#Mickey Mouse Headcanons

Do you have any headcanons on how Public Domain is seen by Toons? I envision that as ... retirement: on January 1st, there's a big party in which the "Public Domainers" receive a gold watch and a plaque thanking them for their service. After that, they're free to go around Toontown to either rest and relax and fulfill their own dreams. Some even came back to the scenes (case in point: Daffy I, the super-silly one from the origins, that came back to Warner Bros after The Looney Tunes Show)

The "Swirly D" (heh, no names given here) scared the actors, telling them that if they ever went into Public Domain, they'd be left alone with their old arch-enemesis (Fleischer Brothers actors) and "those [religious slur] disrespectful know-it-alls" (Looney Tunes). So "Double M" saw many of his friends and siblings finally going into Public Domain and enjoy their newfound freedom missing them dearly ... (is this too "schmalzily-heartwrenching"?)

So...I'm only responding to the first paragraph because I didn't understand the second [Swirly D?].

All of the Toons are trademarked, so they can't really be used outside of Disney/Looney Tunes. As found out when I googled if Mickey is in the public domain. 'Trademark and Rights: While the copyright has expired, Disney still holds the trademark on Mickey as a “corporate mascot and brand identifier.” Creators will not be able to produce any work that deceptively fools consumers into thinking their Mickey is affiliated with Disney. The company will actively safeguard against unauthorized uses of Mickey and other iconic characters'

So basically Mickey can be used but VERY limited. So, did he have a celebration? Yes! Like other Toons who enter the public domain, he got a letter from the head of his company at the time and had a party.

I don't know if anyone's seen pictures of the parties after the war, but it was that kind of thing. A day of work for the Toons [Disney Toons only] and a buffet that stretched out for infinity. Mickey himself mainly left the other Toons to their own devices, but he did have a celebration in his house [Well, mansion] with Minnie, Goofy, Max, Donald, Huey, Dewey and Lewie as well as Oswald and Ortensia. He also invited Bugs, Daffy, Porky and Elmer. [He gets on quite well with Bugs, if you invite Bugs you've got to invite Daffy. The two of them basically dragged Porky and Elmer along, figuring Mickey wouldn't mind. Luckily he didn't.

A very good point. 

I personally think that Mickey and Minnie’s relationship is unique in that it’s on of the few romantic relationships to be consistently shown ON SCREEN. Other than Donald and Daisy that is. And Donald wasn’t created till 1934 - 6 years difference between him and Mickey & Minnie.

Going back to the Mouses - their relationship has basically developed on-screen, which is a bit weird. They’d only been created about 6 months before starring in ‘Steamboat Willie’. for cryin’ out loud! Their next film ‘The Karnival Kid’ was filmed about 6 months later [both finished filming 3 months before they aired so the animators could tighten things up and Walt could check he was happy with it.]

At first I headcanon they were just together because...well, they were together. Walt created them to be together, that’s just how it was. That being said by the time they were making ‘Mickey’s Follies’ [Basically a love-song to Minnie with slapstick] Mickey was able to put a genuine level of love into his singing for Minnie and not just because he’s a Toon, but because he was genuinely starting to fall in love with her.

Minnie - being slightly more level-headed and a bit more cautious when it comes to love - was sure that she liked Mickey but wasn’t sure how much he liked her. Thankfully the next about 5 shorts Mickey got to save her repeatedly. There was something abut being repeatedly saved from various disasters that helped to strengthen their bond. A particularly good one would be ‘The Fire Fighters - 1940′ during which Minnie is trapped in a burning building and Mickey has to rescue her. 

Except because they were just going with a vague outline of a plot and it wasn’t scripted like modern-day cartoons, they were improvising most of the plot. One being that Minnie passed out from fear/smoke. 

Mickey saw this and panicked. They were filming - he didn’t know if she was genuinely ok or not. Burt Gillet - the director for that short - seemed to be happy with it though, so Mickey carried on. His panic was completely real and Minnie realised that. She had to fight the urge to jump up and dance around when she realised he loved her to. Thankfully she kept it together though.

