No importa el dinero que tengas en el banco. No eres tu trabajo. No eres tu familia, y no eres quien te dices que eres.
No eres tu nombre.

Are these things really better than the things I already have? Or am I just trained to be dissatisfied with what I have now?

you're not how much money you've got in the bank
you're not your job
you're not your family, and you're not who you tell yourself
you're not your name
you're not your problems

wake up babes, a new litarary scale just dropped!
yes, I just came up with this on my own and I call it...
The Flaubert/Palahniuk Scale
Tumblr media
It’s like the Kinsey scale, but for prose lol
On one side, we’ve got Flaubert, the dude that set out to write “a book about nothing” that would still be the most beautifully written prose ever. His sentences are crafted with perfect rhythm, sound, and flow, and his prose sounds like poetry when you read it aloud, at least in French. But also, I was bored out of my mind when reading "Madame Bovary", so there goes my appreciation of the beautiful language I guess lol
On the other side is my boy Chuck Palahniuk. I’m not sure we can call his prose beautiful, but it sure does hit you like a sledgehammer. The first time I felt what kind of emotional punch prose can deliver was when I read his short story "Guts." It doesn’t really have a plot (so I guess it’s similar to Flaubert in that way) but it makes you feel things on a visceral level. The story literally starts with “Inhale” and ends with “Now you can take a good, deep breath. I still have not,” and as you read the final sentences, you realize that you’ve been holding your breath for the duration of the story.
What do you think? Where do you stand? What side of the scale do you prefer reading?

Who knew it'd be so much work??? (probably everyone)
So wow, injured my right (dominant) hand picking up a 12 pack at the grocery story and I’m starting a new book while advertising my existing works and doing the normal day-to-day stuff. It makes for an interesting week so far. I do have another short story I’m gonna be posting, that will start on Monday of next week. In the meantime, here’s a story I’m super proud of. 🙂 Feel free to give a…

“Dimenticare il dolore è difficilissimo, ma ricordare la dolcezza lo è ancora di più. La felicità non ci lascia cicatrici da mostrare. Dalla quiete impariamo così poco.”

People don't want their lives fixed. Nobody wants their problems solved. Their dramas. Their distractions. Their stories resolved. Their messed cleaned up. Because what would they have left? Just the big scary unknown.

I finished reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk today, and honestly? It may be the I Just Finished It high, but it may be one of my favorite Palahniuk books at the moment. I don't know if it can beat Invisible Monsters, but it's definitely got similar themes, only more optimistic (in my opinion).
