Panoramic Precision: Transformative Insights into Dental Health at Capture Life Dental Care, Hyderabad
Introduction
In the realm of modern dentistry, panoramic dental X-rays stand out as a remarkable diagnostic tool, offering an extensive view of the oral landscape in a single image. These advanced imaging techniques, also known as Panorex or orthopantomograms, play a crucial role in enhancing the precision of dental diagnostics and treatment planning. Whether you are searching for the best dental clinic near you or seeking insights into advanced dental care, understanding the significance of panoramic dental X-rays is essential for maintaining optimal oral hygiene and overall well-being.
At Capture Life Dental Care, Hyderabad, we believe in providing comprehensive dental care that goes beyond routine check-ups.
How Panoramic X-Rays Work
Panoramic dental X-rays utilize cutting-edge imaging technology to capture a broad and detailed view of the entire oral cavity in a single image. Unlike traditional X-rays that focus on specific areas, panoramic X-rays provide a comprehensive picture, encompassing the teeth, jaws, temporomandibular joints, and surrounding structures.
The heart of the panoramic X-ray process lies in the sophisticated design of the panoramic X-ray machine. Patients are positioned carefully, either standing or sitting, as the machine rotates around their head. During this rotation, the machine emits X-rays that pass through the oral structures, creating a continuous image on a digital sensor or film.
The rotation ensures that the X-ray beam captures a panoramic view by moving in a curved trajectory. As the machine rotates, it captures multiple images, which are then digitally stitched together to create a seamless, high-resolution panoramic image. This panoramic view allows dental professionals to assess the entire oral region in a single, detailed snapshot. The non-invasive nature of this imaging technique ensures minimal discomfort for the patient.
Moreover, the panoramic X-ray machine employs specialized technology to minimize radiation exposure. Advanced features like collimators and lead aprons are employed to focus the X-ray beam precisely, ensuring that only the necessary areas are exposed. This commitment to safety aligns with the modern principles of reducing radiation exposure while maximizing diagnostic benefits.
Applications and Benefits
One of the primary benefits of panoramic X-rays is their ability to capture a wide view of the entire mouth in one image. This is particularly useful in assessing the overall oral health and identifying issues that may not be visible with traditional X-rays.
Dental practitioners can examine the spatial relationships between teeth, identify potential issues in the jawbone, and evaluate the alignment of the temporomandibular joints. The wide view facilitated by panoramic X-rays aids in uncovering conditions that might go unnoticed with conventional dental imaging.
Panoramic X-rays are instrumental in the early detection of various oral health issues. This imaging technique plays a crucial role in identifying impacted teeth and jaw disorders. By providing a detailed view of the entire oral anatomy, dentists can pinpoint the presence of impacted wisdom teeth, abnormalities in tooth development, and signs of temporomandibular joint disorders. Early detection allows for prompt intervention and personalized treatment plans, ultimately preventing the progression of these issues and promoting long-term oral health.
Moreover, panoramic X-rays are instrumental in the evaluation of bone density and the detection of cysts or tumors in the jawbone. This proactive approach to diagnosis exemplifies the commitment to preventive dental care, a cornerstone in maintaining optimal oral hygiene.
At Capture Life Dental Care located in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, we prioritize your comfort. Panoramic X-rays offer a comfortable experience as they eliminate the need for uncomfortable bitewings and intraoral films. This makes them an excellent choice for patients of all ages.
Conclusion
In summary, panoramic dental X-rays are a valuable tool in modern dentistry, providing a comprehensive view of the oral region. The Truth About Root Canals: Expert Insights from Austin Dentists
Ever had that brief moment of panic when your dentist mentions the dreaded words "root canal"? Well, you're not alone. The mere mention of this dental procedure sends shivers down many spines.
But what if I told you that much of what you've heard about root canals is likely rooted in myth? Yep, that's right. We sat down with some expert Austin dentists to bring you the real deal on root canals. Let’s take a look, shall we?
What is a Root Canal?
At its core, a root canal is like giving your tooth a second chance at life. When a tooth gets infected or suffers severe damage, there's an inner part called the pulp that can be affected. This pulp contains nerves and blood vessels and can cause a heck of pain when inflamed. Enter the root canal treatment.
Austin dentists, in their infinite wisdom, will remove this damaged or infected pulp, clean out the tooth's inner chamber, and then seal it to prevent any future infections. Think of it like cleaning out a wound and then bandaging it up. This procedure doesn't just alleviate pain but also saves your tooth from extraction.
And here’s the kicker: With today’s dental advancements and the skills of seasoned Austin dentists, the process is streamlined and often painless. So, next time you hear “root canal,” remember it’s not a horror story; it's a story of redemption for your tooth.
Debunking Common Root Canal Myths
Many tales have been woven around root canals. However, let's play a game of myth-busting, Austin-style:
Root canals are a ticket to days of pain and discomfort. Fact: Well, times have changed. Today, the procedure is quite straightforward. With the right anesthesia and the expertise of Austin dentists, you'll likely feel nothing more than slight discomfort, similar to getting a filling.
Once you get a root canal, your tooth will become fragile and useless. Fact: After a root canal, most Austin dentists recommend a crown to reinforce the tooth. Once that's done, your tooth will be just as sturdy and functional as its neighbors.
Extracting a tooth is a better option than a root canal. Fact: Every tooth is precious. If we can save it, we should. A root canal preserves the natural structure of your mouth, ensures proper bite and jaw function, and avoids the additional costs and procedures associated with tooth replacement.
The Signs You Might Need a Root Canal
No one knows your mouth better than you do. And while occasional tooth discomfort is common, there are a few telltale signs that it might be time for a chat with your favorite Austin dentist:
Pain: One of the most glaring signs is severe tooth pain, especially when you're munching on your favorite snacks or sipping on a hot cuppa. If every bite sends a jolt of pain, it's time to see a professional.
Sensitivity: Ever bitten into ice cream and felt your tooth scream in protest? While some sensitivity is common, if it lasts longer than 30 seconds or is triggered by hot foods as well, you might be in root canal territory.
Color: If one of your pearly whites isn't so pearly anymore and is taking on a darker hue, this could be an indicator of nerve damage or decay. Time for a dental intervention.
