In Waverly Academy, there is a poster of Nancy drew on a bulletin board that you can't interact with. She's really giving Hannah Montana with no one recognizing her if she's this popular.

A few days late, but I'm lazy...
My favourite books that I read during 2023!
I got really lucky this year, I read some ridiculously good books, to the point that I had a really hard time narrowing them down. And I cheated on a few and bunched them up so I wouldn't have to choose 🙃
I did more detailed assessments of the books in my month reviews, but for anyone that's interested in something I read, here's a quick description:
Annie: An Old-Fashioned Story by Thomas Meehan -- A novelization of the Little Orphan Annie story, close related to the film musical including references to the songs. A charming read that captures the enjoyment of the film but adds a lot more details into the struggles and hardships Annie would have gone through during life on her own in the Depression.
Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild -- Three girls from a poor family in London end up being welcomed to a ballet academy where they have the opportunity to learn not only how to dance, but to begin attending performances that let them earn money for their family. Follows the heart warming adventures of sisters with a nice balance of financial hardship and obligations during the Depression.
Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle -- A possession horror based around religious trauma and sexual identity. Fantastic prose and genuinely chilling at points without ever feeling hopeless. Here the demons that start stalking people in this God-fearing Montana town are both metaphorical and literal.
A Christmas Story by Jean Shepherd -- A collection of radio stories that follow the childhood misadventures of Ralphie; these stories would go to make up the classic film A Christmas Story, and Shepherd's hilarious, clever prose makes it a very fun read whether you know the film or not.
Doctor Who: Scratchman by Tom Baker -- I actually read a number of pretty good Doctor Who novels this year (13 Doctors 13 Stories, Time Lord Fairytales, Silhouette) and even a Torchwood one (Skypoint) but Scratchman was probably my favourite of the lot. The Fourth Doctor, Sarah, and Harry find themselvese in a horror adventures as they try to defend a host of villagers against an invading force of evil, skeletal scarecrows that are attempting to infect the humans around them.
Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones -- The star Sirius is accused of killing another luminary and losing a powerful instrument called a Zoi. His sentence for this crime is to be stripped of his powers and cast down to earth, to spend one lifetime living in a humble, mortal form - that of a true dog. If he can survive and find the Zoi within that lifetime, he will be welcomed back to the cosmos.
Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire -- A novella that explores the rehabilitation of children who had been chosen, who found a doorway and stepped into another, strange world. Adventures done, they now need to acclimatize themselves to living in the rigid confines of the real world.
Grandpa's Great Escape by David Walliams -- A hilarious and surprisingly heart-warming story about a boy and his grandfather who was a flying ace during the war. With his mind beginning to fail him, the grandfather is sent to live at a sinister and definitely evil old folks' home. Only Jack can save him.
Hazel's Shadow by Nicole MacCarron -- Hazel has always been plagued by strange visions - the ability to see and speak to ghosts, as well as the knowledge of a strange, nameless horror living in her grandmother's house. Things come to a head though, when a sudden, zombie-like illness explodes through her town leaving only a few left alive, too many ghosts to count, enemies at every turn, and the shadow waiting for them.
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree -- (as well as it's sequel that came out later in the year, Bookshops & Bonedust). This was such a pleasant, low-stakes, domestic fantasy about Viv, an orcish ex-mercenary who has decided she's tired of fighting and would rather settle down and open a coffeeshop. One of the sticking points being, of course, that no one knows what coffee is.
Love Beyond Body, Space & Time by assorted authors, anthology -- An Indigenous queer sci-fi anthology with a really excellent collection of stories, including an author I already knew and loved! The stories explore a wide range of gender, sexuality, magic, machines, and ways of being, I highly recommend picking it up!
A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske -- Robin, a young baronet, thought he was being shunted into the most out of the way and miserable public servant position imaginable. He expected things to be tedious but necessary. He did not expect to suddenly learn that magic is real and to be tangled in its machinations in a potentially lethal way.
(MDZS) Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu -- Rejoice, because the feared Yiling Patriarch, the necromancer terror who slaughtered thousands, is dead! And has been dead the past decade. And is now very, very confused to wake up in a new body that isn't his, in a room he's never seen before, and to be thrust into the middle of a murder mystery where everyone would want him dead if they were to learn his real identity.
Moominland Midwinter by Tove Jansson -- Moomins hibernate through the winter, that's how it has always been for them. So when young Moomintroll wakes and finds the rest of his family still fast asleep, he's left feeling lost and isolated in this new, strange, snow covered world beyond his door.
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers -- (and its sequel A Prayer for the Crown-Shy) A very gentle, compassionate sci-fi novel that explores a world humans have created post-climate-crisis. Life is different, the past distant, and a young tea monk never expected to run into an actual robot, who had so long ago left humanity to live their own secluded life in the wilds. Now they're both struggling to answer the question "What do humans need?"
The Radium Girls by Kate Moore -- (and Kate Moore's other book The Woman They Could Not Silence) The Radium Girls is a narrative non-fiction book that looks at the lives of the girls who were paid to paint luminous watch dials using radium paint. It explores the horror, exploitation, and suffering that came from work place negligence and the world's gradual learning about what exactly radium can do.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston -- Presidential son and British prince are forced together for the sake of publicity - to prove that they don't actual hate each other and aren't going to cause a diplomatic incident. They cause a whole new and exciting diplomatic incident by falling in love! Do not read this for the politics, but it did end up being way way better than I expected, this author creates quite compelling characters.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett -- Sour, spoiled, and ill Mary is sent to live with her distant uncle on the Yorkshire moors. Set to be as contrary and unhappy as possible, little by little Mary begins to come out of her shell as she experiences nature, play, and love for perhaps the first time in her life.
System Collapse by Martha Wells -- Newest Murderbot book!! Murderbot, ART's crew, and the humans from Preservation are doing their best to defend the colonists on a plant that's cursed with a strange, alien plague from being consumed by the more immediate threat of corporate slavery. Something, however, seems to be wrong with Murderbot and its worried that if it can't fix the problem soon, it may cost its humans their lives.
(TGCF) Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu -- Xie Lian is a god. Was a good. He has ascended to godhood twice, and been banished back to earth twice. Once a favour among the gods, he is now a laughing stock, a scrap-collecting god who has been forgotten by almost everyone. So it is with some shock and exasperation to all involved when he ascends for a third time.
This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone -- A ridiculous poetic novella written through improbable letters that are written between two time travels on opposites sides of a time war. Seriously, this is probably the most beautiful book I read this year, go read it, the hype is justified.
Wave Me Goodbye by Jacqueline Wilson -- As World War Two rages, Shirley, like many children of the time, is sent from her home in London to be housed by a foster family in the country in order to avoid the Blitz. Put up with two boys in the strange, mostly empty Red House, Shirley has to find a new life for herself out in the country.
When The Angels Left The Old Country by Sacha Lamb -- Uriel the angel and Little Ash the demon find themselves drawn from their usual lives when a young girl from their shtetl goes missing after emigrating to America. Both with their own reasons for wanting to leave the old country, they set off on a sea voyage that will change everything for them.
Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame -- The classic stories of Rat, Mole, and Toad. The story begins when Mole, venturing out of his little burrow, meets Rat and winds up living with him in his little home by the river rather than returning to his own, lonely, little hole. From there they have a variety of domestic adventures over the seasons, most notable being Toad's ill-fated obsession with motor cars.

"LW2G" - The Debut EP by KATSEYE (my reimagining of their debut)
Tumblr media
So this is actually the second imagined album I've put together, which feels weird to nobody but me, because despite only posting one for ITZY literally a whole year ago, at all times I have at least 5 half finished imagined albums in my drafts lmao. This one is for KATSEYE, because if you've seen my rants reviews in my Monthly Roundup series (here & here) you will know that I have not been exactly pleased with the direction HYBE is taking them. I am aware that the group's debut EP 'SIS' is dropping soon, so I wanted to post this now so my opinions wouldn't be overly influenced by what the group has already released.  ALSO - a lot of this post was talked through and contributed to by my moot @pocima so thanks so much for that bestie u have amazing taste :) Before we get into the tracklist, let’s lay out what I wanted to achieve from this project:
It should have a clear, defined target audience.
The EP should establish a sound that doesn’t echo someone else currently releasing music aimed at that target audience.
The sound created should allow them room to grow and explore.
The EP should be somewhat thematically relevant to their status as rookies and their big aspirations.
Their concept should emphasize their status as a truly international group and capitalize on that.
So with that out of the way, let's get into “LW2G”, my imagined KATSEYE debut project.
Target Audience:
Because of the ages of the members, and because the music promotion vessel of choice these past few years has been TikTok, older teenagers seem the most obvious target audience for a group like KATSEYE in my opinion.
Concept:
The concept will be semi inspired by the somewhat new yet already iconic ‘superhero by night, ordinary girl by day’ trope popularised by Sailor Moon, Hannah Montana, etc. High school is a pretty universal experience and will link KATSEYE with girls around the world, so half of the concept will build on this - perhaps there could be concept photos of the girls wearing typical school uniforms from their region? This would also expand upon the aesthetics of ‘Dream Academy’. The other half will draw from classic 90s girl group aesthetics, think TLC or Destiny’s Child music videos. The combination of relatability and aspiration works well for a 2024 market in my opinion - it's what gives stars like Taylor Swift longevity over their competitors. The concept also feels very kpop in my opinion, which is also supposed to be what sets KATSEYE apart from their competitors.
Sound:
The sound will build off the concept throughout the tracklist. The marching band instrumentation references a high school ambience, but the 00s synths echo the superstar energy I’m trying to create in the second half of the concept. Key reference points for the sound will be Nelly Furtado, TLC, and Destiny’s Child.
Tracklist:
(1) Step On Up (orig. Ariana Grande)
I wanted to start with this cult favourite of Ariana Grande's discography. I love how the percussion plays with the vocal performance, it effortlessly builds the excitement for the album, references the marching bands of the concept, and it's thematically relevant to the groups status as rookies. I truly believe the KATSEYE girls could handle this song effortlessly.
(2) Long Way 2 Go (orig. Cassie)
This is the track that I envision being the title track, ITS SO ADDICTIVE. I would definitely change the lyrics to suit the girls being younger, and I would love to see a variety of languages in this track - they might be an international group but if they only sing in English they are functionally another american pop group. This also works well thematically for KATSEYE, and the synths echo their 'pop superstar by night' concept.
(3) Lose My Breath (orig. Destiny's Child)
This has the potential to be another promoted track that I could see expanding on the high school it girl aspect of their concept, due to it's gorgeous percussion. This is such a classically amazing dance track and we know that these girls can DANCE, so I know they would kill a choreography to it.
(4) Change (orig. FLO)
Thanks to @pocima again for suggesting this track specifically, it really pulls the album together and brings that relatability that perhaps some of the other songs were lacking. FLO have such an amazing discography, but this track especially would work well with the girls' vocal styles in my opinion. Its on the more rnb side, creating another avenue of music for the group to explore in future projects without alienating their main sound. I could also see this as a secondary single from the EP, functioning as the kind of mirror image to LW2G.
(5) Better (orig. BoA)
An absolute banger from the queen of kpop, and it works so well on this EP. It has this aura that I really think the KATSEYE girls could pull off. It has the beautiful 00s/90s synths we love and the anthemic nature of the song fits the girl group style effortlessly.
(6) Soul (orig. Girls' Generation)
I love this track for the closer because it brings together all the different elements of the EP - it has the percussion of Lose My Breath and Step On Up, the synths of LW2G, the assertiveness of Better and the vocals of Change. Again, I don't know that it would only be in Korean - i would love to see some of the other languages the girls speak featuring on this track. Like many of the tracks on this album, the concept of 'finding your soul' also speaks to the position KATSEYE is in within the industry, and successfully rounds out the overall message of the EP - KATSEYE are here to rock the boat and find out who they are along the way.
Final Thoughts:
I really like the EP I've put together here, and I truly think it fills a gap in the market - it's really not a bad idea to pitch a new girl group at america considering its been a long time since a group act has really made it big over there, and KATSEYE certainly have what it takes talent-wise. I may not have liked the two singles KATSEYE have dropped so far, but I am certainly sat for their official EP whenever it comes out. By all means let me know ur thoughts on my tracklist and concept ideas, and thanks for reading, I appreciate it a lot.

He knew this moment would need to come, but he'd hoped it wouldn't be for at least a couple more days.
When he'd watched back the Reapings from the other Districts, he hadn't gotten very far his first time through-- District One, a couple Careers he did not know, fresh faced and dressed in crisp outfits surely picked out by the Academy, expected. District Two he thought would go the same, and he thought, at first, his nerves were getting to him when he recognized the voice calling out to volunteer.
They then cut to Maverick Montana's face. Older, sharper, but still as infuriatingly beautiful as he had ever been. He'd stopped listening there, his pulse racing, a sharp ringing in his ears. Alder ended up on the floor, staring at the wall until his sweat cooled and left him shivering, numb. He didn't know how to feel, what to think. He asked himself why Maverick would do this, and a voice in his mind answered that he knew exactly why. Now he was face-to-face with him, accidentally, in the mentor's gym. He'd come on autopilot, Pyxis had shown him some ways to stretch to relieve tension, he thought trying that was better than being cooped up in his room. It occurred to him neither should really be using this gym anymore, but the lines were blurred these Games, weren't they? "You cut your hair," he blurted. Idiot. A dumb thing to say. All this time he'd spent hung up on him, having fake arguments with him in his mind, trying to move forward, and when he finally saw him again this is what he said?

Xavier x Reader - Maybe a few more lessons. Pt 2.
Plot - During second term, you join Nevermore academy. One of the first things you do is join the archery club, and from there you get to know Xavier Thorpe. At first he seems head over heels for Wednesday, but maybe at some point he'll see something in you? In school, you go through many dilemmas which you need to solve.
