“Shoot first and think later.” That’s how Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor describes the doctrine of qualified immunity. Qualified immunity is a rule that protects government officials (including police officers) from facing the consequences when they violate our constitutional rights. This doctrine allows police officers to escape accountability for their misconduct and signals to the public that cops are above the law. In any other job, individuals who cause harm are held accountable for their actions.

Ryan Adamczeski at The Advocate:
Marjorie Taylor Greene has a lot to say about drag for someone who knows so little about it. The Georgia representative threw a fit online yesterday after several drag queens appeared on Capital Hill to lobby for LGBTQ+ protections. Jiggly Caliente, Joey Jay, and Brigitte Bandit met with lawmakers Tuesday, to lobby for the Equality Act, the legislation that would amend the 1964 Civils Rights act to include gender identity and sexual orientation, encompassing the groups under federal nondiscrimination policies. After Bandit, an artist based in Austin, Texas, went on CNN to promote the group's efforts — dubbed “Drag Lobby Day” by organizing group MoveOn Political Action — Greene took to Twitter/X to decry "men pretending to be women."
"What’s scary is men pretending to be women reading gender cult lying books to our children, provocatively dancing nearly nude in public spaces, and taking over our bathrooms, sports, and private spaces," the conservative wrote. " Women and children need protection from them." The most obvious problem among Greene's fallacious assertions? Bandit, who the politician accused of endangering women, was born female. The drag queen quickly pointed that out to Greene, clapping back by pointing out just how little the Republican knows about the communities she so passionately hates. "Hi Marjorie! I’m Brigitte and I’m the queen in the clip. I’m born female and not a man," Bandit wrote. "You are just proving that gender is socially constructed and have no idea what you’re talking about and why you should have no say in our lives."
Anti-drag extremist Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) got schooled on her ignorance by drag performer Brigitte Bandit.

If your brain hasn’t yet been completely broken by 2023 in Washington, you might have noticed a 15-foot-tall inflatable version of US Representative George Santos in front of the Capitol Tuesday.
Sporting his trademark spectacles, a suit, and a red tie that reads “full of lies,” the balloon doppelgänger jostled about in the wind for a couple hours Tuesday morning while political junkies waited to hear whether the representative from New York’s Third District would resign or be expelled by his peers later this week. Amid the chaos, said MoveOn’s campaign director Kelsey Herbert, the group was on hand “to make a scene.”
(There will be a third vote this week)

I have learned that the most effective way to make me open emails from MoveOn.Org is to tell me Robert Reich, former US Secretary of Labor and the silver-fox father of known silver-fox Samuel Reich of Dropout.TV fame, is the one writing the email.
I'll apparently un-delete said email if I know it's coming from Mr. Reich, a man I have never, will never, and would not try to meet.

