Friend of the So Weird fandom Sacha Mullin hung out with Make Weird Music this month.
Sacha came to our attention a few years ago when he covered Jewel Staite/Callie Snow's "Questions" live with a band on stage. It was the first time we ever heard about a So Weird song being used in public.
He actually purchased some rights to have it recorded and his cover of "Questions" is on Spotify.
In his talk with Make Weird Music Sacha mentioned "Questions" (about 19 minutes in), So Weird (around the 52 minute mark) and its soundtrack.
It was Annmarie Cullen's work on So Weird that got his attention as a kid and eventually lead to him working with her on his recent release. You can hear Annmarie's vocals on the song Margaret.
Other mentions: covering an Alexz Johnson song and Mackenzie Phillips.
Thanks for spreading the So Weird love, Sacha!

EPISODE 5: TOR CLIENT
In the year 42069, humanity survives in the last livable place on Earth: the domed cyberpunk dystopia Sicko City. In Sicko City, all citizens are required to jack in to cyberspace every day to view and engage with content generated by “Posters,” mega-celebrities who live like gods. But beneath its shimmering surface, five forgotten people are about to make history...
Tor Client is a shaper. On their pirate streams, Tor evangelizes the revolutionary potential of the Internet. But how much transfiguring freedom is there on a platform that exists solely for state-mandated Posting? It’d take some kind of divine revelation for Tor to fully understand the potential of their ideology...

