hey, could people please sign this petition about stopping boot camps from being started up here in aotearoa? with the new abuse in care report it becomes even more obvious how awful they are and yet the government is going ahead with them.
the boot camps torture rather than rehabilitate the children forced to be involved. they should not exist.

The Tannery, Christchurch
This place was so pretty and I loved the vibe! Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Christchurch.
What's the prettiest place that y'all have been to?

I have a question for Deaf folk around the world (or anyone who uses sign language really, of any variety):
When you discuss fandom in SL (eg: A book, or a movie, or a game), do you spell the name of the media in it's full? Or do you abbreviate it the way we do online (Eg: tloz for legend of zelda, istv for into the spiderverse, pjo for percy jackson and the olympians)? Or do you come up with sign names for them?
Do you spell it out full the first time (maybe using corrisponding full signs where appropriate eg the 'in' movement for into, or 'legend' in legend of zelda) then point back to that space to refer to it again? Come up with an arbitary nickname for it for every conversation/depending on the person?
How do you navigate fandom and character names in sign?

Otago University Capping Book Poster (1946)
"Graduation, also known as capping, was for many years the 'major student festival' at the University of Otago. The first ceremony took place in 1879. From 1894-1898 ceremonies were banned by university authorities because they disapproved of students using them to voice their grievances publicly. Otago students still celebrated with separate social events that were organised by the Otago University Students' Association, and continued to do so when the formal public ceremony was reinstated in 1899. These events included a capping show (earlier known as a 'capping carnival') and from 1899 extended to a capping ball and procession with floats through Dunedin streets. From 1926-1997 students also produced an annual capping magazine. The proceeds from these activities were contributed to local charities. The capping show continues to be held annually, but the last procession was held in 2000 and the ball ceased in the 1980s."
From Alison Clarke 'Otago 150 Years of New Zealand's First University', Dunedin, Otago University Press, 2018, pages 66-71

New Zealand 2022: Lupin Country
Was actually out looking for lavenders, but the lupin flowers were just so vast and beautiful and unlike anything I've ever seen. There is some debate on the impact of lupins in New Zealand though, since they are an invasive population.
We travelled from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo (absolutely stunning lake) and did a short little trek at Mount Cook. Wish we had more days to do a few more treks, but unfortunately our schedule was quite packed this trip. Definitely a region I'll visit again ❦

Because it is trending, and something i think about often,
Did you know native people of oceania and latin america are related?
As in, share DNA?
Did you know the first inhabitants of south america were polynesian explorers?
It never fails to blow my mind