Gums: Keep an eye on your gums too. Swollen, tender gums around a specific tooth could be signaling an underlying issue.
Your teeth have ways of communicating with you, and it's crucial to listen. Early intervention by Austin dentists can make a world of difference, ensuring you maintain that dazzling smile.
Aftercare: Taking Care of Your Tooth Post-Procedure
Alright, so you've conquered the root canal with the help of your trusted Austin dentist. Now, the after-party begins (and by party, I mean the aftercare). Keeping that newly-treated tooth in tip-top shape is essential, and there are some tips you must follow:
Foodie alert: While your tooth and surrounding gums are healing, it's a wise idea to sidestep super hard or chewy foods. That popcorn movie night? Maybe switch it up with a soft ice cream sundae for now.
Brush, rinse, repeat: Keeping the area clean is paramount. Gently brush the treated area and continue with your regular flossing routine. Some Austin dentists might even recommend a saltwater rinse for a few days post-procedure to keep everything fresh and infection-free.
Medication matters: If your dentist prescribes any antibiotics or pain relievers, make sure you take them as directed. They're your sidekicks in ensuring a smooth recovery.
Remember, the journey to oral health doesn't end when you leave the dental chair. With a little TLC, your tooth will be back to its former glory in no time.
Why Trusting Your Dentist is Key
We entrust dentists with our smiles: that's a big deal. It's about more than just teeth; it's about trust, understanding, and feeling comfortable during every dental adventure.
Austin dentists pride themselves on not just their dental prowess but also their ability to connect with patients. The foundation of any great dentist-patient relationship is built on three T's:
Trust: You're sharing your concerns, your fears, and sometimes even your embarrassing coffee or wine stains. Knowing your dentist has your best interests at heart is crucial.

Tackling Bad Breath: Your Guide to Fresh and Confident Smiles
We've all been there – that awkward moment when you catch a whiff of something less than pleasant while engaging in conversation. Yes, we're talking about bad breath, scientifically known as halitosis. It's a common woe that can dent your confidence and impact your interactions. But fear not! This article is your one-stop shop for exploring a variety of remedies to combat bad breath, from adopting oral hygiene practices to embracing lifestyle changes.
Understanding the Culprits Behind Bad Breath
The primary trigger of bad breath is the buildup of bacteria and food particles in your mouth. This gathering of unwelcome guests can release an aroma that rivals anything you'd find in a perfume store – and not in a good way. It's important to note that while oral issues are typically the main cause, underlying medical conditions can also contribute.
Gum disease, sinus infections, and respiratory tract infections create a cozy home for bacteria, allowing them to produce those less-than-pleasant odors. Dry mouth, a result of certain medications or systemic diseases, can lead to decreased saliva production. This in turn leads to a surge in bacterial growth and, unsurprisingly, bad breath.
Championing Oral Hygiene for Fresher Breath
Fresh breath starts with impeccable oral hygiene. An easy addition to your routine is tongue scraping, which involves gently removing bacteria and debris from your tongue's surface. Research shows this simple practice can significantly reduce those volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) that cause unpleasant odors. Make it part of your daily routine!
Mouthwash is another key player in the battle against bad breath. Choose one that suits your needs – antimicrobial mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine or essential oils kill bacteria, while fluoride mouthwash strengthens enamel and fights bacterial growth.
Remember, while these practices offer a quick fix, they can't replace addressing the root causes of bad breath. For lasting results, seek advice from a dental professional to identify and tackle the underlying issues.
Unveiling Natural Remedies for Fresh Breath
If you're more inclined toward natural solutions, we've got you covered. Herbal mouthwashes have stood the test of time, harnessing the power of ingredients like peppermint, tea tree oil, or sage extract to fight bacteria and mask odors.
Ever heard of oil pulling? Swishing edible oil (like coconut or sesame) in your mouth for a few minutes can help eliminate odor-causing bacteria and toxins.
Certain foods like parsley and yogurt can also lend a hand. Chlorophyll-rich parsley and probiotic-packed yogurt temporarily neutralize odors.
While these remedies can offer relief, their long-term efficacy is still up for debate. If chronic bad breath persists, consult a dental professional for tailored guidance.
Dental Pros to the Rescue: Professional Treatments
The dental realm isn't all drills and fillings – it's also a treasure trove of solutions for bad breath. Scaling and root planing, breath-freshening rinses, and tongue scraping are tried-and-true methods. Specialized mouthwashes formulated to target the root causes of bad breath are also at your disposal. These powerhouses either obliterate bacteria or neutralize odor-causing compounds.
Ever heard of chlorhexidine-based rinses? These heavyweights are known for their antimicrobial properties, while zinc-infused mouthwashes neutralize sulfur compounds responsible for bad breath. If you're seeking the latest in technology, laser therapy is gaining traction, promising to zap those bacteria without harming your mouth's surroundings.
Lifestyle Tweaks for Fresher Breath
What's on your plate matters – garlic, onions, strong spices, and coffee can all contribute to bad breath. Opting for fresher alternatives like fruits and veggies can do wonders for your oral aroma.
If you're a smoker, quitting is not just about sidestepping a unique odor. Smoking dries your mouth, aiding plaque and bacteria buildup. Stubbing out that cigarette can lead to a whole bouquet of health benefits beyond fresher breath.
Remember, lifestyle changes are just one piece of the puzzle. Pair them with other treatments like dental interventions or medications if needed.
In Conclusion: Banishing Bad Breath for Good
In the grand scheme of things, bad breath doesn't stand a chance against your arsenal of knowledge. Armed with effective oral hygiene practices, natural remedies, professional dental treatments, and lifestyle changes, you're poised to regain confidence and conquer those awkward moments.
Maintaining good oral hygiene, trying out natural remedies, seeking professional dental care, and making mindful lifestyle adjustments will all contribute to a breath of fresh air. Remember, you're not alone in this journey – dental professionals are here to guide you toward a life free from the clutches of bad breath. So smile, because you're equipped to face the world with the confidence of fresh, minty breath!

HEALTH SHOULD ALWAYS COME FIRST! PRIORITISING HEALTH BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE TO LOOK GOOD + FEEL GOOD.
People always leave out the basics when it comes to trying to improve their looks. Prioritising health is so important before going in and tempering with your body. Your base is what you work with and you can definitely level up with what you've got naturally.