Chicago Fire Season 6 Ep. 3 "An Even Bigger Surprise"
Tumblr media
Lt. Casey and Sam Mullins, the temporary chief filling in for Boden, don't get along. Casey makes a risky move to save a man from jumping off a building. Mullins has a surprise for him.
If you want to watch the series for yourself, stop reading! This post contains spoilers to the storyline.
Lt. Kelly Severide is in the shower when Hope Jacquinot joins him. Stella calls for Kelly, saying it's time to work. Hope comes out in just his shirt. He tells Stella to go ahead; he'll meet her at the firehouse.
Lt. Matt Casey, Gabby Dawson, and Christopher Herrmann walk to the firehouse. They learn that Chief Boden won't be in for the first part of the shift and that the new chief is difficult. He says if they're not 15 minutes early, they're late. Chief Mullins says he respects Boden and is only there for the half of the shift. He hands out assignments to everyone but stops when Severide and Casey exchange looks. Casey says it's only half a shift. On Tuesdays, they do the side compartments of the rigs. Mullins learns who Casey is and adds more work, then dismisses them.
Matt apologizes, and Stella says not to worry. What could go wrong? Mouch says that's the question every Darwin winner asks. Herrmann says a friend who served under Mullins killed more careers in the CFD than actual fires. Casey says he doesn't want anything to look at. Gabby and Sylvie are called to a bicycle accident.
A driver hit a little girl named Ella. He said he didn't see her. He is worried about the little girl. When Gabby tells him to let them work, Ella asks if he is okay because he's grabbing his chest. Sylvie tell her not to worry about him, but when Ella says there is something wrong with him, they turn around as he falls to the ground. Gabby checks for a pulse and finds none. She calls for backup. Gabby shocks him as Sylvie comforts Ella. Gabby calls in and says they're taking both patients to Chicago Med.
Otis asks Mouch why he's whistling. He says he flew Leon Cruz in for Joe's birthday. Everyone is shocked because Leon moved out of state after fleeing the gang life. Mouch says he checked with his wife, Sgt. Trudy Platt, who assured him it would be safe. Otis thinks this is great. They just have to get Joe to Molly's after shift.
Stella smiles at Severide and says he slept with Hope. He says she knew what was on the table and is leaving today. Brett and Gabby are punished for breaking the rules and taking two patients at once. Matt says it was a judgment call, but it could lead to a lawsuit. Mullins takes them out of service and wants the paperwork on his desk before he leaves. He tells Matt to let him handle it unless there's something else for him.
Severide talks to Matt in his office, laughing and telling him to stay out of Mullins' way. Matt nods. Gabby and Sylvie are filling out paperwork and missing calls. Matt tries to tell Gabby to correct her writing, but she glares at him and he stops.
Paul Pogue arrives at the firehouse and says Cruz's brother Leon looks good. Cruz looks confused. He says he saw him with a lady cop this morning. Mouch gets him to stop talking. When Cruz calls his brother, Herrmann says it's time to come clean.
Severide talks to Casey. He says Mullins is on the short list to become Commissioner next summer. Severide says Matt should say something. Gabby tells him to fix this so she can do her job. Connie is organizing files for Mullins when Matt comes to see him. He gives them Gabby and Sylvie's reports and apologizes. Mullins interrupts Matt, saying he saw cigarette butts outside the door when he arrived. He wonders what kind of pride the house has and who would disrespect it. Matt is angry at the response to his apology. He's told Boden will be back in a couple of hours. Matt says "Hallelujah!"
The crew goes out on a call and finds a man on a roof ledge. Herrmann and Matt go to the top as the Chief arrives. CPD wants to talk to Matt. Matt says Dan is calm and is fine with whatever risk Matt wants to take. CPD talks to Matt as Herrmann drops ropes and lines. Gabby tells Mullins Matt is doing what he has to. CPD signals Matt, and Dan jumps. When Dan jumps, the rope wraps around him and throws him back onto the roof. Matt calls for paramedics. CPD praises Matt for his work. They take him to Chicago Med with a bruised back and high blood pressure. Mullins says hallelujah, but Matt says if he's worried about liability, he can take it.
Tumblr media
Boden tells Kelly into his office. Stella finds Hope at the firehouse. She says she's there to see Sylvie. Hope says people are tense. She tells Sylvie she had fun. Sylvie says she loved having her there. Hope gives Sylvie cookies from her mom. She says she'll see her again.
Matt is worried as Mouch says Mullin's naughty llist is not one to be on. Cruz says Mullins is gone. Everyone is relieved. Herrmann calls Mouch over without Cruz noticing. Leon is hiding in the cot room, and Mouch is upset that he's ruining the surprise. Stella and Herrmann agree with Leon. Cruz comes in and asks what's going on. Connie calls everyone to the bullpen.
Boden apologizes for being out and introduces them to Hope, the new firehouse member. Severide's mouth drops oepn when Stella looks at him. Hope follows Sylvie, saying she wanted the job on her own. She says the last few weeks in Chicago were amzing. She saw the job posting and wanted to apply. Sylvie wishes she told her, Sylvie is happy for Hope.
Stella comes to see Severide, who laughs and says there's wreckage everywhere. Gabby talks to Matt about Hope. Connie asks what they're saying. Connie wants Matt's incident reports and Mullins wants his personnel file. He hands them over as she says she just does what she's told. Cruz is worried that his brother Leon is avoiding him. He tells Otis and Mouch that something is wrong.
Dan's sister arrives at the firehouse. Matt tells Rachel Dan talked about her. She says they did an MRI on his back. She is happy he is alive, and Gabby offers her a seat. Rachel says the family knew he had problems and stopped therapy and his meds. She cries, saying Dan's will was in his pocket. She thanks them, saying they're her world. Gabby smiles at Matt when she leaves.
Cruz says he wants to talk to the gang about Leon. He says he'll come with Otis. Otis tells Mouch and Leon that Cruz wants to go to gang corners.
Connie calls Casey and Gabby into Boden's office. Mullins is there too. Boden wants to know what happened on the jumper call while he was away. Matt says it was a tough call, but he stands by it. Mullins says Boden is a great leader. He says the rope rescue was incredible and no firefighter would have done it. Matt put the victim first, even though he knew Mullins was on the scene and wanted him dead. Matt says all of Truck 81 did. He says he's a true leader and has recommended him for a promotion. Mullins and Matt shake hands. Matt doesn't know what to say. Boden says he has earned it. He wants to be the first to say, "Congratulations, Captain Casey." Severide hugs him.
Connie brings Hope into the room and says she'll be fine. Hope finds Severide walking down the hall. She says it's better to leave things as they were. She had a great time, but now that she is working there, she doesn't want it to be an issue. Severide laughs and agrees.
Cruz comes to Otis, who says he's working at Molly's. They have a reason to celebrate since Matt got promoted. Cruz will go if they look for Leon after work. Everyone is at Molly's. Severide talks to Stella, who he says is paranoid. Hope says it's not a thing. Stella sees Mouch, Otis, and Cruz coming. Cruz tries to get out of it, but Otis convinces him with a deal. Cruz is surprised they had a party for him. Mouch says there's a bigger surprise because Leon is there, but he isn't there when they call for him. Cruz is upset. He thinks it's a joke. Cruz says he knows what Mouch did, and Leon appears. Leon and Joe say you can't mess with the Cruz brothers. Otis was worried about the gang visit because he helped Mouch. Cruz says this is amazing and thanks Mouch. Mouch says it's the least he could do.
Cruz yells, "Buy one, get one free all night!" Connie asks Sylvie at the bar if she knew Hope stole ten grand from her last boss.

