But with Loumand, Louis' the one tryna pass as a regular human in his layman clothes, while Armand "masquerades" as Gentleman Death.

Both times, Lou has to contend with the power imbalances of two overpowered vampires outclassing him over & over again. But while Lou was hostile & offended by Les; he's scared & meek with Armand.

He's been humbled & broken down so much, and he knows firsthand what older/ancient vampires are capable of--

--esp. since Armand confronted Louis intending to threaten him (b4 he realized how pretty Lou was and changed his mind, LOL).

But I do wonder how Louis sensed his "ancient power" exactly? Other than Claudia he's only been around Les & Daciana; so how could he tell? (I bet Daciana's as old Armand.) This was something that always irked me in the books, cuz TWMBK weren't sensed by Lestat until Marius brought him right up to them. Is it cuz Les was too young, or TWMBK just didn't bother projecting their presence to anyone?

Cuz we know Armand was always sending out signals with his Mind Gift (but he's a pro at it, ofc).

Sometimes it seems humans can sense the undead better than the undead can; they can just tell something's OFF.

Watched the old Mayuri vs Uryu episodes cuz it's been years since I've seen them and uh. I've been kinda harsh on the new animation - I don't like the heavy use of cgi and find myself wishing there was just more *budget* put into it. But jfc it is SO much better than the old. Mayuri looks absolutely hilarious in some of the scenes, like I wish I'd taken some screenshots but I forgor. I will describe them though bc I just can't get over some of the shit I saw

Some of them his face is just... way too wide? Like they drew Eyes Nose and Mouth then went about hurriedly putting the mask around it, forgetting it's supposed to be in the shape of a human face in the process. Other frames he's laughing or screaming and they have his mouth open so wide, it looks like the top of his head is gonna fucking fall off. Idk it was a riot. This isn't a dig on the animation team btw - they did what they could with their budget, and some of the scenes look pretty good! But it definitely puts into perspective the improvements in TYBW

Do I still wish it was better? Ofc i do. I wish it was Chainsaw Man levels of funding! But it's a lot better than what we had before, so maybe I should stop inwardly whining every time I watch an episode:/

Literally, ever since I could remember, I was dissatisfied at the idea of being a girl. I obviously didn't know that being non-binary was a thing when I was a child, but I just felt myself leaning closer to being a boy while still retaining some feminine qualities. I called myself a tomboy, often played with toys that were considered "masculine" such as legos, pokemon, etc., watched cartoons targeted toward boys, felt happy the few times I wore one of my brother's shirts to school and wished I could always wear those clothes, played with the other boys in my class and didn't much care to play with the girls (even during games that were boys vs. girls, I would be on the boy's side), and on multiple occasions, I even remember saying that I WISHED I were a boy, AM a boy, and even voiced my disappointment over being excluded from male only activities because I didn't ask to be a girl.

Like I said tho, I still did SOME things that were feminine, but it was so obvious that I had lots of male interests and felt I could relate an awful lot to my male peers. I'd gotten into so many arguments with girls who would tell me that I was denying myself my true nature. That there was no way I couldn't like girly things and like things like dinosaurs and Pokemon instead. One girl even told me that I must have hated myself because I hated lots of girly things but was supposedly a girl myself.

As a teenager, I started getting bullied pretty harshly for not being the girl men wanted. And ofc, my male peers stopped wanting to hang out with me, which made me pretty upset. So I stopped embracing my masculine side and started feminizing myself. I was pretty miserable. Every time I looked in the mirror after putting on something super feminine or putting on make-up, I felt so disgusting and ridiculous. Like I was doing something horribly wrong.

Ofc, now I am working on presenting myself in a way I am more comfortable with. But my mother seemed immediately skeptical when I told her. She told me that I always seemed so feminine as a child (HA!) and that I just look and act so feminine, to the point where it's basically unfortunate if I'm truly trans. She does not stop bringing up how "feminine" I am. Growing up, she always seemed to interact with me on the basis that I must be pure girl energy. All my the characteristics and flaws she perceived of me were 100% based on female stereotypes (and obviously very sexist ones). She also mentioned at one point that it's "obvious" if someone is "meant to be" trans because they won't appear as their biological sex supposedly. Alright, then.

So as you can imagine, I find my mother's reaction to my true identity pretty upsetting. She might as well have just told me that she doesn't believe me. I get a strong feeling she doesn't. In fact, I think her feminization of me is why I have denied myself this for so long. Because her logic basically told me that I'll never be anything BUT a woman. Even tho the signs of the contrary have been there from the start.

