Engineering management is an important skill that bridges the gap between practical engineering and the leadership required for large-scale project management. Professional engineering managers combine their technical skill with economic decision-making and product development to lead their teams to successfully complete projects across various sectors.
The  MSc Engineering Management Programme at Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai, addresses a critical gap in the industry for engineers proficient in project management, capable of leading engineering projects with a balanced emphasis on technical excellence and management skills. This programme is one of the first Engineering Management degrees in the region and is designed for professionals with some industrial experience who aspire to transition into management roles in operations, technology or supply chains. This unique degree, which can be taken either on-campus or virtually in a hybrid learning capacity, opens the door for graduates to take on senior and mid-level management positions that can accelerate their engineering career worldwide.
Our MSc Engineering Management Programme in More Detail
The MDX MSc Engineering Management programme consists of a number of comprehensive modules that provide you with an extensive  knowledge of engineering.
The aim of the key modules is to prepare you to be able to apply project management techniques to achieve quality engineering solutions using human and financial resources. On completion of the degree, you will be able to understand the principles of project management and their limitations, to plan a project, make decisions on the use of resources in an engineering project and evaluate costs and solutions.
The programme will also include engineering simulations, where you will be educated on the scientific methods underlying the modelling of real systems. It will further expand your understanding of a range of sophisticated mathematical techniques, simulation methods and process optimisation. An array of case studies will be used to illustrate how models can be validated against real measurements. Assessment procedures are designed to enable you to deliver academically significant modelling performances. The programme even introduces Human Resource management skills, enabling you to apply a range of HR management techniques to engineering management contexts. The programme also covers financial management, technology management and product development, teaching the use of management tools and budgeting techniques to achieve engineering solutions using the most financially sensible options for your projects.
The programme opens the world of logistics and supply chain management, allowing you to understand the operation of supply chains in an engineering enterprise and to be able to control the logistical operation. On the completion of the module, you will understand how to model a supply chain, make decisions on the use of resources by evaluating costs and schedules to achieve a logistics strategy and critically evaluate the performance of the logistics network on the business.
Head of Programme Professor Fehmida Hussain, says: “This programme will equip you with technical excellence and breadth of project management skills essential for middle and senior management roles. Middlesex University Dubai offers predominantly in-person programmes, so having the unique opportunity to study remotely is an amazing chance to gain a quality degree from a reputable university without having to leave your home country, and it fits nicely around pre-existing employment. The Scottish actor David McCallum was born on 19th September 1933.
Born as David Keith McCallum, Jr in Maryhill, Glasgow, the second of two sons of Dorothy Dorman, a cellist, and orchestral violinist David McCallum Sr. When he was three, his family moved to London for his father to play as concertmaster in the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Early in the Second World War, he was evacuated back to Scotland, where he lived with his mother at Gartocharn by Loch Lomond.
McCallum won a scholarship to University College School, a boys’ independent school in Hampstead, London, where, encouraged by his parents to prepare for a career in music, he played the oboe.In 1946 he began doing boy voices for the BBC radio repertory company. Also involved in local amateur drama, at age 17, he appeared as Oberon in an open-air production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Play and Pageant Union. He left school at age 18 and was conscripted, joining the 3rd Battalion the Middlesex Regiment, which was seconded to the Royal West African Frontier Force. In March 1954 he was promoted to Lieutenant. After leaving the army he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (also in London), where Joan Collins was a classmate.
David McCallum’s acting career has spanned six decades; however, these days he is best known for his starring role on the police procedural NCIS as medical examiner as Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard. I first really remember McCallum for his role in another US show, The Invisible Man which ran for 13 episodes in the 70’s. McCallum by then was a veteran of many TV and Film roles, starting in the 50’s including Our Mutual Friend and The Eustace Diamonds, in the 60’s he was in several ITV Playhouse shows before moving across the Atlantic to take roles in The Outer Limits and his big break as Illya Kuryakin in several incantations of The Man from Uncle.
His most notable films were The Greatest Story Ever Told as Judas Iscariot and of course Ashley-Pitt ‘Dispersal’ in The Great Escape.
