Iran announces final list of approved presidential candidates
Iran’s election official Mohsen Islami announced on Sunday the final list of candidates approved to run in the upcoming presidential election.
Iran’s 14th presidential election will take place on 28 June. The list, endorsed by the Guardian Council for the snap general election, follows the death of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in May in a helicopter crash near the border with Azerbaijan.
Among the six qualified candidates were Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, Masoud Pezeshkian, Saeed Jalili, Alireza Zakani, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, and Seyyed Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi. The registration of potential candidates lasted for five days, with a total of 80 people registering.
However, the council again barred other high-profile candidates, including former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Ali Larijani. All female candidates were also barred from running for the office, as it has been an exclusively male position since its inception.
After the announcement of the final list of candidates for the 2024 presidential election, social media users reacted differently. Some expressed satisfaction with the Guardian Council’s vetting process, whereas others criticised the disqualification of candidates. Several users lamented the lack of diversity and new faces among the candidates.
The final list of candidates generally evoked a wide range of opinions in Iran, from satisfaction to criticism and resignation.

“Raisi’s death in itself will not structurally change the leadership of the country which is ensured by the supreme leader Khamenei. On the other hand, we must now scrutinise the looming political battle and the internal balance of power within the regime, since the Iranian constitution provides that new elections must be organised within 50 days.” - Taghi Rahmani, the husband of the imprisoned Nobel prize winner Narges Mohammadi
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei is 85 years old and has been the supreme leader since 1989. Previously was president from 1981 to 1989. Khamenei is the longest-serving head of state in the Middle East.
Wikipedia
Iran: who holds power now the president is dead? | The Guardian
The question of who will succeed Khamenei, who has been treated for prostate cancer and has other health issues, has become more pressing in recent years as he had groomed and elevated key loyalists like Raisi, the president who died on Sunday.
Mohammad Mokhber, interim president
Aged 68, Mokhber, who was appointed acting president after Raisi’s death, served as first vice-president. Associated with the hard-line conservative centres of power in Iran, Mokhber is regarded as close to the office of the supreme leader and the IRGC, which represent the two key intersecting focuses of power in the Iranian system of governance.
Mojtaba Khameini, son of Ali Khamenei
Aged 54, the supreme leader’s second eldest son is sometimes mentioned as a potential successor to his father. An important figure in the Office of the Supreme Leader, he is seen as a power broker and gatekeeper for his father, with his influence dictated by his proximity to Khamenei.

Say Their Name (tw death and executions)
youtube
This video contains heartrending sounds. This video was taken by a neighbor of Mohsen Shekari family after they received his execution news. He wasn't a nobody, he was someone's loved one. He was executed the morning after there were huge demonstrations in Tehran and other cities. He had told his friends "they're not actually going to execute me. Who would execute someone for scratching another person's skin! [The death sentence] is just to scare people"
There are more people on the death row. Some has already received their sentence some are in danger of getting sentenced to death.
Mohammad Boroughani is one of the many protesters whose gotten a death sentence. His crime? Chasing a policeman! Accusation? Waging war against God! He along with Saman Seidi and Mohsen Shekari were warned to be in danger of execution two days ago. Now one is executed.
Ali Moazzami, another prisoner on death row is in imminent danger of getting executed.
Sahand NourMohammadzadeh, a body building champion, has also gotten a death sentence. Crime? Putting a garbage container on fire! Accusation? Waging war against God!
Mohsen karami, iranian Karate champion, is on the death row. Crime? Murder he didn't commit (forced confession). Accusation? Corruption on earth!
Three Iranian rappers, Toomaj Salehi, Saman Yasin, and Behrad Alikorani are also in danger of getting executed. Crime? Opposing the regime in rap! Accusation? The usual. Waging war against God. Corruption on earth.
Hamid Ghareh Hasanlou, Iranian doctor and radiology specialist, is currently in the hospital with severe injuries he's gotten from being tortured in prison. He was taken there from prison with at least three broken ribs. There are pictures of him in the hospital I didn't post here because of the triggering quality of them. He was sentenced to death and received his verdict in the hospital bed. His wife, Farzaneh, a lab technician, is also sentenced to death. They were both arrested while in demonstration.
