barty
ok so I would like to preface this by saying I never looked too hard into the timeline
also barty or at least in the little me's mind who watched the Harry Potter movies and read some of the books, he's painted as a character you wouldn't want to hug
but then I just did the math (sources of the dates from the wiki)
and birthdate: 1962
death date: 1995
Lily and James's death date: 1981
Subtract DD from BD he died when he was THIRTY THREE
I thought he was like uhhh 40 something early 40s like 43
And 19 at LaJDD? ?
i started doing math because the wiki says "The 1982 Azkaban escape occurred [...]. At the trial, Bartemius Crouch Snr, Barty's father, was one of the judges. Barty begged his father to set him free, but Crouch Snr felt betrayed by his son and thought he deserved to be punished and imprisoned. He gave his son a life term in Azkaban."
there is so much hurt in that specifically the line in bold.

Actually hang on, while there aren’t explicit mechanical rules that really propel the idea of a Queer Narrative (mainly because the narrative rules are quite light), there are a lot of elements within the Lancer setting that permit queer narratives.
Like it’s a setting where all kinds of diversity exists and thereby pretty much anything goes, right? People who defy the norm can exist safely in the setting, and therefore there’s no conflict that simulates a queer narrative? On a broad scale, you’d be right!
But then you start going into the specifics. The weird outliers, because at the end of the day, Lancer emphasizes again and again that the universe is massive.
I’d actually like to pick an example from a third party module: Calliope and Nestor from In Golden Flame. Mostly because I think it’s a fantastic example of what can be done within the setting, partially because it’s the one I’m most familiar with.
Nestor is a world that was cut off from Humanity for a long time, and regressed to its worst roots. There was classism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, bigotry, all kinds of horrible things happened there. Then Union made recontact, and Nestorians risked their lives to tell Union the planet was irrefutably corrupt, that it was against their Utopian ideals to the Utmost degree.
Ya wanna know what Union did?
Wait and deliberate. The quickest they could’ve gotten there was in a decade, and they decided “no, Nestor isn’t a priority.”
This ultimately led to the situation escalating and getting worse, turning it into a multi year conflict that prey to much destroyed Nestor. Iirc, it’s uninhabitable now.
Queer people calling for the assistance of those who are supposed to help them, and being told they’re not a priority, that they should wait, that it isn’t urgent? Wonder where I’ve heard that before.
Meanwhile, Calliope. By all accounts, Calliope shouldn’t be colonized. It’s a star system with nearly nothing in it, and a spelling error made it so now millions of people are stuck in it.
It’s infested with pirates and a billionaire who idolizes the tyrants of Nestor, it’s out of reach of Union by several light years, no one goes there and everyone suffers under those who believe might makes right, and that everyone beneath them should starve. Where resources are already scarce and you have tyrants horde them anyway. Where a Cult that includes many survivors of Nestor is trying to end the universe because they believe that the suffering within it proves that it is unloved and should be removed to make way for the new one.
And Union tells them “it’s your fault you’re there. You should really leave if you wanna survive.” And then they provide the bare minimum, and neglect it for centuries.
That sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Now, if this was just In Golden Flame, that would be something else. It’s Third Party, why would that accurately encapsulate the setting?
But the thing is, these examples are paragons of the types of people that fall through the cracks in humanities so called Utopia. Where they suffer from the past of Second Committee, whose anthrochauvanism embodied a “might makes right” mentality, and all of humanities worst qualities came to light. That kind of millennia history isn’t erased in a couple years. That culture doesn’t just evaporate, especially when there are colonies established by them that haven’t even heard Second Committee has fallen.
I can name more examples. The Constellar Worlds of Smith-Shimano, Free Sanjak in the Baronies, the Purview of Harrison Armory, Hercynia, the Long Rim, all of the people trapped under tyrants who have fallen to the wayside and had their Utopia stolen from them.
Maybe Lancer isn’t entirely about Queer Narratives. But it is about revolutions, about bringing about a better future, about protecting those who have fallen between the cracks of the system and been forgotten by those meant to help them, about killing oppression, fascism, anthrochauvanism, and turning the tools that were meant to drive those demons forward against them. It’s about hope.
Is that not Queer?
One thing that keeps coming back to haunt me about my "D&D isn't an inherently queer game" post is people mentioning Lancer as a counterexample of a queer game which, I don't know, feels very much like missing the point. Like modern D&D, Lancer very much seems to be a game made by LGBTQ-inclusive folks where characters are allowed to be queer but at least based on the couple of times I've read it cursorily it doesn't exactly strike me as a queer text. Idk, maybe I just don't get it and it's more just a "we have claimed this game because we like the big robots" kind of thing