As well as the aforementioned Invisible Man in the 70’s he took time to pop back over to our shores to star in two quality series, as Flt. Lt. Simon Carter in Colditz and Alan Breck Stewart in an adaption of Robert Louis Stevenson’s, Kidnapped.
The 80’s saw him team up with the lovely Joanna Lumley in Sapphire & Steel and several guest roles in the likes of The A Team, Hart to Hart and Murder, She Wrote as well as a one off reprise of Illya in the TV movie The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.: The Fifteen Years Later Affair.
The 90’s saw David in Cluedo and Trainer on our TV screens over here and American science-fiction series VR-5 in the states..
During the last 20 years or so he has been in the kids TV show, Ben 10: Omniverse as the voice of Professor Paradox and of course Donald Horatio “Ducky” Mallard in a remarkable  436 episodes of the popular NCIS.
David has been married twice. He married his first wife Jill Ireland in 1957. They met on the set of the movie Hell Drivers. Together, they had two sons and a daughter, Paul, Jason and Valentine, with Jason being the only one who was adopted. In 1963, David introduced Jill to his co-star on The Great Escape, Charles Bronson, and she left David and married Charles in 1968. In 1967,
David McCallum passed away aged 90 on September 23rd last year, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Katherine McCallum, his sons Paul McCallum, Valentine McCallum and Peter McCallum, his daughter Sophie McCallum and his eight grandchildren. NCIS paid tribute to him in an episode called The Stories We Leave Behind when the tagents find comfort in working on one of his unfinished cases. The episode features clips from several old shows.

I have been an admirer of Judy Martin's work for at least a decade, before she became my friend. She is a textile artist who has it all - she makes beautiful quilted, embroidered and sculptured pieces, she talks about art and stitching with poetry and passion, she constantly writes about other artists, displaying interest and admiration, she has time to comment on fb.... I can go on....
Her site gives a brief biography (below), but it is worth reading her articles and diaries - they enhance our understanding of textile arts.
"Judy Martin grew up on a large rural property in the Fort Frances area of Canada. She married Ned martin when she was 22 and the couple raised their four children in three beautiful northern Ontario locations; Thunder Bay, Kenora, and Manitoulin Island. Judy and her husband continue to live and work on Manitoulin Island, Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada.
Judith Martin made her first quilt at the age of twenty and soon became inspired by the quilt’s connection to the important life passages that occur in bed. During the 90’s, she made hand-stitched story quilts using the poetic code she discovered in traditional quilt patterns and world embroidery. Martin holds two BA degrees in fine art, (1993 Lakehead University [Thunder Bay, On] and 2012 Middlesex University [London, UK]). Currently, her most important work is about touch and vulnerability and about the relentless passage of time."

Holden is Donnie
Basics:
Holden was 22 in The Good Girl, which is set in what looks to be the mid-90’s
Donnie was around 16 in 1988
Assuming the entire plot of Donnie Darko never happened, Donnie would be 22 in 1994
What if Donnie didn’t die from that plane engine? What if Frank was simply a hallucination from his schizophrenia, and he just got lucky with nearly avoiding death?
What if, while going about his life after the accident, visions and dreams of an alternate reality kept haunting him? A reality where everything went wrong, he committed serious crimes, the new girl at school got killed because of him, and he didn’t avoid that plane crash?
He was wracked with survivors guilt on top of everything, believing that he had been meant to die that night. He avoided that new girl, Gretchen, out of fear that any interaction could bring those terrifying visions to life. He enjoyed her in his dreams instead, acting out what could have been if things hadn’t been so fucked.
A few years later, the Darko family skips town after an accident involving his younger sister. With his older sister at Harvard, it’s just him and his parents in Texas. They all change their names, but he changes his twice to their distaste.
Soon, it’s six years after the crash. He’s met a girl—no, a woman—and he loves her more than anything. She reminds him of that girl back in Middlesex, the one he was too scared to talk to after he’d started having those dreams. But he was safe with Justine now. Things had finally began to calm down in his mind.
But as their relationship turns rocky, it’s like that goddamn rabbit is feeding off of it, pushing him to do those things that he’d been holding himself back from doing for years.
