The significance of Honmun for Korean Spiritualism in KPOP DEMON HUNTERS
Previously, I wrote how this movie did an homage to the history of Korean music/pop when they were narrating the history of the demon hunters here. In this post I wanted to talk about an important plot element from this movie, the 혼문 (honmoon). For the record this term is NOT an actual thing in Korean spiritualism/shamanism/folklore, but it definitely was made with some aspects of that in mind.
Tumblr media
FYI: Some stuff I might propose is pure speculation based on my own knowledge of Korean culture, and not something anyone in the KDH crew has said officially, so take it with a grain of salt. If there is any official interviews/info that do come out later down the line, the post will be updated. Also possible mild movie spoilers
First the word 혼문 itself is significant. It seems to be a mix of two different words: 영혼 (yeonghon) which is the word for soul/spirit, and 문 (moon) which is commonly the word for door (sometimes can be used to mean gate). So the literal meaning of honmoon is the "Soul door/gate." And it works, because the hunters sing to emotionally connect with their audience's/fans' souls, creating a mystical barrier to shut out the demons.
Tumblr media
Using the 무당 (mudang) trio to demonstrate the early instances of making this honmoon with the hunters, as mentioned in my prev post, is not just coincidence. Mudang were important figures in Korean shamanism (Muism) and performed various rituals/rites for all kinds of people, many serving as spiritual guardians in their villages/community. The rites are called 굿 (gut) and the purpose of them range widely (there are also regional differences).
A common theme with the gut is that these are never PERMANENT. A good example is the 도당굿 (Dodang-gut), usually an annual/semiannual rite to ensure a village or a community continues to maintain its well-being and prosperity. This is no different from how each generation of demon hunters must perform to maintain the honmoon, otherwise their purpose would have been fulfilled by the first generation and ended there.
Speaking of how there are multiple generations of demon hunters, even that seems to be covered in the movie too. A woman can be a mudang via two ways: inheriting the business by bloodline aka 강신무 (Kangshinmu), or being initiated into it aka 세습무 (Seseummu). In the current generation of demon hunters we see today, Rumi is a reference to the Kangshinmu (her mother was the prev demon hunter) while Zoey and Mira are referring to Seseummu (recruited/trained by Celine). But the mudang today don't really differentiate themselves by what type they are so its a fun little detail.
Going back to the honmoon, the movie seems to have a general set of colors to represent the honmoon's condition. By default it's blue, gold at the height of its power/function, and purple/red when weakened. I am not sure if the colors have much significance other than simple association (i.e. weakness is depicted in purple/reds since Gwi-ma and the demon underworld is that color) outside of gold, which associated with high status (but that's not just a Korea thing tbh). The one thing that is neat is at the end of the movie, the coveted "gold" color that Rumi and the girls wanted to achieve to reinforce the honmoon is not present at all. It is a wholly different iridescent color.
Tumblr media
This too is significant since their performances, which are like big musical gut to help their world from demons, is breaking away from the usual tradition of hiding their insecurities and identities for duty. Hilariously enough muism thrive on building new traditions too. Mudang and muism are not like other organized religion in that there is no central leadership or clergy, and there is a lot of different variations on how a gut is performed. So a dodang-gut performed in the Chosun era would not be the same as a dodang-gut that is performed Korean village today, which would still have their own regional differences.
So whether on purpose or not, Kpop Demon Hunters really feel like a homage to not just kpop but aspects of Korean culture that is not as well liked (throughout history Muism has been shunned by other popular religions like Christianity and even by the government, which does affect how it is percieved publically) or known. Hope you enjoyed this post and let me know what else you might want, or point out any errors in my writing!

Welcome back to the Kingswap AU Yapping. Todays topic is Party Dynamics
(What's this?) Today we focus in on Clovis (Our swapped King now in Siffrins position). As you can see, his first introduction to the party was a bit of a...mixed affair? Guy's got some anxieties (Don't worry, they caught him later) WARNING: This chatter post i'm just gonna blanket as just being spoilers all around for 'In Stars And Time', and any content warnings that apply to the game also apply here.
First things first before getting into it...WOAH THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE RESPONSE! I wasn't expecting people to resonate so much with the idea, I was maybe expecting a small handful of notes, but seeing people interested and keysmashing in the comments/tags and theorizing makes me very happy! I also appreciate all the asks that have been sent in (Don't worry. I've seen you guys who are curious about how much of a freak Isabeau is re: the Stagemaster. I see you. I love you. I will get to those soon.) But the topic today is focused on Clovis.
Hey Jolly, what's the point of focusing on all this background stuff if this AU ends up in the loops anyways?
It's MY BRAINROT, and I SAY that the Orb Quest and background stuff is ESSENTIAL to the LORE A big part hanging over In Stars and Time is the Team. The Friends. The FAMILY. It is a huge crux of the motivations of Siffrin, and for this AU I wanna sell you on the Swapped King having a place in the party, and how the others bounce off of him and interact with him. It's fun translating someone like The King into a form that is a very different role but keeping some of the themes he comes with.
So, what's the Vibe?
Clovis is an awkward wet dog. He fills a similar niche that Siffrin does, being a semi-forgetful islander who is a complete disaster once you peel back the curtains, and is different in how he intersects with the party.
A small example would be puns. He doesn't make puns - but he ends up being funny anyways
Tumblr media
"You're telling me a shrimp fried this rice?" He forgets words a lot similar to Siffrin, and is mortified every time - but he says things so seriously that everyone has a great time anyways.
One on One, you can rank the differences between character interactions on...Do they Like Dogs or Cats More? Siffrin is Cat, Clovis is Dog.
Lets Look At The Most Different Dynamic Compared to Siffrin: Mirabelle.
Mirabelle prefers dogs. She struggles to understand Siffrin, and Siffrin struggles to understand her, and that is the crux of a lot of problems that happen in ISAT, with Mirabelle not wanting to seem nosey with Siffrins secrets.
So, she thrives alongside Clovis. A sad, wet dog she found behind a dumpster. Who is very, very intense and gives off unnerving energy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mirabelle leash your fucking cryptid. He's scaring the neighbours.
Clovis is slightly more open than Siffrin (Can't hide behind a hat, after all) and he willingly searched out the Party to join them on their quest to save Vaugarde (Though he's a bit cagey on answering why outside of thats what a knight would do, but thats okay). He's willingly pledged his service, and Mirabelle appreciates having someone who is unambiguously on her side without having to be asked. It also helps that he also seems a little scared all the time, but thats okay. They can be brave together. (She just wishes that he wouldn't put himself in harms way all the time)
Tumblr media
Mira also considers Clovis to be a bit of a good luck charm, in fact - she's learned she can take him out to do errands, and for some strange reason...She doesn't get bothered nearly as much by strangers approaching her to talk with the 'Chosen of the Change God'. Going shopping is almost pleasant when he's with her!
Tumblr media
Clovis isn't really sure why it happens either. (It's because you scare the shit out of people with your neutral expression, dude.)
Hey, wouldn't that kinda dedication be a little weird for Mirabelle?
Maybe. I'd like to think they're on a weird similar wavelength, with Clovis being so deep in his knightly sensibilities and being so polite to her. Some....secret third thing (It's friendship. Ace for Ace solidarity). Clovis would probably catch onto the papers well before Dormont, but, well. He'd probably not wanna snoop about it, cause that's rude!
Tumblr media
(He's some flavour of Ace? You decide. shipping ain't off the table, but that's not the focus for this AU. The focus is pain and the agonies). Much like how in the artbook insertdisc5 muses that Siffrin would travel with Odile the longest, I think Clovis would join Mirabelle for her pilgrimage.
So, what about someone who is more a Cat person?
Like, say, Odile! Great topic change. Clovis steals Siffrin's spot as 'Odile's chosen for Secret Quests' because he's good at keeping secrets, though...Odile has to pay a bit more attention to Clovis when left in a book store or library on his lonesome. Guy just hones in on Headache books like candy.
Tumblr media
As seen above with the first meeting, Clovis also keeps a lot of Siff's Sus energy. But considering how easily Clovis tends to cave under Odile's pressure, the idea that he could be an assassin from the Stagemaster is laughable at best. (And also easily disproved, considering how active The Stagemaster is in Orbquest for this AU)
You know how in ISAT proper, Odile's Susquest is incredibly hard to get naturally, and often needing a guide to achieve for the typical player? Yeah that's reversed. Clovis can't act for SHIT and Odile can read him like a book. Clovis going through the House of Dormont and has one innocent conversation with the team and you just hear*Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping!* Cats can keep secrets, but you KNOW when a dog has done something they shouldn't have. (Odile probably finds that both funny and charming?)
Now, just cause Clovis can't keep a personal secret, and is potentially easy to read...doesn't mean he isn't cunning. After all...The King in ISAT proper is able to deduce that there's something fucky going on with Siffrin, and is perfectly capable of deception.
Tumblr media
Clovis voted 'second least likely to beat someone in chess (first being Isabeau on purpose)' but the truth of the matter is he's probably cracked at that. Probably would also love Strategy Games (And is fucking awful at poker).
He'd also prolly join Odile and Isabeau in smoking a bong and going drinking. They're both prolly delighted at this (Out straight edge little knight smoking and drinking? The scandal!)
So...What's Up With Isabeau And Clovis. Is Isabeau...interested in Clovis like he is Siffrin?
WELL. THERE'S CERTAINLY SOMETHING COMPLICATED HERE.
Tumblr media
We can't talk about Isabeau and an AU'd KING and not get a LITTLE bit into The Gender. Even in the baseline material, you can probably write essays on the compare/contrast between The King and Isabeau regarding their masculinity and how it manifests (and in fact, i'm almost sure people have!). Seriously, The King literally chose his title. An explicitly masculine title, with him specifically highlighting the ability to make decisions and force his will onto others.
There's shades of it here, but the villainous side of it is understandably no longer present. Clovis...well, Clovis has a complex relationship to his gender? Unlike Siffrin (who is explicitly said to have never done Body Craft) The King is stated to HAVE done Bodycraft at some point (even if it was to BE BIG), so...Clovis maybe has thought about it (maybe even done it?).
I like to say he's explicitly attached to being A Guy. I'm talking full on 'yippee!' if people call him Sir Clovis. Could just be he's happy to be identified As a Knight...could be something more.
Tumblr media
I'll leave the interpretation to you.
But wait! You said it was complex, this seems straightforward?
Well. The second half of it is that Clovis...explicitly wants to be seen as a protector. He doesn't WANT to scare people, he doesn't WANT to be seen as intimidating or weird or strange and intense. He doesn't want the Party to see him as dangerous or scary. ('But you're the good kind of scary!' is prolly what Mirabelle would say, the horror loving fanatic she is.)