Hossein Mohammadi another convicted protester, was arrested the same day as the above medic couple. He's a theater actor and he has received his death sentence.
For more information check #StopExecutionsInIran in twitter.
I don't know how we can stop the executions. There are demonstrations and calls happening in iran. We're trying to share their name to spread awareness. But would that stop the regime? They have no moral code, no face to save. What would literal murderers care about west condemning them? They're killing my people and west still hasn't closed their embassies. They're still considering negotiations with the regime. Europe says the door to conversation is open. USA says we might loosen the sanctions! What do you have to tell to a child-killing murderous regime? Why are they helping the islamic republic?
Imagine waking up and receiving a list of your people on a death row. And then your friend tells you "we're all in the line, God knows when our name is going to be a tag!" I felt that.

🌺 The Event of Mubahila 🌺
Najran was a fertile land located in the Northern mountainous region of Yemen about 20 km from Sanaa. About 40,000 Christians inhabited the land divided into 73 small towns. They were idol worshipers historically just like the Arabs but a priest named Femeon, a constructor by profession, preached Christianity in the area of Najran and soon all the population converted to Christianity and Najran became a powerful center of activities of Christians.
After the conquest of Makkah when Islam started spreading rapidly and the warring groups came under the flag of Islam, the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, starting sending emissaries to the tribes who had not yet accepted Islam. In 10 A.H. a similar message was sent to the Christians of Najran and they were offered either to accept the teachings of Islam or live in the protection of Muslims and give Jizya - a kind of fee for protection services. When the Bishop of Najran received this message, he invited all the scholars and influential people of Najran and asked them to think and find a solution to this situation. This news spread rapidly among the masses and some people got infuriated as well but the Bishop of Najran pacified them and advised them to be mindful of the military might of the Islamic regime and try to find a peaceful solution.
Christian mission heads to Madina
After deliberations, it was finally decided to send a mission to Madina and have a dialog with the Muslims. A 14 member delegation headed by Aqib Saidawar and Abu Harisa started off for Makkah.
After exchange of views on several issues, the delegation did not seem to be willing to accept the observations about the incorrect beliefs of Christianity and the logical explanations proving the incorrectness of their beliefs. At that time Allah(swt) send down the famous verse of Mubahila of the Quran:
Then whoever argues with you about it after [this] knowledge has come to you - say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars [among us]." (Holy Quran 3:61)
The Prophet recited this verse and invited them for Mubahila - praying to God(swt) to destroy and banish the liars.
Mubahila became necessary since the Christian delegation was adamant to accept the truth. After some hesitations the delegations asked to be given one day to reconsider their options and then accepted to have the Mubahila after two days.
Whom did the Prophet take with him?
The Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, selected a place close to Madina for the Mubahila which was then cleaned and prepared by Salman al-Mohammadi and the next day the Christian delegation reached the designated place. A number of people also gathered at the site. The Holy Prophet Mohammad took with him Imam Ali, Fatima al-Zahraa, Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain, peace be upon them.
Prophet Mohammad sat down under a tree with these weighty personalities and said that when I pray to God, you all should say ‘Ameen'. When the Christian delegation saw a woman, two children and only one man with the Prophet, they got scared and worried and Abu Harisa said, "O my Christian friends, I am seeing such bright faces that if they pray that God move this mountain from its place then the mountain will be moved. I warn you do not have Mubahila with them or you all will be destroyed and banished."
The Christian delegation was still amazed and frightened when the brother of Abu Harisa, Karz ibn-e-Alqama stated, "O my fellows, it appears that Mohammad is the same last apostle and prophet that has been mentioned in our sacred books. We should not have Mubahila with them because anyone who had Mubahila with the prophets in the past as well were destroyed. Look around you and observe that the signs of your destruction are appearing." When they looked around, they observed that the entire atmosphere had changed and it appeared that a furious storm is in offing.
Result of the Mubahila
Witnessing this, they backed off from the contest and requested that their friendship be accepted. Prophet Mohammad accepted their request and asked Imam Ali to write the agreement according to which they Najran tribes accepted to pay Jizya and live under the protection of the Muslims.