Tumblr media
Part 2
───♡───
Spending the afternoon with Xavier, it turns out he was pretty funny. He was nice to he around, even if it was to help you with archery. Thought a lot of the time all be spoke about was Wednesday, it was sort of annoying. Whatever we spoke about, the subject changed to Wednesday. Wednesday this, Wednesday that. God was he obsessed with her. It was once sided however.
You were adjusting fine to the new school and the new environment. You made a fair share of freinds, Bianca and her freinds and then again you occasionally spoke to Wednesday.
"You know Xavier is madly inlove with you." You told Wednesday the obvious as you sat next to her. Of couse she gave no reaction, just looked at you with a vacant expression. "Well he needs to get the hint I don't reciprocate those feelings." You laughed at her straight forward answer with her dull eyes. Though, Wednesday didn't see what was funny about it. "He talks about you all the time you know, I've seen his drawings." You mused to Wednesday as he budged your shoulder againts hers. "I've seen them too. And I dread looking at myself. He's wasting his talent." You gave up and sighed to yourself. "Why don't you try him out?" You asked the question. "(Y/n) the last man I actually tried things out with turned out to be a psychopath. I'm not doing that again." Wednesday stood up abruptly and looked down at you. Defeated, you decided to leave. "Yeah yeah okay." You're voice trailed into silence as you left the dorm room.
Walking down the dark plank walls, walking back outside. You snuffed the cold air up your nose. It was chilly out, more than usual. Not many people were out, but with no fail you see Xavier. He stands at a wall as he paints one of the walls. Curious on what he's doing, you walk over to him. Creeping up from behind. He hates it, but you secretly adore making him jump. Again you stand behind him, peering your eyes past him as you look at his painting. All you do is stand and gaze at the painting. You get lost in thought. "I like the colours." You decide to speak up, making Xaviers shoulders jump as he almost drops his paint brush. "You need to stop doing that." Xavier said as he turned to look down at you. His eyes met yours. "Are you not cold painting outside like this?" You ask as you walk buy him to take a closer look at the painting. Just to see the detail up close. Though Wednesday didn't appreciate his art, you certainly did. Xavier now behind you, shook his head as he continued to look at you. His eyes followed as you moved closer to the painting. "No, not really. My hands are cold but that's about it." His knuckles now a dusty red along with his fingers tips and nose. You turn back to look. "You make really nice drawings Xavier." You totally ignored what he say and come back with your own comment. The comment seemed to make him fluster and shake his head. "Thank you (y/n) at least some appreciate my art. Unlike others..." He was talking about Wednesday. You laugh at his comment as you averted your gaze from his, looking over to the open space were the crows of people had thinned out. "Maybe its best if you go inside now. If your hands freeze and fall off, you won't be able to paint." You say as you shrug your shoulders nonchalantly and walk past him, heading inside. Even you were cold, and would much rather be inside than in the nipping colds. Xavier glanced down at his hands and internally agreed with what you said. Quickly packing up to catch up to your side. He held his equipment under his arm as he now walked by your side. "I never asked why you ended up at this school. Or really, what I'm asking is what's your ability?" Xavier tried to find the right words to not offend you when he asked the question. From the corner of his eyes he looked at you, waiting momentarily for your reply. You paused, and didn't know if you should tell him. With your ability you were always deemed untrustworthy and manipulative. But Xavier would know better than to think that. Right?
"I can...do stuff with minds. I can look into a person's mind and see what they think, and all sorts of things." You tried to explain as you walked into the warmer interior of the academy. "So... you can manipulate minds?" Xavier shorted what you said. His tone curious. You hated the way he worded it but he was right. "Well I wouldn't say it like that, but yes I suppose that's what it is. But since you asked the question, what can you do?" You brushed past the topic trying to bring the focus onto something else. Xavier glanced at his artsy things in his hold. "I bring drawings to life." He said with a smile on his face. And you looked at him, his hair pulled away from his face into a man bun with exra hair hanging down his neck ; that was angled down to look at you. "Wow, that's really cool actually. That makes sense now actually. I bet you can pull lots of pranks with that." He did look like the devious type. With a smirk on his face, he gave a halfassed laugh. "Well yeah I suppose I can." Xavier shrugged his shoulders. You took a step back away from him. "Anyway, bye. I'll see you at archery tomorrow... its too cold today." You didn't give Xavier a chance to reply as you had already turned around to leave. Walking in the direction of your dorm section. "Aww that's a shame, I was looking forward to seeing you." You heard from behind as Xavier teased as he too turned away to go up to his dorm room. A smile hinted on your lips at his humor.
Arriving at your dorm, Bianca was sat on her bed on her phone as you walked in. She took a moment to register that you walked in. "Oh hey (y/n) where were you?" She placed her phone faced down and raised her head to watch you as you placed your bag down before you sluggishly got into the warmth of your bed. "I was with Wednesday, and then pumped into Xavier." Biancas expression dimmed. "Oh well." She said picking her phone back up. You took this opportunity to ask why she always seemed like this. "Hey Bianca, whats up with you and Xavier, I mean you always seem to get annoyed whenever he's mentioned." You enquired as you strighted your posture to look at her and analyse her face. Silence lingred in the air. The two of you just sitting there waiting for somsone to speak. "He's my ex. He broke up with me and accused me of using my siren powers on him to manipulate him." Bianca replied bluntly. Her words catching you off guard for a moment. "Oh I'm sorry." You replied not knowing how to sympathise with her. "Well I understand now, I would be bitter too if he did that." Your head lowered away from her as you looked down at your hands that were all red from the cold. "If that wasn't worse enough. He lets Wednesday walk all over him no problem." Bianca processed to mutter under her breath but you still caught onto what she said. You decided to ignore it.
Either way, your phone vibrated in your pocket. Reaching for it to go see what it was. It was a text.
A text reading : 'Hey (y/n) it's xavier. ' How the hell did he get your number. You didn't recall giving it to him. Glancing up from the text and Bianca. You decided to answer. (Y/n) - 'Care to explain HOW you got my number?' Xavier replied only a few moments later. Xavier - 'that's you don't need to know. But that's one way to say hi back.'
You rolled your eyes and continued to reply. The two of you exchanged a few texts here and there, but most of the time you took ages to reply to him. But it wad mutual.
What a strange guy you thought to yourself. As you looked over his number before placing your phone down next to you. You pulled out homework for your herbology class, the new teacher really put a lot of homework In the first week for you. Now that you think of you... she mentioned an assignment.

Missoula, Montana, is best known for its blue-ribbon trout fishing. With a population of over seventy thousand, it is one of the most significant populations in Montana. While it may seem like little to states such as California or Texas, it is important to the locals. Most towns and cities within Montana have small populations, so reaching over seventy thousand was a big feat for this state. One of the residents who resided in Missoula was Hope Thorn, a new deputy to the Missoula Sheriff's Department.
