Atlantic Canada's largest newspaper chain is now officially owned by Toronto-based Postmedia Network Inc.
On Monday, Postmedia confirmed the closing of its $1-million purchase of SaltWire Network Inc. and the Halifax Herald Ltd. in a short statement on its website. The sale was approved by a Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge on Aug. 8.
Andrew MacLeod, Postmedia's president and CEO, said his company is "delighted" to welcome the new media properties, saying the sale "preserves their vital role within the community."

Let's explore why this is a very bad thing.
Postmedia, the company that just bought a chain of over two dozen Atlantic canada newspapers, is known for many things- none of them good.
This is an incomplete list of harmful things that Postmedia and its executives have done/are known for:
Right-wing politics. "The National Post was founded in 1998 by Conrad Black, who has connections to conservative politics and sat as a Conservative Party member of the United Kingdom's House of Lords. The Post has always been aligned with the right side of the political spectrum. ..."Just in the past couple of years, Postmedia has issued an edict stating that they should move even farther to the right, so they're very reliably conservative," said [Media journalist Marc] Edge. "In fact, [they] endorse Conservative candidates often over the objections of their local editors.""
Union busting. "They employed a mix of cajoling (such as with buyouts and raises), entreaties to preserve the paper’s uniquely collegial newsroom culture, office-wide memos decrying the havoc a union would wreak, and, according to CWA Canada President Martin O’Hanlon, one-on-one meetings between staff and management."
Monopolization of canadian news media. "Postmedia Network’s purchase of Saltwire Network will extend its grip from coast to coast, as it already dominates Western Canada with eight of the nine largest dailies in the three westernmost provinces. This purchase will give Postmedia the largest dailies in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland to go along with the largest in New Brunswick, which it acquired from the Irving Oil family two years ago."
Cuts to pensions and benefits while giving large bonuses to executives. "...several top Postmedia executives had received enormous retention bonuses at a time of aggressive belt-tightening (after which many left regardless), and second, the March 2017 announcement that benefits and pensions would be curtailed significantly."
Already beginning to lay off staff from the Atlantic canada newspapers they now own. "...the long-term future of workers in departments like circulation, advertising, customer service, finance and production remains uncertain. "Staff believe maintaining local jobs in the community is critical to retaining both subscribers and clients," the union said. Last week, the union representing workers at The Telegram confirmed that four of the paper's 13 newsroom positions will be eliminated."

Western media apparatus is going full gear on genocidal propaganda. There's an ongoing co-ordinated hasbara effort about this. WaPo, National Post, 'Israeli' account and more. Goebbels would be proud of them

Is it ethical for a journalist to wear a wire to dinner and spy for a foreign intelligence agency at the same time as they’re writing for one of Canada’s biggest newspapers? Most experts on journalism ethics might say that’s clearly “unethical,” but National Post columnist Adam Zivo is adamant he sees “no problem” with presenting himself as a journalist by day while moonlighting for a foreign spy agency by night. Zivo, who was sanctioned by Russia in August 2022, has recently been sharing dramatic and fantastical stories about a “weird espionage experience” he had while he was doing war zone reporting on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for the National Post.

Canada is coming for your podcasts (and YouTube videos)
For cable broadcasters, Canada has traditionally had Canadian content rules.  This meant that they had to have a certain percentage of their programmes be certifiably Canadian.
Annoying, but it works for broadcast.  Well, now the Canadian government wants to force companies to apply these rules to the internet.  One of the ways companies can comply is by suppressing content the government wants.

So, I just got a warning for "harassment" on Reddit, and my comment deleted, apparently because I posted a comment in response to a National Post article blaming economic problems on immigrants, saying Fuck the White Nationalist Post.
I was warned under Rule 1, which reads as follows:
"Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned."
So, according to Reddit, I guess the National Post, a major news company, is a person from a marginalized or vulnerable group? Or that it's "attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people" to call it out for doing... exactly that? Or maybe they think one post mocking its name from a random guy on the internet is "harassment" and "bullying", because clearly the National Post is so very vulnerable.
Note also that the only past time I can recall receiving a similar warning was for criticizing that abusive shit Johnny Depp, so apparently Reddit's (or whatever AI it uses) criteria for vulnerable identities are: Major news corporations, and rich white male celebrity abusers.
So you know what? I'm going to call Reddit white nationalist too.
Reddit: Please feel free to file a complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission about my "hate speech" against you, if you want to get laughed out of the room.

"Sources say newspaper publisher Postmedia Network Corp. is laying off 11 per cent of its editorial staff, less than a week after workers were told the company was grappling with "economic contraction.''
Postmedia, which owns publications including the National Post, Vancouver Sun and Calgary Herald and employs about 650 journalists, announced the layoffs at a town hall Tuesday afternoon.
In an audio recording of the meeting obtained by The Canadian Press, Gerry Nott, acting senior vice-president of editorial content, said the cuts would affect all of the company's publications with the exception of Brunswick News and Postmedia Editorial Services, which have already been downsized."

The Canadian economy is in worse shape than it looks
God, I hate shorts.  But this one is by the National Post, about why Canada is doing a lot worse, economically, than the government is claiming.

Of the 19 hijackers who carried out the Sept 11 attacks:
15 were from Saudi Arabia (a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)
2 were from the United Arab Emirates (also a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)
1 was from Egypt, 1 from Lebanon.
None of the hijackers were from Iraq.
None of the Sept 11 hijackers were Iraqi.
None of the 9/11 hijackers were from Iraq.
