Said to have once held the Crown Jewels in some historic conflict they had taught to us as kids, one of the few major attractions to have its own stop on the Bus service routes of the X7 coastrider. With nary a feature nearby, aside from a recent white styled housing development, obligatory farms, and the house of my Uncle. Mearns and Kincardineshire folks.

Would love to hear about the differences between the skull shapes, general locations, and colour palettes of all the coyote subspecies! Only if you would like to of course, as I understand there are a lot.
If there weren't so many I'd do them all but here's two of my favorite subspecies c:
Mearns' coyote (C. l. mearnsi) is a small subspecies located in the southwest (predominantly AZ) and often have this beautiful dark coloration.
Tumblr media
The Northeastern coyote (C. l. thamnos) is a much larger subspecies on average and their skulls have a very unique shape compared to the other subspecies. They're located around the Great Lakes. The average color is the one shown below, but they often come in a red or blonde coloration.
Tumblr media
These subspecies are often confused as hybrids due to their unique skull shapes. Mearns' on the left, the Plains coyote ("average" coyote) in the middle, and Northeastern on the right.

Mearns' are smaller with a more defined stop than the Plains coyote, while the Northeasterns are larger with more "wolf-like" features like wider zygomatics and larger mandibles.

BOTD: Montezuma Quail
Tumblr media
Photo: budgora
"Despite its bold and bizarre pattern, this little quail of the Mexican border regions can be remarkably hard to see. When approached, pairs or coveys of Montezuma Quail may crouch motionless until they are practically stepped upon; then they explode into flight, to whir away across the hillsides. Fall and winter coveys usually have fewer than ten birds, and they often range over a very limited area."

2 and 48 from the round one questions?
(questions from here)
2. How did Rook get the nickname? What do they think of it?
partially answered here. corentin doesn't mind it, but he also has a complicated relationship with his sense of self as it is. in more intimate settings and with the people he's closest to, he prefers his actual name—it's grounding. but elsewhere, in casual conversation or with allies? rook is fine.
48. A color, flower, animal, and weather to describe Rook:
colour: orange. i've associated it with him from the very beginning. it's why i spoiler tag for this game with orange and why i swapped the subtitle colours so that rook is orange and npcs are purple (the default has it the other way around). it's warm and energetic but not hot and harsh the way red is. like embers and open flame. sunset and sunrise. soft like peaches or hard like pumpkins. flower: bird of paradise. freedom, opportunity, faithfulness, joy. it evokes a bird in flight, is brightly coloured and tropical. animal: coyotes. sorry, i get to actually talk about this so i'm going to. like with the colour thing, coyotes have been associated with corentin since the beginning, because from the second i made him i knew he was a shapeshifter, and i knew i'd need to pick a go-to animal form for him, and it's coyotes. some of the earliest posts in his tags are these funky dudes. they're intelligent, adaptable survivors, they're chatty, they're tricksters, they hunt and scavenge, and they often travel in familial groups. plus. look at his face. he already has the puppy dog eyes. weather: warm rain. the kind where the sun is still peeking through the clouds and your hair is soaked but you can smell the grass and it kind of reminds you that you're alive.