This victory is a unique one in the history of this world.

Death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon rises, Iran’s Ayatollah orders retaliatory attack against Tel Aviv
The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek and nearby villages rose to 11 people on Thursday, with 14 others injured, as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has given the order to prepare for a strike on Israel.
Death toll from Israeli airstrikes on eastern Lebanon rises to 11
The strikes began with an attack on a house in the village of Buday, killing a man, his wife and their two children, the Lebanese agency said on Friday.
Israeli forces carried out further airstrikes on residential areas, particularly the town of Makneh, where six members of one family were killed and six others were wounded. The agency reported that additional airstrikes hit the southern entrance to Baalbek, destroying a house, killing a woman and injuring five others.
A strike on the nearby village of Douris severely damaged homes, businesses and public infrastructure, and left three people with minor injuries.
The news agency highlighted the wider impact of Israeli airstrikes on Baalbek-Hermel and Central Bekaa, which have so far reached 1,035 separate strikes, resulting in 528 deaths and 1,069 injuries across the region.
Last month, Israel launched a large-scale air campaign in Lebanon against what it claims are Hezbollah targets, escalating a year of cross-border hostilities between Israel and the group after Israel launched a brutal offensive on Gaza.
Israeli attacks have killed nearly 2,900 people and injured more than 13,000 since last October, according to Lebanese health authorities. Israel expanded the conflict by launching an invasion of southern Lebanon on October 1.
Lebanon, Gaza ceasefire hopes dim as Israeli PM puts more conditions
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told visiting US envoy Amos Hochstein and Middle East adviser Brett McGurk on Thursday that any ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah must guarantee Israel’s security. Netanyahu’s office said after the meeting in Jerusalem:
The Prime Minister specified that the main issue is not paperwork for this or that deal, but Israel’s determination and capacity to ensure the deal’s application and to prevent any threat to its security from Lebanon.
Speaking at a military academy in Israel’s Negev desert on Thursday, Netanyahu told reservists that he appreciated American support in the ongoing wars against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, but would not bow to all US demands. He said:
My policy is simple. I say yes when it’s possible, but I say no when it’s needed,” he told trainee officers. Hamas will no longer control Gaza and Hezbollah will not settle on our northern border. We are also blocking weapons supply chains from Iran to Hezbollah via Syria and from there to Lebanon.
Khamenei gives the order to prepare for an attack on Israel
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has given the order to prepare for a strike on Israel, the New York Times reported on Thursday, citing three Iranian officials. According to the newspaper, the decision was made after the leader was briefed on the extent of the damage caused by the Israeli strike on Iran last Saturday. According to them, Khamenei was impressed by the amount of casualties and destruction and said that ignoring the results of the Israeli strike would mean “admitting defeat.”
The officials said the strike would be carried out after the US presidential election on November 5 so as not to worsen the chances of Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Earlier, Kamenei’s senior aide Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani warned of a “harsh and regrettable” response to the Israeli strike. The influential cleric told Tasnim news agency:
The recent action of the Zionist regime in attacking parts of our country was a desperate move and the Islamic Republic of Iran will give it a harsh and regretful response.
He praised the work of Iran’s air defence that “prevented the Zionist regime’s militants from infiltrating the country” and said the damage from the strikes was “minimal.”
Commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps Hossein Salami said Israel had made a mistake and would see an Iranian response that would “surpass imagination.” He said Israel was wrong to think it could change the balance of power in the region by launching a few missiles, but it saw its air defences fail during Iran’s October 1 strike. Iran fired about 200 ballistic missiles at Israel during that attack.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a clear message to Iran in his speech at the IDF cadet graduation ceremony, saying that Israel’s primary goal of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear capability remains unchanged. He said:
The bravado of the Iranian regime cannot mask the simple fact that Israel today has a greater freedom to operate in Iran than ever before.

Meet the Team: IRAN
Now that squads have been announced, we can look more closely into the hotness of the individual teams. I mean, that’s what we’re here for, right? For each team, I’ll talk a bit about the squad, then highlight ten hotties.
Today’s team: IRAN!
