Good students, on the other hand, constantly raise the bar for themselves
as they focus on what they haven’t learned and mastered yet. This is why high achievers who have had a taste of the vast amount of knowledge out there are likely to suffer from what psychologists call imposter syndrome, the feeling that you are not really up to the job, even though, of all people, they are (Clance and Imes 1978; Brems et al. 1994).

Beginner’s Guide to Hellenic Polytheism
I KNOW this is a really long post but my intention was to just note down everything that I think is important for beginners and that’s A LOT. It took me forever to learn some of these things but they’re so important, so buckle in. I hope this helps some people.
If I’ve missed anything, please feel free to let me know what you’d like me to add. I’ve been working on this for two days, so if there are typos, I’m so sorry.
The sections I cover here are key terms, mythic literalism, deity work vs deity worship, FAQs and General Advice.
Some Key Terms
Hellenic Polytheism: Hellenic means Greek, and Polytheism means worshipping multiple gods. So, Hellenic Polytheism is the worship of the Greek Pantheon which is also referred to as the Theoi. The people who practice could be referred to as Hellenic Polytheists. Some also call themselves Hellenic Pagans, but not all people who practice Hellenic Polytheism consider themselves pagan.
Hellenistic: you may see the term ‘Hellenistic Polytheism’, but this is my PSA to ask people not to use that, as it’s incorrect. Hellenistic refers to a specific period of Andient Greece, from 323-32 BC, and your worship is almost definitely not specifically focused on that period. Additionally, here is a post by a Greek person on why ‘Hellenism’ and ‘hellenismos’ are disrespectful.
Ouranic: this is the term for the heavenly gods. Be aware that there is some overlap between Ouranic and Chthonic deities. Whether a deity is Ouranic or Chthonic will effect things like prayer position (palms up for Ouranic) and whether offerings can be eaten or drank (yes for Ouranic)
Chthonic: this is the term for the underworld gods. Be aware that there is some overlap between Ouranic and Chthonic deities. Whether a deity is Ouranic or Chthonic will effect things like prayer position (palms down for Chthonic) and whether offerings can be eaten or drank (no for Chthonic) side note - when it comes to hero worship, I personally treat them as if they’re chthonic.
Kharis: this means reciprocity, and also refers to the relationship formed between us and the gods. Arguably the most important aspect of Hellenic Polytheism is that when you ask something of a deity, you must give an offering in return. Size of what you’re asking for should correspond to size of the offering, or if you’ve given many little offerings without asking for anything you can use that as why you should be given the Big Thing.
Xenia: guest-friendship, hospitality. The idea that any stranger could be a God in disguise, so treat everyone respectfully. It’s an Ancient Greek social custom that a lot of Hellenic Polytheists see as important today. Simply put, in modern times this most often just means being kind to strangers. There’s a lot more to it than that though, so look here. Know that Xenia is a two-way thing, so you have to be generous to your guests but they must also respect your home.
Eusebeia: basically, piety. Respecting the Gods. This is really the only ‘rule’ of Hellenic polytheism. There’ll be different ideas of what is considered respectful, but as long as you have good intentions and don’t do anything you KNOW would be offensive, you’re okay. Don’t insult the gods (any of them), don’t ask for anything without offering something else, and don’t treat yourself as equal to or higher than the theoi.
Hubris: excessive pride or dangerous overconfidence, often the fatal flaw of a lot of Greek heroes in mythology. Specifically, this is when you act better than or equal to the gods. You are not.
Libations: a type of offering, in the form of a liquid. Usually poured on the ground but can be drank (unless it’s to a chthonic deity) if you’re a closeted Hellenic polytheist who can’t just pour some liquid on the floor every time you want to offer it. My advice for food offerings/libations to chthonic deities if you’re not openly a hellenist is to offer leftovers, rotting food, or something you otherwise know will go to waste.
Altar: traditionally a place used to put physical offerings and food offerings for deities. Some people have an altar to each deity, some people have one altar for all their deities. These can be as big or as small as you want. People may use shelves, drawers, boxes, windowsills, etc, and I don’t even use mine for food offerings, only for physical ones because I usually eat the food offering (I don’t like the idea of wasting food). My altars also just serve as a dedicated space for that deity in my life.
Hero worship: this is the worship of ‘heroes’ in Greek mythology, which includes literally any mortal. For example, I worship Odysseus of Ithaca, Penelope of Ithaca, Helen of Sparta, and Tiresias of Thebes. I’ve been asked a lot about how hero worship differs from deity worship, and you can find that answer here.
Devotee: there is a lot of disagreement on what the difference between a devotee and worshipper is, but for me, I’m devoted to Athena as I feel I have the closest bond with Her of all my deities and I honour Her the most. This partly comes from my feeling that She has been with me for much longer than I’ve been aware of Her presence, and that also so much of who I am and what I value comes under Her domains.
Patron: this basically means that if part of your identity comes under the domain of a deity, then that deity is your patron. There can be occupational patrons (like Hermes is the patron of merchants) or to do with things like gender (Hera is a patron for women. Yes this includes trans women, transphobes are not welcome here.) You can have more than one patron, and you don’t need to worship all of the deities who would be considered your patron.