NOTES: Beautiful HD capture of one of the Final Dress Rehearsals. Top notch production and thrilling performances from Alice, Keaton, and the whole cast! This is quite a unique capture since it was the first time the blood was dropped. Too many amazing things to point out here, don't miss this one!!! A+ Well filmed with a nice mix of close-ups and full stage shots and no obstructions. Based on the revised Off-Broadway version, and presented at the Balagan Theatre. Because this was recorded at the final run-through prior to opening night, there are a few “holds” as they worked out any kinks: * After “Evening Prayers” there is a hold to change all microphone batteries, resulting in most of the song being run a second time (the sound check was removed and put as a bonus at the end of act two). * During the scene where Carrie is getting ready for the prom a microphone made a "farting" noise and Alice grabbed her butt and said "sorry" which made the cast and tech crew laugh.
Carrie: The Musical - Seattle - October 13, 2013 (Pro-Shot's master)
FORMAT:  MP4 (SD)
CAST: Keaton Whittaker (Carrie White), Alice Ripley (Margaret White), Larissa Schmitz (Sue Snell), Kody Bringman (Tommy Ross), Tessa Archer (Chris Hargensen), Andrew Brewer (Billy Nolan), Kendra Kassebaum (Lynn Gardner), Brian Lange (Mr. Stephens), Erin Herrick (Norma), Melissa Maricich (Frieda), Frederick Habreen (George), Riley Neldham (Freddy), Alexandria Henderson (Helen), Eli Wills (Stokes)

Carrie: The Musical - Stagedoor Manor - July 31, 1999
FORMAT:  MP4 (SD)
CAST: Julie Kleiner (Carrie White), Vivienne Cleary (Margaret White), Nina Sturtz (Miss Gardner), Kaily Smith (Chris), Erin Evers (Sue), Blair Late (Tommy)
NOTES: Another abridged version. Video suffers from gen loss but has cleaned up decently. Piano is the only instrument in the orchestra, and it drowns out some of the singers. This has been incorrectly labelled as an authorized production, which is incorrect - this was an unauthorized production (e.g., no rights were secured before the production), though Gore (and Cohen) were in the audience of this performance and chose not to sue Jeff Murphy and Stagedoor over copyright infringement, partly because Gore said he had always wanted to see the show done with actual teenagers (reported by Jeff Murphy, the director).
Carrie: The Musical - Stratford-Upon-Avon - February 16, 1988 (Preview) (Pro-Shot's master)
FORMAT:  MP4 (SD)
CAST: Linzi Hateley (Carrie White), Barbara Cook (Margaret White), Sally Ann Triplett (Sue Snell), Paul Gyngell (Tommy Ross), Charlotte d'Amboise (Chris Hargensen), Gene Anthony Ray (Billy Nolan), Darlene Love (Lynn Gardner)
NOTES: Filmed professionally for the RSC archives on the third night of the performance (February 16, 1988). Shot from first row mezzanine center with no obstructions with audio taken directly from the soundboard. Mostly a full stage shots without zooms. This is usually incorrectly labelled as "Opening Night (February 13, 1988)", which is incorrect, as on opening night, Barbara Cook was almost decapitated right after the set changes from "Don't Waste The Moon", which not seen in this video (also verified by the person who copied this from the archives).