This is the first time Iran have qualified for two World Cups in a row, and Iran look stronger this go ‘round. They’ve added some pacey wingers and an in-form striker to their well-organized defense. Many don’t expect them to make it to the knockouts, and it’s a shame because I wouldn’t mind looking at these faces longer.
Team Nickname: Team Melli (The National Team) Fan Chant: Iran! (6x clap)
Goalkeepers:
Ali Beiranvand, #1 (home club: Persepolis FC)
Rashid Mazaheri, #12 (home club: Zob Ahan Isfahan FC)
Amir Abedzadeh #22 (home club: CS Maritomo)
Hot, young...talent.
Defenders:
Roozbeh Cheshmi, #4, (home club: Esteghlal Tehran)
Milad Mohammadi, #5 (home club: Akhmat Grozny)
Pejman Montazeri, #15 (home club: Esteghlal Tehran)
Majid Hosseini, #19 (home club: Esteghlal Tehran);
Ehsan Haji Safi, #3 (home club: Olympiacos)
What a jawline (with or without facial hair) and can rock a suit and a kit in equal measure.
Morteza Pourliganji, #8 (home club: Al Saad)
Stocky, hardy build. Eyebrow game on fleek (as the kids say), and great hair.
Mohammad Reza Khanzadeh, #13 (home club: Padideh FC)
Beautiful brown eyes, amazing bone structure, and a wink I’m happy to return
Ramin Rezaeian, #23 (home club: KV Oostende)
Ramin seems kind of like a frat boy, but like a really talented one with a sweet smile. So...it’s not terrible
Midfielders:
Mehdi Torabi, #2 (home club: Saipa Alborz)
Saeid Ezatolahi, #6 (home club: FK Amkar Perm)
Omid Ebrahimi, #9 (home club: Esteghlal Tehran)
Vahid Amiri, #11 (home club: Persepolis FC)
Masoud Shojaei, #7 (home club: AEK Athens)
That one friend you had in third grade whose father was so handsome and would ruffle your hair and laugh and tell you he was glad to see you again and even though he was totally wholesome (and now you know that was part of it), you felt things for the first time
Forwards:
Mehdi Taremi, #17, (home club: Al Gharafa)
Sardar Azmoun, #20 (home club: Rubin Kazan)
Ashkan Dejagah, #21 (home club: Nottingham Forest),
Karim Ansarifard, #10 (home club: Olympiacos)
I’m still processing the deltoids in the first pic, And I can’t even think about the thighs in the second.
Saman Ghoddos, #14 (home club: IFK Östersund)
Gorgeous eyes and looks like he gives really great hugs?
Reza Ghoochannejhad, #16 (home club: SC Heerenveen)
Reza, Reza, Reza. Stop.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh, #18 (home club: AZ Alkmaar)
Arguably Iran’s star player this year on the field. And off the field. I mean, are you seeing this? What is in the water in Iran?

Caldor Fire ‘knocking on the door’ of Lake Tahoe area (USA Today) A rapidly expanding wildfire is approaching the outskirts of the Lake Tahoe basin and has become the nation’s No. 1 priority for firefighting resources, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. The Caldor Fire, which is only 10 days old, has exploded to nearly 123,000 acres and taken out 632 structures including more than 450 homes. It helped spur evacuations and, along with several blazes across the state, led to the closure of nine national forests. Nearly 18,000 properties were still in danger from the blaze, which was 11% contained as of Tuesday evening. “It is knocking on the door to the Lake Tahoe basin,” said Chief Thom Porter, director of CAL FIRE. “We have all efforts in place to keep it out of the basin but we do need to also be aware that is a possibility based on the way the fires have been burning.”
Genocide prosecution of former president tests Bolivia’s justice system (Washington Post) On the day before Bolivian former interim president Jeanine Áñez was arrested and detained this year, accused of gaining power by fomenting a coup in 2019, she left her supporters with a message: “The political persecution has begun.” And in the five months since, as Áñez’s mental and physical health has deteriorated in jail, the conservative former leader has become a symbol of the deepening polarization in Bolivia. To some, she’s the victim of a vengeful, politically motivated justice system under her socialist successor, President Luis Arce. To others, she’s a usurper who staged a coup that dislodged longtime president Evo Morales, and then presided over systematic human rights abuses by police. On Saturday, a day after prosecutors announced new charges of “genocide” against her, Áñez cut her own wrist, in what her lawyer described as “a cry for help.” The question of whether and how to prosecute those responsible for the violence that followed Morales’s resignation and flight from Bolivia in late 2019—including shootings by police that left at least 20 people dead and 98 injured—is testing this politically volatile South American nation.