Epithets: these are titles given to deities. There are two types - cult epithets, which describe the aspect of a deity you’re focusing on (like Athena Ageleia, meaning ‘Protector of the People’) since they have a lot of domains and it’s important in prayers to specify what you want. Then there’s poetic epithets, which are adjectives, often used to compliment a deity. I like using these to make my prayers seem more sophisticated to be honest (example: white-armed Hera)
Unverified Personal Gnosis: gnosis is spiritual knowledge. If it’s unverified, that means that it has no basis in historical sources as far as the person is aware, and they don’t know anybody else who has the same experience. You will often see this abbreviated as UPG. Personally, I think UPG is really valid, considering a lot of things are unknown to us due to the loss of sources overtime.
Shared Personal Gnosis: gnosis is spiritual knowledge. Like UPG, Shared Personal Gnosis (often abbreviated as SPG) doesn’t have any historical backing as far as the people who believe it are aware, but it is shared by multiple different people and therefore seen by some as more valid than UPG (though I’d argue that all SPG is UPG before you know that other people agree)
Verified Personal Gnosis: gnosis is spiritual knowledge. It being verified means that there are historical sources to back up the belief, and this is commonly abbreviated to VPG. You are more likely to come across the terms UPG than SPG or VPG, and most of what Helpol people on tumblr discuss is UPG, even if they don’t state that directly.
Reconstructionist: these are people who try to ‘reconstruct’ the ancient religion, recreating ancient rituals as best they can and doing things as close as they can get to how the ancient Greeks did based on our historical sources. An important note here is that we will never be able to do this perfectly and that’s okay. For example, I would hope none of us are making animal sacrifices.
Revivalist: these are people who try to recreate the ‘spirit’ of the religion, though not with the exact practices that the Ancient Greeks used. Revivalists are more concerned with the values and beliefs of the ancient religion than they necessarily are with how it was practiced. I personally feel like I fall somewhere between the two, but I also think both are really valid!
Mythic Literalism
Mythic Literalism is the idea that the stories we see in any mythology actually occurred. In Hellenic Polytheism, this is not how we tend to look at the Greek myths. And it’s not how the ancients saw them either.
Greek mythology has always been interpreted as symbolic. For example, Hades kidnapping Persephone is mostly accepted to be about mothers in Ancient Greece being separated from their daughters once they marry. It does not mean that Hades, the God, kidnapped Persephone, the Goddess, and that people who worship Hades are evil because Hades is a kidnapper. This myth can also be interpreted through the lens that death separates families.
This is important because the Gods all do things that are, by today’s standards, incredibly immoral - and a lot of them were even immoral in antiquity. It is important to not take the myths literally to avoid feelings of guilt over worshipping something horrific.
And yes, this applies to Zeus. He is not a rapist, He’s a male fertility god. In myths he does bad things because he represents kings and kings can abuse their power. Things like that.
But it’s still good to research the myths! It’s good to learn the ways in which these deities were understood and what their domains can represent. Myths also help us to feel more familiar with our deities. Additionally the myths tell us not to be hubristic, and things like the Iliad tell us about Oaths and Offerings and Xenia. These are important parts of helpol.
Deity Work vs Deity Worship
I’m going to preface this section by saying that I worship deities, I don’t work with them, so even though I’m doing research on this please take everything I say about deity work with a grain of salt and note that the rest of this post might apply more to worship, because that’s what I’m familiar with. Lastly, my intention here is not to place a value judgement on either type, I just want to try and make a full explanation for anyone out there looking for one, since I’ve found it to be kind of difficult to find.
From my understanding, deity work is common among witches, and usually involves asking a deity to help with your spells or other forms of magick. When you work with a deity, you are asking them to mentor you in a sense, and there’s often a specific goal in mind that they’re hoping to achieve with help of the deity. Additionally, because of that goal-oriented relationship, deity work has deadlines(?). Like, once you’ve achieved the goal you had, the deity will stop working with you
There are similarities, as both seem to involve reciprocity and offerings, and both involve cultivating a relationship with deities, even if the nature of that relationship and the reason for offering is different.
Deity worship doesn’t have a set end-goal. You CAN stop actively worshipping a deity, but this doesn’t usually come after a specific goal is achieved because there isn’t a goal in mind. Worship is more about honouring the deity. Khakis is built out of admiration, respect and love for the deity. This is why we pray, make offerings, etc. it’s all to honour the gods. We do ask for things in deity worship, but that’s not the entire point like it is for deity work.
FAQs
Do I need to be called to worship/work with a deity?
Nope! You are 100% allowed to reach out first. You can do that by praying or making an offering. Remember to research the deity first, so you know what epithets to use, know what symbols they’re associated with, have ideas for offerings, etc. Also, if a deity calls to you, you are not obligated to worship them. Acknowledge them and move on if you don’t have time, energy, or interest in worshipping them at that time.
Where can I find information on deities?
The main site that I think everyone uses is theoi.com, which has really in-depth pages on a lot of deities, with their myths, lists of epithets, family trees, etc. it’s a really useful resource!
Do I need an altar?
No. They’re nice to have but you don’t need one straight away. It took me two years of worshipping to get any altars, and even now I don’t really use them how you’re ‘supposed’ to.