New Rule: Identity Crisis | Real Time with Bill Maher
And finally, New Rule: now that we're all recovered from St Patrick's Day, let's make it the last one. You know, I never understood Irish Pride or any pride in anything other than what you've actually accomplished. And as holidays go, St Pattie's is kind of malarkey. You don't get presents like Christmas or candy like Easter or joyless appointment sex like Valentine's Day. You don't even get a Peanuts special.
There's just a parade. And what rights are we marching for? The right to drink in the day? Do we still need to take to the streets in a public expression of support for Irish migrants?
I think now more than ever we need to stop talking about the things that make Americans different from each other and start honoring the things that make us the same. So let my people, the Irish, lead the way because again, the Irish think I don't give a shit.
But, I do give a shit who wins the next election. And outdated racial pandering is one reason Democrats lose elections. When Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi put on Kente cloth, I don't think it earned them one vote for their powerful emotional ties to Ghana.
Here in California, we're now segregating kidnapping. Really. California doesn't just have amber alerts for missing children, we have ebony alerts for black children and feather alerts for Native American Kids. What is that we look for them by listening on the ground?
Look, even if you like identity politics, this kind of thing is antiquated. From 2010 to 2020, the number of people identifying as multi-racial in America went up 276 percent. One in five newlyweds now are in an interracial marriage. And that number goes up to 100% in ads for Subaru.
You couldn't do a remake of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" today because almost 100% of Americans approve of interracial marriage. Especially with rich in-laws. And 95% of white women would leave their husband to marry Idris Elba. Idris Elba who says, "As humans we are obsessed with race and that obsession can really hinder people's aspirations." Actress Raven-Symone agrees. She told Oprah, "I'm tired of being labeled. I'm not an African-American. I'm an American." She says, "I don't know what country in Africa I'm from. My roots are in Louisiana."
And you don't have to agree with that, but it's a point of view a lot of people have. It should be respected. Morgan Freeman says the way to finish off racism is, "stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man."
There's even a movement now to ban racial questions on the census, and many of its leaders are people of color like Professor Sheena Mason who says, "to undo racism we have to undo our belief in race."
The liberal group moveon.org formed in 1998 to urge Republicans to move on from the Clinton impeachment. Today's Democrats should move on from identity politics. It's not working. It's not working for them or for us. Democrats are hemorrhaging the very voters they think they're pandering to.
The Financial Times writes, "Democrats are going backwards faster with voters of color than any other demographic," and suggests the reason is that, "A less racially divided America is an America where people vote more based on their beliefs than their identity." Exactly. Far-left liberals are living in an old paradigm. Americans don't fit into into neat little boxes anymore.
Who has the number one country song right now? Beyonce. Lil Naz X won a country music award, and he's black and gay. And a brand ambassador for the waspiest purse in America, Coach. The biggest new star in country is Jelly Roll who was a drug dealer, then a prisoner, then a rapper and then a face tatted country music star. Not to mention a giant middle finger to the idea of staying in your own lane.
No, in America now, you're allowed to be many things all at once and that's a good thing even when it's really stupid.
Look, we're all Jelly Roll now. We're sloppy, complicated and contradictory. Two-thirds of Republican voters support weed legalization. And 41% of Democrats own or live with someone who owns a gun. Ms Marvel is Pakistani. And the winner of the last two NBA dunk contests is white. The new Captain America is black. And Spider-Man is black and Puerto Rican, just like AI George Washington.
Latinos make up half of the Border Patrol. And the name of the coolest black dude on the planet is Lenny Kravitz. Ru Paul has a ranch in Wyoming that does fracking. Really. And has a fortified compound with a bunker to die for. And somehow the leader of the Village People was straight. Really. Je just went to the YMCA to work out. And the leader of the Proud Boys isn't an old white guy he's Enrique Toreo, an Afro-Cuban. He burns crosses on his own lawn.
Caitlyn Jenner is a pro-Trump transwoman who supports a ban on trans athletes competing in women's sports. And there's even an LGBTQ organization called "Gays for Trump." And why wouldn't there be? Gays love drag queens.
Our black president was half white. And our black vice president is half Asian. And Tiger Woods is, oh we don't even have the time.
My point is, look, you're still building your politics around slicing and dicing people into these fixed categories. Democrats need to get the memo that you can't win elections anymore by automatically assuming you're going to get every voter who's not these guys.
The more you obsess over identity, the more you ignore the bread and butter issues that win and lose elections. The real issue is class, not race, and the real gap is the diploma divide. And the real future of the party and maybe democracy depends on Democrats figuring that out.
==
Prediction: Trump will win, because even if the Dems wanted to change course on this identity politics bullshit, there are far too many identarians who have been elected into it on that exact basis. Look at The Squad, where every single one of them is a pathological liar who plays only by identity cards.
They can't undo a decade of abandoning their core constituency, the working class, in favor of privileged woke academic elites in the span of only six months. Even if they wanted to. Not with the wingnuts still around, doing what they've been doing for years: sucking up all the oxygen and screaming about their imaginary oppression. And there's no sign they do.

Oh... My God...
Y'all are really trying to make the most introspective ass posts about an hour 41 minute campy horror comedy that was cut down from an R rating to PG-13 and was written by a woman who chronically makes jokes out of disabilities and physically disabled people in every single one of her films like she has a complex for it.
Speaking of cutting, the guy this person is kinda playing Diablo's advocate for immediately gets his dick chopped off right after this and fucking dies so who cares?
"He's Cerebral..."
"He's in a WHEELCHAIR? :/"
Uh yeah, so Taffy can choke on a worm just like her mom.
I don't know what's with that and I don't know what's with the little "😔✊" emojis in the paragraphs long tags on this already five paragraph long post that took me two screenshots to capture because OP really thought they were saying something, but
Now I know how she felt making fun of the dorks ...
So the rest of you can just stop being dorks, enjoy the movie for what it is, let Lisa have her little Gone Grill speech (that she was 💯 right about, actually) and moveon.org!

yknow this is apparently not the Popular Take but. i dont think there is inherently anything wrong with trying to revive an old property for an older audience. like, velma and the cw powerpuff girls COULD have been good. but it wasnt bc they werent made by people who actually loved the original and had something to say about it while recontextualising the characters and concepts. they were just banking off cheap nostalgia and thinking an entire show could be carried by "remember this character you loved as a kid? well here she is having Lesbian Sex in front of her sisters. thats so #deep. did we Ruin Your Childhood? moveon.org"

