First Meeting

"You guys shoulda seen it!" Impulse proclaimed loudly, tail swinging wildly with excitement. "I mean, Tango was great, but the lead singer—" The demon whistled.

"That good, huh?" Gem asked with a look that promised teasing should Impulse say much more.

He didn't heed the warning. "Yes, that good! I wish you guys had come; it actually blew me away. Like, the drums and piano blended perfectly, and so many of the songs made me want to start dancing right then and there," he gushed, pausing only for a moment to take a sip from his water bottle.

Scott, meanwhile, waved his phone at him, the screen displaying a pink heart that was on fire. "This is the same Heart Foundation you saw, right?"

"You found their insta already!" the demon beamed, reaching to grab it before the blizz snatched the phone away, blizz rods whirling happily.

"A'course I did, I am a professional. We need to do as much research as we can on your new crush before he can have our approval," Scott teased, scrolling through photos and posts.

"It's not a crush," he pouted, though he didn't bother with defending the claim against Gem's snort.

The warden peeked over Scott's shoulder, watching the photos fly past. "You said he's an angel, right?" she asked, glancing back at Impulse. She picked up her cocktail, taking a sip while the demon replied.

"Yeah, an angel. He's got these massive white wings, plus little pink ones on the sides of his head—though, I don't know if that was the lighting or dye or natural. Either way, they matched his suit perfectly, I didn't know it was possible for someone to look so good in hot pink! And- and! He's absolutely jacked, his arms were like the barrel of a cannon—and his hair also had hot pink streaks in it, and-"

"Like this?" Scott cut him off before he could ramble more, showing a photo of the angel, his arm slung around Tango as both of them laughed at the camera. He wasn't wearing the pink suit, just a tank top and sweats, but damn, if he didn't look just as hot, scars and muscles on full display.

Impulse's tail curled happily, a purr rumbling in his chest. "Yes, that's him! What does it say? Is his name on there, any other info about their next performance—though, I could just ask Tango when I see him-"

"You don't even know his name?" Gem interrupted, incredulous.

"I was distracted, okay?" he tried to defend, feeling a blush creeping up his cheeks. "I was taking a video for Tango while he was introducing everyone, and his voice was just so smooth, I couldn't really focus on the actual words. It's not my fault!"

They just giggled at him, Gem's elbow coming up to prod Scott, who looked up from the phone. Surprise flashed across his face, but it quickly turned to a teasing grin to match Gem's.

"You were distracted, hmm? Too busy eyeing up the hot angel to pay any attention?" the blizz asked, eyebrows wiggling suggestively.

"I think so," the warden agreed before Impulse could defend himself. "Enamored with a complete stranger, our little Impy's all grown up~" she teased, eyes narrowing as though daring him to disagree.

He rolled his eyes, taking another long drink from his water; playing earlier had really left him drained, but not quite drained enough to sit out Tango's performance, despite Gem and Scott abandoning him to go get drinks. Impulse sighed happily, the image of the angel silhouetted by the backlighting still fresh in his mind, not to mention the memory of his voice. He'd need to ask the blaze hybrid later how they had met.

"So what if I am?" he argued, hands coming up to rub away the growing flush on his face. "I mean, he's friends with Tango, so he's gotta at least be a chill dude, plus he was so funny during the show, he interacted with the audience perfectly—honestly, Gem, you should be taking notes."

Her mouth fell open in amused shock, while Scott's smirk only deepened. They shared a glance, one that Impulse recognized well enough by now to know that they were categorically not going to drop this any time soon. Not that he cared; he was happy to keep rambling about what an amazing performance the niche band had put on; Impulse could recognize good music when he heard it.

"I don't know, I think you might be a tad biased," the blizz said, the frosty sparkle in his eyes refusing to disappear given Impulse's enthusiasm.

Gem nodded. "Definitely. You just think he's hot, you want to find a quiet spot where you two can kiss and-"

"Gem!" Impulse interrupted, flush deepening at the implications. "I don't even know if he likes guys," he retorted, wilting a little at the thought. Not that it mattered; he didn't know the guy, it's not like he'd somehow end up in a situation where hooking up was even possible.

"I dunno..." Scott drawled, eyes shifting to glance over the demon's shoulder. He grinned again at Impulse's embarrassment. "I feel like he'd be open to that sort of thing."

"And how would you know?" he snapped back, suddenly very self-conscious, as though the two of them were in on a joke that he didn't get. They did love to tease him, and it wasn't often that Impulse got a crush—not that this was a crush!

Gem just snorted while Scott waved the phone. "Instagram," he answered shortly, still smirking.

"But you didn't even answer the question!" the warden accused, taking another drink.

"What question?"

"Would you kiss him if you could?"

"Gem-" he tried to argue, hiding his blush with a hand again.

"Just answer! You never tell us about your love life, it's only fair," she insisted, giving him an intense and expecting look, one that warned against any arguing.