Are there any sins in Hellenic Polytheism?
No, just don’t disrespect a god (don’t disrespect any of them, even the ones you don’t worship should be respected). Also don’t show hubris.
Deity X and Deity Y don’t get along, but I want to worship both, what do I do?
Disregard mythic literalism and remember this is a polytheistic religion. The gods know they are not the only god you will be worshipping, and they are chill with that. If you really want, you can separate their altars if you have an altar per deity, but it’s up to you completely.
Other General Advices
This post is a starting point, nothing here is very in-depth. Do more research if anything on here is still confusing to you. Feel free to ask people here on tumblr, I’m sure most of us would be happy to help.
Don’t believe everything you see on tiktok/tumblr. We’re all still learning, a lot of us are wrong about stuff. Do other research and let yourself form your own beliefs. As I’ve said, even parts of this post should be taken with a grain of salt. I’m no expert, I just want to try to help.
If you’re going to make your own posts about helpol stuff, advice I’ve seen before that really stuck with me is ‘keep some things scared’. You don’t have to post everything. I, at the moment, don’t post my prayers or photos of my altars. Those things are what I keep scared, you should have your own things. They don’t have to be the same as mine.
You have nothing to be afraid of. The gods can be intimidating when you’re starting out, but they know we don’t have as much readily available information about this stuff as the ancient greeks did. They also know you’re new, and they will be patient with you. Don’t be scared.
You can offer anything. Digital offerings are as valid as physical offerings. Devotional acts are valid too.
Know that you will never be done learning. Accept this and commit to trying to learn anyway.
Know how to tell signs from the gods apart from just General Happenings of the world. Here is a good post on that. I have a series on my blog tagged #signs from deities, to show the kinds of things I personally recognise to be signs and to show how frequently/infrequently those can occur. I would suggest keeping your own record of those, whether or not you share it is up to you. The reason is to reflect on your journey and, if you ever doubt your gods, you can look at those lists to remind yourself of how they’ve been there for you previously.
Doubt is healthy, it’s okay to doubt things. Don’t feel bad for this, the gods understand. Let yourself question everything you feel the need to question.
Similarly, anger is healthy. It’s okay to be angry at the gods, but don’t disrespect them because you’re upset. Handle your anger well. You won’t get punished for being upset.
The Hellenic Gods aren’t generally believed to be all-knowing, however it is believed that they can hear us when we call their names, which is why prayers start with invocation of a deity’s name and an epithet.

Mel's joke line lives in my head rent free so I wrote a snippet around it. This is a part of an AU where Mel discovers Ekko early on
Councilor Medarda stood on the hoverboard, her posture wavering just for a split second before returning to its usual graceful stance, seemingly effortless with it all.
Ekko moved her arms further away from her sides. "Remember, you need to keep yourself balanced."
"Right," Mel said, preparing herself to lift off.
"Don't get too scared right off the bat, it'll make you crash before you can blink."
"Noted."
"But don't get too confident either. You're just a beginner, this shit takes time-"
"Got it. Goodbye now."
“Wait a minute, wait-!”
Councillor Medarda took off without looking back, her hair flying with the wind as she flawlessly flew with the rest of the Firelights as if she was always a part of them. She looked like a dancer, swinging in between branches as if she always lived here and giving chase to anyone who tried to shadow her.
Ekko couldn't hide his bewilderment. "But, but how?"
"Because she's Mel Medarda," answered Jayce as if it was the most obvious conclusion in the world as he fixed another air cleanser for the one of the homes here.
Some of the other children had begun circling around councilor Medarda, seeing her natural talent at flying as a challenge, trying to chase her or grab onto her clothes only to be flown into each other instead, their laughter echoing off the walls like a melody. Whenever one got down, two others would get up to try and finish what they all started.
Councilor Medarda seemed to be enjoying herself as well, smoothly fighting off the rascals. But Ekko could see the signs of overconfidence seeping onto her standing. He called for Scar to prepare a med pack just in case.
She grinned brilliantly. "She's beauty. She's grace. She's- OOMPH!"
And just as Ekko predicted, she got too into her head and flew into one of the upper houses that were thankfully empty at the time. Ekko cringed in empathy. That was the area he crashed into when he first tested the hoverboards. He couldn't fully see her face from here, but a thumbs up and giggling from one of the kids confirmed she didn't get too hurt from the crash.
Before she could sit there embarrassed too long, a little girl with blue hair tagged her and flew away along with her friends. Councilor Medarda over dramatically gasped from shock. "You fools dare to challenge me? You will regret this moment!"
She pressed on the engine of the hoverboard and shrieks followed in her wake. Ekko could have Jayce snickering in the background. "Vi owes me five silver pieces."

Raphael (TMNT 2014/2016)- Oneshot
No one told you that crushing on someone would hit this hard.
When it started it was purely because of your love for the arts. You always wanted to learn to fight. But your parents were protective. To them you were a delicate flower. You grew up a pretty sickly child. So when you were finally deemed a healthy individual, it was a life changer. You no longer had to limit activity or watch all the other kids run around as you stared from the sidelines.