Donnie, no, Holden has had enough. He’s sick of this guilt, knowing he should’ve died that night six years ago. His meds haven’t helped, they never worked. He needs to set things right.
His final moments, his soul leaving as the hot blood and brains leak out of the hole in his skull, are peaceful. He’s finally set the universe right, in his mind at least.
Anyone can rewrite or add to this theory if they wish! Just make sure to tag me ;3
Some pics of me rambling over this theory with a friend:

“Have you guys made a Common App log-in yet?” Mason questions the group, shoving a hand full of chips in his mouth. They all nod, except for Lacey. Y/N vocalizes her answer, “Yeah, I also made a UCAS one. You know, the one for UK universities.” Y/N, Mason, Rafe and Lacey are all sitting around the Y/L/N’s kitchen island working on their university applications. Rafe is signing into Common App, but he brings one hand down to discretely feed Sparky, who is begging for food under the counter. “Sparky! Are you guilting Daddy into feeding you? You know you aren’t allowed any more treats today, Bubba,” Y/N chastises, picking up the puppy and placing him on her lap. Rafe puts his hands up in defence, “Hey. Don’t blame me. I didn’t know that he wasn’t allowed. Look what you did, Bubba, now I’m in trouble with Mommy.” Sparky excitedly tries to get into Rafe’s lap and get pets from his father. “Where are you guys applying to?” Lacey asks. She isn’t applying to any universities because she is planning on going to culinary school and working different internships.
Rafe looks at the list he formulated, “The Ivies, Stanford, UCLA, a few other American ones, Oxford, Bath, Cambridge, University of London, and Middlesex.” Shock crosses Y/N’s face when she realizes he is applying to a few UK universities as well. “Cameron, you know you don’t have to apply to UK unis just for me.” He looks up from his computer and smiles. “I know, my rose. But I want to,” he promises to her. He doesn’t continue the conversation, instead going back to his application and eating his cookie. “My rose, could you read over my essay, please?” He slides over his laptop and watches as she brings it closer to her. She scans the first line of his essay: My Girlfriend, My Hero. As she continues to read it over, she feels tears try to break free from her tear ducts.
He writes about how he is inspired by Y/N’s good doing and hard work, which pushed him to try to be a better person. He talks about how this caused him to focus more on his swim training, which led to his incredible win. He speaks honestly about how she helped him realize he wants to start thinking more about his future and how he isn’t hundred percent sure if university fits into that puzzle. It is filled with a few cliches and it is a little cringy, but it warms her heart that he chose to write about her. She makes comments on grammatical errors and where he needs to alter the writing, then hands the laptop back to him. “This is really good, Cameron. I’m honoured that you chose to write about me. Although, I’m not sure if this is what the university is really looking for,” she says, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Rafe shakes his head and wraps his arm around her, “If they don’t accept me because of my essay, then it’s like I wrote: I’m not too sure about going to uni anyways. I’ll take it as a sign that I’m meant to be your house husband. I am the one that can cook, anyways.” Y/N giggles at his joke, trying to keep her guilt and worry down.
——
Lacey heads out to go shadow The Wreck’s kitchen and Mason goes up to his room to watch the latest season of whatever he is binging, so Y/N and Rafe make their way to the gazebo with Sparky. She sits down on the love seat and he sets himself beside her. Sparky jumps up on her lap and places his head on Rafe’s lap. “What’s up?” he whispers to her with his lips placed on her hairline.
“What do you mean?”
“I know something is wrong, my rose. You forget that I know you inside and out.”
“What if we can’t do long distance?”
“Of course, we can do long distance. Plus, that’s why I applied to some UK unis, so we can be together.”
“But I don’t want you to throw your life plan off track just because my dream is to go to England. You wanted to go to UNC and then work for your dad.”
“Yeah, but our relationship made me realize that I’m not okay with just sitting back while my dad plans my whole life story for me. I want a say in what happens and if that means going to school in the UK or not going at all, then so be it. I think it’s the universe's way of putting me where I belong.”
“I didn’t know you felt that way. I’m glad you realized that before you made an irreversible life decision.”
