‘Greetings from the other side’
Many might know about the Barbie girls from last year, but some other commercial girls have become popular as of late (at least on twitter to my knowledge), like the Mitsuwa Soap lady (no official name) and Pallina, for the Carosello.
Both commercials were made for Japan and Italy respectively.

Got some Miffy stationery at the Kinokuniya in Mitsuwa last weekend. I cut down the pencil board and rounded the corners to fit in my A6 journal. (sticker is @petite-gloom, moon washi is Zynshe, Miffy washi and pencil board is Mercis bv)

Seiwa Market, 21815 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503
Tumblr media
Seiwa Market is a Japanese grocery store that took over the old Fresh & Easy space in Torrance. It’s practically across the street from Tokyo Central and Mitsuwa.  Mitsuwa and Toyko Central are larger and have a much larger selection of prepared foods from their in-store deli.
Seiwa feels and looks more no frills and seems to be a bit cheaper. It has a bit of a warehouse store feel. It has what most Japanese grocery stores would have: fresh produce including some Japanese produce, fresh seafood, sushi, bentos, snacks, frozen food, green tea, noodles, rice, dishes, small kitchen appliances, bath & body products, etc. While there is no in-store bakery, they carry lots of items from Cream Pan, the Japanese bakery in Tustin. Love Cream Pan!
A lot of the meat and seafood is frozen. They had some prepared Hawaiian food in the deli section.
I found some cold brew coffee (imported from Japan) here that I didn’t see at Tokyo Central.
Sukiyaki don ($6.99) with pickled ginger, onions, thin slices of stewed beef, sukiyaki sauce, tofu cubes, rice, and clear noodles. It’s like the Yoshinoya beef bowl. The beef slices were very thin. I liked it. There wasn’t much sauce or beef but it wasn’t too salty and it was filling because of the amount of steamed white rice
Shiosake bento ($6.99): A small piece of salmon, tiny bits of macaroni salad, eggplant, multigrain steamed rice, burdock root. Small portion size but cheap. The salmon was on the dry side and the mac salad seemed to be just macaroni and mayo. Simple but not bad.
Miso soup packets ($3.59)
Kewpie yuzu & kosho dressing ($2.89 on sale)
No returns or exchanges due to COVID-19. The specials of the week are posted outside. When the hot deli is open, you can get hot food that’s made to order.
4 out of 5 stars

I am SO READY for work tomorrow, but hear me out. I have to go to my other location in the afternoon because we have a site review (ugh) BUT, I'm gonna cut some corners and when I go on my lunch break to Mitsuwa, I'm gonna spend extra time at the Bubble tea cafe I like to go to read. Instead of being back to my first location at 1:00, I'm gonna LEAVE the cafe at 1:00 and head to my second location. They'll never know what time I left lunch and I can always blame "traffic" if I arrive a little late XD
So basically I'm excited for tomorrow for extra bubble tea reading time~ and I'm gonna start my reread of Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World so I can start Murakami's new book asap!