But they were still constantly worried.
That’s why when you met the turtles, of course you never said a word to them. If your parents knew that there were large mutant ninja turtles out there, surely they would never let you leave home.
New York was messed up enough.
The second you realized that these crime fighters were experts in self defense and awesome butt kicking, you basically begged them to help you learn. After your constant pestering, Leo finally gave in. Splinter was sort of happy to have a new little apprentice. It had been a while since he was able to really teach. His sons have grown into incredible fighters.
Excelled.
So for your first day of training, you were decked down in shorts and a t- shirt, ready for anything.
“Remember Raph she’s a beginner so you have to-”
Raph kicked your feet from under you, and you tumbled with a grunt. He just smirked.
“Gotta be ready for anything.”
“Raph!!” Leo protested.
He should have known better than to expect Raph of all people to be a patient teacher. You pulled yourself to your feet, this time ready for anything he was about to dish out.
Since today was Raph’s to teach you, the others were told to look on and give pointers where needed. By the end of the session, you were sore in places you didn’t even think possible. You had a test to study for this week that you had an inkling feeling you would need to cram for because there was no way you would be able to even pick up a book when you got home.
Leo had given you pointers on improvements, Mikey flashed a grin giving you a pat on the back. Donnie slipped you some books to study on to help with technique and form. They’d all pretty much dispersed to enjoy the rest of the day until patrol. As you were packing, Raph was at the side removing his gloves. He caught the slight wince you made as you bent to lift your bag. You caught his stare from the side, and you played it off, straightening the best you could without looking like you were in pain.
“Today was a piece of cake.” You boasted.
Raph grinned.
“I knew ya were tough.”
You turn to him. This was possibly the first time someone had said that to you.
“Leo’s big on taking it easy but sometimes ya need a push. Guess ya aint that weak for a girl.”
He was still wearing that overconfident smile. You knew he was teasing. But it was flattering. Although he was basically taunting you, he believed that you had the ability to handle it. He wasn’t overly harsh today either. He’d applied just enough force that you had to put in effort to retaliate every attack.
“Don’t get ya butt kicked tomorrow.”
He tossed you an ice pack that you caught clumsily, looking at his retreating figure.
Maybe that was the first time that you knew you had a crush on the hot tempered male.
Your sessions continued.
The first few months were brutal. Because of all the inactivity as a child, it felt like you had to fight even harder to catch up physically. But you made it. In the span of eight months, you were just as skilled as the boys. Of course lacking the inhumane strength and crazy awesome build. But you were there.
You were strong. It was a bit comical that your parents had not caught on. When your mother noticed the tone in your biceps, you’d merely told her you were in the gym to stay fit to prevent any issues for the future. She ate it up, so you were in the clear.
Meeting the boys was quite honestly the best thing to happen in your life. You were also very happy to see a certain muscular mutant on a daily basis.
Later that afternoon you were expecting Raph.
You were always happy that your parents finally agreed to let you live on your own. You loved that they cared so much, but you spent too much of your life being treated like a glass that would break at any moment. You sat at the window, waiting for Raph to just swing in. You were honestly a bit happy he hadn’t caught on to your feelings.
If he did, you were scared that these days would somehow just vanish.
“Daydreaming again.”
You lifted your head, and he was just casually standing on your fire escape.
“How do you keep doing that? I didn’t even hear you jump down.”
“Ninja.”
“Of course.”
You stood to raise the window a bit higher so he could climb in, but there was a knock on your door and you stumbled. You grabbed the curtains.
“Don't make a sound.” You said to Raph, shutting the curtains hurriedly.
“Coming!”
You raced to the door. Not even surprised when your mother was on the other side.
“Hi sweetheart.”
She didn’t even wait for you to invite her in and you closed the door with a sigh.
“Are you eating well, taking your vitamins? You know how important that is.”
“I am mom.”
“Don’t give me that look. You know how hard it was for us when you were younger. Being that sick all the time, it was terrifying. I just want to make sure you’re alright.”
“I know, I know. I promise you I’m okay. I’m as fit as a horse.” You flexed for good measure and she laughed.
“Well that’s good. I just came by to drop some things. Your father has been doing a bit of spring cleaning. “ She placed the bag down, giving your apartment one more look. “
“If you ever get lonely just let me know. Ms. Laine has two handsome boys that would love to-”
“Bye mom!!”
“Okay, okay, I can tell when I’m not wanted.”
Leaving a kiss on your forehead, she waved, shuffling out the door. You placed your head on the door with a heavy sigh. At this point you shouldn’t even be surprised that she’s playing matchmaker.
“Ya mom sounds fun.”
You jumped at his voice, turning and sending him a glare.
“Don’t do that!
He just grinned, moving back to the window, fixing the curtains that had gotten blown around when he stepped in.
“Ya used to be sick?”
It’s a question that lacks the typical Raph teasing tone.
Of course he heard.
Now that the cat was out of the bag, you had no choice but to tell him.
“I had a heart condition. Doctors said I wouldn’t live to see fifteen. My parents were scared every time they looked at me. When I finally got the transplant I thought I would feel normal but they are just more overprotective. When I started college last fall I had a little more freedom. I wanted a chance to prove that I wasn’t weak. Then I met you guys.”