Nightlight!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
been going down a rabbit hole of golden age fics and this is my take on the nightlight design tee hee (I love him with all my heart and soul)
also it’s my personal head canon that nightlight was a past life of Jack’s and can access his star boy powers in life/death situations?? Idk but wouldn’t that make a cool future scene where jack can access past PAST lives’ memories and just see his cool space protector self like
anyway I love him bye

Is it normal for Halsin to retain the she-bear scars out of wild shape?
(I went back to look at that scene, because his bear form doesn't have the scars. I thought maybe that meant he wasn't in wild shape when he got them. But he wouldn't tell a straight up lie like that.)
Anyway, keeping scars from his wild shape, werebear Halsin?
Oh I am 100% a werebear Halsin Truther
Evidence: Druids are fully in control and themselves when they are in their wildshape. Halsin isn't. He even warns that as the bear he will not be able to hold back and suggest you not bring him if you want subtlety.
Druids are able to control their transformations. Halsin isn't (romance, etc)
Druids understand languages they know in normal form while in wildshape, because you specifically "Assume the hape of" the animal, it is NOT polymorph. With Halsin in the goblin cage, you have to use speak with animals in order to talk to him.
He's got his own special Wildshape ability that allows him to transform into a cave bear. Circle of the Moon druids normally can only wildshape into a polar bear.
His cave bear form even has a different attack option than regular bear.
Tge cave bear wildshape for Halsin is placed in the “common” tab instead of “druid” tab. Why? Because it's not his druid ability is because
Halsin is a Werebear 🐻✨️

Inspirado en Grave Promises by Blueseabird2 y Like Facing Off Against C'Thulu, but it's Really Just your Fears. by nerdpoe
So, whether it's because he helped him out big time a while ago, saved his life, or trained him, Danny holds Nightwing in high regard. He's a hero he had always looked up to for his morals, skills, perseverance, kindness, and the hope that always seemed to come with him. All of that solidified when he met him in person. The soft yet firm hands when correcting his stance, the genuine and proud smile when flawlessly executing a move after hours of practice, the sparkling gleam in his eyes when listening to him plan a prank, and the hearty laughter that made him throw his head back when he agreed to join in later. Warm and comforting hugs when he needed a shoulder to cry on, a soft chant in an almost forgotten language, a light kiss on his forehead just before falling asleep. Danny had grown fond of the hero who had cared for him like an older brother. Danny had loved him. No, he still loved him, no matter how unlikely it was that he would see him again; Dick had earned a permanent place in his heart.
That's why, when he's suddenly summoned to a dark cave illuminated only by the toxic glow of a giant pool of contaminated ectoplasm, only to look down and see Nightwing with his chest and torso wide open, bleeding out in the middle of a complex summoning circle, an eerie old man chanting in a language not meant for the living just outside the circle and the dome covering it all, and various living heroes screaming and crying, pounding on the dome and hurting themselves in a desperate attempt to reach their friend-brother-son…
Danny goes absolutely wild.

