Just watched The Screams of The Damned. My jaw dropped so low I'm going to need Alys to summon it back up.

This is one of the many plays that made me go, "You're telling me this is improvised?!!"

Every single joke. The plot. The characters. Comedy CANNOT possibly get better than Shoot From The Hip. Neither can improv.

watched through all the sfth longforms after seeing a few and deciding i needed to tally how many kisses were in them (i also definitely messed up my tallies so if they dont add up right shhhhhh)

i counted how many shows had kisses, how many kisses, how many each person got, and how many each pair had to work out who was deemed the most kissable by the others

firstly, out of (at the point of writing this) 58 longforms, 17 of them featured at least one kiss, making that about 29% of the shows

the total number of kisses was 23 (meaning an average of 1.3 kisses per longform)

now for the pairing statistics (in alphabetical order):

aj/luke: 3

aj/sam: 2

aj/tom: 3

luke/sam: 3

luke/tom: 7

luke/suki: 1

sam/tom: 2

making luke/tom the most common pairing in the longforms by over 2x

for the individuals (again, alphabetic):

aj: 8

luke: 16 (almost one kiss per show with a kiss?? despite being the one most often missing?)

sam: 8

suki: 1

tom: 11

so yeah everyone likes to kiss luke….

bonus stat: number of times dipped in a kiss!

AJ: 0

Luke: 4

Sam: 1 (it was luke in leftenmost window)

Tom: 0

basically luke gets little guy treatment and everyone loves a bit of a dramatic kiss

sfth arent better at playing female or queer characters because those roles will always be played more authentically by people with the life experiences tied to being a woman or 2SLGBTQIA+, but they are better at “writing” those characters

tv and film writers seem to try so hard to cram in “good representation” but because they have that sort of agenda to fit, lots of characters feel stale and one faceted

shoot from the hip are good at creating compelling characters in general with good story arcs, and they dont think of their female and queer characters representation, they think of them as fully fleshed out people who happen to have a trait that makes them different from the western patriarchal “default” of cishet white man. the gender or sexuality of their characters is irrelevant to the quality of character they play and the character’s personality its irrelevant to what role they get to play in the narrative, because they play the role that is needed and the character gets molded from there.

it also definitely helps that they dont live in a weird bubble of only knowing cishet men, and are friends with people from all sorts of other demographics because it means they care about the people they’re representing and the stories they are telling, so even though its not scripted, they tell good stories and stray away from burying their gays (‘oh good we didnt kill the lesbian’). they care about their stories and the people who they are representing in them and it shows