You smile as you both stare out at the sunset from your spot next to the window. You climb up, sitting there comfortably. Raph moves to your side, doing the same.
“You were the first person who ever told me that I wasn’t weak. Who never looked at me like I was some kind of fragile glass. You believed in me.” Your eyes shift to Raph’s and he takes in the way your eyes sort of sparkle.
“Thank you for believing in me.”
He looked down after a few heated seconds.
“Don’t go getting soft.” He grumbled.
It was cute how bashful he was being.
As you both sat on the window sill, your eyes shifted to his hand. This was possibly the closest you’d been to him with just the two of you outside of training. Swallowing your doubt, you reached over slowly, placing your hand over his. You could feel yourself blushing, and Raph became tense at the touch. Your heart was hammering against your chest. If you could take a million harsh tumble for eight months, you could tell the person you were crushing on how you felt.
“I..like you Raph..”
It was barely above a whisper.
Raph just stared for a while.
He shook it off.
“What, like ya got a crush on me.”
He let out a laugh as if he didn’t really believe you and your face scrunched up in irritation.
“D-Don’t laugh, I'm being serious!!”
He shook his head.
“Come on, quit messing with me.”
He pulled his hand away and nudged your shoulder. Your frown deepened, and you turned, jumping back into your bedroom. When you were safely inside, you shoved Raph out the window. He let out a yell, grabbing the edge just in time before he took a tumble. It wasn’t that bad a fall. You knew that.
“What's the big idea!!”
He pulled himself up the ledge with one hand, climbing inside.
“G-Get out I don’t want to see your stupid face!!”
“What the hell are you so mad about!”
“I poured out my feelings and you sat there and laughed at me!!”
He had to admit, your pouty face was cute.
“Stupid jerk.” You grumbled.
From your expression, he knows you’re upset. So he decides against teasing again and he just asks this time.
“Ya really mean it.”
“Of course I did, do you think I would just say something like that?”
You were mad, but when you look at his expression, that seems to deflate. His expression added to a steady increase of your heart rate. He took one step, and you could have sworn you almost stopped breathing.
“Ya sure ya know what you’re getting yourself into.”
You swallow.
It appears you did not.
“I-I’m not scared of you, remember. We’re equals.”
You’re far from equal.
Raph has crazy mutagen running through his veins.
“We are.” His words surprise you.
“I know I got a clear advantage, but ya strong. Don’t forget that.”
You can’t believe it. He’s actually praising someone other than himself.
“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
“Just take the compliment!!”
You smile.
“Thanks Raph.”
He turns with a grumble.
“Whatever.”
This crush might be a work in progress.

I saved this as a draft for a long time but I want to share it now:
Boys and men in sports humiliate and injure to prevent girls and women from "encroaching" on what they consider their domain.
I've tried to talk about this many times in my life, and I always get the, "you just can't handle competition, you just expect me to go 'easy,' on you, you're just whiny/weak/holding up the game, this is unavoidable" when it was extremely obvious to me that I was being maliciously targeted by boys in an attempt to humiliate me, not in an attempt to simply win the game.
I recognize common threads between complex individual experiences:
-That the excess violence was CLEARLY not necessary to win;
-That it was done to me/other girls and not boys of a comparable size/skill (or, often, lesser size/skill);
-That it would occur when I was not that great of a threat i.e., they would spend the whole CASUAL game focused on shutting me down even though a lot else was going on; and then, when it was serious and we were actually trying, we would be having fun, getting rough, and then when I was up, the clear moment of a DECISION (with a petulant gleam in the eye) to make it unfun by SUDDENLY kicking/slapping/shoving me EXCESSIVELY hard (in a way I could not prepare for as it had no precedent in the game), PURPOSELY (this is not hard to tell) hurling the ball as hard as they can at my head while I'm not looking, etc. (and this was often on top of disproportionate, unsportsmanlike ridicule/taunting, i.e., condescending/disgusted/impatient that I never saw boys do to each other, instead of the fun shit-talking that I DO understand is part of sport);
-In situations where they would not allow me to play (i.e., ignore me completely as a teammate, refuse to assign me a role, etc.), because they ASSUMED I couldn't before I could prove otherwise, and then when I insist, instantly hurting me on purpose so I still never get a chance to show that I am skilled/competitive;
-And finally, it was ALWAYS in conjunction with specific comments about my femaleness, or comments about how I'm overconfident/need to be taught a lesson (and I would not include this point if I were bragging about my skills or messing up the game, I can tell if I'm holding up a competition).
In the end, all of this DOES result in my being less practiced and skilled, which serves as an ad hoc justification for it
In my memories, it seems like they are angry that a girl has the audacity to try, because nothing is more hammered into our heads than, "girls are weak and it's unthinkable to lose to them or take them seriously." Just because women can't compete with men at certain high level sports obviously does not mean that every individual girl will lose to every individual boy--- and it's so important for me to tell the difference that I am very thoughtful about whether it's "rowdy crazy high level man stuff--" I've never been interested in participating in that because it's scary and feels pointless.
