So I’m reading veil of Darkness now…
and figured those with the Cato fleas would enjoy this snippet:
“At the command of the apothecary, a serf entered the room from a side chamber and began scraping the remaining amniotic gel from my skin”
truly a gift for the serf Astartes shipper. for context: this is after Cato woke up from a wound that should have killed him and then got in one of the bitchest back and forth with his self proclaimed “rival”. I feel like I can’t discribe the drama here properly so this is what the dramatic guy did after waking up, from what should have been a killing blow:
Woke up and started beating on the draining casket demanding to be released.
tried to escape the apothecary and only let the apothecary check him out beavuse dude was already running the test. And then “refused the proffered hand” and crawl out of the casket by himself.
hear bad news and destroy medical equipment.
realized his rival had been weirdly hiding in the shadows, of his coma room. Purposefully piss him off.
get pissed off at the same treatment. Internally diss Agemman CAPTAIN of the first company, his rival.
find out he has to attend a debrief for the disaster of a mission that they just survived, get pissed about it, insult Agemman again.
think the phrase “ Agemman had every right yo strike me. To my irritation, he resisted, but he spoke though clenched teeth I knew he’d come close.”
Awkwardly asked about his weapons while a serf scraped his naked ass clean.
man is a god damn delight, but I would hate to meet him. So far veil of darkness 10/10.

The symbolism of poppies and abusive fh
Do you guys ever think about the symbolism of poppies in Jimmy and Scott's relationship cause I do. Too much I read a book about poppies so I could understand it better. By the way you have to already believe in abusive flower husbands for this we're going straight into it. Ok now poppies are red and this, this could be so simple. Red is the colour of love and is Jimmy's favourite colour so that's all it is right? Well red also symbolises rage and anger. And it's such a sharp colour. Unlike Scott, Scott is subtle in ways red is not. So in many ways Scott is fighting against the colour red, it is all the things he is not and directly calls out his flaws. We see this in Scott's colour palette, Scott is blue directly contrasting red. Now Jimmy shares a lot of traits with the colour red, Jimmy like the colour is sharp and aggressive, and while we love that about him Scott does not. We see the same arguments Scott's colour palette has with the colour red in Jimmy and Scott's relationship. Scott spends a lot of the relationship removing any "red elements" from Jimmy's personality, breaking him down to a calmer, but more disengaged person. So the fact that the flower Jimmy gives Scott is red shows the ways he will give up himself. And I think in many ways the red poppy is a demonstration of who Jimmy should've been. But poppies only trait isn't being red, they are also symbols of farming. Yet within this they are an agricultural weed. So all I can imagine here is Jimmy planting poppies in their farm as a sweet gesture about their future success and Scott telling him off about how they will hinder the crops growing. And is Scott wrong? No. But he doesn't even attempt to understand Jimmy's gesture or where Jimmy is coming from. And finally Poppies produce opium, which I think links to the ways Jimmy unhealthily copes with being placed in an abusive relationship. Linking to his internalisation of Scott's behaviour rather than leaving Scott or understanding that he is in the wrong. The death symbolism of the opium poppy also links to the innate danger Jimmy is in not just within the life series as a whole but while he is around Scott.
#There's also the war symbolism but that's pretty simple.#They get in a war later#Also like poppies are fragile and you're fragile on your red life#Anyway this book was so good it's called Poppy by Andrew Lack#Great book#flower divorcees#Oh also by the way if you're curious guys people know miss poppies in farmland so it's just like how we miss the actual Jimmy#I can't handle this anymore who did this to Jimmy and why#tw abuse

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Summary: 👩🏿👩❤️👩👩🏿🔬
Read: April 2021
Grace Porter works harder than most people. She has to, as a queer, black woman in the astronomy field. Her whole life, she’s been planning for her dream career. She has been in school nearly her entire life, and now, with her PhD. in hand, finding a job should be easy, right? When she wakes up in Vegas to find that she’s married to a random girl and doesn’t get the job her professor said she was a shoo-in for, Grace realizes she needs a break. She leaves her entire plan behind to truly get to know the woman she married - and herself. This book is about self-love, mental health, and finding your place in the world. It’s about being okay with not being perfect, finding your family, and choosing who you want to be.
I laughed. I cried. I'm still crying. This book was so well written and so relatable. This book will rip your heart out and sew it back together. 💖

Guys I just read Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros and I adored it. Love the characters. Love the world building off Anne McCaffrey. Love the story. Love the spicy parts and the flirting and the relationships *chefs kiss.* But you know what I really love? The fact that she wrote a believable disability for the main character that illustrates physical limitations. She even included the complex mental/emotional issues that come with it, even when you've had it all your life. I don't have what the main character has, but it was similar enough to my own disability that I just felt so fucking seen. Thank you, Rebecca Yarros, for making me feel seen.

quick book review: Imogen, Obviously
Special little queer story about self-discovery. Great characters, their chemistry could be felt. Realistic drama, happy ending, a girl’s heart fluttering at the thought of another girl, what more could you want?
Overall, I give it a 10/10, because it’s perfectly itself, and it’s beautiful.
