The Original Series - Season 1 Episode 1 - The Cage
First aired September 9, 1966
General Rating - ⭐⭐⭐🔘🔘
The pilot does a great job with graphics, music, set and costumes to set the tone of the series. There are a handful of characters I am sorry aren't revisited until Strange New Worlds (I will get there eventually). Particularly Number One holds a great deal of promise.
Unfortunately, the dialogue, awkwardly and very obviously spelling out what is happening doesn't make this episode particularly immersive. And the explanation for why Pike, Number One and the yeoman are able to go free is feeble.
Love the vibes, but the plot is average.
Summary
Captain Christopher Pike investigates the call of a group of human researchers that crashed 18 years ago on the planet Talos IV. One attractive young survivor catches his eye, but everything is not as it seems.
Characters
Captain Christopher Pike, USS Enterprise
Spock, USS Enterprise
Dr. Phil Boyce, USS Enterprise
Number One, USS Enterprise
Vina
Theodore Haskins, American Continent Institute
Space Ships
USS Enterprise
USS Colombia
Planets/Locations
Rigel VII
Vega Colony
Regulus
Orion Colony
Talos IV
Species
Humans
Orions
Vulcans
Talosians
Potential ships
Pike/Vina 😑
Pike/Yeoman 🤮
Pike/Number One 🙄
All these ladies deserve better than Pike.
Well, for the time - 😬😬😬🔘🔘
For misogyny, ableism and the inability to say romantic, instead of "husband and wife relationship"
Infatuation with Captain Pike
Every woman in this episode is in love with Captain Pike, which is confusing when he comes off so condescending and unlikeable. Pike is unhappy with the (apparently recent) ability for women to be on the bridge.
The Orions
The introductions to the Orions and having someone (created from Pike's memories and thoughts) say "they like being taken advantage of" is offputting to say the least and the most obvious misogyny in the episode.
Vina (spoilers)
Vina is an interesting concept that's completely wasted. She's been in this alien zoo for 18 years. The Talosians change their minds about breeding humans because they learn humans are unhappy in any captivity, even if the humans are comfortable, despite the fact that humans are Talosians' only chance for survival as a species. Vina chooses to stay. The show says it's because she's so deformed in real life and at least she can pretend to be beautiful with a fake Pike created by the Talosians. A better, more rational explanation would have been chronic pain from the procedures that saved her life, and that's an example I thought of in five minutes. I'm sure there could have been a more satisfying explanation for why she chose to stay.

Another funny thing about weird Decepticon stans trying to pretend that the Autobots were just as bad as them is that, in IDW1, the Autobots literally did not exist until Orion Pax stormed the Senate and delivered a speech claiming "Autobot" as a new label to mean "autonomous." Whereas all of the colonization during the Golden Age happened during Nova Prime's time a couple million years prior.
And during the war, the Decepticons were literally cyberforming planets they killed and had established something called the Interstellar Constellate at some point. And Megatron said in Chaos Theory that his plan for his Decepticon empire if/when he defeated the Autobots was to rebuild and cyberform planets to create a Decepticon empire where mechanical beings reign supreme.
Like, the BEST ARGUMENT you can make is that since Optimus is a Prime, he technically inherits the problematic nature of the Primacy's history of colonization, but I think that even that argument is pretty thin considering that Optimus was always pro-organic to the point of valuing their lives equally to Cybertronians, which is something that even a lot of Autobots fail to do. Compared to other members of his species, Optimus is literally a radical in terms of his stance that organic life = Cybertronian life, but go off I guess lmao.
You can even see that during the time of Sentinel's Senate, there was an engraving on the wall that said "freedom is the right of all civilized beings", showing that Optimus at some point took that phrase and changed it to underline the fact that freedom is a universal right for ALL beings.
Tumblr media
Also, again for IDW1 specifically, a lot of anti-Optimus people clearly don't even know the timeline of events in that story. OP spent a good chunk of the story working against the Senate with things like
Storming the Senate on Megatron's behalf to deliver an angry speech against government corruption
Working with Senator Shockwave undercover to investigate Proteus being suspicious, uncovering a conspiracy to frame the Decepticons for a terrorist attack, and risking his team to prevent it
Going on the run and doing secret operations like saving hotspots from being attacked by Sentinel's forces
(For bonus points, he even saved Drift from dying either by drug overdose or being beaten to death by some thugs and called an emergency transport for him to Ratchet's clinic)
The regime change happens because Sentinel Prime is killed BY MEGATRON who at that point had already become a gladiator criminal underworld. By the time Orion is back in Iacon acting as Zeta's head of security/general/etc, Megatron is already well on the path of corruption and senseless violence doing things like arranging illegal weapon trafficking (shown in Optimus Prime) and forcing Rumble and Frenzy to get frame reformats to fit Megatron's tactical needs (Megatron Origin). Apparently Optimus doesn't deserve to have facts about his backstory and difficult contexts around his decisions be observed by this fandom though lmao.
If you take IDW1 out of context and go "OP worked for the regime!" then yeah of course it looks bad, and yes he did do that. But a lot of people also neglect to mention 1. the anti-government actions he DID take 2. the fact that by the time OP started fighting against Megatron, he had already become super evil and 3. because Megatron was super evil, Orion couldn't just desert Zeta's government and be like, "oh yeah I'll totally be able to talk Megatron out of doing terrorism and violence just on my own" especially since in this continuity they barely fuckin' knew each other before OP became a Prime. There's so much shit around OP being a cop and the ways he did or didn't succeed in trying to change the planet for the better, but none of that is addressed when people just go "oh he's a cop and the Autobots are colonizers" like ????? Stop it.
Stop taking this shit out of context and stop cherrypicking evidence to make one side look good and the other side look bad lmao.