As a lifelong athlete, I also have a lot of experience with accidentally getting hurt, with "intimidation" as a legitimate strategy, with making a beginner player quit because they obviously don't belong in your game; but these are all ways boys will try to pass off their cruelty.
It's also worth noting that boys my age were UNABLE to physically overpower me until about age 14, and all of this still happened (though it happened a lot more after that). I know that sometimes girls can hold up games and be overconfident and I can imagine that would be annoying. But sport is so important to me, and this pain is so deep, and I've been told these things all my life, so there's no way I would not be looking out for such nuance.
For most girls, it really only takes the one experience for them to never try again. For me, I BELIEVED people for a long time that I just needed to accept that things get competitive and rough-- and that's why I put myself through it over and over, only to find that something else, something far more sinister, was clearly at play.
In summary, men and boys are actively unsportsmanlike and unnecessarily cruel to girls and women who want to try to build skill and compete in various sports, and this is nothing to do with biological differences-- just misogyny.

Demon Turf.
A first impression game review, or more accurately, how my sense of humanity nearly shattered because of one unfortunate button press!
So this game, right. Its got demons! Its got 3D platforming! Those are two of my favorite things! Its even got cute looking art! So of course, I had to check it out because it looked so fun. Yea. Fun.
I'm sure that under all normal circumstances, and according to the intent of the developers, the player will be greeted by a very fun experience!
However, on this night, I didn't go through normal circumstances, oh no no no. You see, when I opened the game, it helpfully provided the option between two modes, one of which is the main game, and another which is a grueling challenge mode. Innocently, I selected the mode for the main game, as it was reccomended for beginners.
And this is where my torture began because the game appears to have said "hehe no" and sent me into the challenge mode without me realizing until far too late.
In this challenge mode, you are stripped of most abilities, even basic jump extensions you start with in the main game. Your goal is to climb up a tower, which will provide you back another move each time you climb your way past five floors. Sounds pretty simple, cept' for the fact that it had some of the most tight platforming I'd ever personally experienced, so tight that I wasn't even sure what I was doing wrong when I missed a jump I had already managed to get past multiple times, presumably due to some minute difference in timing. Worst of all, missing a jump sends you falling downwards, potentially all the way to the very start if you miss all the platforms you worked to get past on the way down- and even worst worst of all, there were instant-killing obstacles that outright just ended your run immediately if you run into them!
Needless to way, I was baffled, downright fearful, of how what to me- in my silly misguided perspective- was the game's first level had thrown me into a literal hellscape of precision platforming that seemed to only get more brutal as I stubbornly tried to bruteforce my way upwards for several hours.
I fell so many times. I felt like the physical incarnation of those viral videos of youtubers screaming and suffering psychological damages from games like 'Getting Over It'. This cute platformer with cute demons was putting me through the purest of anguish, and I did not even know why. All because the menu, that evil starting menu, had so viciously deceived me into starting with the challenge mode. I was feeling my personality warp into something dark and twisted in real time as I attempted this impossible feat set before me, only to find out that it could have all been avoided. Like. You don't understand. I was so desperate I was frantically googling if anyone else found this game as difficult as I was whilst receiving no results of the sort, adding to my further despair. Was it what the gamers call skill issue? Was it all in my head? Has my years of loving platformers really led me to this crisis? Was I perhaps, overconfident in my potential? Would I lose my ability to perform human speech as my words toward the screen devolved to rabid snarling?
...
Oh.
I'm in the wrong game mode.
...
The emotions upon my realization of what actually happened are truly indescribable. However, realizing that the game wasn't actually this cruel, that there was an actual, y'know, game with reasonable difficulty pacing and a fun little storyline to boot served as a warm and comforting hand clutching me, preventing me from falling into the abyss entirely. The demon game isn't just a cruel rage inducing Sisyphus simulator! Oh, what relief! There's hope in this world!
So, now that I've started the intended game experience, how is it? Pretty much what I'd hoped for so far, the platforming feels reasonably satisfying, the art style is charming with its blend of 3D and 2D mediums, the premise is a heck lot of fun with the goal of rising to the throne by taking over various gangs, and there seems to be a whole lot of goodies to find and unlock! Granted, I haven't gotten very far yet- my heart needs to recover after what I've gone through. But I certainly plan on continuing this experience.
And who knows. Maybe when I beat the game in full, I might consider returning to this tower scaling challenge experience!
Maybe.
#my reviews#game review#demon turf#3d platformer#gaming#first impressions#fabraz#indie games#I had to write this to preserve any shred of sanity I had left#its a cute game though give it a try

Okay but the second and third?? There’s twice as many prongs as actually needed and it could’ve been cool aesthetically but its done so piss poor that it just looks like they’re the opposite of overconfident in their ability to set the stone.
the second picture blurry. This doesn’t hide the fact that the texturing is so wacky??? Like they textured one part so hard that the metal snapped and they went ‘oh shit,’ soldered a melted scrap to fix the band and then just didn’t even try to texture the new metal or blend the seam.
Why could they afford to make all the stones shine EXCEPT the one that’s most prominent? Did it keep fallout out and they just resigned themselves to having a grubby stone???
