EuroTrip | Part 42 | Record-Breaking Title Race
#FM24 #EuroTrip Part 42: Record-Breaking Title Race. Trebor Mahtal keeps the good times rolling in Belarus as he leads @FCBATE to a record-breaking 20th domestic title. And, now aged 77, he considers retiring from football. Read here:
An unbelievable run of form saw BATE Borisov storm from close to the relegation zone to nicking a record-equalling 19th Belarussian title under the tutelage of legendary manager Trebor Mahtal. The Zambian’s latest success saw him lift the 25th domestic title of his 37-year career, leaving him unsure over whether to stick with BATE or look for new options elsewhere. But he was enjoying life in…

A Son Promised to Abraham and Sarah
1 Later, the Lord again appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre. At that time Abraham was sitting at the door of his tent. It was during the hottest part of the day. 2 He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When Abraham saw them, he ran from his tent to meet them. He bowed facedown on the ground before them. 3 Abraham said, “Sir, if you think well of me, please stay awhile with me, your servant. 4 I will bring some water so all of you can wash your feet. You may rest under the tree. 5 I will get some bread for you, so you can regain your strength. Then you may continue your journey.”
The three men said, “That is fine. Do as you said.”
6 Abraham hurried to the tent where Sarah was. He said to her, “Hurry, prepare 20 quarts of fine flour. Make it into loaves of bread.” 7 Then Abraham ran to his cattle. He took one of his best calves and gave it to a servant. The servant hurried to kill the calf and to prepare it for food. 8 Abraham gave the three men the calf that had been cooked. He also gave them milk curds and milk. While the three men ate, he stood under the tree near them.
9 The men asked Abraham, “Where is your wife Sarah?”
“There, in the tent,” said Abraham.
10 Then the Lord said, “I will certainly return to you about this time a year from now. At that time your wife Sarah will have a son.”
Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent which was behind him. 11 Abraham and Sarah were very old. Sarah was past the age when women normally have children. 12 So she laughed to herself, “My husband and I are too old to have a baby.”
13 Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘I am too old to have a baby’? 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? No! I will return to you at the right time a year from now. And Sarah will have a son.”
15 Sarah was afraid. So she lied and said, “I didn’t laugh.”
But the Lord said, “No. You did laugh.” — Genesis 18:1-15 | International Children’s Bible (ICB) The Holy Bible, International Children’s Bible® Copyright© 1986, 1988, 1999, 2015 by Thomas Nelson. I haven't read enough comics to speak to the validity of this post, but I find it funny. Also, does The Spectre even pay taxes? With Jim Corrigan being dead (although i don't think he told anyone he was dead), does he even still pay them? Same with Doctor Fate. The man lives in a tower without windows or a door. I pity the IRS agent in charge of his case..
And you know, I could almost see The Spectre being a homophobic jerk. I mean... he's the avatar of vengeance for the old testament god. The old testament god flooded the earth because people weren't sufficiently faithful, he broke the tower of babel because he was petty and mad at humanity, he kicked adam and eve out of his garden because they dared pursue knowledge. The man was a jerk, even by religion standpoints. So any agent of the abrahamic old testament god might be pretty nasty themselves.
I am so sorry