Last year, we recommended some of our favorite Valentine’s Day fics, and we’re coming at you with more this year! Be sure to share your favorites as well!
how i love the view when i’m beside you by JessBakesCakes | Rated E | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | When she asks her boyfriend – she’s still getting used to calling him that – what he wants for Valentine’s Day, he simply gives her a soft smile and says, I have you; what more could I ask for? It would be infuriating if it weren’t so damn endearing. He swears he doesn’t need anything, that all he’s ever wanted is her. So she’s going to take the guesswork out of it. For Valentine’s Day, she’s going to give him exactly what he asked for. //Josh and Donna on Valentine's Day; Chiefs of Staff era J/D this is our place, we make the rules by sam_writes_fics | Rated M | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | Their first Valentine’s Day—which, isn’t even their first Valentine’s Day, but rather their first Valentine’s Day together—starts out sweet and then takes a hard left turn somewhere around mid-day. Can they salvage the night, or do they call it a wash and try again next year? // prompt: “an unconventional valentine’s date” Sweet Nothings by electric_eel | Rated G | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | Valentine’s Day for Josh and Donna. 10 years apart. tell her to please put on some speed by JediAnnieScrambler | Rated G | C. it would be funny if it weren't so pathetic the extent to which the trilogy plot of this season was written around "fixing" mal. and rather than actually making him into an active and interesting character, they instead removed romantic nikolina because nikolai is so obviously more popular. and nikolina still have an effortlessly more compelling dynamic lmao.
and honestly this isn't even about shipping to me. it's more about how much the narrative of the books and show revolve around not really even making mal likeable but making sure the audience understands he is the only possibility for alina's endgame from start to finish. like so much of the writing is dedicated to mal ending up with alina as opposed to the themes of the books, his arc complementing alina's, or just alina herself. like. i just find that lowkey sad. and boring. in the immortal words of jennifer check, moveon.org

Banned Bookmobile on Road to Freedom
Banned Bookmobile! Sounds like something cruising slowly out of a Twilight Zone episode. But, it is the creation of MoveOn.org to organize a bookmobile to travel to sites in Florida where Gov. Ron DeSantis will be speaking so that persons outside his listening audience can be freely given some of the books that he has banned in schools in the Sunshine State. They plan to have persons drive the…

Fighting for Affordable Health Care
One of the biggest issues we have in society is health care for everyone and the fact that it is not affordable for everyone as well. The United States of America spends more than any country when it comes to health care. However, health care is hard to access and even super expensive. Covid 19 also had a strong impact on the health care system. During Covid 19 some individuals even struggled with inability to access tests and treatment and insufficient mental health care. This has always been a common issue in America to learn more about the issue and fin the proper way to improve the health care system and make the much needed changes. To evaluate this issue, I have gone ahead and used sociological mindfulness skills to observe this issue.
The first skill I used to observe this issue was researching the issue. Knowing that having access to health care is difficult in the united states is one thing but it is super important to get deeper information on it, one of the social issues when it comes to health care is income, when it comes to income people in the states often receive insurance based on their income and their work status. However, about almost 27.9 million people do not have insurance in the United States, and most of the people that are impacted by this are the individuals with lower income, not only does it impact people with lower income but also one’s legal status can also impact this, their gender identity and etc..
The second skill that I used was listening, reading, and conducting research also does need to include listening. When learning about the social issues that occur with health care in the united states I would ask friends and family and their experiences that they have had with trying to get insurance and if it was an easy or difficult process. I also watched a few YouTube videos on the Manner as well the most popular one that stood out to me was “Why Medical Bills in the US are so expensive” and it went on to talk about how insurance companies only cover a little and if you have no insurance that an individual can end up spending about three hundred million dollars.
Another skill I did end up using was writing, technically when doing the research on what Health care is like in America and how it impacts us socially my big thing with conducting the research was making sure all the important things were written down and studied and overall observed. It is super important to get the educational information on health care in America, but I also think it is super important to get one’s personal experience. With some of my family members being from Jamacia we overall discussed how hard it was for them to get insurance when first coming to America and how it is even still difficult and not really easily affordable for them to get insurance in 2020, and this is with them being middle class imagine someone in the position where they are lower class it is most likely one hundred percent more difficult.
The most important skill for me to apply to this overall project would be activism. I think doing research, listening, writing and all of these things come hand and hand but you have to push for change and make a difference and this can simply be by protesting or signing petitions. I did sign a few petitions that’s goal was to make health care more affordable on websites such as Change.org and Moveon.Org with signing these petitions it definitely makes you become more aware of the issues we here in America face when it comes to no affordable health care. People can’t afford to go to the doctor, or take medication for mental health issues, or get medication for other issues like diabetes because it is too overly priced.
Imagining was the last skill I used that allowed everything to really come together. In my perspective imagining allowed me to think of ways to make health care more affordable and allowed me to fully brainstorm. Such as promoting virtual healthcare, making health insurance allowed to be purchased no matter what company you work with.