Hope Thorn was the everyday woman you saw on the street; not much stood out about her or her upbringing. She was born and raised in Bigfork, Montana, to two loving parents. Hope was from a large family, having three brothers and two sisters, all with Christian-based names as well. Hope was the youngest of the siblings, and while they picked on her for being the youngest, they loved each other at the end of the day. It was a tight-knit family, one that attended church every Sunday. They all were very involved with the church by attending volunteer events, being a part of the choir, or serving during the sermons. They were a well-respected working-class family beloved by their community.
However, once Hope was old enough, she left her family behind to go to Missoula to branch out and join the Sheriff's Department. While her family was sad to see her leave, they all supported her decision. Hope would call her parents every day and her siblings every other day. She'd spend hours on the phone with her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and in-laws, which was her favorite part of the day. Hope always felt blessed to have such a loving family; she wouldn't trade it for anything.
The transition to Missoula was rough for the woman, but she quickly made friends within the training academy. She excelled in the academy, receiving high marks in almost every area. Hope put all she had into this training, wanting to become just like her Grandfather, the former Sheriff of Missoula. So when she passed the academy at the top of her class, she was beyond excited. Unfortunately for her, that excitement would extinguish rather swiftly as she received her first assignment.
Hope had thought they'd throw her straight into the field due to her graduating scores, but instead, they assigned her to some small county in the Southwest region of Montana. From what she knew of that area, it was nothing but farmland and the occasional small town here and there. She couldn't understand why they'd give her such an underwhelming assignment until she walked by her superiors talking about the assignment. Apparently, the office thought sending her to Hope County would be funny because her name was Hope.
However, they also sent her because she had received such high marks, and the Hope County sheriff had requested an experienced officer for this request. The department wanted to keep its experienced officers in Missoula, so they sent Hope in place.
The assignment said it should only take a week since she was merely investigating some complaints. Thus, she'd pack enough bags to last her a week and some change. Once everything was packed, Hope threw everything into the back of her truck and started driving to Hope County. During the drive, she called her parents and explained the situation, to which they tried to reassure her that this assignment was because the department trusted her (and not just because she was named Hope).
Upon entering Hope County, Hope's suspicions were correct. While it was a beautiful area of Montana, it was nothing more than forest, farmland, and what seemed to be a small town. Hope was flabbergasted by its size when she finally made it to the Sheriff's department. It couldn't be any bigger than her apartment back in Missoula… But she supposed it was because there wasn't much crime happening.
As soon as she exited her truck, she was greeted by the Sheriff, who didn't even give her time to unpack before unloading the assignment on her. According to him, the people who had been putting in the complaint were on his ass about it, so he was in a hurry to get someone over to the suspect's house so that he could claim he had done something about it. Earl Whitehorse was the man's name, but before she could ask him any more questions, he took her bags and handed her a Hope County uniform. The Sheriff told her that he'd put her bag in the only motel in the town and that she just needed to let the front desk know once she got there.
After changing into the Hope County uniform and putting her badge "Deputy H. Thorn" on it, Hope wasted no time heading to the location marked on her map. As she pulled into the parking lot of a lonesome church, Hope noticed armed people surrounding the church itself. It was rather off-putting, but she had a job to do so she ignored it for the time being.
Hopping out of her truck, Hope would make her way towards the entrance of the church. At the door, the blonde would take in a deep breath before quietly making her way inside the church. Once inside, Hope’s eyes were met with scriptures and scribbles along the church’s walls. There seemed to be little light within the sanctuary, it was almost suffocating. As uncomfortable as she might have felt, Hope would do her best to remain inconspicuous while finding her way to the corner of the church to watch the sermon.

Can I please hear about the La'An and Chris' mom lore for Youthful Exuberance?
~ enterprise-come-in 💠🖖🏻
Oooh yes, and thank you for asking, @enterprise-come-in! ❤️
Folks who haven’t read the story to the end, this isn’t the post for you. Spoilers incoming.
Seriously.
Last warning….
Okay, so we know La’an and Willa (Chris’ mom’s name taken from beta canon) meet at Chris and Una’s wedding when La’an is in prep school. Not long after that, La’an starts at Starfleet Academy. Willa, at this point, is established in Montana, has come to love Una (sort of), and enjoys having houseguests more than she admits to her son who waited a year to truly start his career so he could be close to Willa. And, of course, we all know from watching the show what La’an suffered before Una found her.
(You might be wondering about Willa’s Earth-typical mistrust of Augments and genetic engineering. But why, according to Willa, would La’an be considered an Augment when the young woman is in fact a descendant of an Augment — and therefore someone with a tough road that could be smoothed by some extra love?*)
*I find the canon status of La’an in terms of “benefitting” from genetic engineering to be confusing at best (as of two seasons in). That’s a dozen headcanons at least, but Willa sees La’an in Willa’s way.
So we have two people, both in need of family, both part of the same family through Chris and Una, both on the same side of the same continent on the same planet.
Which means that La’an stays over at Willa’s house sometimes, the first invitation extended for Federation Day dinner when La’an had nowhere to go and Willa had no one to feed. The invitations continue, gratefully accepted. Willa learns La’an’s favorite foods (because that’s how Pikes show love) and La’an volunteers to help with household tasks that Willa finds difficult (because beating back her own shyness in service of a task is how La’an shows love). Which means La’an upgrades Willa’s security system. Twice. Sometimes they read in separate chairs in front of the fireplace and La’an could swear she could reach out and feel the love in the air, tangible.
Chris and Una get separate letters from La’an and Willa, each pleased and worried she’s taking up too much of the other’s time, then both accepting reassurance that it’s good, it’s really good, that La’an has someone to fuss over her and Willa has someone to fuss over. Especially because Chris and Una try to be there for the important things, but are gone for sometimes years at a time.
La’an invites Willa to see First Contact Day fireworks and Willa’s laugh is full-bellied because Willa was going to invite La’an to the same fireworks display.
Remember the story’s scene in which La’an finally gets to see Una in the holding cell? I reworked that scene so many times because I kept trying to (and ultimately couldn’t) fit in dialogue of La’an saying to Willa in that quiet, under-her-breath way La’an can have: “I admire how you got into the holding cell.” And Willa replying in her usual encouraging, self-assured way: “With age comes wisdom, dear.”
And I know the story makes clear that La’an has separate close relationships with Una, Kat Cornwell, and Neera. In my mind, Willa is there, too — particularly for Family Weekend at Starfleet Academy and someone asks La’an who that feisty old lady is and La’an isn’t sure whether to say my grandmother-in-law or my great aunt-in-law or some variation on my older, nebulously related cousin. But categorizing is for security sweeps, not people, so La’an simply says: “Her name is Willa and she’s my family.”

Meet The Addams Family | Rhett Abbott x Addams!OC Imagine
Takes place before the events of ‘Wednesday’ and after OR S1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Link to my Rhett Abbott (plus Addams!OC) Masterlist
Characters & Pairings: Rhett Abbott x Persephone Addams!OC (Romantic), The Addams Family (Wednesday version)
Content Warnings: profanity, fluff, light angst, blood, mentions of torture and attempted assault, implied smut. | Female OC (she/her) | wc. 5.2k (unedited so I’m sorry for some grammar/spelling mistakes)
Premise: Months after Rhett Abbott’s first date with Persephone Addams, the time to finally meet her family has arrived. And the Addams family sure know how to throw a dinner party.
