Most people know or have heard of preempted strikes, but in military doctrine there's also something call preempted surrender. The idea, as the name implies, is that if you give the "enemy" every reason to surrender, you'll save yourself time, energy, investment, and lives
Do not preemptively surrender. Yes, things look bleak, particularly if you remember the first djt administration, but don't raise the white flag. Don't let them "win" without any resistance. Personally, I'm going to do everything I can to protect my friends, family and country. To quote Mark Twain, "I won't go down without a fight". I hope you won't either.

On Asari Military Doctrine:
Given that Asari are natural biotics, and what we see of biotics is that a halfway decent barrier can block bullets, I think it's a fair assumption that Asari weapon technology never really got off the ground as a fledgeling species because it had already lost the war between offense and defense. After all, if a halfway decent barrier can stop bullets, a spear isn't going to stand a chance in hell
Similarly, when you can pick up a rock and throw it at mach fuck you at a deer with your brain, you really don't need a spear, though using a sling to conserve calories is a logical development, and the mass driver guns the next logical step from there because they do the same thing without any strain.
However, they still have a martial tradition. But in lieu of developing weapons better able to rip through what might as well be an impenetrable shield, it was focused on developing biotic abilities for overpowering the defense, and stealth for hitting your enemy before their shields can go up.
As such, they wouldn't want to field big armies because that leads to the enemy knowing where you are much sooner and gives them the strategic advantage
The emphasis on surprise attacks that are as strong as you can make them would naturally develop into what we already see from Asari Huntresses. They are a small band of elite biotics who strike as hard and as suddenly as blue lightning

Putin approved Russia’s updated nuclear doctrine
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree approving the country’s updated nuclear doctrine after US President Joe Biden authorised Ukraine to fire long-range missiles deep into Russia.
The doctrine comes into force on Tuesday, 19 November, with an earlier decree on nuclear deterrence policy becoming null and void, according to Russian media.
Among the key conditions for the possible use of nuclear weapons, Russia cited “aggression” by non-nuclear-weapon states backed by nuclear powers. Even the use of conventional weapons could be grounds for a nuclear response, according to the document.
Russia’s adversaries are defined as “individual states and military coalitions that view the Russian Federation as a potential adversary,” as well as those with nuclear weapons or “significant combat capabilities of general-purpose forces.” In other words, Moscow could use nuclear weapons after any member of the military alliances gets involved in the war in Ukraine.
The doctrine update should ensure “that a potential adversary understands the inevitability of retaliation in the event of aggression against Russia and/or its allies,” the document said.
US Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian A. Nichols, confirmed that Biden authorised Ukraine to launch long-range weapons strikes against Russian territory. This was the first official confirmation from a US official following media reports on Sunday.
The previous doctrine, outlined in 2020, stated that Russia could deploy nuclear weapons in the event of a nuclear attack or a conventional attack that threatened the existence of the state.

“Random occurrences cannot explain such devastation, nor can this honestly be called regrettable “collateral damage.” To believe that is to willfully suspend belief and to ignore the nature of the weapons used—and, equally important, it is to ignore Israel’s established military doctrine. The wholesale killing and mangling of over thirteen thousand people, most of them defenseless civilians, and the wanton destruction of the homes and property of hundreds of thousands of people, are in fact fully intentional. They are the fruits of a sinister strategy implemented by the Israeli military at least since the 2006 assault on Lebanon, which goes by the name “Dahiya doctrine.” The doctrine was revealed publicly by Maj. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, who was head of the Northern Command in 2006, and who has been deputy chief of staff of the so-called Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Israeli army, since 2013. After an entire southern suburb of Beirut, known as the Dahiya, had been devastated from the air by troops under his command using two-thousand-pound bombs and other similar ordnance, Eizenkot explicitly laid out what this doctrine entailed in 2008. He stated: “What happened in the Dahiya quarter of Beirut in 2006 will happen in every village from which Israel is fired on. . . . We will apply disproportionate force on it and cause great damage and destruction there. From our standpoint, these are not civilian villages, they are military bases. . . . This is not a recommendation. This is a plan. And it has been approved.”[6] Not only was the strategy precisely the one Israel used in Lebanon in 2006, it is the very same that has now been deployed against Gaza for the third time in the past six years. Israeli military correspondents and security analysts repeatedly reported that the Dahiya doctrine was Israel’s strategy throughout the war in Gaza this past summer.[7] Let us be frank: this is actually less of a strategic doctrine than it is an explicit outline of collective punishment and probable war crimes. Not surprisingly, one found little mention of the Dahiya doctrine whether in statements by U.S. politicians, or in the reporting of the war by most of the mainstream American media, which dwelt on the description of Israel’s actions as “self-defense.” The Arms Export Control Act of 1976 specifies that U.S.-supplied weapons must be used “for legitimate self-defense.”[8] Given this provision of the law, when U.S. officials from the president on down describe Israel’s operations in Gaza as self-defense, they may be doing more than just parroting the line rigorously laid down by Israel and its supporters. They are perhaps also saying this in order to escape legal liability under U.S. law and to avoid potential prosecution for war crimes, alongside the Israeli officials responsible for giving the orders, and the officers and soldiers who actually pull the trigger.”

I think it's interesting that Gortash has a lot of clear plot parallels with Sarevok, something I didn't really appreciate until returning to BG1. But the mercantile empires with dark undersides, the rise to political prominence via business connections and manufactured public terror, even the connections with industry... and of course the Iron Throne. Second verse, a little different from the first.

i love how there's a kind of inadequacy magnification as you go further back in history on the level of individual people. like maybe there's only a few civilizational-scale intelligent (and discovered) smart people at any given time in the world but they add up over the centuries. anyway so did you know robert hooke discovered or made important contributions to the study of cells and also discovered the great red spot and several important physics things like hooke's law and the inverse-square law and made important early contributions to evolutionary studies (150 years before darwin!) and also in his spare time invented windows with multiple panes that you can move. so like all house windows. and also tin can telephones.