DIET
Your diet also depends on what your goals are. Someone who wants to build muscle will obviously eat differently from someone who just eats relatively healthy. So identify what your goals are and work your meals around that.
Here are some videos to give you a better insight: HOW I LOSE FAT AND KEEP IT OFF MEANS, WORKOUTS + EVERYTHING ELSE PROTEIN EXPLAINED, STRENGTH, MUSCLES, FAT LOSS & ENDURANCE HOW METABOLISM WORKS
Diet not only makes you feel better from the inside, but it also reflects on your outside. Your skin is a huge display of how you eat.
When you consume junk food, it can show up on your skin as breakouts or dullness. Your skin is one massive organ which soaks up everything put onto it and reflects everything you put inside your body. Fix the problem from the inside before getting confused about why your skincare routine isn't working.
FITNESS
Again, your fitness will differentiate from your goals. So work out your goals and make a plan around that. There are so many forms of fitness, some more intense than others and with different results. Working out in general is good for you, our bodies are meant to move. So even if you don't have a goal, staying active is always recommended.
HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT WORKOUT PLAN
THE BEST WAY TO GAIN MUSCLE, SCIENCE EXPLAINED SIMPLY
Low-intensity workouts:
Yoga: Focuses on flexibility, strength, and relaxation through various poses and breathing techniques.
Pilates: A low-impact exercise method that strengthens muscles, improves flexibility, and enhances posture.
Walking: Simple yet effective, walking is a great way to improve cardiovascular health and boost mood without high impact.
Swimming: Provides a full-body workout with minimal stress on joints, making it ideal for people with joint issues or injuries.
High-intensity workouts:

These are just a few examples, but there are plenty of other workout styles out there to explore depending on your preferences and fitness goals. Walking every day is just a simple way to stay toned.
SLEEP
Sleeping is important for rest and recovery after workouts and energy-consuming activities. Sleep is needed for the brain to function, mood regulation and performance + productivity. Lack of sleep deprives you of all of these things, so getting your beauty sleep is absolutely needed.
School-age children (6-13 years): 9-11 hours per day.
Teenagers (14-17 years): 8-10 hours per day.
Young adults (18-25 years): 7-9 hours per day.
Adults (26-64 years): 7-9 hours per day.
HYGIENE
Upkeeping good hygiene is always needed anyway. Making sure you are clean (smelling good is a plus). Make sure you always wash your hands and take daily showers to remove any dirt on your body (clean those feet and your back well, don't forget them!). Taking care of your oral health must not be forgotten. Oil pulling and brushing your tongue for a healthy mouth. Make sure your hair is also getting the attention to keep it as healthy as you possibly can make it (this also depends on diet). Doing the extra things like spending time on your nails (making sure there isn't that stuff underneath them), making them pretty.
BODY CARE ROUTINE | FOR SMOOTH & GLOWING SKIN, TREATING KERATOSIS PILARIS, SHOWER ROUTINE
ENVIRONMENT
Having a stress-free environment is obviously the best to thrive in. But clearly not even being lucky enough to live like that constantly. So make sure you have that space to be on your own and have some alone time to really recharge. Keeping your space clean for a clear mind. Surround yourself with like-minded people and really set boundaries for those who prey on your mental clarity (energy vampires). Spending time in nature is one of the best ways to detach, rest time should not equal spending time on your devices. Let go and truly let yourself decompress. Mental health will improve how you carry yourself.
EMBODY YOUR POTENTIAL.

Stoma gave Käärijä a new life - english translation of an interview for Finnilco ry 8.5.2023
Translator’s note:
If you’ve been wondering about that scar on Finland’s favorite green boi’s belly …this is about that. (Because why be cha cha cha when you can be sad sad sad and read about how he was like a week away from death at one point in his life. Though I guess it kinda fits the post-ESC depression, really)
Okay, now some actual notes about the text. So, Finnilco is a Finnish organisation for patients with stomas and the like, so the interview talks a lot about medical stuff and is clearly geared towards people with similar health issues. It might not be as ”entertaining” as all the other stuff you might’ve seen about him recently, but I recommend reading it anyways, as I feel it gives a lot of insight to who Käärijä is as a person. It hasn’t always been just crazy and party for him.
There is a lot of medical vocabulary in this, and I’ve done some intense googling and wikipedia-ing to figure out what the correct terms are, but I can only hope they are right. Trying to understand whether things are synonymous with each other or completely different things is kinda hard when you have zero knowledge about the subject. I deeply apologize for any mistakes that might occur.
I’ve also done some minor tweaks to the text (like cut down on repeating his last name in nearly every sentence) for the sake of easier reading, as the style of it is quite academic and ”dry”, but overall I’ve kept as close to the original as I could.
link to the original finnish interview:https://www.finnilco.fi/post/avanne-antoi-k%C3%A4%C3%A4rij%C3%A4lle-uuden-el%C3%A4m%C3%A4n
***
Jere Pöyhönen, known by his artist name Käärijä, is the finnish representative in the Eurovision 2023 Song Contest. The artist, known for his style and energetic live-performances, had his youth shadowed by serious health issues, to which he even almost lost his life.
By his own words Pöyhönen is still just a normal guy. Vantaa-born Pöyhönen was diagnosed with colitis ulcerosa, a type of imflammatory bowel disease, when he was young. As the disease got worse, he had to eventually have an emergency surgery, where he got a temporary stoma. Later the stoma was removed and replaced with a J-pouch (ileo-anal pouch), a reservoir pouch formed from the end of his small intestine. Currently in good health, he wants to be open about his disease so that he could offer peer support to others battling with the same issues.
- I am truly fine with this, I am not ashamed about it, on the contrary, I want to tell about this to everyone. I hope that by sharing my experience I could help someone else, Pöyhönen says with a smile.
Symptoms lead to an emergency operation
When Pöyhönen was at ninth grade, he was diagnosed with rectal inflammation. The inflammation was treated with suppository and oral medication, and it got better. When he was 18, the symptoms returned. For a year he was on an elimination diet that kept the inflammation under control, but eventually his condition got worse again, and in the end his entire colon got inflamed. Several treatments were attempted, but none worked. At the worst point Pöyhönen weighed only 49 kg, and his hemoglobin was swaying between 54-56.