Act One starts when Judy sings a version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow (same tune but with different lyrics). Act Two starts part way through the number right before they enter the MGM studio. The Cher Show - Broadway - April, 2019 (StarCuffedJeans's master)

NOTES: Beautiful HD close-ups but some long drop-outs and quite a few obstructed scenes. The rake in the mezzanine at the Neil Simon kinda stinks and I'm pretty sure the ushers were playing flashlight tag with each other the entire show. but I began to care a lot less as the night went on Video is very Cher-centric...choreography in "Dark Lady" is captured beautifully, but for the rest of the show I was mostly focused on getting those Stephanie, Teal, and Micaela zooms. We start at the scene before "Half Breed" and when Stephanie tells everyone to stand up for the finale it's all over for my filming ability.

Newly surfaced video which is a HUGE improvement over the previous version which has been in circulation for a while. This is also complete and includes the opening announcement alerting the audience that the show is being filmed. Amazing quality, but still has a little generational loss. In black and white. The DVD has been enhanced with chapter stops for all of the musical numbers. This, along with the tapes of Crazy for You and Passion, is amongst the only three TOFT tapes that have been leaked.

NOTES: HD capture of the Australian company of this fantastic musical. Includes a video of a post-show Q&A with the cast in honour of the 18th anniversary of September 12. Shot from the back row of the dress circle, so a head blocks the centre at times but it’s shot around where possible. Most noticeable in the group numbers where a lot of the action is downstage. The first 4 minutes or so is mostly wandering shots as I was setting up my camera and evading ushers. A lot of great close-ups - Zoe’s “Me and the Sky” is a highlight.

NOTES: As far as I know, the first ever video of the Toronto production! I had the entire show in VOB format ready to post but, unfortunately, I lost the USB it was on in the middle of an airport. Luckily I was able to salvage all but thirty minutes of the original footage, so all that's lost is part of the scene after "I Am Here" and a portion of "Somewhere In The Middle Of Nowhere". If you find a USB the size of a thumbnail around Pearson, it's a $5 reward! A flu passed around the cast that they were all just recovering from, and at one point you can see Bev take a tissue out of her pilot's jacket and blow her nose. It explains the large number of understudies on, particularly of interest is that of the role of Hannah being played by a Caucasian actress, which causes her absence for the bus scene and leads to a severely different dynamic I'd not seen the character played as before.

NOTES: The bottom left of the video is slightly obstructed by a lighting rail. The master accidentally stop recording during '38 Planes' but realized right away so it’s only missing a second or two. Some nice close-ups. Clive misses the cue for the first “Welcome to the Rock!”

NOTES: My first video ever. I couldn’t see what I was filming so the camera has a tendency to film upward toward the ceiling. You can hear me laugh pretty loudly since I was holding the camera close to my face.