"I don't know him," the demon sputtered. "I guess I would, but I'd want to get to know him first, maybe take him out to dinner..." he trailed off, eyebrows furrowed at the thought. It really wasn't all that unrealistic that Impulse could meet the angel, since Tango could introduce them. But the odds of the guy actually being interested in anything?

"I was going to offer to buy you a drink, but I think it might have to be the other way around," came a deep voice from behind him.

The demon nearly jumped out of his skin.

Right in front of him was the angel, in the flesh, very close up and personal and—fuck, he was even hotter in person, suit torn at the sleeves and unbuttoned at the top, showing off his arms and chest. He was leaning against the bar, a stereotypical smolder painting his features, blue eyes dark as they looked the demon up and down.

Impulse short circuited.

He was stammering something, but he wasn't sure what—a greeting? An apology? How much had the angel heard, did he think Impulse was weird, did he-

"I'm asking if I can buy you a drink," the angel clarified, smirk fading into a more serious expression as he repeated the offer.

"I, uh-" The demon's mouth went dry. "I can't, I have to drive later," he answered weakly, brain still not catching up to the fact that the guy was hitting on him.

"No, you don't," Gem denied cheerily, the smile in her voice clear even though Impulse's back was turned. "We'll get an uber. Go have fun, enjoy yourself~"

He looked back up at the angel, who was now giving him the sweetest, most encouraging smile, and swallowed thickly. He nodded. "Yeah, yeah, I- I'd love a drink," he managed, still unbearably flustered, tail curling in on itself.

The man grinned, the wings on his head puffing up happily—that's adorable—as he offered an arm to the demon.

Impulse took it, letting the angel lead him away to order drinks.

"Just be back by hotel checkout at ten tomorrow!" Scott called after them.

So that's their first meeting! I also want to write Skizz's first impression of Impulse and his pov of this encounter at some point, and potentially even extend the scene a little further when we see him ;)

Just thinking about how on Ao3 I have 361 TK Strand/Carlos Reyes works bookmarked. 361 fandom works on Ao3, uncountable gifs and art and metas and ficlets on tumblr - and 72 episodes of the show. Meaning the way that I have experienced these characters the most is through YOU. The creators in this fandom, who have taken something already special and made it go beyond❤️

Uh, hi!! I would, LOVE to see more of this lol. Even if you don't have time to actually write/draw for it, I will take literally anything. I cherish any drop of content like crumbs from those delicious sounding apology pastries. If you don't mind, I would specifically love a bit more on skizz & impulses first meeting, have they competed in any band wars? Do they have a lot a mutual friends? And they stupider here than tsots or do they have some common sense? Or just the Heart Fondation! Oh also! What about bdubs and etho? They have a lot of ties (ha. Get it? Ties) to those two! Itd be interesting to see if they have a place in this au.

I have LOTS of thoughts on their first meeting--but you don't get to see that yet ;) I have a bunch of art drawn (ft. the most adorable Impulse ever) and all that's left is to write a little blorb of how it went down, which I'll probably do sometime tomorrow :D (I'm very very excited for this lol)

They do have mutual friends, since Skizz tends to know EVERYBODY, but Impulse is a bit of a recluse apart from when Gem and Scott make him get out of the house, so he hasn't met Skizz yet. Skizz happens to have never interacted directly with Gem or Scott either, but they've all heard of each other. As for mutual connections, Impulse does know Tango (who is part of Heart Foundation, obviously), and probably some others, but that's it for important connections I can come up with off the top of my head!

As for stupid levels, these guys are certified idiots, rest assured. However, this one isn't exactly a slow burn! I'd say more, but you'll see soon enough... >:)

Bdubs, I don't have any particular plans for. I'm still brainstorming a lot of the hermits n such. Etho knows everyone, tho (add him to mutual friends list ig), and in particular, the Roomies exist in this AU like they did in secret life, because I love them dearly <3 Other than that, he's a college student, studying tech of some sort, and lives with Cleo and Grian :) (and potentially Bdubs, if I get around to giving him a backstory. Honestly if you have ideas, feel free to share) He occasionally helps out with the sound tech for the Heart Foundation, but it's rare.

And thank you so much! I'm thrilled everyone's liking my silly lil band au thus far, I've kinda hyperfixated on it these past few days lmao. My wrist actually hurts from drawing so much rip, I need to get a proper stand for my tablet so I'm not hunched over the desk like a shrimp. But yeah! I have lots more art and quite a bit of writing I wanna do :D idk how far this'll go, since it's not meant to be serious or anything, but it's a fun experiment

Ever get mad at your hyperfixation existing and not leaving???

That's me currently with The Santa Clause franchise. Like I'd love to not think about it 24/7. Not only that, it's not like I can quench my thirst with fanfictions as most of them are either incomplete (I've still read them). Even then, I've read them all it's not like other fandoms with thousands of fics. There's like 200 something fics on ao3. Even less on FFN. And I'm not desperate enough for the ad filled wattpad (it's coming. I know it is, and I dread it)

And I just know that this hyperfixation isn't going away till the last episode of season 2 happens. That's in over a week. I can't keep thinking of this franchise for a WEEK. My dreams are weird enough as it is, now throwing in the big man in a suit and children with pointy ears?

