I'm visiting Minnesota for the first time outside of the airport this year and I recall you posting a bit about that state. Any recs of cool things to do/ good places to eat in the Twin Cities?
OMG yess exciting!! I grew up right in that area :))
I'll add what I can think of off the top of my head, but maybe some of my other MN moots can chime in? @3friesshortofahappymeal
I'll start with the big ones, then scale it down a bit :)
The Mall of America, for sure. I know it's a typical tourist attraction but it really is quite spectacular and worth a short trip. Sometimes there are cool concerts and events going on in the Rotunda (they have a list here), and if you've ever been shopping and thought, hmm I could go for a rollercoaster right about now, then the MoA's got you covered :) Also, I haven't been but my brother says the Fly Over America exhibit is AMAZING
Minnesota Zoo!! I haven't been there since my childhood, but they used to have this treetop rail which I think they replaced with a walkway. Either way, it's fantastic, very informative, super adorable!
The Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul!! Seriously one of my FAVORITE places ever. There's an omni-theater, which is worth the trip in itself. The exhibits are top tier, tons of interactive stuff for adults, and it takes FOREVER to get through it, so you know it's worth the admission price :)
Stillwater is about a 30 minute drive from the Cities, but it's incredible if you want to do some light hiking and visit some cute shops!
I've never actually been to the Minneapolis Institute of Art, but it's a top destination if you have the time/interest for it!
Depends on what time of year you're visiting, but you have your pick of lakes to swim in (or paddleboard, rent a boat, lay on the sand and get burned by the sun, etc) Some favorites are Long Lake, Wayzata Beach, Silver Lake, and White Bear Lake Park!
There are some super nice walking paths around the Stone Arch Bridge
The Mill City Museum is worth a visit if you're a huge nerd like me :) It's a great little peek into Minnesota history and culture!
The Guthrie Theater for SURE, especially the yellow tinted room a couple floors up. Iconic MN spot!
Asia Mall in Eden Prairie! You can get some top tier boba there
If you have time to drive a little further north, I personally love the Albertville outdoor shopping mall. They're all outlet stores, and it's enormous and a really nice area.
Again, I've never been but The Armory always has some kind of events/small scale concerts going on. I think my brother saw The Band CAMINO there a couple years ago :)
Sadly I'm way less educated on restaurants in the area :( I know the Maple Grove area has tons of elite spots, and you really can't go wrong around the downtown area around the US Bank Stadium.
That said, just a couple places I do know of--
Fogo de Chao in Minneapolis
Henhouse Eatery in Minneapolis
Teppanyaki Grill in Fridley
Hoagie's Family Restaurant in Hopkins
Also, just a side note, if you have a day or two to spare, I'd HIGHLY recommend a trip up toward Duluth and the North Shore. In my opinion that's the most gorgeous place in all of MN.
Again, MN moots feel free to chime in!! I haven't lived in the Twin Cities area the last couple years and now I'm moving back soon, so I'm a little out of touch hahaha, especially after covid :)
I hope this helps!! Have an AWESOME time, and definitely let me know how the trip goes!!! <3 I love MN, it has so much to offer <33

Nathaniel Keaton Delmore was born into the Delmore empire, a leading chemical company in the United States. Being part of the one-percent had a singular perk: never having to worry about money. Nate learned pretty quickly that this was where its benefits stopped. He was the second of the Delmore children, and his mother never let him forget it. While she had reluctantly taken time off to care for his older sister, Samantha Marion Delmore, they waited until she was eight before they had him and more often than not they left Sammy to take care of him as if he was part living doll and part puppy. Developmentally it delayed him in walking because he was either carried or strolled around. It had also resulted in a stammer that was made worse by his parents' frustrations in his inability to articulate words correctly. Though he would overcome those issues with no little to no trace it left him with anxiety and a fragile sense of self.
He learned that if he kept good grades and kept his head down there wasn’t really anything his parents wouldn’t let him try. Anything he showed a natural talent for they supported until he was no longer the best in show, once again treating him more like a pet than a person. Be it piano, singing, basketball, horseback riding, or fencing; Nathaniel found himself having to find his own way. In high school, when his interests turned to debate and forensics teams because of a friend, his parents tried to put their foot down. Despite the lack of a stammer, they told him he’d be no good at it, seeing their quiet son as damaged once more. It was with his uncle’s support that he managed to make excuses and even attend summer camps. Public speaking became a way for him to face his anxiety and, with practice, he became unbelievably good at it.