Tumblr media
Not that Clovis would ever -voice- it, but he so very desperately wants what Isabeau has. And vice versa, Isabeau I think would deeply admire Clovis for being practically fearless when it comes to taking on the burdens of the adventure. Clovis takes things in stride (even if in social contexts he's VERY NERVOUS) and yet...Clovis might be anxious...but Clovis isn't a coward. Clovis knows what he wants to be. If shit hits the fan, Clovis is marching forward, focused and unafraid to use what cunning he can muster to get through the obstacle.
So, yeah, Isabeau and Clovis are definitely two bros bonding over being dudes, 100%. Maybe not super outwardly, but it's there. The whole thing smacks of Gender. They both want what the other got.
Does that translate to a crush from Isabeau that Clovis is oblivious to? I haven't decided yet (I lean towards yes? because thinking about Loop having an aneurysm watching Isabeau be an idiot trying to confess to Clovis makes me happy)
Tumblr media
They're friends, at a minimum.
Hey Wait a Second! How is Clovis with Touch?
He's so-so about it! He has the bonus of having his armor insulate him, so, the party will casually touch his armored bits like his gloves and chestplate, but...he reacts about as well as Siffrin is to sudden touch. He'd like it! But. Uh...Well. Not like he can remember a time when someone hugged him, you know? (He'd like a hug, but that would be weird to ask for. Something something knightly distance something something.)
Tumblr media
But Wait! There's One More Party Member! What about Bonnie?
Tumblr media
(Yes for the timecraft from the Stagemaster, btw, i'll get into it another time)
Eye incident? What Eye Incident? Bonnies right over there, see?
Tumblr media
Bonnies all well and go- what? You want them to turn around? Okay...Hey! Bonnie!
Turn around for us!
Tumblr media
See? Bonnies fine. Everything is fine. It's. Fine. Maybe we'll get into the tale there another time. (That's not a typo. Bonnie calls him Cloves :) )
Tumblr media
get out of here you cheeky twink
Anyways, what's the Conclusion here?
Clovis wants to support the party. Clovis, just a little bit selfishly, wants to be useful to them just a little bit longer, if only to make sure Bonnie gets back to their sister (and so she can yell at him profusely and maybe beat him to death with a hammer)
If Siffrin's mantra is 'i'm fine', Clovis' is 'I can handle it.'
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See? He's strong. That's what knights are for, right? Bearing the burden? He can handle it. He can handle it.
Tumblr media
SO WHY CAN'T HE HANDLE IT?!
Once again I hope you enjoyed this little journey here, and i'd like to thank everyone again for being so curious about my brainrot (and a big thanks again to the isat discords AU channel for feeding my worms)
Tumblr media
Anyways thank you byyyyeeeeeeeee, have Clovis enjoying a parfait

What are your thoughts on ISAT's magic system?
AUTISM BLAST
okay long rambly post incoming. for the record like 90% of this is pure unfiltered headcanon. and almost all of this is about colors. sorry if this is hard to follow!!! i need to get this all out of my system.
oh also! a lot of this is based on a really good post by @/chronologically-challenged that shows off the differences between each character’s craft style! go check that out it’s really good
okay!! so!!! colors. this is just my own thing, but i personally like to color code the different types of craft!
Tumblr media
don’t worry about those middle tones yet just put a pin in those
there’s still a little bit of color variety within craft types (for flavor), but generally, rock is blue, paper is yellow, and scissors is red. i’m not going to lie to you i only did this because the splatoon testfire had these colors. it’s also why my triplets designs are colored like that!
Tumblr media
i think these colors also just fit the descriptions of these crafts? red feels like a more aggressive and active color, which matches how piercing craft is generally more focused on dealing damage, blue tends to be calmer, which matches protective craft being more supportive , that kinda thing. something something children’s hospital. yellow is a bit of a wildcard here lol, it just looks nice with the other two.
putting aside the colors for a mo! don’t worry those’ll come back soon. i’ve also been thinking a lot about how dual craft types work, though this is a little more speculative. i’m entirely basing this on how mira works. basically, one craft type seems to be more ‘dominant’ over the other. while mira is both paper and scissors, she’s still weak to rock, her basic attack is scissors, and her scissors skill (jolly round rondo) does much more damage than her paper skill (artsy silent burst). she behaves more like a scissors type, with an extra affinity for paper. which i think is interesting!!!
in terms of colors, i think this would manifest as mira’s craft being tinted orange, as a mix of both her craft type’s colors! this is partially what those uncategorized colors are for. while her scissors attacks are only slightly tinted, her paper attacks would be a lot closer to orange! and this would apply to other dual crafts as well. a rock/paper type would have more greenish attacks, a rock/scissors type would have more purply ones, etc etc.
i think this color mixing would also apply to single craft types trying to use a craft type that isn’t their own, though it’d prolly become less pronounced the more a person ‘gets used’ to using that craft type, so to speak. in a while rockodile would be pretty solidly purple, while rock bottom is more of an indigo color, and odile’s craft skills probably only slightly tinted as well.
ok!!! that was a lot about colors. i’m really fucking normal about colors. onto craft styles!! this is still kinda about colors tho sorry. also, again, go check out @/chronologically-challenged’s post if you haven’t already, it’ll prolly explain this better than i will
Tumblr media
for a tl;dr on that post, each country has a different way of using craft. the forgotten island has lightless craft that tends to manifest as stars and zigzags, vaugarde has big, rounded bursts of grey craft (with smaller circles around it), and ka bue’s craft is more diamond shaped/triangular and tends to be on the lighter side.
this is also the part i’m a little less sure about. i haven’t drawn these out in my normal style!! so a lot of this is subject to change. sorry about that!
anyways. i wanted to preserve the island’s lightless craft while still making it colorful, so i decided to give it a sort of. halo effect? i guess? i wanted it to vaguely resemble the ring of light around a black hole or a solar eclipse, but that is a lot harder to do with the zigzag shape of the craft + my color limitations. and as i’ve recently learned, glow effects look really weird with my pixelly art. so this is all just flat colors 😓
Tumblr media
shhh don’t mind the art here i’ve totally posted it before 🩶
vaugarde is pretty simple comparatively!! the craft is a sort of midshade ingame, so i just made the main color the normal craft colors. not much to say here!
Tumblr media
and ka bue is in a similar boat! i did kinda draw it in my odile sprite redraw, but i didn’t really look at references so it’s kinda boring looking there. not much to say here either!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and!! as we can see from the king’s special attack art, craft styles can kinda mix together. king’s style follows the general shape of vaugardian craft, but keeps the shade and stars from the forgotten island! i think it’d be fun to play with that a little more teehee. i imagine these are a lot more variable depending on how engrossed someone is in a culture, hence why odile’s craft doesn’t borrow from vaugarde’s style. unless she does? it’s not like we see other ka buans using craft in game. who knows.
Tumblr media
also because i forgot, some extra bonus doodles of that craft color mixing i mentioned earlier! yipee!
Tumblr media
and that’s it!!! there’s probably some other stuff that i am. currently forgetting. but this post is absurdly long enough!!! thank you so much for the ask i’m so sorry for autism blasting you about isat and color theory. am i still cool. here’s all of my craft doodles as compensation for reading this giant infodump. i’m so so sorry.

So I've been thinking way too hard about the ISAT role!swap aus by @anxiousapplepie (hi! hope you don't mind the tag :]), especially the Housemaiden!Siffrin AU, and I was planning to draw fanart with my ideas but my university assignments have been looming over me *head in hands*. So in the mean time here's all my thoughts rambled out onto paper so maybe they'll stop haunting me while I'm trying to do work.
Starting with some HCs:
• Having depression is an inherently Siffrin trait, the different Sifs just deal with it differently. HM!Sif was able to get access to antidepressants due to being in the House of Dormont, but wasn't able to take them with him when he had to flee from the King's curse. So like OG!Mira, they had to go through their journey unmedicated. Isabeu and Odile's ractions to finding this out was something like
Tumblr media
• All Miras are medicated for their anxiety, and most of them were able to have access to their meds throughout their journeys (OG!Mira and T!Mira I'm so sorry but you had to do it scared). F!Mira made double sure she brought her's knowing HM!Siffrin didn't have their's.
• Once T!Bonnie started warming up to and trusting the party, they'd hide behind the others' legs when they didn't want to be seen. Hiding behind Siffrin had the added bonus of being able to hide under his cape.
• When T!Bonnie has had a particularly rough night, they'll go sleep next to Siffrin because they know Sif WILL end up cuddling them in his sleep and it makes them feel safe. <- I imagine a lot of their sibling relationship was built on Bonnie going to Sif and just silently clinging and Sif just letting them and not forcing them to talk.
• C!Odile is the best fusion cook ever. This woman can take any two cuisines and mix them together flawlessly. Even things that arguably should never go together.
Ok now for a character ramble under the cut because Housemaiden!Siffrin is that one character I want to put under the microscope like a beetle. Argh. The angst of being the Universe's walking talking religious contradiction...
There's so much potential for HM!Siffrin's inner struggle with the Change belief. For one thing he doesn't really get to choose how he Changes much, he doesn't really have control over it. You can't decide how you'll be a different person if you have no idea who you originally were. Yet the Change belief has this whole thing about choosing to Change yourself and choosing to leave your past self behind. Can you imagine being Siffrin and being told you have to decide to be a completely different person when the only info you have about yourself are the clothes on your back, your accent and a love for malanga fritters? Meanwhile everyone else can choose to Change however they like because they know who they are and how they can be different, and they get to choose to get rid of the mementos of their past because they still ultimately have the memories if they ever want to go back for whatever reason.
And the fact Sif can't really choose to Change kinda shows in the ways he does decide to change because they're all physical changes. They recut their cloak into a cape, they dyed their hair and then let it regrow, they trade weapons or headgear with Mira. Those are all things that he can actually control, and thus can actually make choices about.
Which also makes me think about how he got the "worst/laziest Housemaiden ever" title. It probably felt to any outside perspective who knew the Change belief that Siffrin wasn't putting in any effort to Change and was instead skirting around the rules by just physically changing. So people started to say he's lazy and not following the belief right, and because Siffrin didn't have an identity he internalised being the Worst Housemaiden Ever as his identity and kind of stopped trying because why bother? Which SUCKS because can you imagine losing literally everything about your home/culture/language/family and then trying to make a new home and identity with another community only to be told by that community "hey you're terrible at this actually"? That's awful. Siffrin can probably never really feel truly, confidently part of the Change belief because they were alienated from it from the start.
And then to finally top it all off when Euphrasie chose him to save Vaugarde it's likely no one believed that Sif was the saviour because he's known across the Houses as the Worst Housemaiden Ever, why would the Head Housemaiden of Dormont choose him?!? Which probably only cranked up Sif's self-esteem issues because they'd also think Euphrasie could've picked better.
So yeah *head in hands* Housemaiden!Siffrin feels like a character locked in a constant feedback loop of "can't be part of the community despite their efforts because the system is inherently flawed for them" and "doesn't bother trying so the community disregards them".