China to add 'Xi Jinping Thought' to national curriculum (Reuters) China will incorporate "Xi Jinping Thought" into its national curriculum to help "establish Marxist belief" in the country's youth, the education ministry said in new guidelines published on Tuesday. The Ministry of Education said Chinese President Xi Jinping's "thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era" would be taught from primary school level all the way to university. The move is aimed at strengthening "resolve to listen to and follow the Party" and new teaching materials must "cultivate patriotic feelings", the guidelines said. Since coming to power in 2012, the Chinese President has sought to strengthen the ruling Chinese Communist Party's role in all areas of society, including its businesses, schools and cultural institutions.
Japan further expands virus emergency areas as cases surge (AP) Japan expanded its coronavirus state of emergency on Wednesday for a second week in a row, adding eight more prefectures as a surge in infections fueled by the delta variant strains the country’s health care system. The government last week extended the state of emergency until Sept. 12 and expanded the areas covered to 13 prefectures from six including Tokyo. With four new prefectures added to a separate “quasi-emergency” status, 33 of Japan’s 47 prefectures are now under some type of emergency measures. Japan’s state of emergency relies on requirements for eateries to close at 8 p.m. and not serve alcohol, but the measures are increasingly defied. Unenforceable social distancing and tele-working requests for the public and their employers are also largely ignored.
Duterte confirms he’ll run for Philippines VP next year (AP) Tough-talking Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has confirmed rumblings that he will run next year for vice president, in what critics say is an attempt at an end-run around constitutional term limits. Philippine presidents are limited by the 1987 Constitution to a single six-year term. At least two former presidents, Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, have made successful runs for lower public offices after serving as president, but not for vice president.
Kabul evacuation going at a 'significant pace' (BBC) Evacuations from Afghanistan's Kabul airport have picked up pace, with about 82,300 people now evacuated overall. The Pentagon says more than 10,000 are currently awaiting evacuation. Up to 1,500 Americans may still need evacuating, Secretary of State Blinken says, and US is "aggressively reaching out". Some US troops have already started to leave as the effort enters its final phase. Turkey is also pulling out troops, apparently abandoning plans to help secure Kabul airport.
Afghanistan ‘marching towards starvation’—UN food chief (Reuters) Millions of Afghans could soon face starvation due to a combination of conflict, drought and the coronavirus pandemic, the executive director of the World Food Programme said on Tuesday, calling on political leaders to act fast. “There’s a perfect storm coming because of several years of drought, conflict, economic deterioration, compounded by COVID,” David Beasley told Reuters in Doha. “The number of people marching towards starvation has spiked to now 14 million.” Afghanistan is facing economic collapse after foreign countries and institutions said they would withhold aid and monetary reserves after Islamist Taliban insurgents took control of the capital Kabul on Aug. 15. Beasley said the international community faced some very difficult decisions, warning it would be “hell on earth” for the people of Afghanistan if the economic situation deteriorated.
Some Afghans vow to resist Taliban from mountain enclave (AP) In a mountain valley north of Kabul, the last remnants of Afghanistan’s shattered security forces have vowed to resist the Taliban in a remote region that has defied conquerors before. But any attempt to reenact that history could end in tragedy—or farce. Nestled in the towering Hindu Kush, the Panjshir Valley has a single narrow entrance and is the last region not under Taliban control following their stunning blitz across Afghanistan. Local fighters held off the Soviets in the 1980s and the Taliban a decade later under the leadership of Ahmad Shah Massoud, a guerrilla fighter who attained near-mythic status before he was killed in a suicide bombing. His 32-year-old foreign-educated son, Ahmad Massoud, and several top officials from the ousted Western-backed government have gathered in the valley. They include Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who claims to be the caretaker leader after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country. But experts say a successful resistance is highly unlikely. While the Panjshir Valley remains as impregnable as ever, it’s unclear how long its residents can hold out if the Taliban besiege the area or attack it using the U.S.-supplied armaments they have seized in recent weeks. And Western countries are unlikely to help.