This is not beginner work, I’m a beginner, and this is very clearly someone who is either scamming people or just doesn’t have a teacher.
kinda obsessed with these, clearly beginner, rings on Etsy being marketed as garnet when i'd bet money that they are glass
the metal work is. certainly better than what i've ever made, so i don't want to speak to harshly. but uh. um.
#I’m not even bothered about the stones potentially being glass I think glass would be a really cool material to incorporate into silverwork#but if that’s actually garnet bbygirl get her outta there

What Are the Common Mistakes Made by Beginner Drivers?
What Are the Common Mistakes Made by Beginner Drivers?
Learning to drive is an exciting milestone, but beginner drivers often make mistakes as they build their confidence and skills on the road. Understanding these common errors can help new drivers avoid them and become safer, more responsible drivers.
1. Failing to Check Blind Spots
Many beginner drivers focus solely on their mirrors, forgetting to check their blind spots. This oversight can lead to dangerous situations, especially when changing lanes or merging onto highways. Always remember to look over your shoulder to ensure the coast is clear.
2. Speeding or Driving Too Slowly
Maintaining the correct speed is crucial for safe driving. Beginners often struggle with this, either driving too fast to keep up with traffic or too slowly out of caution. Both can disrupt traffic flow and increase the risk of accidents. Stick to the speed limit and adjust your speed based on road conditions.
3. Improper Use of Signals
Using turn signals is essential for communicating your intentions to other drivers. Many new drivers either forget to signal or use them incorrectly. Always use your signals when turning, merging, or changing lanes to ensure safety and predictability on the road.
4. Tailgating
Keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead is vital to avoid rear-end collisions. Beginner drivers often underestimate the stopping distance required, leading to tailgating. Follow the "three-second rule" to maintain a safe buffer zone.
5. Not Understanding Traffic Rules
Traffic rules can be overwhelming for beginners, but ignoring them can lead to fines or accidents. Study your local driving handbook thoroughly and practice applying these rules in real-life scenarios.
6. Panicking in Unfamiliar Situations
Driving in heavy traffic, adverse weather, or unfamiliar areas can be stressful for beginners. Panicking may cause rash decisions, such as sudden braking or erratic lane changes. Stay calm, plan your routes, and practice driving in varied conditions to build confidence.
7. Distracted Driving
Using a phone, adjusting the radio, or even chatting with passengers can divert a beginner driver’s attention from the road. Minimize distractions and focus solely on driving to ensure your safety and that of others.
8. Improper Parking Techniques
Parallel parking and reverse parking can be challenging for beginners. Practice these maneuvers in safe, open spaces to perfect your technique and avoid minor accidents or parking fines.
9. Neglecting Vehicle Maintenance
Beginner drivers often overlook the importance of regular vehicle maintenance. Check your tires, brakes, lights, and fluid levels regularly to prevent breakdowns and ensure your car operates safely.
10. Overconfidence or Nervousness
Striking a balance between confidence and caution is key. Overconfident drivers may take unnecessary risks, while overly nervous drivers may hesitate and cause disruptions. Practice regularly and seek guidance from a trusted instructor to build the right mindset.

I consider myself a pretty small writer, or least not big. But why, when my most popular fic, Lightning Bolts and Breaking Clouds, has 3308 kudos and is constantly gaining more? Because my fic with the second-most kudos has 99. My statistics look like this:
My most popular fic is an outlier adn should not be counted. Now that you have the context of these graphs, I would like to say a few words to fans of that particular unfinished fic about Jason Todd becoming Billy Batson’s dad. I’ll put them under the cut because it’s off-topic from the poll.
Listen. Listen to me. I have NOT forgotten about this fanfic, okay? I will not forget. I promise. And I promise that someday I WILL continue it. But not yet. Not anytime soon. I wouldn’t call it abandoned, but on indefinite hiatus, and here’s why.
I was a beginner with a great concept, a burst of inspiration and absolutely no plan when I wrote it, publishing chapters as soon as my beta and I were finished with them. I’d never attempted a multichapter story before. I was not expecting it to get as popular as it has, let alone at such breakneck speed. It was overwhelming. Suddenly I had thousands of people clamouring for more. More that I couldn’t give you, because I hadn’t worked out anything else and inevitably ran out of steam. And I still haven’t had time to. Life in general takes precedent, as do other fanfics that I have actually completed and/or outlined and have more motivation for.
Between the drought of inspiration and motivation I have regarding it; the mistakes inextricably woven into what exists of it; the awareness of how many people are waiting on me; and the frequency of comments asking or begging for updates or complaining about me abandoning it, the emotions it fills me with are shame, guilt, stress, regret and frustration. Furthermore, the steep disparity in the amount of reader interactions it gets compared to all my other fics has actually caused me to resent it. It hurts to see that so many people are aware of my AO3 account and like my writing, but only a small proportion of them care about the majority of my output, fics that are usually complete, I judge to be significantly superior to this one and often worked harder on. Most of them are in the Batman comics fandom too. It doesn’t seem fair to me. I’m not ungrateful - I love that any of my fics brings you joy. I am earnestly touched by the praise and compliments on Lightning Bolts and Breaking Clouds. But maybe next time you want to reread it, as a number of comments admit to, try reading one of my dramatically less popular, but perhaps more skilled fics instead if you haven’t.