At the end of the short she hugged Mickey tightly, kissed him [on the cheek only. They were in front of others.] and told him he now take her out for a date.

Mickey ended up taking her to a fancy restaurant and that was when the officially [as far as they’re concerned] started dating.

it’s interesting how mickey and minnie’s relationship seems to be an exception rather than a rule for toons, if you really think about it.

other toons, like felix the cat, have had romantic interests (more than one even!) than simply haven’t lasted that long/never became that popular. bugs bunny has been around since the 30’s, but lola bunny didn’t come around until the 90’s and appears pretty much only in space jam (and that one looney tunes reboot where her personality took a 180 turn). even with oswald: although ortensia has been established as his wife and One True Love, we know that wasn’t always true because of fanny. what i’m saying is: romance in toons has never been…a constant, i guess.

mickey and minnie, though? they’ve been co-stars since day one (be it Plane Crazy or Steamboat Willie) and since then the nature of their relationship has never changed for over 90 years. that’s longer than the majority of toons have been around for. even when they argue and get mad at each other, they always get back together in the end.

and I just wonder: how does a relationship like that fit in toon standards? do other toons think it’s weird that they’ve been together for so long? do they think it’s not genuine? have the mice themselves questioned it: whether they genuinely love each other or they just think they do because that’s what their animators intended? is there even a difference to that if they’re toons??? and how does this affect their relationship beyond just the romantic aspect of it???

Mickey’s veeery complicated opinion on Jose Carioca

I talked about this headcanon on twitter but I wanted to talk about it on tumblr too bc u guys are goated 🙏🤣❤️ ANYYWAYYSSS (Sorry I’m very bad at explaining things and my grammar is awful this is more of a ramble, AND IM SORRY IF THIS IS OOC)

I feel like Mickey, despite not wanting to not like him, does NOTTTT LIKE Jose because of how similar they are. I mean when you think about it, Jose is basically everything Mickey is and more ? (Maybe that’s a stretch, I dunno) He’s more humble, probably a lot more charming, and I feel like Mickey would feel threatened by that. Here’s a rlly crappy drawing to visualize 😎

I don’t think Mickey would ever admit to feeling that way about him because he doesn’t WANT to, he feels really really guilty about it, and he thinks it’s silly, but I guess he has some deep rooted issues with being replaced to be reacting in such a way.

AND ALSO because Jose is completely oblivious to how Mickey feels about him and thinks they’re very good friends!! So mickey wouldn’t wanna mess that up either and make himself look bad

But I always found it funny that despite Jose and Mickey being similar, to me Donald seems to fuck with Jose a LOT more than Mickey 😭 I think Mickey would be incredibly insecure about that especially, i mean if ur best friend likes this guy more than he likes you he’s definitely better than you!!! I think Mickey would end up believing that because Donald seems calmer and happier around Jose, than that means Donald’s temper wasn’t the problem, Mickey not being a good enough friend for him was. :( LIKE HES A BIRD TOO!! Do you have any headcanons on whether the fab five have favourite Disney characters (that aren't part of the Mickeyverse)?

Like I know that Mickey and Minnie aren't the type to show favouritism but I feel like they would have a soft spot for Snow White since she was the very first animated movie.

I also feel like Daisy and Tinkerbell would be BFFs.

He would be coming from the store with a bunch of gifts he has planned to give to you on thanksgiving day.

But what he didn't expect to come home to see was you on top of a chair and getting ready to kick it away to hang yourself.

Oswald immediately plucked both of his ears off his head and shaped them into scissors and he cut the rope above you. He caught you before you hit the ground.

"Why would you do that (Name)?! You could have almost killed yourself doing that!". Oswald was deliberately scanning your face for any answers, you stayed silent.

Oswald calmed down before setting you on the ground. "(Name)...please talk to me. Why did you do that? How long have you been this way?". Making Oswald worry about you like this only made the pain worse for you.