Five's Diary
Season 1 Part 1
Distraction
Today's run was with Runner 6. The gates were broken, so we were tasked to distract the zombies. We lead them to New Canton. She does not trust me. And for a good reason, if I were in her position, I too would be suspicious of the circumstances I had arrived at Abel in. It makes me trust her more. It shows she is reliable.
Also, Sam is fucking funny.
Lay of the Land
Runner 7 showed me around today. He had also informed me that several people in Abel were wary of taking me in. Skoobs had also had a visitor from Mullins Military Base just before the fire, which destroyed the settlement, a fact which seems to arouse suspicions at Abel.
I had heard about the Skoobs incident, I thought it was odd back then, but now, after everything, I am even more suspicious.
I asked Sam about it later, he doesn't seem to find me suspicious.
A Lost Child
I was Molly again. Met Ed. Apperarnyl Becca got turned.
On the bright side, I got fuel, so Radio Abel is back on. Really happy about that; their taste in music isn't exactly mine. Honestly, I just miss Hindi songs. I miss home
Paul Revere
Today felt great. I felt like I was in the army again. There was a horde at Brunswick, their communication was down, so I had to camp by camp, warning people. I was a soldier again.
I couldn't go back to Abel though I have to shelter at the barricades with Runner 8 overnight. She doesn't seem to trust me still, but I don't think she will jump me while sleeping.
Supply Run + A Voice in the Dark
I AM BACK! I have never been more terrified. I had gone out on a supply run to New Canton. Turns out that was a fucking trap. Then my mic broke. Sam thought I was dead. Found out a lot about his previous life. Turns out is dad is a lot like mama. He used to be an engineering student. He was with me the whole time, even though he thought I was probably dead. He was tired and scared. I am his 4th runner five. I am safe now. He stayed with me for a bit in the hospital wing. We talked. I told him a bit about my family life.
(side note from the author: in my 5am a story, this is where Sam first realises he likes 5)
The Old Mill
Went to collect meds. Met this NC ran who just got bit. Also, I keep on collecting these things related to Netrophil. When Rajit mentioned it, I brushed it off too quickly. I went through their Twitter and emailed the addresses I found. They seem weird. There is no other way to explain it. Are they a cult? But it seems to be much more than a cult. They claim to control minds. I usually brush things like these off, but this seems too real.
Die Rise
I went to New Oban. Hamila asked for help; that place had turned into a dictatorship. Turns out one of the head staff killed the rest of the staff took over and invited a bunch of zoms in to "teach the people". They were brainwashing the kids. You can't make this shit up. Also, Neha was in New Canton prison for throwing out her trash too late. It was great catching up with her again
Recovery
Went to the crash site today. Sara finally trusts me. I think. She doesn't seem the type to trust, but neither am I. But finally, finally, FINALLY, she mentioned the project green shoot. Sam has asked me to come over later.
Also, I found a new netrophil email. They were trying to wipe minds. All this sounds fake. Straight out of a shitty sci-fi novel, but then again, I write this in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
...
I like Sam. I have a proper crush on him. No. Jesus motherfuck. I have Sid, a boyfriend. I cant. I feel guilty. Even though I am not sure whether or not he is alive. But he has to be. I cant lose someone like that again. But I can't like Sam either. It is like cheating. I don't cheat. But he is so kind and sweet and amazing and brilliant and funny. He is still mourning Alice.

FICS I’VE READ THIS WEEK (5)
Can I really continue this throughout the hiatus? I might. Maybe. lol.
Anyway - this is my handy dandy list of what I’ve been reading this week. I read a fic by a new author - and then proceeded to read a ton of her work because it was so much fun - so that may have inflated the numbers a bit. But I’m not sorry - they were super fun Reylo “fake dating” fics and there are never enough of those.
As always, this list doesn’t count:
many of the fics I read on tumblr that don’t have Ao3 links
the chapters I’m beta reading (3 chapters)
the fics I’ve saved to my devices to reread.
or any of the fics I skim for the @blueandgoldoffice (not the same as reading).
If I’ve just read a newly updated chapter, I’ll make note. If I read the whole fic, I’ll indicate how many chapters I read this week.
Week 1 (119 chapters)
Week 2 (158 chapters)
Week 3 (81 chapters)
Week 4 (98 chapters)
Week 5 (117 chapters)
This is my list for the week of May 15 to May 21st under the cut.