Part 3! Ratchet and Deadlock time.
The ray of sunshine has left, leaving us in the cold dark of the angst.
Ratchet works through some stuff.
———————————————————————
Ratchet hadn’t actually meant for the conversation to start with Roddy.
The medic had wanted to fully explain why he’d left the Mecha Program for awhile. His outburst earlier cementing the fact he needed to get it off his chest, or he’d start lashing out at the wrong people.
Again.
The Kid deserved to know what staying with him could drag him into. Ratchet kept his hands busy cleaning his bowl in the shop sink.
Hot Rod, Ratchet realized, was a good enough bridge into the topic. Someone Deadlock could put a face to. Not just nameless pilots upon pilots.
“There’s a condition called Congenital Insensitivity to Pain. CIP for short. The abbreviated explanation is sometimes humans can be born without the ability to feel pain or that the sensation of pain doesn’t translate correctly to the brain. It’s a very dangerous condition to have since it means that the person doesn’t get the usual warning signs that’s something’s wrong.”
The bowl was completely clean but so long as Ratchet didn’t turn around, he could pretend he was just training a med student.
“So that question about “weird pressures”. You were checking for damage Hot Rod doesn’t know he’s sustained due this CIP condition?”
Kid was smarter than he gave himself credit for. Ratchet thought for not the first time. He almost got it right.
“Hot Rod doesn’t have CIP. Not actual CIP.”
Ratchet put the bowl down, his hand not moving from the faucet after turning it off.
“He wasn’t born with it. Because I caused it.”
—————————
“I was so damn proud.” Said Ratchet.
At the time, he was. The integration process for recruits to become pilots was horrific. Excruciatingly painful. And something out of a science fiction movie.
In order to condition the human nervous system to work with the mecha neural interface, it necessitated mapping out every nerve and neuron in the pilots body.
While conscious.
Orion came up with the best analogy for it once: You could create a perfect 3 dimensional map of an entire ant colony’s nest. Provided you poured enough molten lead down the hole.
Ratchet wasn’t one to standby watching friends or strangers suffer, so he rolled up his sleeves and set his mind to fixing the whole damn thing.
On the line between man and machine, Ratchets role in the mecha program was right on the fence.
Specifically, he’d started very close to the fence on the side of the machines, and during the course of the program, picked up enough extra PHD’s to hook a leg over said fence to reach across and start smacking the shit out of some particularly stupid doctors handling the men.
Ratchet worked for years along side Pharma and Shockwave to make the integration process less permanently damaging.
Common long term side effects were: Blurry Vision Jazz, Disassociation Swoop, Memory Loss Sludge, Paralysis Snarl, Nerve Damge Slag, Internal Hemorrhaging Grimlock, Altered Personality Shockwave, and Brain Death Orion.
There were dozens more faces Ratchet could pair with any given symptom.
Eventually, Ratchet got his lucky break. A fresh batch of recruits to try his tweaked integration process on. Hot Rod was one of them.
Ratchet had thought he’d hit a breakthrough. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t publish it yet. Not until he was sure.
Hot Rod aced the physical and mental exam. The rest of his test group did pretty well too. They weren’t cream of the crop. The higher ups didn’t want to risk loosing more valuable pilots to an experiment. When Pharma had already established an “acceptable level of care” that nicely suited them.
Ratchet personally watched the lot of them like a hawk. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
It didn’t come. Hot Rod was fine. The whole group was fine.
He was so damn proud.
The pilots went straight into mecha training and then-
They dropped like flies.
It was on the bad end of the bell curve for pilot fatalities. Ratchet thought it had to be the new series of mecha that had been built at the same time. He’d switched into engineering mode to rectify that. They had glaring safety issues where the flamethrowers and thrusters intersected. Plus, it wasn’t unusual for the mecha program to just have particularly rough seasons. The tentacled fucks were out in swarms. And by god was that a bloody summer for everyone.
It happened three days after the last big fight. Pretty much everyone who came back alive came back with some sort of injury. Except for Hot Rod, who Pharma gave a clean bill of health.
Ratchet was in his corner of the medical wing, looking over his proposal for the new integration method when Jazz dragged Hot Rod into his office.
Red flag number one: Jazz was a nightmare patient who avoided the med wing like a bear trap.
He tried. Goddamn it if Jazz didn’t try, but he was physically incapable of getting through medical procedures without being heavily sedated. The last time Ratchet tried to do minor stitches with only a local anesthetic, Jazz panicked and damn near broke his arm.
Jazz and Hot Rod were both wearing shorts, t-shirts and sneakers. Judging from the smell, they had just gotten here from the rec room. Probably basketball or maybe dodgeball.
Ratchet had gone through a full medical checklist before they finished coming through the door. Neither looked sick or injured. Nothing was obviously wrong beyond the clear look on Jazz’s face that said “Something is actually very wrong.”
Jazz wheeled Hot Rod in front of Ratchet.
“Show him.”
Hot Rod looked more embarrassed than in desperate need of medical attention.
“I’m fine Jazz, I probably just need to stretch.”
Jazz waved his hand cutting him off. Ratchet would usually start telling them off by now but something stopped him.
“Hot Rod raise your arms above your head. Both of them.”
The red headed pilot reluctantly obeyed. His right arm lifted straight up above his body. His left. Hot Rod made a face of concentration, as his left arm refused to go any higher than his head.
Three days.
Hot Rods shoulder had been dislocated for three days and no one fucking noticed.
Ratchet chewed out Jazz at first thinking he’d caused it. Then he chewed out Hot Rod for not coming to medical as soon as he knew about the injury.
And then, something very cold settled into his stomach the more and more Hot Rod swore he didn’t notice. That it didn’t even hurt.
“Ratchet, I’m fine!”
He should have been in pain. In agony after three days.