With no support for college unless he legally agreed to major in microeconomics, Nathaniel finally left home to experience a slice of the real world. MIT was practically an entirely new planet for him and, despite being low key, there was really no surprise that people figured out who he was with the last name of a major American business. Just when he thought he was settling into a routine after a few years at MIT with a bartending job (much to his parents’ dismay), a co-captain position on the forensics team, and a close group of friends, he was kidnapped, tortured, and held for ransom.
After his rescue, Nathaniel would find the hardest part of the ordeal being the realization that no one knew he was missing for weeks. His job thought the rich kid had quit, though he never flaunted his money other than picking up the tabs shitty people cut out on. His friends thought he was sleeping with ‘that one girl’ that kept flirting with him at every party, though he swore there wasn’t anything there- just lending an ear to a heartbroken friend. His professors’ T.A.s were too overwhelmed to note his absences in the large classes. Then the forensics team thought his parents had finally pulled the plug on his participation because he’d divulged that they never really supported it when they didn’t attend any of the big competitions.
Through physical therapy his body healed from the torture, even though the scars remain. Concerned that therapy would look bad for the family they decided to allow him a service dog that was discretely trained and, after a hefty donation to the university and NDA paperwork, Sirius was allowed to follow him into his classes and any place around campus. Trying his best, the rest of his college experience was very much left in recluse. He took to reading and running to clear his head and avoid the reality that upon graduation he would be stepping into the CFO position of Delmore, Inc. Life seemed to be filled with dread outside of the travel the job would entail.
Managing to coerce his parents into agreeing to a masters, he delayed the inevitable a bit longer. Now, a decade later, he was settled into the monotony of corporate life and after Sirius passed and he took on a new service dog with the refusal to hide that part of his life any longer. It wasn’t lost on him that Samantha’s pep talk to do so likely stemmed from her own desire to climb the corporate ladder. The result was the same, his parents used him as the mouthpiece for the company’s charity work. They called the dog Cosimo, he called him Cosmo. They called him a survivor, he held his tongue that they’d treated him just as poorly.
Through it all, Nate remained dutiful, loyal, reserved; if not a bit more inclined to speak out against injustices than the average person. However, with his parents' continued puppeting of his life, Nathaniel began to see even the smallest work trips or public conversations with friends photographed in tabloids. Though they were reluctant, they let Nate take a step back, doing what he could for the company virtually or with quarterly business trips. He’s altogether disappeared from his city life, instead training as a ranger for a national park and putting himself first for the first time in his life. The introvert can only hope that there will be some peace in his move to Colorado.

CHARACTER INFORMATION
face claim: Alex Fitzalan
full name: Chandler Linwood
nickname(s) / goes by: Chandler, Chan
pronouns & gender: cis man, he/him
sexuality: biromantic asexual
birth date: February 11th, 1997
birth place: Minneapolis, Minnesota
arrival to merrock: 2022
housing: the suburbs
occupation: freelance photographer, employee/barista at Pause for Paws
work place: Pause for Paws
family: John Linwood, Susan Linwood (parents, both still live in Minnesota)
relationship status: single
PERSONALITY
If you had to describe Chandler in one phrase, it could easily be "trust issues". He's not a bad person, but he's happy to let people assume the worst about him and roll with that reputation. It's the best way he knows to protect himself. It's not that he tries to act edgy or like a completely unlikeable jerk, but more that he keeps a wall between himself and most people. Sometimes that means sharpening his sarcastic nature into a weapon, but often times it results in more of a laid back, apathetically sarcastic presence. Find some common ground with him and his defenses will seem to lower, and you'll find yourself talking to a much kinder version of him. He can count on one hand the amount of people he feels he can fully be himself around. Those 'lucky' few will receive wild video game/cartoon conspiracies, unhinged memes at three in the morning, and random tupperware containers of delicious food he's made too much of. After nearly a year of living in Merrock, he's just now starting to believe that he's finally on stable ground in his life, but he still has a strong self-sabotaging streak that he's willfully and stubbornly oblivious to.
WRITTEN BY: Elle (she/her), est.
