The thought that A crown of Candy starts with Amethar Rocks and his daughters being attacked on the Sucrosi road. The fact that Ruby dies, arrow in her throat, chocking on her blood, on that road, even if she is saved and brought back.

And in the Ravening War we have to witness Pamela Rocks being attacked on a Glucian road. And we have to watch in horror knowing that she will not be saved, that she will die on this road at the hands of these people who did not know what they were sent here to do.

What a cruel thing it is. What a wonderful and painful depth it adds to the story.

It'd be so sweet (and funny) if the Ratgrinders also had similar relationships to one another that the Bad Kids have.

Kipperlily made matching bff bracelets for her and Ivy. Lucy and Oisin would study in the library for hours for research projects. Back when Ruben was playing acoustic guitar, Mary Ann would jam with him on a tambourine. Ivy's nickname for Kipperlily, "The Boss", was once mocking but now loving. After a mini falling out with his fam, Ruben stayed at Kipperlily's house for a bit. Lucy awkwardly tried to invite them to pray with her sometimes, no pressure. Oisin was tormented for months by Ivy's crush on his older brother. All of them huddled over Mary Ann's shoulders as they coached her through texting someone she likes.

Idk. Just... the Ratgrinders being echoes of the Bad Kids, even in more personal ways.