Later, Ratchet would go through each medical file of every pilot he had been responsible for. They had all had ailments in their files. Minor visible injuries that were all taken care of. Major ones went surprisingly smoothly. Patient notes praising the med staff for keeping them so comfortable. Praising him. Not one pilot had made a single pain med request since going through the integration process. On his files, there was one surviving active duty pilot from the same integration process.
Ratchet’s integration process.
————————
“Hot Rod said he forgave me.” Ratchet laughed. A little too wet and little too rough.
“Just like that.”
When’d he start shaking?
Ratchet still didn’t, couldn’t look the Kid in the eyes. “I left, not long after. There’s so much fucking more that was happening. That was the last straw, because when I told Shockwave and Pharma, those heartless fucks wanted to make it standard across the board. Soldiers that can’t feel pain? Of fucking course they wanted that. Didn’t matter the fatality rate was nine times as high.”
Ratchets voice was getting worse. But he couldn’t stop. “I thought I could fix it all from the inside. I thought as long as I stayed I could be some, fucking moral compass to a bunch of greedy, prideful, fucking deranged people. I was an egotistical IDIOT that thought I could somehow save every doomed kid tricked into walking into that “necessary evil.” I actually believed I could-”
Ratchet was abruptly cut off from his ranting as two massive hands grabbed him around the waist and deposited him on a ledge, at eye level.
“Kid, what-“ Deadlocks eyes looked shiny.
“I-I can’t keep looking down at you.”
The two of them sat in silence.
Neither seemed to know or want to start talking again right away. Ratchet was used to stewing in regrets on occasion. That had felt more like putting those regrets into a blender and then forgetting the lid.
Deadlocks plating was pulled tight. Ratchet had almost forgotten what he looked like when he was stressed. He wanted immediately to take it all back. Make it better. See him laugh drunk and cozy again like yesterday.
“Kid, I’m sorry. That- that was too much to put on you.” Deadlocks hands weren’t gripping him anymore but resting on either side of the ledge. Ratchet pet small circles on a thumb that twitched slightly under his hand.
Deadlock straightened and looked at him with a steely expression, mouth tense, eyes determined.
“You are one of the most intelligent, stubborn, and caring people I’ve ever met. Nope.” Deadlock corrected himself, lifting a hand. “THE most intelligent, stubborn and caring person that exists.” He dragged out the syllables of that last word.
“You!” He poked Ratchet in the chest. “Saved me. And I’m fragging terrible.”
Ratchet took offense to that, “You’re not terrible and you’re worth saving!”
Deadlock grinned, “The worst thing you can possibly say about yourself is that you care too much to put up with some kind of slagged up torture facility. Which, by the way, I am still fully offering to blown up.”
“Still full of innocent people kid.”
“Okay kidnapping then. I say we nab Hot Rod first.”
Ratchet leaned back against the wall and made one of those desperate chuckles you only hear when someone has their face buried in their hands. “Kid. The quintessons.”
That took a little wind out of his sails.
“The system is fucking broken and trust me I want to see it all burn someday. But we’re in a goddamn war. And as much as I hate the mecha program, it’s the best shot at survival we have.” Ratchet watched Deadlocks finales pin back again.
He offered a palm to Ratchet, who after a moment’s consideration, not very gracefully scooted on. Instead of lowering him to the floor, Deadlock brought him to his face. His eyes closed and he gently bumped his medic with his forehelm.
“Whatever you need. Just ask. Please.”
Ratchet sighed and rested his own forehead against the cybertronian. “I want you take care of yourself. I told you all that stuff so you understand why I’m fighting giants here and you can decide to back out. They can hurt you kid. Kill you. I don’t even want to think about what would have happened if Shockwave found you instead of me.”
Deadlock snorted, “Please, do you think any of those suits could handle me?”
Ratchet tapped his hand to put him down, which Deadlock obliged. He hummed.
“Well I can think of three candidates off the top of my head, but one got lost in space and the other might technically be a zombie.”
“What’s the third?”
Ratchet started shrugging on a coat, “Hot Rod.”
He smirked a bit as Deadlocks finales snapped up in offense. “What? Absolutely not. No fragging way that little rust spot can beat me in a fight.”
Ratchet began packing a go bag of medical supplies, “Well I was going to keep it to myself, but part of the reason I brought him in was because I asked Hot Rod to look out for you where I can’t.”
He slung the heavy bag over one shoulder. “Plus, I knew Hot Rod was going to love you. He sees the best in people. And kid?” Ratchet paused at the door.
“You’re someone special.”
———————————————————————
It’s always darkest before the dawn. This…has become a four parter. Dang. Good news is the ray of sunshine will return in style next time.
Some extra tid-bits, I got a head canon that the main side effect Jazz got from the integration process (other than PTSD) is blurry vision. He can see fine while hooked into a mech but can’t get his eyes to focus properly as a human. So Ratchet whipped up a visor that tricks his eyes into thinking he’s still looking through a mecha so he can see normally.
Also, a lot of you guys guessed correctly what was going on with Roddy! Good job everyone!
Lastly I have nothing personal against the dinobots if you love them I’m very sorry.
The next (last?) part will be much brighter. Because the suns coming back.
- SSTP
Oh.....oh fuck....wait WAIT THIS HAS SO MUCH MORE LAYERS THAN I WAS EXPECTING OH MY GOD
I was like. Okay huh. So Roddy can't feel pain right? He must be having this rare condition and? I don't really see where this is going? Huh. Guess it's time to find ouUUUUUH FUCK.
Please. Oh my god. The fact that Ratchet was the one who made him to be like that??? This gives both of them and their dynamic more layers than in a freaking onion. And Roddy didn't just suffer from Ratchets actions. He forgave him. Because OF COURSE he did, he's always giving everyone a second chance I LOVE THIS CONCEPT SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA

Do you have a timelime for your sparkplug au?
Yes and It's LONG. This isn't even all of it but it's what I have written out at least
Timeline: important plot points
Pre war

During war
War goes on for like…. Long ass time
Autobots land on earth
Main decepticons fallow suit and step up shop due to amount of resources
Governments make deals with different factions in place of protection and access to weapon technology
Eventually Megatron has a “oh fuck” moment when he invades an illegal mining operation in central Africa. It puts into perspective how far he has fallen, seeing his commanders make deals with those who profited off the mines, just like those in power back on cybertron.
Midlife crisis, Megatron leaves the Decepticon cause, he takes Soundwave with him. Declares he will do whatever he needs in order to free those enslaved on this planet
Megatron joins the Autobots, this cases Prowl to leave and switch sides
Battles pick up heat as both sides are desperate
Millionaires and those in places of high power use Cybertronian technology to flee earth and live in space as earth is being destroyed
Starscream kills Optimus Prime in an attempt to kill Megatron. Both sides retreat as a result
Optimus splits the matrix and gives it to Hotrod and bumblebee,
Rodimus prime and Vespa Prime are born
Optimus Prime’s spark is put in a reformation chamber with parts of Megatron in an attempt to bring him back
Treaties are made and the decepticons take Cybertron as the Autobots stay on earth
Post war
Decepticons start rebuilding Cybertroinian society
Shockwave finishes creating a replacement for Soundwave
Soundblaster is born
The first sparkling born on Cybertron in millenia emerges
Nightflyer is born
Due to the splitting of the matrix of leadership, dormant energon on earth awakens and allows for new sparklings to emerge
The attempt the revive Optimus prime’s spark fails
Sparkplug is born
A new era
Earth
The Autobots have made it their mission to help reform the planet and help the humans rebuild
Rodimus prime leaves earth in a hope to find some kind of explanation for why he feels like everything is in the shitter
Subsections of colonies start to pop up, some keep to themselves, others work directly with the autobots, some hate transformers entirely
Railroads are made more efficient in order to transport supplies across countries
Earth starts to heal with the help of the matrix, forests grow and temperatures fall to a normal level
Major cities act as sanctuaries for the human population, help from other alien races arrives as well, helping earth to become a space traveling hub
Cybertron
The Decepticons no longer go by that name, no longer wanting to be associated with the past. They go by Workers of Prime
Shockwave has put together a complicated and purposeful chain of command and leadership that he sits at the top of. However Starscream is the “king” of Cybertron, while being a puppet
Prowl takes care of enforcing laws and regulations to the planet. Along with trying to unite the cities with one another
Cybertron now has a entertainment industry, focused on promoting good morals to the population along with keeping bots distracted
Cybertron only communicate with it’s colony planets, trying to form a stronger relationship between all transformers
“Peace times” (start of the story)
Sparkplug is currently working as the assistant of Ratchet under the blessing of Megatron and Elita one
Sparkplug trains in her free time to be a scout and will sneak off every once and a while to play basement concerts
On Cybertron, Nightflyer is top of his class while training to be a high guard soldier. He is chosen by Shockwave to go on a mission to earth and infiltrate the Autobots
Cybertron is in desperate need of resources
Nightflyer lands on earth and pretends to be a Decepticon defector, Sparkplug is wary of him
Nightflyer manages to become an Autobot and meets Sparkplug during the scout tryouts
Reluctantly Sparkplug is passed but gets put on the Energon transportation and quality control team, she’s fine with this as she just wanted to see the world
Nightflyer gets put on a mission team, meeting Landlot, Defender and other bots his age.
During this time we get our first mentions of a cult ran by a former Decepticon that’s turning humans into purple energon
Both Spark and Night explore earth and meet new and old bots.
Example: Sparkplug gets to know earth born transformers, Nightflyer gets to meet bots like Skyfire
Back at the base, Sparkplug gets annoyed with how much fanfare Nightflyer is getting, while she still gets treated like a sparkling
She breaks Night’s social mask and gets to know the real him. A romance between the two starts to form
Shockwave informs Nightflyer that they’re sending a team to take over the main Autobot base
Shockwave employs the DJD to help in the Autobot attack
Return to war
Sparkplug confesses to Nightflyer, Nightflyer returns the feeling as he does like her.
Right before the invasion he tries to convince her that living on Cybertron wouldn’t be so bad. Sparkplug refutes that she likes Earth and that Cybertron would probably hate her.
The DJD and a group of seakers make their way to Earth and start fucking shit up
Big dramatic reveal to the characters that Nightflyer was a spy all along and is Starscream’s ward
Things are going in the bad guy’s favor until Tarn realizes Sparkplug is part Megatron.
He orders his men to capture her and kill everyone else, as they have a new leader of the Decepticon cause
The battle becomes even more messy as sides are switched and the Autobots and seekers are now fighting to survive
While attempting to help Megatron fight off Tarn, Sparkplug is grabbed by Soundblaster, who hopes to bring her back to Shockwave in order to get in his favor.
Space distortion happens when Skywarp tries to help get Soundblaster out of there and accidentally sends him and Sparkplug halfway across the universe.
This cases the DJD to leave as they are now looking for Sparkplug, and the seekers(after getting beaten by the DJD) are taken prisoner for now
Depression but in space
Sparkplug and Soundblaster are in the middle of nowhere on a deserted planet. After trying to restrain one another, they realize they need to help each other if they wanna survive this mess
Back on earth, Rodimus comes back from space due to getting a SOS message, he is yelled at by his family
Acidstorm, Slipstream and Airachnid are absolutely furious about being stuck on earth for the time being. Nightflyer is currently being used as a verbal punching bag for the Autobots
Back in Space, Sparkplug and Soundblaster start to develop a chemistry as they learn more about each other.
Rodiums takes it upon himself to get Sparkplug back as a way to make up for leaving everyone years ago. This is a big reference to “the lost light”, characters like megatron, rodimus, swerve and others join, along with some OC’s like Nanabah (native american sharpshooter) who forms a friendship with Preceptor, and Lobo (the lowrider transformer born on earth)
Rodimus takes nightflyer under his wing in an attempt to reform him
In space, Spark and Soundblaster start to feel romantic feelings for one another. However this is interrupted by them getting found by the DJD.
Soundwave takes it upon himself to split off from Rodimus group as he might be able to locate her better through his mind powers (I don’t know, it's all space magic man)
Sparkplug properly meets Tarn and is quickly given a new frame and alt mode against her will.
Soundwave finds the DJD with Spark on it and sneaks on, However he is caught, and even if he fights well, he can’t fight off all of them.
Tarn forces Sparkplug to finally give into her anger when he kills Soundwave in front of her and lets her kill him.
Spark takes on the name “Megatron” and is then forced to eat Tarn’s spark in an act of dominance. She is now the leader of the DJD
There will be more to come!!! this is not all of it
Part two