Note: Sorry for the late update on this crossover series I have. I’ve had so many ideas for TGM that I’ve focused on those, also I was catching up on S5 of Yellowstone to inspire me for my Lana Dutton!OC x Rhett Abbott series.
Rhett adjusted his shirt for the fourth time in a single minute. His expression was one of unease, causing Persephone to run a hand up his arm, “You appear in distress, my darling. What’s got you worried?”
How could he possibly tell her? The last thing Rhett wanted to do was let his girlfriend down by saying he was close to shitting his pants at the thought he was about to meet her parents for the first time.
Morticia and Gomez Addams. An odd but loving couple to the naked eye, they were hopelessly devoted to one another and their children. First meeting as teenagers at Nevermore Academy, the two traveled the world before settling down to have three children. Then they went on family adventures, moving all over the US and finally settling in the small ranch town of Wabang, Wyoming. Using their wealth they pretty much grew the town by bringing jobs in with the many businesses they created and invested in.
Rhett had never spoken a single word to the Addams, only ever seeing them from afar. Now he’s about to come face to face with their entire family. Marking their sixth month of officially seeing each other, Persephone invited Rhett for Sunday family dinner. The cowboy was hesitant, but he was serious about his feelings for Percy and had dragged the meeting long enough.
He just feared he’d make a bad impression. Percy meant a lot to Rhett. The two were already half a year into their relationship since their first coffee and dinner date. They’d traveled together to Montana, Colorado to see the Stanley hotel, and have plans to go to Vermont in the upcoming year. Love was something he never thought he’d have, but with Percy he felt it second he was breathing. He was head over heels for Percy and Rhett knew how important family was to her. They still had yet to introduce the eldest Addams to his parents…..which would likely happen in a few more weeks so he needed to prepare that. Of course his folks were aware of the relationship, they just had never met the woman.
The other day while visiting Percy in the shop, Rhett kept babbling about what to wear, what to bring, etc. “This ain’t just a regular dinner, baby,” he took the box she handed to him, placing it by the empty bookshelf she was about to fill, “This is dinner with your folks—and your siblings! Who I ain’t ever spoken to ‘fore. I wanna make a good impression, s’all.”
Percy just looked up at him with a loving look, “honey you are worrying too much. Don’t give me that look,” she pointed a finger at said look, “You could walk in wearing your chaps and beat up flannel and my parents would not pay any mind. They’ve been looking forward to meeting you for months. Just be yourself and they’ll love you—it’s how I fell in love with you.” She didn’t miss how his cheeks blushed at her words. Kissing his jaw, Percy looked him in the eyes, “My family is providing dinner and expect no welcome gift—so don’t feel pressured to bring one. Just bring your good looks and attitude—you’ll be great.”
Rhett chuckled, shaking his head before leaning down to kiss her. “I can’t with you sometimes.”
Although she told him not to bring a gift, Rhett did buy a nice bottle of red wine. He didn’t have much when it came to nice clothes, but he pulled out his button down reserved for special occasions and a good pair of slacks.
“Just nerves, darlin’,” he told her, interlacing their fingers. The radio was playing old classical music, which surprisingly helped calm his nerves a tad. “Don’t wanna disappoint ya, s’all.”
Percy leaned over to kiss his cheek, “You could never disappoint me, cowboy.” For the remainder of the drive her head laid on his shoulder, the clear surroundings of the valley disappearing as they cut through the tree line.
Deep in the woods just outside of town stood the Addams family mansion. An eerie yet beautiful sight, the home stood as high as the tallest tree with an iron gate surrounding its perimeter and personal cemetery off to the side. What made it more spooky was the home seemed to have its own personal fog despite no ocean nearby pushing it onto the land.
The iron gate opened automatically allowing Lurch to proceed into the long driveway before coming to a stop in front of the stairs. When the car door opened, Rhett exited first then extended a hand to help Percy out. His nerves were still swirling as Percy led him up the stairs. They were met with the door opening when they hit the second to last step, and Percy’s parents greeting them with excited expressions.
“Hello, hello!” Gomez extended his arms out before moving to embrace Percy. “Welcome back, my little spider.” Percy said hello before moving to her mother, meanwhile Gomez turned his attention to Rhett. “And you must be the man who’s taken my daughters heart hostage,” Gomez held a hand out, Rhett immediately accepting it with his own. Gomez’s handshake was firm but warm and friendly. “Gracias, I haven't seen my little pomegranate this happy since she mentally tortured an old professor who harassed her.”
Unsure of how to really respond, while noting to ask Percy of said story, Rhett simply smiled, “It’s a pleasure to know I’ve held her attention this long and hasn’t gotten tired of me yet.” It must've been the right answer because Gomez looked like a kid in a candy store. Rhett then added, “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Addams,” he turned to Morticia who was now staring at him, “And you as well, Mrs. Addams. Percy has told me lot ‘bout you two.”
“And yet you stayed,” Morticia smirked to her daughter. “I’ve taught you well.”
“I learn from the best, mother,” Percy moves closer to Rhett, placing a hand on his arm. “Rhett, darling, this is my mother, Morticia Addams, and my father, Gomez Addams. Mother, father, this is my boyfriend, Rhett Abbott.”
“Welcome to our home, Rhett,” Morticia’s teeth were blinding white as she smiled, “We’ve been looking forward to this day since our daughter told us the news. Please, come in.” Together they follow Percy’s parents inside the grand estate with Lurch closing the doors behind them. The butler, however, returns to the car before driving off back towards town. “Our apologies, but dinner will be later than planned. Wednesday is at fencing practice and should be home within the hour. Pugsley is doing homework.”
“Oh that’s no problem, Mrs. Addams. I ain’t in no rush this evenin’. You have a beautiful home,” Rhett compliments, taking in the gorgeous staircase with a crystal chandelier draping frown from the high ceilings. The outside looked like a castle, and the inside was just as grand. “Oh and this is for you,” he hands over the bag containing the wine.
“Why thank you, Rhett,” she pulls out the bottle and grins. “This is one of my favorites. How did you know?”
“Lucky guess,” he shrugs with a smile. Truth be told he didn’t have a fucking clue when it came to wine. He just remembered Percy say their family only ever drinks red wine the color of blood and went with it. Then he asked his ma about the good brands and she pointed him in the right direction. In the store he literally bought the first one his eyes landed on.
It sure was a lucky guess.
Percy looked into the living room to find the playpen was empty. “Where's Mona?”
“Down for her afternoon nap, darling. I wasn’t sure if you wanted her at the table with us, but made sure she had her nap so she wouldn’t be fussy.”
Percy gave a look of thanks, “I appreciate that, mother. Thank you. I’ll go check on her,” she tugs Rhett to follow her, “and may as well give you a tour of the house, mi amor.”