fairy tail dragon slayer headcanons pt. 1
♡ what the first gen and second gen dragon slayers eat is pretty self-explanatory. all of their elements are... somewhat tangible. sting and rogue though? they're still figuring it out. rogue wonders if he can eat someone else's shadow, and sting immediately volunteers himself. "for science!" he says. the result is that sting almost passes out. oops. he insists they try on their friends, much to rogue's displeasure. the results are that sting is the most susceptible, then yukino, rufus, orga, and minerva is the least susceptible to magic drainage. sting insists rogue tries to eat an inanimate object's shadow, and nothing happens to it, so they decide that's the way to go.
♡ when wendy eats air, the oxygen levels thin. she has to be careful or she'll cause her allies and enemies alike to pass out. when sting eats light, the area gets darker and darker. this is great for rogue, who starts eating the shadows, and they manage to balance each other out.
♡ sting insists that different types of light taste differently. his favorite is light from golden hour, right when the sun is dipping below the horizon. moonlight will do in a pinch, but it's so diluted that it takes way more of it to recover sting's magic. he also gets sick if he eats too much moonlight.
♡ pantherlily already has transformation magic and enhanced strength, and carla learns to transform so she can help wendy fight. the other three exceeds feel... a little left out. happy learns how to fly faster and for longer (though he still complains about lucy being heavy). lector goes to porlyusica and wendy to learn some stamina regeneration spells for sting. everyone is surprised when frosch, completely on their own, manages to learn an adorable light spell that creates floating pink bubbles. rogue can consume the shadows from them without worrying about draining frosch's magic, and he spends the entire afternoon crying about it.
♡ dragon slayers are a bit like crows. their way of bonding with someone is through gifting trinkets. natsu will bring lucy, erza, and even gray pretty rocks or seashells that he's found on jobs. wendy picks up a new craft or hobby every week, so the members of fairy tail are constantly recieving handmade accessories from her (gajeel helps during the metalsmithing phase). gajeel does not buy cute things for people. he is like a dad in the fact that, when juvia mentions she wants watermelon, he buys her 20 watermelons. walking math problem fr.
♡ laxus has mixed feelings about his more draconic features and habits. he's never loved his magic because of the way he got it, and the memory of his father basically torturing him as he inserted the lacrima will stay with him forever. he tends to suppress dragon instincts more than anyone else in the group, and they all scold him for it. on a rare occasion, laxus will give in and buy something shiny (like a hairclip) for wendy. she has a little jewelry box for them that she guards fiercely.
♡ cobra considers himself more of a flying snake than a dragon. he once drew a picture that sent everyone into a laughing fit. he prefers to stick with the old oración seis crew, but the guild dragon slayers are always happy to see him when he stops by with crime sorcière.
♡ sting, because of his heightened senses and his affinity for light, prefers nighttime. the day can often be overwhelming, and overexposure to bright settings and lots of people leaves his skin buzzing. he likes to sit in the dim guild hall, leaning against the cool stone wall, as the chatter of the crowd quiets down with the setting sun.
♡ dragon slayers all have the Bite instinct. some exercise a degree of control about it, and others go crazy with it. wendy will very gently nibble on erza or mira's arm when she's in the mood, and sometimes she does it absentmindedly. natsu, on the other hand, is an absolute menace. multiple of erza's armor sets have natsu-shaped bite marks on them. he tends to go after her the most because he knows he won't hurt her with the armor. when natsu's more calmed down, he will chomp on lucy's shoulder. gajaeel copes by eating all of fairy tail's silverware (mira starts buying ceramic spoons), but when levy offers her wrist to him he can't help it.
♡ rogue is another one who doesn't really bite people. he, very rarely, nips at frosch's ears, which causes the exceed to giggle. sting is a Biter like natsu, but with slightly more decorum. he really wants to go at it but will restrain himself because most people aren't willing to be treated like a chew toy. luckily for him, gray and cana aren't most people! because they both wear pretty exposing clothing, gray and cana have no qualms about showing off sting's bite marks on their skin. sting always turns bright red when they tease him about it.
♡ laxus and cobra don't really feel the Bite instinct due to being second gen, but cobra is a little shit and bites people for the fun of it. laxus is completely unbothered when natsu clings to him like a koala and gnaws at him.

I actually really want to hear you opinions on Erza and Neo Minerva’s dynamic compared to Erza and Tower of Heaven Jellal’s dynamic.
I feel like Erza had a similar relationship with Mira, Minerva, and Jellal at different points in time and they all had different factors that led to different endings. Would you say one was better than others, or that any should’ve switched etc... sorry, this is a loaded question but I’d like to hear your thoughts on anything.
I had to take a couple days off to answer this in a way I felt did it justice but the short answer is you are soo right.
Minerva's redemption arc is one of those things I have mixed feelings about because while I don't really like the execution in canon I can still very much see the vision. A common criticism I see of the arc is that, from the sun village onward, Erza seems to have this unwavering faith in Minerva's goodness despite Minerva not giving her any reason to believe that she's a good person. While I do agree that they should have fleshed it out more, I think that it makes a lot more sense why Erza would feel that way when you compare it to her previous relationships and experiences, mainly with Mira and Jellal.
Mira, Erza and Minerva are all very different characters but I think they have one major similarity, at one point they have all used an image of strength as a way of protecting themselves. When Erza beat Minerva in gmg, her very existence became a threat to Minerva's sense of security, causing her to very quickly spiral into obsession.
this is something I think Erza recognized post sun village arc as a result of her previous rivalry with Mira. Her and Mira's childhood rivalry was primarily based on the same thing, they recognized themselves in each other and thus perceived the other as a threat. the major difference though is that Mira and Erzas rivalry was mutual, meanwhile Minerva's rivalry with Erza is very one sided. Erza's rivalry with Mira gave her a chance to recognize those feelings and grow past them, something Minerva never had to do before because she's used to being the strongest.
I think during tartaros is where I would draw the strongest parallel to Jellal. Obviously the situations are a bit different but both ended up being taken over as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and I can see why that would trigger an immediate response from Erza. That's why I think at this point her dedication to saving and immediate forgiveness of Minerva was 100% a trauma response. I think Mira is the best comparison for Minerva's arc as a whole but I can definitely see where comparisons could be drawn to Jellal from Erza's perspective and i can also see why those comparisons would influence how she reacted to Minerva in general.
I think another big reason she was so dead set on saving Minerva was because, in a way, she blames herself for what happened to Minerva the same way she did for what happened to Jellal. Going back to gmg, I genuinely believe that when Erza used Nakagami she was trying to kill her, not just defeat, kill. Minerva struck several nerves for her during that fight, she lost control over her emotions. I also think Minerva knew that and that's why she reacted the way she did, she only survived by dumb luck. Erza isn't someone who's unwilling to kill, but every other time she killed someone it has been necessary for the protection of her guild, this is the only time I remember in the series where she tried to kill someone for revenge. Being defeated like that is what drove Minerva to becoming so obsessed she was willing to give up her humanity, something that might not have happened if Erza hadn't gone so insanely hard on her with Nakagami in front of everyone. I don't think that fact would be lost on Erza as someone who understands the way Minerva uses her image as a shield.
Ive said before that during the toh arc I believe that at that point Erza's attachment to Jellal was based on guilt, I think this is the same situation all over again. Erza started Minerva's downward spiral by losing control, therefore in her mind she needs to save her from it because she owes her that. the same way she owed that to Jellal.
I also think its significant that she wanted Minerva to go back to Sabertooth, because from her POV Sabertooth is to Minerva what Fairy Tail is to her.
Anyway sorry for answering with a fucking 10 page essay. I might add more later because I feel like there still more I could say especially on the comparisons I could draw between Mira and Minerva but this response is already devolving into incoherent rambling so for now ill leave it at that. thank you very much for this ask, this is something I've been meaning to talk about for a while now but its one of those things I can never quite translate into words so I hope this makes sense. I hope this answer is what your where looking for and if not just wait there's more

Reviewing a movie I've never seen ("Kpop Demon Hunters")
Tumblr media
Probably the oddest post I've ever made. For anyone who hasn't seen my other posts, the animation style really isn't my taste; I've looked at clips and it just bothers my eyes, but I still wanted to enjoy it, so I found another way to do so: I've listened to the music, saw screenshots and spoilers THE SAME DAY it dropped (another reason movies like this should go to theatres first; I feel like it's not as bad when it's a theatrically-released movie), and read the synopsis on Wikipedia. Obviously it's worth noting that my opinion on this film is very limited due to Wikipedia putting the plot into (as of now) 10 paragraphs and thus I only get the main idea rather than details and I've probably missed a lot, but I swear, it's like I've ALMOST seen the movie. Based on what I've seen, heard, and know (and I"m CERTAIN the fandom will correct me on anything I get wrong; I already said my exposure to this is limited, so don't @ me!), my limited thoughts are:
Zoey is my favorite member of Huntr/x due to her design and weapons. I REALLY wish they kept Mira's fan from the concept art, though!
Really wish there was more emphasis on Zoey and Mira's stories. I feel like this is a common thing in fiction where the protagonist is unique (because why else would they be the protagonist), but I do wish Mira and Zoey had their own arcs/stuff going on. Maybe for example, Mira or Zoey had the parent who was a demon hunter instead of Rumi being the daughter of a demon hunter AND a demon; I feel like you can still have the message of contradiction with Rumi as a demon-demon hunter even if her mom wasn't. Plus I wish the Saja Boys weren't just other demons; not saying they needed deep stories like Jinju, but that would've been nice rather than them being extra demons. Plus I do wish there was more insight into Rumi's past in general, not just when it was threatening to be revealed. I still have questions.
The music was excellent--but I preferred Huntr/x's music over Saja Boys. My ranking from fav to least favorite: "What it Sounds Like" (hope that's what they submit to the Oscars), "How it's Done," "Golden" (anyone else think it'd make a great end credits song?), "Takedown," "Free," "Your Idol," and "Soda Pop."
I wish they gave a different variety of hair colors for the girls. I get that Rumi's hair color is essentially a mix of Zoey and Mira's, but I do wish there was a bit more distinctiveness between them.
That ending with Jinju and Rumi has me heated; as I've mentioned before, I'm a big Disney fan, and something I'm starved for are good animated musicals and romance from them. KPDH delivered on both fronts--but then you know, made a bittersweet romance in the end. And speaking of, was there ever a fallout when Jinju revealed his past to Rumi? Kinda...kinda feel like that's something that would (or should) cause a rift.
I know this doesn't really matter since I didn't end up going to see it, but looking at the concept art, I could've totally seen Sony pushing the envelope and making this a PG-13 animated musical (THE PIONEERING we could've had in that field!)
But yeah, overall it sounds like it was a great adventure and worth the hype--even though I had my criticisms. I'm sure most people will see this post as the most ridiculous thing they've ever read, but I needed to get this off my chest.