The narrative that a "real" trans person would have shown "signs" of being trans at a young age really needs to die. How do you even measure that? A lot of kids didn't have the opportunity to experiment outside of assigned gender roles, sometimes because they didn't know it was a possibility, sometimes because they weren't allowed to. Even if a child expressed discomfort in their assigned gender, a parent or other adult may have forced them to suppress it, or may deny that it ever happened at all. A good number of trans people also lean heavily into gender stereotypes and gender norms prior to coming out in attempt to suppress it themselves, even if no one in their life has forced them to do so. Also...people change. Gender can be fluid. Maybe as a kid you felt content with your assigned gender at birth, but grew uncomfortable with it as you grew older. There is no way to measure or prove that someone is trans.

one of the major things you gotta realize about superfly when it comes to his vision of his father is that he...does not actually seem to remember much about him. which makes perfect sense because he was a BABY when baxter unfortunately died. i think the hint of this being the case that sorta clued me into this is the whole 'sludge vs ooze' exchange he has w/ the turtles when he meets em. he referred to the mutagen as 'sludge' while they said 'ooze' & he's like 'ooh, i like that!' meanwhile baxter himself referred to it as ooze. so, how i see it, it's a sign that like yeah superfly might subconsciously remember some things from the short time he spent with his dad but he otherwise doesn't remember.

i think the biggest thing tho is comparing the prologue scene in MM versus superfly's retelling of it later in the film. notably, there are two major differences about it: first off, in superfly's version of events, baxter's a lot warmer towards him, whereas in the prologue he's not nearly as warm ( btw that isn't to say he's cold, because he isn't !! i mean the guy refers to SF affectionately as 'little one,' calls himself his dad, gives him a crib w/ a lil blankie...the guy clearly adored SF in his own way. i'm just pointing out that all of the more cuddlier moments between the two happen specifically in superfly's version of events ).

secondly, SF's flashback shows the explosion that killed baxter but not the fact that SF landed on the canisters that wound up prompting the TCRI guy to shoot at him, thus causing them to explode. like, we see the part where baxter uses his own body to shield him but that's it. & while this could easily be the film speeding things along, i wouldn't be surprised if superfly just like...simply didnt comprehend that he inadvertently caused that. especially because as far as he's concerned, TCRI maliciously murdered baxter ( & this ofc isn't putting the blame on SF he was a frightened baby trying to defend him & his dad fuckngi of COURSE not jfc nor take the blame off of TCRI bc theyre no less responsible for what happened -- but SF seems to think they did it on purpose. meanwhile, it was more just the result of pure recklessness; they wanted both baxter & SF alive ).

so like basically the point im getting at here is that superfly's perspective is prrreeetty skewed both as a result of being too young to remember it accurately and also being traumatized witnessing such a horrible thing when he was an actual baby. it especially seems like he sugarcoats & hypes up his dad's memory as a result when, truthfully, he barely even got to know the guy. & considering that baxter's sorta the catalyst for SF's eventual violence & hatred, it's honestly really interesting to think that he's doing it based off of a perception skewed by trauma. that the catalyst for his actions isn't even based in objective truth.

Ep1 took place in the war theater post WW2, which was a historically bad time for ALL of Europe. No, we weren't able to see Louis & Claudia carouse the marble-paved parks of the wealthy bejewelled Romanian elites like we did in Jackson Square. (They're sleeping in effing battlefields every night so they can eat the half-dead soldiers instead of preying on innocent civilians.) But how would that've made post-war EE and war-torn Romania look any BETTER--and WHY SHOULD IT LOOK BETTER ON A NIHILISTIC SHOW?--just cuz the locations changed? I pointed out how bloodsoaked Jackson Square's HISTORY and SIGNIFICANCE to Black people--and Louis specifically--was, which was also glanced over, to complain that the show is giving favoritism to NOLA/Storyville of all places--Louis' actual effing HOME that we spent ALL SEASON IN, which even HE admitted was a terrible den of sin & misery.

Why the HELL would AMC care about showing Romanian children laughing giggling frolicking in the frikkin fields when there's LITERAL REVENANT VAMPIRES hunting their whole village!?

AMC has been demonstrating since Day 1 very clearly: EVERYONE is complicit, no one is depicted in a good light. I even pointed out how Lestat's entire message agrees that the ONLY good people are good artists/musicians/etc--the rest are only "good" for food! The OP said that pagan religions are being shown as superstitious, but had nothing to say when I brought up how African Voodoo and Christian Catholicism were ALSO depicted as ineffective silly and "cowardly" superstitions. Lestat even calls priests "charlatans" and pedophiles!

TBH this is all starting to smack seriously of misdirection and anti-wokeness; as focus is constantly being shifted away from Louis & Claudia as Black characters to complain about whiteness not being shown enough, or shown good enough, as shows pandering to Black people are being mean & harmful to white folks who should be totally above censure or candid social commentary.

Some of this fandom is fucking insane. They're not *even* accepting that AMC was xenophobic in their portrayal of Eastern Europeans (I'm one), specifically romanians. There was someone who was trying to pinpoint Daciana and Romulus' origins (they didn't seem bad intentioned, but at the same time they weren't listening to a fellow EE telling them the how and the why of the xenophobia in episode 1), as if the creators really thought for more than 5 seconds on them, lmao. The only easter egg here is that Rome invaded Dacia and that's how (eventually) Romania came to be. No thought given to any costumes here, lmao.

And don't get me started on how they treat Armand, I will combust myself! Besides using degrading words on a fictional SA victim (we don't know if the showrunners changed his backstory in this regard, so you'd think bool fans would know better!!), they make him out to be this evil mastermind behind everyone's suffering. the book fans on the white fandom side have always had it out for armand. they forgive lestat all day and say we'll get "the truth" soon, but everything armand does is evil from the start and nobody should like him because he's bad and it's a "real" bad. it's v annoying and obviously racist. ur allowed to luv the white man and forgive everything for him but the brown man is the "true" evil and u can't like him ever or ur a dummy person who hasn't read the books and doesn't know anything 🙄
