Parveen Shakir is the finest poetess in the history of urdu literature:

“ye dukh nahi ke andheron se sulah ki humne, malal yeh hai ke ab subha ki talab bhi nahi.”

Har raat meri aankhein inhi sochon mein ghum ho jaati hain;

Ke mera maqsad-e-hayaat kya tha,

Aur mujhe thaka kin kaamon ne diya!

Humne hi lautne ka irada nahi kiya

ہمنے ہی لوٹنے کا ارادہ نہیں کیا

Usne bhi bhool janey ka irada nahi kiya

اسنے بھی بھول جانے کا ارادہ نہیں کیا؟

Ofcourse sharing makes the pain go away but I understood the 'decency' of keeping some sorrows to yourself

When Parveen Shakir said "jo ġham milā hai bojh uThāyā hai us kā ḳhud ,

sar zer-e-bār-e-sāġhar-o-bāda nahīñ kiyā"

And Ahmad Faraz wrote "dukh fasāna nahīñ ki tujh se kaheñ "

ham ki dukh oḌh ke ḳhalvat meñ paḌe rahte haiñ ,ham ne bāzār meñ zaḳhmoñ kī numā.ish nahīñ kī

Another poet wrote " behadd sarbasta hai mujh gaafil ka dukh,log nahin samjhengey mere dil ka dukh.

وعدوں کی طرح، عشق بھی آدھا ہی رہا

ملاقاتیں کم رہی، انتظار زیادہ رہا ~

Waadon ki tarah, ishq bhi aadha rha

Mulaqatain kam rhi, intezar zyada rha ~

When Ahmed faraz said;

“kisi shaam mujhe bhi yaad kar liya karo,

mai dost purana he sahi magar zinda hoon”

And parveen shakir wrote:

“tum ne kaha tha har shaam tera haal poochenge,

tum badal gaye ho ya tumhara shaher mein shaam he nahi hoti”.

When Ahmad Faraz said;

ranjish hi sahi dil hi dukhane ke liye aa, aa phir se mujhe chorh ke jaane ke liye aa

And Parveen Shakir Replied;

qarya-e-jaan mein koi phool khilane aaye, wo mere dil pe naya zakhm lagane aaye

Par zindagi guzarna na seekha gaya

I don't wish to say: "There he is." 
Why should I lose what years have 
gained: my life of freedom, my free mind?


I know if I ever fell into his hands 
he'd swiftly turn me into a housefly.

Yes, I'm happy to remain a butterfly:
though life's needs conspire against me at least my wings are still intact.