LIZ THE MATCHMAKER
November 18, 1949
Tumblr media
“Liz The Matchmaker” (aka “Katie and Mr. Negley”) is episode #63 of the radio series MY FAVORITE HUSBAND broadcast on November 18, 1949.
Synopsis ~ After dating Mr. Negley the postman for three years, Katie feels that their relationship is not going anywhere, so she enlists Liz's help!
This was the 12th episode of the second season of MY FAVORITE HUSBAND. There were 43 new episodes, with the season ending on June 25, 1950.
Tumblr media
Although similarly titled and themed, this radio episode is not the basis for the “I Love Lucy” episodes “Lucy Plays Cupid” (ILL S1;E15), “Lucy is a Matchmaker” (ILL S2;E27), “The Matchmaker” (ILL S4;E4), or “Lucy, the Matchmaker” (HL S1;E12) in 1968. Safe to say that meddling in the romantic affairs of others was a trait of all of the Lucy characters!
Tumblr media
“My Favorite Husband” was based on the novels Mr. and Mrs. Cugat, the Record of a Happy Marriage (1940) and Outside Eden (1945) by Isabel Scott Rorick, which had previously been adapted into the film Are Husbands Necessary? (1942). “My Favorite Husband” was first broadcast as a one-time special on July 5, 1948. Lucille Ball and Lee Bowman played the characters of Liz and George Cugat, and a positive response to this broadcast convinced CBS to launch “My Favorite Husband” as a series. Bowman was not available Richard Denning was cast as George. On January 7, 1949, confusion with bandleader Xavier Cugat prompted a name change to Cooper. On this same episode Jell-O became its sponsor. A total of 124 episodes of the program aired from July 23, 1948 through March 31, 1951. After about ten episodes had been written, writers Fox and Davenport departed and three new writers took over – Bob Carroll, Jr., Madelyn Pugh, and head writer/producer Jess Oppenheimer. In March 1949 Gale Gordon took over the existing role of George’s boss, Rudolph Atterbury, and Bea Benaderet was added as his wife, Iris. CBS brought “My Favorite Husband” to television in 1953, starring Joan Caulfield and Barry Nelson as Liz and George Cooper. The television version ran two-and-a-half seasons, from September 1953 through December 1955, running concurrently with “I Love Lucy.” It was produced live at CBS Television City for most of its run, until switching to film for a truncated third season filmed (ironically) at Desilu and recasting Liz Cooper with Vanessa Brown.
MAIN CAST
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball (Liz Cooper) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. With Richard Denning, she starred in a radio program titled “My Favorite Husband” which eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon.
Richard Denning (George Cooper) was born Louis Albert Heindrich Denninger Jr., in Poughkeepsie, New York. When he was 18 months old, his family moved to Los Angeles. Plans called for him to take over his father’s garment manufacturing business, but he developed an interest in acting. Denning enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He is best known for his  roles in various science fiction and horror films of the 1950s. Although he teamed with Lucille Ball on radio in “My Favorite Husband,” the two never acted together on screen. While “I Love Lucy” was on the air, he was seen on another CBS TV series, “Mr. & Mrs. North.” From 1968 to 1980 he played the Governor on “Hawaii 5-0″, his final role. He died in 1998 at age 84.
Ruth Perrott (Katie, the Maid) was also later seen on “I Love Lucy.” She first played Mrs. Pomerantz, a member of the surprise investigating committee for the Society Matrons League in “Pioneer Women” (ILL S1;E25), as one of the member of the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League in “Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress” (ILL S3;E3), and also played a nurse when “Lucy Goes to the Hospital” (ILL S2;E16). She died in 1996 at the age of 96.
Bob LeMond (Announcer) also served as the announcer for the pilot episode of “I Love Lucy”. When the long-lost pilot was finally discovered in 1990, a few moments of the opening narration were damaged and lost, so LeMond – fifty years later – recreated the narration for the CBS special and subsequent DVD release.
Gale Gordon (Rudolph Atterbury) and Bea Benadaret (Iris Atterbury) do not appear in this episode.
GUEST CAST
Tumblr media
Jay Novello (Mr. Negley, Postman) appeared on “I Love Lucy” as superstitious Mr. Merriweather in “The Seance" (ILL S1;E7), Mario the gondolier in “The Visitor from Italy” (ILL S6;E5), and nervous Mr. Beecher in “The Sublease” (ILL S3;E31). He also appeared on two episodes of “The Lucy Show,” but Novello is probably best remembered for playing Mayor Lugatto on “McHale’s Navy” in 1965.
Tumblr media
Frank Nelson (Police Officer) was born on May 6, 1911 (three months before Lucille Ball) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He started working as a radio announcer at the age of 15. He later appeared on such popular radio shows as “The Great Gildersleeve,” “Burns and Allen,” and “Fibber McGee & Molly”.  Aside from Lucille Ball, Nelson is perhaps most associated with Jack Benny and was a fifteen-year regular on his radio and television programs. His trademark was playing clerks and other working stiffs, suddenly turning to Benny with a drawn out “Yeeeeeeeeees?” Nelson appeared in 11 episodes of “I Love Lucy”, including three as quiz master Freddy Fillmore, and two as Ralph Ramsey, plus appearance on “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” - making him the only actor to play two different recurring roles on “I Love Lucy.” Nelson returned to the role of the frazzled Train Conductor for an episode of “The Lucy Show” in 1963. This marked his final appearance on a Lucille Ball sitcom.