Omg so many mixed feelings... 🫠😖 Ok here I go, my KPOP demon hunters review.
First, fast one without Spoilers just feelings:
Animation: impeccable, fantastic , marvelous 🫶👌👌🫦🫦
Aesthetic and designs: good good SO GOOD🫶🫶🫶🫶❤️‍🔥as someone who loves long hair and purple I want Rumi's hair so baaaad (maybe not that long I don't want to step on it though 🙃)
Music: you bet I'm gonna hear those songs on loop over and over and over✨✨✨ for a loooooong time baby 🎶🎶🎶🎶💞💞
Story plot and romance:....................im so devastated 💀 and kind of disappointed😭
Ok regardless of what I going to say now, this movie is fantastic and deserves success so it can have a sequel that could fix everything Im about to rant about now 🫠🥲😅👉👈. Big massive Spoilers down here👇👇, you have been waaaaaarned:
So this movie took 7 years to be made and I need it to have the greatest success so we can have a sequel sooner than that because there are so many things to fix😤😤:
First there's a lot of unexplained lore, the demons: Jinu was a human turned into a demon by the big bad flames thing and Rumi is half demon because her dad was a demon we get absolutely ZERO explanation about this, was the father a human turned demon? 🤔Was it demonborn? 🤔 The other Saja boys are demonborn or demonturned ? The big bad flames thing didn't know about Rumi because he couldn't control her so that means he didn't know about her father? 🤔He couldn't control her father either? Was the father good or bad? Did he fool Rumi's mother and got her pregnant? Or were they in love? Why are they dead?🤔 Did they fight each other to death or one killed the other and the other died for other reason? Wait... Is he even dead? I mean I'll have to check but we only see the mother's tomb and I kinda assumed the father was dead... So he could be alive?😬 Also we know the mom was part of Celine group of three but I didn't catch who of the girls was her mother and we don't see the other member allegedly alive either we could have used some good old fashioned flashbacks here...😑😑😑
Another thing the other two girls also have issues about their pasts but is explained very fast and shallowly and we don't know how Celine chose them to be hunters, we know Mira is the black sheep of her family and is affected by it thinking she doesn't "belong" and same with Zoey, she feels divided because she is Korean but was raised in America so is like two different worlds to her and she is a people pleaser... Ect... The point is the same no flashbacks to explain anything at all🙄🙄🙄. Celine is also... She is very important but she is almost not there, she apparently raised Rumi, she is traumatized by Rumi's mom death, she is apparently incapable to love all Rumi because of her demon part and made her feel like a mistake... There's no retaliation about this, she doesn't appear again after having that breakdown In front of Rumi, we know nothing about her past either 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
Also... Look I'm a person in love with romance and happy endings and even if this movie is so good... I still feel SCAMMED... 😭😭😭😡This isn't like Arcane or The prequel of the hunger games... I can accept bittersweet or devastating endings with those cause the who story is basically preparing you for the worst🥲🥲 but this movie vibes actually gave me the hope of a happy ending for both and it became a slap in my face...🥺🥺 I'm not recovering from this emotional damage... 🥺🥺I actually regret watching it because now I need to watch something knew to be obsessed but with a happy happy ending to forget about this... At least until I get a sequel... I can't believe Jinu died that way! And the other Saja boys... They didn't get a development beyond being props for Jinu with pretty faces! I mean I get that they are 5 and probably we would need a series but shit! They got obliterated like nothing before that could happen! And speaking of them... That trailer scammed me too! I mean... I'm not the only one right? Everyone Shipped Zoey with the abs guy because she reacted strongly about him, Mira too but more secondary and suddenly Zoey was infatuated with the guy that has his eyes covered and Mira is obsessed with the pink haired abs dude? I hate it 😤😤, they sold me something in the trailer and the movie gave me the though pink girl shipped with the pink tough guys and cute girl shipped with the cute guys that don't even talk! And made me watch how she sees him under his bangs and say: oh you are totally my type! Anyway*kills * WHAT THE FUCK??? ☹️I only like the tough with the tough and the cute with the cute with the PPGXRRB thank you very much because in general I like contrast 😭😭
Anyway like I said if they wanted to make us cry with drama they could have sacrificed a regretful Celine and saved Jinu... The demons supposedly were oppressed by the big bad flames thing so they could have been set free!! 😭😭😭😭😭 I need a sequel to fix this! Also I can't believe Zoey and Mira didn't get to meet the bird and the tiger... 🥲
And that's all... I need a sequel so my boys get resurrected and to talk about Celine and Rumi's mother and demon father, who knows... Maybe he is a powerful demon who is actually alive and can resurrect the saja boys... I just hope it doesn't take other 7 years...

Dunno if you're only interested in thinking about ISAT related sillies, but I've been thinking of Siffrin's love of plays and poetry mixed with my love of musicals! It's got a script and there's stage settings so people walk the same paths and say the same things every time, but it's still performance art! There's still a magic in every moment and potential for new meaning and change- and that's before you think of how the people times and places also inherently shape things. Do you have any thoughts about what the ISAT party + newly adopted Nille feel/think about traditional plays?
Mirabelle enjoys them as much as any other sort of media, I think! She's more concerned with genre and character than format. It's too bad you can't easily re-experience a play like you can a book, but! That just makes it all the more special to see one! She took an acting class once, and even though she was only a minor background character, being on stage made her so nervous that she messed up her only line. But! That just makes it all the more impressive how brave and talented professional actors are!!
Isabeau loves them as a visual medium. The costumes! The set! The blocking! In the past he would've just said the play was pretty, but these days he will come out of the theater gushing about the visual symbolism. Mira's like "What did you think of the plot though?" and he's like "Oh, the plot? Yeah it was great, it was really clever how they foreshadowed the fall of the prince by tearing his cloak directly through the royal insignia in act one, especially because the blow would have killed him if his servant hadn't intervened; it's just like how holding onto the throne would have led to his death, meaning his servant saved him once again by removing him from power!"
Odile's fine with them. She prefers the private experience of a book, but going out and doing something with friends is a different kind of nice! It's fun to tease everyone about their reactions afterwards. And if she cried at one too once no she didn't. :|
Bonnie likes the action! A story you can watch! Except sometimes Siffrin picks boring ones that are mostly people standing around and talking to themselves and Bonnie isn't even allowed to run around instead. So, hit or miss for them. Every couple of years the kids in Bambouche put on a play, and last time Bonnie got to be a pirate, and it was awesome even though they had to be so careful to not actually whack the other kid with their sword.
Nille likes them a lot! Plays are maybe her favorite way to be told a story; it's so direct and clear and multi-sensational, you really get to immerse yourself in it. She often does gestures and voices while telling stories herself, it just makes it easier to follow! She was so proud of Bonnie when they got to be a pirate and only actually whacked the other kid with their sword for real during practice a couple times.
Siffrin loved the escapism. Stories are so grand, and everything that happens in them is so meaningful. A play ends the same way each time you watch it, yet you're still on the edge of your seat, swept up in the world the actors have conjured! Plus, seeing a play was the best way to kill an evening, sitting somewhere safe and comfortable while getting a little more familiar with the local language and culture. They liked experiencing unique small plays! They liked seeing how a world-famous play would get translated and adapted for different countries! They liked attending the same production three nights in a row and seeing if they could catch any little differences!
Post-canon... He's definitely not going to watch the same one three nights in a row. And not any that he has basically memorized, either. And maybe not the entire thing yet, maybe he has to leave closer to the beginning than the intermission a couple times. But!! Siffrin loves plays, he remembers that about himself, and even after everything, he can't help but love the familiar. So. He's working towards being able to be himself again.
Loop would rather get crushed by the king again than step foot in a theatre~!

Processing through Fourth Wing's Ending thoughts with me Part 4 with SPOILERS!!! (& other 3 post summaries + some Iron Flame theories)
So:
I think Xaden is gonna have a long journey in winning Violet back (as he should, she deserves to be fought for & respected in boundaries). Though it’s also a little hard to watch knowing where this all comes from & it’s a little mixed up/misdirected.
Speaking of misdirection Dain Aetos has some explaining to do, unless I read that wrong; if he intentionally sent Violet & Liam off to their deaths thanks to his betrayal… nope. No.
I am utterly destroyed over Liam & dreading the aftershocks of it… meeting his sister is going to make me cry & I will protect that baby with my life.
Brennan also has some explaining to do, backstory to give, etc.
So mostly I’m ruined and this book is gonna ruin me even more and then it’ll be time to cry with Onyx Storm… so… yeahhh
I am dying to know what the deal is with Lilith Sorrengail… she can’t truly have meant to get her children killed can she? Is she a part of the rebellion somehow? And what was the deal with Violet’s dad? Plus a lesser but still prominent question: what does Mira know? I get the feeling it’s not much… but I am curious all things considered how many more secrets that family holds.
Violet included in the latter as I wonder if the poison affected her memory, powers, etc. it seemed to be a different situation (to the level I was worried she’d turn Venin or something). Have her powers changed with Andarna growing? — WHY DID ANDARNA GROW? How long was she asleep for? What does that make the powers now? … also morbid question I don’t want the answer to but have a fear of learning: if Tairn dies could Andarna keep Violet alive?.. I just have a bad feeling about one of her dragons all things considered. — I’m just scared of who’s going to die next book since clearly they are not afraid to kill the ones I love.
Not important, probably fine, but how’s Rhi? I miss my bestie girl… where is she? What’s up babe? Will I get my crew back? Please tell me she and Riddoc did no betraying.😅😅
And of course between characters and secrets and the final chapter being Xaden’s perspective: what are the many stories he has yet to tell? What’s the deal with his mom? What’s all those one line mentions of things to catch Violet up on?.. please tell me we resume in time so it’s not 5 chapter of brief references & 0 explanations?
I have a bad feeling the robed Venin are someone we know or a bigger deal… also probably Dain’s dad being evil… and some big horrible betrayal upcoming and hurting my babies so not looking forward to that.
Mostly it’ll be fun to see what another year looks like… especially when Xaden graduates… and is tethered to Violet who is going to probably hate him & fill the book with angst… so I’m gonna have to strap in for a bump ride I suppose. We shall see! And no spoilers please these questions are rhetorical/hypothetical😂 though if anything happens to Liam’s little sister give me a heads up please🙃
Finally, in review of the first book:
I love Violet. Her heart is her first power, I love the brave fierce way she loves, and has a true compass for goodness… the way she didn’t blink at rebellion if it was right; she processed that extraordinarily fast & it says a lot as to her as a character. I love her wit, which is honestly awe striking and a superpower in itself and we just LOVE a smart heroine. She is also an awesome representation for the EDS/Chronic Illness community and FMC’s in general, which I greatly appreciated (especially for how relatable she managed to be not only for the disability community, but young identifying women who get called “crazy” or “not believed”, kids who are bullied (though this book is not for kids😅😂) and just generally speaking esp. for being fantasy fiction… she’s funny, she’s a mood, and her POV was great).
