-Bethalto, both said voters in their districts were “overwhelmingly” in support of the referendum.
Voting no were Michael “Doc” Holliday, Bill Stoutenborough, Shawndell Wilson, Matt King, Victor Valentine, Alison Lamothe, and Nick Petrillo. Bobby Ross, Mick Madison, and Charles “Skip” Schmidt were absent. “I’m amazed this issue has come as far as it has,” Stoutenborough said. Stoutenborough said the idea of splitting the state was unpatriotic, a theme of several people during public speaking, and he stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, with some others on the board joining him. Stoutenborough tried to table the issue, but that motion failed by a vote of 12-10. The referendum will read “Shall the board of Madison County correspond with the boards of other counties of Illinois, outside of Cook County, about the possibility of separating from Cook County to form a new state and to seek admission to the Union as such, subject to the approval of the people?”
Last night, the GOP majority on the Madison County Board voted 15-7 on a nearly party-line vote to put the unpatriotic and economically ruinous separation referendum on the ballot in the November election. Robert Pollard was the lone Dem to vote in favor of putting it on the ballot.
The referendum is a symbolic vote, and I hope people vote against it come November.
Now-former Madco Dems chair Randy Harris said it best: "This is not a serious proposal."

Elizabeth: “well this case concerns the death of Eric Wagner, the defendant is Reina and she’s accused of bludgeoning and drowning Eric. The evidence we have for that is the autopsy report, Reina’s footprints, an ice cream man’s uniform, a ding a ling ice cream truck, the pool area of Wagner’s house which is the crime scene, the clock in Hanlons office, the fact both Wagners house and Paul hanlons office were bugged, and the fact that there is no murder weapon. For witnesses there is Walter Cunnell, Shirley Wagner, Eve Babcock, Coach Rizzo, Ralph Dobbs, and Paul Hanlon. I believe mister Hanlon is the culprit though it seems I can’t prove it.”
[PLAYER1]
The clock... can you tell me about that?

For the Nanny AU, I've gotten pretty far on who is who.
Fran Fine as Ted Lasso, Maxwell Sheffield as Rebecca Welton, Niles as Roy Kent, C. C. Babcock as Keeley Jones, Grace Sheffield as Phoebe Kent, Brighton Sheffield as Henry Lasso, Margaret Sheffield as Nora Collins, Val Toriello as Terry Beard, Sylvia Fine as Deborah Welton, Morty Fine as Paul Welton, Danny Imperiali as Rupert Mannion, Heather Biblow as Bex, Sara Sheffield as Michelle Lasso, and Nigel Sheffield as Sassy Collins. Adaptions of course to match the family/relationship structures in Ted Lasso ....
I just really can't decide for Yetta .... Who would get into shenanigans with Ted .... I want to say Jamie Tart or Leslie Higgins .... Making her Higgins makes it so Sammy Jones would have to be Julie, which I can get behind ....
I've probably thought about this too much ....
i love these but im cracking up that in this scenario deborah is ted's mom and rebecca is michelle's widow kjgeiehgihfd
i think id switch roy and keeley, roy is soooo C.C. and Keeley would make a great Niles