Note
How long have they been away from Cybertron, and is the planet alright or a hustle world?
I think at some point I'm gonna make a post with all my AU content in chronological order, but for now you can just have my notes on the timeline.
(check tags for the tldr on the ask)
Here’s the current timeline so far…
Long ass time ago BCE
The first Cybertronian Golden Age
Luna 1 disappears
Paradise era, Knights of Cybertron leave
Cybertronian Dark Age (The Age of Barbarism)
Rise of the thirteen
Cyberutopia is created somewhere
Onyx Prime (who is NOT Shockwave in this AU) attempts a colonialism
The Dead Universe and Unicron are created
Caminus, Velocitron, and other planets are colonized by Titans
Megatrous kills Solus Prime with the Star Saber
First civil war
During experimentation into gestalt technology, five beastformers are made into the first successful Combiner team: the Predacons
After the war, Nova Prime ushers in the Second Golden Age and resets the calendar
5.7 million BCE
“Functionist sentiment becomes an institution of society overseen by the Functionist Council, with robots expected to stick to a single job determined by their alt modes.” -tfwiki
Nova Prime enacts “The Expansion,” for which the first wave of cold constructed Cybertronians are brought online
Megatron (1st cycle 012) and Orion Pax are born under Functionalism. Megatron is one of the first cold constructed mechs.
The Constructicons are created
Nova Prime disappears into the dead universe and Nominus Prime takes leadership under a new corrupt senate. Expansion is put on hold
Megatron works as a miner in Tarn (demolition=menial labor class) Megs wanted to be a medic but quickly gives up on that dream
Orion Pax works as a dock worker in Iacon (truck=transport class) OP wanted to be an archivist and is able to work his way up to it due to having access to greater social mobility
Cybertron experiences no shortage of violence: civil wars, riots, off-world campaigns, and alien invasions continue to happen sporadically throughout its history. Wanting to bolster Cybertron’s airforce, a new style of war-frame is designed and mass produced. These cold constructed jets received the classification: Seekers (after their intended function: seek and destroy)
Skywarp is born (6th cycle 023) as a first generation Seeker and was immediately sent to the military. He is then at some point reassigned to spec ops due to his powerful outlier ability.
Seekers offline too easily so the next few waves of Seekers are sent to the Cybertronian War Academy for training before joining the military
Skywarp is sent to Praxus and subjected to intensive study. Space bridge and quantum based hyper-drive technology will later see great advancements thanks to his contributions to science
Thundercracker is brought online as one of the last batch of Seekers (24th cycle 124). By then the Cybertronian War Academy roster was too full so he was given the (limited) option to pick his vocation. He chose to work as a courier in Vos.
“Those who were constructed cold face institutionalized apartheid; although this eventually ends due to mounting public pressure, including mass protests and marches. However, intrinsic prejudice against constructed cold Transformers persists in among a sizable percentage of the population.” -tfwiki
Megatron and pax become friends while advocating against cold construct apartheid and functionalism. Pax considered Megatron like a brother to him but Megatron always felt distanced by their class divide
Scientists have been pulling sparks out of the Matrix faster than frames can be constructed for them. Sparks without ready frames will be “frozen” for future use
The Matrix "runs dry" (is replaced by a fake) and cold construction as a common method of creation stops entirely
The Senate’s evil science division, the Institute, establishes Shadowplay and Empurata as common practices
The energy crisis forces a planet-wide rationing of resources
Cryak commissions a Seeker frame to be constructed and has a thawed spark placed in it. Starscream is born (22nd cycle 415).
5 million BCE
Starscream escapes
Thundercracker finds Starscream
4.5 million BCE
Due to the energy crisis, tension is high between city-states. The Senate establish the sport of Gladiatorial games to try and mitigate the animosity. These games are held in Kaon and become very popular
Starscream defies Functionalism by pursuing many different jobs. Whenever he would get in trouble or fall on hard times he’d turn to Thundercracker for help
Orion Pax encourages Megatron to publish his political writings
Orion Pax joins the police force
The first appearance of the pacifist grassroots movement calling themselves Decepticons. Their ideology is based on Megatron’s first published treatise
Megatron is caught in a bar fight and is wrongfully arrested. Whirl beats him up in jail, changing Megatron’s perspective on violence
Megatron loses his job due to automation and signs up to be a gladiator
Starscream goes to college (not really, I just like to call the period of time where he went to work as a Scientist in Iacon "college" cuz it's funny XD) and meets Skyfire. The two become close
Senator Protius promises to make the Decepticons a real political party by way of census. In truth he just wanted a list of names so they can shadowplay all the Decepticons. Skyfire almost signs on but Starscream convinces him not to

He begins migrating his lab to the Decepticon's ocean base on Earth in order to finish his work there.
Megatron obtains frozen sparks from Cybertron and builds the Stunticons. The Autobots rescue half the sparks he had brought over and create the Aerialbots

Optimus Prime dies of his injuries and Bumblebee becomes leader
Hot Rod, now going by Rodimus, leaves Earth on the Lost Light

Thundercracker watches a lot of TV and is now friends with Bumblebee
The Autobots are helping capture Decepticons on Earth
Starscream struggles to lead the Decepticons
2011
Sunstorm arrives on Earth
Starscream frees the Decepticons from human containment, but they still wont follow him
2012
The humans have rebuilt the cities that were destroyed by the Decepticons three years ago
Everyone basically living as tho the war is over
Megatron is brought back by Shockwave and immediately goes to punish Starscream for doing a poor job leading the Decepticons, even tho Starscream did his best.
Skywarp's loyalty to Megatron finally breaks apart, and he gets them out of there before Megatron turns violent, effectively defecting from the Decepticons
Starscream tries to apologize to Thundercracker in order to get his help with fighting Megatron, but Thundercracker turns him down. Starscream shoots Thundercracker in the back, much to Skywarp’s dismay
Starscream and Skywarp hide out on Earth for a bit
Megatron is trying to gather his scattered forces, specifically the combiners
Starscream and Skywarp have an argument and part ways for a bit
Starscream comes across some Decepticon activity and attacks them
Megatron shows up and begins beating Starscream to a pulp
Skywarp jumps in to save Starscream but is shot mid-warp and his warp drive destabilizes
With no other option, Starscream turns to the Autobots for help, with Skywarp in tow
Thundercracker gets a dog
And that's where we are now! Thanks so much for reading!
The current plan going forward is as follows:
1 year later (2013): Combiner Wars, which leads directly into Dark Cybertron [feat. Sunstorm] followed by the Presidential Arc, which lasts about 3-5 years ending in the Apology Comic

The starships don't pass by here no more.
It didn't happen fast. God knows, I remember just about everything in my long life, and I couldn't exactly tell you when the passage stopped entirely. But I do know my great-grandpa told us about the ancient days when the skies glittered with ships, the land rumbled with their force as they leapt out into the vastness with bellies full of hunger and tenacity. And here I am now, with the skies all empty but for the sun, moon, and stars.
It's been some few thousand years since mankind unlocked hyperspace and found that the galaxy entire was at their fingertips. I wasn't alive for the glory days, the mythic centuries of conquest and colony on the tides of the stardrive. Nor was my great-grandpa, old though he was. He handed down tales of the Hyades War, the strife along the Scorpius Main, the treaties and the terrors of contact with the others out there in the deep.
Once, he said, we were the pride of the Solar Reach: all of humanity joined together across the cosmos, hand in outstretched hand, and us at the center. But the Reach was old when I was young, and now it's older still. Times changed. Mankind spread outward, the Reach reached further and further still, and it left us and our world behind.
Well, I can tell you this much. God didn't cast Man out of Eden. Man cast himself out to search for God in Heaven. And those of us still here on Mother Earth, well, we just do the work to keep her right. Someone's got to look after our home, after all. Someone's got to tend the Garden.
I was inspired by an ambient music video title of all things so here's a little Orion's Echo thing.