Tumblr media
Rolfe Sedan (Malt Shop Waiter) first worked with Lucille Ball in the 1934 film Kid Millions. When Lucy Ricardo ate snails in “Paris at Last” (ILL S5;E18), Sedan played the Chef who was outraged that Lucy wants to put ketchup on his food. He is probably best remembered as Mr. Beasley the mailman on “The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show.”
EPISODE
ANNOUNCER: “As we look in on the Coopers it’s morning and Liz and George are at the breakfast table.”
Tumblr media
George spits out his eggs and wonders why his breakfast is so badly cooked. Liz says that Katie’s romance with Mr. Negley the mailman is not going well, so she’s distracted. Even the toast is burned!
Liz tells says she wants to help bring the maid and the mailman together but George warns her to stay out of it!  Instead, George wants to warn Mr. Negley that Katie is trying to get a “wedlock headlock” on him! George makes Liz promise not to meddle, no matter how difficult it is.
In the kitchen, Katie is crying and singing: “I gotta right to sing the blues. I got a right to moan and cry.”
Tumblr media
"I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues" is a popular song with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by Ted Koehler, published in 1932 for the Broadway show Earl Carroll's Vanities (1932) starring Milton Berle. The song became a jazz and blues standard. Popular recordings were by Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holliday.
Liz comes up with a loophole about her promise to not get involved in Katie’s romance: she will just listen, while Katie talks.  Katie says that she and Mr. Negley go on several dates a week to the drive-in movie. Unfortunately, he drives a motorcycle. They also go to the park, where Mr. Negley plays canasta with the cop on the beat. Mr. Negley lives at the YMCA so she has no hopes of being invited over to dinner. Liz comes up with the idea to take George out to a movie that night, so that Katie and Mr. Negley will have the Cooper living room all to themselves.
Mr. Negley arrives to deliver the morning mail. Katie is too nervous to ask him to come over that evening, so Liz agrees to do it for her.
LIZ: “I thought I was Mr. Anthony, now I’m John Alden.”
Tumblr media
Mr. Anthony (aka John J. Anthony) was the pseudonym of Lester Kroll, who from 1937 to 1953 dispensed marital advice on the radio through “The Good Will Hour”, later renamed “The John J. Anthony Hour.”
Tumblr media
In "The Courtship of Miles Standish" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow John Alden was asked by his friend, Miles Standish, to act as matchmaker for him with Priscilla Mullins. Priscilla made the classic response "Why don't you speak for yourself, John?"
Mr. Negley finally agrees to the date and merrily goes off singing “Some enchanted evening, you will see a stranger...”
Tumblr media
"Some Enchanted Evening" is a show tune from the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific. It has been described as "the single biggest popular hit to come out of any Rodgers and Hammerstein show."  Billboard Chart Records for “Some Enchanted Evening” in 1949 alone included Ezio Pinza (#7), Perry Como (#1), Frank Sinatra (#6), and Bing Crosby (#3).
That evening, Liz and George are at the movies. George wants to leave, but she must keep George out till 11:30 and it is only 9:30!  Liz pretends to lose a shoe, which George dutifully searches for in the darkened theatre to no avail.
Tumblr media
At 10:15, Liz and George are at the malt shop and Liz keeps ordering to kill time, despite getting gradually sick to her stomach. The Malt Shop waiter (Rolfe Sedan) tempts her with an “Eagles Nest”.
WAITER: “It has a base of pound cake and macaroon. On top of that, a scoop of mocha, black walnut, pistachio, peppermint, burnt almond, and tutti-frutti.  And then a layer of whipped cream. A layer of chopped nuts. A layer of marshmallows. A layer of cherries. And then you flood the whole thing with hot fudge!”
Liz’s stomach churns!
Tumblr media
They drive home. It is a quarter to eleven. Liz blurts out that they can’t go in until 11:30. She makes George promise not to mad, and tells him the truth. He breaks his promise. Liz reminds him that in their courtship, it would be blissful to stay in the car an extra half hour with Liz, but that was a long time ago. He tries to kiss her, but logistics interfere.
GEORGE: “That’s funny. I can’t turn around. The steering wheel’s in the way. In the old days the cars were built different.” LIZ: “In the old days, the stomach was built different.”
Liz and George manage a smooch - one that lasts until 12:30!
Tumblr media
Liz wants to be sure Mr. Negley is gone, so she peers through the living room window.  A policeman (Frank Nelson) is watching them and wants to know what they are doing. He doesn’t believe they are the homeowners or that they were in the car smooching, not staking out the place!  He hauls them down to the police station!
At 4:30 in the morning, George and Liz finally get home, exhausted from their ordeal. A worried Katie greets them. It turns out something came up and Mr. Negley didn’t come over after all!
LIZ: “Oh, no!!!”