He nods in agreement with her and pulls her into his lap, making sure that Sparky doesn’t get hurt, “You want to know what I felt insecure about? When we fought the night of my swim comp, my dad told me that maybe it was better I found out sooner rather than later that I couldn’t comfort you. However, Halloween night, helped me realize that wasn’t true. I was able to help you out of your panic attack without having to be told what to do and what was happening.”
“You really thought that? I’m glad you know now it is not true at all. Even if you couldn’t comfort me, you always knew how to make me feel better. Like setting up movie nights, baking me cookies or giving me popsicles.”
“True, it was a little silly. But now we both know we were wrong with what we thought and it is okay to feel the way we do. Talking will help us fix these feelings.”
She revels in his embrace and listens to the soft music he put on for them. They decide to spend the rest of the evening in the gazebo together, talking about their fears and how they can help each other get past them.
——
November 4 is the day Rafe Cameron entered the world and this year, the day is when he is going to enter adulthood. Rafe hadn’t planned anything special for the day; he only wanted to spend the day with the twins and Sparky. Y/N has other plans for the special day. He is always doing things to surprise her and make her feel loved, so she decided to throw him a surprise party. It isn’t going to be as big as the ragers he throws; instead, it is going to be on a smaller scale with all the people he loves and who love him. A pool party at the Y/L/N’s is the only way to go even with the slight autumn breeze. The heated pool will be sure to warm the partygoers. Everyone is setting up the decorations while Y/N is in charge of getting Rafe to the party location.
“I just need to stop by the house before we go to the restaurant. I forgot my wallet and I am not going to let you pay for your own birthday lunch. We have to use the back entrance because my dad is getting the locks change,” she informs, walking him toward the pool. He takes her hand into his, “You know I really don’t mind paying for lunch. All I want is to spend time with you. Although, seeing our baby would be nice. One of these days you are going to have to let him stay at my place.” Y/N couldn’t answer his question because the party guest yell “Surprise!” at their appearance. Rafe’s genuine reaction is a delight. “You did not plan all of this without me knowing. You can’t keep secrets from me.” She gives him a massive grin, “I know. I don’t know how I kept it so secret. I hope you like it.” “I love it, thank you.”
Rafe and Y/N take time and mingle with all of the guests. At some point, Sarah and Wheezie pop up in front of the pair with an instant camera to take a picture of them. After all that, Y/N and Rafe strip down to their bathing suits with the plans of going for a dip. He wraps his arms around her waist and places his chin on her shoulders as they look out towards the pool. An idea pops into his mind; a Cheshire cat smiles spreads across his face. He unwinds his hands from their position and quickly pushes her into the pool. The sudden surrounding of water surprises the girl. She looks at him with annoyance and reaches a hand out for him to help her out. “It’s the least you can do,” she pouts, waving her hand to exaggerate her point. He falls for her trick, taking her hand.
She uses all of her strength to pull him into the water with her. Y/N laughs her head off as he surfaces from the water. “Why does this feel familiar?” he inquires, swimming closer to his girlfriend. She wraps her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck, “Because this was the start of the dominion fall that lead to me falling for you. That movie night was my favourite make-up of yours.”
“Well, I’m glad I decided to be a dick and pushed you in,” he jokes, giving her a sloppy kiss on the cheek. She brings her lips close to his ears to whisper, “I have your gift in my room. I want to give it to you in private though. Maybe after cake?” “That sounds like a plan.” The evening is spent in the pool, playing chicken, marco polo, watching the boys try to show off on the diving board and many more activities. Aunt Millie brings over Franklin and Bella after their naps, ready to play. “Come on, Bells. You can do it!” Rafe encourages from inside the pool. He watches the young girl nervously make her way toward the end of the diving board with her life vest on. She looks at him with trust in her eyes and sees his outstretched arms ready to catch her then jumps into them. He catches the girl and brings her over to the shallow end where Franklin and Y/N are waiting.
