i think emmrich’s vaguely dubious morality is so interesting like. he doesn’t follow the law per se, he is absolutely willing to use underhanded methods and bend the rules to accomplish his goals or help his friends, but he has strict priorities, putting his loved ones and knowledge above all else. he gives that one dock town vendor nightmares for selling him a fake charm. he admits he’s to blame for telling hezenkoss more of the lich ritual than she should have known, but he doesn’t lament telling her at all; what he regrets is not telling her enough for her to succeed (which would have made her more powerful and more successful at taking over the tri-state area nevarra city). he very cheerfully does blood magic in v&v (not that i think there’s anything morally wrong with blood magic inherently but it’s certainly frowned upon by the law). he knows that there’s a chance his necromantic practices are wrong and harmful but he doesn’t change anything he’s doing. even after taking manfred in he’s still using wisps for manual labor in the necropolis literally when you meet him. one might think manfred would make him more sympathetic toward wisps in general but that does not happen.

and the reason he’s willing to overlook using some questionable means to get the desired result is because of his optimism and naivete; he’s convinced that everyone is acting out of kindness and regularly perplexed by the idea that someone could do evil on purpose. and he’s so earnest about it. but he consistently prioritizes his own motives and individuals he cares about over the greater good. idk i think he’d be very easily corruptible if offered knowledge or the ability to help his loved ones or a path to immortality less risky than lichdom. i think elgar’nan’s little promises during blood of arlathan would’ve fully worked on him. emmrich would’ve been lost to the desire/pride demons in night terrors before hawke could blink.

anyway the blood magic bit in v&v

fully reads to me like “nothing will be summoned THIS TIME” not like he never summons anything. which he definitely does. he’s summoning things left and right, he’s made at least a few inadvisable deals in his lifetime, i know this to be true

Artist Participation in Brief

Work Time: August 14 - October 31.

You will produce a polished illustration tangibly inspired by the fanfiction you’re paired with.

👉You can choose to depict the featured characters, a specific scene, or something broader, like the kind of image that might be used for a book cover. This is up to your discretion, and you’re encouraged to talk to your writer for inspiration - but this is not a commission, so you are encouraged to follow your imagination!

You are not required to be a professional or experienced artist to join.

We’ll need artists interested in illustrating a wide variety of topics, including characters and events from all three Dragon Age games. We will also need artists comfortable being associated with NSFW fics, including darkfics.

From August 3-10, any artists who sign up will be able to read every single story pitch from the Bang and rank their top 3 choices. Pitches will be anonymous (you will not know the author). You can find an example of what information writers will provide you with here.

The stories pitched to us range from Teen to Explicit ratings. There are many different relationships represented, including platonic and crossover ships, and we have writers focusing on both canon characters as well as OCs.

A lot of people are very critical about datv while upholding other games (important things to be critical about when it comes to datv) but what I don’t ever really see and if anything, what I do see is people making excuses for or finding ways to exalt the writers. It’s the way that they have basically taken every storyline that could’ve been great and made it a terrible racist mess and yes, EA is evil, yes corporate execs are evil but also!!! These white liberal writers wrote some of the most egregiously tone deaf shit throughout four games and nobody ever seems to care to point it out. The writers deserve to be criticized. They wrote racism.

honestly, i'm pretty proud of my emotional beats. i feel like i do a good job of evoking the highs and lows that i'm going for, which is something that is really important to me in my writing.