On the topic of Jack's dad leaving and the bots reaction to it, what do they feel for June? Because I can imagine the thought of being left to deal with a sparkling all on your own because your Conjunx and fellow caretaker just straight up abandoned you and the sparkling, does NOT leave happy thoughts in their head. Like, having a Conjunx seems pretty rare as it is, especially in the tfp universe. So to know what is essentially the human version of one abandoned June?
I'm new to this. Straight up never sent an ask on Tumblr before, uh, hope this is all right?... 😶
(I'm projecting because my own dad abandoned me, wait whaaaat, who said that??)
I wish I could hug you through the screen, anon. Sounds like you could use it. That said, I can see the bots both being unsurprised and confused all at once.
On Cybertron it was completely normal for a single bot to take on a newbuild or sparkling to mentor. At the same time, it was generally seen as a good idea to have two or more mentors involved in the rearing of a sparkling in order to diversify their education and ensure their health and wellbeing. With this in mind, the bots were not initially all that concerned when it came to June raising Jack alone. Orion Pax was brought up by Alpha Trion and the Archivists. Ratchet was raised by an entire colony of mechs of similar origin, communal style. Arcee was taught by a school for newbuilds who were not taken in by single or paired guardians. Bulkhead had a teacher who took him in when he was young and got him through school before they parted ways. Bumblebee was the collective ward of Autobot High Command and referred to all of them as his Sires, albeit with slightly different tones. Smokescreen was raised by the Elite Guard pretty much the moment he signed on. Ultra Magnus and his brother raised themselves and Wheeljack grew up in a pack of other wild newbuilds.
Simply put, there was no real standard for a family on Cybertron outside of the higher castes. Your family was what you made it. So June's situation wasn't all that jarring... until it was.
Conjunxing was rare in the extreme back on Cybertron. It was to be bound intimately and permanently in a way that even scientists had to admit had some level of supernatural effect involved. To choose to Conjunx was a lifelong commitment, a true contract for the functionally immortal Cybertronians. It was even rarer for Conjunxed partners to break way from each other, often because both parties failed to survive for long afterwards more often than not. To hear that June had been Conjunxed by human standards and then been abandoned after having a sparkling as well?
Completely and utterly unheard of.
That was not to say it didn't happen back on Cybertron, but to leave ones partner AND a sparkling? That was social execution.
To hear that June had endured that level of abandonment shook the team. According to Cybertronian custom, to try and preserve the lives of guardian and sparkling it was widely accepted that the community was to step up in the other partner's absence. And so the moment the team registered the situation and translated it culturally, there was an instant shift in disposition around June in particular. There wasn't much they could do for the human women, but they could step up in place of Jack's Sire, just as tradition dictated.
June found herself being talked to by Optimus about the loss of loved ones, earning her the story of how the Prime lost Elita-1 in an attempt to connect. Ratchet started leaving either cash that he picked up for June to use as needed, a small gesture to make up for his lack of available time. Arcee took it upon herself to step up and teach Jack the lessons a Sire would have taught, walking him through mature topics and offering the wisdom of her long life. Bulkhead did the same, trying to give what wisdom he could in the absence of Jack's other creator and even going so far as to share a few stories of his guardian back before the war to connect to the boy. Bumblebee, not having much experience in the field of parenting, instead chose to be more of a friend. He and Jack weren't particularly close, but he kept near to keep an optic on the boy in case he was having a rough day.
Neither Jack or June understood why the team adjusted their behavior and they didn't need to know. Custom would be upheld, even amidst war.

As someone who agrees with a decent amount of the pre-war Decepticon party’s views in certain continuities, some of y’all new fans are starting to piss me off with your belief that D-16 was correct in Transformers One. As someone who does a lot of community organizing and writes on sociopolitical theory vs. practice, especially within the context of the anti-colonial struggle (as well as the Black struggle simultaneously or separately depending on the context), a lot of the reasons you all choose to support D-16 and diss on Orion are actually obscene and you need to crack open a book. I normally don’t like shoving theory in people’s faces, as I think that it comes with a pedantic demeanor that relies on belittling people and feeding a moral superiority complex amongst academics. However, this is one of the cases where I think a lot of people truly need to take the time to read into why D-16’s emotions and initial reactions are valid, but the decisions he makes in providing solutions are wrong. That being said, I will be writing a paper on D-16’s fall from grace in conversation with Paulo Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed,” because a lot of the ways in which Freire discusses how the oppressed become their oppressors in the name of liberation, which is no fault of their own in some areas, is relevant to D-16’s transformation into Megatron. A lot of you are thinking with a more pathos-based means of societal change without thinking about realism, practicality, and actually analyzing D-16’s character and why he does what he does. It is more so an attempt at self-preservation and closure from embarrassment (specifically from taking the bait and living as a conformist) than an actual attempt at political change. I also encourage new fans to get more acquainted with Transformers continuities to better round their perspectives, as a lot of this is turning into the “Killmonger was right” discourse, which is problematic for a lot of reasons as a Black scholar who discusses Blackness, representation, and political discourse often in their writing. Seeing these really bad takes spread online, not only hurts how people interact with Transformers media in the future, but arguably indicates a rise of certain short-sighted political philosophies that translate directly into activism.

