The first prompt was "Among the Stars," and it inspired me to dream up something truly ethereal.

I illustrated a woman, transformed by the universe—her hands replaced by delicate, feathered wings. Set against the backdrop of a crescent moon and surrounded by a scatter of stars, she embodies the spirit of the boundless sky. The entire piece is brought to life with soft watercolour hues, capturing the gentle essence of a starlit night.

No but I gotta talk about Medusa for a minute actually.

It's been. A very long time since I read the PJO books so I don't exactly remember how Uncle Rick presents Medusa in the book. But the way the show introduces her myth? Fascinating. For me as a Greek mythology enthusiast, that is.

The show makes Medusa a victim of Athena. Of course, the show is mainly for kids, so they can't exactly say that, hey, kids, Medusa was Athena's priestess and she was raped by Poseidon, YEP, or protagonist's father, IN Athena's temple, nah, that's neither kid-friendly nor does it endears us to Poseidon. Not that Poseidon is very dear to us viewers/readers at this point, our narrator/protagonist can't stand his own dad.

But still what fascinates me is that even though they twisted the myth to ft the narrative they still managed to evoke Athena's curse as being actually a gift, and Medusa not feeling wretched over her condition but blessed.

Which is not a modern reading of the myth, actually. Saying that Athena couldn't punish Poseidon for his transgression and could only punish Medusa, but did so in a way that would give Medusa weapons to defend herself against whoever and whatever would try to harm her again, is a narrative that exists since Antiquity.

My point is that the re-framing of Medusa's myth, departing from the traditional, non-kid-friendly version while still incorporating both classic and modern elements, is a good frame of reference for the series (book and show)' entire approach to mythology. And I guess I'm saying that mostly for the non-book readers who are discovering this world, many of whom might be Greek mythology fans and might have gone "wait, why is Hades AGAIN presented as the bad guy when he's the chillest, most normal, most stable god in this entire pantheon", because that's a conversation the book fandom has been having (over and over again) for more than a decade.

Anyway, yeah. As a long time book fan and a show appreciative, here's my advice to anyone who knows WAY too much about Greek myths and still want to enjoy the ride without going every five minutes "wait, that's not correct": reframe. Contemporary rewritings, modern audiences and Fantasy genre.

I personally really love the art for this game, so goofy and cartoony and just so WACKY in so many different ways!! AND IT’S ALL SUPER FUN- This game helped me with my art style AND I got to meet the greatest people on the planet through this game so- YEAH THIS GAME IS AWESOME-

Okay I need you all to think about this:

If he buys a woman who has nothing (because she's a SLAVE on the CRIME PLANET)

And then says "You're free"

and follows that up with "ON THE CRIME PLANET"

What happens next?

What happens if you just turn a woman loose with nothing on the CRIME PLANET?

Yeah. Yeah.

"Well he could get her a ride off-planet" with what, the money he used to free her? To send her where? To his friends off-world? Why is he still living on the CRIME PLANET (that has nothing but SAND, where he FARMS WATER) if he has friends on other planets and the money to travel offworld?

Does Cliegg Lars have a spaceship parked out back?

Can he take her a few lightyears to Naboo? Set her loose on Theed? I mean...the fact that Naboo and Tatooine are in the same sector does raise some questions, but also, again, Naboo is the Peace Planet and Tatooine is the CRIME PLANET.

The point is, he said "Hey, you're free. Hey, come live with me. Move in with me. NOW YOU HAVE EQUAL CLAIM TO MY PROPERTY THANKS TO THIS LEGALLY BINDING DOCUMENT, do whatever you want."

day 2 of being fully unemployed now and I'm starting to feel bad about quitting even though the job I had was awful for my physical health and also stopping any sort of growth for myself or my art. I spent all my time at work I had barely any time to work on projects or build my portfolio. but I just feel like I was put on this earth to be a "lazy" artist.... like not everybody has to be a engineer or a scientist or a accountant. I was not built for the jobs that pay you a liveable wage. I think we need artists and I suppose I'm one of them

ik in canon armsmaster is described as this manly handsome white guy with short brown hair etc etc but for my own peace of mind im picturing him post-leviathan pre-surgery as a disgruntled scruffy guy while he's under house arrest. sorry i get attached to a guy character and immediately have to give them long hair and scruffy facial hair and get rid of all of his canonical muscles and give him a crooked nose and give him scars and five million other little physical traits in my mind or else i explode u understand im sure

Your bat is the Mexican Free-Tailed Bat (Tadarida brasiliensis)!

Oh gosh. This bat, man. One of the most agriculturally important species in the U.S. These guys live in MASSIVE colonies in the southern U.S.; there are 1.5 million living under Congress Ave Bridge in Austin, Texas and another 20 million (YEAH. TWENTY MILLION HOLY CRAP.) living in Bracken Cave, which is considered to be the largest colony of bats of any species living anywhere in the world. BONKERS. Not only do these bats live in huge colonies, but they are also the fastest flying animals, clocking in at just under 100mph (hawks only reach the speeds they do by diving; these bats reach 100mph USING ACTUAL MECHANICAL FLIGHT. DO YOU REALIZE HOW BONKERS THAT IS?????). During birthing season, mothers will leave their massive roosts to go hunt insects. They will fly up to 50km away to hunt. When they return, they are able to find their pups in a crowd of literal millions by the sounds of their voices. Do you know what a huge colony in a cave also means? Guano. Lots of it. And you know what guano means? High levels of ammonia. In a cave. The levels are so high that you physically cannot enter Bracken Cave without a respirator. So how do the bats survive? WELL. They have evolved to be able to change the amounts of CO2 in their blood via respiratory mucous to protect against blood pH changes. AND!!!!!!!!! THEY KNOW HOW TO VENTILATE THEIR CAVES. They fly in a circular motion as they leave and enter the cave to move the air and ventilate out some of the ammonia.