“That was amazing, Bells. You did so great!” she praises the little girl, giving Bella a kiss on the cheek. Bella looks at her cousin with a smile and her face quickly changes to remembrance, “Oh, Rafe. I want you to open your gift.” Bella hops out of the pool and waddles her way over to the table with the gifts. Rafe hops out of the pool to dry himself off and takes Franklin out of Y/N’s hand so she can follow him out. Bella makes her way over to him with a wide smile on her face. She hands it over to him and watches as he opens it. Inside is a watch with Lighting McQueen on the face of it. It is obviously a children’s watch and probably not very expensive, but the look of joy on Bella’s face makes his heart swell. “I picked it out myself. Do you like it?” she confides. He picks her up into her arms and presses a kiss to her hair, “I love it. It’s so cool. I love Lightning McQueen.” He puts on his watch and sees Lacey beckoning him over as she places the candles on the cake.
He goes over to where she is with Y/N, Franklin and Bella in tow. He looks down to see the blue icing on the cake that says “Wow, you are getting old.” It is a definite sign Lacey is the one who made the cake. His eyes are instantly drawn to the cookies on the dessert table because he knows Y/N is the one who baked them. The party guest all gather around to sing happy birthday. They cut the cake and Y/N settles herself with two slices of cake onto Rafe’s lap on the patio chair. He takes the plate out of her hand, taking the fork into his as well. He holds up a cake-filled fork for her and as she moves her mouth closer to the fork. He takes the opportunity to bring the plate closer to her face too and smashes the cake into her mouth and face. “Ugh, Cameron,” she groans, taking a napkin to wipe it off. He brings them to a stand and starts to bring her upstairs, “Isn’t this a good excuse to go upstairs to your room?” Y/N gives him a confused look then nods once she puts two and two together.
She has him sit on the window sill and she goes to her desk to get his gift. “Close your eyes,” she orders when her back is turned. Rafe obeys and holds his hands up with his palms facing up. He feels a weight being placed on them and opens his eyes. The wrapping paper is white covered with roses and a purple bow on top. He opens the gift, making sure to be careful with the paper. The first thing he finds is a scrapbook with his name and the date range from his birthday to the day before his current birthday. He opens it up to see pictures of his growth in chronological order. He finds photos from every milestone that he had. “If you go to the back, there is a section on the start of your relationship,” she notifies him, helping him turn to the page. There was in fact a part dedicated to the two of them with all of his favourite pictures of them. He smacks his lips against hers. “This is the best gift ever. I love it! Thank you,” he thanks her. “There is more to the gift.” He puts the scrapbook down to see a leather journal underneath. His initials are imprinted on the front and the pages are completely empty.
“It’s a journal for you to document your life as an adult. Now, you have something that documents your childhood and to document your adulthood.” He looks at her with adoration in her eyes as he realizes the amount of time and effort she put into his birthday gift. “These are amazing. Thank you, my rose. Let’s go back to the party now. Can I keep these up here?” “Of course, let’s go back down.” The pair rejoin the party with dopey smiles on their faces.

It did not seem like a good thing when a precious consignment of human tumour samples on its way from Kampala, Uganda, to Heathrow was diverted to Manchester. When the samples finally arrived at the Middlesex hospital in London, they were swimming in murky fluid in their vials as though they had been infected with bacteria.
But when the pathologist Anthony Epstein looked at the fluid under the microscope he saw no bacteria, just individual cells that had been shaken loose from the tumours. And that was just what he needed in order to search for elusive virus particles and test his hunch that they were causing cancer.
In the early 1960s Epstein, who has died aged 102, had heard a lecture by Denis Burkitt, an Irish surgeon working in Kampala, that described strange tumours (now known as Burkitt lymphoma) growing around the jaws of children in equatorial Africa.
Intriguingly, the geographical distribution of the condition seemed to depend on temperature and rainfall, suggesting a biological cause. Epstein, who had been working with viruses that cause cancer in chickens, immediately suspected a virus might be involved, perhaps in association with another tropical disease such as malaria.
Epstein began to collaborate with Burkitt, who supplied him with tumours from children he had treated. But Epstein’s efforts to grow pieces of tumour in the laboratory and isolate a virus had all been unsuccessful until the dissociated cells arrived.
With his graduate student Yvonne Barr, he then decided to look at cultures of these cells in an electron microscope, a powerful instrument that had only recently become available in his lab.