BACKGROUND / BIO
tw: alcoholism, vague mental illness, implied abuse, brief mentions of death
Chandler was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to John and Susan Linwood. Although his earliest years were spent living in the city, almost all of his childhood memories were made at the family's next home in the suburb of Wayzata. His mom was an ER doctor, and his dad had a cushy office job (although he didn't have the passion for his career that Susan did). On the outside, they were the all around perfect American dream family. But reality is never that simple, and things were quite different behind closed doors. Between Susan's long hours at the hospital, and John's nasty habit of getting wasted every night, Chandler had to grow up fast. One thing his mom impressed on him from a young age was not to tell anyone what was happening at home or reach out for help. This led to a general distrust of authority figures and a lot of acting out at school.
By the time Chandler was a teenager, things at home had deteriorated even more. He wasn't sure how much of that was his parents actually getting worse, and how much of that was him growing up and being able to understand what 'normal' was supposed to look like. It wasn't that they didn't love him, and he knew he was at least lucky to know they truly cared about him. But he realized more and more that they were simply two people who never should have started a family, especially not with each other.
It wasn't until college that Chandler learned about asexuality, so he spent a lot of high school confused. He had always been romantically and aesthetically attracted to every gender. But when his friends would talk about sex, he couldn't relate to what they were saying. Surely, people didn't just look at each other and think 'I wanna fuck that person', or obsess over sex the way they claimed to...right? He spent most of high school trying to feel the way everyone else did. He thought if he just slept with the right person, it would all click into place. It never did. But he did develop quite the reputation for sleeping around and drinking too much at parties. The second thing was the only way he could really escape Wayzata at the time, but he had a plan. Get into a good, out of state college and never look back. Most people assumed he didn't really take his studies seriously, that he had somehow gotten into mostly AP classes by coasting. But he was balancing taking care of his parents, mountains of homework and keeping up a crazy social life like he was constantly walking some kind of tightrope all while acting like nothing phased him.
It paid off when the acceptance letters started coming in. Chandler chose a school that was far enough away from his parents to avoid getting sucked back into Wayzata. He refused to be a sad pop punk song about some angsty kid who never escaped their hometown. When he got to college, Chandler quickly realized he had never thought that far ahead. He had no idea what he wanted to major in, or do with his life now. He realized part of him never expected to succeed in leaving Minnesota behind. At the same time he was struggling to find interest in his school work, he found his life revolving around college parties. He reasoned to himself that this is exactly what college kids were supposed to do; drink too much several times a week and then go to class exhausted the next day.
It only took him a couple years to spiral out of control. After meeting a girl at a party, they hit it off and got serious pretty quickly. She had her own issues that didn't mix well with his own. At her insistence, he dropped out of college (he was still aimlessly drifting around campus taking gen-ed classes without being any closer to figuring out what his major should be). After that, he was extremely isolated and his whole life revolved around her. Their relationship became more toxic and by the time Chandler realized he needed to leave, he no longer knew how to. So he stayed with her for a awhile longer, relying on drinking and other self destructive habits to numb himself to his life.
His one-way ticket out of the college town came in the form of a phone call from his dad. John's brother had died. Uncle Paul had an ex-wife (it was a nasty divorce that had dragged out through much of Chandler's teen years), but no children. He didn't live in Minnesota, but sometimes he'd come stay at the house for a week or two and watch Chandler while his parents went out of town on a kid-free trip and he always treated Chandler like the son he never had. He was the closest thing Chandler had to an adult he could trust (although he never discussed his parents quirks with his uncle - even as an adult he never wanted to open that can of worms). Without any immediate family of his own, Paul had left his vacation home in Maine to Chandler. He didn't think twice before packing what he could in a suitcase and going to check out Merrock himself. He's been there ever since.
Chandler had a history of doing freelance photography to fill the gaps between what his parents were sending and the cost of living. But, as much as he enjoyed photography, he didn't have the connections in Merrock to go full-time with it. And he was so new to town, he didn't know how reliable it would be for income in the long run. So he got a job at Pause for Paws. It might seem like an odd fit for someone who's not exactly warm and fuzzy himself, but Chandler loves animals and had never really been able to have a pet in his life. And with him being really into cooking and a good amateur bartender, he figured those skills would be transferrable to working in a cafe. Since getting more settled into small town life, he has adopted a dog named Jenna and a cat from the cafe he named Ryan Renolds.