My Star Trek OCs and their parents
names and info under the cut:
Mom: T'Vran (58), she's an exo-agronomist.
1) T'Lyra's Family
Dad: Arev (57), he's an exo-anthropologist and ambassador assistant.
They meet at a young age in a federation colony (that has a majority of humans) while they were working in their areas. They went straight to the point and once they realized they both were compatible and soon they bonded.
Life in the colony was lonely, and they were thinking to go back to Vulcan until they were invited to a Punk Community that received them with their arms open and without hesitation. Soon they started participating until they blended well within the community.
A couple of years later T'Lyra was born in that ambient, she has a couple of siblings. They all practice the Surak teachings to a T.
T'Lyra will debate everything, she has a future in security that's for sure.
2) Shryr's Family (I'm so sorry for the long names I found it funny)
Dad 1: Nicolas Aníbal Riquelme Aravena (55), Physician
Dad 2: Yeison Antonio del Carmen Diaz Rojas (56), Engineer
They meet at a Deep Space base while studying, they bonded over being born in the same country (Chile) and soon enough they were inseparable. They went to work at the antártica and meet Shryr bio-parents and became great friends. Unfortunately, Shryr parents died in an accident and left their 3 year old toddler in their care.
Has been fun, they like to change locations (always where is cold, they do like snow not only because of their son). They don't work for the starfleet but they accept to relocate where they're nedded.
Shryr likes the life he has with his dads, he wants to pursuit exo-biology in starfleet.
3) Shanak's Family
Dad: Lorian (94), accountant
Mom: Mivi (64), IT
Both of them meet at a starbase were they work for the same office (yep, they have a 9 to 5). Lorian was a widower with a son in the way of Kolinahr while Mivi was divorced with a teenager son.
They spent a year knowing each other before courting and a year later they bonded and got married. They had Shanak 2 years later at the same starbase.
They spent holidays in their homeworlds, Shanak had some trouble with her emotions so her older Vulcan brother (who was a Kolinahr master at that point) taught her rigorous meditations skills that has helped her. Her orion brother would like her to be freer but he loves her anyway.
Her mom was a little bit delulu thinking she was going to have the same problem Amanda Grayson had when she was pregnant with her until his husband reminded her that they were just a couple of employees in a random company in a random department, neither were the ambassador for an entire planet, that made her chuckle.
Shanak is divided between science and engineering, but will pursuit both just for fun.
They all went to Starfleet in the 2370s and became great friends ❤ T'Vran and Mivi became besties once they meet (also because their daughters started dating)

Optimus Prime X Reader – Drunk Headcanons
A/N – I took a few liberties here making it a bit of a bittersweet request, with a Cybertronian reader.
Warnings – None.
Rating – T
Tumblr media
Optimus Prime… Orion Pax. Right now, Optimus feels like he is both people, and neither.
The war on Cybertron is finally over, and having come back to his home planet, Optimus realises that nobody wants him there.
It’s such a strange and hollow sensation, yet he can’t blame any of the so-called NAILS for wanting him gone.
But without the war, who is he and where can he even go?
He knows too much. He’s not the archivist anymore. He can’t fathom going back to being who he used to be. Yet, he no longer feels like Optimus Prime.
He’s mulling this over when he spots you. An old flame from a long, long time ago. You and he used to hang out, back in the day. You were the personal assistant to some of the wealthiest bots on Cybertron, though they kept you more like a prize pet.
Optimus remembers how the two of you used to sneak away for stolen moments together, dreaming about the future, one where he was maybe a senator, and you were free to simply be yourself.
Then you both started listening to Megatron’s rallies, believing that you could be more than what the Functionalists decreed and after that… Optimus didn’t know. He had become the leader of the Autobots, and honestly, he thought you were dead.
Optimus followed you through the rowdy crowds of those recently returned to Cybertron.
He tried calling you, but you couldn’t hear him over the noise. Sometimes he lost sight of you and it stressed him out completely, even though it was ridiculous that he should still be attached to you after all these millennia. But he would always spot you again at the last minute, and finally, he was able to catch up with you. When he did, all he managed was a lame “…Hello.”
“Hello,” You echoed back, equally surprised to see him, and that he had followed you.
Optimus tries to explain why he had to catch up with you, but in truth, he doesn’t know why. He has seen a hundred familiar faces of friends he thought had perished, yet you were the only one he had felt the need to chase down.
He tries to ask where you’ve been all these years and how you’ve managed to stay safe, but again, words fail him.
Finally, you smile sympathetically. “Want to get a drink? I’ve got some high-grade on my ship.”
Optimus nods and follows you away.
When you said your ship, he thought you meant the ship you lived on, not literally your ship!
But it is. He asks you about it, but you shake your head and tell him to wait for drinks. You and he pass some crew, but a warning look from you sends them scattering. It’s not that you’re being mean, but rather that you have seen Optimus for the first time since the war began, and it’s clear that he needs something to hold onto. So, for now, you’re going to give him time to just
No leading, no pressures, just two old friends, catching up.
You talk about everything and nothing while you both get started on the high grade, waiting till Optimus is just a little bit tipsy before you explain where you’ve been all these years.
While Optimus was leading the war effort, you became a space Pirate, and Captain of the Good Ship Misery. It’s not an aptly named ship. It’s actually one of the happiest in the nearest 7 quadrants.
Your crew set up supply runs between the few colonies of NAILS that managed to survive. You looked out for the bots who couldn’t take care of themselves, bringing them energon, and medical supplies, or even escorting the occasional bot through Decepticon territory. Meanwhile, you learned how to fight, boarding Decepticon ships and taking what you could from their weapons to their body parts, if there was an innocent bot in need of repair.
You are so far from the meek young bot Optimus once knew. Then again, he’s nothing like he used to be either.
Yet, the way you tell it, that isn’t a bad thing.
Soon, you get onto the harder stories. Friends lost, traitors found, enemies made, that kind of thing. Optimus has a whole trove of such stories too. So, you both drink more and more, until it’s not as sad anymore.
Then, you’re both laughing. After that, you’re crying, but given even more high-grade, it’s back to the good times.
Finally, it’s getting early into the next cycle, and you’re sitting at the bar, head resting lopsidedly in your palm, staring at Optimus.
“Why did you follow me, Optimus?”
He looks at you like a sad puppy who doesn’t have a home to go to and follows the first friendly face it finds.
“I don’t know,” He replies, fear lacing his answer.
You lean forward to kiss his cheek-plate, only lingering for a few seconds.
“When you figure it out, tell me. In the meantime, you’re welcome to stay here, but I’ve got to get my crew together. We’ve still got work to do.”
You leave Optimus at the ship’s bar, giving him time to figure out what he wants now. It’s nice to see him again, even if you’re not sure that he’s going to stay.