Leaked footage shows inmates abused at Iran’s Evin Prison, prompting rare official apology (Washington Post) The head of Iran’s prison authority apologized Tuesday after a hacker group released footage showing guards beating and kicking inmates at a notorious prison for political detainees and foreigners. The footage, from northern Tehran’s Evin Prison, was distributed to news outlets including the Associated Press, which first reported on the leaked video and said time stamps on the footage showed it was recorded in 2020 and this year. Scenes from the video showed what appears to be a suicide attempt by a man using glass from a bathroom mirror he smashed, guards dragging an emaciated man along floors and stairs and two men—a guard and what looks like another prison employee—engaged in a bloody fistfight, as other prison employees watch and try to separate them. The Associated Press said the group that shared the videos, called “the Justice of Ali,” claimed to have “hundreds” of gigabytes of data from a hack conducted several months ago. “I take responsibility for these unacceptable behaviors,” Mohammed Mehdi Haj-Mohammadi, the head of Iran’s Prisons Organization, said in a message posted on his Twitter account Tuesday, in a rare acknowledgment by the authorities of official abuse. “I will commit to not letting these horrific incidents being repeated, and deal seriously with law breakers,” he added. The prison, built in 1971 during the rule of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, soon gained notoriety for human rights abuses. After the 1979 Iranian revolution, Iran’s clerical rulers continued to hold political prisoners at Evin, which was the scene of mass executions in 1988.
Middle East Heat (Foreign Policy) This summer, several picturesque countries in the Middle East became tinderboxes. As extreme temperatures and severe droughts ravaged the region, forests burned, and cities became islands of unbearable heat. In June, Kuwait recorded a temperature of 53.2 degrees Celsius (127.76 degrees Fahrenheit), while Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia all recorded over 50 degrees (122 degrees). A month later, temperatures in Iraq spiked to 51.5 degrees (124.7 degrees), and Iran recorded a close 51 degrees (123.8 degrees). Worst of all, this is just the start of a trend. The Middle East is warming at twice the global average.
Through four wars, toll mounts on a Gaza neighborhood (AP) The electricity is out again tonight in what’s left of Zaki and Jawaher Nassir’s neighborhood. But from the shell of their sitting room, its wall blown open by Israeli missiles, twilight and a neighbor’s fire are enough to see by. Here, down a narrow lane called Al-Baali, just over a mile from the heavily fortified border separating northern Gaza and Israel, cinderblock homes press against each other before opening to a modest courtyard below the Nassirs’ perch. Until this neighborhood was hammered by the fourth war in 13 years between Israel and Hamas militants, the Nassirs often sipped coffee by a window, watching children play volleyball using a rope in place of a net. Other days, the couple looked out as relatives pulled fruit off the yard’s fig and olive trees. Now they spend day after day surveying the wreckage of the May 14 airstrike from broken plastic chairs while awaiting building inspectors, the gaping holes in surrounding homes serving as windows into their neighborhood’s upheaval. In the skeleton of one building, children play video games atop a slab of fallen concrete. In another, a man stares out from beside a bed covered in debris, ignoring the ceiling fan drooping overhead like a dead flower. The smell of pulverized cement and plaster dust hangs in the air. Each afternoon, demolition workers arrive to hack away at this real-life stage set so that the Nassirs and their neighbors can start rebuilding—again.
Algeria says cutting diplomatic ties with Morocco (Reuters) Algeria is cutting diplomatic relations with Morocco, Foreign Minister Ramdane Lamamra said on Tuesday at a news conference, accusing its neighbour of “hostile actions”. Morocco and Algeria have had strained relations for decades, mainly over the issue of Western Sahara, and the border between the two countries has been closed since 1994. Algeria last week said lethal wildfires were the work of groups it has labelled terrorist, one of which it said was backed by Morocco. Algeria backs the Polisario movement that seeks independence for Western Sahara, which Morocco regards as part of its own territory.

Definition and definition of film / film