In honor to the eighth episode, let's have an overview of all things Magneto could do if the writers allowed him to
First of, Electric fields and magnetic fields are both manifestations of the electromagnetic field, different sides of the same coin. Electromagnetism acts over all existent materials in different forms. Here are three of them:
Ferromagnetism
Paramagnetism
Diamagnetism
Ferromagnetism is the basic and most know form of magnetism, affecting materials like iron, cobalt and adamantium. It doesn't affect materials like lead, so Magneto shouldn't be allowed to stop bullets
However, he should be allowed to stop the planet's rotation, affecting Earth's nickel magnetized iron core, making the whole planet his hostage.
Paramagnetism refers to materials whose magnetism disappears once the magnetic field is removed while ferromagnetism refers to materials that can retain their magnetic properties when the magnetic field is removed. Both are attracted towards magnetic field.
Y'know what material is paramagnetic? Carbon. Won't even say what this would entail.
On the opposite side, diamagnetism involves an extremely weak force of repelling. All materials are diamagnetic to an extent, but the interesting thing is that water is diamagnetic
So if we consider that Magneto's powers are limitless, he should be able to suspend his enemies not by the iron on their blood (iron in the blood isn't in its ferromagnetic form), but by the water. He could be able part the ocean by only a mere wish. He would have the Force
If he can generate magnetic fields, he can generate electricity. Yes, he would be able to create enough lightning it would scare Thor. But this also means that, by emitting electricity at the right frequency, Magneto would be able to produce ultraviolet, infrared, and by forcing a nuclear reaction through parting atoms, produce up all kinds of radiation including microwave rays

The psychology behind Lumini
Would Lunar and Gemini be a healthy couple? I don't fucking know, I've never read or consumed anything to do with psychology in my life, I have no idea what the fuck I'm talking about here, I genuinely don't know shit about mental health, BUT I'M GONNA TRY ANYWAYS! So if my takes here suck then sorry.
Lunar:
Lunar idolizes Gemini WAY too much. And that's absolutely going to set their relationship back. It's good to admire your romantic partner, but you need to realize they aren't perfect. YOU aren't perfect, so if you view your partner as a perfect person, you're going to end up feeling like you'll never be enough for them.
You have to realize that you and your partner both have flaws, and recognize that you can work through them together as a team. Gemini, despite how much I love them, has flaws. Lunar is going to have to realize that eventually, but I don't think that'll completely get rid of the issue.
Lunar is just a guy. He got thrown into all this star power stuff randomly. and Gemini is his TEACHER. It's okay, because they're both adults so it's not creepy, but even then, you should never EVER be in a relationship with your boss/educator. Gemini's job is to make sure he's progressing steadily with his star power abilities. And since the astrals are so impatient, they kinda have to hurry him along with his learning. Having your partner teaching you something is stressful, because you want to impress them and do well for their sake. It's even worse because for Lunar and Gemini, it's not "I have a hobby i think you'd enjoy, how about I teach you?" For them it's "You NEED to learn this quickly and without struggling or else my brother is going to fucking KILL YOU." Star power is a life or death thing. Lunar having feelings for Gemini is definitely going to make learning harder for him, not because he'll be distracted by them instead of learning. but because Star power is his entire life purpose now and if he doesn't learn how to control it, the consequences could be very grave for him.
On top of that, he doesn't know Gemini very well. Which is fine, people get crushes of course, but they'll need to take things slow with each other if they want to get to know each other better and work through their other issues.
Gemini:
Gemini needs to be more understanding of Lunar's emotions. It's clear that they care for Lunar, but they're very tough on him, and I don't think they understand the mental effects of that.
Gemini feels things differently than any regular earthling. Their feelings are clearly more rooted in logic. They can feel angry and sad and happy, but it's different than how we would. For example, when they rejected Lunar, they gave him a logical explanation as to why they didn't want to pursue a relationship with him, then didn't understand why he was so sad. They thought explaining it logically would help him feel better, but that's not how feelings work. Sometimes people feel sad or happy or scared or angry for no reason, and that's okay. You don't have to justify your feelings or have a logical reason behind them for them to be valid, but I don't think Gemini understands that, and that's okay, but it's something they'll need to work on. Right now, they seem to think Lunar is immature or over emotional, but that's not true. He's been through a lot, and they really need to begin to understand that.
Now. The elephant in the room. When Lunar killed Eclipse, Gemini got pretty mad at him. Which is reasonable, he did kill a guy. I don't really think either of them were in the wrong in that situation though. I've seen some people say Gemini was downright abusive in their reaction, and I've seen some people say that they should've been harder on Lunar, but I wanna see things from both of their points of view. When Lunar saw Eclipse, he was scared. Seeing an abuser again is terrifying, I don't know what I would've done in his shoes. With the way Lunar's mind works, he could've just lost control of himself, he could've regressed from the stress of the situation and not known what to do, and with the way Eclipse was taunting and threatening him, it makes sense that he'd have a violent reaction. It doesn't justify what he did, but it does explain it. Gemini had every right to lash out at him though, because they trusted him and they spent a lot of time training him so he wouldn't do something like that again and he still did. And maybe, for the first time in a while, maybe they couldn't control their emotions either. Maybe they let their anger get the better of them.
Now, I think it actually shows how strong they are, because they were able to recover from what happened. Lunar apologized for what he did, and they've started to rekindle their friendship and build up trust again, and that's good! Because it shows that they can have arguments and still get over it. I've just got one issue with how their arc is going. I wish Gemini apologized too. I know Lunar did kill a man, but they really, REALLY hurt him. I wish they said sorry. But generally speaking, I'm glad that they're becoming friends again.
Another thing about Gemini is their upbringing. They don't talk about the other astrals very much, and I wonder what their life has been like so far. The other astrals seem more like coworkers to them than siblings, and I wonder if anyone other than Lunar has shown them affection before. Did Aries ever play games with them? Did Libra ever comfort them when they were feeling sad? Did Taurus ever show them how to use their powers? Or did they have to learn everything on their own? Sadly, we don't know. But based on how they talk about the other astrals, I'd wager not. And if that's the case, being in a relationship might be a challenge for them. They don't know how to respond to affection, they don't know HOW to be in a relationship. And in all fairness, neither does Lunar. They would be each other's first lovers, which is even more stressful, because neither of them know what the hell they're doing. If they want their relationship to last, they'd have to be perseverant as HELL.
Anyways. I just spent 45 minutes writing that....
Again, I'm not a psychologist! I'm just some random person! I have never studied mental health in my LIFE! Not to mention, I was gaslit A LOT as a kid. I have some pretty sucky parents, so I don't know what a healthy relationship really looks like either! That being said, if I said anything so unbelievably, ungodly incorrect, please correct me! I need to learn more about mental health so maybe then I can ALSO start feeling better.
I have been shipping Lumini since the episode where they went to Paris together, and I was NOT expecting the shows to actually explore the possibility further. I would LOVE for them to get together in canon, because they both need some love and affection. I think it's good that they have these flaws, because they can grow together and progress as characters, and I'm glad they aren't just some cookie cutter automatically healthy no issues whatsoever relationship. I really do hope things end up working out for them.

