A Good Girl

AKA Dwight being a perceptive ass.

For once I was the one behind the bar. My arms were crossed and I gave the man before me a rather unimpressed look, taking in the New York Italian man that seemed to be a regular more often than not these days. He sipped his drink, bourbon that I myself had poured, looking back at me with a raised brow. 

It wasn’t quiet. While it was early it wasn’t dead, the bar had a few people in it, and the kitchen was loud behind the door, but I didn’t speak as I stared down the mobster. Dwight took another sip before setting the drink down, clearing his throat. “Have I done something to offend you?” “Why would you think that?” I asked, shifting my weight and my lips thinning to a line. 

“Cause you are looking at me like you wanna decorate your walls with my insides.” He said bluntly, dark eyes meeting mine. I didn’t blink, didn’t speak for a few moments before taking a step towards the bar and leaning on it, leaning in towards him. “You are bad news. Men like you are always bad news. I don’t like you around this place, around Mitch.” 

He hummed, looking down at his drink a moment before glancing back up at me. “So that is what this is about. You and Mitch, hm?” I narrowed my eyes, fighting off the blush that threatened to spread up my neck to my cheeks. “I certainly did not say that.” I snapped back, knowing right after it left me that was sign enough. I was showing my hand to this man, all but confessing that I cared about Mitch. That this was personal. Fuck. 

“Didn’t know you two were together.” He said, not with malice but with a genuine carelessness, as if it didn’t really impact him. Not that it would. He nudged his glass forward, empty, and I huffed but grabbed the bottle to pour him some more. “We aren’t together, not that it’s your business. He’s just a good guy, and men like you use good guys.” I explained, putting the bourbon bottle back into it’s spot, annoyed that I was now in this situation. I wasn’t about to pour my heart out to this mobster, to let him know that Mitch was my safe place, that this bar and his house and pops had become home in a way that four walls and a roof never could be. I felt safe. Secure. I wasn’t going to let that slip through my fingers. 

“Sweetheart, I can promise you. I have no intentions of hurting or using that man any more than he is me. We have a mutual interest, a common understanding. We are going to make some money together and that will be that.” His deep voice and heavy accent had a tune of honesty but I didn’t trust it. I distrusted men like that, men who saw all situations as options to get richer, to do things regardless of law. 

“I don’t give a damn what you say,” I said quietly, nails tapping on the bar top as I leaned in. “I can’t stop him from making decisions, but I’m warning you Dwight. Don’t you dare hurt that man.” 

“Darlin’, table 5’s food is in the window.” That familiar voice made me straighten, looking over to see Mitch standing there looking amused, his blue eyes jumping between me and Dwight with a small tilt of his head. Curious. I blushed and ducked my head, walking past Mitch towards the kitchen to grab the food for my tables, leaving Mitch at the bar. The two men watched me duck behind the wall and Mitch looked at Dwight with a raised brow. “Do I even want to know what you two were whispering about?” He asked, grabbing himself a glass for a splash of bourbon himself, topping off Dwight’s at the same time. 

“Got yourself a good girl there, Mitch.” Dwight responded with a little smile, lifting his glass in a small cheers. “Don’t you let that slip through your fingers. Trust me, it will be the greatest mistake of your life.” Mitch gave him a raised brow before glancing over to where I was passing out chicken strip platters and burger baskets, smiling at the customers while checking for if they needed anything else. Without another word he tossed back the rest of his drink, looking at Dwight with a half smile.

i regret to inform everyone that mitch really DID get his :)Z glove doodle tattooed permanently.

the glove doodle he does to remind himself that hockey is supposed to be fun and that somebody (his dog) does love him unconditionally as mitch and not a hockey player.

he got those reminders permanently tattooed on his wrist after a season and postseason of unmitigated hatred and shit from the media and fanbase. before the final season of his current contract.

that’s cool and fun and not at all something i’ll spend an exorbitant amount of time psychoanalyzing haha

You know what drives me crazy? The fact that Camp Creteceous has an episode called "Chaos Theory". It's season 2 episode 8 by the way. And ik we should be aware already cause we all watched the same shows, but I don't wanna gatekeep. And I need some input too. But I re-watched that to see if it had ties. And I didn't see any AT FIRST. But saying it out loud made me realise.

In that episode Tiff and Mitch are trynna hunt dinosaurs to make money from them. And that's basically one of the main plots in chaos theory. Mysterious people are buying dinosaurs for money and to do their bidding. Now I don't think Tiff and Mitch are capable of that, but you never know. Maybe they worked for a group of people who evolved over years, and became way more serious with their dinosaur illegal doings.

Also Mitch and Tiff are dead. I believe they're dead. But I wouldn't fully rule it out that they are alive. Because technically we never saw bodies, they where never mentioned again, and I don't remember seeing blood in the scene where they went on the boat. And the size of the dinos, if Tiff for eaten by them they would have been a mess of blood. Idk. But maybe it's not that deep. But why else would that specific episode be called Chaos theory, and not any other??? It's gonna love in my brain forever and a half sandwich.

my dear siblings in arms last night we gained an unlikely but welcome ally for the mitch marner defense squad

he showed up in a cloud of mist then leapt into hand-in-hand combat vs. the leafs uncles who want to do a variety of things to mitch, ranging from cyberbullying him out of town to "healthy scratch[ing] him for 2 months so he wants to leave" (an actual idea someone thought to post publicly).

if u look at the timestamps for these he was fully in the trenches battling from 3pm-1am.

his calm replies make the uncles look even more obtusely deranged than they already are

he may be doing this with the ulterior motive of trying to get mitch on the penguins and honestly....let's fuckin go

good morning, i still can't believe (yes i can) that a legitimate nhl insider is out here saying . yes the greatest goal scorer has an agreement in place with his team about WHO he plays with and it's understood that they will be longtime franchise players for the leafs as a duo. that is the plan. that is am34's plan for the leafs.

like i jsut. i.... in this sport where these men get torn apart for even Saying they have a preference bc its a team sport and they need to just accept whatever position they're put in... it's THAT important to wannabe-chill and lowkey auston matthews (read: actual control freak who Wants to appear a certain way) that he gets to play with mitch marner after being denied for a while as a rookie............ his favorite guy.... his apple tree......... his bff since rookie year....

that's part of his reason for staying a maple leaf and his longterm plan for being in toronto.......... bro. like to have theories about it vs to have an insider saying it's something that's openly discussed w the leafs org. to think about all the times auston gets bitchy with the media after being split w mitch or when they try to pry about something mitch and auston got pulled to the side for specifically.... god DAMN. im so emotional over them like they really do love each other so fucking much