- I was still somewhat right in the head, though I was feeling dizzy and kept bumping into bathroom doors. It was quite a rough time in every way, he reminisces. He defecated blood multiple times a day and was practically bedridden, his parents had to feed him. But nothing seemed to help. Pöyhönen remembers how his mother was crying by his bedside. Back then he had blood tests done regularly to control his condition, and after one time he got a call and was told that his hemoglobin was so low that he needed to be treated urgently. After the call his dad went to start the car and drove him straight to the hospital.
At the hospital, an emergency surgery awaited. While waiting for his turn he wondered about what would happen to him in the surgery, afraid that he’d need a stoma. At the same time he thought that the most important thing was to stay alive.
- Do whatever you have to, as long as I’ll get better, he remembers thinking before going in. A stoma had been suggested to him already before, but until then he hadn’t been able to accept it and had tried to manage by other means. Afterwards he has been thinking that the fear was due to the issue being so unknown. He didn’t know much about stomas and had never seen anyone with one.
- It was a tough spot. I wondered how the stoma would affect my life and me as a person. How would I look like, what would happen to my sexuality. Those kind of things scared me the most about it, he recalls.
Life as a young person with a stoma
The first thing he did after waking from the surgery was feeling his stomach and the collection bag.
- It was a weird feeling, confusing. But at the same time I felt just immense calmness. The root of the problem, the inflamed colon had been removed entirely. Confusion soon turned into acceptance.
- I wasn’t sad about it for that long, on the contrary. When it sank in that I was still alive, the stoma felt like a pretty small thing, considering everything. It was a happy thing that I had it.
Despite feeling thankful about the stoma, it was still a shock at the beginning.
- When I was taken to get a shower for the first time and I saw it, I nearly fainted, he laughs.
The emergency surgery was lifesaving for Pöyhönen. if it hadn’t been done, the inflammation could’ve spread from his bowel to the rest of the body within weeks, or even days. So Pöyhönen came really close to death, but thanks to the stoma he got to continue living.
– Getting the stoma gave me a second chance. A chance that not everyone gets to have. But if they get it, they should take the offer with a smile.
Pöyhönen tells that he got used to living with the stoma quite quickly. But it required him to adjust his own attitude – he had to accept the situation as it was. Luckily he was able to enjoy life even with the stoma
- When I had it, I did all the same stuff as other people. I did sports, went to restaurants, I truly lived a really ordinary life.
Of course he faced also some difficult times. At the time 18 years old Pöyhönen was in a relationship, and he tells that at first things relating to sexuality felt difficult.
- It was indeed nerve-racking. Overall, you are only starting to try out stuff at that age, and then there is the stoma on top of it all.
But one thing was clear for him already at the time:
- If the other party in the relationship doesn’t accept your situation or the stoma, then that person isn’t worthy of you.
From stoma to J-pouch
Pöyhönen lived with the stoma for five months until it was replaced with a j-pouch. In the beginning the pouch got clogged, but he didn’t tell about it right away. He was fed up with spending his time in a hospital and wanted to live a normal life. When he finally told about the clogging, the issue was fixed and the difficulties eased.
- I’ve done all the normal stuff. I’ve travelled around the world, done and eaten the same things as everyone else.
Pöyhönen has had the j-pouch for almost eight years now. He hasn’t had any serious complications, but occasionally there’s been some milder issues.
- Sometimes there’s been minor inflammation or bleeding. Once I went to have an endoscopy after there was more blood and I got frightened. Old fears about how things were in the past rose to the surface, Pöyhönen tells.
Overall he is feeling positive about everything.
– At the moment I’m really contented with my situation, and I wouldn’t change anything. I wouldn’t even want that colon back, as this all has become a part of my identity, he says.
Music as a part of life
Music has always meant a lot for Jere Pöyhönen. Yet it wasn’t always obvious that it would turn into a career.
While spending his time in hospitals, listening to music comforted him and gave him hope. Laying in a hospital bed with an IV drip next to him, Pöyhönen also wrote his own songs. If other patients wondered about his doings, he simply answered that he was making music.
During his time in hospital he realized that life might be short. He decided that if he’d be alive and healthy again after the emergency surgery, he’d go and try doing music for real and with everything he had. Of course, at the time he had no idea how far that decision would eventually bring him.
- My values became clearer there in the hospital. I realized what are the things I love and what is truly important for me. One of those things is music, and doing that was what I set my mind on to.
Pöyhönen tells that he especially enjoys doing live shows, because then he gets to entertain people. He feels he is at his best while performing.
Daily life of an artist
Nowadays health issues don’t cause much trouble in Pöyhönen’s everyday life as an artist, but he still needs to take good care of his body. At gigs he must pay extra attention to what he drinks and eats, when and how much. He is sweating a lot while performing on stage, and to balance that he drinks salt/mineral water. The excitement also affects his bodily functions, and during stressful moments he’ll need to use the bathroom more often. But he tells that he doesn’t really get nervous about doing gigs anymore.
However, the approaching Eurovision song contest is a kind of gig he has never experienced before. The event is big and the place as well as the proceedings are all new to him. Despite all that, Pöyhönen seems trustful.
- I don’t know how it is going to be like in there, but I don’t think I’ll have any problems. His confidence relies both on his general attitude and that over the years he has learned to know the way his body functions quite precisely. He knows when his energy levels are getting low and when he needs to drink or eat.
Family’s support has been important
When Pöyhönen was sick, the support from his family was what helped him to keep going. Thanks to his family he has always felt valued and loved.
– The contribution from my parents has been enormous. I will never be able to repay their efforts, other than by being alive.
Pöyhönen tells how his parents gave him their full support while he was sick.
- When I first got diagnosed with the rectal inflammation, they wanted to figure out what could cause it right away. They delved deep into the matter, made phone calls and searched for information from the internet.
His parents drove him to his tests and put their time and money into finding out what was going on. The financial support made it possible that he could have all the different tests done despite them costing a lot.
Stories from peers bring hope
Though his family and friends have been there for him, they haven’t been able to offer him peer support. When he was sick, Pöyhönen did sometimes feel very alone with his issue.