“Well see you back here for dinner,” Morticia tells him, Gomez waving a hand. Rhett smiles, letting his girlfriend lead him away. She shows him the main living room, the kitchen, the exit to the backyard which in turn leads to the family cemetery.
They move up the grand staircase to the second floor. “Over here is Pusgley’s room, Wednesday's is on the other end with a bathroom in between. On the third floor is Lurch’s room as well as a room reserved for my Uncle Fester when he visits.” Traveling to the opposite side of the second floor, Percy stops in front of an onyx black colored door. “This is where I reside,” pushing it open, the room is revealed to Rhett.
Everything about it screamed Persephone. Her vintage gothic aesthetic, her artwork, her love of literary tragedies and Edgar Allen Poe. It was a huge room—twice the size of Rhetts. Ravens painted the ceiling, black sheer curtains over the canopy bed and arch window. Black bookshelves filled to the brim took up a corner of the room connecting to a long wooden desk. An easel stood in another corner where sketches had been taped on the wall beside it. The bedspread appeared to be silk sheets, no doubt of expensive taste. Rhett spotted an open door that looked to be a walk-in closet, another leading into a personal bathroom.
“Wow,” he muttered, following Percy he let his eyes take it all in. Dropping her purse on the desk, Percy headed for another door located on the right side of the bedroom. Rhett nearly missed it, head tilting in confusion as he watched Percy slowly open it to peak in.
Then her lips broke into a grin, “Look who’s up!” A baby-like giggle was the response, making Rhett form his own smile. As they entered the connecting nursery, Desdemona had pulled herself up in her crib, and waited for her mother to take her out. Now one-year-old, little Mona was becoming an explorer.
“Someone must’ve heard us come in,” Percy lifts her daughter into her arms, placing a kiss to her chubby cheek. “And could not wait to greet us.” Upon seeing Rhett, Mona wiggles with excitement in Percy’s hold.
“Hey, munchkin,” Rhett immediately takes her from Percy, lifting her high before kissing her cheek to the sound of her baby laughter. Stroking Mona’s hair, Percy leans into Rhett’s side, “I’ll never not adore how you are with her, Rhett.”
“It’s what she deserves,” He turns to her, “what you both deserve, darlin’.” Kissing Percy’s forehead, the couple move back into the room with Rhett taking claim to one side of the bed. Percy lays on the other side with Mona climbing onto Rhett’s chest.
“How are you, mi amore? I know my parents can be….something. Well all us Addams are something, but you understand what I mean.”
Rhett places Mona in the space between them for tummy time, turning to lay on his side, “I’m doin’ great, Percy. I was a little worried, but your parents are very welcomin’. I’m glad I finally got to meet ‘em.”
“Well the night isn’t over just yet,” she teases. “You still have to meet my siblings…..and survive a dinner with us.”
About an hour goes by of the two just lying in bed with Mona, tickling and playing with the babygirl while exchanging kisses and talking before they’re called down to the dining room. As they come down the stairs, Mona in Percy’s arms, Pugsley races around the corner. “Hey, sis.”
“Hello, Pugsley. How was your day?”
“Boring. My teacher gave me extra homework because in our mock trial of Macbeth I said the verdict was bullshit and my classmates would never make it as lawyers.”
“Was it bullshit?” Percy questioned with curiosity.
“The prosecution forgot to present the evidence and the jury found him guilty.”
Percy tsked, shaking her head, “I do believe that your words were true then, brother.” Motioning to her boyfriend, she introduces the two, “Pugsley, I’d like you to meet Rhett Abbott. Rhett, this is my brother, Pugsley.”
Rhett tips his hat before extending his hand, “Nice to meet you, Pugsley. I’m Rhett.”
The boy shakes his hand, nodding to his Stetson, “Are you a real cowboy? That’s so cool—can you teach me to ride a bull? I wanna see how much air I can get when I fly off—.”
“Pugsley,” Percy gently cuts him off with a chuckle. “Let us eat first and then you can ask Rhett all the questions you have.” He pouts but nods nonetheless. They follow behind him into the dining room where the rest of the family is waiting for them.
Wednesday is the only one standing, staring Rhett down as he enters. Her face is blank, hands clasped in front of her, and she’s dressed in her usually black dress and Doc Marten shoes. There’s no telling what she’s thinking, but her stare alone is enough to send chills down the cowboy’s spine.
Percy places Mona in her high chair, “How was fencing, sister?”
“Like everyday,” her voice is monotone. “The other students have trouble accepting they lack skill and talent no matter how many times I have to tell them. Pouting and throwing tantrums each time I ruin their ego. It’s a wonderful feeling.”
“Glad to hear it’s going so well,” Percy smiles, motioning for Rhett. He adjusts his collar, feeling the nerves resurface as he comes face to face with the infamous Wednesday Addams. “Wednesday, this is—.”
“Rhett Abbott, son of ranchers Royal and Cecelia Abbott. Brother to Perry Abbott and uncle to Amy Abbott, and bull riding champion,” Wednesday interrupts, causing Rhett to still. The fact she already knew who he was and who his parents were worried him. Wednesday’s expression remained emotionless, “I know who you are. When I gathered all the names of those involved in humiliating my sister ten years ago, you were the only one who didn’t repost the video nor was a part in the act itself. You’re the only one who’s not on my list of revenge because Persephone never spoke ill of you. Considering you two are in a relationship, it must mean you are all she voiced you to be, and I would never harm someone my sister cares for. Unless, of course, you hurt her,” Wednesday tilts her head, as though to challenge Rhett, “Then I will seek what is needed to get even, Rhett Abbott.”
Before Rhett could respond, Wednesday turned around to take her seat. Giving his girlfriend a look, the cowboy made a face that read, ‘She scares me,’ to which Percy only patted his shoulder with a nod. “Come on then, lover, let us eat.” As they approached their own reserved chairs, Percy leaned over, “You'll get used to it. Eventually.”
The food was bought out and served to everyone’s plate. Percy fed Mona in between her own bites while Rhett made small talk with Gomez and Morticia. “Our daughter tells us you are quite the act at the local rodeo,” Morticia cuts into a piece of meat, “What is it you do?”
“Oh uh,” Rhett wipes his mouth with a napkin before replying, “I ride bulls, ma’am. I do the circuit—tournament when it comes ‘round.”
“Fascinating,” Gomez awes, “Have you ever been trampled, dear boy?”
“Father,” Percy warns.
“Oh my apologies,” the man places a hand to his chest, “I’m just curious after all the stories we’ve heard. Not to mention we saw Mr. Patterson’s son in a wheelchair not too long ago—said he was thrown off a bull. Marvelous animals those creatures are.”
“It’s alright,” Rhett assures, bidding Percy a glance. “But yes sir, I have a. In fact, it’s how I got this scar on my shoulder,” he pats a hand over the material of his shirt where said scar laid. “Wasn’t the first time and sure won’t be the last.”
“Why you do it then?” Pugley questioned with a mouth full of food, earning a look of disapproval from Percy.