GUESS WHO'S BIRTHDAY IT IS!!
in honor of my birthday here are some more rescue bots headcanons!!
they (as in constructed rescue bots) have extra color receptors which allows them to see more types of light than other bots, as well as advanced hearing (they’re also the only bots with noses so they have an extra sense)
all of them have outliers (its a requirement to be a rescue bot)
blurr changed his paint job (post s4, before he showed up in rid15) because heatwave and blades basically bullied him into it
the academy where they studied was on a moon of cybertron’s, and they actually spent very little time on cybertron itself. it was sorta like a field trip spot, and they went very infrequently
quickshadow was the academy's champion shot, and she won a bunch of competitions
the rescue bots all had specialties outside of what they actually did (heatwave was a history nerd, boulder studied xenobiology, blades took journalism, chase did psychology, quickshadow was a data analyst, hightide took astronomy)
hightide was actually friends with both orion pax and megatronus separately before they realized they all knew each other
in that same vein, servo and lazerbeak were longtime friends because they grew up together
optimus is so ridiculously tolerant towards whatever the rescue bots do that they actually have a running bet on how much they can get away with before optimus gets angry (he never once has)
blurr's reputation as most annoying bot ever has been intact since way before the war when he was a racer
blades got his name through an awkward mishap at an armory that heatwave never let him live down
related to that, all the rescue bots' "names" are really more of nicknames. their names are listed on documents but their primary identification is through serial numbers because they're cold constructs
boulder had a practically bullet proof reputation at the academy as the perfect student so whenever the others wanted to get away with something they always involved him
when salvage heard about DIY's he got super into them and started making tons of pointless stuff. he never even followed the good channels, only stuff like troom troom
chase succumbs to peer pressure ridiculously easy
heatwave gives really good advice but only on accident
quickshadow and hightide like to hang out and trash talk optimus whenever he does something they don't like
blades only has field medicine training, he's not cleared for any actual treatment outside of an emergency (he can do first aid and EMT stuff but can't, like, prescribe things or do surgery). this has not stopped him from trying things though.
salvage is actually from one of cybertron's colony worlds, but he grew up on cybertron
ok here's a fun little surprise in honor of my birthday: the humans are also included in headcanons!!
kade was actually very good at gymnastics, he just got bored of it
chief burns needs glasses but he prefers to wear contacts
dani had a very extreme scene core phase, and her hairstyle is a remnant of that
frankie has super high government security clearance as a super genius and daughter of one of the world's best scientists, so she knows all kinds of military secrets
doc greene and chief burns met in childhood, doc's family moved away, and then when he got older he moved back to griffin rock and reunited with the chief
graham is the biggest night owl because of college. sometimes, when he has trouble falling asleep, the bots invite him to movie night and they all watch reruns of old movies or shows
building off that, there are two kinds of movie night: the first is with the whole burns family, rescue team, and sometimes others such as optimus or the greenes. the second is less of a movie night and more of a "we need something to do while the humans are sleeping, let's watch trashy tv all night." this kind of movie night is really just the bots (minus whoever has night shift)
professor baranova actually used to be pretty upbeat, although she was a bit misunderstood because she's neurodivergent (i also headcanon that after the whole living underwater for 28 years thing she developed DID and multiple alters to cope with the loneliness, so she's now a system)
woodrow and optimus are in a qpr. optimus refers to him as his amica, and also privately thinks of him as his human partner
doc greene at some point developed a working synthetic energon formula completely independently. when ratchet first met him (post war, probably right before he was hired to work at the rescue academy) and learned about this he lost his shit
bumblebee and dani race together all the time when he visits
this is where i'm gonna stop this post, because it's pretty late for me lol. it was my birthday today, so happy birthday to me!!
also y'all PLEASE talk to me abt any of these headcanons i will be thrilled to elaborate!

as like The marxist leninist transformers fan (im literally in a ML political party and do revolutionary activism in my personal time)
im telling all of u rn
it is possible that BOTH d-16 AND orion pax were right. like. im begging all of you to not think about this in black and white. BEGGING you.
i have to literally sit down and watch the movie scene by scene and take notes to write the analysis i want to, but im going to give you something VERY brief.
Iacon City is NOT a fully fascist society. It is, in fact, a colony of the Quintessons. It is the victim of Quintesson imperialism.
Sentinel's leadership is absolutely on the path to fascism, but NOT FULLY fascist. Is Sentinel himself a fascist? Yeah, probably. But his societal development is not. this is not to say he isn't an evil dictator- HE ABSOLUTELY IS.
D-16 represents the proletariat's rage against the oppressor. D-16 represents the quote "Either place yourself at the mercy of capital, eke out a wretched existence as of old and sink lower and lower, or adopt a new weapon [violent revolution]-this is the alternative imperialism puts before the vast masses of the proletariat. Imperialism brings the working class to revolution." (-J.V. Stalin, the foundations of leninism).
Orion, Elita One, B-127 and D-16 represent the vanguard party. Orion is NOT like lenin whatsoever, except in his representation of revolutionary optimism, but the role he takes on is similar to lenin's role in the russian revolution simply because he finds himself as the leader.
NO WHERE IN THE MOVIE DOES ORION PAX TALK ABOUT REFORM.
ORION LITERALLY SAYS "I'm thinking about what WE'RE going to do." he AGREES with D-16 that something ABSOLUTELY has to be done about Sentinel. ORION LITERALLY LEADS A VIOLENT COUP AGAINST SENTINEL.
and, something that ALL of yall with this take are conveniently ignoring, is Orion's line "The rebuilding of Iacon cannot start with an execution."
WHICH, OBJECTIVELY, FROM A HISTORICAL STANDPOINT, IS CORRECT.
Yall remember the Chinese revolution in which they overthrew the emperor (who btw was just as evil as sentinel) and then literally turned him into a street cleaner?????
it IS possible to overthrow a violent, evil dictator and then exact revenge on them, while also building a far more moral society in the process.