- I didn’t know anyone else in a similar situation as myself. I didn’t get to talk face to face with peers, he says. He did search for peer stories from internet, but people online were usually anonymous, and though he gained information through it, he was longing for human connection and faces to relate to. Lucky for him, an acquaintance of his was in the hospital at the same time as him due to a similar issue. They became friends and messaged daily through Facebook, asking each other about the number of times they went to bathroom and the like.
Pöyhönen says that those kind of discussions with a peer were a big help. It was important to hear that someone else was experiencing similar things as him. An ice hockey player Teemu Ramstedt gave him another face to relate to.
– It gave me lot of faith to see someone else with the same stuff going on as me. That an athlete, a hockey player, had been dealing with the same issues, he tells.
Attitude and dreams helping to go forward
While being sick Pöyhönen gained strength from daydreaming and steering his thoughts towards future.
- I kept thinking that at some point I’ll have good moments with my family and friends again. That one day I’ll be healthy and able to feel happy about everything. In the end it was quite simple things that helped, and also humor helped to get through it all.
Pöyhönen tells that he has been a joker since he was young, and when he was unwell, he also used humor to deal with the difficult things. But there was also something else hidden underneath the jokes.
- Maybe all the joking was also a survival tactic. A way to escape from it all. In the beginning I didn’t want to accept the reality, even though I tried to convince myself that I had done so.
Pöyhönen tells that the songs he used to listen to while in hospital were difficult to listen to after he got out of there. Also some familiar places would bring up old memories in an unpleasant way.
But in the end, time heals, and years later those same songs are back on his regular playlist. Now they just uplift his mood and push him forward.
It’s worth it to open up
When Pöyhönen was sick, he didn’t always tell about his symptoms to his parents or the hospital staff right away. One reason that he mentions was shame. At first he himself didn’t want to believe it to be real when he first saw blood down in the toilet.
- But when it happened again, I realized that this might not be something that would just go away. That it might be something more serious that should be taken care of, he recalls.
And to his younger self, or someone else in a similar situation he would give the advice that you should be open about your problems. He also encourages to try and find some peer support, as he himself was left without it for the most part. Though the bit he did get was a big relieving factor..
– When a person suffers from an illness, the most important thing really is that you are mentally in a good condition. If you are feeling down, the healing process will be really hard, he points out.
At the moment he dreams about that he and the people closest to him would stay as healthy as possible. He wishes that he would get to do things he enjoys in his life and to spend time with the people that are important to him.
To the readers of Finnilco he sends the following message:
– Go forward with humility, but don’t be too meek either. Love yourself, your body and mind. Be well, and if problems arise, react to them right away. Enjoy life and do things that make you happy.

Woman avoids prison after having sex with son’s underage friend
This was posted on the 2nd of this month. And when it says name suppression, if you don’t know what that is, it means that her name or any details that could identify her aren’t being put out there for all to see. This also took place in New Zealand
A woman who had sex with her son’s underage friend on several occasions has avoided prison and being registered as a sex offender.
The woman, in her 30s, appeared in court yesterday charged with doing an indecent act and five counts of sexual connection with a young person.
She was granted permanent name suppression, despite opposition from the victim, because her son had struggled with a range of mental health problems after learning about the relationship between his mother and his friend.
“Schooling has been very difficult for him, with the stigma and rumour of what’s been going on,” the woman’s lawyer, Lucie Scott, told the court.
The court heard how the woman’s son was no longer in his mother’s care but was slowly rebuilding a positive relationship with her.
According to the summary of facts, the offending took place over several months.
The Crown says on one occasion the woman approached the boy, who was under 16, and after touching him, performed oral sex. She then told him to get in her car, which was parked nearby, and had sex with him.
She performed oral sex on him at her home on several other occasions.
On one occasion at a party she gave him a drink of juice after. The boy says he doesn’t remember anything after that and awoke on her bedroom floor the next morning.
The woman had pleaded not guilty and was to appear before a jury last year, but changed her plea after being given a sentence indication.
Yesterday, she was sentenced to three months’ community detention and a year of intensive supervision.
Judge Bruce Northwood also declined to add her name to the sex offender’s register. If a person is sentenced to a form of community detention - rather than prison - for sexual offending, it is up to the judge to decide whether they’re added to the register.
“It seems you have some insight as to what’s gone wrong here,” Judge Northwood said.
“It seems to me that when I assess the risk of reoffending it is low, intensive supervision will be fine.”
Judge Northwood said he granted the woman permanent name suppression in order to protect her son.

The age of consent for New Zealand is 16. The article states that the boy was under 16 when this happened. Why is she not receiving a harsher punishment? Why is she not being registered as a sex offender? She’s not even facing consequences, really. Not in comparison to what she should be facing.
They can’t even call it rape in New Zealand because the rape law is restricted to cases of men raping women

Mawls / Lore / Frisky but Rambunctious
Due to Mawls’ eyes and oral cavities taking up so much volume in their heads, less space is left for their brains, which makes Mawls… even if it sounds rude – the least intelligent of any tribes. On the other hand high-grade Engifted Mawls are usually more powerful because of low world insight, but for the same reason low-grade Engifted are weak. Too, their lower intelligence makes them least susceptible to Envy and Serpent’s influence, as it is steered into positive side of emotions. It is a rare sight to see a Mawl depressed or angry, few turn Envious, and no known cases of an Abomination. Some people compare Mawl’s mindset to of a smarter puppy: hyperactive – they act before thinking, always restless and never let other to rest, always short on thoughts and pareidolic.
Even so Mawls have just one eyeball, they actually have four optic nerves – one for each end of their X-shaped pupil, and each end can be close independently. Nostrils are located in very corners of an eye, neighboring lacrimal sacs.
Mawls’ bodies are remarkable. They are tolerant to harsh weather – can easily regulate temperature and adapt to sharp pressure changes; they can stay physically restless throughout whole day barely tired or out of breath, nor hungry, nor sweating, while narrowly burn through nutrients by recycling used energy and byproducts of inner chemicals reactions; with circadian rhythm lasting for around three days and an exceptionally long lifespan – all these attributed to unique compounds and hormones in their thick bodily fluids, which are toxic and highly hallucinogenic to sistren tribes, but also helpful in medicine (Mawl’s blood for example is often used to complete all-tribe anesthesia, painkillers and antibiotics). In total of four elastic heart-like organs located in each breast and upper thigh to help with fluid circulation and recycling, hence Mawl bodies often look voluptuous.