So I'm confused about the Spectre.
Because on one hand I always see these rumor and urban legends about people being found dead in various unusual but karmic conditions and people saying that the Spectre is responsible and that he's the literal Wrath of God.
But then I see old pictures where he sits with the JSA and he just looks like a guy.
So what is it and how do Christians react to him?
That first question is WAY easier to answer than the second but I will do my best, as ever. Like you said the Spectre seems to have altered in character over the course of the heroic age. But in reality that's just a trick of our perspective. In reality the Golden Age just happened to coincide with a lull in the Spectre's most violent tenancies due to an accident of fate, as many superhero stories do.
Tumblr media
(An image of the Spectre from a wartime propaganda comic) It is truly not possible for me to exaggerate how old an entity the Spectre is. Descriptions of a hooded figure meting out the vengeance of the divine stretch back to the Bronze Age Middle East in what is now Israel where it was recognized as a spirit under the name Aztar. While descriptions of the Spectre are not EXCLUSIVE to Abrahamic religions they are much more common within those societies where the "character" appeared in reams of violent fables, enacting the vengeance of the lord upon sinner with bloody and ironic results. These reports peter out after the Renaissance and especially after the Industrial Revolution the same way all magical sightings faded during that period as the scientific revolution and enlightenment principles forced these ideas from humanity's collective psyches. That was until a deathly cold February night in New York, 1940. When hard edged police detective Jim Corrigan was dunked in a barrel of cement and thrown into the Hudson. His spirit calling out for vengeance so strongly that is snagged the Spectre's essence from the there and bonded with it. Perhaps inspired by the mystery men who had already appeared, Corrigan used the Spectre's abilities publically to hound the criminals responsible for his own death. Without any other avenues and now kept from his eternal reward by his anchoring to the spirit Corrigan dedicated himself to fighting crime. It was in this guise that he was a founding member of the Justice Society and All Star Squadron, serving as one of the strongest magical presences on both teams. Those who knew him at this time described him as cold and slightly unnerving but with a recognizable human persona underneath, Jim Corrigan was the one in the driver's seat and he was the one who sought and maintained membership in the JSA, similar to the way it was Kent Nelson who was invested in the JSA, not the spirit within the Helm of Fate. This all changed when the JSA was forced into hiding and Corrigan lost that circle of human connection
Tumblr media
(A painting of the modern Spectre, done by Metropolis pastor Norman McKay) Over time, without that human connection and operating outside the direct public eye Corrigan exerted less direct control over the Spectre and began to operate much as he always had, delivering tragic punishment to those who escape the justice of all but the almighty. Most occult reports have ever suggested in the modern day that Corrigan himself has been freed of the Spectre's hold and been passed on to whatever afterlife he merited. Your second question is...mostly unanswerable, kind of by definition? How people see the Spectre in relation to their own spiritual views is a question that has as many answers as it has people to ask the question TO. Some Christians take him at face value as a facet of their vision of God. Some Christians deny his "divinity" but uphold him as a hero or at leave a benevolent presence. Some branches rebuke him as a false creature, his existence seen as blasphemy in itself. I'm a historian, not a theologist and the answers for any other religion are equally fractal and complicated.

Sunday Afternoon Session
Conducting: Quentin L Cook
Come Rejoice
D Todd Christofferson
A limiting trait is not being valiant in your testimony
Wholehearted devotion is what we should strive for
To make it to and stay in the Celestial Kingdom we must have a firm testimony of Jesus Christ and act on that testimony
Being Valiant in your testimony of Christ
Includes nurturing and strengthening that testimony
Heading His messengers
Encouraging others by word and example
We will not let anything keep us from being together forever
Do the things Jesus shall teach and command you
Taylor G Godoy
God hears our prayers and answers them in a personalized way
Mosiah 5:12
This life by its nature brings about experiences
Call Him, don’t fall
Just because you aren’t answered immediately doesn’t mean your call wasn’t answered at all
Confidence in the Lord’s answers requires accepting that they are not always what would expect in our minds for them to be.
The Lord is the first option for help
Call Don’t Fall (pray)
After prayer do all you can to obtain the answers you pray for
Humbly accept His answers
Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling
Gary E Stevenson
Where is the foundation of your bridge?
The two towers are love the Lord thy God and love your neighbor as thyself – these are the towers that the bridge of the gospel is supported by
Loving the Lord leads to eternal Happiness
Bridges our heavenly upward gaze to our heavenly outward gaze
Love of the Lord is not complete if we do not love our neighbors
Loving your neighbors includes Christlike deeps of love and service
How are you building your tower of love?
“did God call on you specifically, or were you simply the one who listened?”
These towers need to function together in balance, equal devotion, and harmony
God loves everyone and so should we; we seek out those in need and serve them regardless of race, wealth, gender identity, sexual orientation, or anything else
God commanded us to love one another. Leave judgement up to Him
How do we build our own bridge of faith and devotion?
Early drafts become polished blueprints
Mathias Held
Consequences are a part of agency
Repentance is where growth happens
Seek to learn and accept support from the Lord
In the darkness of night we can turn on our lights
We can still choose how to respond to things out of our control
We are agents not objects.
Opposites don’t exist apart from each other, they can complement each other.
Where there is sunshine, shadows must be there too. Floods brings destruction but they bring life as well
Our difficulties do not define us – it is our attitudes and choices that define us much better than our situations
How Firm a Foundation
Niel L Anderson
It is breathtaking to see the works of God
Discipline your faith, what does that mean to you?
Eleazer Cearcy – sealing story – this is why listen to promptings
Angels have charge over us
Through the power of the Holy Ghost we are filled with strength and peace and joy and unspeakable hope.
Many different ways to see the face of Christ and no better place than in His holy house
Mark L Pace
Transform our homes into sanctuaries of faith
The scriptures are here to help us draw closer to Him
How can you avoid personal apostasy?
We are responsible for our own personal spiritual growth
The most important copy of the book of Mormon is the one you read
Heavenly Father wants you to know yourself – but you must put in the effort
Russell M Nelson
Called to apostles 40 years ago!
Six temples when he was born
Ponder what the Lord’s promise means for you personally
The priesthood was restored prior to the church – to ensure that the church could be organized with the correct authority
The priesthood keys are the only way we get the essential ordinances and covenants, the only way we can have blessings the way we do – we can extend all the blessings promised to/by Abraham to all God’s children
D&C 110
The gathering of Israel is evidence God loves all of His children everywhere
The gospel of Abraham is further evidence that God loves all of His children everywhere
The sealing power is supreme evidence that God loves all of His children everywhere and wants them to return to Him
Study Kirtland temple dedicatory prayer in D&C 109
Regular temple worship will enhance how you see yourself
The temple empowers us to take on the challenges of life
You do not have to face life alone
What courage does it give you to know that angels really will help you?
No combination of wickedness will prevail over those who worship in the house of the Lord
Nothing will help you more to hold fast to the iron rod than attending the temple as regularly as you can, nothing will protect you more, nothing will bolster your testimony of Christ and His atonement, or recognize the significance of His plan, nothing will soothe your spirit more, nothing will open the blessings of Heavens more
15 temples:
Uturoa, French Polynesia
Chihuahua, Mexico
Florianopolis, Brazil
Rosario, Argentina
Edinburgh, Scotland
Brisbane, Australia South Area
Victoria, British Colombia
Yuma, Arizona
Houston, Texas South Area