On the note of representation: I also loved the way they did adaptations (such as the saddle for example: because she did the work, and it’s just not accessible, so why not make it functional? The debate she has of using it or not resembles conversations I’ve had with many people when it comes to mobility aids, they worry about people seeing, about people thinking them less capable, about the mentality of “power through it” when really it makes more sense just to use the help you have when you need it… it’s not an act of weakness or lesser). The way Rhi even tries to compliment it, to encourage her, and the agency it still gives Tairn & even Andarna, who’s a friggin time-stopping dragon (she’s certainly not weak even if she is not as “strong”—not the word I’m looking for as the other dragons, she’s still a dragon) and she too uses the help!
And the dynamics they have within chronic illness relationships… from the over-protective: I CAN DO IT ON MY OWN many people end up with in siblings & previous caregivers. To the truth that there are some things you cannot do on your own and that’s okay even if your never okay with it. To the way Xaden not once thinks less of Violet for it or gives her special treatment; he is fair to each of them (well as fair as Xaden can be amid murder school). Or the way Dain’s comfort quickly turns into a stinging degradation even if it’s well-meaning & frankly valid (she may very well get herself killed there, he’s not wrong; but he also could, and she could die just as easily getting sent back) it’s her choice, and she does a damn good job honestly. And they try to give agency to Violet in that where they can and I appreciated that.
I love Tairn a lot, especially in character dynamics like his humor & protective affection for Violet in reminding her she is worthy & also please don’t die. He loves a lot, especially for such a “scary, tough” dragon. There’s a strength to that sort of love. And of course Andarna who is a fierce, brave, loving, joyous, other half to Violet’s soul… how could you not love her?
Xaden managed to avoid some very frequent and infuriating YA love interest tropes that I appreciated and while I won’t claim him to be “perfect” (because I know all YA novels have a problem if we’re gonna make it real world) but for the sake of character I actually found him to be not only attractive, intriguing, and entertaining as the classic “rebellious, bad boy, enemies to lovers, angsty brooding burdened softy” but also empowering, fiercely loving, protective but not stifling, and some strong standing points that are needed such as consent, or the why as to how he cares for people. He’s got good reasoning. He’s not needlessly cruel. He also has a cause he is a rebel with a cause, and not some nonsensical brooding, no he has reason. Generally I found him interesting & entertaining without being infuriating. And while he has his issues he’s a very young guy kinda issues? Idk the right way to put it. But I do think him and Violet with trust, and no “forced bodyguard” situations have the potential to be a really awesome couple. I mean he’s pretty much a shadow boi… like it’s fairly simple😂 and she’s the sunny & stormy trope. So, of course I’m an absolute idiot for him and find them sweet.
Also thanks for making the best friend bi! And if I’m correct some non-binary characters too! This book did a good job at trying to give some more representation. And managed to go beyond the basics of YA novels.
Overall it made me laugh it made me cry, I’m not calling it the perfect book but minus killing off one of my favorite characters it was a lot of fun and I look forward to the next one and think this will definitely be a favorite series of all time. And while I’ll process for fuller reviews (not that this isn’t already obnoxiously long). I really enjoyed this one a LOT!
So, off to Iron Flame with our theories, feels, and thoughts we go! Wish me luck! And we’re almost to Onyx Storm so yay for all you long-term fans!
(Should I read slow to avoid waiting a few days inbetween? I’m worried for a cliff-hanger😂)
Oh, and because he deserves to be in here: Yes, Liam was a favorite from day one. He always will be. He was just genuinely good, easy to like, funny, entertaining in his conversations to everyone, depth to the feelings it brought he added layers to many stories, he was kind and loyal… so loyal… somehow even to Violet, even with the lies, he was a good friend and he loved them all a lot. And more than just brawn (though also he was described to be a total heartthrob) he was also smart! And he learned sign language which I always love as someone who grew up speaking ASL for my sisters… he was the best of his class, and frankly just deserved a lot more. Watch Deigh & then him die broke me and I really thought they’d find a way out of it because he just loved his friends so much.😭 And I hate that this is gonna be the pain of the next book… it’s a little too personal for me right now in my own real life with holiday grief & stuff so I totally bawled like a baby… and the fact he said he just wanted to be alive, and see his sister… yeah-not-okay-enough to write this. I shall miss our sweet bb blonde wood carver boi.
Okay, time to go be basic: fall for the shadow guy, root for the FMC & project my life onto her, feel all the ship angst, cry for the fictional sweetheart, & totally fall for whatever the writes me to like/hate & guiltily forgive/hold onto…

PLEASEEE do talk extensively about tua's relationship with mira i'm so curious... i ❤️ complicated relationships with parenthood
augh thank you for asking!!
firstly i think it's important to remember the context for fallout's setting... it's fifty years in the future, yet culturally locked in the 1960s, which means tua is grappling with a lot of expectations for someone who is middle-aged and perceived as female, like the idea that she needs to get married and leave their job to have kids.
tua meanwhile has no goals to get married or have a family. but it IS important to note that this is somewhat a response to a lifetime of feeling ostracized for how she presents. they don't have any family, and being of mixed background means she has been made to feel untethered/unwanted. growing up aware of these things, there never seemed to be room for someone like them in that picture of the american dream, so tua never really learned to want it.
(sidebar but... they supplement whatever loneliness comes of that with her job, which obviously leads to a really unhealthy relationship with her concept of worth. but i digress)
there's also another layer in the fact that tua's mother left her and her father at a very young age, taking infant miriam with her to the west coast. as a child tua came away with the belief that they had done something wrong, that they were too difficult/complicated and their mother couldn't handle her, when in reality their mom was a young mom and didn't know what to do while being so far away from her extended family in mexico. so tua's relationship with motherhood is that, well, they don't want to be a mom because they'd mess it up and be imperfect and couldn't handle it. etc.
(in fact the whole point of the penultimate chapter of act i is that tua learning to love herself is fully realized by coming back to mira and loving her. spoilers lol)
something i especially hope people keep in mind with tua being of mixed background is that she inherently has a different relationship w the concept of gender identity, with concepts of femininity and masculinity, and before the war there is definitely this concept of motherhood that tua absolutely cannot relate to and despises and as consequence despises the expectation that she have children. THEN because tua was so out of touch w their own body from decades of dysphoria they also just did not realize the signs until miriam made them go to the doctor. the fact tua's detachment from her own body means she didn't know she was pregnant until like 3-4 months in is kind of Part Of The Whole Thing!!!!!!
after the war, when tua is allowed to dress the way they want to, present the way she wants to, and there are no expectations for them to live a certain life, she ends up more willing to take on the responsibility of raising mira. a couple years in they do not feel that level of vitriol, BUT they're definitely not interested in having more kids to be clear.
(which ok other sidebar: i will also say doing the research into writing act i helped my dysphoria out a lot too, so it became important to me to present pregnancy/childbirth from a gender neutral perspective and to avoid using any of the weird motherhood = womanhood themes you see a lot. i think by the end of writing act i i had fixed a few of my own personal biases and i find that was invaluable!!)
all in all i really tried to make tua's relationship w/ being pregnant and raising a child as nuanced as possible without falling into the usual tropes around the topic... ultimately tua sees mira as her sister's baby, and sees themself as mira's guardian and not necessarily her parent. because of this, while tua does make an effort to provide for/support mira as she grows up, tua is also just very emotionally distant and standoffish by nature. i wanted tua to feel more like an awkward uncle who is making an attempt to be parental but does not have any natural instincts for it. in the end, mira grows up far closer to nick than to tua - while at the same time ending up exactly like her... always distant, always moving, and always self-isolating.
there might be more to it than that.... but basically it IS complicated and i put a lot of work into avoiding making it seem like everything "clicks" for tua once they have mira when in reality she was so manic they walked across the glowing sea and fought a horde of feral ghouls barehanded. normal new mom things lol

"Memory Prime" review
Tumblr media
Novel from 1988, by Garfield and Judith Reeves-Stevens. It's strange that the title says "the new novel by...", since as far as I know, this was the first Star Trek book of these authors. Chaotic, crazy, convoluted, at times campy and hard to follow, it's also a lot of fun. Even the cover is a "what-the-fuck" moment, with that Spock looking tiredly at the viewer, wearing the trademark Kirk-ripped-shirt.
The story mixes several TOS elements: a conspiracy to kill someone aboard the Enterprise; a mission to rescue Spock that puts everyone's careers in danger; and an obnoxious Commodore that hinders the heroes' efforts. All mixed and enhanced to cinematic level. Apart from all that, the novel expands on the story from "The Lights of Zetar", showing the aftermath of Memory Alpha's destruction. And has Mira Romaine (the guest from that episode) as one of the main characters.
The titular Memory Prime is the new center of knowledge and research for the Federation, and the main node in a network of similar centers, each in a different asteroid. Selected as the place to hold the Nobel prizes, the Enterprise is tasked with bringing scientists from all over the Federation to the ceremony. But things get awry when Starfleet intelligence discovers that one or more of the scientists are targeted for assassination. And to everybody's surprise, the main suspect is... Spock!! On top of that, Starfleet has lost confidence in Kirk, and orders a Commodore to take over the Enterprise during the emergency. So Kirk now has to recover both his First Officer and his ship, while confronted with a thickening web of conspiracy. There's something of pulp fiction about the cackling villains, killer robots, and constant plot twists and cliffhangers. But surprisingly, there's also an element of more serious science fiction, with the introduction of the Pathfinders (artificial intelligences that have developed their own worldview), and the discussions about computer science. The chapters dealing with the Pathfinders show a fascinating and alien perspective, that may very well be classified as "cyberpunk". It's possible that something of this owes more to TNG than TOS. The final reveal about who was behind the assassination, the real target of it, and the motives, were actually unexpected.
As for the characters, Kirk gets the spotlight and most heroic deeds (so it's no wonder that these same authors got to co-write the Shatnerverse novels later). And of course Spock is central to the plot, though absent during a good chunk of the story. But Scotty also gets a larger-than-usual role, and picks up his romance with Romaine. While Uhura has one of her most badass moments when confronting the Commodore. Also, everyone has crazy, crazy fight scenes: from Kirk defeating a robot with bullfighter techniques (and utterly annihilating his shirt in the process), to Spock locking in a mind-meld combat, or McCoy... attacking with hypos.
In summary, a pretty exciting action adventure, with humorous scenes that are actually funny, and some food-for-thought concerning AI and the fainting distinction between human and machine. Even if the plot can get messy and even ridiculous at times.