I'm combing through the movies and TV show with a fine tooth comb. I want this hyperfixation to shift just for a bit to Doctor Who 60th, but noooooo brain wants bows and wrapping paper.

Yes absolutely!! Each of my self inserts have their own lore, some quite extensive even!!

I'll only write for some that I've been focusing on, so I don't take up most of your dash (⁠^⁠～⁠^⁠;⁠)⁠ゞ

Wisp: Don't Starve Together S/I - They are an affection based booster character, so their benefits entirely depend on who the player chooses as their survivor. Each survivor has their own affection percentage, Wilson and Webber being the highest; therefore having more perks. They're effectively immortal but their sanity can affect the player's experience, due to shadow monsters attaching themselves to the survivor

Affection bonuses for them are:

Extra resources after encountering

One random item per day

Fighting beside the survivor during attacks

Random healing item once survivor's health reaches a certain amount

Merms' hostility radius becomes severely decreased, so the survivor would need to be up close to be attacked

Small sanity boost after inspecting them

Some of the perks are entirely unavailable if their affection level is too low. Players can gain/lose affection points based on the following behaviors and interactions:

Inspecting them once a day

Offering them food, regardless of their liked/disliked meals

Giving them something to do (cook, chop wood, fish, etc)

Spending time with them

And the opposite applies, if a player goes too long "ignoring" them they'll remove themselves from the players surroundings, either taking back things they've given the survivors or by eating up half of the survivor's sanity

100 affection, always: Wilson and Webber

90-80: Willow, Wendy, Wormwood, Wurt, Warly

70-60: WX-78, Wes, Wickerbottom

50: Wigfrid, Walter

40-30: Wanda, Wortox, Woodie

20-10: Wolfgang

0: Maxwell

The lower the starting affection points, the harder it is to raise it. So a Maxwell player would need around five days to max out their affection while a Willow player would only need a day at most

They are essentially a player that managed to transfer themselves into the game, but Charlie has "compressed" them, to the best of her ability, to not overstep and interfere with her plans. Because of that, they can't remember anything before arriving at the constant, all they know is that they have the instinct to care for and protect their beloveds and friends

Wisp has abilities that can help the survivors, as previously mentioned, but being alone for too long will cause their overthinking to materialize into shadow monsters, varying from whispers coming from the dark, to giants who can and will destroy the survivors' bases and belongings

To encounter them, each survivor must find themselves at a unique situation that reflects Wisp's relationship with them. Here's a few examples:

Wilson will be guided by a trail of candles, to a clearing in the woods. This event occurs during dusk and once he arrives at the clearing, a portal on the ground will open up, having Wisp pop out of it and having all the candles disappear alongside the otherworldly entrance they've arrived in.

Webber will encounter an oversized spider nest, seemingly way past it's usual "final" size. It will wriggle and thrash while a handful of spiders hiss around it. If it decides to shave the nest, Wisp's face will be revealed. The more he breaks the nest down, the more of Wisp's body will be revealed, until they are entirely free.

Wendy will find a bouquet at a grave in one of the world's cemeteries, once picked up the item will trigger a crying sound that will become louder or quieter depending on the direction she heads in. If Wendy goes towards it, she'll find Wisp crying at a dug up grave.

Wigfrid would find a stage play set up and would need to have her helmet and spear equiped to be able to walk on stage and act. Once her performance was done, clapping would be heard from the other side of the curtain, only when she steps out of stage will she be able to spot Wisp.

Maxwell would need to mine one of his own statues, which would promptly drop an eerie note that reads "The first step for that book to have been read by you was to have someone else write it." This event would cause the game to freeze for a moment, before having one of Maxwell's shadow servants morph into Wisp instead.

Emerie: Arcane S/I - An alien from a planet populated by a species of anthropomorphic salamanders, each "tribe" adapting to their surroundings and having their appearance affected by it; hence why she looks like an axolotl! She arrived on Runeterra inside a meteorite, where she had essentially hibernated herself into after being abandoned by her peers over her taking the blame for her own abuse.

She met Jinx when the blue haired woman broke open the meteorite, interested in the glowing hex crystals that held it together. Both of them were scared and confused when they first saw each other, which caused Jinx to shoot Emerie in the knee, giving her leg permanent damage even after she managed to regenerate herself from the wound.

She met Viktor during an escapade to steal food and valuables from Piltover, mostly because Jinx felt bored and wanted to do something risky. She got into the lab via an open window and showed no sign of hostility towards Viktor, making him curious about her nature and origin.

Jinx taught her how to behave, so she acts a bit out there compared to most of the population, while Viktor taught her how to read, write and speak, as well as sharing some extra knowledge that helps her navigate the world more safely.