@floridianfireflyfaith submitted: I must share with you our dear Henrietta. 🥹 She lives in one of the utility carts that me and the other guides use at the zoo (I named her!) and we’ve all adopted her. She’s a successful mama and after this last hurricane came through, someone put her photo in our team group chat with the caption “SHE SURVIVED!”
Not to be dramatic but I love Henrietta more than any spider I’ve ever seen in my life. Please tell her.

In Mumbo’s most recent video on building a pyramid, there is a hieroglyphics transition card for chapter 7.
Tumblr media
The translation: “I’m aktually swa akskitad right nwau” or “I’m actually so excited right now”
Or at least this is the best translation I could find and it’s really interesting because hieroglyphics don’t translate perfectly into english. Several of our letters are either missing or replaced by combos of hieroglyphs (and the reverse stands true). Intriguingly, several of the hieroglyphs Mumbo used are backwards, seemingly where the spelling wouldn’t line up with english so he instead used the closest phoenetic equivalent.
I’m no expert in hieroglyphics (only a passing interest) and there’s a high chance I’ve made errors but either way this is really cool and I’m impressed with Mumbo

Part 1/?
He allowed his boots to make a delicate sound as they touched the ground, landing softly while the portal behind him finished closing. All eyes turned toward him.
"What," he asked in a carefully neutral voice, "is going on here?"