Spirk Meter: 9/10*. Kirk is really distressed by Spock's framing and incarceration, and spends most of the novel focused on rescuing him no matter what. Even if this means the end of his career and losing the Enterprise; Spock comes as his first priority. He doesn't doubt his innocence for a moment, either, while others in the crew have some reservations. And whenever Spock's in physical danger, Kirk is the first to jump to protect him (even if he himself is a wreck). Kirk is also the only one who truly seems to understand Spock, he can anticipate his thoughts and see his logic, where others only see crazyness. Besides, there's a scene where Kirk faints, and the first thing he says upon waking up is "Spock, Spock...?". And yeah, Spock is there, hovering over him and pushing him gently to lie back in bed.
Though this is clearly a spirky novel and McCoy has a lesser role, there are a few moments with him too. At the beginning, both he and Kirk devise a convoluted plan to keep Spock in the dark about the Nobel ceremony, in the hopes of seeing him smile or at least react when the surprise is revealed. While at the end, McCoy wants to know EVERYTHING about Spock's years in the Academy, once he learns from one of his teachers that he was a bit of a "class clown" back then (for Vulcan standards). And despite Spock's apparent annoyance, Kirk notices a warm expression on him, because of the doctor's antics. Kirk also jumps in front of McCoy and Spock to take a lethal phaser shot instead of them. With the hilarious result that the shot wasn't neither that lethal, nor he took it all that well, considering both Spock and McCoy also end up groaning in bed after a stun.
*A 10 in this scale is the most obvious spirk moments in TOS. Think of the back massage, "You make me believe in miracles", or "Amok Time" for example.

I had been wondering. Do people see Rumi's patterns after the movie? I get that other girls can see them. But other people?? 🤔
If yes. How would they react to it hmmm Also I am so interested how Bobby reacted to the news "oh yeah Rumi is half demon btw"
I like Rumi with those patterns so much I don't know, she looks so pretty 😔
VERY GOOD QUESTION AND I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW THE OFFICIAL ANSWER TO THAT but bc we don't have an official answer, here's how I interpret it. Buckle up though bc this'll be long, so I'll throw it all utc. But tldr I think it's visible to everyone bc she's never learned how to use demon glamour bullshittery. I do agree though her patterns are literally so fcuking beautiful ☹️☹️☹️
Whenever demons disguise themselves as demons, it seems like their patterns are always hidden unless a Hunter sees them, in which case it kinda gets revealed through their sight. We saw this at the very beginning, with the patterns not even there on the flight crew's skin until pointed out. Though it can also be argued that the change from them having clear skin to having patterns could be purposeful to show the difference between normal human perception vs Hunter perception, so this example could just be easily discarded unless you also look into how they didn't even KNOW until Bobby pointed out that the plane was going past the destination
But then we have......NOT the Saja Boys (shock, though honestly they apply to my previous point), but rather the demons disguised as Mira and Zoey. Despite Rumi having Hunter perception, she doesn't even SEE any patterns on their skin. So this is leading me to believe that while Hunters have heightened demon perception, it isn't perfect and that the glamour DOES indeed hide the patterns
What does this have to do with Rumi and her patterns post-movie? Think about it: if Rumi were to have the ability to use the demon glamour, she won't even NEED to cover up her arms and constantly use long sleeves or fear the bathhouse. Not to mention the billboard itself showed Rumi's patterns at the end in full iridescent glow. In South Korea, there's always a certain beauty standard to it—that includes hiding imperfections via makeup and airbrushing and a lot of photo editing. If Rumi's photo was just her normal skin, then okay, there you go. But they're blatantly showing Rumi's patterns. They cannot, for the life of them, cover that shit up bc it's too much compared to moles or wrinkles or a double chin. The cameras didn't catch the Saja Boys' patterns, nor did they capture demon!Zoey and demon!Mira's, yet it captured Rumi's during Takedown
Or. Yk. I could just be tripping balls 🤷‍♀️ there's also that 🤷‍♀️ maybe I'm just overthinking
As for reactions? Realistically public reception would be mixed as hell. Most would be in disbelief at the whole thing—they just saw their idols fucking fly and kill off the Saja Boys. Is this, like, a disbandment stunt? Like what's. What's happening
But further investigation would have them realise like why. Is Rumi glowing. What. Some are gonna think it's an aesthetic stunt, some are gonna be pensive and probably frightened which fair enough, and some are gonna think it's cool asf. International news broadcasters are probably gonna investigate, so's the government before they've been given the NO that money can buy, and everything's on fucking Fire. But eventually it all dies down at some point, as per usual—we'll all think it's crazy as a general consensus before moving on to the newest scandal (probably James Charles again)
Plus let's be honest, not only won't they be the only Hunters in the planet, international governments are all probably covered for this kinda thing via insiders anyway. Literally why wouldn't it? Something about how myths are all from grains of truth and whatever
Bobby? You've seen him!! He doesn't care!! Much!!!!! Like okay maybe the new additiin of Rumi glowing like a cracked disco ball is definitely. Something. But he can work with that! HUNTR/X is still his girls, no matter what happens—literally his greatest shame is if he can't keep them together. He really doesn't care. It'll take some getting used to but at the end of the day this is Still Rumi :3c this is still HUNTR/X, and he'll be damned if he ever decided to think any different just bc of some really colourful patterns on Rumi's skin or her bloodline

Madness - Chapter 4
Edited - 2025.07.02.
Warning: It's a war college so don't read it if you sensitive to violence death etc.
Note: We have finally a "decent" conversation between Xaden and Aelin. And guess what? We have a new nickname. From Xaden. Soo goood. 😍
Enjoy :)
The sparring ring is where riders are made or broken. After all, no respectable dragon would choose a rider who cannot defend themselves, and no respectable cadet would allow such threat to the wing to continue training.
-Major Afendra’s guide to the Riders Quadrant
(Unauthorized Edition)
“Elena Sosa, Brayden Blackburn.” Captain Fitzgibbons reads from the death roll, flanked by two other scribes on the dais as we stand in silent formation in the courtyard, squinting into the early sun.
This morning, we’re all in rider black, and there’s a single silver four-pointed star on my collarbone - the mark of a first-year - and a Fourth Wing patch on my shoulder. We were issued standard uniforms yesterday: summer-weight, tight-fitted tunics, pants, and accessories after the Parapet was over, but not flight leathers. There’s no point handing out the thicker, more protective combat uniforms when half of us won’t be around come Threshing in October. The armored corset Mira made us isn’t regulation, but I fit right in among the hundreds of modified uniforms around me.
After the last twenty-four hours and one night in the first-floor barracks, I’m starting to realize that this quadrant is a strange mix of we-might-die-tomorrow hedonism and brutal efficiency in the name of the same reason.
“Jace Sutherland,” Captain Fitzgibbons continues to read, and the scribes next to him shift their weight. “Dougal Luperco.”
I think we’re somewhere in the fifties, but I’ve lost count. This is the only memorial the names will get - the only time they’ll be spoken of in the citadel.
There are one hundred and fifty-six of us on the first floor of the dormitory building, our beds arranged in four neat rows in the open space. Private rooms are like flight leathers - you don’t get one until you survive Threshing.
“Simone Casteneda.” Captain Fitzgibbons closes the scroll. “We commend their souls to Malek.” The god of death.
I blink. Guess we’re closer to the end than I thought.
There’s no formal conclusion to the formation, no final moment of silence. The names on the scroll leave the dais with the scribes, and the quiet is broken as the squad leaders turn and begin addressing their squads.
“Hopefully you all ate breakfast, because you’re not going to get another chance before lunch,” our squad leader says. His name is Theo, as we learned after yesterday’s events. At first impression, he seems like a pretty calm guy. He talked about the rules, but not like Dain, based on what Violet said last night. I swear, the rules are his gods.
In our squad, there are third- and second-years besides us, both marked and non-marked ones. We’re a really mixed group.
Yesterday, I didn’t have a chance to observe our squad mates because after Theo’s briefing, I went to find Violet. We succeeded in securing beds next to each other - Rhiannon too. We talked about a lot of things, mainly because we’re not in the same squad. I can’t be with her for every lesson since our schedules are different. Vi helped me memorize the order of my lessons. It’s lucky that at least I have a good memory.
“Second- and third-years, I’m assuming you know where to go,” Theo continues as the scribes wind their way around the edge of the courtyard to my right, heading back to their quadrant.
There’s a murmur of agreement from the senior cadets ahead of us. As first-years, we’re in the back two rows of the small square that makes up our squad.
“First-years, at least one of you should have memorized your academic schedule when it was handed out yesterday,” Theo’s voice booms over us. “Stick together. I expect all of you to be alive when we meet this afternoon in the sparring gym.”
We only have gym twice a week, so there should be enough time to help Violet learn a bit more self-defense. She’s smart and quick. She can do it.
I’m more worried about my own lessons. I have to put in so many extra hours to keep up with our reading materials. Before Basgiath, Violet helped me study. She often read the texts aloud while I tried to memorize their content. It’s easier that way.
When I try to read on my own, it often frustrates me. I try to read, but I just can’t. It’s a really slow process. But because of this, I’ve gotten good at making notes. I only write down what’s really important, because I’ll have to read it again.
I hope the lessons will be tolerable. I can’t have Violet with me all the time. It’s the same for her. She needs to practice her skills before we have to face the Gauntlet - the vertical obstacle course they told us we’ll have to master when the leaves change color in two months.
If we can complete the final Gauntlet, we’ll walk through the natural box canyon above it that leads to the flight field for Presentation, where this year’s dragons willing to bond will get their first look at the remaining cadets. Two days after that, Threshing will occur in the valley beneath the citadel.
I glance around at my new squadmates and can’t help but wonder which of us - if any - will make it to that flight field, let alone to that valley.
Don’t borrow tomorrow’s trouble.
“And if we’re not?” one smart-ass first-year behind me asks.
I don’t bother looking; instead, I turn to Liam and roll my eyes at the stupid girl’s comment.
He snickers but doesn’t say anything.
“Then I won’t have to be concerned with learning your name, since it will be read off tomorrow morning,” Theo answers with a shrug.
A third-year ahead of me lets out a snort of laughter.
Yeah, I totally understand you. That was funny. Or maybe my sense of humor just sucks.
“You have about twenty minutes to get to class,” Theo says to the seven of us first-years. “Fourth floor, second room on the left in the academic wing. Get your shit together and don’t be late.”
Our squad breaks apart around the same time the others, transforming the courtyard from an orderly formation into a crowd of chatting cadets. The second- and third-years walk off in another direction, including Theo.
“Go, grab your stuff and meet me here, okay?” Liam says.
“You’d be lost without me anyway,” I reply, heading towards the doors.
“And here I thought you’d be kinder after a good night’s sleep, Snappy.” He sighs.
“Damn, I told you to drop that ridiculous nickname,” I hiss at him.
“Or what? We’re squadmates; you can’t hurt me,” he winks.
“No. I can’t kill you. It’s completely different,” I say, smiling.
“Whooah, look at that - you can smile.”
“Shut up. Go grab your pack, or I’ll leave you here.” I roll my eyes.
I go to the dormitory where my bed is and pick up my rucksack from underneath it.