The very first image showed a tell-tale outline that looked like one of the family of herpes viruses. It turned out to be a previously undescribed member of that family, and was given the name Epstein-Barr virus. In 1964, Epstein, Barr and Epstein’s research assistant, Bert Achong, published the first evidence that cancer in humans could be caused by a virus – to be greeted by widespread scepticism even though they went on to demonstrate that EB virus caused tumours in monkeys.
Thanks to samples supplied by Epstein, in 1970 Werner and Gertrude Henle at the Children’s hospital in Philadelphia discovered that EB virus also caused glandular fever. That made it possible to design a test for antibodies to the virus in order to confirm a diagnosis. EB virus turned out to be very common, infecting most children in early life, though it usually causes glandular fever only in older teenagers and young adults. As well as causing Burkitt lymphoma in endemic areas in Africa and Papua New Guinea, it is also associated with a cancer of the nose and throat that is the most common cancer of men in south China, as well as cancers in people whose immune systems have been compromised, such as those infected with HIV.
More recent research suggests that EB virus might also be involved in some cases of multiple sclerosis, and that people who have previously had glandular fever are more susceptible to severe Covid-19.
After the discovery, Epstein and others devoted time and effort to trying to find out under what circumstances EB virus causes cancer. The relationship between the virus, other diseases, human genetics and cancer is complex, and it took decades before the medical community could accept the EB virus as a cause with confidence.
Not until 1997 did the International Agency for Research on Cancer class it as a Group 1 carcinogen, formally acknowledging its role in a variety of cancers.
The discovery of EB virus opened up a whole new field of research into cancer-causing viruses. It also raised the exciting possibility of preventing cancers through vaccination, an advance that has now been achieved in the case of human papilloma virus, which causes cervical cancer, and hepatitis B virus, which causes liver cancer.
By the time of his retirement in 1985, Epstein’s research group at the University of Bristol had developed a candidate vaccine that protected monkeys infected with EB virus against tumours, but neither it nor any other candidate has yet been successfully developed for human use.
Epstein was born in London, one of three children of Olga (nee Oppenheimer) and Mortimer Epstein. Mortimer was a writer and translator who edited The Statesman’s Yearbook for Macmillan from 1924 until his death in 1946. Olga was involved with charitable work in the Jewish community. Anthony attended St Paul’s school in west London, where the biology teacher Sidney Pask encouraged boys to go far beyond the syllabus and whose pupils also included Robert Winston and Jonathan Miller.
Epstein won a place to study medicine at Trinity College, Cambridge. He moved to Middlesex hospital medical school in wartime London to complete his training, before doing his national service in India with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He returned to work at the Middlesex hospital as assistant pathologist, conducting his own research. Thinking electron microscopy might be useful in his studies of cancer-causing viruses in chickens, he spent some time learning the new technique at the Rockefeller Institute in New York (now Rockefeller University). Not long afterwards he attended Burkitt’s lecture and began the serendipitous route to his discovery.
In 1968 he was appointed professor and head of the department of pathology at the University of Bristol, where he remained until his retirement. He moved to Oxford as a fellow of Wolfson College in 1986, becoming an honorary fellow in 2001.
An exemplary scientific good citizen, he served as foreign secretary and vice-president of the Royal Society, and sat on boards and councils for numerous national and international research organisations, including as a special representative of the director general of Unesco; he was also a patron of Humanists UK. Among his many prizes and honorary degrees, he received the international Gairdner award for biomedical research in 1988. He was appointed CBE in 1985 and knighted in 1991.
“It was a series of accidents, really,” he said of his discovery in a conversation with Burkitt they recorded for Oxford Brookes University’s oral history archive in 1991. “Lucky quirks.” Burkitt immediately responded with Louis Pasteur’s aphorism: “Chance favours the prepared mind.”
Epstein was a deeply cultured man who retained a lively interest in many subjects – particularly oriental rugs, Tibet and amphibians – until the end of his life.
He is survived by his partner, Kate Ward, by his children Susan, Simon and Michael, from his marriage to Lisbeth Knight, from whom he was separated in 1965, and who died in 2015, and by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