“Cause it’s one hell of an adrenaline rush—‘scuse my language. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it, darling,” Percy smiles, eyes full of mischief, “This table has heard worse than a few foul words.” Refilling her wine, she directed her attention to Wednesday. “Rhett’s niece, Amy, recently read The Prince by Machiavelli, sister. She had many questions I unfortunately could not answer, but I told her you were more suited in that area of expertise. She asked if you would be interested in having a discussion on it someday.”
“I am impressed to find there is someone else in this town with exquisite taste when it comes to classical literature,” Wednesday replies in her usual monotone voice. “I would be interested, however I am quite busy these days. Possibly once the school term ends I would be open to hearing her thoughts.”
Percy nods, glancing at Rhett who looks flabbergasted. “We’ll make sure she gets the message. Right, darling?” He just nods, mouth still agape and Percy pats his cheek lovingly. “How is your plan coming along, Wednesday? Any recent developments?”
The lips of the teenager curl up, giving her an almost sinister appearance. “Tex Garrison was arrested this morning after I emailed the evidence of his text messages with an underaged girl to the sheriff. Macy and Oliver Kilt were seen at the local divorce lawyer—Friday he received my folder compiled with all her bank statements from her hidden checking account and photographs with Brian Quinn—Brian’s wife also received a folder, but I have no update on them yet. I’m working on the main group as we speak. I’m hoping for it to be set in motion once they are all in town again.”
All those names were known to Rhett. Classmates from when he and Percy were in school. All of whom were involved in video recording the incident and posting it online for everyone to see.
Wednesday wasn’t joking when she said she had a list of everyone who played a part. And it wasn’t hard to piece together who the ‘main group’ was….with Maria as the mastermind.
‘Well shit,’ he thought, taking a large gulp of wine. It was going to be interesting what Wednesday had in store for them. Even with those who simply recorded and distributed the video, she not only fucking ruined their lives but exposed some sinister traits they were hiding. The news of Tex was surely going to spread like wildfire. Rhett made a disgusted face as he remembered the things Tex would say in class to his friends. It shouldn’t surprise him he was a piece of shit.
“Do let me know when the time comes,” Percy’s voice snapped him from his thoughts. Turning, Rhett recognized the look in her eyes. It was one of bloodlust.
He’d only seen it once, but it sure sent chills down his body whenever he thought of the memory. Two months prior they were at the rodeo and Percy was waiting for Rhett just off to the side where he would exit so they could head home for the night. Buckle bunnies would try to flirt but Rhett paid them no mind as he made his way to Percy. From where he was he could see her, dressed in denim and leather and giving him a look he knew all too well. When they made eye contact she winked, causing Rhett to quicken his pace, but before he could reach her a buddy of his cut in front to have a quick chat.
Neither saw the man approach Percy from behind with a predatory gaze. Something sharp was in his hand, a wicked grin on his face when Percy didn’t even flinch when his free hand came up to cover her mouth with the knife against her throat.
“Make a sound and I’ll cut you right here,” he whispered in her ear, unaware she was rolling her eyes. Thinking he had the upper hand he adds, “Now you’re gonna walk backward with me and turn around when I say—OW FUCK!!” Simultaneously Percy bit his hand and stomped his foot while her hand came up beneath the blade to pull his arm away. The sound alerted Rhett, his buddy, and another rider—all three snapping their gaze to witness Percy throw her head back against the man and flip him onto his back, taking his own knife in her hands to hold against his neck.
“Not so lucky now, huh?” She hissed, eyes blaring with fury that had the man nearly shit his pants. This was not the outcome he was expecting when he set his eyes on the pretty lady standing alone.
“Percy!” Rhett shouted, racing to his girlfriend who was seconds away from committing murder. He could see the knife in her hands and how close it was to the drifter's skin. One move and she would surely send him to meet his maker.
Others followed after him, one lady who was a barrel racer on the phone with 9-1-1, but Percy spoke for only the man to hear, “You were hoping to spill some blood tonight?” The question was rhetoric. It wasn’t her first rodeo dealing with scum. And this man was on a mission. If it hadn’t been her, it would’ve been another poor girl.
The drifter paled, pleading with her to take the knife away. How ironic……“I’m s-sorry! I-I—!”
“Blood will spill,” she smiled menacingly, onyx eyes staring into his soul. It was like looking the devil in the eyes, “But it’s going to be yours.” Then without hesitation, Percy brought the knife to his cheek and sliced it. Red liquid poured from the wound causing him to howl in pain. “Sleep with one eye open tonight.”
Rhett ran up to grab her while the other guys pinned the drifter down. “Baby,” he checked her for wounds, out of breath from running so fast. When he cupped her face to look at him, Rhett felt chills up his spine.
Her eyes were so dark he could hardly make out the pupils, and her face was void of emotion. Nothing but bloodlust was present.
It almost scared him to see her like that. Percy was normally warm in nature when it came to him. He’d never seen her so cold. How she appeared was likely how she was when she took revenge on Maria. It was a chilling scene.
But Rhett was more infuriated with the man getting handcuffed by the on duty officer at the rodeo who was waiting for backup. A nasty cut, courtesy of Percy, was on his face. It was so deep he was going to need stitches.
“You fuckin’ piece of shit,” Rhett went to approach but was held back by a few riders. “Think you can just threaten my woman like that? Ya lucky it’s only ya face that got sliced,” he pointed a finger at the bastard, “Knowing what you probably had planned I should’ve just let her finish you off. Lord knows she can and would have.” Rhett paused to spit on the drifter, “Bet you didn’t fuckin’ expect that, huh? Serves you right for tryin’ to do harm to a lady.”
The drifter was hauled into the back of a police car, Rhett going to Percy to take her in his arms. She wasn’t shaking or anything which concerned Rhett. Surely after being attacked she would be shaken to her core.
“I’m fine, darling,” It was like she could read his mind. “I’m right here. Nothing happened to me.”
His lips pressed against her head, “But somethin’ could’ve happened. That drifter tried to hurt you, Percy. I don’t care if it’s over with, that still scared the fuck outta me. I was right there and didn’t see the bastard walkin’ up to you.”
“I have good reflexes, Rhett Abbott,” she lightly teased, “I knew he was behind me. His smell was too overpowering.”
Tilting her jaw up, Rhett took a sharp breath. Though her smirk was teasing, her eyes told a different story. Glancing to the officer walking up to them, probably needing to take Percy’s statement, Rhett leaned in to whisper, “What’re you thinking right now?”
Percy remained collected, “Do you know what plausible deniability is?”
“I know it means to be willfully ignorant because you don’t know the actual details of something which can keep you from gettin’ in trouble.” Catching the shift in her expression Rhett adds, “Why?”
“Do you trust me?”
The officer was about fifteen steps away, but Percy kept her eyes on him, waiting for his answer. Rhett moved his lips to kiss the top of her cheekbone, “with my life.”
He didn’t know what she was cooking up for that drifter, but Rhett wanted nothing but for him to experience hell for what he tried to do. Percy smiled, though nothing about it was warm, “I’ve got it handled, darling. Don’t you worry.”