Readers, I’m sorry. I’m so incredibly sorry that my overconfidence and naivety got you all hooked on a promise I couldn’t keep. I hate it too! I wish I could churn out a wonderful, satisfying story and update every week! I wish I’d kept it as a document and taken the time, done all the difficult work, to have a finished product ready to post! I still daydream about my visions of Jason and Billy and their family! I want more just like you! But I simply can’t get the words out. Asking or telling me to update won’t help, it reinforces my shame and makes me want to be more avoidant. Please don’t do that.
This fic haunts me, and due to my guilty desire to give Jason, Billy and my vast multitude of very devoted readers the story they deserve I have resolved to only get back into it when I can commit to it. When I can do it right: outline and write the whole thing and then confidently commence regular updates. The last thing I want is to raise people’s hopes and then leave them hanging again. I don’t have the time, energy or motivation for that renaissance yet, but I will keep searching for them. Thank you for your time.
The submitter of this poll encouraged any fanfic writer to promote their fics under this poll.
This poll was submitted to us and we simply posted it so people could vote and discuss their opinions on the matter. If you’d like for us to ask the internet a question for you, feel free to drop the poll of your choice in our inbox and we’ll post them anonymously (for more info, please check our pinned post).

Why is Equity Trading for Beginners in Hyderabad Rewarding and Risky?
Most people, especially youngsters, are attracted to the growth potential of equity investments. The idea of building wealth quickly through stock market gains seems appealing. However, equity trading is a double-edged sword—it has the potential to create wealth, but uninformed decisions can lead to significant financial losses during equity trading for beginners in Hyderabad, which is why one should seek help from professionals.
The Dual Nature of Equity Trading
Equity trading offers the chance to grow your money, but it also comes with uncertainties. Let’s explore why it’s both rewarding and risky:
Why Is Equity Trading Rewarding?
1. High Returns Potential:
Stocks have historically offered better returns compared to other investment options like fixed deposits or savings accounts. The power of compounding and the growth of companies over time can significantly enhance your wealth.
2. Ownership in Companies:
By buying shares, you own a part of a company. If the company grows, its stock value increases, giving you a share in its success. Pragati Wealth, an equity trading company in Hyderabad can help you throughout your investment journey.
3. Liquidity:
Equity investments are highly liquid. You can sell your shares and convert them into cash quickly, which is not always possible with other investment types like real estate.
4. Inflation-Beating Investment:
Equity trading helps combat inflation. While inflation reduces the purchasing power of money, the potential growth in stock prices often outpaces inflation over the long term.
5. Portfolio Diversification:
Investing in equities allows you to diversify your portfolio, reducing the risk that comes from depending entirely on fixed-income instruments.
Why Is Equity Trading Risky?
1. Market Volatility: Stock prices can fluctuate dramatically due to market conditions, economic changes, or global events. This makes equity trading unpredictable, especially for beginners.
2. Lack of Knowledge: Without understanding how markets work, traders may end up making poor decisions, such as investing in the wrong stocks or selling during market downturns.
3. Emotional Decisions: Fear and greed often drive trading decisions. Panic selling or overconfidence in a rising market can lead to losses.
4. No Guaranteed Returns: Unlike fixed deposits or bonds, equities don’t guarantee returns. There’s always a chance that the value of your investment may decrease.
5. Leverage Risks: Beginners often use borrowed money (leverage) to trade stocks, hoping for higher gains. However, this can amplify losses and lead to financial stress.
Conclusion
Equity trading is an exciting opportunity for those looking to grow their wealth. Its potential for high returns makes it an attractive investment avenue, but the risks associated with market volatility and lack of knowledge cannot be ignored. As a beginner, focus on educating yourself, starting small, and consulting experts to make informed decisions. Remember, equity trading is not a get-rich-quick scheme—it’s a journey of patience, learning, and disciplined investing. By taking calculated steps, you can enjoy the rewards of equity trading while minimizing its risks.

Don’t Get Overconfident: While it’s tempting to jump into high-stakes games for big cash rewards, make sure you’re comfortable with your skills first. Start small and gradually work your way up to more competitive games.
Pay Attention to the Opponents: Observing your opponents’ moves is crucial in rummy. Try to deduce their strategies based on the cards they pick and discard. This can help you anticipate their next move and plan your own more effectively.
Manage Your Bankroll: One of the keys to success in cash-based games is effective bankroll management. Set limits on how much you’re willing to stake and avoid the temptation to chase losses. Responsible play ensures you stay in the game longer.
Legal and Responsible Play
While the excitement of winning real money in an online rummy cash game is enticing, it’s crucial to play responsibly. In India, the legality of online rummy varies by state, and players must ensure they are abiding by the local laws before participating in cash games. Many platforms, including Hukum Ka Ikka, offer measures to promote responsible gaming, such as self-exclusion options and spending limits.
Conclusion
Hukum Ka Ikka has set a high standard for online rummy platforms, combining skill-based gameplay with the opportunity to win substantial cash prizes. Whether you’re a casual player or a competitive enthusiast, this platform offers an exhilarating rummy experience with the added thrill of real-money stakes.