Although the battle lines have shifted down through the years from heliocentrism to evolution (and let’s not get started on the age of the Earth), it feels like there’s a fundamental conflict between science and religion, especially with respect to the Abrahamic religions like Christianity and Islam. I (Christina), the host of this podcast episode, as a scientist and atheist who tends to assume all scientists are atheists—because how could they not be?—am definitely guilty of thinking this.
Yet, there is a long tradition of curiosity, inquiry, and, yes, science within the Abrahamic religions and no shortage of devout scientists working hard to this day to understand the workings of the world and cosmos. I decided that it was time to confront my assumptions by talking to one of my religious colleagues. Thank you in advance to Dr Norm Nelson—an oceanographer whose Christianity is a core part of his life—for discussing whether or not there is a conflict between science and Christianity, and where the roots of that conflict might lie.

God Promises Deliverance
1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to the king of Egypt. I will use my great power against him, and he will let my people go. Because of my power, he will force them out of his country.”
2 Then God said to Moses, “I am the Lord. 3 I appeared to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob by the name, God All-Powerful. But they did not know me by my name, the Lord. 4 I also made my agreement with them to give them the land of Canaan. They lived in that land, but it was not their own land. 5 Now I have heard the cries of the Israelites. The Egyptians are treating them as slaves. And I remember my agreement. 6 So tell the people of Israel that I say to them, ‘I am the Lord. I will save you from the hard work the Egyptians force you to do. I will make you free. You will not be slaves to the Egyptians. I will free you by my great power. And I will punish the Egyptians terribly. 7 I will make you my own people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am the Lord your God. I am the One who saves you from the hard work the Egyptians force you to do. 8 I will lead you to the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I will give you that land to own. I am the Lord.’”
9 So Moses told this to the people of Israel. But they would not listen to him. They were discouraged, and their slavery was hard.
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Go tell the king of Egypt that he must let the Israelites leave his land.”
12 But Moses answered, “The Israelites will not listen to me. So surely the king will not listen to me, either. I am not a good speaker.”
13 But the Lord told Moses and Aaron to talk to the king. He commanded them to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
Families of Israel
14 These are the leaders of the families of Israel:
Israel’s first son, Reuben, had four sons. They were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These are the family groups of Reuben.
15 Simeon’s sons were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul. Shaul was the son of a Canaanite woman. These are the family groups of Simeon.
16 Levi lived 137 years. These are the names of his sons according to their family history: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
17 Gershon had two sons, Libni and Shimei, with their families.
18 Kohath lived 133 years. The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.
19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.
These are the family groups of Levi, according to their family history.
20 Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed. Jochebed gave birth to Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years.
21 Izhar’s sons were Korah, Nepheg and Zicri.
22 Uzziel’s sons were Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri.
23 Aaron married Elisheba. She was the daughter of Amminadab and the sister of Nahshon. Elisheba gave birth to Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
24 The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These are the family groups of the Korahites.
25 Eleazar son of Aaron married a daughter of Putiel. And she gave birth to Phinehas.
These are the leaders of the family groups of the Levites.
26 This was the Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord spoke. He said, “Lead my people out of Israel in their divisions.” 27 Aaron and Moses are the ones who talked to the king of Egypt. They told him to let the people of Israel leave Egypt.
God Repeats His Call to Moses
28 The Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt. 29 He said, “I am the Lord. Tell the king of Egypt everything I tell you.”