In general Mawls are the most genial and social of all tribes, but others try to reduce any interactions with them to a minimum, and some actually feel contempt towards Mawls for all troubles and annoyances they usually cause, majority of which are related to chemistry – even Mawls’ diet may include products which are very dangerous to other species, or environment itself, so certain prohibitions exist to prevent possible pollutions (they still can eat common food with no problem after all). Mawl biology is badly compatible with any other, but any health complication while communicating with one can be easily avoided with simple common precaution: it is not recommended to allow them directly contact with your body for too long (especially bright tips of their tendrils), as outer layer of their skin is infused with slow-acting venoms, thus wash your hands or take a shower the same day; don’t communicate and breathe the same air for too long either; nor drink or eat from the same source, and bring your own water if you visit Mawl dedicated districts just in case. Supoosing you neglect all warning – don’t worry, at worst you will just get spaced-out or become mentally impaired for a short time… If this happens, but you still can think even a little bit, avoid looking in their eyes, it very likely will produce additional hypnotic effect on your brain.
At least microflora is as active as they are, and seldom fatal – most Mawl viruses and bacteria die in a few minutes outside of home biome (whilst foreign invaders and parasites promptly expire in Mawls’ adverse environment).
However there is a dismal fact – almost half othertribe children from Mawl futhers get chronically diseased with Cyan Rot, and with all medical knowledge we have, still no cure was found or was ever close, only a couple tribes are trully immune; thus many othertribe sistren are avoiding Mawl-intertribe families.
***
From the first moment you find a place in heart of a Mawl her warm feeling towards you are all true and sincere… same a towards everyone else she meet – because Mawl hearts are boundless and open for everyone. Their minds really can’t comprehend any common social and relationship concepts of Meority, not even recognizing personal boundaries: they see all people as member of one great family – as children with thousand parents and parents with thousand children, as never-met sibling-friends with new stories to tell – they want to share love and fun with as many and as much as possible. Because of this social laxity Mawls can’t commit to permanent relationship and quickly forget about them unless you directly involve yourself into their everyday life. Only during mating seasons once every few years Mawls realize something about biological and social difference while it lasts, but then even Mawl families are usually compared to just a short mutual contract for betterment of raising multiple offspring before everyone in a family part their ways, and children of same biological parents will view siblings in each other as much as in other kids.
Nevertheless, very friendly and tactile, expect Mawls to constantly cuddle, nuzzle and snuggle with you if you are even slightly amiable to them no matter what you say (for health safety keep in mind previous paragraphs); be aware though as some of them easily befriend with you – others as easily to indulge in irritating mischievous and rascal behavior towards you, not from detest but because it might seems fun and gaiety for their frivolous naughty mood. Worry not, they are very weak on sexual and reproductive impulses outside of mating seasons unless directly provoked, but they still might be interested in fondling your splendid body for fun. Moreover you need to understand movements of tendrils on their backs as it is a secondary method of emotional expression, which they can barely control.
Mawls also have an unhealthy interest in fur, wool and hair of other species, which Mawls themselves lack – some might be obsessed with it so much they refuse to wear any clothes but those made from animal fiber unless specific uniform is hard imposed on them by religious, professional or military standing, but even then they can throw tantrum.
Social problems with Mawls may run beyond just personal relationship too. Though they are full of energy they are not very productive, sometimes incompetent, nor can concentrate on a task with their short attention span – Mawls are least desirable workforce for other tribes – anything, from administrative to manufacturing; but there still jobs where they are very prominent, like travel and entertainment agencies for their tireless sociability, or dangerous manual labor like deep mining for their adaptability to hazardous environments. Though it is also depends on their personality – they are either can’t get bored doing the same thing everyday for decades, or they get bored in a few days and look for something new to do without warning. In the end they rather prefer to fool around, having fun and work little as possible while celebrating various holidays and festivals they made for every day of the year.
Many believe that solitary Mawl society wouldn’t be as technologically and infrastructurally advanced as it is today, in multitribal world, and the core reason for that would be their mental and physical tolerance to harsh reality of existence and survival, rather than indolence or lesser intelligence – they would just have less reasons to progress in life they already consider delightful.
***
More than half of their tribe regard the Realms of Bosom as a homeland, mainly because of loyalty to Medali royal family (smarter puppy mindset?). As well it is confirmed by historians that their tribe’s name is given to them by sistren tribes because of a “barking” sound they often do when jolly and cheery.
Maybe Mawls are not brightest in mind, but they understood well their ability to “pacify” sistren tribes, which they abused to achieve single selfish goal: “Greater Friendship – as She intended”. Mawls are probably the only tribe who never despised or think ill of exiled tribes in Primal Age. It is always noted in old texts that they felt pity and wanted to make peace with every rejected kin, and reunite them with the rest of joint Meority for this “Greater Friendship”. The best of them were mediators, traveling traders, welcomed bringers of news and peacemakers between various outcast villages and isolator nations – faltering the division during violent times; but worst of them would lead cities and even small nations to ruin by constantly poisoning mind and body of their leaders, if not every citizen, to then control and rebuild unity at least for a time being.
Though, when Aspects were begotten, Mawls were helpful for Herquisition to spread the Word of a New Age and Teachings of Aspects, along with some ideas and worldviews from Mawl’s society being absorbed by early Herquisition creed.

I also haven't done a comprehensive book post but I'd love to hear your thoughts! If anything, it's just made me have 10,000 more questions than I did before which was already A Lot. Also Justice 4 Mischa/Marissa always.
You sent this before we got Mischa Barton dropping major bombshells!! Now so much has changed!!
I said this briefly in earlier comments but my overall take on the book now is that, while it had lots of insights in other areas not related to Mischa Barton, it ultimately demonstrated the limits of the oral history approach. MB’s specific revelations also demonstrate why an oral history was probably not the best way to really get “behind the scenes” of what happened on this particular show. Like, in my experience oral histories are generally pretty fluffy and they kind of allow everyone to share memories and their recollections without much pushback…which is basically what happened in the book. If you interview as many people as Sepinwall did and absolutely everyone refuses to go on the record about two co-stars dating because they know just how fucked-up it is…that is a story that requires a *totally* different angle than a fluffy oral history, especially one that's such a direct collaboration with the showrunners. I’ve been thinking about the book recently published by Mo Ryan called Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood. That’s the kind of approach you’d need to do her story justice.
