The Science of Massage Therapy: Understanding the Healing Process
On a psychological level, massage therapy can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression by stimulating the release of endorphins, the natural painkillers that promote a sense of well-being. Additionally, it also helps to reduce cortisol levels, which are associated with stress and anxiety.
So, if you are looking for a natural way of healing, you may like to consider booking an appointment with a nearby massage therapy specialist in Mississauga or your area.

Healing Power of Medical Massage Therapy
Medical massage therapy is a type of massage that focuses on treating specific health conditions and relieving symptoms. Unlike relaxation massage, which aims to relax the body and mind, medical massage therapy employs specialized techniques to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and promote range of motion. This type of therapy treats musculoskeletal problems, neurological disorders, and chronic pain syndromes by combining evidence-based techniques and anatomical expertise.
Medical massage therapy differs from other types of massage treatments, such as therapeutic and relaxation massage, in that it is intended to address specific medical issues. It is frequently prescribed by doctors and might be reimbursed by health insurance.
Medical massage therapy provides several benefits. It can help control and reduce pain caused by a variety of medical disorders, including as chronic pain, injuries, and post-surgical discomfort. The therapy also improves circulation, lowers inflammation, increases range of motion and flexibility, and promotes stress relief and mental health.

Jesus fucking christ I just had my clearest experience yet of Google being unusable garbage
Trying to look into something and literally all the links I get are very very basic "Hey this exists!" or trying to sell me something. Adding reddit to the end of the search absolutly did help but not even that can save me (provide me with step by step instructions)
#trying to look into massage techniques#specifically spine pain ideally scoliosis#obviously#but everything is like. medical blog posts that yes you *can* use massage to reduce pain! isnt that wild#or some rando specialty clinic thats just offering therapy services#like. i get that physical therapy is a thing people study to make a living off of but jfc i should be able to learn a thing without#paying out my ass for it#and yeah all reddit really did was give me a few bits of jargon#which is appreciated but hasnt turned up anything useful yet#fucking google is abelist bc it impedes my autistic desire to Research

I found an online vocational course website with actually reasonable prices ($500-2000 total for most with monthly payment options).
I think anyone who is in a job that they feel stuck in should do a course like this where it's 4-10 months flexible online and then you can earn $20 an hour starting out.
They even have massage therapy courses for $5k, which is half of what I spent and majority online. Im unsure what they do for the hands on hours.
Here's the site:
https://www.uscareerinstitute.edu/
Make sure to read up on the fine print though, cause some courses are only good for some states and this school is based in Colorado. Some states will require more education. I saw that on the home inspection page. Like 20 states need more education and then other states have no education requirement.

I gotta say
I am very skeptical of medical treatments that don't fall under what we consider standard western practice
I used to work for a natural medicine doctor who turned out to be a massive quack and had her Chinese Medicine registration revoked recently. I am very suspicious of anything that does not have a large body of scientific, non-anecdotal evidence to back it up
But. I went to physio today and mentioned that some of the exercises I'm doing to strengthen my hips and lower back are causing me upper back and shoulder pain, and is there anything I can do to alleviate that?
The kinesiologist gave me some stretches and techniques to help, and then bumped up my exercise regimen and had me do some cardio and free weights
My physiotherapist was like
"Okay, usually I'd stretch your hips and back out but if you're having that much shoulder and upper back pain, can I touch your back and see if I can work it out?" (It was good of her to ask since I have serious hangups about having my back touched but I trust her enough at this point that I said yes)
And I dunno what you would call what she did - some kind of massage? Acupressure, maybe? But she pushed and pulled and pressed and flexed out my shoulders and some of it HURT and I had to bite back yelps but when she was done??
My back felt looser and better than it has in weeks
It's over 12 hours later, and I've done dishes and my evening exercises and had a shower and my shoulders STILL feel COMPLETELY fine
I'm starting to understand why healers of olden times were accused of witchcraft because what the absolute fuck
#maybe there is scientific backing for massage and acupressure idk i haven't looked into it fully#i just can't believe the difference a 10 minute massage made. it's incredible#mod post#medical stuff#physiotherapy#massage therapy

In general: hypermobility in the body is a sign you shouldn’t get chiropractic work. Massage can relieve pain, but what you really need is to strengthen your muscles enough that they hold your joints together, since your connective tissue isn’t doing its job.
Specifically hypermobility in the neck: bestie they will put you in the hospital.
Source: I’ve been a massage therapist for 10 years.
am I misreading (sorry very tired) or did the chiropractor cause the injury? oh no I have my first chiropractor appointment in a week for my chronic neck pain/hypermobile neck D: is this a sign to cancel it?
Hypermobile neck.
D: Nonononononononono!!! No don’t let them touch you!
Back in 2018 before we knew I had Ehlers Danlos, a chiropractor gently (I cannot stress this enough. He was so, so gentle with me and I still suffered a major, life threatening injury) adjusted my neck, tore all the surrounding soft tissue and I had to get an emergency MRI because I was at risk of a brain bleed.
Fortunately none of the arteries in my neck were impacted but the surrounding soft tissue and nerves were so badly damaged I’m still in rehab. It’s never going to fully heal, but I’m very lucky to be alive.
Honestly, no one should let chiropractors near their neck but especially not people with hypermobility. I cannot stress this enough, do not do it. Please.
I know it might be hard to get (I know my insurance only covered chiropractic care at the time and that’s how I ended up worse off🫠) but you’d be much better off pursuing long term relief through physical therapy intended to help stabilize and strengthen the area. Chiropractic care will not do this. It actively destabilizes the neck and doesn’t offer long term stability.
Please take care and be careful with your neck. It’s been 6 years and I still sometimes can’t hold my head up without getting shooting pain and vertigo.