When I walk out the door, I see Violet in the center of the courtyard, and her expression makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. She’s looking at somebody.
Oh shit.
Xaden Riorson is watching her with narrowed eyes, the sleeves of his uniform rolled up over his massive arms, which remain folded across his chest. The warning in his relic-covered arm is on full display as a third-year next to him says something that he blatantly ignores.
Is that Garrick?
There are maybe twenty feet between us. My fingers twitch, ready to grab one of the blades sheathed at my ribs.
His head tilts as he studies me with those impossibly dark eyes, like he’s deciding where I’m most vulnerable.
So he noticed me when I exited the dormitory. Interesting.
He smirks, then his attention shifts to Violet and Dain, who emerges from behind the pillar.
Shit, do they have to be so obvious? Someone might misinterpret it.
Violet says something to Dain, then his gaze snaps up as the crowd thins out around us.
„I already knew your parents are tight,” Xaden calls out, a cruel smile tilting his lips. „But do you two have to be so fucking obvious?”
I told you, I sigh as the few cadets still in the rotunda turn to look at them.
„Let me guess,” Xaden continues, glancing between Dain and Violet, „childhood friends? First loves, even?”
„I expected you to do a better job hiding where your affections lie, Aetos.” Xaden moves, walking down the steps.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
I need to do something.
„Come on, Riorson, you have eyes - now use them. You really think Violet and Dain? I thought you were smarter than that.” I sigh with feigned disappointment.
„Melgren?” He turns to me. „What are you? A watchdog? Always at Violet’s legs?”
Fucking asshole.
„Now you’re trying to insult me? How kind of you.” I smile at him sweetly. „And no. Violet can protect herself. I just don’t like the fact that now everybody thinks they have something between them because of you. I didn’t know you liked to gossip.”
„With this attitude, you won’t last long, Melgren. Throwing insults at everybody who dares to talk to you or Sorrengail.” He tilts his head to the side. „It’s like you’re a fucking ray of sunshine.”
„Then forgive this little sunshine and her friend, because we’ll have a lesson soon, and it would cast a really bad light on us if we were late. Don’t you think, wingleader?” I gesture toward Violet to come with me.
„Hm. Then we should continue our interesting conversation later,” he says slowly with a smirk, and I have a bad feeling about it. „And don’t forget to watch your back, Sunshine.” He turns and walks away.
Sunshine? A nickname? Really?
Damn, he’s handsome for sure, but at the same time an enermous prick.

please note that there's a bunch of notes in this post because i was still in Act 3 at the beginning of this post lol
-i'm not playing it rn but i have decided to break my 'no looking stuff up' rule so i know where to go to make Sif rember what they say when carving stuff
[WRITING TUMBLR POST ALURIA NOTE: i later looked up maps of the House to help me keep track of stuff lol]
-ok now i know. i like figuring things out myself but i could not fucking remember lol.
-i have a really long car ride so. MORE ISAT
-title theme shout-out
-Sif tripped on a rock. "you're clumsy and not at all threatening and overpowered compared to them!" :(
-they almost forgot to catch Isa :(
-dang, Siffrin didn't say nya this time D:
-hehe they hit it back. one could say it's a... COUNTER-attack B)
-SIFFRIN GHOST ON THE WAY TO THE DORM
-WAIT FUCK DID I FORGET THE SHARPENING STONE
-fuck it i was planning to loop back after finding out what to say anyway
-ah don't i also need to find more i fo on the King somewhere? eh i can do that on the next loop... so much to keep track of...
-LMAO. THE PHRASE SIF SAYS. "please don't look bad please don't look bad please don't look bad" BIG FUCKING MOOD TBH
-Sif on his way to talk to their tools and project while carving or sharpening:
-aight time to die lmao
-Loop my belooped
-hm... it's Loop's job to remember Siffrin's mistakes...
-"you don't have to remember to yell' always gets me :(
-I FOUND THE ARTICLES
-ok so currently i'm thinking that the King and Siffrin are probably from the same place. which may or may not be where Loop is from and/or the disappearing island and/or connected to the color thing.
this game has a lot of weird shit going on.
-Bonnie doesn't know what a star is
-OH FUCK NO. AM I GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THE OBSERVATORY. I'M LEAVING THAT FOR A LATER LOOP.
-another ghost :0
-ISAT: 📚
ISAT if Siffrin could pick locks: 📕
-WHAT. "you used to find them disgusting, but someone you knew loved them, so you tried them."
"someone you knew?"
"who?"
O_O
-aw, Isa hugged Mira on this bathroom trip
-"you wish for rest" yeah...
-"please be sharp, please be sharp, please be sharp"
-the Keyknife is now the Knifekey. WAIT. THIS MEANS IN THE FUTURE I CAN DO OTHER SHIT ON FLOOR 3. HELL FUCKING YES.
-wait. OH C'MON. boooooooo
-i picked malanga fritters and almost skipped past something that seems important. they remind Siffrin of his parents? :0 their head hurt...
-"BECAUSE YOU FORCED THEM TO!" :(
-"where r u from" "no u"
-JUST FUCKING CONFESS ISA FJHDHEJKSMXMDKSKS
-*sighs* guess i should talk to her. actually... what if i called Loop?
-huh. can't call them here.
-"i just hope that one day you might learn" WAIT THAT'S DIFFERENT- wait nvm i got things mixed up in my head :(
-"in this moment, you were loved"
-"that was a nice rehearsal" OH FUCK.
-i just skipped from loop 37 to 40
-time to kill myself with a banana! oop- *plantain*
-"you broke your head open on a rock" it did not use to describe it like that.
-wait. Sif. if you're annoyed there isn't a more dignified way in the village to loop. just kill yourself. you have a knife. just fucking kill yourself to loop forward.
-...fuck what the hell is this game doing to my thought process
-ok what should i look for in this room...
-"BUT YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO READ IT" in large font... :(
-:( Sif is trying to remember something and it's tied to the stars
-aight new thing to ask the king time to get myself killed via tear yippee
-seems like the King wants Siffrin to remember their home... "something we've all forgotten" this is definitely about the disappearing island and the colors
-i need to go to the library and find the books on it.
-hey isn't Rock also called Protection Craft? kinda interesting that the King has it
-damn i died to the King because of timing bullshit ToT
-"one more time."
-huh... it evades active remembrance
-it had a belief centered on the Universe...
-need to figure out why the King is obsessed with Vaugarde
-freezing something perfect in time... do i need to find one of those Time Craft books again?
-gonna loop forward to the King
-"even the King feels easy to fight, now"
"i still can't say it" the name of their home. he wants to be able to say the name of his and Siffrin's home. ouagh this game is going to leave me emotionally devastated ToT
-fuck i missed the option to ask Odile if she was going to continue her fake research on a loop where i didn't spend time with her
-"can we group hug after i talk to the Head Housemaiden?" oh?
-DAMMIT ODILE INTERRUPTED ISA THIS TIME
-time to talk to her. again. again and again and again and again
-"you can start breaking down now" lol
-"the curtain falls" DAMN
-"HERE AGAIN?" woah Loop why so aggressive?
-"i'm too lazy to open up new dialogue choices" lol
-hm... show Loop the souvenirs...
-wait huh. in another loop this lady in Dormont said she has no siblings but now she has a sister. odd...
-:O THE LONG THINGY-THING
-huh. Loop reacted kinda weirdly to the kid's doodle
-hey what if i gave Isa the flower at the end?
-FUCK I FORGOT THE FUCKING ROCK I GOT TOO COMFY. this is embarrassing
-hey hold up the theme that plays when everybody's discussing the country in the library is the same song that plays when Loop is recapping things
-hold up. the King was in Corbeaux. Corbeaux is where the House doing the color research is.
-took the photo. PERFECTLY FROZEN IN TIME
-oh fuck
-calling Loop
-hm. the star-shaped gate that's locked. is the passcode the name of Siffrin and the King's home?
-we're gonna use a bomb i guess
-i asked the King where he's from and uh... now a slowed-down version of the song is playing...
-what the fuck
-Sif and the King are going to die, aren't they?
-"BUT IT'S ALL GONE!"
-i'm going to loop forward and try to talk to the King. again.
-*sighs* the peel is so dorky
-FUCK I FORGOT TO EQUIP THE MEMORY OF KNIFEKEY
-wait. asking him nicely. FUCKING WORKED???
-"The Universe leads... we can only follow"
-FUCK. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. OF COURSE. OF COURSE. OF COURSE. GO FUCK YOURSELF.
-so the King knows about the loops, even though he can't remember them.
-"Wish Craft" :0
-WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO.
-BONNIE NO
-NO NO NO NO UNHAND THEM
-BONNIE NO BONBON NO
-okay. i looped back. Bonnie is okay again. i just need to kill the King.
-hold the fuck up. it says i'm in Act 4. bad things mark the end of acts. Act 1 ended with me getting in the loops. Act 2 ended with killing the King failing. Act 3 ended with...?
-please don't let Bonnie be dead somehow
-THEY'RE OKAY THEY'RE OKAY
-...the little moments of time rewinding seem to correlate with Sif wishing to go back
-:O I CAN READ THE BOOKS NOW
-THE GATE. OH FUCK YEAH
-fucking hell when did i get (Just attack) because DAMN. Sif is so fucking done with everything.
-WISH CRAFT
-i just fumkign one-shot the Nostalgie on floor 1. "just attack" indeed
-"you need a break" :(
-Sif is like constantly teetering on the edge of a mental breakdown
-let's see how well they do against a boss
-DAMN
-ok so what the fuck was Euphrasie doing before shit hit the fan? and why does she blame herself for Siffrin's situation?
-i just realized something funny. if Vaugarde is fantasy France. and Siffrin and the King are from an island north of Vaugarde. DOES THAT MAKE SIFFRIN FANTASY BRITI- *gets shot*
-gate time.
-what was the question? what was the answer?
-"couldn't i just create another me? someone who'd understand?" ok so somebody's a clone got it.
-Loop? i should talk to Loop
-ok i guess i'll have to be like "hey Loop are you a clone?" in person (plot twist Sif's a clone :P)
-"i saw a weird shade" WAIT HOLD UP YEAH THAT'S SUS THAT SIFFRIN FUCKING SAW RED. OK THAT WAS DIAGETIC. FIRST COLOR IN THE WHOLE GAME.
-gonna kill the King again, talk to Loop, then loop again forward to Floor 2 to read the color theory book
-WAIT SIFFRIN HASN'T CRIED ONCE THIS WHOLE GAME BITCH REPRESSION IS NOT HEALTHY!
-"especially if she knows" Sif. did you forget Odile's name. OH FUCK
-"HOW BLINDINGLY WONDERFUL, FOR A ROLL OF TOILET PAPER TO BE THE ONLY HOPE YOU HAVE LEFT RIGHT NOW!" this would be so funny if not for the context
-"you wish for eternity" WAIT HOLD UP
-SIFFRIN IS USING WISH CRAFT. AND WHEN THEY PRAY TO THE CHANGE GOD STATUES THEY SEND THEIR WISHES. ARE THE BUFFS AND THE KEYKNIFE THE RESULT OF WISH CRAFT?