The next morning while Rhett was fixing to head to the barn he was stopped by Sheriff Joy, who looked at him with slight suspicion. “That drifter who attacked Persephone Addams last night was rushed to the hospital this morning.”
“What for?” He asked nonchalantly, shrugging his jacket on.
Joy leaned against the side of her vehicle. “Torture wounds. Pieces of his skin were flayed off, cigarette burns to his face, and it looked like he was bit by several venomous spiders. Black widows to be exact.” Rhett remained stoic, though part of him wished he could smirk.
Persephone Addams strikes again.
“I hear you and Addams are rather close.”
Rhett raised a brow, “yeah. And?” The whole damn town knew they were together.
“Would you mind telling me where you two went after last night’s incident?” Joy looked around to see if she could spot the Addams family car. “You two were seen leaving together.”
“What’s this gotta to do with what happened to that drifter, Sheriff?” Rhett saw her faultetr at his bluntness, but he wasn’t gonna let her come accusing them of something she had no proof of.
And he knew she didn’t have proof. Percy made sure of that.
Joy hesitated then said, “our security system was hacked into around three in the morning. None of our officers' key cards were used to get into the cell the drifter was held in and our night shift guard was rendered unconscious with chloroform. The system got back up at five just before the shift change. The guy claims he didn’t see who was torturing him—they blindfolded, bound, and gagged him before he could even react. Know anything—or someone who is capable of doing something like that?”
“Obviously not, sheriff,” Rhett scoffed, looking dead in her eyes. “Don’t really associate myself with those types of people. You know?”
“Look, Rhett,” Joy raised a hand, “I’m not trying to accuse you two of anything—.”
“Well it sure sounds like it.”
She made a face at the interruption, “but this drifter pulled a knife on your girl—who proceeded to give him a nasty cut when she shockingly managed to overpower him—.”
“She’s overpowered me plenty of times,” Rhett commented, biting back a smirk. “My baby knows a thing or two about self defense. Maybe she can teach your deputies a thing or two—.”
“My point,” she snaps with a glare, “is I know Persephone Addams has a thing for black widows and there’s rumors she’s done plenty to people who’ve wronged her. The drifter needed stitches with how deep she cut into him and I know all about what happened with Maria Olivares ten years ago.”
“Those charges were dropped, Joy,” Rhett interrupts, tone rising with anger. “It ain’t fair for you to be using that against Percy when you damn well know what Maria and the others did. And why the fuck are you faulting her for cuttin’ that drifter when he was fixin’ to kidnap her! If she hadn’t fought back who knows what the fuck could’ve happened or what if he chose some other poor girl as his target. A blind man could see what he was plannin’ to do,” Rhett shakes his head, “You’d be dealin’ with a whole different situation, Joy.”
That had her speechless, the officer bringing a hand up to caress her jaw. Rhett had a point and she knew it. But still, as much as she agreed with him and didn’t blame Percy for cutting the man last night, she was still an officer of the law. The drifter was tortured under their custody and they have no idea who did it. She had a job to do. “Rhett, I promise you nothing will come to Percy in regards to what happened at the rodeo. She was in the right and it was self defense, and the bastard is going to prison. But I just need to know where you two were after you left so I can clear you both.”
Rhett took a deep breath remaining silent. Then before she could ask what the fuck he was thinking Rhett removed his hat, jacket and began untucking his shirt. “Wha-what are you doing?”
“Showin’ you what we were up to last night when we got back,” the shirt was removed and Rhett turn to display the array of scratch marks on his back. The ones his lady were responsible for after they spent hours in bed. There were also some on his chest from when she was on top at times.
“Jesus Christ,” Joy looked away after getting a good look. “Why are you showing me that?”
Rhett shrugged, pulling the shirt back on. “Thought it was better than to say, ‘I fucked her on every surface until the sun rose and her voice was gone from how much she screamed,’. Or would that have been better for you, Sheriff?”
At that moment Joy received a text from her deputy saying Percy’s cell phone pinged at the tower closest to the Abbott ranch all night and there were no fingerprints left behind at the station that matched hers.
The deputy also relayed that when he stopped by the antique store for her alibi, that Percy showed him the various love bites courtesy of Rhett and that her voice was in fact hoarse that she could barely say words.
Yeah Joy didn’t have much to go with after that. She took her leave very quickly, but there was something about the whole situation that still left an odd feeling in her stomach. But unfortunately for her, there was no physical or even circumstantial evidence besides suspicion that would help her case.
One point, Persephone Addams.
Rhett hoped he’d never see that look of bloodlust in Percy’s eyes again, but knew if he did it was because the person her mind was set on deserved it. Seeing it at the dinner table of her family home proved that. Wednesday was planning something for Maria and the ones who played a key role in humiliating Persephone, something they sure would not be ready for.
Just like that drifter was not ready for what laid in store for him when he targeted the oldest Addams.
A coin is flipped when one meets a member of the Addams family. All they can do is pray it lands on the right side.

Myrna Loy - The Queen of Hollywood
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Myrna Loy (born Myrna Adele Williams in Helena, Montana on August 2, 1905 ) was an American actress who reigned as one of America’s leading movie stars in the 1930s and the 1940s. Millions of fans idolized her as ‘the perfect wife,’ a paragon of charm, sophistication and intelligence, earning her the title as "The Queen of Hollywood."
Of Welsh, Scottish, and Swedish ancestry, Loy moved to Culver City in her early teens. She first attended the exclusive Westlake School for Girls. When her teachers objected to her extracurricular participation in theater, her mother enrolled her in Venice High School.
To help the family, she wroked at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, where she performed in prologues, musical sequences that served as preliminary entertainment before the feature film. This led to work as an extra in Hollywood productions in 1925 and then a contract with Warner Bros. in 1926.
With the advent of sound films, she then became associated with musicals, and when they began to lose popularity, her career slumped. In 1934, after Loy's move to MGM, John Dillinger was shot to death after leaving a screening of her film Manhattan Melodrama (1934). She received widespread publicity, with some newspapers reporting that she had been Dillinger's favorite actress.
Loy gained further fame from the box office hit, The Thin Man (1934), which spawned five sequels. This marked a turning point in her career, and she was cast in more important pictures and became one of Hollywood's busiest and highest-paid actresses,
With the outbreak of World War II, Loy focused on the war effort, becoming an active member of the Hollywood Chapter of 'Bundles for Bluejackets,' helping run a Naval Auxiliary Canteen, going on fundraising tours, and volunteering for the Red Cross.
In the coming decades, she continued acting alongside her activism work. She organized opposition to the House Unamerican Activities Committee in Hollywood through radio broadcasts and petitions, worked with the federal government, and served in UNESCO.
In 1975, Loy was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent two mastectomies. She kept her diagnosis and subsequent treatment from the public. This resulted in her progressive retirement from acting; her last film performance was in 1980 and her last acting role on TV in 1982.
In failing health, Loy died at age 88 in a Manhattan hospital during surgery following a long, unspecified illness.
Legacy:
Received an Honorary Academy Award in 1991 in recognition of her life's work both onscreen and off