"I'm sorry Oswald....I've been struggling with a bunch of mental problems lately and I couldn't muster up the courage to talk to you about it. Work has also been stressful for me too....". You admitted with tears forming in your eyes and Oswald pulled you into a hug.

"I don't want to force you into telling me everything that is going on because I know how hard it can be to discuss them. But if things get worse for you please talk to me (Name). I don't want to lose you, you're important to me..". You nodded slowly and hugged Oswald back, to which he responded by giving you a kiss on the forehead.

Mickey saw you self harming with a knife before in the kitchen. He was so scared at the amount of cuts you made on both of your arms. He took away the knife and bandaged up all of your scars.

Now Mickey isn't quite good at comforting somebody who is suicidal because he's never seen someone like that nor does he have the knowledge to deal with suicide.

Everyone around him always seems so happy....At least that's what he thought so.

He would hide any other sharp objects that you could use to hurt yourself. He'd try to comfort you but end up failing miserably so he had to ask Minnie for help...Mickey is more stressed than you. 😭

Eventually, he came around and did his best to help you with whatever made you this way and you gladly thanked him. Please promise him that you will never hurt yourself like that ever again okay?

Alice is a sweet woman. She's always so loving and caring towards you. She makes you sweets and other tasty pantries on a daily basis. She showers you with kisses every morning. She's practically like a housewife to you.

But how would she react when she sees you pointing a gun to your forehead? The poor woman fainted after being shocked by the moment in front of her. All you could do was stare at her unconscious body with the gun still lingering in your hand pointing at your forehead.

After she woke up, she thought you probably would've ended yourself by now as she was unconscious. To her surprise, you're still here. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't help but think if she did something wrong. Why would you try to kill yourself?

You ended up being the one to comfort her in the first half Because she genuinely thinks she is responsible for why you're like this. You explained everything to her and she understands now.

If somebody was causing you problems, she might not be much of an angel when she sees them. Nobody hurt you? She'll gladly embrace you and give you reassuring words as you dump out everything that has been bothering you.

You are somebody who is precious to him and if somebody is the reason why you have all these scars....hahahaha..... let's just say they might meet a fate that will be more than just being consumed....

After you made up another excuse to "go somewhere", Bendy quietly followed after you and saw you in a small room, armed with a broken glass bottle in your hand cutting your arm, leaving fresh scars on there.

If Bendy was in his big form, he would've gone on a rampage at the sight of his s/o in an injured state. But his little form, he covered his mouth with tears dripping from his eyes, you were the one giving yourself all of these scars?

He'd run towards you and hug you tightly. This body language alone was enough to let you know that he wanted you to stop hurting yourself like this. He is now even more protective of you to the point he won't allow you to go anywhere without him following you in the process.

Some more headcanons. This is leaning more into an au so imma refer to this as Toonverse or Between the Screen...idk. More info below

All the toons that appear will have alternate names at times. It allows them more freedom in public and not be bound to their stage/real names. (Also, public domain stuff and separating them from canon even further)

Epic Mickey's story is slightly different in this au. It leans a tad more into the darker aspects the game originally had and maybe some mature subjects. Some bits of aftermath are the brothers having an injured ear and Mickey still having the blot partially in him, which results in him having monthly check-ups.

Tia and Oz have 3 officially, adopted kids: Ollie Jr., Vanny, and Tim. The rest of the bunny kids are orphans that they and other toons care for in the local orphanage.

Fanny is given the honor of the co-leader of Wasteland alongside Gus and Peter B. She is given this due to Ozzy being in charge of the Trolley Conversion Station and Tia running the House of Hare with Julius, which take time away from running the Wasteland.

One very specific brand of brotherly angst I’ve yet to really see is the fact that despite being “biological” brothers (due to their intrinsic connection to Walt and Ub or whatever), they don’t………they don’t actually KNOW each other.

Mickey probably doesn’t even know Oswald exists until much later. he’d have an easier time accepting other people, people he’s actually known for DECADES (Clarabelle, horace or goofy for example) as his family before Oswald.