At the same time, I do maintain that Sepinwall emphasized that what happened with MB’s exit was not her fault, in spite of his past (sketch) history with the show. He gave a lot of detail about network fuckery, Schwartz’s failures as a show-runner in S3, and he also showed that Brody and McKenzie were actually the ones being assholes on set, not MB, but that no one in charge cared because to Schwartz they were the two most important characters - ie, MB was considered expendable and the men were not.
As for Schwartz…I already thought he came off pretty terribly in the book but now, like, oh my god. I don’t know how anyone but ESPECIALLY women could work with him ever again. I think it's so gross to claim that you're going to be open and honest about everything that happened on your show when you know this HUGE SECRET. Like I *get* why nobody wanted to go on the record about this and of course it's fundamentally Ben McKenzie's or Mischa Barton's news to share, but then don't PRETEND that you're going to fully explain what happened twenty years later when you know it's not the full story. Jesus Christ.
What makes me so mad is that the only reason Schwartz was so comfortable “taking the fall” in the limited way he did for what happened with MB and the show’s decline in quality is because it hasn’t actually cost him anything, and sadly I don’t think MB’s interview is going to change that. Nobody important in Hollywood cares because it was so long ago and it was his first show and one actress’s mental health and career prospects are a small price to pay for letting a man do whatever he wants on a set. So he didn’t risk anything by going on the record about all this.
As for the non-MB parts of the book, of course I enjoyed reading everyone’s perspectives looking back, especially in the first year, and the little random fun stories that were sprinkled throughout. Chris Carmack came off as a pretty decent guy to me, and Adam Brody clearly has done a lot of reflection on that era of his life and how he acted at the time. I love Kelly Rowan and Peter Gallagher so much and I enjoyed their take on things (also intrigued by the comment that they weren't super tight on set?!) And I thought the book was a great overview of just how many factors and voices and interests went into making a single piece of television during the peak years of network tv. Like, so many different execs in charge of different things, all putting competing pressures on the show…it’s easy to see why television was so formulaic in that period. The O.C. in its earliest and best days really didn’t fit the mold for anything on TV, and as the book laid out why that was kind of the show's undoing in a way (in addition to Schwartz f*&king it up).
That was a lot and seems like enough to be getting on with for now, haha. Ultimately what I really want is a two volume exposé on the toxic culture of Hollywood in this early 00's era and how so many young women were chewed up and spat out by the system, with Mischa Barton's story as a prime example. She deserves justice!

Interactive mouthpiece opens new opportunities for health data, assistive technology, and hands-free interactions
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/interactive-mouthpiece-opens-new-opportunities-for-health-data-assistive-technology-and-hands-free-interactions/
Interactive mouthpiece opens new opportunities for health data, assistive technology, and hands-free interactions
When you think about hands-free devices, you might picture Alexa and other voice-activated in-home assistants, Bluetooth earpieces, or asking Siri to make a phone call in your car. You might not imagine using your mouth to communicate with other devices like a computer or a phone remotely.
Thinking outside the box, MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and Aarhus University researchers have now engineered “MouthIO,” a dental brace that can be fabricated with sensors and feedback components to capture in-mouth interactions and data. This interactive wearable could eventually assist dentists and other doctors with collecting health data and help motor-impaired individuals interact with a phone, computer, or fitness tracker using their mouths.
Resembling an electronic retainer, MouthIO is a see-through brace that fits the specifications of your upper or lower set of teeth from a scan. The researchers created a plugin for the modeling software Blender to help users tailor the device to fit a dental scan, where you can then 3D print your design in dental resin. This computer-aided design tool allows users to digitally customize a panel (called PCB housing) on the side to integrate electronic components like batteries, sensors (including detectors for temperature and acceleration, as well as tongue-touch sensors), and actuators (like vibration motors and LEDs for feedback). You can also place small electronics outside of the PCB housing on individual teeth.

MouthIO: Fabricating Customizable Oral User Interfaces with Integrated Sensing and Actuation Video: MIT CSAIL
The active mouth
“The mouth is a really interesting place for an interactive wearable and can open up many opportunities, but has remained largely unexplored due to its complexity,” says senior author Michael Wessely, a former CSAIL postdoc and senior author on a paper about MouthIO who is now an assistant professor at Aarhus University. “This compact, humid environment has elaborate geometries, making it hard to build a wearable interface to place inside. With MouthIO, though, we’ve developed a new kind of device that’s comfortable, safe, and almost invisible to others. Dentists and other doctors are eager about MouthIO for its potential to provide new health insights, tracking things like teeth grinding and potentially bacteria in your saliva.”
The excitement for MouthIO’s potential in health monitoring stems from initial experiments. The team found that their device could track bruxism (the habit of grinding teeth) by embedding an accelerometer within the brace to track jaw movements. When attached to the lower set of teeth, MouthIO detected when users grind and bite, with the data charted to show how often users did each.
Wessely and his colleagues’ customizable brace could one day help users with motor impairments, too. The team connected small touchpads to MouthIO, helping detect when a user’s tongue taps their teeth. These interactions could be sent via Bluetooth to scroll across a webpage, for example, allowing the tongue to act as a “third hand” to open up a new avenue for hands-free interaction.
“MouthIO is a great example how miniature electronics now allow us to integrate sensing into a broad range of everyday interactions,” says study co-author Stefanie Mueller, the TIBCO Career Development Associate Professor in the MIT departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering and leader of the HCI Engineering Group at CSAIL. “I’m especially excited about the potential to help improve accessibility and track potential health issues among users.”
Molding and making MouthIO
To get a 3D model of your teeth, you can first create a physical impression and fill it with plaster. You can then scan your mold with a mobile app like Polycam and upload that to Blender. Using the researchers’ plugin within this program, you can clean up your dental scan to outline a precise brace design. Finally, you 3D print your digital creation in clear dental resin, where the electronic components can then be soldered on. Users can create a standard brace that covers their teeth, or opt for an “open-bite” design within their Blender plugin. The latter fits more like open-finger gloves, exposing the tips of your teeth, which helps users avoid lisping and talk naturally.