-hey Siffrin uses a more shy and sad portrait for the 'thank you' afterwards now :(
-FUCK I FORGOT TO SHARPEN THE KNIFE
-y'know what it's fine i have the bomb
-hey Sif i think what happened last time might've uh. traumatized you? ;-;
-welp. i used the bomb. it was anticlimactic.
-"i wonder how this country looks from the outside" *proceeds to imply that the time loop only affects Vaugarde* hold the fucking phone
-ok tho srsly Siffrin is in what looks like *extreme* duress
-oh damn Sif has different portraits for the 'you should disappear' bit. less smug and determined, more... *haunted*
-dang, can't give Isa the flower at the end
-*sigh* gonna talk to her again
-"the actor has become the director"
-there's a lot more theatre comparisons than there used to :(
-woah Siffrin you are weirdly enthusiastic to see Loop
-time to loop forward to read the books woooo
-Sif i am very concerned about this dialogue portrait. your enthusiasm is *desperate*
-hey something funny: people wish on stars
-this game has a LOT of motifs i love: wishes, stars, time, memories, etc.
-hm... what is Siffrin's 'ritual' when doing the wish-y thing?
-:0 a wish is trapping Siffrin?
-what if they're actually being trapped by their own desires or smth? like some sort of- WAIT. WHAT IF LOOP IS TRAPPING THEM SOMEHOW???
-i am in conspiracy mode i think
-moving forward to get to the library
-Siffrin is now level 85...
-maybe a wish is how the island disappeared?
-FAVOR TREE IS WISH CRAFT WOOOOOOOO
-i think the way Sif wished was from something they learned as a kid
-3, 6, 7, 13, all are numbers with significance
-HEY LOOP LOOK WHAT I LEARNED
-welp time to die ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-ok what is in that one house in the main part of Dormont
-hm. Euphrasie was apparently asking everybody what they wished for. she probably realized something tied to Wish Craft was wrong...
-maybe the list in Euphrasie's office cataloguing the names was categorizing based on wishes?
-looping forward
-"you're a living comedy sketch"
-my guess is that the wishing to save Vaugarde enabled Siffrin to loop so they could defeat the King, but something went horribly wrong, thus causing the loops to keep going
-ugh i need to talk in person. tear time!
-a sped-up version of the happy song after you beat the King is playing and Siffrin has the desperate enthusiasm portrait...
-Siffrin, you already tried saving Vaugarde.
-"maybe you don't loop because you die... but because you feel like there would be no reason to go on, maybe?" makes sense to me. Siffrin doesn't have anything to look forward to after defeating the King.
-"something that, to you, feels on the same level of hopelessness as death? on the same level as the world ending?" me when the time loop wants me to get therapy:
-hey Sif you just looped. right in front of Loop.
-looping forward to the King.
-Odile's realizing she's missing something. too bad she'll forget it. maybe i should try making the others really suspicious of me on a future loop
-"please don't interrupt" :(
-this game has me constantly on some variety of edge and i love it
-maybe this time Isa will get to confess?
-the static is starting and i haven't even talked to Euphrasie
-damn i did a minor loop back :(
-talking to her won't work. it can't work.
-STOP SAYING THE SAME DAMN THING STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT
-I WAS RIGHT AS TO HOW EXACTLY SIF GOT STUCK
-the wish is broken. MAYBE IF I DO SOMETHING ELSE MAYBE IF HE'S DEFEATED SOME OTHER WAY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
-OH FUCK. so Sif's current theory is that somehow he has to deal the final blow
-"You just need to defeat the King on your own" BUT YOU NEED THE OTHERS TO DEFEAT HIM?
-also damn the way Siffrin's thoughts spiral into a mess is a mood.
-i am now in Act 5.
-:( the Dormont music is slow now
-Sif's portrait in the menus has changed again, there is nothing in the body text of his profile, and their title is now "The Lost One" :(
-wait. the Change God statue is glitchy now and i can't get buffs there anymore
-Sif is like perpetually pissed off
-aaaand now Mira's upset
-Sif is going to fuck things up with the others as well, won't they?
-i think Odile's gonna figure out that Sif is in a time loop
-i feel like i'm in a horror game right now. well. i've felt like that for a while. but i am fucking terrified of Siffrin right now. Siffrin you need help please they only want to help you you can't bottle up everything or it only ends up worse
-the battle theme is slowed...
-sometime i should write a crossover fanfic where Rose Lalonde picks apart Siffrin, i think it would go very interestingly
-unrelated but i just realized Isa has a hair banana hehehe... i need to cling to levity while in this hell
-uh. dude. why is your dialogue looping
-SIFFRIN! I. I KNOW YOU'RE STRUGGLING BUT ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS HELP YOU AND YOU KEEP HURTING THEM PLEASE THEY ONLY WANT TO HELP YOU I KNOW VULNERABILITY IS HARD BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE THEY'VE BEEN *TRYING* AND THEY'VE BEEN NOTHING BUT KINDA TO YOU AND IT HURTS TO SEE THIS SIFFRIN BECAUSE YOU KEEP GETTING WORSE AND WORSE AND IT'S TERRIFYING!
-fuck man this game is getting me to care so much about this guy. Mental Illness Simulator 2023
-the irony of Sif calling Isa a coward who projects confidence but not backing it up... Siffrin is projecting.
-and yet despite all that... Isa still ended the conversation rather kindly ToT
-Loop seems really unsure and yeah. past me would not believe this but i am siding with the starheaded bitch.
-...Loop fucking LIED
-Sif is going alone
-oh dear the music
-most of the memories are gone. and the skills...
-level 99
-wait the room layout is fucked
-a Sif ghost but with a black hat instead
-"you're hungry" :(
-so. i think Sif just hallucinated his party members.
-"your stomach hurts. you feel cold." :(
-the world is glitching and breaking haha and i am scared i'm scared i'm scared Siffrin *please*
-how is the photo event occurring if i'm on my own?
-*oh no*
-ok brb i need to take a break
-ok back from my break and refreshed! now i can go back to Siffrin's Descent Into Hell
-entered Mira's room. her hallucination did the "head is covered in darkness creepily" thing...
-Odile...
-i'm in the Keyknife room except now the background is the post-King fight background...
-the feeling of the grim march towards a specific goal reminds me of the Undertale genocide route haha...ha...ha... ...
-stomachache, headache, and the smell of sugar...
-no more running, only a slow, slow, walk to the end
-"you've trapped this country in time even more surely than i have" oh fuck
-not often that a game makes me terrified enough for me to feel my heartbeat...
-red.
-his sprite is on the game over?
-where the FUCK am i?
-spooky shadow Siffrin
-OOO DO I GET TO FIGHT A MANIFESTATION OF SIFFRIN'S MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES?
-hm what does mal du pays mean- oh :( it translated to homesickness :(
-you can't fight your own shadow
-"it's not like you haven't let me die before, right?" *OH FUCK*
-you broke your promise didn't you?
-red
-dude i think the depression is collecting its due. loops and loops of bottling your shit up has been unhealthy and now you are paying for it :(
-"if something has been forgotten by everyone, has that thing ever existed?" FUCK
-red
-more red
-BRIGHT RED
-if i had a nickel for every rpg i liked where a monochrome manifestation of the main character's mental illness taunted him in a scripted fight, i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. bonus: the dialogue box calls Mal du Pays 'something'! oh and both games open with a content warning i guess
y'know maybe the fact i found out about this game from a blogger that i followed for Omori stuff should've been some sort of indicator.
-"the sadness within you is right" FUCK
-OH GOOD SIF DIDN'T DIE THE FAMILY CAME TvT
-"a weird shiny person helped us!" LOOP :D
-AND THE MUSIC IS UPBEAT OH THIS FEELS SO GOOD TvT
-IT HAS THE TITLE SCREEN MOTIF TOO
-i'l have to look up the song later and compare to other themes but i think it might be a medley/remix? i've definitely identified the post-King fight theme and the title theme, probably more i can't clearly identify
-everybody's battle portraits are so bright and happy
-"i still cannot remember its name" :(
-damn. he froze. womp womp
-ok but what about Loop? what's going on with them?
-glitchy background...
-i'm on Act 5. aren't there like 6 acts? idk maybe this can end and Sif can move forward. then again... the last few times. that did not work out.
-haha Sif pls don't die on us rlly tho pls don't
-so slow...
-RED...
-Mal du Pays is following us
-FUCK
-*exhales* ok the darkness is gone
-is it weird that i kinda like this moment more than the moments of closeness with the others in Act 3? maybe cuz it feels more real, somehow... or because for once, Siffrin is the one being vulnerable...
-i think the problem was sticking to the script and treating the others like actors or well... NPCs
-FUCK FUCK FUCK NO NO NO DON'T YOU DARE GO INTO GLITCHY MODE.
-FUCK
-now that they're here they know something is wrong.
-please game please grant Siffrin one small mercy and let the others loop back with him this time
-RED
-uhhhhhhhh
-Sif did you just become your weird sadness self
-woah this is a beautiful scene
-WOAH. now THIS is a battle! and it is *beautiful*. the red and the stars...
-oh fuck. my options are hurt them or self-harm.
-wait are they HEALING ME? :(
-the battle menu simply refers to Siffrin as 'user'
-JGJRJENNDNRJE LMAO ODILE JUST PULLED A CLASSIC MOM MOVE LIKE "don't you dare storm up to your room earlier in time, young man!"
-forced group therapy
-oh, Siffrin's portrait
-i HATE that my options are hurt my friends or hurt myself. and i refuse to let Siffrin hurt their friends. it's... heartbreaking...
-chat i don't think the wish the player chooses was Siffrin's *actual* wish
-:0 hatless Siffrin
-AWWWW THEY'RE HUGGING
-aw... smiling Sif... hugging Bonnie :]
-:0 EVERYBODY IS SO HAPPY IN THE MENU!
-"It's you!!!!" also hey Sif's title is "The Traveler" again!
-"you will stay together for a little while longer" :]
-i love how the lack of hat makes the fact that Siffrin is really short apparent lol
-these new conversations are precious :]
-Odile thinks the fact that Sif loved everybody so much they got himself stuck in a time loop to be cute XD
-NO WAY. IS THIS FINALLY HAPPENING. IS HE FINALLY GONNA SAY IT?
-HELL FUCKING YES!!!!!!!!
-ok i just talked to all the housemaidens and Dormont residents. time to talk to Loop
-...
-maybe Loop was just. a manifestation of the wish...
-:0 THE SILVER COIN? ARE WE GONNA FINSLLY USE THE SILVER COIN?
-TvT
-I BEAT THE GAME :D
-:o Siffrin is no longer on the title screen