So I see people do this in the community so I though I’d give it a shot!
My Runner Five:
She’s 5’5-5’6
Brown hair, light blue eyes
Of Danish & Native American heritage
Was a track and XC runner in high school and in college
Kept switching majors in college because she wants to do so many things but can’t find the one that fits
From America, New England specifically
No she won’t say “Pahk yah cah”
Was at Oxford for literature when the apocalypse started
Went to Mullins for help but when they found her personal file ended up being recruited.
No idea if her family is alive or not, often causes her a lot of grief, along with the fact that she had to kill her own friends to escape the dorms
Really loves Brie Puffs, Dumplings, Alfredo Pasta, and Mac N Cheese
When she came to Abel she was really quiet, like someone hit a reset button on her personality.
Past: thoughtful, humble, talkative, friendly, kinda awkward, kind, and eccentric.
Present: thoughtful, quiet, sad, shy, kind, but broken.
Five instantly took a shine to Sam, and also really likes Runner 7 (he reminds her of her dad).
She feels like Sara is the older sister she never had, seeing she was the oldest of three kids back in America
Helps Meyers and Janine whenever they need it, she likes to fix things and help people when she can.
Enjoys being useful. Five used to fix things with her dad all the time at home, they were constantly taking care of rental properties and their old colonial farmhouse
Their house was in awful condition and they were constantly improving it as a family: painting, scraping, digging, putting up fences, interior design, grouting the showers, etc.
It was real fixer upper
So now Five uses that to fix up the base, and being the oldest was used to constantly helping her siblings and being extremely responsible, so she helps Seven and Janine when she can.....(almost like she replaced them as parents to help out).
Not good with kids.
Well she would be if she wasn’t so scared of them. But she really likes Molly and gets along with her to Ed’s relief
Scared of: uncertainty, drowning, burning to death, and wasps.
Loved Westerns, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Rom-Coms, and Dramas. As long as it has a good plot.
Favorite Movies: 3:10 to Yuma, Interstellar, and Pacific Rim.
Favorite Books: The Martian, Odd Thomas, Arendel, The Merciful Crow...
Collected plants, vinyls and small statues
Was a HUGE nerd. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Marvel (stand-alones only), Hetalia, Ghibli, Legend of Zelda, and Naruto
Hobbies: Sketching, Painting, Philosophy, Gardening, Writing, Birding, Historian, Running, Photography and did LOTS of Theatre shows
Loved: Hozier, Alt-J, State Radio, Cavetown, Imagine Dragons, Mumford & Sons, and Panic! At The Disco, Johnny Cash, Kenny Rodgers, My Chemical Romance...
But listened to anything from Folk-Pop to Punk to Lofi to Jazz to Classic Country
Was invested in Model UN, theatre, and running at her school
But without all that, without multiple facets of life, Five just feels so lost. She’s so stuck inside herself, she doesn’t know what to do with herself, and feels like all the work she did was for nothing.
Suffered from depression and anxiety in patches, but now it’s back more than ever.
Shows up at Radio Abel or at Sam’s door to listen to the runners out on Mission or the radio transmissions when she gets too deep.
Keeps more to herself than she likes, but after A Voice in The Dark, she and Sam become closer to the point where they can have conversation without her even talking.
A Voice In The Dark was when Sam first heard her voice....
He wish he hadn’t.
