Look, shipping-wise I don't care if something is canon or not. We write fanfic for everything and I think every ship (canon or not) is free to be shipped and to be enjoyed.
BUT
I want to make a statement with my vote here! I'm sooooooo over being queerbaited by shows. I haven't watched Supergirl but I'm a big fan of Katie because I've watched Merlin. I'm also a destiel shipper and used to queerbaiting by CW so I feel your guys pain of being dragged along, getting some breadcrumbs now and then with the hope for one day being canon.
So my vote is going to the two cute gay bunnies here for being a CANON Gay love story that has to hide (at least in the series not the books) because of actual lgbt censorship in the origin country.
go wangxian!

Disney: you can make your movie R-rated but their relationship can’t be explicitly gay
Ryan: oh don’t worry this is a totally platonic road trip buddy comedy
The movie: The poster says, “best friends come together”, there’s a meet cute ugly at a bar and Logan immediately assumes Wade is there to hook up with him (so does the bartender), Wade calls him honey badger, and angel baby, their road trip song is a rock ballad about being lonely and wanting to meet someone, the second act has the classic romcom miscommunication/fight, they’re having a heated fight to one of the most iconic love song duets ever, Wade says, “the Honda Odyssey fucks hard too bad you don’t” and Logan says, “oh we’re just getting started”, after that there’s a shot where car they're in is rocking back and forth for hours and then it cuts to them asleep the next morning, there’s a line about Wade having Logan’s dick in his mouth (spoken by Ryan’s daughter), there’s a scene where they’re looking at each other longingly through a window because they think Wade is about to die (even though Logan hated him yesterday), Wade is very clearly staring at Logan’s abs after his shirt explodes then makes him put on a shirt after he sees other people also looking, they save each others lives by holding hands to a Madonna song about blowjobs, Logan starts walking away until Wade calls after him and he stops like he’s about to turn around and run back and kiss him but the camera cuts off before he does, Wade introduces Logan to Al like a nervous teenager introducing his girlfriend to his mom, and the last shot is their masks sitting next to each other in their ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT
Disney: ok we have notes
Ryan: no.
The movie: *makes $1,000,000,000*

"If anything had been different, I might not have had my life with Barley. I have been happier than I could ever have imagined a cat could be."
why bother with endless border conflicts and the risk of starving when you can have a peaceful life with a roof over your head?

It was queerbait, actually (A repository)
(It's almost three am but I am fuming, I've been collecting these for a while, my evidence, I WILL write a detailed post about this in a few days but I wanted to leave this here in case anyone else wanted to see how fucking deep this goes)
HYPOTESIS: Nandermo is textbook queerbaiting, not in spite the characters being queer but BECAUSE of it. The ship was used deliberately by the writers, the actors and the marketing in order to bring lgbt viewership to the show with NO intention on ever delivering on their promise.
Also the show presented itself as queer, marketed itself as queer and went to win GLAAD awards two years in a row then proceded to have no m/m or f/f couples for SIX seasons. Their queer rep were just jokes.
WHAT'S QUEERBAITING:
(I hate that I have to use wikipedia and dictionary.com but the actual articles about it are behind paywalls and I am poor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay on to WWDITS
Let's talk marketing:
These are from season 3, 4, 5 and 6
Tumblr media
Season five:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The show is over, it had six seasons, where were my m/m or f/f couples? Because I sure as hell didn't see one apart from the one episode with Freddie, that's it, that's all we got. Apart from that it was just jokes.
---
But that's not about nandermo, you say, it's just about queerness, then what about this: FUCKING HEAVY HANDED NANDERMO MARKETING FOR YEARS:
Tumblr media
OR THIS:

How about what the show's socials were posting, this is from season 3 or 4

Now let's see what the writers were saying (this is before season 5):

The infamous that's his boss moment came from this:

But before that we had:

It’s awesome! I love supernatural, but one of its flaws was the bizarre way they dealt with Destiel, including actors telling fans to stfu about it.
the OMFD KISS™️©️®️ felt like such a triumph. 🥰
I saw two humans in love, not two men. It transcended that.
no more BS. They’re in love. Period. NORMAL!
David Jenkins really gets us!
Bravo to Taika and Rhys who performed and developed the characters with such skill.
i saw this tweet ( @forpiratereasons ):
Tumblr media
i immediately started sobbing. i truly can’t put into words how special Our Flag Means Death is to me. but, i’m going to attempt it anyway.
i was trying to figure my sexuality during the height of my fandom days. being mocked by the cast and creators of shows that were actively queerbaiting us, only to have them try to make us sound stupid when we called them out on it. it really did not help. it fucking sucked.
i had to spoil OFMD for myself about half way through, because i couldn’t handle a show doing that to me again, and in 2022.
instead, i found a show that not only follows through, but whose show runners, cast, and crew celebrates the queerness surrounding it. embraces the fandom. loves the show as much as we do.
that is so fucking special to me.

Misha Collins is the funniest straight man ever. He’s the only person to arguably queerbait in real life. He had to come out as a straight. He was told by WB to just stay bisexual. He’s living every homophobe’s nightmare scenario but the only difference is that everyone actually loves it for him

it’s definitely healing.
I also feel seen as a fan,
my fellow fans have been drawing beautiful Stede mermaids since the beginning. Normally show runners would look at that and pffft at the fan fantasy. Not David and all. They look at it and go “let’s give our fans what they want “.
That scene represents so much love and care, regard for lgbtqai as well as love for fans.
remarkable!
No wait it's hitting me all over again. A team of television creators not only didn't chop an important queer love scene up to no homo it as much as possible. They did the opposite. They wrote a beautiful scene about queer love being restorative ON PURPOSE. They planned and carried out a technically and physically demanding scene underwater to make it as romantic and fantastical as possible ON PURPOSE. They crafted symbolic costumes to withstand those conditions and fretted over whether each necessary element would work. They lovingly chose music and fought to defend the choice of music to further bolster the emotional impact of the scene. They made something beautiful and poignant and lovingly, loudly queer ON PURPOSE. SO INTENTIONALLY. And proudly said HERE IT IS LOOK WHAT WE MADE FOR YOU.

I’m gonna say something controversial….a TV show having a bi character in a love triangle with characters of the same and opposite sex and having them up primarily interested in the opposite sex character is NOT queerbaiting. they are still bisexual.

I think queer stories would be better if people stopped assuming that queer representation hinges on if two characters are romantically involved at all. Like the moment you accept characters as being queer without needing romance to prove said queerness then i think we'd find ourselves with a lot more unique, nuanced, and interesting queer stories. but by limiting queerness to only romance you are stifling queer stories.

star trek as a concept is completely sexless. it is utterly devoid of sex. not one drop of convincing sexual tension has ever graced the screen on any star trek show. the weird unintentionally homoerotic psychosexual mind game shit on the other hand,