This “do it yourself” method costs roughly $15 to produce and takes two hours to be 3D-printed. MouthIO can also be fabricated with a more expensive, professional-level teeth scanner similar to what dentists and orthodontists use, which is faster and less labor-intensive.
Compared to its closed counterpart, which fully covers your teeth, the researchers view the open-bite design as a more comfortable option. The team preferred to use it for beverage monitoring experiments, where they fabricated a brace capable of alerting users when a drink was too hot. This iteration of MouthIO had a temperature sensor and a monitor embedded within the PCB housing that vibrated when a drink exceeded 65 degrees Celsius (or 149 degrees Fahrenheit). This could help individuals with mouth numbness better understand what they’re consuming.
In a user study, participants also preferred the open-bite version of MouthIO. “We found that our device could be suitable for everyday use in the future,” says study lead author and Aarhus University PhD student Yijing Jiang. “Since the tongue can touch the front teeth in our open-bite design, users don’t have a lisp. This made users feel more comfortable wearing the device during extended periods with breaks, similar to how people use retainers.”
The team’s initial findings indicate that MouthIO is a cost-effective, accessible, and customizable interface, and the team is working on a more long-term study to evaluate its viability further. They’re looking to improve its design, including experimenting with more flexible materials, and placing it in other parts of the mouth, like the cheek and the palate. Among these ideas, the researchers have already prototyped two new designs for MouthIO: a single-sided brace for even higher comfort when wearing MouthIO while also being fully invisible to others, and another fully capable of wireless charging and communication.
Jiang, Mueller, and Wessely’s co-authors include PhD student Julia Kleinau, master’s student Till Max Eckroth, and associate professor Eve Hoggan, all of Aarhus University. Their work was supported by a Novo Nordisk Foundation grant and was presented at ACM’s Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology.

Finding Anesthesia-Free Teeth Cleaning for Dogs Near You: A Guide for Pet Owners
When it comes to your dog’s dental health, keeping their teeth clean is crucial for preventing plaque buildup, gum disease, and other oral issues. While traditional dental cleanings typically involve anesthesia, many pet owners are turning to anesthesia-free options for their canine companions. If you’re considering this method and want to find an anesthesia free teeth cleaning for dogs near me, this blog post will guide you through the process, highlighting key factors to consider and how to locate a reputable service provider.
What is Anesthesia-Free Dog Teeth Cleaning?
Anesthesia-free dog teeth cleaning involves a professional cleaning of your dog’s teeth without using general anesthesia. This approach focuses on removing surface plaque and tartar through scaling and polishing while your dog is awake. It’s designed to be a less invasive alternative to traditional dental cleanings, aiming to maintain oral hygiene with fewer risks.
Why Consider Anesthesia-Free Cleaning?
Reduced Risk: By avoiding anesthesia, you eliminate the risks associated with general anesthesia, such as adverse reactions or complications, especially beneficial for older dogs or those with health conditions.
Immediate Recovery: Your dog can return to their normal activities right after the procedure, avoiding the grogginess and disorientation often experienced after anesthesia.
Cost-Effective: Anesthesia-free cleanings are usually less expensive than traditional methods, making dental care more affordable.
Less Stress for Some Dogs: For pets anxious about anesthesia, an anesthesia-free cleaning might be a more comfortable option.
How to Find Anesthesia-Free Teeth Cleaning Services Near You
Start with a Search: Begin by searching online for “anesthesia-free dog teeth cleaning near me” or “anesthesia-free dog dental cleaning [Your City]” to find local providers. Websites like Yelp, Google Reviews, or local pet forums can offer insights and reviews from other pet owners.
Consult Your Veterinarian: Your veterinarian can be a valuable resource for recommending reputable professionals who offer anesthesia-free cleanings. They can also provide guidance on whether this approach is suitable for your dog’s specific dental needs.
Check Local Pet Clinics and Groomers: Some veterinary clinics, pet spas, and grooming salons offer anesthesia-free dental cleaning services. Contact them to inquire about their offerings, procedures, and pricing.
Verify Credentials and Experience: Ensure that the provider you choose is experienced and certified in anesthesia-free dental cleanings. Look for professionals who specialize in canine dental care and have a good track record.
Read Reviews and Testimonials: Look for reviews and testimonials from other pet owners who have used the service. Positive feedback and word-of-mouth recommendations can help you gauge the quality of care.
What to Expect from Anesthesia-Free Teeth Cleaning
Initial Consultation: Many providers offer a preliminary consultation to assess your dog’s dental health and determine if anesthesia-free cleaning is appropriate. This may include an evaluation of your dog’s overall health and dental condition.
The Procedure: During the cleaning, your dog will be gently restrained while the professional uses specialized tools to clean their teeth. The process typically involves scaling to remove plaque and tartar, followed by polishing.
Post-Procedure Care: After the cleaning, you’ll receive advice on maintaining your dog’s dental health at home, including tips on brushing, dental chews, and diet.
Questions to Ask Potential Providers
What is your experience with anesthesia-free dog teeth cleaning? Ensure they have experience and training in performing this specific type of cleaning.
What are the costs involved? Understand the total cost, including any additional fees for services like follow-up appointments or extractions.
What safety measures do you have in place? Inquire about how they handle pet safety and comfort during the procedure.
What is included in the service? Clarify what the cleaning entails and whether it includes a full dental exam or just a basic cleaning.
Preparing Your Dog
Familiarize Your Dog: If possible, help your dog get accustomed to the environment where the cleaning will take place. This can reduce their anxiety and make the process smoother.
Pre-Cleaning Health Check: Have your dog’s health evaluated by your veterinarian to ensure that anesthesia-free cleaning is appropriate and safe.
Conclusion
Finding a reliable provider for anesthesia-free dog teeth cleaning near you can be a great way to maintain your dog’s dental health with fewer risks and a more affordable price. By doing thorough research, consulting with your veterinarian, and considering the factors outlined, you can make an informed decision and ensure your dog receives the best care possible.
